/tg/ - Traditional Games

I tried to do this last night but I was hammered and fell asleep.

You were born underground in one of Vault Tec's famed vaults in the year 2251. Life in the vault was simple enough, and no one ever went without. At the age of 19, you were the eldest member of the vault; at least since Cassidy disappeared a year ago.

On September 2nd, 2272, your 20th birthday arrived; the age at which everyone before you seemed to disappear. The day was filled with celebration and laughter, but was undercut by an unnameable uneasiness. When the revelry had ceased, you lay in bed, drinking from a bottle of pre-war scotch to steady your mind. As the hours rolled onwards, you slowly felt yourself slip away into the warm comfort of sleep.

You awake with a start, and find yourself surrounded by pitch blackness, boxed in on all sides.

To begin, we'll need the following information:

Speech, Repair, Heavy Weapons.

Thinking person who goes around looking for things to fix and sell. Then pulls out the big weapons when talk doesn't work.

Alrighty, it's been fifteen minutes, I'm breaking the ties.

You are Nate Whitman, a white male with the skills Doctor, Science, and Big Guns. Story continues in next post.

You awake with a start, surrounded by pitch darkness. You are boxed in on all sides, with just enough room to move your arms in front of you. The only things you appear to have on your person are your Vault suit and pipboy.

What do you do?
>>
>>43734065
Light the pipboy up and look for a way out.
>>
>>43734130

Your fingers find the button with practiced ease, and your prison is bathed in green light. You find that you are surrounded on all sides by metal walls, unadorned save for a latch along the panel in front of you.
>>
>>43734244
Hm, well listen for anything and then open the latch if things sound safe.
>>
>>43734244

You sit for a moment and listen. You hear a strange, faint sound, like water falling on a shower floor. You muster up your courage and pull down on the latch and are instantly met by a sharp hiss as the front section of the metallic coffin pops open. You are met by an alien scent, something entirely unfamiliar and yet, it feels natural.

You heave the lid to the side, and are momentarily blinded by the light. As your eyes adjust and you pull yourself from your prison, you look around in astonishment. The scene before you is breathtaking: a hill before you slopes downward over several miles, a rough and nearly overgrown dirt trail winding down through towering evergreen trees. In the distance, you see a vast, dark body of water bounded by green hills even further in the distance. Behind you, a mountain grows steeply into the heavens. Your skin prickles as cold water lightly drips onto your exposed skin: rain!
>>
>>43734475
Well then see if there is a big stick around to use as a weapon and find a high point to see what is around us.

Unless we can make something out of the pod with our Science! skill.
>>
>>43734475
Shit we're going to need shelter, fire and food soon if we're out in the wilderness, also is our pipboy clicking, I feel like it should be since we're outside of all things!

A quick check inside the pod reveals that it is entirely devoid of any features: it is simply a metal box with a handle to remove the lid. Casting about, you find a sturdy branch, about as tall as your shoulders.

The only way up, it seems, is to climb the mountain at your back.

>>43734563
Surprisingly, your Pipboy's Geiger counter is silent, despite what the literature in the vault taught you!
>>
>>43734640
Who's down for some walking to find a better place then?
>>
>>43734708
Works for me, lead on Anon!
>>
>>43734708
>>43734747
Since it appears to be just the two of you, we'll carry on!

With few options available to you, you begin to descend the trail, makeshift staff in hand. After roughly forty five minutes of walking through the forest, the trees thin out enough for you to see a good distance ahead. Nestled in a clearing about five hundred meters ahead is a small wooden building and porch in a sad state of repair, next to a small lake.

The trail continues down towards it, and then joins a much larger trail.
>>
>>43734815
I guess I will vote for sneaking up to the place and see if there is anything we can use in side.
>>
>>43734815
>>43734844
This combined with maybe a rock or bottle off the ground, never know we might need to disctract something...or smash it's face in, can never tell after all!
>>
>>43734863
Good add on for sure. If it's a bottle that will be glass in someone's eyes, if we hit.
>>
>>43734844
>>43734863
You scoop up a wet, baseball sized rock from the dirt.

You creep towards the cabin with great caution. Reaching it, the smell of rotten wood and mildew is strong, and moss and lichen threaten to completely swallow it. Peering through a broken window, you see a few collapsed chairs and desks, and three intact metal lockers in one corner. The floor is strewn with plant detritus and random garbage, and a single closed door that must open out onto the porch.
>>
>>43734947
Check the back of the home and get in side.

