*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*

Gunfire rings through the place you've come to know as "The Bouncy Room", muffled by the strange elasticity of its walls.

"Niiice" Abigail says. She's off in the corner getting your clothes dried using magic, while you get in some target practice... in your underpants.

"I'm definitely improving" You say. "Which is weird, considering that I'd never touched a gun a week ago"
"It's not that hard to use a gun, is it?" She asks.
"Not with this kind of accuracy" You reply.

"Maybe you could try it on some moving targets" She says, and you can feel her using magic as the paper target you were shooting at starts to blow around.

You raise your eyebrow at her, earning you a cheeky smile...

Whatever it is, it seems to be pretty much all that they're doing.

I like Abby, don't get me wrong, but it seems like all she and Saif do is fuck. I can tell you this: building a relationship on sex doesn't work well, normally, in the long run, unless the goal is to just be fuck buddies.

I dunno if it's Smiley's goal, but the relationship seems a bit one dimensional.
>>
>>43678047
No. If that happens, i'll probably write it out.

>writing

Does Mori freak right the fuck out at the sound of gun shots? They'd be kind of like thunder to a kitten, I imagine.
>>
>>43678303
Sure they have sex a lot but they do other things as well.
>>
"Are you gonna make me do it pantsless?" You ask.
"Want 'em back?" She asks.
"I do" You say.
"Gimme a second, I'm just about done" She says.
"Still?" You ask.
"I would be finished, if someone's cat wasn't distracting me" She says.

You look over, and see Moriarty lying on his back in Abigail's lap. He watches everything she does, and paws at her hands whenever they come close.

"You know you can ignore him, right?" You ask. "At this point he's just being an ass"
"Aww, but look at his little face!" She says. "He's saying 'play with me Abigail!'. How can I say no?"
"Like this" You say, walking over and putting your finger in his face. "No"

Moriarty bites your finger, causing Abigail to crack up. So you scoop him up and toss him in the air, catching him as he comes down.

"I'm surprised he's doing so well, with all the gunshots and thunderclaps" Abigail says once she's done laughing.
"You can't really hear the thunder in here, and he knows the gunshots are coming from me" You say.

"Right, I forget that he's not just a cat" She says. "What's it like having a familiar?"
"I dunno... I'd say it's like having a normal cat, from what I know about cats" You say.
"Then you aren't using him to his full potential" She says. "You should head downstairs and check out the books at some point. I think there was one on familiars somewhere..."

"Maybe later, once I'm not prancing around in my undies" You say.
"Right!" She says, as your pants begin to levitate on what appears to be an updraft. "These are done now, you can put them on"
"Thank you" You say, taking your pants from her.

I just don't get 'couple' from these two, just "These two speak in innuendos and screw from time to time".

Not to mention that the only reason that this relationship exists was because Claire was interested in him.

You sit down next to Abigail and cross your legs, putting Moriarty down in your lap so you can pet him.

"How did you end up with him, anyway?" Abigail asks.
"Oh... well, when Yui heard that my neighbour had kittens she went ballistic and demanded that we go over there and see" You say, choking up a little as you recall the events.

Abigail suddenly looks kind of uncomfortable. "I... uhh... oh... Y-you don't have to tell me if you don't-"
"No... It's alright" You say. "She was in heaven that day, I swear. You'd never think someone could pet 7 kittens at once, but somehow she managed it"

"How'd you end up with this one?" She asks.
"I gave him a head scratch once, when we first got there. After that, he wouldn't stop following me... even when I went to leave" You say. "I've never been much of a cat person, but he was just a little thing back then... and well..."
"Littler than he is now?" Abigail asks.

"Tiny" You say. "He couldn't even meow properly, so he would squawk. Less of a 'meow', more of a 'nyeh'"
"He sounded like a cartoon villain?" She asks.
"Yeah" You say. "That's why I named him Moriarty. Except he stopped squawking, and now the name only makes sense when he ambushes you from the cupboards"

"Did Yui get a cat?" She asks.
"No... she can't have pets where she lives-... couldn't have pets where she-"
"I get it" Abigail says, putting a hand on your shoulder. "I'm sure that Moriarty was enough for both of you"

"He certainly was" You say.
"Meeee" Moriarty says.

It's a gray area for me. She's grown on me, I'll admit. Her backstory has some depth, and she has genuine personality, outside of 'Love Rival'.

I just don't like how she seemed to be chosen on the sole premise of she's the hot blonde girl. That's me, though; I'm not trying to start anything.
>>

>>

I liked her from the start because her forwardness was unique
>>
"So that's how you ended up with a familiar..." She says.
"Yep. Completely by chance" You say. "I didn't even know they existed until Jessica mentioned it"

"She talked about magic with you?" Abigail asks.
"No, it was just something she said" You say. "It was actually because of that little comment that I opened up to her about my own magic"
"Is that how it happened?" She asks.

