"My lord, there's a call for you on the holocom! It's coming in from Zyr'rha."

You hear from Captain Kolbrun at the helm of the ship.

Darth Incarnus's eyes narrow and his face becomes unreadable, or at least more so then is the norm for your Master. He wordlessly beckons you to follow him and walks further into the interior of the ship with a palpable aura of curt authority. As you follow you observe your Master in a moment of relative peace for the first time. He holds a constant air of crispness about him, the kind of feeling you would expect to receive from a man of his position, and his movements have a kind of poise about them, a dignity that never seems to be lost to him. You silently wonder if this disposition came from his office or if it came naturally to him. Your mind wanders continually as you follow, the dark metal interior of the ship hums dully at you as you peek down doors into storage units, private quarters, and rooms filled with complicated pieces and parts that make the ship run.

At last you enter what could be called the hub of the ship, a large communicator dominates the center of the room with several seats, computers, and doors leading to other sections of the ship. Your Master approaches the large console which is producing a low beeping sound indicating an incoming message and presses a button. A hologram of an athletic Twi'lek woman with vibrant red skin and complex black marking across he skin flickers to life on the machine, she looks directly at Darth Incarnus before kneeling.

"My Master."

She says.

Con't

"Rise and speak, my apprentice."

Your Master says calmly.

"Yes Master. I have encountered an issue. The Hutt was tipped off. Security is at a maximum, I wasn't even aware the stupid slug had this many guards but it's escalated beyond a single man mission, and as such I am requesting back up."

Her voice has a tinge of wounded pride to be found within, as if this was admitting defeat to her, in it's own way.

"Do you have any leads on where the tip came from?"

Darth Incarnus asks.

"No Master, I'm not even certain if he knows exactly what he is being threatened by, but he's certainly afraid. Will you be able to send Tavon?"

She asks.

"No, LORD Tavon is currently investigating an issue on Dromund Kaas, it is not as time sensitive as your own mission however it requires him to stay stationed in HQ. Will a Cypher agent be sufficient?"

He asks his eyes narrowing further as he emphasizes the title of Lord.

"I'm afraid not Master, the forces needed to be able to compensate for a lack of a second Sith would only draw attention to us."

She replies. Here eyes flicker to you and the slightest hint of a smile catches on her lips.

"Who is this?"

Zyr'rha asks.

Your mouth curls into a familiar smile as you meet her gaze and speak.

"I am our Master's new apprentice, Xanth."

She responds in a way you are rather unfamiliar with. Her smile widens and her eyes seem to twinkle at your response, while Darth Incarnus turns his gaze to you and seems to scrutinize you.

"I like him already. Can he come?"

She asks hopefully.

"He is fresh faced from the Academy, while I have no doubt he would be eager to join you he is ill equipped at the moment and does not have sufficient training to deal with an armed infiltration."

He responds coolly.

"How long would it take you to properly outfit him? The deal isn't going to happen for another few standard days. If you can armor him up and show him how to block a blaster shot or two I'm sure the rest will come naturally."

She says, her voice seems to ring with excitement and her eyes flicker to you once more.

Your Master seems to consider what she has said heavily, remaining silent for some time as he thinks.

"Aren't you always the one who says experience is the best teacher?"

Zyr'rha coo's gently.

>Landslide

You remain silent as Darth Incarnus considers the position that Zyr'rha is in.

"Very well."

Your Master says with a slight sigh before turning to you.

"We will return to Dromund Kaas, outfit you, and you shall be trained in the basics of lightsaber defense and you shall spar. With me. If, and only if, I feel that your skill is sufficient you will be sent to assist Zyr'rha on her mission. If not, an alternative solution will be found."

Zyr'rha's face splits into a wide smile and for a moment a chill runs down your spine. You nod back to your Master, unable to find the words to reply to him in that moment.

"Then it is decided. Zyr'rha, maintain surveillance of the Hutt's estate and report any dramatic changes in behavior immediately. I expect you to have a full briefing ready for Xanth should he prove capable enough to handle this mission. You will be contacted when a decision is made."

