AVE SENATORES! I bring exciting news.

Firstly, I have been granted permission by the Administratum to begin using the e-herald named "Twitter". I can be found here: https://twitter.com/SenatusSimia.

Secondly, and of vastly greater import to this august body. By the grace of the Emperor and under his leadership and yours, I have the food fortune to inform you, the Senate of the People of Earth, that we have located our first Jump Point, a mere few weeks after the launch of our survey vessels.

My report follows:

21st October 1757 IVC: Acting on the orders of the Senate I have instructed the Militarum to begin the training and arming process to produce two new Mobile Infantry Battalions.

1st November 1757IVC: While our initial reports from the survey fleet were not promising (in particular, predictions that Luna would show reserves of Trans Newtonian Elements proved ill-founded), on this date the GEV Scipio II under Trierarch Qunitus Attius Hirpinius reported that it had successfully detected the presence of 30,462 tons of high-quality Duranium ore on the comet Reinmuth.

16th November 1757 IVC: While asteroids and planetary bodies continue to disappoint, comets appear to be good potential sources of minerals. The GEV Scipio I, under Trierarch Aulus Caristanius Arcadius, has located reasonable quantities of Duranium, Neutronium, Corbomite, Boronide and a small amount of Mercassium on the comet Chernyhk. These are at quality levels comparable with Earth.

18th November 1757 IVC: A date that shall be remembered for some time. GEV Scipio I discovered some small amounts of Mercassium, Corundium and Gallicite on the asteroid Klio.

However, this was hugely overshadowed by the report from our Astroharuspection Division, who have been monitoring the gravimentric readings being sent by the Decius class survey vessels. By combining these readings, they were able to pinpoint a region of space that further broad-spectrum gravitational sensor readings have confirmed contains a natural "near-wormhole", a subspatial artefact of the gravitational connection between Sol and another star. This point is close to the current orbit of Saturn and is shown on the system map that accompanies this report.

This presents an intriguing possibilty. Based upon our previous studies into Jump Point Theory, we already have the necessary technology to build a particle projection system capable of projecting enough energy into this point to open a stable wormhole to another solar system. Not only that, but due to the nature of these jump points, it is extremely likely that this other solar system possessed at least one exoplanet. And there is more - we predict that ALL star systems should contain similar "jump points".

In short, my Senators: we have potentially discovered the gate to the stars. All of space lies before us. In the name of the Emperor and of Humanity - we need only open the gate.

Your humble spreadsheet monkey awaits your instructions.

Send a probe through, that should be doable.

>>43907024
Probe it long and hard, like a servant boy.

Send through some sort of Scot. We stargate noaw

What is that game in the screenshot op?

After consulting with the Astrophilosophicae, I have determined that in order to traverse the Jump Point we will need to design and then research a Jump Engine, a specialised generator designed to produce the particle beam I mentioned in my report.

We would then need to design a craft to carry this Jump Engine. We currently have only one Shipyard untooled (it is currently undergoing expansion but could be brought into service with little effort).

As an additional note, they have explained to me that the Jump Engine will need to be designed for a specific mass and that the particle generator will, in some fashion I do not fully understand, utilise the mass of the ship to open the wormhole. The end result of this is that while it will be possible for a jump-capable craft to open the "hole" and carry other craft through, those craft will need to be of a lower mass than the jump ship.

That is Aurora, the game that /tg/ is playing in this thread (via me).

It's also known as "spreadsheets pretending to be a game" and "Dwarf Fortress in Space".
>>
Bippetty bumpetty boo.
>>
>>43907184
So have them do it then! Math is slave work
>>
>>43907184
>Aurora
It still doesn't support 1366x768?
>>
>>43908460
IIRC there is a "small" setting for the game window but it's nearly unplayable at low resolutions regardless.
>>
>>43907184
Focus on that then , unless there is something else pressing. Are the space etruscans getting uppity again?
>>
>try to download aurora
>It's too big for my laptop screen, I can't see the whole class creation screen and everytime I try to make a class it it glitches
Feels bad.

Based upon your instructions, Senators, I have brought in the assistance of Galicius and Gellici Engineering in producing a pair of Jump Drive engine designs - a 10SP Scout Jump Drive that can carry a ship of up to 2500 tons through the jump point, and a 20SP J5000(3-50) Military Jump Drive that can hold the wormhole open long enough to carry the jump ship and two more craft of up to 5000 tons through the Jump Point. I have re-tasked Spurius Pisentius to bring these designs to fruition.

I therefore present my continuing report.

The Scout Jump Engine was completed on the 13th December 1757 IVC, 5 days before the discovery of a number of small mineral deposits on Euphrosyne.

On 26th December, A second Jump Point was found in Sol, similarly close to the orbit of Saturn but in a different solar direction.

The first-day of 1758 IVC was a busy day with two events occurring at once. Firstly, a survey of Venus revealed a number of extremely large deposits of Neutronium, Tritanium, Boronide and Vendarite. Unfortunately they are all at extremely low quality levels, 0.1 of ideal, and therefore extracting them would be very slow.
Secondly, we lost a Centurion to a medical problem. His Garrison Battalion has been assigned to a different officer.

