You stand outside the Pink Delight, the only connection between the victims you have discovered so far. Maybe they had favourites in this blood-whore house, maybe there's more to it than meets the eye.

You stand just across the street from the large explicit holo advertising what the Pink Delight has to offer, your friends are with you and its late at night. You have been investigating the murders of various vampires across the hive, apparently by dust ghosts, except...dust ghosts don't go inside buildings, nor should they be able to cross salt lines, your hand grips the bag of salt in your pocket reflexively. All of you are carrying some, just in case.

In the distance you can hear the sounds of the dust ghosts howling, they're getting closer.

The few people out on the streets don't seem bothered, but then they've lived in the Hive all their lives, they won't know what they're hearing.

Rainya and Dev know, and Lirael and Kae know what to expect. They all turn to you and make suggestions.

“You know how to deal with Dust Ghosts right?” says Kae “a line of salt or something?”

Rainya disagrees “If they'll go in buildings I don't think salt will stop them.”

Dev suggests caution “lets hide” he says “maybe they're after new victims, if we watch what happens, maybe we can follow them, or at least figure out why they're doing this.”
>>
Lirael wants to take a more direct approach “I bet you can beat some weak ghosts sis” she says loyally “hit them until they tell you what they're doing.”

What do you do?

>Draw a circle of salt around the group
>Head inside the Pink Delight (or another building?)

Shees new vampire powers + void aren't implemented yet, and Liraels power access needs to be changed in the Ally Powers sheet.
In case you forgot and it wasn't intentional.
>>
Devs suggestion makes the most sense “Hide” you say to the others “have your salt ready just in case, but just get out of sight, and see what they do.”

This late in the evening, there aren't many people out on the streets, and the few that are nearby are headed for the Pink Delight, so no one notices as you all head into an alleyway across the street from the bloodhouse and watch out.

Soon enough the dust ghosts arrive, looking like small whirlwinds with blurred, indistinguishable forms within them. As they get close they seem to quiet down, and they mostly seem to be travelling on rooftops, through back alleys (though fortunately not the one you're occupying) and actually seem to be avoiding people.

“Hivers” Rainya says in disgust, as no one seems to hear them approaching “are they all deaf or something?”

In the typical bystanders defence the dust ghosts do seem to be trying to be stealthy – as much as small whirlwinds can be anyway.

They all start to head around the back of the Pink Delight, for what purpose, you don't know. Leaflets in the alleyway make it clear that the girls offer more than just their blood to clients; they offer their bodies as well.

“Let's get closer” you suggest to your allies, and together you head across the road and into another alleyway, until you're peering around the corner looking at the rear entrance of the building. Around the door perhaps half a dozen dust ghosts gather, waiting for something, their normal shrieks dulled to a low moan. You don't have to wait for long.

A young girl with exotic purple-coloured hair emerges from the door. She's probably no more than a handful of years older than you, and is dressed in an outfit clearly designed to emphasise her generous physical attributes, as well as allow easy access to various places on her body where a strong blood supply rises to the surface of her skin.
>>
When she comes out the dust ghosts become agitated, and then suddenly still. You feel a strong burst of psychic energy from the girl as they do so.

“Not so loud” she cautions them “someone will hear you “listen, I don't have much time, I have more names for you, be quiet!” she insists as one of the whirlwinds starts to moan louder “listen!” she starts to list off names and addresses. You recognise at least one family name of a semi-important vampire family.

“Is she sending them out to kill people?” Rainya whispers by your ear.

What do you do?

>Confront her now
>Wait until the ghosts are gone, then confront her
>Go in the Pink Delight front entrance and ask for 'the girl with purple hair'
>Follow a ghost

Wait for the ghosts to fuck off and then wrestle control away and have them go hang out in the brothel again and make woo woo noises.

I kinda want to lecture her about how she's not nearly paranoid enough to be using psychic powers in the hive and she's going to get rektaronid by fae eventually since we're just a couple of kids and even we noticed her mischief.

“Maybe” you say to Rainya “but why?”

“They didn't give her a tip?” suggests Dev

You bite down the urge to make a joke about that and say instead “C'mon, we need to get her alone to talk to her, let's go around the front.”

“So what, are we pretending to be a rich vamps servants or something?” asks Kae, in tones that suggest that she has no intention of playing a servant.

“No” you say firmly “you all stay outside and watch, in case she runs, I'm going in alone.”

“Is that wise?” asks Rainya, as Lirael shakes her head in disagreement.

“It'll be fine” you say, even as you start to feel warm at the idea of going into a vampire feeding place “I'll just talk to her, if I get in over my head, I'll call you in, or teleport out.” Though you doubt this girl is a danger to you on her own, you're about to go into a building filled with dozens of vampires, fighting all of them could be difficult.

Soon you're heading into the Pink Delight, being greeted at reception whilst disguised as a rich-looking vampire without any insignia to point out which family you're from – common enough in a place like this.

The receptionist greets you warmly, and asks you if you have visited before.

“No” you say “A friend recommended this place to me”

“Oh right!” says the overly-perky receptionist, her eyes shining “then there are some rules” She quickly reels off a list of things you can't do to the 'donors' – at least not without paying extra and then asks “now would you like to peruse our catalogue” she offers you a datapad with pictures of the girls and boys who work here.

“Actually” you say “my friend recommended someone very particular, a purple-haired girl, I can't remember her name though...”
>>
“Oh that's Ohara” says the reception, rolling her eyes and muttering something like “figures” under her breath “Sure, I'll tell her, have a seat” she gestures at the plump chairs in the front hall and you sit, looking through the catalogue for Ohara as she types something into her workstation.

