Become The Vampire Quest 2

You decide to munch on the cookies while you decide what to do next. Probably grab some food and get a seat. You're not sure what urge compels you to eat them, whether it's common courtesy or a desire to test the limits of your own endurance, but you get in line and start to eat.

You have never known a struggle like this before.

Every moments that you spend eating these cookies is like a wide-awake nightmare. It starts slow, noticing a few things wrong about each one individually, but before long you're aware of every flaw in the recipe, every tiny nagging thing that makes them so hard to stomach. It's there that you begin to overcome it. You steel yourself against the texture of burnt cookie dough, the way it crunches in your mouth unpleasantly. You find ways to endure the flavors, the conflict between the undercooked flour in the center and the burnt and unrecognizable exterior.

By the time you reach the end of the line you're almost enjoying them. Almost. At the very least you've managed to overcome this obstacle. You feel the endorphin rush, the surge of delight as the strain subsides. It almost brings a tear to your eye, but you pull yourself together and manage to order a slice of pizza and a drink with a straight face. You grab your food and look out at the food court. There are empty seats here and there, but nowhere promising. Then you notice Sammy, off to one side with Vanessa and a few other girls. There's an empty seat with them, but Sammy isn't looking your way to signal you over.

You head for Sammy and her friends with your tray of food and notice something as you approach. Sammy isn't on the lookout for you. Vanessa is. As you approach, she even smiles a little bit, though not at you. More like she's smiling that you're approaching, as though some sort of plan is coming together perfectly. It gives you pause for thought. You never actually saw who delivered the treats, or even who was following you in the first place. Sammy might not have a clue that you got the cookies at all. Heck, they might not even be hers to begin with. Something fishy is going on.

You walk towards the table with a smile. You know how to solve this situation without playing into Vanessa's hands. You make sure to pass by both Sammy and Vanessa on your way to the door.

“Hey Sammy.”

She practically jumps, turning to face you and looking a little stunned that you know her name. Vanessa smiles a little bit, not bothering to look at you. Sammy hesitates for a moment before smiling nervously.

“Um... Hey there, new kid.”

You give her a gentle smile.

“Oliver.”

Sammy nods.

“Right, Oliver. Um... What's up?”

You shrug a bit.

“Just saying hi. I don't really have anywhere to sit so I'm heading for the roof. I heard you were the track captain, right? I'll be there at practice tomorrow to try out. Figured you should know.”

Sammy nods again, slower, her smile widening a bit.

“You will? Awesome! I mean, you've got great reflexes, and you're pretty quick on your feet. We need people like you on the team!”

Vanessa clears her throat and Sammy winces a little bit.

“Right, sorry, inside voice... Anyway...”

Sammy smiles cheerfully at you.

“I'm really glad you'll be there tomorrow. We've been needing one more member for some of the competitions this semester.”

You smile and start to walk off.

“Glad I we lucked out then. See you around.”

Sammy glances at Vanessa, then at you.

“Mind if I join you on the roof so we can talk a bit?”

Vanessa's fork tumbles from her fingers and she shoots a glare at Sammy that the other girl either ignores or doesn't notice.

We pretty much know they're werewolves OOC, but do we know about the pack tendencies of werewolves in-game?

Maybe she doesn't want another pairing to compete against her and her boyfriend's rule? Unpaired wolves never become alphas in packs.
>>
>>43325158
So Vanessa is the Alpha Lycan...uh. Also what is Sammy and Vanessa appearance.
>>

Are lycanthropes a thing in this setting?

Werewolves are, but have there been references to the various "thropes"?

It hink is more likely Vanessa want us since we dodge her "greeting" when she arrived at school.. If she want us to be in the track or what i don't know
>>
“Sure thing, I don't mind at all.”

Sammy nods and grabs her bag, not even sparing a glance at Vanessa. The other girls are snickering at Vanessa, and you barely manage to notice their teeth. Fangs. Well-hidden, but not completely concealed. Four vampire girls, plus Vanessa, who is probably also a vampire. That means Sammy is likely her “pet”, bound to a blood pact for services rendered and coerced into obedience through the threat of that pact being cashed in. Valuable information.

