Your name is Amelia Bishop, and you never wanted it to end this way.

When you saw Leon's ghost – or the lingering echo of his lost humanity, whatever is closer to the truth – you were able to say goodbye. It wasn't a pleasant experience, but it was some much needed closure. By the end of it you felt, finally, like you could put the young man's death behind you. Unfortunately, he had other ideas. It was his body, burned and mutilated but still animated by the terrible force of his rage, that waited for you, atop a mountain of corpses in the silent fields of Highgate Cemetery.

So you killed him. There had only ever been one way for things to end, but that doesn't mean you're happy about it. Had he lived – if you could call that kind of existence a life – he would never stop until you were dead. That was just the kind of person he was. Now, with his corpse reduced to dust and the hideous insect that was the source of his power crushed within your fist, Leon is nothing but a bad memory. Put him behind you, you tell yourself, and focus on the task ahead.

The final cornerstone – hidden somewhere in this graveyard. No doubt one of your demons, Pixie perhaps, could lead you straight to it – but what's the rush? You're content to wander for a while, looking for the distinctive glimmer of magical power with your own two eyes. Cassandra walks by your side, looking your way with pleading eyes. She wants you to say something, to make some flippant comment to show just how okay you are. At your other side, Petra is imitating the sound a Barghest makes as it dies – trying to cheer you up in her own, strange way.
>>
>>43177245

Enough, you say quietly, causing both of your friends to pause for a moment. They should focus, you add, on what lies ahead. There might be some of Joseph's shining warriors still lurking around, or some other threat waiting in the shadows. Letting your guard down now would be a mistake, and they shouldn't forget it.

Cassandra says nothing but flinches away from you, as though you'd slapped her across the face. You curse inwardly, immediately regretting your words. Taking things out on your friends and allies won't help anyone, least of all you. An apology begins to form on your lips when you stop, a shimmering aura of power drawing your attention. The cornerstone, just one anonymous grave amongst the dozens that you've passed already, but unmistakable nonetheless. You approach and kneel in front of it, staring hard at the grave. This is it, you realise, the moment of truth.

“We'll keep watch here,” Cassandra says quietly, seeking to assure you that she's all business, “Um, be careful, okay?”

Careful, you laugh. You'll meddle with cosmic power on a scale beyond your comprehension, but you'll do it carefully. Then, before you can loose your nerve, you reach out and touch the stone, shuddering as your consciousness is dragged down into a place of deep blackness. The first time this happened, you remember, you thought you were dying – or possibly already dead. It had been a trap, true enough, but not the kind you had been expecting. Now, as you feel some sense of direction asserting itself, you see the familiar three paths lit up before you. Heaven, Hell... or Outside. Three armies, all of which would call you an enemy, and you have to decide which one to empower.

>Heaven
>Hell
>Outside

You promised Joseph and Mastema – that angelic duo – that you would send the power to Heaven. You're pretty sure you were doing to double cross them, but the mere act of making that promise encourages you to take the opposing path. Spiteful? Maybe, but not exactly unjustifiable considering what they've done to you. Joseph tried to kill your father and steal the cornerstone out from under you – you'll take a certain satisfaction from sending this one to Hell

Of course, you're somewhat less satisfied with the fact that you'll be send there right along with it – for a brief moment, at least. The last time you took a trip down south, Lucifer was such a caring host that you barely managed to leave. Even then, that was only thanks to Mastema's intervention, something you can't imagine you'll be able to rely upon this time. Still, there's always some force that drags you back to reality when you claim one of the cornerstones.

So, pledging this reservoir of power to Hell's infernal might, you feel your formless body being dragged down, infinitely downwards. It's like being plunged into a bath of cold water only, when you look around at the cool blue light that surrounds you, you have no physical form to get wet. Probably for the best – if you're going to be battling the forces of both God and Lucifer in the future, you'd rather not suffer from a cold while you do so.

“Well now,” a low, seductive voice calls out to you, “I didn't think I would be expecting to see you again. Have you seen the error of your ways, my wayward child?”

Lucifer, currently appearing before you in his beautiful form. Nice to look at, but utterly fake. You force down any fear you might feel and glare up at him, unimpressed by the swathes of silk hanging from his body or the majestic horns rising up from his brow.

You'll talk, you tell him, but not to that illusion. Face to face, or nothing at all.

“My, you are bold, aren't you?” Lucifer covers his mouth with one slender hand and laughs, “You defeated that little failed experiment of mine, and now you think you can order me around? Well, for that amusement alone, I'll grant your request. Gaze now upon my true form, human, and despair!”

With that proclamation, Lucifer's beautiful form shatters like glass and reforms, shadows lifting to reveal the brutal ugliness of his true form. As big as a mountain and twice as imposing, the muscled devil looms over you and rumbles out a deep laugh.

Impressive, you shoot back, but nothing you've not seen before.

“Careful, mortal,” Lucifer growls, “That pride of yours will be your downfall – I should know. Now answer my question: Why are you here? Have you seen the value in my world of strength, now that you would be certain to rule such a thing?”