As you wait you read the entry for 'Kinsey Ohara': there's not much, just a description that says that she comes from offworld, her hair colour is natural and that she she's twice the price of the average donor here. There's also a disclaimer and an apology that she is now a 'blood-only' donor, though there's no reason given as to why.

You can easily afford her services and spring for the extra fee for a private room. Eventually the purple-haired girl appears and wanders over to you, bowing gracefully and saying in a diffident voice “If it pleases you Mistress, this way.” She leads you deeper into the Pink Delight, through a winding corridor and into a large room full of long couches and wide chairs where a number of the less private vampires are enjoying their donors in a communal room. You can see exits on the opposite wall of the room and you pause. Within you the hunger to be bitten starts to rise. Walking past dozens of feeding vampires with their partners moaning enthusiastically (real or fake, you can't tell) is going to test you a little.

Oblivious to your hesitation, Kinsey Ohara continues onwards.

Pretend to be one of Kulrathe's agents and blackmail her into working for "him". Say that we're going to need her to put her ghosts to work on some other targets. (This pleases Baalzamon?)

You tough it out and make your ways across the room, quashing the desire to join in the fun. Once you are in the small but expensive-looking room Kinsey Ohara puts on a bright, professional looking smile and asks “What is Mistresses pleasure? The bed, or the chair?” she gestures around the room.

“I just want to talk to you” you say “I saw you out the back with the Dust Ghosts and I was wondering how you did that.”

Kinseys eyes go wide and her breathing and heart-rate rise, with your enhanced senses you can easily see the pulse in her neck. She tries for denial.

“I don't know what you're talking about” she says, the nervousness in her voice mostly under control “I haven't been out since I got here, and I have no idea what 'Dis Ghosts'” she mispronounces the name “are? Is it some sort of drug?” she asks, her voice getting steadier and she sounds like she's reading off a leaflet “because the Pink Delight prides itself on having clean and drug-free donors, now, what is Mistresses pleasure?”

Because you seem to have no idea about how powers and all that work and its getting really irritating watching you write such utter nonsense.

A block from Kulrathe would be a problem because it might kill her. A Psyhcic Shield or something from her would be easily overcome with impossibility/Corruption. Shee is the fledgling god of mindrape, a regular psychic stands no chance.

Corruption IS absurdly powerful. And it would work just like Impossibility and gets rolled seperatly if used active. It does passively also debuff all will checks against our psychic abilities.
>>
>>43521105
I'm sure our divine Aspect that could have allowed us to literally revive the dead is not absurdly powerful.

welp, first time I can recall seeing a minus number in an extra power-points vote.

Writing result. Whilst I do, what are players views on using negative numbers in the vote? Should they be counted? or should 0 be the lowest permitted?

Related: Should insanely high numbers (i.e. 500) be discounted, and if so at what threshold?

My own views are that minimum vote is 0 (not minus) and that in regular votes 50 or so should be the max (with higher caps for very important/very high difficulty situations).

I'd like to hear players views before I rule on it though.
>>
>>43521105
We both get a buff from Corruption, and all our enemies get a debuff from Impossibility.
So all attempts to affect other peoples mind have a effective +10 bonus just alone from that.

Thats perfectly fine, I don't think the cap thing is strictly necessary, but I don't have a strong opinion on it.
I can't think of a reason for spending so much unless it actually is a important vote.
>>
>>43521158
>Whilst I do, what are players views on using negative numbers in the vote? Should they be counted?
Fuck no they shouldn't be counted. If you let them count some salty cocknose is just going to go and vote -# to cock things up. I mean, they can already do that to a lesser extent with voting 0s or voting stupidly high numbers but this makes it even easier.
>>
>>43521099
Deathblock is a generic application of Psychic Shield that she may have up to avoid being made into some vampire's slave if her past is indeed traumatic towards them, or she wants to protect someone or something in her mind.

We aren't actively using either aspect, so any capability beyond the passive boost is irrelevant.

If she would be using Psychic Shield we'd be using it reflexively just like when someone would try to block our teleport.

And the Pschic Shield Deathblock is detectable before it triggers.
>>
>>43521210
There is no reason to assume Shees corruption can't negate a self-made death block. A Kulrathe or Garrax implemented one would be dangerous because she would have no control over it, but Shee should absolutely be able to force her to turn it off once she detects it.
>>
Question about Impossibility:

Does the penalty to all rolls stack together with the penalty to defensive rolls or does it only do one or the other? Like, if someone tries to defend against us do they get a -10 or a -15?
>>

>Deathblock is a generic application of Psychic Shield
One thats detectable
>Another psychic who achieves mental contact with the character can tell that there is a deathblock in place unless there’s a deliberate attempt to hide it, in which case an opposed Psychic Sense and Psychic Shield check is required to detect it.

Which might not be the case for a King power block.

>>43521300
It's only detectable after mental contact, which doesn't really help if mental contact triggers it outright.
>>
>>43521329

>>
>>43521338
The default is that it triggers when mental contact is achieved. Detection explicitly requires mental contact be achieved.

Since by default the block triggers when mental contact is made, assuming it automatically triggers just from that would render the clause of detection largely pointless.

You back off for now, you've made her nervous and she might reveal something. But she expects that you're there to feed off her, you need to keep the conversation going without giving her reason to have you thrown out. You need to act like just another customer if she's going to pretend she had nothing to do with the dust ghosts.