He replies.

"Yes master. Zyr'rha out."

She says, a slight inflection permeating her voice before the hologram disappears.

"Now, come. We have little time to waste."

You Master says curtly.

"She seemed... excited."

You say as you follow after your Master.

"Indeed. She can be troublesome when she gets in these moods, but she is nothing if not competent and efficient. However she is also a sadist, and if she sense weakness in you she will not be afraid to prey upon or manipulate you. I believe that little show of your... nature caught her attention. I suggest you careful consider how you act around her from this point forward."

Darth Incarnus replies as he leads you down corridors before you arrive in a spacious room which is nearly bare. Several panels which appear to be able to slide down line the walls however you are unable to determine their purpose. He turns to you, his eyes narrowed as he extends a hand outward to you.

"Now then. This will be your first formal training as my apprentice. Ordinarily I would have you go through basic drills and critique your form, however we do not have that kind of time any longer. Now, try and hit me with your lightsabers. Wield one or both, whichever is your preference."

His tone has a eerie stillness to it, his eyes sharp and focused.

For those who are interested me and Eail have basically decided to have two quests in the same 'universe', mine and another which will be the opposed Jedi Apprentice Quest. Link above if you want to check it out. As I said, for the most part the Quests will do their own things, but as they will be in the same universe the MC's will certainly meet, interact, and possibly act in opposition to one another.

Just for the love of god, run both MC's together in the same thread or something with both of you QM's writing or something.

The last thing either quest wants is their character to be jacked by the other quests goer's and do shit they would not normally do. And link the damn threads to continuations propperly. No one wants to have to hunt down threads just to read about how their character got fucked over by a crossover.

I hope you realise how much the other questers will troll the alternate quests if it comes down to a fight to the death, or any fight at all, between Xanth and Zev/Lyon. I really hope you limit the interaction to either a far distance, hearing rumours and reports of their exploits, maybe working counter to each other but never meeting. Because the moment they meet it WILL descend into a shitfest and a large portion, if not the majority, of each quest will attempt to ruin the other's decisions so they can win. If the interaction is lethal it will go horribly horribly wrong. Even as a climax.
>>

>Critical Failure

You charge forward, your lightsabers humming with hungry energy as you close the gap between yourself and your Master. After a quick breath you let out a cacophonous roar that shakes the room slightly. With a speed and grace that you find difficult to believe could be done by a mortal man Darth Incarnus side steps the shockwave and raises his palm to meet your face. Time stops for a fraction of an instant before the sound of rushing wind and the feeling of being thrown by a terrible force is all you know. You crash against the metal wall of the ship with a hard clang and fall to the ground, your sabers turning off.

"Your strength is in your wild style. You fight with the speed and fury of a berserker, yet you have slowly been refined by your training. However this is also your weakness. To the trained eye your movements are highly telegraphed due to the force your body needs to exert to move at such speeds. You will be able to overpower someone at your skill level or lower, however others will read you like a book."

Master Incarnus says simply as you begin to stand once more, your ears ringing from the impact.

"Again. Do not hold back."

>What do you do?

>"How do you recommend I fix this weakness then?"
> Circle him, then activate Force Charge, double back and strike while he's still trying to turn back to face you

Indeed. But when do -insert thing here-fags ever want things in moderation?
>>
>>43658553

I wouldn't ask his recommendation just yet. Use our intelligence.

Come at him again like a dumb brute, but pull up short, use quick, light movements with very little telegraph like force pulling legs just a little bit, circling around, etc.

The Darths poise will be his downfall. I assume he acts effeciently and with purpose at all times, by subtly pushing and pulling and redirecting him we force him to move inefficiently and be on the defensive.

Create openings this way.

Above all, Xanth is a intelligent hunter, a predator, not a wild animal. We need him to see this.

i am not very knowledgeable about Star Wars universe or combat, but I do know fighting, as I have done a lot of it.

Every time you get an opening, you pressure and don't let up. That is a natural reaction of Xanth and it is a good one. The only failing he has is in creating an opening. He usually does it with brute force, but there have been times in the quest where he shows unusual subtlety in how he does things.

