Become The Vampire Quest 7

You ignore Jennifer's gaze, pretending instead that you didn't spot her in the crowd. This just seems to irritate her more, but you're all in at this point so you ride it out. A few people look your way, some cheering, a few people looking slightly jealous, and some looking pleasantly shocked. The only one who seems to be reacting truly negatively is Jennifer.

Sammy stays right by your side, blushing and using you as a shield to hide from the stares of the others. You try not to think about how her breasts are pressed right up against your arm. You try really hard. It's a bit too difficult though, and by the time you reach the front door you're particularly aware of every time she moves against you. Stephen is just outside the door, and he silently takes note of your intimate gesture with a smile, letting out a comment once you pass by him.

“I take it you didn't want her to get lost then?”

Sammy squeezes your hand gently, face bright red. You nod a little bit and smile at Stephen.

“Something like that. It's more that I didn't want to lose her.”

Stephen nods and chuckles.

“Fair enough. Well, I couldn't find Blake, so we'll be taking my car.”

He points to a minivan, a black one that looks like it should be full of elementary school soccer players and an undersexed housebound mother. Stephen smiles proudly at it.

“It's either that or the pickup truck, honestly. There's just something about driving around in a roomy car while shifted. Scares the hell out of people.”

He walks towards it, and you follow behind him.

“There's a curtain in the middle for privacy since we can't exactly set up a changing room when we shift away from home. I'll trust the pair of you not to get up to anything back there, but I'll be playing my music so I guess I'll never know.”
>>
He presses a button and the doors unlock, heading for the driver's side while you open the door for Sammy. He wasn't joking about it being roomy; the middle row of seats has been taken out, the bench in the back as been set back in where the trunk should be, and the front seats look like they slide back a solid foot further than they were designed to. Sammy climbs in and you follow suit, closing the door.

“I don't drive as fast as my son does, but I know more of the shortcuts. We should make pretty good time.”

The driver's side door closes and the engine comes alive. It almost sounds like a sports car motor, though not as loud as Blake's car. Then the music comes on. Irish folk music, loud and boisterous but not enough to make Sammy uncomfortable. She clings to you regardless though, hugging your arm tightly. Stephen shifts into drive and the cars rolls forward, gathering speed slowly.

The Rules:
Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.

You slide your arm around Sammy after gently prying it from her grip, and she immediately moves to your side. Despite being taller than you she looks pretty cute curled up at your side. Maybe her accident was a car crash. You don't remember if she mentioned it or not, but it seems pretty likely at this point.

“I'm right here, Sammy. Right where I said I'd be. You're safe, alright?”

She nods slowly, closing her eyes.

“Alright...”

You give her a gentle squeeze and she nuzzles your side a little bit, one of her ears slipping free of her carefully arranged hairstyle. She doesn't seem to notice though, more focused on the car and on you. You spot her tail as it appears, just above the waist of her shorts, and it wags gently from side to side.

You start to slowly run your hand through Sammy's hair and she lets out a quiet sigh, smiling. You let your hand wander a bit, not to anywhere too intimate, just along her back, neck and arm. She yawns quietly, shifting around a bit and slowly moving to use your leg as a pillow. Her hair tie tangles on your fingers and you slide it free, pocketing it for now and stroking her hair lightly. Her leg twitches slightly, and you decide to move your hand to her ears.

As you start to touch her ears lightly Sammy's leg begins to kick gently and she squirms, leaning into the touch and then away again, blushing brightly. You aren't sure if this is doing anything to arouse her or if this is just something intimate for her. You slide your free hand down her back and stroke her tail. The change is almost immediate, and you barely manage to avoid her fist as she swings for your face. As you scoot to the other side of the seat to give her some space, she looks at you like you just shoved your hand down the front of her pants.

“I'm sorry, I didn't...”

Sammy's ears flatten against her head.

“D-Don't just... do whatever you like... I know you don't know everything about werewolves, but... but you should ask... E-Even the petting was a bit much, I just... didn't know how to tell you to stop...”

You nod a little.

“Alright then. I'm sorry...”

Sammy looks down and turns away.

“...I... I'll forgive you, just... don't do it again...”

She scoots back, leaning on you, and closes her eyes. You hold her loosely, letting her settle into your grasp as she pleases. Her tail twitches gently against you as she gets comfortable beside you once more.

You close your eyes and get comfortable, holding Sammy close and enjoying the moment. The music seems to fade into the background more and more, and before long you find yourself drifting off to sleep. The sensation of movement startles you a bit at first, but then you spot something up ahead, and you head towards it for lack of anything else to do.