But that's where reading the catalogue helps.

“I'd like a shoulder massage” you say, sitting down in the wide chair “I'm tense.”

Kinsey warily goes to stand behind you and starts rubbing your neck and shoulders, kneading with her fingers.

“Mmmm,,, yes, very good” you say “you must have been doing this for some time?”

“I've had my masseuse certificate for over a year” she says with forced politeness “Though I've had lots of hands-on experience prior to that.”

“And the other parts of your job?” you ask lightly. As you talk you reach out carefully with your telepathic abilities to try and get her to trust you. You touch her mind easily enough, but she has a hard knot of suspicion built up there: breaking it down will take time, perhaps an hour or more. You scan her mind for any psychic blocks or other hazards and find several, you don't know what they're protecting, only that they don't seem to be deathblocks – just extra shields around things she (or someone) wants hidden.

“Long enough” she dodges the question, as she keeps rubbing at your skin with her fingers. She doesn't seem to have noticed your intrusion into her thoughts, or at least isn't reacting to it.

You consider what to do next, either you've put Kinsey on edge, or she's just naturally suspicious, either way wearing away her paranoia will take time, meaning you'll either need to draw the conversation out for a long time, or bite her and work whilst she's recovering. Or you could simply try to read the information direct from her mind, but that might be detected.
>>
>>43521409
>like Charon's did
Charon's was definitly not set by Charon and extremly likely not a Psychic Shield block.

Deathblock can explicitly be used to block specific information, Charon's whatever was the closest example of what that would be like that I could think of, it doesn't really matter what it actually was.
>>
Deathblock on Mental Contact

Is possible, yes.

Mental Contact is the standard way to detect a Deathblock, so at an extreme, one could be set to trigger upon Mental Contact.

However doing so would be extremely limiting - most telepathy powers require Mental Contact, and having such a block would mean the first time someone beats your Psychic Shield you could die.

So its possible, but extreme (and also not completely proof against Corruption-enhanced powers).

Evidently Pally disagrees with it being either of those since he saw literally no reason to do both.

There is the theory that she's here because she doesn't have the strength to fight her addiction and isn't willing to replace it with drugs like Shee did, and is using it as a front to get more victims. May very well resent vampires that bite her, which is probably why she sends ghosts to murder them.
>>
>>43521994
>>43522021
And then she turns around and has her dust ghosts murder the customers later on. Just because she tolerates being fed on in order to accrue cash and targets doesn't mean she'll be friendly with us if we feed on her. She's a mission-driven serial killer with a martyr complex.

Not to mention that being strong enough to kill everyone has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.
>>
>>43522056

I'm pretty sure the family aspect doesn't get int he way of that.

>>

It does, because to be old enough to do that, we'd have already lived out our Vitoi life and become a Letum. We are clearly not a Letum.

>>43522195

Although you're supposed to be paying to bite her, you insist upon a full body massage to give you time to wear away at the stubborn lump in her mind.

The both of you keep up a meaningless conversation of small talk as you discuss recent events in the Hive, celebrity gossip, even delving into sports (a topic you know almost nothing about). It serves its purpose however, and eventually Kinsey is working away at a particularly tense calf muscle as you lay facedown on the bed, wearing only your underwear. You feel the stubbornness and paranoia fade, replaced by (still fragile) desire to trust you. Your conversation has paused and Kinsey has been working away at your leg in silence for several minutes.

The she speaks, hesitantly “So you really saw them then” she says “the ghosts?”

“I did” you say, not turning, you wait, giving her a chance to speak.

“They're from outside the Hive” she says “out in the dust, I don't know how they survived that long after their hosts died, but somehow they did. They listen to me and they do what I say but I'm not sure why, I never learned how to make a Demon you know, I just, I heard about them.”

A demon? You frown, you'll ask about that later “what are you doing with them?” you ask. Kinseys fingers on your leg stop moving.

“It's not my fault!” she insists “I didn't want to, but she made me do it.”

She who, you wonder.

“Start from the begging” you say “You're from offworld?”

Kinsey shifts as she kneels on the bed next to you, then mumbles something that sounds like “well you've already seen enough to get me in trouble I guess” then starts her story.
>>
“I was born on another world” she says “most people were psychic there, and my parents told me that being psychic made us special, they had a name for it too, but I can't remember it” Her voice is full of longing as she remembers happier times, then it changes “but the monsters attacked, Serec I think they're called, and we fled, I got separated from my parents and someone else found me” her voice turns bitter “and not a nice man either, he was a psychic too, and he did something to me, made it so I couldn't use my powers properly, but they've been slowly returning in the last year. Anyway, he ended up selling me and I wound up working here” her voice has the sound of old pain.

“Go on” you say gently.

“I started hearing them about the time my powers started coming back” she says “I started to notice that vamps mental defences were down after they'd fed, and I could read their minds, little stuff at first, then I could start convincing them that they hadn't bought any cash with them.” She sound defensive “it's not like it was stealing” she says “some girls earn big tips, I just got mine another way.”

“And you could hear the ghosts?” you ask, wondering if she started killing those who hurt her somehow.

“Yeah” she says softly “but Mistress Steel found me out – she owns the Delight, and she found out the other stuff I could do too, and she made me, she made me....oh god Mal...” she stops talking and you hear her sobbing.

You wait, you feel like you should comfort her, but doing so might risk your cover, so you just wait.