"Yeah" You say. "For the longest time I figured I was alone with this kind of power. I only discovered this whole underground mage society when I was entered into this Blood Moon thing. After that, I just had to find an in"

"It never occurred to you that you were surrounded by mages?" She asks
"I wish it had..." You say, letting out a sigh. "It certainly feels kinda shitty knowing that everyone around me had a secret second life that I wasn't allowed to be a part of..."

"Isn't it the same for you, Mr. Time Mage?" She asks. "What was stopping you from letting them all in on your secret?"
"Like I said: I thought I was alone, a weirdo, an oddity" You say. "I thought that because I was alone, that it was best to keep it a secret. Whenever I weighed them, the possible consequences always outweighed the benefits"

"Until now, when you know you aren't alone" She says.
"... yeah" You say. "I kinda wish that I'd known that earlier"
"They all had their own restrictions" She says. "The Coven's not kind to-"

"I've heard more than enough about the damn Coven..." You say. "I think it's high time they pack their bags"
Abigail looks surprised. "That's dangerous talk, Saif" She says. "Just ask Claire"
"I know... I just-"

A bell rings through the warehouse, signaling that someone's entered. You check your watch. It's 4:00, so it's probably Jessica...

Also, another side to the argument: yes, he never told anyone about his magic, but he could easily ask why no one told HIM about THEIR magic.

I mean, hell, Boss was like "Why didn't you say anything?" Yeah, he had Coven restrictions, but Saif could have asked the same damn thing.
>>
>>43679525
>>Tidy up

You know, you could probably fuck the coven over pretty good by making a magical incident occur somewhere that was mass broadcast world-wide. If an information breach occurred on a grand enough scale, it'd be impossible to mind magic it away, especially since mind magic doesn't work when people get made aware of its existence again by friends or internet. On this note, what if we made a wish that everyone on earth was now immune to mind magic. We'd piss off a whole demograph of douchebags and completely ruin any viable ability the coven had to cover up magical events.

The way I see it, if someone came out and made it apparent that magic was real but avoided doing a hostile takeover with it, you'd have 3 months of mild chaos while scientists and governments scrambled over this and how they missed it, and a whole weird period while religions decided whether these people should be hunted and lynched, praised, or considered whatever. Chances are most of the major offshoots would either hold them in high regard or indifference, but you'd get a few minor murder cults against wizards, which the government would probably crack down on.
>>

>>43679672
It's probably not possible, but damn if it wouldn't be hilarious to effectively make an entire sphere of magic absolutely worthless.
>>
>>43679753
I mean... they'd be able to manipulate animals and such, but you'd be shafted if you were like harvey and kept literally dozens of people enthralled, because suddenly they'd all no longer be effected and would beat you to death.

You know what? This Coven vs. Saif thing is a lot like The Civil War arc in the Avengers comics. Think about it: The Coven (Iron Man) keeps mages registered, and cracks down on any mages that aren't. Saif (Captain America) believes more in independence, and the ability to live without fear of retribution.
>>
>>43679906
nah that really sounds more like the coven vs beaumont backstory, saif it's really more "this coven deal fucked up my life, personally."
>>
"That's probably Jess" You say, setting Moriarty down so you can stand up. "Shirt?"

Abigail stands up and grabs your shirt. "Arms up" She says.
"Seriously?" You ask.
"Come ooooon" She says.

You roll your eyes and raise your arms. Abigail slips your shirt right down, and when your head is free of the collar she's waiting there with a quick smooch. She lingers in front of your face for a moment, so you press your forehead into hers.

She smiles, and gently slides her arms around you. "It'll all be okay" She says.
"I hope so..." You reply.

You kiss her again, and then part ways to finish cleaning up.

You've finished with the "mess" in the bouncy room, and you're onto the bullet casings left by your target practice when Jessica comes in.

"Yo" You say.
"Hey" Abigail says.
"There you guys are" She says. "The bell went off, and you didn't even check the door?"

"I figured that it was about time you showed up" You say.
"It could have been a hostile" She says.
"A hostile with a key?" You ask.
"A hostile who can magic the door open" She says.
"I could sense that" You say.
"Fine, fine" She says. "So, what have you two been up to?"

You and Abigail exchange a quick glance, and Jessica pinches the bridge of her nose.

"Please tell me you two weren't doing it in here..." She says.
"What? No... of course we weren't" You say.
"Now tell me you didn't just say that because I told you to" She says.
"I didn't just say that because you told me to" You say.

"Now tell me you-... damn it, that isn't going anywhere" She says. "If you weren't doing it, what were you doing?"

You pick up the gun you were using, which you had left on the floor. "Target practice" You say. "Before that, lunch, checking out your stuff, and sword practice"

"So you did get around to target practice!" Jessica says. "Is that yours over there?"
"Yep" You say.
"Mind if I take a look?" She asks.
"It's your warehouse" You reply.