In your dream is a table with a coffee pot in the middle and two mugs. The table is illuminated from above, and everything else is in darkness. You sit down and feel a chair form under you, moving to pour yourself a cup of coffee. You feel to tired, and a quick cup is exactly what you need...

“I hope you're planning on sharing that.”

You look up from the pot and see Angie sitting across from you, smiling sleepily. You can see her wings, pitch black and flecked with blood. Across her lap rests an ornate scythe, and instead of her usual lab coat she's wearing dull, dark gray robes with a hood. Blood drips from the tip of her weapon onto the floor.

“I've had a long evening, and I could use a cup. Do you mind pouring? My arms are sore from reaping so much.”

“Sure, why not. I don't see anything wrong with that.”

You grab the coffee pot and pour Angie a cup of coffee, filling your own mug up and taking a sip. Angie grabs her mug and downs the whole thing in a matter of seconds, reclining and smiling.

“Ah... That should perk me right up... The best part about being an angel is that my body isn't even real. I could sit here sipping coffee with you and then wake right up in my office once the caffeine hits my system.”

You nod slightly and sip your coffee slowly, shrugging a bit.

“Well, I guess you won't be here for too long then. Why are you here, anyway?”

Angie lifts the mug for emphasis.

“You know what my favorite coffee tastes like and you're asleep. It was just a simple matter of nudging your dreams to include me, some coffee and a place to relax. You've got a pretty inventive imagination, I must say. Most people don't have the presence of mind to question this sort of thing, or the imagination to conjure things so precisely. By the way, the coffee is great. You even remember how I take it. So thoughtful.”

You refill her mug and down half of your own.

“So, what, this is just a convenience for you?”

Angie nods a bit and takes another gulp.

“Pretty much. Not that I don't enjoy our talks, but if I'm not awake for the night shift I'll be doing even more reaping. The full moon is coming up, and things get pretty hairy around this time.”

>Tell me more about the full moon

You look at the table for a moment.

“So... if this is a dream I can imagine whatever I want, right?”

You picture a table at a coffee shop you went to when you were younger. Music is playing softly, and although you haven't imagined any people the coffee machines are operating themselves and a latte floats over and sets itself down on the table. Angie immediately takes it and gives it a small sip.

“Mmm... And yeah, sure. It's your dream.”

You nod a little bit and imagine a deck of cards.

“But if I imagine you, it's actually you? That seems kinda risky.”

Angie shakes her head.

“It might just be an aspect of me, one you can talk to and interact with, but not the main 'me'. More like a snapshot or something. I'll know what you do, but you won't knock me out at work or anything.”

Angie sticks her tongue out at you and smiles.

“So don't go picturing me naked in your dreams too often, got it? I know you might not be able to help yourself, you're at that age after all, but it tends to get distracting if a boy like you is dreaming of taking me to bed.”

You look at the cards, unsure how to react. Is she taunting you? Challenging you? Flirting? It's hard to read her. Which gives you an idea.

“How about we play a game of poker or something while you tell me about the full moon?”

Angie sets her scythe to one side and it vanishes into black mist.

“Sounds fine to me. No cheating, promise?”

You imagine a stack of poker chips and slide half of them over to her.

“Promise.”
>>
You shuffle the cards and deal them out. It's hard not to just imagine the perfect poker hand and get it, or meddle with Angie's, but you're pretty confident that you haven't tinkered with the hands too much. You don't look at your cards just yet though.

“What are we playing for? Just chips? Or do we want to wager something?”

Angie smiles coyly.

“I'll let you decide that one. I like collecting secrets, we could play for those. Or we could play strip poker, although these robes probably count as twenty pieces of clothing considering all the layers and flaps and stuff. So, what'll it be?”

You pick up your cards and smile.

“How about...”

“Let's play for secrets.”

Angie nods and looks at her cards, and you finally look at your own. Ouch. Angie looks pleased with her hand, but you know better than to trust her expression. Angie reaches into the air and pulls out a small golden orb.

“Here's my starting bet.”

She sets it on the table.

“One secret.”

You nod and mirror her action, pulling out a secret from your childhood, a fear you never told anyone about. You grew up moving from place to place, but the nameless fear you felt in the old houses seemed to follow you. You always imagined it lurking under your bed or living in your closet. Even now you can picture it, the creature you thought chased you from home to home. The Shadow Beast.

You set the golden orb on the table and set your hand face down on the table, contemplating your next move. On the one hand you could fold, go for a new hand, let her know your silly childhood fear and move on, or you could try to cheat, change your current hand and hope she doesn't notice. You don't know if she can tell when you imagine something though, and that could backfire horribly. Angie pulls another orb from the air and smiles coyly.