Some part of your surprise must have been obvious enough for Lucifer to skim those thoughts from your mind, because he laughs again. “Of course, human. The four Archangels lie broken beneath you – what greater claim to rule would that be? Join me, defeat God's final lapdog and take your place on the throne of mankind. Who else can make you an offer like that?”

It's almost enough to be tempting, but you've come too far on your own merits to abandon your crusade now.

Leon was... nothing more than an experiment? The question floats to the front of your mind before you can stop it, carried along on a tide of mingled outrage and pity. Had Lucifer set Leon in your path, knowing that the reanimated man wouldn't stand a chance of defeating you?

“I hoped he would crush you,” Lucifer answers you honestly, “But I never expected it. It seems that the Magatama prefer fresh meat, not some corpse draped in death's fineries. I learn from my mistakes, human, and the next servant I put in your path won't be so easily defeated.”

That bastard, you think to yourself, using people like tools only to discard them at the first stumble. God, Lucifer – they're all the same. He can offer whatever he likes, you think harshly at Lucifer, but it won't make any difference. You've got your own plans, and they need Lucifer to be in a position to be in a decent fight. Take this power, you sneer – he's going to need every drop.

“A fighting spirit,” Lucifer snarls, “But it will all go to waste. You see, I know what your plans are – you hope to claim the True Divinity for yourself, don't you? Not the feeble power that the pretender God has scraped together, but the power to creates worlds! Piteous maggot – you think a mere human can control that power? You'll be reduced to dust in seconds!”

Bullshit. He's scared, that's all this is. One last desperate ruse to convince you not to claim your prize. Well, it won't work. You're going to march to the top of the Tower, and you won't stop for anything.

“So be it,” Lucifer growls, “Accept a fool's death. My patience is infinite – one day, this world will be mine.”

Fine, you retort, but he'll be waiting for a long time. Then, as you savour getting in the last word, you feel your consciousness draining back into reality. Darkness engulfs you... and doesn't let go.

As you languish in the darkness, a silky voice flows out around you. “I'm not angry,” the voice oozes, “I'm just disappointed in you, human. I thought we had a deal.”

Mastema. You wish you could spit, because just saying his name out loud makes your mouth feel unclean. Of course, you didn't actually say his name out loud, but thinking it with such venom is bad enough.

“Of course, I expected you to back on your end of the bargain,” Mastema continues, with such indifferent contempt that you can practically see him shrugging, “I took steps to work around the possibility, but it seems they were insufficient. I didn't expect Lucifer to use one of the forbidden insects – but it doesn't matter. His pawn has left the board, while mine is still in play. Tell me, do you play chess? No? I'm not surprised, really.”

So, did Mastema call you here for a reason, you think out loud, or did he just get the urge to insult your intelligence?

“Two things, really,” Mastema tells you, “The Fallen One is right – seizing the True Divinity is pointless, for one such as you. Seek the Great Will's forgiveness, and you might yet prevail. My second point...” The angel trails off here, a smug certainty entering his voice, “When you see what I've done to the world, I want you to remember one thing. This is all YOUR fault. The Great Will has seen your actions, and judged the world accordingly. Remember this moment, human.”

The voice fades, soon replaced by two more familiar ones. Petra and Cassandra, pleading with you to wake up. Begging, with voices shrill with panic. Their voices grow louder as you feel yourself return to the world, dread building in your breast as you try to imagine what might be waiting for you.

“Amelia!” Cassandra screams as you finally stir, “Wake up, please wake up! It's... it's happening! Whatever you did, it's really happening!”

Groaning and clutching your head, you stumble to your feet and look around. Everything seems... fine. What the hell is Cassandra yelling about? Then you turn and follow her pointed finger, and your jaw drops. The ground in the distance has broken open, countless buildings collapsing into rubble and sliding into the abyss. London, the Earth, is shattering, being torn apart to make way for some new and terrible creation. In the distance you see a great shape – the Tower, it could be nothing else, rising up from beneath the ground. That's it – where you have to go.

That's not the only thing that rises, however. You see, as a tiny dot floating in the distance, Mastema's black wings spreading wide above a particularly large fissure. Then, with a shuddering groan like reality itself is crumbling under its own weight, something rises up from the pit. The world has been judged, you realise, and found unworthy. This is the final fate of the world you knew – destruction at the hands of this... abomination.

“Satan!” Mastema's ecstatic voices reaches you, even at this distance, “Judge of Heaven – does this sinful world offend you? What is your verdict, oh great one?”

It can't speak. No... it can't. You feel, somehow, that if the fiend rising out of the ground speaks, you'll lose your mind. You plead, first muttering to yourself and then shouting defiance to the sky. Don't speak! Don't say it! Don't!

Then Satan speaks, in a voice so heavy with the weight of the ages that you feel shaken to the very core at the sound of it.

“GUILTY.”

And the world burns.
>>
whelp, gotta go to bed.