After a few minutes the sobbing subsides and she continues “I didn't want to do it” she says, her voice rough “But Mistress Steel insisted, said I had to, and I didn't want her to...to...” She takes a deep breath “anyway, I know better than to cross her, so I did it, even though I didn't know most of them, and even though Mal was really sweet and promised to get me away and-”

Ohara keeps talking, but you miss some of what she says, as you feel a powerful telepathic presence delve into Ohara's mind. She either doesn't notice, or doesn't think it worth mentioning, she just keeps talking.

“So I sent them after the others tonight” she says “and that's what you saw I guess.”

Your mind works fast, someone just read Kinseys mind, possibly the establishment owner, or someone who works for her. They'll know that she's been talking to you and they might wait until you leave, or they could have security on the way right now.

You're not going to just teleport out at the first sign of trouble you decide, but neither are you just going to leave her here.

“Mistress Steel isn't the only option” you say to Kinsey, sitting up and catching her gaze with your own “what if I could offer you a way out.”

“How do I know I'm not just going to end up your slave instead?” she counters quietly.

You think about saying you'd never do that to anyone, then you recall that Jade is on her way to see that and change your response “I'm not Steel” you say. As you try to convince Kinsey that you can help, you search with your own psychic powers. You can't get an exact fix on the origin of who just read Kinseys mind, only that they are close by – within the building, and above you by several floors, putting them on the top floor or close to it.

Its probably Mistress Steel, but you're not sure. You do have enough of a location that you could try to target them with your own telepathic abilities though.

Kinseys resolve seems to be wavering after several minutes of conversation “I'd like to get away” she admits “but I'm just...I'm not sure.” You think you get it – after living here for several years, the Delight is too familiar for her to abandon, rather the torments she knows, than new ones she might face.

You think about how to convince her to pluck up the courage to come with you, then you hear heavy footsteps outside and the door slams open. Two large thick-necked men come into the room, their arms are heavily tattooed and they are wearing black t-shirts and jeans.

“Out, now” one grunts at Kinsey “upstairs wants you.”

Kinsey goes pale. The other security thug says to you “shows over, get dressed, go, you're banned, don't bother talking to anyone.”

Both are wearing heavy stun rods at their belts, and you can see a flash of fangs as they talk. You're not sure if they're full vampires, or just dhampirs, but as the usual clients are vampires, these two clearly aren't merely human.

Kinsey hesitantly rises, the thug talking to her gets impatient and stomps forwards to grab at her.

As the first thug grabs Kinsey and drags her off the bed, stumbling as she tries to get to her feet you scramble forwards and get in his face.

“Excuse me!” you snap “I paid for her time, and how dare you just come barging in here without so much as a knock! I want you name, and I demand to see the owner! This sort of behaviour is intolerable!” You affect a snobbish, up-hive accent in line with your current persona.

You're prepared for this to go a number of ways, so when the second thug steps forward and thrusts the stun baton at you, no doubt with enough charge that even a vampire would notice it, you side-step out of the way and he misses, grunting with surprise.

Kinsey is being dragged out of the room, a fearful, resigned look on her face.

“How dare you!” you bluster at the security thug as you dodge another swing “I will have you job for this! Don't you know who I am?!” As he glares at you, yuou catch his eyes and hit him with the full force of a stare that carries with it the madness of having seen what resides in the depths of the stellar void, the awful truths of reality. The thugs face goes grey, and he flees without a word.

You storm out into the corridor and grab hold of Kinseys arm. As the thug dragging her suggests you sell your sexual favours cheaply in public, you catch his gaze too, and he flees.

“What was that?” asks Kinsey, looking at them in confusion “I didn't feel you do anything” She also didn't seem to feel her mind being read earlier though.

“Are you ok?” you ask Kinsey as she rubs her arm, you are also considering your next step, whether or not to just flee, or confront Mistress Steel now.

Then you feel a dozen minds around you start to link together, no, more, maybe twenty as throughout the Pink Delight a metaconcert forms, centred on the powerful mind above you. Damn.

You reach out to Lirael who easily accepts your mental contact, linking your minds together.

-What's going on?- your sister asks

-A mental battle maybe- you tell her -be ready for anything- You feel her determination, loyalty and affection pouring through the link.

You grab Kinsey by the hand “Hold on” you say, as space warps around you, and both of you find yourselves in what you can only think of as a fetish dungeon of some sort.

All around you are chains and restraints, objects and weapon-like devices that are designed to cause pain rather than actual damage.

Standing in the middle of it, clad in leather and holding a metal whip that sparks with electricity is a tall female vampire with an attractive face and a cruel, sneering expression. She has dark hair and in addition to the whip, both of her gloves have metal claws that gleam wetly in the dim light.

Kinsey gasps “Mistress...” she sounds scared.

“Mistress Steel” you say, not impressed “so you're the one that-”

A wave of telepathic force slams into you, you're weak, you're nothing, you want to grovel at her feet. Beside you, Kinsey falls to her knees.

You barely twitch “Really” you say in a voice betraying almost no strain “is that all you've got?”

“I'm going to enjoy breaking you!” Mistress Steel gloats, lashing the metal whip towards you. You can sense the powerful psychic energies dancing around her, it feels like she's a psychic, a true one, but she also has obvious fangs. She is the centre of a powerful metaconcert, and as the owner of this place, she could easily have reinforcements on the way.

You're not going to let this be a drawn-out fight, you'll end it in the first strike. Although the shape you present to the world at large doesn't change, underneath it your appearance warps and shifts as you manifest the Sorcerer part of your demon heritage and your wreath of green burning leaves appears on your three-faced head.