Sammy follows at your side as you head out of the cafeteria, playing the fool all the while. You're just a schmuck who got given cookies by a girl at school and now you're letting her come with you to the roof, that's all. In the back of your mind you know Sammy is probably taking a huge risk by doing this. She's either desperate or stupid, and she doesn't seem like an idiot. As you reach the roof Sammy sighs quietly, looking over her shoulder before turning to you.

“Thanks for letting me come along.”

You nod a little as you open the door, walking out onto the patio on the roof and heading for a comfortable spot.

“No problem. It's no trouble at all.”

Sammy laughs a little bit.

“It will be for me later. Um...”

She glances at you, nodding to herself as though confirming something.

“Vanessa has me in a bind... She's got some serious blackmail on me so she bosses me around. Anyway... Listen, I know this is a big thing to ask, but I need your help.”

Desperate. Got it.

“You're new here... The first two or three days, everyone finds their pack. I mean, their clique. Whatever. The point is that you're not, uh... beholden to anyone. I need your help dealing with Vanessa and getting out from under her... It started off alright, but lately... Oh, what do you care, you don't even know me...”

She gives you the puppy dog eyes.

“I just... I don't have anyone else I can ask about this...”

Look at it this way, if you didn't know who Bruce Lee was, and you saw him on the street and went to mug him, he would lay you flat on your ass.

Meanwhile, if you knew who Bruce Lee was, then you'd just grab a couple of friends and a gun and stick him up and not get hurt, because he ain't faster than bullets.

Appearing weak is an advantage, then instead of facing overwhelming odds from the start they'll underestimate you.

You take a bite of your pizza and chew it slowly, considering her words.

“You're right. It's a big thing to just ask someone. But I've dealt with bullies before.”

You give her a reassuring smile.

“I'll help you out, if you'll pay me back for it. I'm new here and don't know anyone. Mind helping me out with that? I'll do what I can to help.”

Sammy's face immediately lights up.

“Thanks! You're the best, Oliver!”

She grins and punches your arm. Ow. You manage to keep a straight face though.

“So what kind of blackmail does she have on you anyway? You know what, nevermind.”

You take another bite and wash it down with a sip of your drink.

“I don't need to know right now.”

Sammy looks relieved to hear that, and she sits down next to you.

“What I do need to know is what you're asking for though. I mean, I could try to dig up dirt on her to get her off your back, or figure out something else to make whatever she's holding over your head not matter.”

Sammy sighs a bit and leans back, looking up at the sky.

“She won't let it go without something valuable to replace it... I need your help figuring out something I can trade her. Or... Or some way to... get leverage over her. I can help you out a little bit with that, but there's not a lot I can do. I'm... I can't talk about certain things... It's complicated...”

You pat her on the shoulder.

“It'll take some time, but you picked the right guy for this. Don't worry. I enjoy the taste of freedom, and it's something everyone deserves to have.”

Sammy nods, smiling softly. She leans back a bit more, her hand briefly resting over yours, before she turns bright red and leaps away a few inches, chuckling a bit.

“Sorry... Anyway... I guess that's all. I'll... leave you to it...? I should get back.”

“Actually, can you tell me a bit about the kind of person I'm dealing with? Vanessa is a bitch if she's doing this to you, no offense, and I want to know what tricks she has up her sleeve.”

Sammy pales a little bit.

“Uh... Well...”

You sigh a bit and smile.

“Does she spread rumors? Hurt people? Break their things?”

Sammy almost whimpers.

“...indirectly...”

You nod slightly. You know what she's getting at. Still, it's good to know you're dealing with a manipulative vampire who doesn't do her own dirty work. The head without the hands is much easier to handle, so to speak. You start to ask something else when the door opens, and Vanessa walks out. She smiles at Sammy, but when she opens her mouth her words are dripping with scorn.

“Sammy? You ran off so suddenly that I didn't get a chance to talk to you. Can you come with me so we can speak privately?”

Sammy jumps to her feet and closes her eyes tightly. You can see the fear on her face.

“I...”

She forces herself to smile, the corners of her cheeks twitching as she turns to face Vanessa.

“I-I'll be right there.”

“Actually Sammy, I was wondering if you could stay a little longer.”

