Last Episode: You came to Scylla to find some Hubris. What you found was your former guardian and his companions, fighting the People of Joy. You aided your associates by killing a couple, and Pytor’s group finished the rest.

The inside of the RV is a sight that makes you smile. It’s filled with salvage, weaponry, and all the other, familiar, comforting things that you like. Pytor and the others are cleaning and checking their weaponry. Amelia, the woman in the hazmat suit, immediately asked you about Emmy, so you told her.

“So Emily is heading back to Genesis on her own?” Amelia asks you.

You nod, as you help yourself to the contents of a can of water chestnuts. You really missed this.

Amelia lets out a sigh of relief, and shakes her head. “So I didn’t have to do anything. Wonderful.”

“Don’t act like you weren’t ordered too.” Pytor says.

“Heh.” Amelia says. “When did you figure it out?”

“From the start.” Pytor says.

“Of course you did.” Amelia says.

“Do you know what they’re talking about?” You ask Ray.

Ray shrugs.

“Alright. So, thank you for telling us about Emily.” Amelia says. “That’s a weight off of my chest at least. Did you learn anything else?”

You tell them everything about your travels. Leaving out the parts about Ruin, and Joy-In-Time. You feel that the former would just cause complications and undue stress. The latter would open a can of worms that you just don't want to deal with.

Amelia and Ray have that same glassy stare that Ruin and Emmy got when you told them about the Global Cooling. Pytor seems unmoved.

"Why does Wren care about what happened in Charybdis?" Pytor says.

You shrug. "It's her nature. She's got to understand everything. I think it's how she keeps herself from completely losing her mind, trapped as she is."

Pytor grunts. You know he can tell that you're hiding things. However, it's Pytor and you know that he's not one to pry.

"And the bear?" Pytor asks. (Musor is sleeping outside of the RV)

"Someone I picked up in Charybdis." You say.

He nods.

"What about you?" You ask. "What have you been doing?"

"Looking for you, and assaulting the People of Joy." Pytor says. "Mostly we've been stopping them from gathering corpses of these special girls."

"What are they doing with them?" You ask.

"What you saw. Measuring, cutting of pieces of their clothing. Sometimes they harvest small pieces of their bodies. Hair and nails." Pytor says. "Voice...Wren...says that they're collecting them so they can recreate their own Joy-In-Hearts."

"That might explain how the girls who jumped us got that power boost." You say.

"Perhaps." Pytor says. "Anyway, are you sure you want to cont-"

"THE WORLD IS ENDING?!" Amelia shouts out to the both of you.

"HOW?! How how HOW can you two be so CALM about this?" Ray shouts.

You and Pytor look at each other, and then give the other two a shrug.

"Everything ends." You say. "You'll both be dead before it happens, most likely."

"But our children, Genesis, all the work we've done to come back from the brink." Amelia says. She just sits, staring off into nothing. "It's not..." The words die on her lips as she knows the answer.

"I need to pray." Ray mumbles as he leaves the RV.

"Give me the radio." Amelia says. "I need...I need to talk to Command."

"You may not get a signal." Pytor says.

"Then HELP me get one!" She snap.

Pytor pats you on the shoulder. "You aren't beholden to Wren. You can come back with us, now. Think about it." Then he leaves the RV with Amelia.

You sit there.

You walk out and find ray sitting at a long abandoned picnic table. Hands clasped, and you can hear him muttering, but not loud enough to be heard through his mask.

He looks different than when you last saw him. His Acceptance Genes kicked in...or however that weird stuff works...and he seems slightly more...graceful. Less flab and body fat, and more muscle. (Of course, that's probably from Pytor pushing him like he does.)

Of course, the biggest difference is his eyes. Sharper, different color, and they're always adjusting, twitching, and analyzing.

You don't know why, but it makes him look more attractive. More...suitable. Ugh, must be a Joy-In-Heart thing. After all, the male Accepting were pretty much MADE to serve your people.