(Here's hoping something good is in the lockers.)
>>
>>43734947
Wow this place looks like shit...Time for Looting! Check the lockers might be some good stuff in there, Also I think we found our motherbase! Just need to clear out the mildew, replace some of the beams and paneling...Yeah I bet we can really do a good fixer upper with this one!
That being said, fuck the settlement building thing, that shit is clunky as fucking hell at times, do you know how hard it is to build a roof that doesn't leak and actually looks decent/!!?!?!?!?!?

>>
>>43735001
Cool fact you can make that with some food stuffs and water. Gives you like three or six of it in the cooking pot.

>>43735017
I'm just glad to actually have a reason to rummage and loot everything, in new vegas there was a sections near that dino park that had a bunch of items to craft with, but I had not a clue what any of it was for so I left it alone for the most part.

The door is stuck shut from years of water warping, but after a good shove, it bursts open. You step inside, careful not to tread on any broken glass or other loud detritus. A bit of water drips in through a leak in the roof.

As you move towards the lockers, you stifle a yelp as an enormous cockroach crawls out from under a dirty bit of shredded curtain directly towards you!

>>43734979
I know man, it's heartbreaking because I'm completely in love with the concept, it's just so painfully underdeveloped. My screen goes almost completely flat green whenever I try to place objects and I've still spent 8 hours on building.

Don't get me wrong I came across this one little family of a single dad, two kids and they are living in a busted house with a giant hole in the roof, I wound up building them a two story shack and the stupid thing would either run out of materials or get clocked in wrong. Is it so wrong to try and repair the old buildings? Seriously your people are doing that in Santurary, there still doing it ffs.

In a flurry of panic, you try to throw your rock at it, stomp on it, beat it with your stick, and punch it at the same time. Somehow, you manage to crush the thing, but not without it tearing a hole in the leg of your vault suit. Your geiger counter clicks for a few moments before settling down again.

(from here on out, I'll roll on whatever the voted choice is).

>>43735117
With the beast dead, you take a closer look around the room. Hanging precariously from the wall is the remains of a plastic coated trail map. Most of it is illegible, but in the top lefthand corner, you can make out the words "Parks... creation... Br... lumbi..." with a small red leaf next to it.

The lockers open easily, revealing their treasure to you: a plastic first aid kit, a flannel jacket that, though a bit damp and smelly, has managed to preserve surprisingly well, a clear plastic rain poncho with hood, and a small nylon grocery bag with the faded words "Super Duper Mart."

The audio is very crackly, but you can understand most of it:
"They finally did it, fuckin' Yanks. Just heard it on the radio, but you could hear the blasts all the way up here. Never figgered they'd bother with us up North, wishful thinkin' I guess. Bert and Emily want to head towards town, see if it got hit, help people out. They're outta their fuckin' minds if you ask me, but I don't wanna be stuck out here alone. If anyone finds this, find Bert McCloud and tell him to go fuck himself."

You unfold the short blade of the knife, only slightly marred with rust, and hold it in your left hand. Poking around the rest of the trash on the ground reveals just that: garbage. Broken glass, a few plastic wrappers, and rotting wood.

Pulling the poncho over your vault suit, you set back out into the rain. Your Pipboy shows that the time is 1:32 PM. The larger trail winds west, downwards towards where you saw the ocean, or curves northeast, into the uncharted woods.

Two to one for Innawoods!

You set out north, gravel crunching uncomfortably under your soft Vault Tec shoes. You're thankful for you poncho, as the rain begins to pick up.

After a short walk of maybe four hundred meters, the path bridges a mid-sized stream. A worn, rusted trail marker stands in front of it. On closer inspection you can make out
"Ocean Point Drive, 850m <"
"Lion's Peak, 4000m >"

You decide to follow the path left after the bridge, carefully navigating its slippery boards. Ocean Point Drive sounds like it might be some sort of town, maybe when you get there someone can fill you in on what the hell is going on?

You spend the walk sharpening your walking stick, and get a good start on it. It's not going to cut a tomato but you could probably stab someone with it.

You decide to check your radio, scanning through an endless sea of fuzz. It seems hopeless, until you pick up a grainy signal. It's rough, but you can make out a female voice!

I'm going to have to call it here tonight lads, we've had a good run so far. I'll pick this back up tomorrow morning, probably around 8am PST.

