The gambling hall in this town in a squat building, from the inside you can hear the typical murmur of chatter with the occasional cheer or roar depending on how the dice rolled for some poor or lucky fool. You pause a moment and find your hand wandering to one of the many pockets this new outfit you purchased has, wondering if it was possible... Your fingers brush against a pair of small cubes that rest innocently in your pocket. The Dice. You feel a wave of pensive relief wash over you as you hand grasps them for a moment before letting them fall back into the pocket. You take a steadying breath before approaching the door to the gambling hall, the metal door slides open soundlessly and you step inside. A thick haze of smoke fills the air as species of all kinds partake of their own favorite toxins.

On one side of the establishment you see what appears to be a Spice Bar attended to by a particularly thick Qun'kai, herbs and ingredients of all kinds line the walls in massive jars allowing customers to pick and choose what they wanted ground together into a thick paper wrap for them to warped in and smoke, reminiscent of cigars in appearance. On the other side you see a more traditional bar manned by a Kungvak, a floating creature that looked like a brain surrounded by a thick green jelly and six stringy appendages. They were potent psychics, some of the most powerful in the galaxy, which was apparent as several bottles filled with stuff even you haven't heard of floated around the creature as it was mixing a drink.

Tables with games of all kind lined the building. Some were familiar, like Blackjack, Poker and Liar's Dice; all games of your people, or Ryashak a popular Qun'kai dice game. Others were less familiar, but knowing your luck it wouldn't be hard for you to win. Sitting at the bar you see a massive woman, where her right arm should have been instead a massive cybernetic exists with what appears to be a gatling gun resting where her hand would naturally be. On the opposite side you see a scrawny old man who holds himself like a veteran smokes from a pipe at the spice bar. Lastly there are the tables themselves where there is fortune to be won.

You feel eyes upon you as you saunter through the room, seems everyone, including the woman at the bar, feel the need to glance at you, likely trying to gauge you and your mettle. The old man is the only one who it seems cannot be bothered to acknowledge your presence. You take the seat next to him and stony silence is the only thing he greets you with as he takes another long draw from his pipe and breaths the thick concoction of smoke through his nose.

The Qun'kai manning the spice bar shuffles over to you, his two sets of arms crossed making him look what he likely imagines is intimidating. Truth be told stuff like that doesn't really scare you anymore. Comes with the territory of Pirate Lord... or former Pirate Lord you suppose. That'll be fixed in time.

"What can I get ya?"

The reptilian creature growls.

"I'll just take some tobacco if you don't mind. Also if you have a pipe for it that'd be grand."

You request.

The Qun'kai grumbles as we stalks over to the appropriate jar, taking out your poison of choice and searching here and there for a spare pipe. Eventually he produces one, it's nothing grand but after having gone so long with your fix and with your favorite pipe being destroyed with your ship, you'll take what you can get. The pipe is presented to you with the tobacco loaded and a small package of matches on a tray. You nod your head in thanks, bring the pipe to your lips, light it and take a long draw.

The bitter taste fills your mouth and lungs, and for the first time in too long you feel the fire on your tongue. Your part your lips and breathe out slowly, savoring the earthy taste as it passes back through your lips and over your tongue. The old man continues his stony silence, though you see a flicker of movement as he glances at you while you finish your first draw.

>What do you say?

"It's been too god damned long since my last drag. What about you? What's your poison?"

You ask the old man.

He turns to you and at last you get a proper look to him, his hair is grey but short and well kept, his beard matching in kind. Where there should be an eye in his left socket there is instead a rather complex piece of machinery, a cybernetic eye that looks to be military grade. It focuses on you as the old man takes another long drag from his pipe.

"Not worth naming, 'cause if I did some day ya might get it in yer head to try it and I won' be held responsible fer some young fools death."

The old man says as he exhales, the large cloud of smoke brushing just past your face. He splits into a toothy grin and starts laughing a dry wheezy laugh.

"So what's yer business here stranger? I know ya didn' come up here jus' tah make small talk with an old man. You've already got the eyes of the place on yer back."

He says, pointing the mouth piece of his pipe at you in an accusatory fashion.

You reply taking another drag from your pipe.

Another rough laugh, sounding more like a cough can be heard from the old man before he replies.

"What's the rush son? Runnin' from somethin'? Well don't make no difference to me. I guess you could say I know a thing or two about this place. First things first if ya' lookin' to win yer fortune here I wouldn't recommend it. Big nasty son of a whore Qun'kai runs this town by the name of Nah'vash and this here hall is where he makes most of his money, so he aint too kind toward strangers that roll up and clean up shop. Unless you got the balls to stand up to him I'd suggest finding your credits elsewhere."

"Have any other suggestions then, for a wandering Captain?"