Jessica heads over to the paper target on the far wall and examines it for a second, before shouting back. "Where'd you shoot from?" She asks.
"Red line" You say. The lines are at 3 distances: green is closest, red is farthest, yellow and blue are in the middle.
"Damn" She says, ripping the target down and walking back. "Pretty good for a newbie"

"That's what I said" Abigail says.
"You sure you weren't a soldier or something in a past life?" Jessica asks.
"Is reincarnation even a thing?" You ask.

Jessica shrugs. "There's about as much prove for as there is against" She says. "It all depends on which side of that fence you want to be on"
"Huh" You say, before you remember the letter... "Actually, can I talk to you for a second?"

You and Jessica head down to the bar.

"So, what's on your mind?" She asks.
"Well it's-"

"Holy fuck! Someone's been in my office!" Jessica shouts when she sees her door open.

She darts in and starts frantically looking around.

"Jessica, stop" You say.
"What? Why?" She asks. "I had some important fucking stuff in here!"

"Because-"
"Oh shit, it's gone!" She says, as she checks the drawer that you found Fazim's will in.
"You mean this?" You ask, after pulling out the archive from your pathways, and the letter from the archive.

Jessica turns to face you, and several emotions play across her face. After a second, she swallows. "What were you doing in there?" She asks, just barely managing to stay calm.

"Moriarty went in, because he's scared of lightning" You say. "I wasn't going to look around... but uhh..."

You toss the envelope onto the bar. It's thick, and whatever is inside makes an audible 'thunk' as it hits the wood.

"Why did you pretend you didn't know about me?" You ask.
"Think about it, by the time I had anything close to a confirmation we had already known each other for months" She says. "How would you have taken this?"

"Probably better than I'm takin' it right now" You say. "I've been right here, Jessica. A week ago, I could understand. But after you knew I was a mage, after you knew I was a champion, after you know I was Fazim's brother... each one of those makes this a little worse"

"I was planning on it..." She says. "After Monday, when you got your memories back I was working out how to approach the subject"
"And when was that going to be?" You ask.
"Does it matter now?" She asks. "The cat's out of the bag now. Yes, I was investigating you. All I've ever had to go off of was a name, and almost a face"

Jessica sighs, and sits down. "It led me here, to the place where Fazim's last mission was" She says. "I found 2 kids; you and Safi, who looked right, had the right first names, were the right age... but you weren't siblings, and neither of you knew who Fazim was"

"So why settle in?" You ask.
"I wanted to dig deeper" She says.
"So you moved in next door to me" You say. "And then you pretended it was just coincidence"
"I wanted to get to know you, to see if it was really you who that envelope was addressed to" She says.

"You couldn't have just shown it to me? Or even asked about any of this?" You ask.
"Do you remember what I asked you when we first met?" She asks.
"Not really" You say.
"I asked if you had any siblings" She says. "You told me Yui was your sister, which gave me nothing. I couldn't reveal anything when I had nothing to go on. Do you have any idea what's in that thing?"

"No" You say. But you can feel the energy humming within...

Hey now, banging your dead brother's wife is a time-honored tradition.

You crack the wax seal, and peer into the envelope. Inside you see several documents, what appears to be a deck of cards, a ball made of something hard, and a ring.

You check around the inside to see if there's anything else, and then close it.

"Not going to empty it out?" She asks.
"Later" You say. "It isn't just addressed to me. I'll do a proper opening when Safi is safe"
Jessica smiles. "Good call" She says.

You lean back on the bar, scanning the room out of boredom.

"One more question" You say.
Jessica's head pops up. "Yeah?"
"If you suspected that I might be Fazim's brother... why did you keep trying to seduce me?" You ask.

She sighs. "Can we... drop that?" She asks. "It was a stupid decision, which I made in a head state that I shouldn't have been making decisions in"

You nod. "I understand that" You say.

Behind you, you hear the familiar clinking of glass, and the pouring of liquid; most likely alcoholic.

"Alright, I answered your question honestly" She says. "I think I get to ask you one now"
"Is that how this is working?" You ask. "Because I believe I was in a position where answers were owed"

"So am I" She says.

Jessica steps around the bar, and pulls your head in to kiss you on the cheek. "Relax, sweetie. I'm not mad"
"You're not?" You ask.
"Of course not" She says. "I remember being your age. Your brother and I, we... *ahem* we found 'privacy' in stranger places"

"I could have gone my entire life without hearing that" You say.
"But now you have" She says. "And you're a better person for it"
"I disagree" You reply.

She smiles, and gives you another peck on the cheek. "Yeah, you're already a pretty good person" She says, stepping away from you and heading back behind the bar.