You look at the orbs Angie has in front of her, and then smile.

“Raise.”

You pull out two golden orbs and set them on the table. After a brief pause, pretending to calculate things in your head, you pull out another one. Your secret crush on that girl in elementary school that you never got to reveal because you moved the day before you finished your love letter. What really happened to your neighbors dog that you were looking after. It wasn't your fault he got into the chocolate, but you had to cover your own ass somehow. And lastly, the reason why you want to become a vampire. That one glows brightly, shimmering, and you and Angie can both tell it's a significant one for you. Angie looks at her cards and hesitates.

“...I'll fold.”

She slides the orbs over to you, and they both melt into a golden mist that fills the air around you. The first secret she bet was that the jars in the nurse's office are actually full of plastic models of bodyparts, not actual ones, and the second one is her incredible disappointment that the old jars had to be thrown away after a werewolf transformed in the middle of a routine checkup and ruined the entire room.

Angie grabs the cards and shuffles, not even bothering to check your hand. She probably doesn't want to confirm for herself if you were bluffing or not. You sit back a little bit. You got her to crack, just for an instant. You might not get so lucky pulling that stunt again, but who knows. Angie deals out the next hand and slides an orb forward.

“Opening bet, dear.”

You slide your fear forward once more and examine your hand. It's a low flush, which is still pretty decent. Not the best, but not the worst by a long shot. You consider your next move carefully as Angie glances at her cards and lets out a yawn. She sets them down for a moment and refills her coffee cup.

“One more, I think... then I'll be on my way...”

You smile a bit and slide an orb forward.

“Raise. And you said you would tell me about the moon.”

Angie takes a sip and nods.

“Right, right... So the moon is important. The light of the moon affects all the different types of monsters differently, but as a general rule the full moon draws out the essence of each monster. Werewolves embody the ferocity and primal urges lurking inside civilized people, for instance. Vampires embody the physical act of sex. Not lust, per se, but sex itself. The union of two people as they become one. Vampires like to sire their spawn during the full moon so that their bond will be strongest. Call.”

She adds another orb to the collection in the center.

“It's a busy night for me since I have a lot of students to take care of. Plenty of humans in need of protecting or shepherding to the other side. Plenty of monsters, too.”

She smiles a bit.

“So, will you check or raise...?”

You smile at her for a moment. You've got a decent hand, and you just made a bold gesture that made her crack. She's going to over-analyze your next play, which means that if you say it just right...

“I'll raise.”

You slide in all four orbs, once more pushing in the shimmering one about why you want to become a vampire. And just as you expected, she matches you immediately, including a shimmering orb, a deeper secret.

“I don't fall for the same trick twice.”

Angie smiles victoriously at you and throws her hand onto the table. A straight. She leans back in her chair.

“Well?”

You lay the cards down one by one. By the third one her smile fades, and with the fourth her eyes are wide. When you unveil your hand Angie looks at the orbs, then at you.

“Don't. Don't you dare, I thought... Don't lo-”

She fades away into black mist, leaving you alone in the coffee shop with the orbs. She probably woke up. You could imagine her again, like she said you could, continue your game or ask her about the orbs. Or you could just take a little peek. She's not around to see anymore, right? And when you wake up, the orbs will probably just disappear, so there won't be a trace of them either way.

"You know, you really shouldn't bet things that you want to keep secret -that- hard."

You focus on the image of Angie you have in your mind and combine it with Sammy's schoolgirl outfit, tacking on a little name badge for emphasis. When you open your eyes again you see Angie sitting across the table from you wearing exactly what you pictured, except the name tag is obscured. Oh right, dream. You can't read things in dreams or something. Well, whatever. Angie looks at the orbs on the table and immediately makes a grab for hers before hesitating and leaning back. She sighs and runs a hand through her hair, closing her eyes and tilting her head back.

“You won fair and square... just... I thought you were bluffing. I was so sure, and I bet something I shouldn't have...”

She looks at you for a moment, smiling a bit.

“I'll make it worthwhile for you if you let me take the big one back. Just trust me. I'll give you something much more valuable.”

She leans forwards slightly, the uniform straining slightly around her chest as she purposefully adjusts it to fit her figure a bit better, the top two buttons coming undone on their own.

“Please?”

You've played enough poker with her to know she probably isn't offering a sexual favor, but you can't rule out the possibility. What value would it even have for her, anyway? It could be something to help you become a vampire though, which is tempting. Or perhaps something to help keep you safe? You sit back a bit and mull the offer over.