The radio crackles and is funny, but you can make out a female voice:
"...spotted on the ninety-nine ... -ust south of Lonetree crossing... listeners out there, our broadcasting range... for the foreseeable future... -stown Radio, here's some... Anka for you."

The talking ends there, and is replaced by a highly grainy version of the song "Diana."

No more than three minutes after you pick up the radio signal, the trail ends ahead of you. A wide highway stretches out to your left and right, strewn with ruined cars and in places, overgrown. A pedestrian bridge over the highway has collapsed on your end, leaving an arch of twisting concrete and metal precariously hanging over the far side of the asphalt. You can spot what looks like an exit on the far side of the road a ways to the left, leading down into more forest.

The landscape here is even more striking than when you first stepped out of the pod: you appear to be on the side of a steep mountainous inlet, looking over a grey and tempestuous sea. Mountains rise up in the distance on the far side of the water, and a large island is set in between. Due to the curvature of the highway, you can't see much further than a kilometer in any direction left or right.

The rain continues to pelt your poncho, something you still find too fantastic to believe.

You approach the nearest car, a hulking sedan. The metal body is rusted, and inside the leather seats have all but degraded away, revealing bare springs beneath. A quick search turns up an old pair of sunglasses and a plastic visor in the glove box, and little else.

>>43739558
When you decide to leave the car behind, you pick your way around dirty puddles and bits of twisting, broken automobile. As you approach the road that leads down towards the water, you're sickened by the sight of three heads impaled on repurposed signposts, their bodies lying in a crumpled heap below. A rusted rectangle of steel that must have once been an exit sign is propped up against a nearby tree, crudely painted with a single word: "Raiders," an arrow pointing towards the grisly decorations.
>>
>>43739862
Well, looks like we have some civilization about. Let's skulk our way towards it, see if we can get an idea about what sort of folks they are.

It's not too bright out, the afternoon sun is fully obscured by grey, drab clouds.

>>43739907
>>43739897
You creep past the corpses, crude spear held with nervous hands. Sticking to the side of the road, you make your way through the wet dirt that has washed over it. No more than one hundred meters directly ahead of you, you see a stone wall stained by years of mildew rise just above head height on either side of the road, a heavy metal gate blocking the path itself. In old metal letters, "Ocean Point Drive" spelled out along the wall. The roof of a small building rises above the far side of the wall.

>>43740057

Call out to the settlement
>>
>>43740103
"Hello?" you cup a hand to your mouth, calling out to the silent walls. Your words echo through the trees for a moment.

Then, a helmeted head pops over the wall, followed by the barrel of a gun.

"Who are you?" it shouts, "and what do you want? We don't take kindly to raiders and freeloaders if you couldn't tell from the sign!"

Nate Whitman, white male, (former) resident of Vault 322.
Skills: Science, Medicine, and Big Guns.
Inventory: vault suit, rain poncho, flannel jacket, sunglasses, plastic visor, pocket knife, first aid kit, nylon bag, sharpened stick, unmarked can of something.

"I'm just a traveller, new to the area," you reply. "I'm trying to find my way to Vault 322, do you have any information you can give me?"

The sentinel cranes his neck forwards, peering through the window of his motorcycle helmet.

"You're one of them fancy Vault Dwellers, aren't you! Ain't seen one of you folks in shit, must be six years now.

Alright, you should come in then, get out of this damn rain. Watch yourself Vault Dweller, any wrong moves and you'll be up on the highway with those raiders you saw."

He disappears back behind the wall, only to reappear behind the gate, sliding it open and to the left. He watches you with careful eyes.

"You'll probably want to talk to Marcie about all that, she's sort of in charge here. She should be in the radio shed, it's just down aways on your left." He gestures down the street.

Now inside the wall, you see that the road is lined on either side by large, once luxurious homes. Most of them have collapsed or have been rendered otherwise uninhabitable, but you can spot a few still standing with light coming from the windows.

The radio shed is just that; a small sheet metal building, not much larger than your old living unit in the Vault. Rain runs off the tin roof in a sheet as the rain intensifies, and in the distance you hear the low rumble of thunder. You pull open the flimsy plywood door, quickly ducking inside to get out of the oppressive rain.