You lash out with your psychic powers, pouring everything you've got into it, as Lirael adds her strength to yours.

Together you slam into the twenty-strong metaconcert and blast through the psychic shield that protects its leader, the vampire in front of you. You feel many of the minds in the group vanish as they drop out of the metaconcert, stunned or simply terrified by your power. You shove your mind into 'Mistress Steels' with all the gentleness of a knife. In front of you the vampires body stumbles to a halt, its headlong rush towards you checked.

Now that she's under your control you can see that what she's doing is very different to your metaconcert: whereas you and Lirael cooperate, she rules with an iron fist – the other minds left, perhaps a dozen, can't leave without her permission, nor use their powers independently without her assent. Its an arrangement that grants her slightly more power than a standard one, and more control over its members, but at the risk of making her own mind the weak spot of it all.

You can feel her mind struggling futilely against your will as she raises a comlink to her mouth and says “cancel the alert, everything is under control.”

“Now” you say out loud “lets see who, and what you are” you dig deeper into her mind, sifting through her secrets like grain. What you find surprises you.
>>
Mistress Steel was a psychic from the original invasion of Appollyon, and was enslaved by one of the vampires who first came to the planet in the aftermath of the fae invasion. You see a confused mess of images of the invasion, then you see her rebelling and killing her owner after he turned her into a full vampire. You try to focus more on recent events.

Kinsey was used to control the Dust Ghosts, something that Mistress Steel thinks of as 'Personal Demons' – a sort of autonomous mass of psychic energy that the psychics used to create before the invasion. Mistress Steel could once create these but now fears to even deal with them, as they are often born from the psychic subconscious, and psychics with too much trauma can lose control of those they create.

But with Kinsey...Mistress Steel could use her to control them, and one day eventually turn them against the person she follows, but hates and wants to destroy, a club owner she saw turn into a vast black dragon-like monster who calls himself 'Garrax'.

You feel the hellish fires of the King of Hell scour your body and soul, you can shape this gift into 1 of four things.

Form of the King of Hell
Skalogen Form rises 2 ranks, and you can pick an additional form

To the Gates of Hell
Some call this power “Mob-Gathering Performance”. By talking to a group of people you convince them to follow you perform a task as you direct.
As a normal action make a persuasion check and spend 10 psychic energy points. You compare your persuasion check result to the Will check of the 10 closest people who can see and hear you. If your persuasion check exceeds their Will check by 10 or more then they follow you as a group until you stop leading or commanding them, or are not present for longer than 10 minutes, after this time they abandon whatever task you set for them and go back to what they were doing before. You can command larger groups by increasing the cost by 3 psychic energy points and taking a -2 penalty to the persuasion check per every 10 people affected over 10. Those affected see you as their rightful leader and will follow your commands to the exclusion of other commands, even taking serious risks at your orders. This is a telepathy effect.

Right of Punishment
Nothing stops the king from punishing his subjects, and in these times everyone is a subject of the King of Hell. Whenever you make a melee attack you may spend 5 points of psychic energy to ignore any damage reduction the target has, for that attack only. This does not bypass powers that allow the target to ignore damage, only those that reduce damage by a set (or variable) amount.
>>
Absolute Loyalty
Whenever anyone openly declares their loyalty or love towards you, you may spend 3 points of psychic energy to have a visible symbol appear on their skin, this symbol can have whatever design you want but is always the same for anyone you use it on, being personal to you. If anyone bearing your symbol is targeted by any skill, power or other affect that would make them betray you (knowingly or otherwise) then the DC of any rolls is increased by twice your Willpower modifier. The target of this power cannot be mind-controlled into pledging their loyalty, though they can be tricked, threatened etc. The targets of this talent need to be sincere when they pledge their loyalty in order to be affected. If the target of this power knowingly and willingly betrays you without any coercion, then the symbol bursts into flame and disappears: you know the identity of anyone this happens to.

You direct Kinsey to the door, where she nervously keeps a lookout, as you change Mistress Steels mind to be more suitable.
On its own your telepathic tampering is skilled, but might be detected or reversed, but you are becoming the sort of deity that leaves a permanent mark on those you touch.

When you're done, Mistress Steels personality, her goals and motivations, have all shifted slightly. She's still the same person with the same memories and personalities, but she now sees you as her superior, and unlike her feelings towards her vampire master or Garrax, she sees you as someone to be respected and obeyed, not an enemy to be feared, and ultimately destroyed.

When you're done, your mind still linked with Liraels, you wonder how you're going to square this with Garrax, or if you're even going to tell him.

And we had already a agreement with Ms.Carter, I'd argue Shee would have strong IC rrason to hold her end of the agreement ASAP
>>
>>43526203
We already made a deal with her though, it seems odd to me Shee wouldn't make good at it when she can.
>>
>>43526203

Does that mean we would never get AL offered again?

The longer it takes to promote her, the more she will work for it.

So could anyone with an above average intelligence score. Hell, the vampire we just converted would probably do her job better.
>>
>>43526250
>The longer it takes to promote her, the more she will work for it.
That makes no sense, we alread made a deal exactly how much she will work for it.

>>43526251
>So could anyone with an above average intelligence score.
Yeah becaus managing a business is super easy without the experience.
You are beyond retarded.
>>

It's a T3 gift that may or may not appear on subsequent votes. The vote to turn someone into a demon will always be there on any tier of voting.
>>
>>43526274
>It's a T3 gift
We get those constantly now. And its up to the King if he offers it or not, why would he not just offer it again?
That is a complete non-argument.
>>
>>43526271
>Yeah becaus managing a business is super easy without the experience.
Good thing the vampire that comes with her own power suite *has* experience. I don't doubt it would be hard to find an expert on business management in short order and convert them if Ms. Carter bit it.
>>
>>43526251
>You mean the piddly stipend we don't actually spend on anything.
Only because no one has voted to go shopping and it's not like it won't build up. She can manage investing it too.