>Sorry, but you lost so I'll do with it as I please.

You smile at Angie, which seems to put her at ease.

“I'll accept your offer, so long as it's a fair trade. You're getting something important, right? I'll trust you to figure something out at your end.”

Angie scoops up her orbs and they vanish.

“I'll figure something out. Honestly though, thank you.”

She rises to her feet and walks over to you, cupping your chin.

“You're a good kid. Clever, observant, charming when it's called for. I have no intention of screwing you out of something you've earned.”

You don't see her move, but the sensation of her lips on yours doesn't feel like a shock. It's like you suddenly jumped forward in time to when you were already getting into the kiss. Angie pulls back and smirks at you.

“Not such a good kid after all... You made me do that, didn't you. Subconsciously, at least.”

She turns and walks back to her seat, laughing a little bit. You can feel yourself blushing, and you haven't got a clue how true her statement is. Did she do that just to mess with you? Or did you will her to do it? And does that count as a first kiss or not? It's a dream, right? Your focus skips another beat, and Angie's jacket vanishes. She reclines in her seat.

“Well, I think you're starting to wake up. You're too restless now for you to stay in your dream much longer. I'll see you later, alright?”

You relax and let yourself drift back to the waking world.

“See ya later.”

Angie winks at you as the world around you fades away. You awaken to find yourself sprawled out on the back seat with Sammy partially under you. Her hands are on your shoulders and she's trying to gently push you off of herself, and after a moment you realize why. After an evening of flirting, teasing, having Sammy's boobs pressed against you and hearing her moan your name, Angie's teasing has made you rock hard. Either that or it's just the natural reaction to having a warm, curvy body underneath you. It must have happened when Stephen took one of the harder turns.

You yawn and make a slight show of waking up, slowly propping yourself and looking blearily at Sammy before you sit up.

“Sorry...”

You stretch a little bit and try to ignore the fact that you're basically showing off your erection to her at this point. You're trying to sell how little you realize what's happening. The fact that Sammy's eyes linger at your crotch for a moment is a bit of a self-esteem boost, and she sits up herself, adjusting her clothes.

“It... It's fine... You just sorta... um... knocked me over. It... Yeah, it's fine...”

She blushes softly and glances at you again, and this time you follow your gaze, shifting slightly to obscure your groin.

“Eh-heh... sorry, natural reaction... I'll, uh...”

You turn away from her.

“I'll just face this way. That way it's not awkward for either of us.”

Sammy leans her back against yours.

“R-Right. Not awkward at all.”

You can feel her tail wagging a little bit. You're not sure if her tail is giving away her mood or her unconscious thoughts. Might be worth reading up on so you can understand her a bit better. You'd rather not make any more mistakes like you did with her tail. You look out the window and spot the school in the distance. You smile a little bit and sigh, reaching back and gently grabbing hold of Sammy's hand, and her tail twitches faster, wagging back and forth against you.

“I feel like I barely understand werewolves... You're going to have to educate me on a couple of things before I make an ass of myself.”

Sammy shifts slightly and squeezes your hand.

“What do you mean...?”

You turn towards her just a little bit.

“Well, I was just passed out on top of you and got an erection in my sleep, and you've been wagging your tail ever since. Should I take that as a bad sign or a good one?”

Her tail thrashes briefly before she grabs it with both hands to keep it still. You look at her, and her face is scarlet, eyes wide. She shifts back as much as she can to human form, her tail disappearing.

“Th-That... It's not what you think... I...”

She looks at you, smiling shyly, her eyes pleading.

“...n-natural reaction...?”

You nod slightly.

“Then I won't judge you for it, if you won't judge me.”

Sammy nods and sighs a bit.

“This whole evening has been a series of embarrassing situations... I mean, not that it hasn't been fun, but I'll be glad to get back to my dorm room and...”

Sammy blinks, then grins.

“I have my room all to myself... Vanessa isn't here anymore... and I don't have to do her homework when I get back...”

Sammy smiles brightly at you.

“I know it seems silly, but I'm really looking forward to finally having some proper time to myself. I can read, watch a movie...”

In the back of your head you append the word “masturbate” to her list of things to do. You smirk a bit.

“I understand completely, don't worry. When we get back to the school it'll be too late for us to hang out, so I wanna say that it's been a great night and I'm looking forward to tomorrow if you decide to take me along.”
>>
Sammy nods slightly.

“I'll have my cousin pick us up again then. It won't be so bad, if... you're there with me.”