You don't know what happens next. Not immediately, at least. Your mind is blank for a length of time – time that you will never be able to measure or recover – and then you wake to find yourself running mindlessly though the blazing city streets. Everything is burning – stone, metal and wood, all consigned to the same fate. Nothing is spared, save for the Tower itself. That lone survivor rises high into the sky above you, plunging straight up into the churning storms that you've grown so used to.

More than once, as you flee towards the sanctuary offered by the Tower, the ground before you gives way and crumples into the void. There are stars there, burning in some far off distance. Stars, beneath the surface of the Earth – the sheer wrongness of that lone fact is enough to drive your mind back to the precipice. You shut your mind off and run, ignoring everything else but the lunatic rhythm of your boots slapping against the pavement. That's the only way you can survive.

Somehow, you make it. You find yourself at the foot of the Tower, with Cassandra and Petra at your side. Petra pants for air, lying on the cool ground while Cassandra kneels, gazing back at the burning world and openly weeping. You're alive. You're actually alive. Not just alive, but alive at your destination – the Tower's doorway standing ajar before you. Inviting you in.

Part of you wants to just... move. Barge into the Tower and start wrecking shit until they give you the keys to creation. That's all you feel like doing right about now – beating up whatever you find inside until they let you bring back the world they've taken from you. But... no. You need to look back and remember the old world. Remember it in as much detail as possible so, when the time comes, you can recreate it properly. No, not recreate it – create a better world.

You stumble over and sit next to Cassandra, watching the old world burn to the ground. Here, protected by the Tower's magic, you feel nothing – no heat, no wind, nothing. It's like watching some grotesque performance. Buildings that were erected long before even your grandparents were born collapse and crumble, flaking away as ash as they are swallowed by the abyss. You spy a few last traces of green vanish as Hyde Part is swallowed up. At that sight, Cassandra gives a shuddering sob.

“They... they got out, didn't they?” she murmurs, “They must have done. Please... please tell me they got out okay.”

They must have done, you agree. You think of your father, living amongst the fairies, and pray.

“I'm fine,” Cassandra tells you, rubbing her eyes and sniffing, “I'm fine now, I promise. It's just... just so...”

You understand, you whisper, still hypnotised by the flames tearing through your old world. Grief slowly turns to anger – a dull fury that pulses at your temples – as you watch. You're ready to finish this.

“Right,” your friend nods, her mouth a hard line, “We can't stop now, can we?”

“We can't,” Petra agrees, joining you to watch the last fragments of creation boil away. When nothing is left other than a blank expanse, dotted with stars, you all turn to enter the Tower.

Inside, the Tower is tiled with slabs of black and white stone, all polished to a gleaming sheen. A grand staircase lies ahead of you, sealed by a vast golden gate. To the sides, two smaller staircases wind up into the depths of the Tower. Before you can think of where to go first, however, you'll have to deal with the guard.

Belial mentioned him, as you recall. A great beast, wound with snakes. It stands – or hovers, rather – behind a lectern and stares down at you with curiosity. Its wings flutter slightly as it leans down. You feel, rather absurdly, like you're trying to sneak into a club. Any minute now, this thing is going to demand to see some kind of ID.

“Welcome, humans,” it rumbles, “I am Mithra, the judge and guardian of the True Divinity. Step forth, now, and proclaim your allegiance.”

Claim your allegiance? What's that supposed to mean?

“Which patron has blessed your passage?” Mithra asks, “By whose permission have you come here? Answer now, or face banishment from this holy site!”

You swear allegiance to humanity, you announce, and enduring freedom!

“Is that so?” Mithra asks, a slow grin creeping across his face. Didn't Belial warn you about this – how the guard would try to screw you over in any way possible? You glance first to Cassandra and then to Petra, both of them returning your slight nods. If it comes to a fight, they'll have your back. “Humanity has blessed your passage?”

That's what you said, you reply, looking up at Mithra's eyes. One is golden, set within a gaudy pyramid.

“I'm a human, and I bless her passage,” Petra adds, “So fuck off!”

“I'm also human, and I bless her passage,” Cassandra speaks up, “So, um, please may we enter?”

Mithra seems to think on this for a long moment before leaning down to shout his reply in your face. His breath carries the reek of old meat across as he bellows a single world: “NO!”

You glare up at the beast for a moment, the awkward silence drawing out until you ask for an explanation.

“You claim to speak for humanity,” Mithra sneers, “And yet there is one human who does not endorse you – a man of God, who entered this place before you. You cannot enter here until he agrees, and you cannot enter here to MAKE him agree – so leave!”

So he wants a fight, does he? That's fine – you'll give him a fight.

Heartless and Cernunnos appear back to back, baring their teeth and brandishing their weapons, as Morrigan swoops up behind you like a great black bird.

“You had your chance,” Mithra bellows, pulling out a pair of long, twisted daggers – not unlike the iron stakes that Heartless wields – and pointing them at you. “Life and death, light and dark, bow at my command! You, human, will regret your arrogance!”

You are so sick of demons telling you that. Every time you refuse to bow and scrape before them, it's the same damn story - “You'll regret your arrogance” or some such nonsense. It's never worked before, and it isn't going to work now.

