How'd the househunting go?

Speaking of houses, didn't we bring up the idea of a combat maid group for our holdings?
I know we considered getting a security staff because of wandering monsters at our island manor.

Its only been like 2 years, and raising a real shadow is more than leveling, its more mental and discipline than anything else. It will take a few years still

Alright then.

***

Once we are back inside the rockit ship, Dawn heads to the kitchen in search of a mango, while everyone else relaxes in the "living room" for now.

Of course, there wouldnt be such a thing on a normal ship, but this one has been especially equipped and designed to act as a moving embassy, and therefore there are plenty of lunges and meeting rooms.

The one we are using right now looks like a comfortable manor's lounge, with large and comfortable couches and lovdseats around a low center table.

The table is made from heven's crystal and exotic woods... well, they're exotic to us, but they would be local woods for Okaba, right? The crystal is quite thick and beautifully engraved on its underside, with low-level reinforcing spells to make it as solid as a thick wooden table.

This is a high class product.. maybe we could buy a few to give as gifts? anyway, Okaba sits in one of the couches, and has a little bit of trouble keeping Aura off his lap.

He gives up in the end, though, and the blue succubus happily leans against his chest without bothering him as he talks with us.

"Hey, Eldric, can we sit like that, too?" -says Lyann softly as we sit together in a couch side by side

"Ah, Cedric, me too?" -Mako says while trying to squeeze in next to Lyann
"Wait, Mako, there's not enough room!" -Lyann lets out while trying to resist the princess' push
"But..."

Well, in the end, we somehow manage to accomodate Mako and Lyann, albeit Honoria is looking at us with cold eyes now for some reason.

"Cedric's lap is everyone's" -Mako declares as she clings to us
"Fuuu... " -Lyann looks somewhat angry as she tries to cling in as well.

I get the feeling we triggered a bad flag...

"This is your fault, see?" -says Okaba
"Hmmmrrr?" -Aura is just happily cuddling with him

"Ah, can you explain some more about the situation in Lapsiona?" -says Asmund while preemptively standing up from his seat
"Yes, of course. You see, traditionally, in most countries, land is managed by the king, and the nobles administrate it, but in Lapsiona, land is a good which can be bought and sold, and that lead to some nobles slowly buying land over generations to the point where they have enough resources and land to, as a group, rival the royal family." -he may have chided Aura, but without him noticing, he still started caressing her back as he talks- "On the surface, it was to keep the royal family from simply taking the land from them, but they eventually realized that they actually had quite a bit of power."
"I can see how that snowballed" -says Asmund as he stands behind an empty couch

Aritsu is giving us a look... ah, I'm sorry, my lap is not big enough for three...

Right, obviously my bad

"So, which faction is stronger right now?" -asks Asmund
"The royal family is no longer selling land, and managed to pass a decree stating that land purchases would have to be approved by them, which as you can imagine has greatly slowed down the land grabbing by the wealthy nobles, and made it quite diffficult for even regular people to own land. It caused countless minor problems."
"But not so many that there would be a civil war, right?"
"That is correct. At least right now, they are well balanced against each other. Going to one will hurt us with the other, of course."
"Ah, aren't politics fun?" -says Asmund with a sigh- "But we don't have the luxury of stroking their egos about this."
"Well, the [ERROR]s are a common threat, won't that be enough?" -Honoria asks while sitting comfortably on a wide couch
"Monster attacks are not exactly rare. Even outbreaks. We need to convince them of how serious the situation is, somehow." -Says Eldric after sitting both girls next to him.

Dawn comes back with a peeled and sliced mango on a small plate, and sits down on the chair Asmund is reclining against.

"Ah, the king has control of the official army, but each noble has his own forces to defend their provinces with. During war, they are usually sent to help against... well, us. But they don't have a unified army as such." -says Okaba
"How come you haven't beaten these guys yet?" -Asmund asks while stealing a mango slice from Dawn
"The prestige from fighting us is a status symbol for them, so they have no problem in joining up against us."
"My, aren't you hated?" -says Asmund with a smile

"Your highness Aritsu, do you have any ideas?"
"Uhmm? ah! ...we could make it so that joining us is a privilege rather than an obligation? show the benefits that the faction aligning with us would get, such as trade and technology, rather than try to inspire them to sacrifice their lives and property to fight the [ERROR]s? the capital is actually near the border, with just one other city inbetween, right? shouldn't we approach the king first?" -she says after thinking about it for a second
"Well, you do catch more flies with honey" -says Honoria

"Alright, then we should go with trade benefits and let them hear about the [ERROR]s from the merchants?" -asks Lyann as she finally settles down next to us
"It could also be something like 'oh we came to talk business, but just so you know....' you know?"

"Asmund, if you want mango, I can peel one for you!" -says Dawn as she tries to keep her brother from stealing hers
"No, yours is always better" -he says

Ah, he's the type that likes to tease his little sister.

"You know, we could use tomorrow morning to [Treestride] back to our countries for a few hours and stock up on goods to show and gift." -says Asmund to us

"Those are the sacred immort- *cough* I mean, it has to be a national product" -says the other
"The peaches are no good?"
"It has to be something our people crafts."