Inside, a comfortable yellow light from an oil lantern illuminates an array of machinery, wiring, and a wooden desk with a slew of random junk on it. A man and a woman are in the process of arguing while fiddling with this bit of equipment or that, "that's not the problem Loons, don't be an idiot, it's always been sticking out like that. The problem is with th-"
The woman cuts herself off, turning quickly to face you as you enter. She looks to be in her early thirties, with dirty blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail. She brushes her hands off on her jeans and tucks them in the pockets of her beige rain jacket. She sizes you up with blue eyes and asks "and who are you supposed to be then? Who'd you lift that suit off of?"
>>
>>43742692

"Shit, you really are a Vault Dweller, aren't you?" she raises an eyebrow in surprise and extends a hand to shake, "name's Marcie, and this little slice of heaven's called Ocean Point. I guess I'm the mayor, don't think that really means much when there's only ten other folks living here."

She offers you a cigarette, then lights one up herself. The smell of wet tobacco and tar assaults your nose as she takes a drag. She exhales a column of curling white smoke and looks at you with an air of apprehension.

"Look, I hate to ask a stranger for favours, but do you know anything about radios? There could be caps in it for you."

Marcie shrugs and gives you a nod. She turns and gives the other man, still fiddling with machinery, a gentle kick. "Outta the way Loons, mister Vault over here is gonna give it a try."

"If you say so Marce." He shoves himself to his feet and steps out of your way. "I hope you know what you're doing pal," he mutters towards you as you begin to look over the myriad bits of equipment.

"Do you know what's wrong with it?" you ask, popping off a panel to inspect the fuse box.

"No clue," she sighs, shaking her head. "One of those rad-storms rolled through here about a week ago, real nasty number. Lightning, the whole shebang. Ever since, the whole program's been on the fritz and we can't figure it out."

You rummage through Loons' meager toolbox, then get to work behind another panel, digging through bundles of burnt and melted wiring.

"What's this all for, is this some kind of radio station?"

The Asian man introduced as Loons pipes up, "it's a relay station, to boost certain radio signals from down south. My sister is with Gastown Radio in the city, the mayor sends us caps every month to keep this place going. You know, attracts more settlers and shit like that. Personally, I just help so I don't have to listen to Marcie yapping my ear off all day. No offense Marce."

With a grunt, you replace the panels and stand back up. "Looks like some of the wires got pretty fried up during the, what did you call it, rad-storm? I did some creative re-routing, but things should work better than the did before."

"Let's hope," says Marcie as she flips the power. The lights across the panels stutter for a moment, going completely out for a brief moment before flickering back to life. Things seem to stabilize, and a calm electronic buzzing fills the room. Loons jumps up in excitement.
>>
He turns on the small radio on the desk, and the brassy tones of big band jazz come through, clear as a bell.

Marcie grins for a moment, flopping into a wooden chair with relief. She takes another drag from her cigarette, and nods for you to sit as well. "I can't thank you enough Nate, I'll make sure to get you some caps sometime. But first, I bet you're pretty disoriented, you look like you've never even stepped outside of your precious little vault until five minutes ago. What do you want to know? I've got a few minutes."
>>
>>43746148
well first of all where exactly am I?
>>
>>43746391
"Like I said, this is Ocean Point. In the grand scheme of things? We're about twenty five kilometers by road from Gastown and the ruins of Old Vancouver, and about the same distance south of Chief, in what used to be the province of British Columbia."

is there anywhere around here i could acquire some basic gear? I would be willing to work for it as i don't have anything to trade or any cash
>>
>>43746598
"But none of that means anything to you, I'd guess. Gastown's the biggest settlement around here that I can think of. Nice enough place, I can hardly believe it's still kicking though, what with being just on the edge of Bent Stick territory. Mayor Kang is a decent sort, he's really been driving for more people to come settle down, seems like he's trying to make a real go of getting downtown civilized.

Chief is up north, only been there once or twice. Strange people, to be honest. Style themselves as following "the old ways," whatever the hell that means. Just seem like a bunch of savages, but don't let them catch you saying that. They're friendly enough I suppose. Don't really know of much going on north of that, the road gets too rough to travel and its crawling with all sorts of monsters that just get mad when you shoot at 'em.

What else is there? Hmm. I guess there's the Royals, they make the Chiefers look normal. Running around in those goofy red jackets, spouting shit about "glory and nobility." They used to help keep the Ninety-Nine safe, but they're more focused on killing raiders and parading around.