No, this time the boot is on the other food. HE had HIS chance, and now you're going to be the one teaching him a lesson – even if you need to carve it into his flesh.

Heartless?

“Yesss...” the murderous demon hisses as you take a step backwards, shielding yourself from what you expect to be a messy fight.

You want that eye.

“My master, yes!” Heartless leers, his teeth glistening with an eager sheen of spittle. Morrigan, you notice, glides further away from the bloodthirsty demon, a rather uncomfortable look on her sharp face.

“You want this?” Mithra roars, turning his head so that his golden eye faces you, a great darkness building within the centre of it, “Foolish human, taste the darkness that in anathema to all life!” Then, with a sound not unlike fabric being ripped, a bolt of pure blackness shoots out from the eye and streaks right towards you.

“Not today!” Cernunnos snaps, pouncing in front of you and taking the beam of darkness square in the chest. It ripples across his bare chest like a pool of liquid shadow before fading away to nothing. It might be fatal to human life, but the horned god is powered by a divinity of his own, proof against such measures. Mithra, seeing the failure, groans and lets his arms hang slack by his sides. His groan turns into a scream as a great length of gleaming steel bursts from his chest, Morrigan's sword spitting him like a pig.

With Mithra defenceless, writhing on Morrigan's blade, Heartless is able to simply stroll up and reach up, tearing the golden eye out of Mithra's head – taking a chunk of bloody flesh with it. Gore pulses out of the beast's skull as it howls, dropping his daggers and clutching a hand to the wound. Ignoring the shouts, Heartless delivers the dripping trophy to your waiting hand, a length of gold chair dangling like an optical nerve.

That'll do, Heartless. That'll do.

Two keys? You mean you've got another damn fetch quest before you can finish things?

“Gehenna,” Mithra nods towards the right staircase, “And Elysium. Hell and Heaven, both seeking the other's key. Only those with both... can... ugh...”

Well, you shrug, you were planning on taking a look that way anyway. This doesn't change a thing. You nod to Morrigan, who pulls her sword free from Mithra's back and swings it around in a brutal arc, decapitating the beast in an instant. Dark red blood fountains from the severed neck, raining down on the ground where you stood a few moments ago. Just like you expected – a messy fight.

>Gained Mithra's Eye – Wearer gains immunity to Light and Dark (Instant kill) magic.

“So, uh,” Cassandra approaches, stepping over a puddle of blood, “Where first, do you think?”

Where indeed? No doubt Metatron is waiting for you in Elysium, while you suspect Beelzebub might be waiting at Gehenna. Neither one will be an easy fight – but you weren't expecting any easy fights from now on. Well, except Mithra, who died like a scrub.

“He said Joseph was here,” Petra reminds you, “He'll be looking for us, yes? Maybe we should find him first.”

Maybe you should – so where first?

Looking at everyone's demons we are pretty solid on surviving Beelzebub's instant death attacks. Too bad Gurr is dead. Just need to make sure Cass doesn't summon Cu Chulainn for that fight.

On the flip side for Metatron we also have some good contenders for surviving Holy, but not as much as we do for Dark. There is also Fire of Sinai to think about too. Ose Hallel, Cu Chu, Cern, and Petra's Fiends will be key here.

Well, the last thing Leon told you to do was to go to Hell – so why not take that as advice? It's as good a place to start as any, after all. Joseph can wait, unless he's trying to hunt down Beelzebub as well – then he can take a fucking number and join the queue.

Nodding to yourself, you march towards the right staircase and make your way up it, following the spiralling steps into the ceiling. The light fades as you leave the entrance hall behind, but you don't let that deter you. Ignoring the darkness that wraps around you like a blanket, you proceed up the staircase, feeling the temperature drop around you as you go. By the time you reach the top, the stairs beneath your feet have grown slick with a fine layer of ice.

Every surface here in Gehenna seems to be hewn from rough basalt, and covered with the same layer of frost that graced the stairs. It seems empty here, without any sign or trace of life. Perhaps this is a consequence of denying Hell the power it sought – all but the strongest of demons have been unable to survive in such a place. Elysium, if that is the case, will be equally empty.

“Ah, wait a minute!” Cassandra asks, stumbling up the stairs to join you, “I've got a message. Let me see...” She taps at her phone and, a moment later, Ose appears behind her.

“A suggestion, if I may,” he begins, with a typically sombre voice, “Not every devil in Hell needs to be our enemy. I have an old friend that we might be able to work with. He won't help us for free, but it's something to consider.”

He's got your attention – who is this friend, and how can he help? And, perhaps more importantly, what is he likely to demand before you can get him on your side?
>>
>>43179969

“His name is Moloch, He's in charge of Hell's forges and armoury – I have little doubt that, provided we can work out a deal, he will allow us access to his stockpile.” Ose scratches his chin thoughtfully, “There will be a great many weapons there, some of terrible power.”

Right, well, that answers most of your questions, but what about the last one? What does he expect this Moloch guy to demand from you?