But those thoughts are silly, as Wren would say.

"If you'd like," Ray says, looking at you. "You can join me."

"In prayer?" You say.

He nods. "But...I'm sorry...can you go back to being Lupa? It's...hard to talk to you when you're..." He gestures to you. "It's...it's a lot to take in."

You've never been one for prayer, but it's clear that if you want to keep talking to Ray, you're going to have to be Lupa again.

You shift back to Lupa and brace yourself for the rush of cold that assaults you.

You sit next to Ray and let him pray. He finishes, and then he looks at you.

"So..." He sighs and drums his fingers on the table. "Pretty heavy stuff."

"You seem much calmer." You say.

"God helps me put things in perspective." He says. There's a long pause. "I'm glad you're okay."

"You said this before." You say.

"Oh. Yeah." He sighs. "So, you're looking for those bug this, right?"

"Hubris, yeah." You say.

"I can see them. Well, I know you can see them, but I can see them too." Ray says.

"That's good." You say. "That's very useful."

"What do you want, Lupa?" Ray says.

"I want to get Hubris, and get into the Peace Summit and find out what hap-" You start.

"I mean, what do you want out of life." Ray says. "You're going to be here at the end of it all. So...what do you want? Does anything make you...fulfilled?"

"Ray, you know how I feel about your Religion." You say.

"I'm not talking about that." Ray says. "Is there anything that...that makes you truly happy? Or could?"

> Well?
>>
>>43377092
Ray, I don't know. Happiness is foreign to me. The closest I got was when I lost control of my powers and turned an empowered small Joy into a Pincushion with knives, and I felt so much like my Mother I slammed it back down into the little box where I keep it under lock and key.
>>
>>43377223
I think that would cause a great dialogue but it may be less in character. Or very in character if we use him as our personal confessor and open up about all of our worries.

"The closest I got was when I lost control of my powers and turned an empowered small Joy into a Pincushion with knives, and I felt so much like my Mother I slammed it back down into the little box where I keep things like that under lock and key."

It's obvious that that was a tad more than what Ray was expecting. "I'm sorry Lupa. You deserve better."

You shrug. "It is what it is."

"Well, you're not your mother." Ray says. "People like...like her...wouldn't do what you've done. You've helped people, and you're trying to do something good. Right?"

"I hope so." You say.

"Alright." Ray says. "I think there's some of those worm-hubris things in that drainage ditch over at the other end of this playground. We can find a barrel and scoop them all up."

You nod, that sounds good. "Where can we find a barrel?"

"I'm...not completely sure." Ray says. "Aren't you supposed to be the pro-salvager?"

It's either a barrel for grease, fuel, or water. Any marking on the thing have long faded, and you don't know what the building it was behind was for.

However, it's empty, not rusted through (Though pretty rusty in general), and solid enough to serve your purposes.

You Embrace Joy as you and Ray push the barrel towards the ditch.

When you do, Ray's cheeks go bright red and he excuses himself for a minute. Apparently seeing a Joy-In-Heart transform causes biological reactions in Accepting. Nothing dramatic, but enough to be mildly embarrassing to him, if no one else.

You don't care. You just want to figure out how to get the mass of squirming Worm Hubris out from their puddle and into the barrel.

You first try putting some of the filthy water into the barrel...but the Hubris aren't interested. They apparently like their stagnant pool.

> Jump down and just start scooping. Hubris can't infect Joy-In-Hearts (Remember, Ruin was infected first, then she Accepted for the first time). It's far from the safest, but it's quick and easy.
> Hubris are attracted to Joy-In-Hearts, so maybe if you can lure them into the barrel with a show of power. Slightly less risky in some areas, and more in others.
> Hubris like fresh water better than stale water. If you can get a new water source, they'll make a bee line for it. There's probably a water fountain that has a motor that runs on Clean Energy around here. Time consuming, and if you can't get it to work you're out of luck, but fairly safe.