I want Incarnus to see that side, the intelligent predator side in him.

To be frank, he's only seen the brute force side because hey, it works and you don't change a winning strategy when it's not necessary.

Now there is the necessity. Now there is the need.

To further expand, we use target points that with minimal effort produce maximal results.

Slight force push on the side of an ankle causing it to buckle slightly, followed by a large force push on the opposing knee.

Unless the dude is seriously well trained and knows it is coming, the natural response would be to get back into stance as fast as possible, creating inefficient movements (cause fuck, when your ankle buckles a little bit you freak out).

then when it happens move toward his blind side (behind him, circling) Causing him to pivot when trying to regain his stance and reasses the threat coming from his rear.

This will create an opening, but not a big one. And when it does, tear into it like the fist of an angry God because you'll only have one shot.

And when he gets hit, don't let up. Giving him a chance to recover would be suicide.

to be honest, reading up the forms right now Xanth would probably be practicing form VI, Niman.

>To compensate for the relaxed focus on bladework and lack of significant specialization, Niman training regimens encouraged the inclusion of Force-based attacks in combat, such as telekinetic pulls and shoves used in sync with lightsaber strikes. Also, as Niman was developed from two pre-existing martial arts fighting forms that both emphasized the use of dual-blades, it provided a firm foundation for duelists looking to study into such practices. Ultimately, Niman's success in combat was dependent on a practitioner's intuition and creativity in combat, rather than the rote responses common to the other forms.

It sounds like something he would channel naturally.

>1 Pass
>Failure

You charge forward once more and you see your Master's form tense ever so slightly, however instead of rushing him head on you stop short and begin to pepper him with quick light attacks in an attempt to get him on the defensive. His eyes widen a fraction as he sees the sudden change in pace, however it is only for a moment before he begins to bob and weave around your blade work. The occasional force push or pull on vital potions of his body to cause him to keep repositioning himself seems to work at first however Darth Incarnus quickly goes wise. In a flash of movement he brings his saber out to greet the one about to strike at him, a cold purple light crashing against your own red saber. Simultaneously his raises his free hand and a shock of force energy rips the white hilted saber from your other hand. Your blades clash as he speaks.

"Good. You assessed the issue and found a solution that caught me off guard, even if for a moment. That adaptability will serve you very well as you grow as a combatant. Now, one final time. Strike me with your lightsaber."

With that final sentence he pushes away from you, saber still out and beckons you.

>Repeat the same strategy as before, but when he falls into a rhythm throw him off balance with a Force Roar.
Look for the rhythm, try to find his biases and preferences based on his bladework and footwork. He seems to rely on for VI using 1 hand to parry and the other hand to channel the force as a supplement. keep an eye on his off-hand, he uses that to channel the force. When he makes his move with his off-hand, use your other free-hand to redirect it and throw it off target.
>>
>>43659394
I dont think repeating the same thing will work overly well, but >>43659443 has an interesting idea.

Its allready been shown that he can be caught offguard, even slightly, when we do something unexpected.

So why not go all out on it, throw the white saber at him (as a distraction), force push him as we charge, and try to land a hit simply by giving him *more* shit do deal with?

to add to that, incarnus in this duel uses the his lightsaber defensively with his main hand to parry our strikes. And his off-hand is his form of riposting. I'd say we wait til Incarnus goes for the force-push riposte and when he does, that's when we counter.

I never could tell if light sabers have an on/off switch or they're press and hold to keep it activated. Light saber throws would never work with the latter

You close your mind for a moment, take a breath, and activate Force Rage. You feel an intense rush of adrenaline wash over your body and your breathing becomes labored. Your eyes open wide and your whole body seems to be overcome with a need to act, to fight, to strike, to win. Your gaze meets your Master's and he narrows his eyes and takes an instinctual step back.