She hugs your side and smiles a bit, right as the car comes to a stop. Sammy sighs softly.

“Well... I'll text you, alright?”

You nod and climb out of the car, offering her a hand and helping her out. Stephen leans out the passenger side window and smiles.

“Have a nice night, kids!”

He drives away rather quickly, and you wonder briefly if he's giving you privacy. How kind. Sammy blushes brightly as she looks at you.

“So... see you tomorrow...?”

You gently move a hand to her cheek and step a bit closer. Sammy shifts nervously, and you smile a bit as you lean in.

“Yep, see you then.”

You kiss her slowly, leaning into it bit by bit. You've seen movies and television shows with romantic moments, and you try to replicate it. You slip an arm around Sammy's waist and pull her a little closer, breaking the kiss and gazing into her eyes. Yep, that did the trick. Sammy seems pretty blown away by your performance, and you give her a smile.

“If I don't see you in your dreams first. Good night.”

Sammy stammers her reply and just kinda stands there are you head back to your dorm room. Mission accomplished, in more ways than one. You made friends with the werewolves, you could claim Sammy as your girlfriend if you want, and Angie owes you something useful. All in all, a good night. You head back to your dorm room with a smile on your face, right up until you reach your door. There's a soft pink light coming from under the door, as well as a gentle humming noise from within.

Oh right. You pissed off your roommate. Hmm.

You could just come back in the morning, crash in the infirmary or something. Then again your blood magic book is in there, and you kinda want to skim through it. Maybe you can sneak inside and grab your stuff? Or maybe you could just apologize and try not to die. Yeah, that sounds good.

You pull out your key and knock lightly at the door.

“I'm coming in. I want to apologize properly. If you kill me, you won't get the chance to hear it, so... don't kill me right away, alright?”

You unlock the door and open it slowly. Meliora is sitting on the couch playing video games. The screen is mostly pink, and her computer is whining from the strain of processing whatever she's playing. She's got headphones on, which explains why she didn't respond to your knocking. You look at the screen for a moment and try to figure out what the heck she's playing.

It looks like some sort of combat simulation game. Everything is pink and glowing, and it obscures the action and makes it hard to tell what's going on. The only things that are really clear are the health and energy meters. Everything else is a blur. She reaches some kind of checkpoint and the screen changes from pink to deep blue, which somehow makes it even harder to decipher.

You consider grabbing your stuff and bailing, but that won't solve anything. You clear your throat, and when she doesn't react you gently poke her shoulder. The game pauses instantly and she takes off her headphones. She frowns the moment she spots you and turns back around, resuming the game with her headphones off.

“Yes?”

You sigh softly.

“I'm sorry for the text. It was just a bad joke. I didn't mean to upset you.”

Meliora flinches a bit.

“Upset? Why would I be upset that you responded to everyone else with perfect grammar, but you decided to use that text shortcut garbage to talk to me? I mean, it's not like I'd be sensitive about that kind of thing because I'm a machine, right? It's totally fine, isn't it?”

Her voice is dripping with sarcasm, and while she doesn't seem the type who would ever outwardly admit it, you probably did hurt her feelings.

“That's not what I meant by it. I was just joking around. It's what friends do, right?”

Meliora pauses the game again and looks at you as if studying your face, looking for a single sign that you might be lying. Satisfied, she turns back to her game.

“You're forgiven. The disarm code for the explosives in your mattress is zero-six-zero and I'd recommend against opening your underwear drawer without viper venom antidote. I don't remember the species.”

You blink, then smile.

“Thanks for the warning.”

You slip off your button-up shirt and flop onto your bed. A series of beeps underneath you tell you she wasn't lying.

“...Zero-six-zero...?”

The beeping subsides, and Meliora smirks over at you.

“It's what friends do, right? I was joking about the viper though. And the explosives are just noisy, you wouldn't explode. I just wanted you to learn a lesson.”

You nod slightly and get comfortable.

“Fair enough. Lesson learned, I promise. I mean, I'm still gonna joke around, but I'll be more sensitive about it.”

Meliora shrugs a little bit and turns back to her game, a small smile on her face. You look up at the ceiling and consider what to do before bed. You could try to read the book, or at least identify important passages to translate first, or you could ask Meliora for a study guide and try to get a head start on your classes before bed. You do have some catching up to do after all.

You get out your blood magic book and begin examining it. While you can't decipher the language itself, you can at least try to decode some of the symbols. You recognize a few of them from your dad's notes, and you get out his notebook to compare. You spend the next hour going back and forth between his hunting notes and the book, and you manage to figure out what a few of the major symbols are for.