Okay. This isn't too hard, prop the barrel on its side, like so. Stand behind it. Then focus so a small sphere of light forms in your hands. Easy trick. Joy says that this is 101 stuff, something you should have learned WAY before you got to the Purify/Murder stuff.

Anyway, now you just hope that the Hubris notice you.

It works like a perfect charm. All the Hubris swarm up, towards you, and into the barrel. Which you then tip upwards, seal up with the lid, and voila. A barrel of hubris all ready to mess up a building of hubris.

You and Ray start hauling the barrel back to the RV and your Bike.

That's when you hear a familiar roar, and feel a heavy expression of Joy from the direction of the RV.

You and Ray set down the Hubris barrel and run.

"GET IT OFF ME! GET IT OFF ME!" A voice screams.

You round the empty play ground and you see two new semi-familiar faces.

It's Ribbons and Mirrors. Mirrors, is now wearing full regalia, a shiny reflective, ruffled dress that's covered in mirror shards and reflective fabric. She also being pinned and mauled by Musor.

Ribbons has her Ribbon-Tentacles out, and they're trying to pry Musor off of Mirrors.

"Oh SHIT! You have a FUCKING BEAR now?! What, were you UNSATISFIED by your level of homicidal ability?!" She says in horror.

You let out a whistle and Musor stops attempting to maul Mirrors.

"Keep her pinned, Musor." You say. "She does anything, bite her face off."

You snap with both your hands and summon blades into them. You point one at Ribbons, she blanches.

"So, Ribbons, tell me why you're here." You say.

"Ribbons?" She blinks. "You...you don't even know my name? I hound you across the land, shoot you, you KILL one of my dearest friends, and practical sister...and you don't even KNOW my NAME?" She puts her head in her hands for a moment.

Then she screams at you, face red, and bug eyed. "WE'RE IMPORTANT! WE HAVE POWER! WE'RE SPECIAL! WE'RE GOING TO HELP SAVE THE FUCKING WORLD! I KNOW YOUR NAME RUMPLETEASER HARREN! YOU COULD AT LEAST KNOW MY FUCKING NAME YOU BITCH!!"

"Uhh...her name is Lupa Strakel." Ray says.

"Yeah. NOW it is, but we know her TRUE name! That gives us POWER!" Ribbons says.

"Rumpleteaser?" Ray asks you.

You give him a furious 'I have blades in my hands and will slice open your jugular in an instant if you EVER say that name again' look. You have quite expressive eyes on that subject.

"No. We're here to kill him." She points at Ray. "The Zealot, the Genesis bitch, and the thug."

"Hey, I have a name too!" Ray says.

"Fuck you." Ribbons says. "You're a mistake. We all are. We shouldn't have been born...not like this."

"Oh Lord please give the patience, you too!?" Ray says. "Have you heard this bullshit?" He asks you.

"Yeah. A little." You say.

"Well just you wait. Once OLYMPUS is our, we'll awaken the Angel and fix everything! We'll live in Paradise, and you'll go poof!" She says.

"You'll go 'poof' too you know." You say.

"Uh uh...she'll open a gateway with her first and last breath in this Hell, and the Chosen will go through. Back to Paradise, then we'll make sure that this nightmare never happens." Ribbons says.

"What is she talking about? I can never make ANY sense of that nonsense." Ray says.

Ray sniggers.

"I swear I will cut something off of you, that you will miss, if you tell anyone." You snap at him. "Anyway, you were telling us about the People of Joy's plans for OLYMPUS?"

Ribbons narrows her eyes. "We will awaken the Angel, and she will open a way for the Chosen to return to the time of Paradise. At least that was the plan before you psychos started KILLING all of the true Chosen! No WONDER Melpomene keeps saying that we need to kill you."

"Who?" You ask.

You shrug. "I think, they think there's a Joy in OLYMPUS that they've made into their savior."