There's the old University, but no one's bothered to head out there in ages, you gotta go through kilometers of raider and ghoul turf to get there.

There are other settlements here and there, and I know I'm forgetting some stuff, but that's the big stuff."

>"Is there anywhere around here i could acquire some basic gear? I would be willing to work for it as i don't have anything to trade or any cash."

"Not a bad question. Running around in those blue pajamas are a quick way to get shot at, and God knows you're going to need something better than that thing," she gestures towards your spear, stifling a laugh.

"Tell you what, I owe you for fixing the radio relay. How about I give you some gear and supplies instead of caps? Not like there's much to spend them on around her anyways."

(Assuming you agree)
She leads you a few doors up the street to a two story home. At one point it must have been a regal thing, but the ravages of the years have clearly taken its toll. Bits of plywood and sheet metal cover holes in the siding, many of the windows are broken and crudely repaired, and the patio is supported by rough hewn logs.

She leads you inside out of the rain, and scurries off up the stairs. "Go throw a log in the furnace will ya? It's right in the kitchen, I'll be right back."

The kitchen is a firm departure from the comforts of the Vault you'd grown so accustomed to: a slightly warped vinyl table with a few matching chairs, and a large pipe stove are the only two pieces of furniture besides a few cupboards and shelves. The walls are decorated with an eye-watering barrage of pre-war advertisements from every brand and product imaginable: metal Nuka Cola plaques, Abraxo Cleaner fliers, and even a Vault Tec poster, among other things. You set your meager bag of belongings on the floor and hanging your rain poncho over the back of a chair. By the time you've added a few pieces of firewood to the dwindling fire in the stove, Marcie has returned with a wooden box the size of a Vault Tec footlocker.
"Here, take a look at some of this stuff, maybe it'll work out for you?" she wanders to the cupboard and starts rummaging around as you examine the contents of the box. Inside you find:
a battered pork pie hat,
a "white" undershirt,
a leather belt,
a pair of tan slacks,
a hunting knife with sheath,
a large leather bag with a shoulder strap,
a pair of wool socks,
and some boots.

"When you head out, I'll give you some food and water, hope you like Instamash!" she sits down across from you and slides you a cup of hot, dark liquid. "So tell me, what was life in the vault like? Why the hell did you leave?"

I can't remember to tell the truth. Kinda woke up on the wrong side of the pod, in the woods.

Upside I still remember my schooling for medical and scientific areas. Although I wonder why I like big guns.

Heh, maybe I was a Madman before this.
>>
>>43748525

"Pre-war science and medicine huh? You seem pretty young for that kinda stuff, no offence. That sure's an interesting story either way, sorry you're stuck out here in this hell hole now."

She takes a long sip from her cup and gets up to put it away. You take a tentative sip and wince; the "coffee" tastes like stewed pine sap and vodka, though even that little bit instantly warms your insides. Warmth starts to creep back into your fingers as the stove's heat fills the room.

"You know, the folks in Gastown could really put a guy with your skills to good use. Bet Mayor Kang would pay you decently too, heard he's got some scheme cooking or something like that."
>>
Woops, forgot to trip that last one, was on mobile.

I'm headed to a party now, so I'll pick this up again tomorrow morning probably around 10am PST. Hopefully I don't fall asleep so much tomorrow. Thanks for reading folks!

Marcie rummages around the cupboard a bit more and returns with two small, battered cardboard boxes. She tosses one to you, and then a bent fork.

"You like Salisbury Steak?" she asks through a large mouthful. You open the package and prod the questionable grey mass that greets you. "Go on, it won't bite. Probably." You tentatively take a small bite and instantly regret it, the wet spongy texture and bland yet sour taste a far cry from your usual Vault fare.

"I'll uh, I'll finish it later," you say, putting the fork back down. "Suit yourself vaultboy, but you'll have to eat sooner or later," a devilish grin lighting up her face.

"Well, town dinner's not for a few more hours at least. I was gonna head out and do some scavving with Gumdrop, you can come along if you think you can keep up. If you're gonna be dead weight, you could also just stay and explore Ocean Point a bit, I'm sure some folks round here would love to hear all about a vault."

Looks like we'll need a tiebreaker to continue. Is it still just the three of you guys?

Okay I guess I'll break it, if this post ends in odds you go scavenging, evens and you stay and explore Ocean Point.
>>
"I think I'll stay behind, that sounds pretty dangerous. Besides, this Salisbury Steak isn't going to eat itself. At least, I think," you reply as you try to force down another bite.