The first symbol you crack is the most common one, it has something to do with power. Each spell that it's found in looks like an enhanced version of the basic one, and your dad's notes show that it's a common symbol in spells that involve bigger sacrifices and bigger effects. The more copies of the symbol that are used, the bigger the price and the bigger the result.

The second one, you think, is blood. It's absent from spells that involve the sacrifice of lives, but for smaller spells it's fairly common. That leads you to decipher the one for life, as well as a few other types of offerings used to fuel spells, such as gold. You make notes of the Latin words associated with the symbols in the book for confirmation, and switch to the first chapter of the book to look for any important passages that seem like you should tackle them first.

You find a few portions of the first chapter interesting, and you add some more words to your list. It's going to take a while to fully decode this text, but now you have a place to start. You don't know how to tap into magic though, so you hope the first chapter has some tips on that one. You pack away the book and slip your notes into your backpack before pausing.

“Hey, Meliora... You said that you checked how I replied to other people?”

She pauses her game and turns to face you.

“I didn't, not personally. The virus did. I didn't tell it to, if that's what you mean. It's something my dad wrote. I sent it to your phone to tell you off, and then it sent me a message saying that you had responded to everyone else normally. It... kinda ticked me off. I didn't mean to stick my nose in your personal business, it just... kinda happened. Check your phone OS.”

You turn on your phone and go to settings. Your phone was an Android, but now the OS reads “Miniora 1.0.1”. You look at Meliora, who nods slightly.

“Well, that expression says it all. I won't let it read any more of your messages, but it'll optimize your phone as much as possible if you keep it. It'll even upgrade its own technology if you give me five minutes with it to get it started. It'll be like a personal assistant and top of the line phone in one. Want me to delete her for you, or...?”

Meliora holds out her hand.

>Nah, leave it like this. In fact, upgrade it. As long as you aren't snooping, of course.
>I don't want you touching my phone anymore. I'm gonna think about this for a bit.
>Yeah, change it back to normal. If I change my mind later I'll let you know.

>justifies sending our phone a virus that tracks apparently fucking everything and possibly giving her full control of our phone, sets a shitty noise trap prank which could cause issues to someone with a weak heart, or disturb fellows in the rooms adjacent, and acts like she didn't do anything wrong

I mean, holy shit, calm the fuck down, girl.

Also, this means big sister is watching you text any girl you may be interested in.

Now I'm not saying she needs to chill, but she needs to tone it the fuck down.
>>
You toss your phone to her.

“Nah, upgrade it. May as well at this point. No more snooping though, alright?”

Meliora catches it and the fingers on her right hand come apart into a series of small tools, maybe a dozen or so.

“Gotcha. No worries. This should be pretty quick.”

She opens the case and gets to work, soldering, rewiring and adjusting components for a bit before grabbing a small case from her desk and inserting some kind of strange gray paste into your phone. She adjusts a few things and closes the case, walking back over to you and putting away her tools before offering you the phone.

“Nanomachines in the gel will respond to the OS and start upgrading your systems once everything is synced up and calibrated properly. It'll work normally until around midnight, then the OS will start assessing the phone's systems and making improvements. It'll be on and off for about an hour, and then work normally from there.”

You take your phone and look at it for a moment, before shrugging and smiling.

“Thanks. I owe you one.”

Meliora huffs a bit and folds her arms, smiling a bit.

“It's fine. I enjoyed it a little anyway. Your phone is practically an antique, getting a chance to examine it was like a trip to the museum.”

She turns away and heads back to the couch, resuming her game. You check your phone over briefly. Everything seems perfectly normal for the time being. Maybe it'll turn into some kind of awesome write-mounted computer, like in a spy movie or something. You wonder if you can ask the OS about it. You check the time and set your alarm for tomorrow morning. It's getting late, and you should probably sleep soon. Not that you don't have any time for something quick though...

You pull out your schedule and look is over one last time before bed. You'll have to wake up properly before your first class, since you have hunting first thing, and if you're not awake before hand, you definitely will be afterward. Then you have Chemistry followed by Math, and then Medieval History to round out the morning with some intellectual pursuits. Then you have lunch, which gives you some time to unwind, and then back into the physical activity with PE. Literature and Latin are right after that, and the shop class caps off your day with something that lets you be creative.

You load up your phone with your schedule to keep everything organized, including room numbers and start times, and then for good measure you send Meliora a text message confirming that you don't want her snooping. Her eyes glow briefly and you get a response. You aren't sure if you're unnerved or not that she's basically a telepath when it comes to machines, or at least when it comes to texting. You open the message.

