After you finish eating, you thank your uncle for the advice and help him clean up. You leave your house with a bit of time left. You could head straight to the gate to meet up with Neji and Itachi, or you could use the extra time to run by somewhere real quick.

Rather than emulate Kakashi Sensei, you decide to go to the meeting place early.

You arrive at the village gate before anyone else and decide to take this time to meditate. You feel out around you to see how the Nature chakra is here compared to Kakazan. Even though Kakazan's fruit is still influencing you, you can already tell that Nature chakra will be harder to draw from out here. You'll have to keep up your practice if you want to be effective.

After a while, you see some people approaching. It's the Hokage, accompanied by his wife and child, Neji and Kakashi Sensei.

Neji takes his usual spot leaning against the wall.

"Good to see you so diligent, Kon." Itachi tells you. "I can breathe easy knowing that Kakashi's lessons have been taken to heart."

As Kakashi rolls his eye, Shizune pulls a vial of pills out from her pocket.

"Speaking of which, I brought these since I knew you'd forget them." she says as she hands the vial to the Sixth. "This is the first time you'll be away, and it's for two weeks, so you better be careful. Don't you dare skip a dose. Kon knows some medical ninjutsu, but I'd feel better if he didn't have to use any."

As Shizune and Itachi go on, Kakashi Sensei comes up to you.

"I don'e know if you realize, but this is quite something. Kon." he starts. "To represent the Leaf at this summit is an honor. It's up to you to be the Hokage's eyes and ears. But, you know, no pressure. You'll do fine, am I right?"

Kakashi Sensei is always offering you praise. You have to make sure he knows you appreciate him.

"I will, Sensei." you assure him. You extend your hand towards him, and he grabs it with his own. "Thanks for everything. I'll do my best to make you and the Leaf proud."

"Oh, you've done that already." Kakashi replies. "But keep shooting higher. There may be no limit to what you can accomplish."

After you finish speaking with your teacher, you approach Shizune.

"If worst comes to worst, I may need to administer treatment." you tell her. "Can you tell me about Lord Itachi's condition and how I should handle it?"

"Well I can hope it's not necessary, but you're right." Shizune sighs. "The walls of the blood vessels in his lungs are too thin, and can rupture if his blood pressure gets too high. Lady Tsunade was the only one who could come up with a medicine that can keep them from wearing any thinner, but he needs to keep taking them, and more pills to keep his blood pressure down. If he exerts himself too much, no pills are going to help him. The only hing you can really do is try to keep any vessels from rupturing, and fix ones that do, but don't try and do it all alone. If the worst really happens, just do what you can while you wait for help."

"Relax, Shizune." the Hokage insists. "I won't be doing anything too strenuous. I'll see you when I return."

After everyone says goodbye, the three of you take off down the road. Your mission has begun. You take a moderate pace that will get you there in good time, but won't tire you out. Shortly after you leave, Itachi speaks up.

"I know I invited you Kon, but I tend to not tell you much." he starts. "To drag you along with me while you're in the dark is not very appropriate. I apologize. Please, take this time to ask me anything."

Over the next few days, Itachi takes the time to respond to any inquires you have.

"How is the Land of Iron, Lord Hokage?" you ask. "And what exactly are we expecting from the summit?"

"The Land of Iron is a cold nation to the Northwest. There they have no ninja, but samurai, who specialize in weapons and armor that conduct chakra, like your bracers there." the Hokage explains. "They've long been a neutral party that hosts meetings between the ninja villages. As for what to expect, I think the Raikage is concerned about his brother following Orochimaru's attack. This summit is likely to come up with final countermeasures against Akatsuki. Though there may be a surprise in store for us. The other villages have long been wary of the Leaf. The balance of power has long been tipped far in our favor, and they might want to take steps to limit our influence. Though as long as we keep the support of the Sand and Stone, we should be able to make it through unscathed."

You also let Itachi know of your Sage Mode training. At his insistence, the group takes extra time out of movement to make sure you can meditate to keep your proficiency up. Your pace has to be bumped up a bit, but the Sixth assures that it is alright. At the faster pace, you still have the opportunity to ask more of the Hokage.

"How long have you had that condition, Lord Hokage?" you ask. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

"I was born with the condition, it's just an unfortunate twist of fate. Without Lady Tsunade's intervention, I would surely have died young. I would likely have just died a bit ago, in fact." the Hokage explains. "But everything will be fine now, trust me. Everyone is taking every measure they can to assist me. You don't need to worry yourself."

As you cross over into the Land of Iron proper and start having to wear cloaks to keep the snow off you, you have a final question for the Hokage.

"Lord Itachi, if you don't mind my asking, how are things with your family?" you go on. "I haven't heard much, but surely it must be a concern."

You glance to Neji to see if he reacts, but Neji shrugs.

"Don't worry about it, Kon. I vaguely know what you're talking about." he says. "You don't need to pend extra effort trying to keep me out of the loop, anyway."

"Yes, Neji overheard some clan mates of mine." the Sixth explains. "But it's quite alright. I know he can be trusted. Back to the topic at hand, I've tried to make sure they have no reason to feel displeased. It's honestly grating how much effort I put in to keeping them satisfied, while they refuse to give me the time of day. Though I suppose that's all I can expect after what I've done. If being estranged from my clan is what it takes, then I'll bear it gladly. My only concern is for the future. I have no way of knowing if the younger generation of Uchihas will grow up resenting the village. I had hoped becoming the Hokage and keeping the clan appeased would fix the problem, but I may have misjudged. It's the thing that is most constantly eating away at my mind. Sasuke said that he forgave me for it, but I still don't know if I did the right thing."