"Oh. Huh. Yeah...that...that makes a lot of the stuff we've seen in their bases make sense." Ray says. "Huh."

Ribbons looks at Mirrors who is still looking at Musor's maw that's dangerously close to her neck.

Ray's hand goes to his side. It's obvious that he's got a holdout pistol there. Also his eyes seem to be slightly glowing.

Ribbon's ribbons twitch and you see that Ribbons has a bunch of pistols in custom designed under-the-arm holsters.

"So...what happens now?" Ray asks. "Because I'm not about to let two people who say that they came here to kill me, leave."

"I'm not leaving four murdering villains leave either." She frowns and looks again at Musor and Mirrors. "You DO realize that you're the bad guys here, right? I know everyone thinks they're the hero, but you're stopping us from saving the world. You're dooming us all to freeze."

There's a magic girl who can control time and they want to use her to stop the apocalypse or whatever happened. Which would also kill everything here maybe. Also they're insane.

"No...that's...that's not what happened. You attacked US first!" Ribbons says.

"You lie to yourself a lot...it's honestly sad. Musor?" You say. "Dinner time."

Musor roars and Ribbons and Mirrors both scream.

Ray draws his gun and his eyes blaze with red light.

BLAM! Right through the forehead at point blank range. She goes still.

Musor crunches his jaws around her neck and twists, so that there's a loud CRACK, and he lets go with her neck at a bent angle.

Approaching footsteps, you and Ray see Pytor and Amelia arrive, guns drawn.

"It's done." Ray says.

Pytor looks at the scene. Then he looks at you, and he nods in approval. He has an actual smile of pride on his face.

You've done well.

You smile, and feel warm inside.

You search the bodies, and then dump them with the rest of the corpses. Ray says a prayer as Pytor lights the pile on fire.

You have another meal with the trio, and you discuss your next move.

"So," Pytor says. "Do you want us to come with you to Charybdis?"

You frown. With so much Hubris, both normal and mechanical, it's probably not the safest place for 'regular' humans. Also, there's the whole 'mechanical death trap' bit. You don't want to put these people in any more danger than you need to.

Then again, having three extra gun hands would be really helpful for said 'mechanical death trap.'

Finally...well...you don't have to do this. You're back in the RV. You, Ray, Amelia, and Pytor can drive back to Genesis, and live out the rest of your days just doing what you did before this insanity started.

You can go home.

"You can come up to the city limits, if you want." You say. "But you better not come any close. The place is crawling with Hubris, and I wont be able to protect you. Best I go in, get what I need, and then we can all get out of there."

Pytor nods, and that seems to be it.

Amelia...doesn't want to talk to you. She's still dealing with the 'World ending' news, the fact that you saved yourself and were not in need of rescue, and she became an implanted freak who can't experience human touch again. It's a lot.

Ray is helping you transfer some of your things from the RV to your bike. That includes carefully attaching the Hubris Barrel to your bike, so there's no way it can infect the RV.

He's been trying to work up the courage to ask if he can kiss you. He was just like this the last time, too. Nervous about talking, lots of silly nothing questions about your life, and general...well...Ray-style awkwardness.

"And, I just want you to know that I think that it's really important, now that we know that there's going to be an end to eve-umph!" He stops as you clamp your lips over his.

Ray's honestly a good kisser when he realizes what's going on.

The first time you kissed, it smelled of incense, rabbit stew, drywall dust, and copper wire.

Now, it's just sweat, and blood.

You like this smell better.

Ray's a little dumbfounded when the kiss is over. You pat him on the shoulder and he staggers back to the RV.

You get on the bike, and clip on your helmet. Musor pads up to you, huffing and chewing on a charred body part.

You start up the bike, and you slowly start to drive. Your bear lumbering after you, and behind that, the RV.

You're different from those stupid girls. They were indeed on the wrong side of this...but you aren't under the delusion that you're heroes.