“I doubt it would be anything strenuous,” Ose tells you, a little evasively, “I've known him for a while – he's the type to send girls off on pointless quests, but he respects a deal once he's made one. He'll be below us, in the forge, but I leave the final decision with you.”

Well, you say as you glance around as Cassandra and Petra. Opinions?

“Making a deal with a devil? I don't know...” Cassandra shrugs, “I mean, we've got weapons, don't we?”

“We can always have MORE weapons, yes?” Petra butts in, her lone eye bright and eager, “Let's talk. See what this thing wants.”

Well, is Ose is willing to vouch for him, then you'll trust him. Okay, perhaps you won't TRUST him, but you'll listen to what he has to say and consider making a deal with him. You let Ose lead you down the dripping hallways until you come across a grand staircase, leading both upwards and downwards. Up, you presume, leads to...

“Beelzebub's garden,” Ose finishes your sentence, shuddering slightly, “A loathsome place, and no mistake.”

Right, well, it's good to know where it is, at least. For now, though, you're heading downstairs. These stairs are broad and rough, with enough grip that the skin of ice on the surface doesn't turn the whole thing into a deathtrap. The air gets warmer and warmer as you descend, and soon you can hear the rhythmic sound of hammers beating metal into shape. When the walls open up, you gaze upon rows of machines pounding glowing metal into swords. Swords for what soldiers, you wonder, but receive no answer – maybe these machines were set into motion during some long-forgotten age, and still work to this day?

When the stairs end, you wander through the labyrinth of shrieking machinery until you find a small mountain of twisted metal, with a great fire raging in its hollow guts. An iron throne sits at the top of the mountain, with a bull-headed monster sitting upon it.

“Ose!” the devil shouts, “Well I'll be damned! How many years has it been?”

“A great many!” Ose hollers back, “Listen Moloch, these humans and I need your help – how about letting us into the armouries for old time's sake?”

“Nice try, you old asshole!” Moloch yells, “You know how this works – favour for a favour!”

So what's it going to take, you ask, to get him to play along?
>>
>>43180429

“I'm hungry!” Moloch roars, “Feed me a stray angel or two, and I'll think about it!”

“He means to feed the forge,” Ose assures you, nodding towards the open fire, “The fires here demand sacrifice, and angels keep them satisfied for the greatest length of time.”

Well, that sounds easy enough, you mention. Just pop down to Elysium and grab a few wandering angels, then hurry back here and toss them on the barbecue. That's all it's going to take to get admission to Lucifer's armoury?

“You'll not find a better deal anywhere in the world!” Moloch gives you a strangely bovine grin. You think about telling him that the world ended – twice, in fact – but decide against it. He might not get out much, but that's not really your problem, is it?

“I knew this was a bad idea,” Cassandra murmurs, “C'mon Amelia, this is barely any better than human sacrifice!”

“Human sacrifice?” Petra's ears perk up, “Maybe we can feed him Joseph, yes? Not quite an angel, but one less thorn in our side.”

“That's awful!” Cassandra protests, “He's still a human being!”

Bickering again. Shaking your head in wry amusement, you give Moloch your answer.

An angel or two? You think you can manage that. It's not like he's asking you to sweep up Michael's remains and shovel them down his throat or anything – just grab a couple of angels and jam them in. Cassandra might not like it much, but you'll deal with that later. Chances are, you'd be killing them either way – does it really matter whether Heartless tears them apart, or they get burned up in the forge? Dead is dead, either way.

“I suppose you're right,” Cassandra sighs when you mention that, as you're walking back to the entrance hall. From there, you take the left staircase to Elysium. In contrast with Gehenna, it's bright and warm in Elysium, with the walls and floor carved from white marble. This is more like the Heaven you imagined, not like that amber void you visited once.

“It's beautiful,” Cassandra breaths as she looks around. You don't like what you see in her eyes – a trace of regret, as though she's wishing she'd taken another path.

“Bah,” Petra grumbles, “A shiny tourist attraction, yes? Build to attract fools and their devotion. Now shh, don't you hear that?”

Hear... what? Then you DO hear it – several voices raised in murmured prayer. Motioning for your allies to remain quiet, you approach the cluster of voices and peer around the corner. The trio of women you see there are... well, they're dressed like...

They're barely dressed at all, is what you're saying. Are they really angels? Blindfolded and dressed only in the most meagre of leather bindings, they look more like exotic prostitutes. Not that, eh, you'd know what those looked like.

Now, how to handle this? With your reputation, you doubt they'll just go willingly.

“I can handle this,” Petra murmurs to you, “Easy, yes?”

“Not a chance,” Cassandra argues, “No offence, but this should be my job.”

You nod to Cassandra – she knows angels better than either of you, maybe she can resolve this as peacefully as possible. You'll be waiting though, so if you hear any fighting you're going to come in swinging.

“I understand,” Cassandra gives you a grave nod, “I'll try and keep things peaceful.”

“This is a mistake, yes?” Petra murmurs as Cassandra slips away, creeping towards the gathering of blindfolded angels. “She sympathises with them. Has she forgotten what we're getting them for?”