>So could anyone with an above average intelligence score. Hell, the vampire we just converted would probably do her job better.

Given How smoothly it runs, and how she's been doing it for years? Unlikely.
>>
>>43526274
>The vote to turn someone into a demon will always be there on any tier of voting.
Yeah on others where something actually useful might get offered. We won't get any DC15 or whatever options anymore, because we don't get Favour for trifles anymore overall.
This was the best chance.
>>
>>43526230
>>43526236
>>43526249
There will be other opportunities to get Absolute Loyalty in the future.

However the opportunity to give the gift to Ms Carter will be an option every time.

I accept that Shee said she's give it to her, and I see her as still planning on doing so, but depending upon which gifts she has available.

In other words, Shee plans to promote Ms Carter at some point, but if a Gift is offered that can benefit her or her close friends, I believe she'd pick that and promote Ms Carter later, perhaps when weaker Gifts are offered.
>>
>>43526301
>Good thing the vampire that comes with her own power suite *has* experience.
You mean the one that already has a business to manage and would never get the respect from the staff Ms Carter gets and would require initiating her into the Church of the King?

I don't know, why is Baalz such a dickbitch with dragon form?
>>

It's not just that, she's run the criminal bits, the transporting bits, the worship of the five. It takes a VERY specific skill set and such people are not easily replaced.

>>43526311
But you yourself said we'll get no "cheap" gifts anymore.
>>
Will the frequent early morning threads of last cycle ever happen again? Those were fun.
>>
>>43526311
>perhaps when weaker Gifts are offered
Weaker gifts could easily be more useful and Shee already has ways to protect close friends mentally. Not to mention it requires her to brand her family with marks, I'd think she'd be at least slightly uncomfortable about asserting ownership like that.

But whatever, its over.
>>
>>43526375
>Shee already has ways to protect close friends mentally
Refresh my memory and explain why stacking such things isn't useful.
>>
>>43526301
>Good thing the vampire that comes with her own power suite *has* experience.
She doesn't. She has no experience running a diner, dealing with the Followers of the Five. She has not the respect from the staff, she has no idea about the criminal dealings and a completly different business to run already.
>>
>>43526351
>But you yourself said we'll get no "cheap" gifts anymore.

True, but some Gifts on the higher tiers may be gifts that anons might not like for a variety of reasons such as limited scope, not meshing with Shees character etc.

Some of the Kings Gifts for example involve punishing one underling commissar-style to bolster others - which Shee is unlikely to do but other Reunited certainly would.

>>43526363

Because anyone who can overcome one of them can easily overcome both. 28 DC+ is absolutely nothing to a Reunited. Its practically worthless.
>>
>>43526421
We already made a deal. That is not a option unless you fancy losing King favour.

>>43526400
Think for a moment if Shee would be bothered by a DC of 28. And then you realise why it does nothing.
>>
>>43526456

Honestly, I'd prefer it over empowering Ms. Carter at this point.
>>
>>43526416
>True, but some Gifts on the higher tiers may be gifts that anons might not like for a variety of reasons such as limited scope, not meshing with Shees character etc.
Since we get 4 gifts per choice, I see no way we would ever get a even poorer selection than this one.
>>
>>43526474
>Honestly, I'd prefer it over empowering Ms. Carter at this point.
Yes we established your literal retardation and inability to think beyond "HUR DUR SHEE SMASH" but that doesn't matter to anyone else.

I'm flattered by your faith in my creativity but I assure you, this is possible.

The chances of getting four such gifts offered are very high then?

>>43526478
I doubt it meatters given how the duplicate block evading comments were all about spiting Ms Carter for some arbitrary reason.

We only get alerted if they do it willingly we don't get one for if they get mindcontrolled, making it, again, completly worthless.
>>
>>43526542
>The chances of getting four such gifts offered are very high then?
Given that at least one or two gifts which are just ranks show up on every single vote, it could happen. It has happened.

We could also just, you know, turn her into a demon without wasting a king gift on it?
>>
>>43526547
Only happens for those that leave us on their own will.
If it would warn against tampering it would be decent, but it doesn't.
Also there was another gift that did exactly that and better in Ichors giftset.
So we got a gift now that does nothing even if we ever think of getting around to branding everyone.
>>
>>43526542
>The chances of getting four such gifts offered are very high then?

If by this do you mean 'four gifts that are very out of character for Shee at once' I'd say no, not very likely.

However this quest has clearly shown that what I think of as a good, useful and/or approriate Gift, is not always seen as the same by players. Different tastes, opinion etc.
>>
>>43526590
>We could also just, you know, turn her into a demon without wasting a king gift on it?
Not a thing we can do.