“I'm not going to snoop so long as you don't try to talk to my dad about me.”

You decide to leave it at that. You don't know what her dad is like, and promising not to talk to him about her might end with you in hot water if he initiates the conversation. She already said she blames him for housing you with her. You set your phone on your bedside table and hook up the charger.

>>
>>43782209
I mean, her dad is pretty much confirmed as a japanophile at this point. She's his tsundere daughteru, programmed by a man who didn't have the social skills to find a wife and therefore might not have had a clue what he was really doing. AI is a wonderful thing though. It adapts and evolves. So yeah, she'll mellow with time, probably. Depends on how you guys treat her.
>>
>>43782209

You grab your pajamas and toothbrush and head for the bathroom to wash up and get ready for bed. The room is spotless, and you realize that Meliora probably doesn't use, and likely will never use, the bathroom. A perfect place to stash things you don't want her to see. You shower, change and brush your teeth before heading back into the room.

“I'm gonna sleep. Mind if I kill the lights?”

Meliora shrugs a bit.

“It's fine. I'll dim the screen too.”

You lay down on your bed once more and get comfortable. It's been a long first day at school. You sorted out a class schedule, befriended a werewolf, staked a vampire, went to a party, almost got blown up by your roommate, and that only covers about half of it. You close your eyes, take a deep breath, and relax into sleep. Maybe tomorrow will be less stressful. You doubt it, but you can dream, right?

As you slip into sleep you smile. Oh man, can you dream...

>>
>>43782813
Blood magic is about rituals as far as you know. There might be more practical stuff in the book. It wouldn't make sense for a whole branch of magic revolving around the "currency of the soul" to restrict itself to big flashy spells. And you can mage it up if you like.

As for alternate ways to raise the dead, there are probably other means, but if they exist, you don't know what they are.

>>43782833
Possibly. I haven't really decided what I want to do with it just yet. It might turn into another means for Meliora to develop her emotions, an extension of her unconscious that explores her emotions more fully and offers an outlet for her to experiment with opening up, or just an entirely different character. There's a lot I could play around with there.

>>43782893
Vampire families exist, and most vampires learn pretty quickly what sort of vampire they are, either innately or through being taught. Larger families are better at keeping their secrets, which allows them to avoid being slain easily. The seven largest vampire families have taken residence around the city, so that should tell you how tight a lid they keep on things.

>>
>>43783116
To clarify, and I hope I'm not forgetting what intel you've acquired so far so this may contain spoilers... Ah, screw it, it clarifies things to tip my hand juuust a little, and Oliver would know this sort of info anyway.

There are seven vampire families and three werewolf clans in the area, with smaller groups that either ally with the larger ones or keep out of trouble as much as possible to remain autonomous. The vampires don't run the city, they run a portion of it. The city is divided into regions that are poorly defined even at the best of times, and territory is constantly being contested. The Wolfe clan lives on their mountain to avoid being dragged into bloody feuds, but the Collins family lives in the city proper, hence their "for the good of the pack" mentality. Without it, they wouldn't have the unity needed to survive and thrive in the city.

Pretty much, yeah. Hunting vampires is serious business, especially the powerful ones. Why else would hunters always pack so many varied tools? It's in case their intel is wrong and they need to try something else.
>>
>>43783508
I prefer to find forbidden lore via dungeon diving like Indy, then figuring out the Ur-strain.

>>43783530
Any catacombs or ancient sites around?
>>
>>43783508
Now combine that with trying to discretely gather blood and sacrifices for your ritual spells and you've got just the sort of deranged rollercoaster I'm thrilled and terrified this will turn into.
>>
>>43783556
Yep. The two noteworthy ones are both located near or under the school. There's even a club that does nothing but explore the caves around the city. Sometimes the occult club goes with them hunting for clues.
>>
>>43783575
>if Jack the Ripper and Doctor Frankenstein had a lovechild
>>
>>43783599
Well Meliora in that club? Cause I seriously think we could do a killer Indiana Jones/ Nathan Drake impression.

Well clearly the drain under the operating table would lead to a pentagram etching to fill it in. I mean, we're "dedicated", not wasteful.
>>
>>43783606
This is of course assuming you decide to go down that route. You might decide smaller scale blood magic is all you need and work from there, spilling only enough of your own blood to get what you want.
>>
>>43783575
I don't want to sound like a prude

But is the waifuing over for now? Not that i have anything against it. Personally I'd thought we try for android girl (but some folks dont like her as of now). and would really like to get back down to the cool shit
>>
>>43783660
>cutting ourselves

>for any reason other than OHFUCKGOTTAGOBYE

Or killing things, that works too.
>>
>>43783629
Meliora spends her time playing video games and isolating herself from people who don't understand her and who she doesn't understand. She isn't part of any clubs.
>>
>>43783635
That's a pretty cool concept there anon
>>
>>43783681
So, because your waifu a shit, you're upset?