That could be a problem, you admit, but you'll cross that bridge when you come to it. Then you gesture for the redhead to stay quiet as you watch. Cassandra creeps up to the loose circle and kneels down amongst them, whispering along with their prayers. As you watch, the angels fall silent, turning their blindfolded heads in Cassandra's direction. By the end of the prayer, Cassandra is the only one speaking.

“Please,” Cassandra says, her voice quiet but resolute, “I ask only that you hear me out. I'm not demanding trust or obedience, I won't command or control you, I just want you to listen to me.”

When the angels are silent, Cassandra continues, “Can you say the same about God? I know that you're weak – I've seen you here, praying for strength – and I'm here to offer you my protection. I believe... I think that's the right thing to do. I'm strong, but I want to use that strength to protect those who need protecting. Not so they are forced to obey me, but... so they want to work WITH me.”

“She's not bad at this,” Petra admits, leaning over your shoulder to watch the speech.

“Together, we can be stronger,” Cassandra tells the assembled angels, “And by being stronger, we can protect the weak. That's why I'd like you to work with me. So, um, do you want to?”
>>
Well shit, if she pulls this off I'd feel bad about just tossing them into the furnace, weak as they are. They would no longer be enemies, but allies we'd be sacrificing.

One by one, the angels nod, their beautiful lips curving up into warm smiles. One stands, bowing low to Cassandra. “You speak from the heart, human, and with compassion,” she says graciously, “We are the lowest of Heaven's host, but you have offered us your hand in friendship. You are not without sin, that is true, but together we can walk towards a brighter future. Will you accept our service?”

“I will,” Cassandra nods, and you see her hand reach up to wipe at her eyes. One by one, the angels fade out as they enter into her care. Petra's jaw hangs slack in amazement as Cassandra returns to you.

“I volunteered for this, I know that,” Cassandra tells you, looking you straight in the eye, “But don't ask me to do anything like this again. They're so... naïve. Gullible. They'll do anything I tell them, and why? Because I gave them a few kind words?”

It's... you fall silent, words failing you. You hadn't expected things to work out so well, or Cassandra to get so involved. Maybe Petra would have been better for this, but how would she have handled things? Stroll up, shoot one of them in the head and demand obedience from the rest? Easier maybe, but...

“We're sacrificing them like beasts!” Cassandra protests suddenly, crying out, “Like animals!”

Hell. Just listening to Cassandra's speech made you feel guilty about asking her to help. She hadn't been happy about the plan from the moment you made it, but she went along with it with regardless. Somehow, you wish she'd argue more, to insist on keeping the angels in her service but – and this is the worst thing – you're pretty sure that she'd give them up if you just asked. Are you really willing to make her do this, just for the chance to score some new weapons?

Heaving a heavy sigh, you meet Cassandra's eyes. She's the one who offered them protection, you tell her, so you can't force her to break her word. If she doesn't want to send these ones to the fire, you can always delve further in and see if you can find some other angels. Hostile ones, the kind that you don't mind cutting up and burning. The kind of angel that would eagerly do the same to you. Maybe even Mastema – it'd be a pleasure to throw that piece of trash into a furnace.

“You mean that?” Cassandra's eyes brighten, “I mean, really?”

Well, you don't have much of a choice, do you? Not after that speech she gave about protecting the weak and all that. You'll find some strong angels and put the squeeze on them – how does that sound?

“Much better,” Cassandra nods, “Um, not that it's totally okay to burn any other angels. I still think it's a pretty, uh, rude thing to do, but...”

But if they deserve it?

“Well, that's different, isn't it?” a nervous laugh escapes Cassandra as she wipes her eyes again, “Do you think we'll be able to find some more angels? I mean, it's pretty quiet around here.”

You'll think of something, you tell Cassandra. For now, just press on and see what turns up. This is supposed to be the battlefield upon which Heaven and Hell will fight, you'll find some soldiers eventually, right?

You end up wandering aimlessly down Elysium's empty halls until, at long last, you hear something. A sound of battle, you realise, of blades clashing against armour. Definitely no innocence there. Turning to give Cassandra a victorious nod – a nod that she returns – you hurry towards the source of the sound. When you find it, you realise that there are more than enough angels there.

A group of archangels, wielding swords and draped in armour, are beating their blades against a sealed door, as if trying to break inside. Directing their actions with shouted orders is a robed angel, with something strangely familiar about it. When the angel turns at the sound of your arrival, you realise why he looked so familiar. His face is as perfect as every creature of Heaven, yet one of his eyes is covered with a swath of white silk.

“You!” the angels screams, in a not particularly angelic rage, “You profane this place with every one of your heathen footsteps! I won't let you leave here alive, human!”

“This is more like it,” Cassandra says to herself as Ose forms behind her, his swords gleaming as he brandishes them.

She can say that again. If it's a fight he wants, you tell the one-eyed angel, you'll be only too happy to give him one! You'll send him right back to Michael's side!

This is going to be another one of those “You'll regret your arrogance” moments, isn't it?