On the 19th January, Appius Clovius Fortunatus was discovered to have increased his Survey capacity due to his experience in our exploration wave. This was demonstrated by the discovery of a third Jump Point, further out from Saturn this time. Appius has been promoted to Navarch for his achievements.
In addition, our new Commercial Shipyard and Military Academy have been completed. On standing instructions regarding long-term aims, I have retasked the 70% of our industrial output that was assigned to these projects to the building of a new Research Center.

After such a surge of activity, the next few weeks were relatively quiet. Only on the 6th February did things begin to once more warm up, with the discovery of some quantities of Tritanium, Boronide and Uridium on Mars.
A day later, the first Cicero class Freighter was completed on Earth. The Navarch Manius Tremellius Cornutus was assigned to this new craft; a seemingly minor role, but a vitally important one for Earth's solitary mass transport vehicles.

Finally, on 9th February 1758 IVC, the G&G Engineering J5000(3-50) Military Jump Drive was completed.

Your faithful monkey awaits.

do we have that tech to build a hanger bay to carry ships?

Aside from the main techs we want to research hangers & tractor beams should be considered high priority targets as they open up a lot of ship design possibilities.
>>
>>43911197

We currently do not have docking or tractor technology.
>>
>>43906867
>People talking about Aurora.
Holy shit, never thought I'd see this. Best of luck to you guys on your quest.
>>
>>43910280
Make automines, start mining asteroids?
>>
>>43911662
I second the motion

Do we have mass driver technology if not that is the their and i believe last high priority specific technology we need.
if so I have a question for my fellow senators.
Should we consider building mass drivers?
>>
>>43912155
Yes. Mass drivers are very useful, as they transport minerals for free.
>>
Hmm, what are the settings for the game?

Here I'll copy paste what I said last time:

Start here:
http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php

Read ALL the tutorials. Unfortunately the wiki is currently down so prepare your anus, you'll have to go in dry.

Get the game here, this is the pre-packaged install that should allow you to run the game with a single click and not have to mess with various computer settings. (in theory) Don't forget to run as Administrator.

Danke.

Good Senators, I bid you welcome!

I have with me a portrait of our esteemed and well trusted adviser.

I took my hand at crafting a portrait of our adviser in one of our many eco-habitats, looking over a few notes from the previous senate meeting.
>>
>>43917799
Thanks, man.
>>
>>43917799
Ah, yes. Shell #12 certainly is coming on nicely, isn't it? I must remember to allow the grooming slaves an hour of restday as a reward.
>>
So what's next on the agenda? Interplanetary colonization is very important as populations grow at a rate limited by how much room they have to expand. And more than anything else what we need right now is people.
>>
>>43908460
Minimum resolution is 1280*1024.
The reduced windows size setting brings it to 1280*800 or so.
>>
>>43911662
No that's dumb, asteroids are shit and 99% of the time not worth it. Let the civilian sector open up mines there and tax them.
Better plant automines and mass drivers on planets.
>>
>>43923230
Expanding and colonizin, obviously
>>
>>43924774
So far all the planet surveys haven't found shit, though.

It's more godforsaken than Caledonia.
>>
>>43924786
Yes they have found shit.
Better investment than fucking asteroid mining, unless the asteroid mining module is researched.
>>
>>43924821
So far, all the comets have really good resource deposits whereas the only planetary deposits of note are on Venus, and they're such shite quality trying to extract them is going to be inefficient as hell.
>>
>>43924846
And if you put automines on asteroids or comets, you'll have to move soon after.
On Venus they'll stay for ages, and keep pumping minerals into the economy.
Also you can just wait for the civilian sector to build mines there and take minerals from them instead of taxes.
>>
Speaking of which, mining modules take like 5000 research points, right?
It'd be faster if we plonked down some automibes abd a mass driver on mars before we even start colonizing.
Also, shouldn't we start to que up some terraformers? Like 20 of them. And ship them to mars.
>>
Im up for colonizing mars, even if we start with robots.

Also we shoud get some Mass Drivers, on Terra, Mars and everywhere else
>>
Oh this thing is actually happening now.

Awesome!
>>
Yes, let's colonize mars. It seems despite a better yield we are still quite a way from mining asteroids and comets.
>>
>>43910280
My friends in the Clegus mining company, has asked me to conduct a more thorough research on the resources available at mars.
Therefore I suggest we send a probe to Mars immediately.
>>
>>43925528
We have the capacity to send a Survey Team to any planet to determine if there are any deposits missed by the orbital sensor array. I am informed that this is mostly of use on planets that already have some quantity of the Heavenly Elements.

To this end, then, if the Senate commands I will endeavour to gather a team of geological experts and a ship will be found to bring them to Mars.
>>
>>43925669
Sure why not
>>
>>43925669
I support this idea. Get a geology team or two going and send them out to luna and mars.