You ask, the scent of smoke filling your nostrils.

"Oh a Captain are ye'? How does a Captain get stuck anywhere? Have to have a ship tah be a Captain don't ye'?"

Another laugh overcomes him, shaking his body with it's force.

"If I was you son I'd find another place tah be honest. In this town yer either steppin' on others or gettin stepped on, and the only one doin' the steppin are Nah'vash and his boys. But if yer the stubborn type the old lizard has his pride. He can't resist a challenge of some kind because he thinks he has all the dice loaded. If yer clever, quick, or just lucky ya might be able to get somethin' off the snake, but yer life would be on the line."

He continues.

"What's the story of the woman at the bar?"

You ask.

"Oh her? Bounty hunter. Pretty face, not so pretty personality. Apparently she's been out of work and it's left her high and dry out here. Lookin' fer her next big break. If yer have the scoundrel you carry yourself as you'll want tah play it careful with her. Then again she might just be so desperate she might be of service if there's credits on the table."

The old man replies with a puff of thick purple smoke.

"What do you do here old man? What's your story?"

You ask as you take another heavy draw from the pipe.

"Fer' starters the names Reginald, tho none of these scum'll call me by my name proper so I go by Regi 'round here. Used to be a PGF Pilot a long time ago, now I work as a local mechanic. I'm one o' the few things keepin this hole in the ground operatin' so I'm left well enough alone. You're former PGF too aren't ya? Don't answer, ya don't need to. I see it in yer' eyes. Nasty business. Now I'm just an old man."

Regi says with a shrug.

"When you've gotten as famous as I was, you're still a Captain regardless. What's Nah'vash's favorite game?"

You ask, the beginnings of an idea forming in your head.

"Is that the truth of it? Interestin'. Well, he's a fan o' Liar's Dice and Poker to my knowin', figures himself a good bluff."

Regi replies.

"You were a pilot? Are you up to date on the newer tech?"

You ask.

"As much as I can be grounded. But flyin's only about twenty-five percent about the particulars of the controls. The rest in instinct and I'll tell ya' what I got that in spades son."

He replies with another toothy grin.

"She's a bounty hunter huh? Any bounties around here you think I could work with her on?"

You ask.

"Son if there were I assure you she'd not be sitting here drinkin' herself away. The only one worth a damn is for Nah'vash himself and he's untouchable with all his money, influence, and manpower. It'd be suicide."

He replies, shaking his head wearily.

"Speakin' o' which I haven't got yet name yet."

He responds, eyeing you carefully.

"Names. Liam. 'Captain' Liam King."

You say, grinning with pride.

Maybe it was just a break in the ambient conversation, or a lul in the music played overhead in the establishment. Maybe you were just a little too loud for your own good. Your words ring out through the gambling hall and seem to silence any other noise. Before the eyes were on your beck because you were a new face in a place that sees little in the way of new faces. Now it was because they could put a name to the face, and what a name it was.

Some clearly do not believe you, thinking you are a pretender. Others stare in fear, curiosity, excitement, or rage. A single human man stands up and reaches for his laser pistol. His hand shakes and his eyes are fixed on you with a dangerous look in them. You can't be sure what's motivating him to do this, maybe revenge for some slight you didn't know you committed, or maybe for the fame that will come with killing you. All you know is he's got his sight trained on you.

You switch your pipe to your left hand and stand up casually. Your right drifts down to your right hand holster where your pistol lays. You take a long and heavy drag from the pipe and slowly start walking toward the man. His hands tremble as you approach him fearlessly, your eyes are filled with a calm resolve, the kind a man like him has never seen before. He flinches and shoots. The shot goes wide and shatters one of the glass jars behind you. He shoots again. This one passes by your face, off by mere millimeters away from you and hits another jar. Another shot and the gun malfunctions. He looks up to you as you are now within arms reach of him. His eyes are filled with fear, his whole body trembles. You breathe out the smoke you inhaled slowly into his face as you bring your pistol out and press it gently against his temple.

Let's give him a bit of a scare, but just give him a fatherly tone like, "Now you've been very silly, haven't you? I'mma take your toy away now."

Then we bet the gun at one of the tables. With our luck, it's some fancy art piece that's worth enough to get us in a high-stakes game.

"It seems you are sincerely lacking in good decision making skills. Maybe if I blast your hand off that'll make you reconsider such actions in the future."

You say, the words come out harshly.

The young man's eyes go wide and he looks as if he wants to speak but the words will not come to him as he open and closes his mouth several times.

"Give me the gun son."

You say, your tone taking on a softer yet stern tone. He offers it to you and you take it after putting your pipe in your mouth and holster it within your left holster. The gun is nothing of any particular value, if anything it's of less value then the PGF one you have, but it's still a gun. After giving it a once over and determining what caused it to malfunction it shouldn't need much to fix it.