The Hokage looks really down about this. You try and reassure him.

Itachi eases up on his frown a bit as he looks up at you.

After a bit longer, you arrive at a large building. Among the falling snow you see a group of armored figures. The samurai of the Land of Iron. Itachi identifies your group for them, and they escort you inside. The summit itself takes place tomorrow, so you're shown to a room for you to stay the night in.

"If you two want to go see someone or look around, feel free." Itachi insists. "I can handle myself for an afternoon."

Neji looks like he's considering the offer, but knowing him, he won't say anything himself.

"Greetings." the man says. "My name is Mifune. I came to meet the Sixth Hokage, as I believe it will be his first time in the Land of Iron. May I come in?"

You see Neji activate his byakugan and give Mifune a once over, but he doesn't seem to take any issue. He deactivates it and introduces himself before deferring to the Hokage.

"It's nice to meet you, Mifune." the Sixth says as he shakes the man's hand. "I am Itachi Uchiha, the Sixth Hokage."

"A pleasure." Mifune replies. "I usually meet with all the new Kage as they come by. Please make yourselves at home, the view from the roof is always a sight, you can order food and the staff will bring it to your room, anything you need to be comfortable during your stay here. We don't want you to make any big decisions while in anything less than your best condition, after all. Now I know that as an Uchiha, there are those that would hold it against you, but I wanted to assure you that I will remain impartial and unbiased tomorrow. Just do your best."

"Thank you for your concern." Itachi responds. "I appreciate all of your efforts."

After chatting for a while, Mifune leaves. It's evening now.

"Since you two don't intend on leaving my side, perhaps we should all go somewhere?" the Hokage asks. "Surely you don't want to stay in this room the whole time?"

You figure that a look around couldn't hurt. The three of you decide to go see that view that Mifune mentioned. On the way, you all stop by the dining room to eat. A server brings out three plates, each with an impressive steak on it. It seems they really aren't skimping out on anything for their guests.

After eating, the three of you head up to the roof. From there you can see for miles in every direction, and see nothing that isn't covered in snow. It's a good view, but you'd be more impressed if you hadn't seen the like before.

You soon notice three other people on the roof. Two of them you recognize as Temari and Kankuro. The man with them must be their father, the Fourth Kazekage.

The Kazekage notices your group and groans. Despite his seeming reluctance, he approaches.

"Good to see you, Kazekage." Itachi greets. "I haven't seen you since we fought three years ago. I hope you're doing well."

"You know how I'm doing, Hokage." the Kazekage responds. "Your village is the one that decides that now."

The Kazekage seems to be upset. From what you've heard from Temari and Kankuro though, he may just be like that by default.

"Hey guys, it's been a while." you say, as you approach. "How have you been?"

"Hey, Kon." Temari replies. "We were just taking this opportunity to admire the snow. We don't get much of it in the desert, after all."

"Oh yeah, Shikamaru mentioned you and Neji helped take down Sasori." Kankuro adds. "Thanks for that. I wish I had the opportunity to fight him myself, but as long as he's gone that's enough for me. It was pretty weird at first getting Sasori's parts, but I've come to think it's appropriate. Now I can use his power to right all the wrongs that he committed in life."

Kankuro points to a scroll on his back.

The mention of Shikamaru reminds you.

"By the way, Shikamaru got promoted to Jonin this last month." you say, gauging their reaction.

"Huh, he didn't say that in his letter. It must have really been recent." Kankuro says.

Temari smirks and turns her head up. "Well it's about time. He's always slacking off. Maybe now he'll realize his potential. But I won't hold my breath."

Soon enough, the Kazekage finishes speaking to Itachi and he approaches.

"Temari, Kankuro. We're done here." the Kazekage tells them. "We're turning in for the night."

The three of them start to head down, but Kankuro stops and looks to you.

"Hey, this summit." he starts. "I don't think we'd have all this just to say we're going to work together and take down Akatsuki. Your village has already been sending people out to each village to address that. I think the Cloud must have had some other reason to get all the nation's leaders together at once. Maybe it's just me."

You think about what Kankuro said. It makes sense. The Raikage's declaration did seem sudden.

"If you say so." Kankuro replies. "Just know we'll have your back."

You say goodbye, and the Sand contingent heads back down into the building. Your group soon does the same, as it is getting late. You all head back to your room and get to sleep.

In the morning, you are all served breakfast in your room. After eating, you get ready and head to the assembly hall.

When you arrive, you find the room full. The other four Kage are all sitting in their seats, each with two bodyguards behind them. Mifune sits alone across from the Kage's table. As Itachi takes his seat, you take a look around. The Kazekage is here with Temari and Kankuro, The Tsuchikage is here with Kurotsuchi and a large man you haven't met. The Raikage is here with two ninja you haven't seen either, another dark skinned blonde man, and a light skinned blonde man, contrasting the rest of his group. You catch your first glimpse of the Mizukage. She is a woman with long brown hair in a ponytail. Behind her is a young man with glasses and sharp teeth and an older man with an eye patch.

Neji and the eye patched man glare at each other, while the Mizukage is the first one to comment on your group's arrival.

"So the Leaf sent a group of handsome young eye candy." she comments. "Too bad I'm in no mood to indulge."

"Everyone is here." Mifune announces. "Let the Five Kage Summit begin. Raikage, you have the floor."

You stay still in your spot behind the Hokage. You won't be having much say in this meeting, but you intend to pay close attention. The future relationships between all the villages could be determined here.

Besides, it would be a strategically sound move to take out the raikage (and possibly the Hokage, if they know about Taiyaki). The Disarray in those specific villages would make snapping up the Jinchuuriki easier.