"Suit yourself vaultboy," Marcie says with a smirk, shouldering a backpack, "seeya around." With that she exits the house, leaving you sitting alone with your lunch. You manage to force yourself to eat the rest, no matter how much your tongue protests. You change out of your vault suit and into the clothes Marcie gave you. They're a little bit big, but are a hell of a lot warmer than your suit. You put the rest of your belongings in the leather bag and go outside.

You wander down the street, passing the few inhabitable houses that stand. There doesn't appear to be anything in the way of shops or services until you are nearly at the gate. What once might have been a property management office has since been repurposed; a wooden sign hangs above the door reads "Ocean Supply." You find the door unlocked, and choose to enter. Inside, it appears to be a sort of shop. Behind the reception counter, a series of make-shift shelves hold a wide assortment of items, from bottle of nuka-cola to boxes of ammunition to random junk. The shop is illuminated by a strand of Christmas lights hanging loosely across the ceiling. A beat up radio sits on the corner of the counter, playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRfRITVdz4k.

A bell labelled "ring for service" rests on the counter, which you promptly do. After a moment, a lean mustachioed man in a jean jacket emerges.

"Hey there! You're that vault dweller that done fixed the radio, right? Good job there, I was gettin' real sick of listnin' to nothin' but static and wind. What can I do for ya, ya here to trade, or just practicing your English?"

The man scratches his chin, "ya know, I actually could use some help. Been pullin' nuka-cola outta this old shipping container down by the water a ways for a while. Guess it musta fallen off one of the old cargo ships way back when. Any rate, some real nasty critters moved in a few weeks back and I haven't been able to get down there and deal with it myself, bum leg y'know. If ya can drive 'em off, I'd be glad to pay ya. I'll even let ya borrow a pistol if ya need'un.

Course, if you've got some junk on ya I might want to buy it off ya, or ya can just trade it for goods the old fashioned way, if ya don't have any caps."

>"Sounds like we got a deal then. Oh by the way, are they edible?"

The shopkeeper chuckles, "you really are fresh out of the vault, aren't ya. If you can choke something down without it killing ya, it's edible. Crab meat ain't the best, but it's better than Instamash at least."
>>
>>43760829
>Crab meat ain't the best

>>

Crabmeat is my shit yo, but I imagine hundreds of years of radiation and mutation would take a toll.

>Get the pistol and head set out for the place.

The shopkeeper slides a weathered pistol over the counter. "Don't run off on me now, I'm giving ya this on good faith!"

It feels heavy in your hand, despite its size. You exit Ocean Supply and make your way down the winding road down to the beach. You pick your way across a rough trail that leads along the shore, as indicated by the shopkeep, dark grey waves crashing against stone as rain continues to pelt down. After about ten minutes of walking, you catch sight of something unusual: a battered red cube of metal jutting at an angle from the dirt and rocks. The familiar Nuka-Cola logo is scrawled across the side of it in white, but of greater note is the sight of an enormous crab gnawing on the bloody corpse of a fish in front of it.

A ghoul in a pre-war business suit and matching fedora sits crouched further up behind a dune, noting your approach as you come along the path. He steps out, both hands up enough to show he's not hostile. "Whoa there, partner." His voice is as rough as stones in a tumbler, and his stance suggests he's packing a weapon of his own. "Got time to help a fella pick something out from the water?" He gestures with a jerk of the wrist over his shoulder at the very crate you were sent to get. "I'll make it worth your while. I can work with this, Ghoul McCool will be an NPC under my control, for the time being.

You activate V.A.T.S., targeting the crab's spindly legs. Your Pipboy tells you it's an easy shot, and you level your gun. You squeeze the trigger.
>>
>>43761707
that good or bad?
>>

Your shot easily lands, seperating the crab from its legs in a spray of ichor and flesh.

Just then, you spot a horribly disfigured man in a pre-war business suit and matching fedora step out from behind a large rock, both hands up enough to show he's not hostile. "Good shot there, partner." His voice is as rough as stones in a tumbler, and his stance suggests he's packing a weapon of his own. "Got time to help a fella pick something out from the water?" He gestures with a jerk of the wrist over his shoulder at the very crate you were sent to get. "I'll make it worth your while. Cut you in on what it's worth to me."