And we just wasted a King gift anyway.
Literally the only reason to pick loyalty was to waste away a power just so we don't elevate Ms Carter because reasons, despite the fact that there is no downside to it and we would get a loyal powerful servant.
In exchange we get a gift that does nothing, even assuming we ever use it. Which is unlikely.
>>
I'm looking forward to seeing Devs and Rainyas reaction to getting branded.
Thats gonna be fantastic.
>>
>>43526576
>>43526597
Oh damn my bad. Then I guess it's relegated to some niche uses for ensuring alliances don't turn into backstabbing sessions. If we can get it on Kulrathe/Garrax/Breaker then that would probably be good. Or even just seeing how Garrax reacts to the offer of branding to strengthen alliance could go a ways towards turning the others against him. Or we could try to make our design look vaguely oceany and lie about what it actually does, saying it's an Ichor thing, but I doubt that'd work. I dunno. We can squeeze some use out of it but it'll be more work than it's worth most likely.

Intimidating some mooks into service and using it on them would probably be something if we ever need a group of mooks with betrayal detectors. I dunno. Something might but probably won't come up eventually with that.

They need to profess loyalty, it doesn'T work for ensuring agreements.

>>43526730
>Intimidating some mooks into service and using it on them would probably be something if we ever need a group of mooks with betrayal detectors
Why would we waste 23 psychic energy on that if we are already so good at mindcontrol there is no way for them to betray us anyway?
Also doesn't work, again it needs to be genuine loyalty.
>>
>>43526784
You can explicitly trick or threaten people into it.
>>
>>43526784
>23 psychic energy
Typo, meant 3. or rather 3x(however many mooks).
>>
>>43526784

Loyalty to us and our alliance seems like it would work.

>Also doesn't work, again it needs to be genuine loyalty.
No, it just can't be mind control.
>>
>>43526801
>You can explicitly trick or threaten people into it.
I misread it yes.
That just makes it wors ethough because beforehand I thought you could at least use it to check for loyalty, now you only get informed when the damage is already done.
Which makes it even more useless than it already is.
>>
>>43526824
>Whenever anyone openly declares their loyalty or love towards you
Only towards us works.
And if they do that, they lose the competition because we subjugated them.
Or they don't becausr they don't mean it in which case it doesn't matter to begin with. Even assuming we ever get them to profess sucha thing.
I have no idea why you think that would ever happen without liberal amounts of mindrape from our side that make betrayal impossible anyway.
>>
>>43526867
It would be amazing if we managed to trick Garrax into disqualifying himself with some clever wording and trickery though, wouldn't it?
>>
>>43526824
>Loyalty to us and our alliance seems like it would work.
Nope.
The only way to use it would be maybe after defeating them, but then there are better gifts to punish people for betryaing you.
Like the gift thats specifically for punishing people for turning against you.

The gift does nothing of any value, and the niche uses you could maybe in extremly fringe cases use it for, there are already gifts that do that and do it better.
>>
>>43526688
It's Kae who's going to hate us for it but it might give us a way to block her father (not as it is but it's a starting point)

>>43526914
>might give us a way to block her father (not as it is but it's a starting point)
We can already do that.
>>
>>43526914
>(not as it is but it's a starting point)
We already have starting point, and there are multiple gifts we have that are a far better starting point if we assume liberal advancement into whatever we want.
Like Nurture the Lost Soul. Just get a advancement removing the clause that makes Segmented Souls eligible targets. Done.
>>
>>43526867
It's a shitty power but it does have a legitimate niche use in situations where we're forced to deal with sneaky fucks who we strongly suspect will try betrayal and we want to have a heads up when it happens since outright mindfucking isn't an option but getting them to declare loyalty is for some reason. That's all I've been saying and you don't have to pretend it's worse than it is just because you don't like it.
>>
>>43526978
>and we want to have a heads up when it happens since outright mindfucking isn't an option but getting them to declare loyalty is for some reason
Making up a hypothetical scenario nthat will never come up and would even if it would come up be better solved by a different King power is not a argument.
I'm not making it worse than it is, there is no worse than being completly useless.
Which it is.

Its not even useless in the Wiashcrafting sense of being so irrelevant we will never bother using it, even when we would want to use it its strictly inferior to other options we could use instead.
>>
>>43526978
>but it does have a legitimate niche use in situations where we're forced to deal with sneaky fucks who we strongly suspect will try betrayal and we want to have a heads up when it happens since outright mindfucking isn't an option but getting them to declare loyalty is for some reason

It's a mostly-free +28 against mental influence for all of our minions. All.

>>43527060
+28 is shit against what we're going to be facing. It's NOTHING to a Letum, Faerie lord or Reunited. Shee could blow past it with ease.
>>
>>43527060
>It's a mostly-free +28 against mental influence for all of our minions. All.
Which don't matter because anyone who would be a threat in that regard punches through 28 with trivial ease.

Not to mention it requires us to actually manually put a mark on all of our minions, which is not gonna happen because its a huge hasle and the factr that there are people who don't understand why Ms Carter is a relevant NPC should tell you many anons here aren't very good at this thinking thing.
>>
>>43527026
>>43527051
It's the situation that happens every time we deal with a Reunited and it doesn't immediately turn into a deathmatch.

And before you say "no, you can't have a reunited pledge loyalty because it's the same thing as losing", no. There are varying levels of loyalty. Just like the alliance thing didn't insta lose us they can do this.
>>
>>43527100
All of whom are going to have armies with lower ranks. WE fight those, but our eventual army could use some mental protections against their minions.
>>
>>43527060
Look at the charsheet of say Lirael and Shee. Or look at the Dominate vampire power.
+28 isn't even a speedbump to anyone we would actually have to fear using mindcontrol against our family and friends.