You smile at Vanessa, doing your best to play things casually. A gentle nudge first.

“Will that be a problem? I'm new here, and Sammy was filling me in on stuff about the track team.”

Vanessa chuckles softly, looking at the back of her hand.

“Sorry, but that won't be possible. I need her rather urgently.”

She looks at you, and you can see her gaze shift slightly. Sammy looks rather panicked when she notices. Vanessa is looking at you like a speck of dirt on her new white boots.

“How about you just forget all about Sammy for now, hmm? You can remember her later, can't you. Say yes, peon.”

Your glasses continue to be the best investment you've ever made. Still, if that's what a gentle nudge got you, you'd hate to see what forcing the matter would have resulted in.

>Sorry, but that won't work on me. I'm a vampire hunter, I'm trained to resist that kind of thing.

You make a grand gesture and smile at her, bowing low.

“Foolish vampire. Your gaze doesn't work on my kind. Did you forget that? Did you fall for my disguise so readily?”

Vanessa blinks and stares at you for a few moments. At first she looks at you like the colossal retard she believes you to be, and then she starts picking apart the situation.

“Interesting... A resistant human... A rare natural gift or a honed skill... So odds are...”

She hesitates for a moment, before her eyes go wide, taking a small step away from you.

“...that you're a hunter. Samantha! I invoke our blood pact, kill him before he kills me!”

Sammy's eyes turn bright red and she shudders a bit, rushing at you with her hands balled into fists, and she aims a punch right for your face. It's easier than dodging the volleyball this morning, and you slip under the attack, ducking past her. Cover's blown, and only one witness in need of silencing so long as Sammy doesn't turn on you.

Sometimes the dice say “Fuck off and die”. And sometimes, sometimes... you get this. Last post of the night.

-

You charge Vanessa. The only way to keep from blowing your cover completely right now is to end her before she can tell anyone about who you really are, and you draw your stake. Vanessa, to her credit, makes an effort to try to protect herself, but you were pretty accurate earlier. It's easier to deal with the head when the hands are busy, and without Sammy between you, she's almost helpless. You can't help thinking it's the sunlight, or just a general lack of strength, but her arms fail to stop your stake from hitting home.

You ram it into her chest and knock her to the ground, and Vanessa lets out a little cough, eyes wide, almost frightened. She takes small, trembling breaths, her gaze moving from you to the stake. She whimpers softly as she starts to dust, and you drive the stake in a little deeper to finish the job. As she disintegrates you hear the thud of Sammy hitting the floor, and turn to find her laying on the ground unconscious. Oh right. She failed her blood pact command, so she gets some nasty mental whiplash. Well, it's not like she needed to be anywhere for a while now.

You gently prop Sammy up by the door and take stock of the situation. Anyone who had a blood pact with Vanessa knows she's dusted now, or suddenly released them from the deal without warning. You've just shaken up the social hierarchy pretty substantially if she was any good as a vampire. The only evidence of your involvement is the red tint on your stake, since her body is already gone, along with the clothes she had been wearing
>>
You sit down next to Sammy and sigh softly. Things are already messy, but maybe that's a good thing. With the balance of power now swinging wildly, it's anyone's game. A perfect time to make a power play, or find a quiet little part of the social spectrum to ride things out while you work out how to get what you want.

You try to keep thinking positively, rather than consider the full extent of what you've just done, and fail. They'll be looking for you now, searching for a hunter. You slip your stake back into its hiding place and glance at Sam. You suppose for now you'll sit and wait to see what she says when she wakes up. Maybe she'll be thankful? Maybe she'll be afraid. You could use an ally though. You grab your drink, take a sip, and wait.

Well yeah, one bad roll probably won't kill us, compounded with a stupid decision? That cost us in Dragon a few times, and it was nothing compared to this.

This was actually pretty much on script for what I had planned out, though you didn't sit at the table first and embarrass yourself and Sammy in front of the vampire girls thanks to your high roll. Shaking things up like this and realizing you either have to abandon being a hunter or hide things especially well was as intended. If you continue to be so blatant with your schemes you'll die pretty quick. This should be obvious, but I'm saying it anyway.