>Actually, local fruits and vegetables would probably be alright, en masse

"I happen to be an expert on this sibject..." -we start explaining, but...
"Silk, exotic materials, high class dineware and magical items are the empire's main exports. I have seen enough documents to be rather sure of it." -says Aritsu
"Actually, they COULD export food. Their foodgeons and farms are numerous and efficient enough for it, but speed of travel had always been an issue in the past. Soon, they'll have their own fleet of rockitships, however, and that will change." -adds Lyann
"..." -we wanted to say all that. Tonight, we'll have to teach them not to one up us

"Then, some of my home made peach jam?" -asks Mako again.

Ah, I am sure that anything hand made by this lovable little princess would be delicious, but I want to hog it to myself. Plus, it really seems unlikely that it could count as a national product, right?

"No, that is no good either." -we say emphatically
"No?"
"No, Mako's peach jam is mine"
"It is?"
"It is"
"Alright" -she says with a smile

Safe!

From Eopolis... I guess Alard can take care of that end. Should we get something from Albion? Soap and baking soda would be enough, right?
We could have Lyann sing and dance for the court, and say we also export culture.. no, that's also not good. Lyann's everything is ours and only ours, too!

Silk is from the empire, though, and maybe Eopolis if that spider farm takes off, not an Albion specialty

Alright, so soap, baking soda, and such. We should probably check the local alchemical stores and see what they have around here

Uhmm... it seems like the one who will benefit the most from this is us and our own business, but this should also be very good for the orphanage, right?

What were Albion's specialties before we came along? the university... mages... scrolls! right, we could export scrolls, but those are all hand made so it would be a luxury product

"Asmund, please tell me you are exporting something other than undead workers"
"Actually, we keep those for ourselves. They are after all made from our valuable citizens and it is a matter of pride and pragmatism. Everyone can help the nation in death, even if they were the most nameless person in life. We are currently exporting lots of simple domestic appliances, you know?"

Ah, right, the bug-catcher spider automatons and such... those should be rather popular here, right?

"Cousin?"
"Food, materials, muysical instruments, clothes... I am sure there must be more, but that is what pops to mind." -says Alard
"I assume Opal will continue to export ores and metalworks?"
"Of course" -answers Honoria proudly

"...you know, we should get around to Yellowleaves and get Sinoe and Lazard installe in the throne..."
"We still... actually, I am still two years under the legal age of consent on Yellowleaves." -says Sinoe

"Wait, how old are you? is it alright to ask?"
"Seventeen. The age of adulthood is eighteen"
"I thought elves lived for hundreds of years."
"We do, but we age at the same speed as most races until our early 20's or late teens. then slow down a lot."
"I see..."

So... Aritsu is actually under age, according to her customes? that could be bad... wait, she's older than us, so, is it okay?

Yeah... its probably alright. From her point of view, she's the one cradle robbing, I guess?

Wait, what about us marrying with Aritsu?
We look at the elven princess with a questioning look

"Ah, I do not mind obeying local custom and laws" -she says

Right, she guessed what we were thinking about.

"According to local custom and laws, you are cradle robbing, you know?" -says Dawn with a smile

She couldn't help but to say it, could she? this bubblegum-colored succubus loves pranking people, after all.

"T-the president is special!" -she says, bright red to the tip of her ears

She looks cute when she's embarrased. We haven't really gotten many full body blushes out of her, what a shame.

Okaba clears his throat

"Going back to the main topic, with our countries being next to each other, we share most of our culture and techniques, so we don't really have much they want or need, and the same is true about them."
"Peace is very valuable." -says Mako, seriously

This is the kind of thing we love Mako for... and she's right.

Actually, with the rockitships, we will be able to explore lands beyond the four known continents, right? soon, we may find new lands elsewhere! ...that is a topic for another day.

"...yes"
"I see" -the black haired beauty nods nods

Wait, that was it? are you okay with it?

"Eldric is very nice, isn't he?" -she says with a smile

Ah, she has a huge heart that doesn't knows of jealousy... but, somehow, I sort of wanted to see her show a little bit of jealousy, at least?

...I'm not a maiden! I shouldn't be sad about it! right, right, this is a good thing.

"Alright, then most of us will [Treestride] home tomorrow and secure some products to show as a sample for trade." -says Honoria
"Sounds about right" -nods Asmund
"Ah! I want to wrap the products! I'm good at wrapping!" -Dawn says with great enthusiasm
"No" -says everyone
"What!? why not!?"
"Just no" -says everyone again
"Uhhh..."

With that, we decide to call it a night for today, and everyone goes to their rooms.

Of course, we check on the girls before going to bed. This means Zoe, Stella and Portia...

...and they're sleeping in a pile on the ground, entangled with the harpies, in a mess of hair, legs, arms, and honey. Why honey? how did they got so much? why do they smell like fruit? their clothes are a mess, and there's honey handprints on the walls and honey footprints on the roof!