"The next time you raise a gun to me is the last. Leave. Now."

You say.

The man nods and begins to scurry away, however he is stopped dead in his tracks as a low sing song voice can be heard from the back of the hall. A massive Qun'kai, probably the largest one you've ever seen standing at seven feet tall makes his way out of a large room in the back. He is well dressed, surprisingly so, and his thin lips are pulled back into a smile that shows of rows of dangerous razor sharp teeth.

"Now now, you can't just expect me to avert my gaze when I've had perfectly good product destroyed by this little... altercation between miscreants."

He says.

"Now Mister.... King, was it? I'm looking to overlook your part in this little mess consider you've not fired a shot. However some of my precious product has been destroyed and I'm afraid someone will need to pay for it. Now if I know little Zak like I know I do, he doesn't have a fifth of the worth of those two jars to his name. So he'll be paying back that debt in... other ways. Unless you're so kind a soul to pay the young man's debt."

He says, his long tongue gliding across his teeth with a disturbing look of hunger.

It takes no genius to figure out this is Nah'vash, and it seems he's trying to make a play of dominance against you by challenging the good will you showed the young man. You can either show subservience to him by paying back the debt and keeping good on your offer to let him go, or you can turn your back on the kid and leave him at this... beast's mercy. If you remember correctly the guard's account you've been using has about 700 credits left which is more then enough to live on for a little while. Or, you could flip the script on him.

"I've got and idea. I'm a gambling man, what do you say we take it to the tables? I'll win back however much the spice was worth. And maybe a little extra."

You reply with a smug smirk.

Nah'vash's face falls as rumors about you swarm around his mind.

"What's wrong? Scared to play dice with the devil?"

You ask, a dangerous glint in your eye.

You're controlling the conversation now and it's apparent to everyone in the room, Nah'vash most of all. Denying you now would be a show of weakness. All eyes are on you now, including the woman at the bar who seems to be eyeing the both of you dangerously. Something tells you she won't do anything, at least not yet. She waiting to see where this goes. So too is Regi watching you cautiously, it seems after what he's seen he's taking you and your claims a bit more seriously.

"Mmmmmmm, fine then. But I've heard the stories about your dice son, in my hall. You use my dice. Understand?"

He asks, the corner of his lip twitching slightly.

"Now then, I'll give you the honor of letting you choose the game. What'll it be?"

"Blackjack suits me just fine."

You reply with an easy shrug.

"Fine."

He replies. A heavy snap comes from one of his four arms and two ragged looking men begin setting up a table and shuffling a deck of cards.

"So if you win back the money the debt is payed. But if not... well you'll pay back the debt and whatever else you owe. And... well if you don't have enough, both of you are mine. I could do a lot with a famous man like you Mist-"

He says, his tone drawling.

"Captain. 'Captain' King. Not Mister. Captain."

You say, explaining it slowly, like you would to a child. Tension thickens the air, many are too scared to move or too invested to leave and stay watching the two of you in your staring match.

"Very well... Captain."

He retorts, nearly spiting out the word.

"Let us begin."

Nah'vash handles the cards with a practiced grace which you would not expect from his thick meaty hands. He gives the cards a final shuffle and deals.

You produce the credits necessary from the account you've been using to begin the betting and the game begins.

"You need to win back a grand total of 500 credits to pay off this newly acquired debt Captain. Let's see how well your luck holds out."

The Qun'kai chuckles.

His jovial demeanor doesn't last him very long however. While you lose the occasional hand, time and again your hands seem to be a cut above the house. Eventually you make back the 500 credits back easily and Nah'vash seems to be at his boiling point.

"Enough! How are you doing it? Nobody wins that much! Nobody!"

He roars slamming down one of his fists, causing the table to shake. You eyes meet and his furry is met once more with your steely calm demeanor.

"You tell me Nah'vash, you're the one with the cards. Sure you're shuffling them right?"

You ask with a chuckle.

"You're a very lucky man Captain, but everyone's luck runs out eventually. Just hope it doesn't happen in my hall."

He growls, preparing to turn and leave.

>What do you say?

>"Pleasure doing business with you!"
>"Well why don't we push my luck just a little bit? One more deal. Highest stakes you can fathom. Statistically there's no way possible I should win the next hand. What do you say?" (C)
>"You're a smart man Nah'vash. Imagine what kind of money I could bring you in if you got your hands on me. One more hand. My life on the table for a ship. Or if you don't have one, enough to buy one. I'm likely worth ten times that." (I)
>"It was a good run boss, I have a lot of respect for a man like you." Pat his back and try to swipe something from him while you do. (A)
>Watch him as he leaves to the back to see if there's a way you could sneak in and rob him blind at a later time. (P)