Before the angel can answer your question, you're quick to throw out your demons, with Heartless and Cernunnos appearing behind you and Hresvelgr swooping in above. Then, as you're about to attack, the angel's face grows pale with rage.

“My eye!” he gasps, pointing an affronted finger at Petra, “Do your blasphemies know no end? You take the Lord's flesh, and fuse it into the most soulless, wretched of mortals?”

“Soulless?” Petra snarls, reaching up to touch her hair defensively, “You bastard! See how many jokes you can make when I rip out your tongue!”

...You're pretty sure he was talking about that demonic pact she made once, but this is neither the time nor the place to remind her of that. For now, you're content to watch as Petra wades into the massed archangels that form up around their master. Sighing and rolling your eyes, you turn to your demons and tells them to keep at least some of the angels alive. Just... some, okay?

“Alive?” Cernunnos sounds outraged by the prospect, “What about intact?”

Oh, you're not fussy about that. Go wild. As soon as the words have left your mouth, Cernunnos and Heartless hurl themselves into the fray, cutting and slashing with wild abandon. As you watch, Cernunnos impales one of the archangels upon his spear, the stone tip piercing right through layers of heavenly armour, and throws the poor victim up into the air. As it arcs through the air, Hresvelgr swoops down and grabs the angel, holding the warrior tight in its talons.

Well. That's one down. Now you just need...

Before you can even finish that thought, the one-eyed angel lands at your feet, his arms and legs twisted at awkward angels and a low groan escaping him. Heartless appears a moment later, looking absurdly pleased with himself.

Well then.

After that, it doesn't take long for the rest of the angels to die, either cut apart by your demons or hacked to bits by a jubilant Petra. Hresvelgr settles, holding both of the still living angels still and keeping them from escaping as you look around, taking stock of the situation. When you got here, the angels were trying to break down the door here – but why? You should really take these angels back to Moloch, but...

Well, it won't hurt just to investigate a little bit, now would it?

You knock at the door and call out to whatever lies within that the angels have been dealt with. When there isn't a reply, you turn to leave. Then, just before you can walk away, a deep voice calls out: “They're all dead?”

That's right, you reply, and watch as the door grinds open. What steps out is... not what you were expecting. A great beast, with a skull for a face. A familiar skull. The Minotaur – no, Marco. Not someone you were ever expecting to see here. Not just Marco, though, as you see the small bundle cradled in his arms. A child, it looks like.

“Human,” Marco sighs when he sees you, “I owe you my life. Not that I expected to live long, now that I've reached this place.”

Waving at your friends to lower their weapons, you give Marco a closer look. What does he mean by that – he doesn't expect to live very long?

“I came here for one reason, and one reason only,” the Minotaur growls, “To find God and stand before His throne. When I'm there, I'll show Him my daughter – show Him the girl He killed.”

>>43183061
>Shame it had to end this way though!
A little yeah. I wonder how the dynamic would have changed if we had found her. Big sister Amelia tried desperately to keep her safe and away from all the fairy court bullshit.
>>
>>43183104
>tried
trying*
>>
>>43183098
>Why did the angels think they had a chance knowing our collective rep?

The usual angel arrogance I'd imagine. Which is ironic cause they always claim we are arrogant.
>>
>>43183072

Still making my mind up on that one. We could use some more fire demons, so...

>>43183098

Being Dominion is suffering! Angels are pretty confident, but their mindset is, ultimately, that their place in God's plan is as warriors - whether they can win or not. Marco's daughter is pretty young - thirteen. Petra's pretty neutral on the angel issue, since we're getting power from Moloch either way. Cass is certainly going to appreciate this, I can say that for certain! As for Amelia's feelings on loss, that'll depend on next thread but I imagine she'll be pretty down about it.
>>
>>43183212
Will the angels change into something else or be available for upgrades? She picked up 3 of them right?
>>
>>43183212
So I know Gurr is dead and recovering, but isn't Eligor just extremely wounded?

Couldn't Unicorn or Daisoujou patch him up?

>>43183316
I wonder if they can do something with Metatron's corpse, kinda like Ose did with Michael.
>>
>>43183333
Hell Mastema would likely buff them given how much older and stronger he is, provided they don't turn into something else entirely for straying.
>>
>>43183316

Cass has three pretty low tier angels, yes. Not quite sure what to do with them yet - ablative armour for death magic, maybe?

>>43183333

Healing magic can be used to get our demons back in the action sooner - Should have mentioned that earlier. Sorry!

Maybe all three of them can turn into 1.

>>43183390
*Wink wink*
>>
>>43183390
maybe forge 2 into wings/winged armor and upgrade the last into something using Metatron's or Mastema's body?
>>
>>43183390
Maybe when Cass uses all three of her summoning slots for the Angels they can act together for increased power? If I remember correctly, Angels are good at throwing wind around. Or is that just Persona?
>>
>>43183390
So is Ose enjoying the female attention in Cass's phone?
>>
>>43183473

I tend to use Nocturne stats when possible, and Angels are weak to force/wind in that one. I am throwing around a few ideas for combination attacks and such, as well as transforming them into other things. Nothing final though

>>43183596

Let's just say that it's a good thing he doesn't wear a lot. You don't want something as petty as clothes slowing you down!
>>
>>43183626
So I assume if we take a break for any length of time Cuh is summoning himself out to spend time with Cass? That's going to be awkward.