You explode into motion, your own vision blurring due to the sheet speed your body is moving at. Your Master tenses to meet you, however once again you stop short and your arms go to work with quick violent bursts of motion. Darth Incarnus parries and dodges skillfully, but beneath his calm facade you detect a glimmer of surprise.Your single blade never stops moving, searching for purchase in an opening within his guard.

Your frustration begins to build as you fail time and again to connect, when an idea comes to you. You begin circling slowly, causing your Master to turn with you to block your viscious assault. Once he is in position you free one hand from the hilt of your lightsaber and use force pull on the fallen hilt so it comes flying toward Darth Incarnus. His gaze catches the movement and his focus breaks for a moment as he searches for the target of your force usage. You bring your blade to bear against his own and your sabers clash with a violent huming and the dull thud of your free hilt hitting the back of your Master's back at the base of his neck greets you and his focus is further broken.

In a surge of power you step forward and press your blade against his, the break in concentration giving you the time you need to overpower him, even if only for a moment. He pushes back, but the suddenness of your rush gives him little time to counter you and the tip of your saber grazes his shoulder, burning away a portion of his robes and causing a bright red furious looking burn from where your saber touched him.

I was in the middle of writing my response, which made me reply hurriedly, but yes the DC's would be around nine. Your Master is a Darth that specializes in the elimination of the most dangerous threats to the Empire in the galaxy, there is very little that a fresh faced Academy Apprentice could think to throw at him that a Master Jedi would not also think of. The only reason this was an 8 was because the Rage. The sudden jump in physical prowess caught him waaaay off guard, this is a technique that is usually not taught until you are at least a Lord and even then it's pretty case by case.

The moment you connect with your Master you are hit with a shock wave of Force, many times more powerful then the previous one you were hit with and thrown backward, however you manage to maintain your grip on your lightsaber as you crash once more against the metal wall behind you, causing your head to ring loudly with the force of the impact. Your gaze quickly shifts to your Master and he gazes down at you with a look of calm, his free hand raised at where you once stood. He looks at you how one might look at a child who knows something he should not. It irritates you.

"That is enough for now. Deactivate your saber, and speak to me once you have come down from your Rage."

Your breathing quickens for a moment, but after some time it slows and the pull of the rage ebbs away from your mind. You stand slowly and deactivate your saber pulling the fallen hilt back into your free hand and holstering the two of them on your belt. You walk over to Darth Incarnus who has begun treating his burn.

"You did well. You were flexible, you learned something from every assault on me, and you ultimately succeeded. You are now the first apprentice I have even taken on who has successfully landed a blow upon me after sparring me after coming from the Academy."

While he seems sincere in his praise of you, you sense something in his tone. Not caution or concern, but something more akin to curiosity. He turns to you, his burn covered in bandage and cooling salve and his gave meets your own.

"Who taught you to use that technique?"

He asks, his voice once more regaining it's eerie calm.

>What do you say?

"Master Yval, from the Academy."

You reply after considering how directly you wanted to answer the question.

"Interesting."

Your Master replies, his mind lost in thought.

"A concern for another day. Now we commence the next portion of your initial training. These panels will dispense small droids that fire laser blasts. Initially they will only sting, however as your training progresses they will progress as well until they are as deadly as the thugs you will be facing."

Darth Incarnus explains tapping the nearest panel gingerly.

"The ability to block blaster fire is one of the most necessary skills for a Force Sensitive, most of the universe will be using them and as such if you want to survive you will need to master this skill. Most of our time spent in transit to Dromund Kaas you will be doing this training. Now, let us begin."

Your Master crosses to the entrance of the room and enters some commands in a nearby panel. A single small sphere shaped droid is dispensed from a nearby panel.

"Begin."

The quest will end here, any further and we'd be in a weird stopping point.

I'll be cleaning up shop and preping for my new quest shortly, so stick around if you're interested.

they might get along pretty well because of their background having common ground, a slave and a street rat. Xanth being the Tsukkomi to Zev's Bokke behavior. They might even share a good laugh since their taste of humor is similar (admittedly, Xanth doesn't get much of a chance to indulge in it because Sith Society).
The only time they don't get along is if Zev triggers Nivah's yandere button.