"Fine, I guess I'll just head back up to the bouncy room and continue the party I was having up there" You say. "I hope you don't mind the occasional scream"
Jessica chuckles. "If I minded, you'd've heard from me by now" She says. "I am well aware of how loud Abigail can be"

"Who said she'd be the one screaming?" You ask, as Jessica takes a sip and immediately starts choking on it.

When she recovers, she gives you an incredulous look. "Wha- buh... oh. You meant you'll be the one... ah, I see" She says.
"What, you thought I was inviting you?" You ask. "Come now, I don't get invited to your parties, you don't get invited to mine"

Jessica rolls her eyes, and puts a drink in front of you. "I was kidding" She says.
You pick the glass up, and swirl it. "Shame. I was going to enjoy making as much noise as possible"

"Who's making what noise now?" Abigail asks.

Abigail blushes and sits down, and Jessica gives her a glass as well.

"Why thank you" Abigail says.

The three of you talk for a while, about how the night will be going.

In 2 1/2 hours, Boss, Kyla, The Scholar, and The Smith will be arriving. Then you'll be working out a more solid plan for the next few days.

You've already got a kind of plan worked out, but you can always hammer it out a bit more tonight. Once you're done that, you decide to check your phone.

"Right, I'd forgotten about that" You say.
"What's up?" Abigail asks.

"That tube thing" You say. "I remember you being pretty curious about it"
"Right!" Abigail says, turning her attention back to Jessica. "So, what is it?"

Jessica takes a sip. "It's a Simulacra pod that I'd been working on" She says. "It's a little stripped down, now. But it used to have a full life support system, a magic based link for consciousness transfer, and a whole bunch of other bells and whistles. As it is, the tube is still pretty strong. If I ever had to blow this place, it'd probably be the only thing that might survive"

"Damn" You say. "That's the thing you mentioned when we were talking about Simulacra with Kyla, right?"
"Yep" She says. "Tech is slowly catching up to the idea, so I may end up putting it back together in a few years to see if it'll work"

"What's holding it back?" Abigail asks.
"Transfer speeds, and stability" She says. "We did a few test runs using a prototype back when I first built it, using a file that was a similar size to what we were transferring"

"And?" Abigail asks.
"It was both too slow, and too unstable. A break in the connection would ruin the whole process, and the slower speed only increased that chance"

>You were transferring a soul via the internet?

>Can we go take a closer look?

>Ask why Abigail is so interested

Hey guys, what if... what if you were to transfer a soul via carrier pigeon?

I wonder... if that pod doesn't have Jessica's essence, and is a blank slate, would we be able to use it for Safi? All we would need is a piece of her, right?

Think about it: it's a body that isn't fucked up by Harvey's mind magic.
>>
>>43682485
Problem, we'd need to do it to her here, and shes been given explicit orders by harvey to avoid us.
>>
>>43682485
Even if we couldn't transfer the soul from a distance, if we could somehow get it to her in the arena, all she'd have to do is touch it.
>>
"You were transferring a soul through the internet?" You ask.
"Yep" Jessica says.
"Is that... how is that a thing?" You ask.

Abigail looks cross all of a sudden. "You never told him about the quantification?" She asks.
"It hasn't come up yet" She says "I've barely gotten him past basic history"

"What is the quantification?" You ask.
"In 1980, a Mage named Joseph Abelli created a device that could turn magical energy into electrical signals. 5 years later, he managed to turn a soul into code in a process known as 'quantification'" Abigail says, in a tone that makes her sound like an excited teacher.

"Unfortunately" Jessica interjects. "There wasn't a hard drive large enough to contain that much data back then, and the attempt to transfer the soul back ended up killing Joseph Abelli"

"But it does now" Abigail says. "There's already... 5... 6 people with their consciousnesses stored on computers"
"All of which are currently suspended, because they aren't certain if it's all in one piece" She says. "The fear is that attempting to transfer it back could turn the brain to mush"

"But the technology is getting there" Abigail says.
"You sound awfully optimistic about all this" You say.
Abigail nods. "I plan on studying Quantification at the academy" She says.
"Think you'll get in?" Jessica asks. "I hear their acceptance rates have been pretty low"

Abigail pulls out her phone, and brings up an email.
"Well I'll be damned" Jessica says.

"Come on! I want to take another look at that machine!" Abigail says, as she heads off back towards the tube machine.

You and Jessica both shrug, and follow her.

That's all for tonight!

Next thread will be sometime this week, not sure which day yet but I hope to run sometime before the weekend hits.

As always I'll be sticking around for a bit if anyone has questions/suggestions

...If they've turned magic into electric signals... that means you could reverse it, which means you could make electronic devices that make magic, so in theory anyone could use it...
>>
>>43682667
That Safi/Simulacra question got me thinking: what's needed to make one again? How long til they form?
>>
>>43682667
Thanks for the run boss, not only is Abigail perky, hot and Aryan, she's also really really smart.