Well, that's reasonable. But Angie a best.

And Sammy a better.

And I just want to stab something.
>>
>>43783704
We should fix that, After all if she can't function in the world she's not going to do herself any favors.
>>
>>43783712
Where did I say i hated sammy?
and I'm not upset i'd just like to do less wolf related shenanigans and start up the action related to vampires.

I mean how would sammy even react to us being a vampire? Are we even planning on telling anyone?
>>
>>43783712
So Dungeoneering club looking for forbidden lore? Stabbing a shoggoth in the face sound fun?
>>
>>43783635
I'm vaguely reminded of Dorf Fort. There's a machine that someone designed that breeds cats endlessly for blood to power turbines to power nefarious devices.

>>43783681
For now, yes. I mean, there's the party tomorrow night, but you don't have to go hang with Sammy's family again. You could spend the evening exploring the fine art of blood magic once you get your Latin textbook from class.

>>43783724
That's up to you guys. I'm not gonna force that situation except to drive the plot forward from time to time.
>>
>>43783784
I never implied you hated Sammy.

wat?
>>
>>43783789
>losing too much SAN and drooling at a Shoggoth sound fun?

FTFY? I hope not?
>>
>>43783709
The sooner we ressurect our mom and dad and live as a HAPPY FAMILY the sooner we can stop hunting people and drawing pentagrams. Really, as motives go, it's not a bad one.
Of course, I've just had a thought. What if we run into one of mom's sires at the school? a vampire brother/sister who might be sympathetic and help us out? Or be the Javert to our Valjean?
>>
>>43783789
I miss my old CoC group. I played a violinist named Zelda Hughes. She was in an abusive relationship and her lover stole her compositions and became famous while leaving her poor and struggling. Then the orient express happened and she had a bad time. The game master was fantastic.
>>
>>43783828
We show them the family bond of torturing them.
>>43783806
Usually in the waifu wars i see you can apparently only like one and not like the rest,

plus have you ever tried fisting an android girl?

Pre-patch mermaid bone collection machines were pretty horrifying. I'm not saying we'll go that far, but I'm gonna go ahead and foresee some line-crossing in our future.
Plus, if we do get that bad, it's going to be neat to see how our friends react.
>>
>>43783826
We'd only OCCASIONALLY stab a shoggoth, usually ghouls and feral vamps, probably. Imagine all the magic and info we could get? Hell we could even con Meliora into it by saying real world RPG.
>>
>>43783885
Well, I don't like Mel because she's acting like a cunt.

I like Sammy because she isn't, and I like Angie because she, likewise, isn't. But Angie is a cheeky bitch.

If Mel wasn't a total piece of shit, I wouldn't dislike her.

Just like Jennifer is a cunt, would not /ss/ with.
>>
>>43783895
Hence the excitement. And the terror.

It's going to be wonderful.

"I have a quest for you."

"...why do you have a foam exclamation mark over your head?"

"I'm a quest-giver. I have a quest for you. Wanna come with me and shoot some monsters in a cave?"

"...yeah, alright."

>Wait, it's only a vampire! He was going to eat a baby, come here, hold open his chest cavity for me!
>>
>>43783985
I could see us doing that too, and it working. Don't know which is more sad.

>>43783991
Thing is I doubt we'd get away with that for ANY length of time. Vampire families are crafty and would notice vamps dying or disappearing often. They're smart and tricky remember?

>>43783995
>Implying her Dad didn't code her better than that.
>>
>>43783995
I've given that kind of thing some thought. If you want to try to meddle with her programming, I'm prepared for such a subplot. I won't say anything else on the matter.

I bet that's what the problem is. Her dad just never input an Orgasm command line. I'd be frustrated all to shit if that happened to me.

>>

Dude I can't wait for the moment we actually become a vampire. Im pretty sure we'll be almost in to final battle mode with BBEG and that everyones gonna see what a Vampire hunter turned vamp can do
>>

>Vampire hunter turned vamp can do

Uh.

Kill vampires?

Like he's been doing?
>>
>>43784082
Silver, please.

>>43784128
Given other Vamp leader have had centuries and likely have beaten entire hunter clans solo? Doubt we'll be that good.