>>43527111
>It's the situation that happens every time we deal with a Reunited and it doesn't immediately turn into a deathmatch.
Yeah those are all instantly willing to swear loyalty to us.
>>
>>43527118
Most of their minions are either strong enough to go past it, or incapable of mental powers at all. It pretty damn useless and our friends won't like being marked for such a negligible benefit.
>>
>>43527111
>And before you say "no, you can't have a reunited pledge loyalty because it's the same thing as losing", no. There are varying levels of loyalty. Just like the alliance thing didn't insta lose us they can do this.
You are coimpletly wrong. The Alliance didn't imply any level of subjugation beneath anyone. It was among equals so nothing happened.
Swearing Loyalty to a person is compeltly different.

>It's the situation that happens every time we deal with a Reunited and it doesn't immediately turn into a deathmatch.
Pretty sure Breaker also wouldn't swear loyalty to Shee.
>>
>>43527118
>but our eventual army could use some mental protections against their minions
We don't have a army nor will we likely ever have one.
If we want to protect our family against mindpowers, there is a Ichor power for that.
>>
>>43527142
>Look at the charsheet of say Lirael and Shee.
Oh, you mean the vampire belonging to an extremely rare and powerful bloodline who is now part of an even more rare and powerful bloodline and the reality warping psionic goddess?

>Or look at the Dominate vampire power.
The highest level of Command that a Vitoi can access is a whopping *2 whole points* higher than 28. How brutal. The highest level we can even see is only 8 points of difference, which is a hell of a lot better than fighting against a +36 alone.

>+28 isn't even a speedbump to anyone we would actually have to fear using mindcontrol against our family and friends.
It is contributing by a significant degree and isn't mutually exclusive with any other effect that would bolster mental defenses, such as psychic shield.

>>43527199
>there is a Ichor power for that.
It has been a while, which one was that and why is stacking not relevant?
>>
>>43527164
There are different levels of loyalty. Swearing loyalty insofar as not sabotaging or attacking someone is not the same as total subjugation. Declaring it as a mutual oath of loyalty between reunited doesn't place one above the other and still allows for the mark to be placed.
>>
>>43527280
>Oh, you mean the vampire belonging to an extremely rare and powerful bloodline who is now part of an even more rare and powerful bloodline and the reality warping psionic goddess?
Command is a common vampire power, the fuck are you talking about?

>>43527280
>The highest level of Command that a Vitoi can access is a whopping *2 whole points* higher than 28. How brutal.
You realise that means a mere Vitoi can already punch through that protection with trivial ease?
Thats not a argument in your favour.

>>43527280
>It is contributing by a significant degree
Its not. You just showed yourself its trivially irrelevant to the point a Vitoi, the weakest kind of mind-influencer we could expect can punch through it.

>>43527308
>. Swearing loyalty insofar as not sabotaging or attacking someone
Thats not loyalty. Loyalty means you accept someone as your superior, thats what the word means.

>>43527308
>Declaring it as a mutual oath of loyalty between reunited doesn't place one above the other and still allows for the mark to be placed.
"A mutual oath of loyalty" is a.) not a thing, and .) if it were a thing swearing it with any reunited would fuck us way harder because there are actually good King gifts to punish people for breaking loyalty and oaths which they could then place on us.
>>
>>43527280
because if our friends get compromised or captured a 28 will matter not at all with the foes we fight. Since most of them could easily burn a lot of PE, vitae or arcane energy to punch through. and these are mid level threats, not including Faerie lords, reunited demi-gods, or vampires older some hives.
>>
I am harvesting complaints for power expansion ideas, just so everyone knows.
>>
>>43527280
>It is contributing by a significant degree
It doesn't. When it comes to protecting our friends from ental influence the only protection that matters is not letting them be mentally attacked in the first place or a power that lets us intervene into their mind reflexively.

A power that gives a bonus that doesn't matter and only if we ever bother to think of placing a mark on that person, if that person allows us to do so, is worthless to us.
>>
>>43527354
>Command is a common vampire power, the fuck are you talking about?
Command is, but being able to do all the things Lirael can with it is not.

>You realise that means a mere Vitoi can already punch through that protection with trivial ease?
>Loses 95% of their modifier even if they've invested as heavily as possible into Command
>Trivial

>You just showed yourself its trivially irrelevant to the point a Vitoi, the weakest kind of mind-influencer we could expect can punch through it.
Which is inferior to weakening every attempt as psychic influence and making it so even a flat mortal with no psychic protections has good odds of resisting a Vitoi that's invested *as heavily as possible* into mental alteration is useless, right?

>there are actually good King gifts to punish people for breaking loyalty and oaths which they could then place on us.
Name a few.
>>
>>43527280
>It has been a while, which one was that and why is stacking not relevant?
>Mother Knows Best
Set rules/commandments that members of your clan find it hard to disobey. The rules can be changed and amended. Also makes your clan very resistant to mind-control and similar effects that would make them go against these rules.
>>
>>43527446
>resisting a Vitoi that's invested *as heavily as possible*
Considering Vitois are basically a non-issue as threats go, yeah.
If we talk about making precautions against mental influence we sure as hell won't benchmark at maybe resisting a Vitioi.
Then we might as well not bother.

>>43527446
>Name a few.
We had Marks offered before. Look it up if you are to new to have been around for it.
>>
>>43527446
>and making it so even a flat mortal with no psychic protections has good odds of resisting a Vitoi that's invested *as heavily as possible* into mental alteration is useless, right?
We aren't concerned with Vitoi influencing our friends. We are concerned with fae lords, Reunited and elder vampires.

>>43527446
>Command is, but being able to do all the things Lirael can with it is not.
It is actually. Lirael has no special abilities in regard to Command.