Is it weird I could see Cass fill out the other 8 slots angels and they kinda glomp together into something stronger through belief?
>>
>>43183725
>"Cass...why do you suddenly have Demiurge?"
>>
>>43183725
>That's going to be awkward.

What could be less awkward than hanging out with your friend and her non-human boyfriend who you sort of like yourself as well as your racist friend who sort of likes you?

I mean, nothing about that is awkward!

In other news, I do like the image of Cass having an angelic petting zoo in her phone.
>>
>>43183820
The petting zoo would be IC for her.

As far as spending time, It'd be the noises the make because Cuh spent hours listening to Ose and his new friends on end that'd be awkward.
>>
>>43183930
>The party finally reaches a safe place
>CuCu pops out of storage
>"The noises, the noises!"
>Proceeds to keep Amelia awake all night
That's it, we're never stopping for a rest again
>>

TO make matters worse Petra was desperately trying to get in her pants, and Heartless and Morrigan were doing.... something that we don't even want to think about.
>>
>>43184071
>Heartless and Morrigan were doing.... something that we don't even want to think about.

Nothing lewd!
It's the same thing Heartless does with everyone. Grinning and flexing his claws.
>>
>>43184120
What about Cern Eligor and Valk then? Or Hrej and Gurr?
>>
>>43184275

Cernunnos MAY have "witnessed" Valkyrie a few times, but that's the only untoward business that's been going on.

Having Heartless hanging around doesn't do much for the mood
>>
>>43183432
>This armor....looks like bondage gear. How can leather from THREE angels seems like even LESS than from a single one!?
>>
>>43184336
I would have thought Carnby would have put a combat simulator in for Jack.
>>
>>43184395
>Cass getting lewd armor
That'll keep CuCu happy
>>
>>43184448
The Gae Bolge rises!
>>
>>43184336
What's it actually look like in DSP storage?
>>
>>43184573
Considering Undine said it wasn't a month for her when we went into a coma I assume its just like stasis, but are able to tell when they want to give their input? Not sure.
>>
>>43184573

For some reason, I always imagined it as being pretty similar to a budget hotel. Lots of identical rooms without much in the way of warmth or comfort, but still being nice enough. It's also linked with the user - when the user sleeps, the demons are, in essence, reduced to raw data. When Amelia is awake, they can think and interact in a virtual space.
>>
>>43184695
Undine and Pixie still at each other throats? Or are they only sane demon besties? Would we get a super Undine if we took her to the top of heaven?
>>
>>43184814

It's more of a tsundere friendly rivalry kind of thing at this stage. Super Pixies only though!
>>
>>43184850
>tsundere
Please tell me Undine hasn't been given Petra ideas.

Due the different [hone libraries have a inter phone sports league?
>>
>>43184883
>Please tell me Undine hasn't been given Petra ideas.

Taking advice from filthy demons? Perish the thought!

No sports league, unfortunately. Each phone is its own discrete unit, without any ability to interact in terms of demons. You can move demons from phone to phone with a computer, but they're not in a conscious state when that's happening.
>>
>>43184990
Good, Undine can be very persuasive.

Any food in there?
>>
>>43185028

The demonic equivalent of scooby snacks, basically. Purely a digital construction, of course, but when demons exist as a form of date, what's the difference?
>>
>>43185114
So how's Carnby and the res of the court doing in Fuckoffville? Has Titania made him her king yet? If so amused and perplexed is Scathach?
>>
>>43185171
How amused and perplexed*

ugh
>>
>>43185171

I like to think that the entire thing has turned into a farcical romantic comedy, with Titania trying to make her interests known to an oblivious Carnby. Scathach finds the entire situation amusing, and refuses to step in and help.
>>
>>43185273
Sad thing is I could see that. Scathach pulling up in a comfy blanket, using a fire spell to make popcorn and watching it via a scrying orb. Pretty sure everyone else is facepalming at it though.
>>
>>43185317
>"I thought maybe we could... study together tonight?"

Carnby replaces Cu as harem protag?
>>
>>43185436
>Carnby hears a collective groan across the entire court.
>Chalks it up to the wind.
>>
>>43185460
Its not really a harem if one girl is after him. More of a Romcom.
>>
>>43185460
Which is odd because before this he was getting it on the regular. Maybe becoming a protagonist just destroys your ability to sense romance?
>>
>>43185519
Carnby has never been a romantic, has always been oblivious, and Titties has had lots of issues emoting herself.
>>
>>43184883

hehehe, Well Petra, if you want to get into Amelia's under things, her weakness seems to be her belief in humanity's ability to come together. Maybe mention something about humans shouldn't rely on either demons nor angels for success. I guess you could also just get her chocolate too!
