Untangling yourself from the emotional web in your mind you head away from the submersible dock, the sensations from the merfolk take a bit of work to block out but you have more work to do. A couple of demons snicker quietly at you; each and every one of them would have taken the mermaid, her father’s power is on par with the lords so it would be a fantastic chance to move up in the world.


You’ve made your choice however and you don’t remember asking for, well anything, as part of your agreement with the giant merfolk leader. The fish beasts vanishing mysteriously even with Hestia’s scanners all over the ocean is a bit concerning and they way you see it there are a few ways to investigate this.

You find a drone that is floating around a bit too happily.

“Hestia please release the fish beasts, if they are active whatever is hunting them should appear,” you tell the drone.

“I feel that I should remind you that the creature that has been doing this has been avoiding my sensors,” Hestia says, she sends out all the fish beasts to resume normal operations.


You sit and wait, expanding your senses down into the water but away from the merfolk. The fish beasts carry sensor probes to make a simple network so that Hestia can scan the depths.

The fish beats are not attacked while they explore around the deeper water. Ominous shapes lurk the depths but none seem to care about the tiny morsels swimming ever deeper. With the help of the probes you make out several potential targets.

Research project: Hell Deeds
Research project: Attempt to detect the source of the Hell Deed that appears when a lord is slain.
My idea is to first fight a demon lord (maybe fifth circle) to determine how much energy to expend killing it. Next we teleport back to a room in Goblin City and kill the lord we fought via Deific Blast while Hestia is observing everything around us at max sensitivity.
Three things may happen: We find out something about the Hell Deeds, the Hell Deed doesn't materialize and/or we cannot detect anything but the Hell Deed apperas

Well these fish beasts are not getting attacking and the merfolk are very distracting, so you envision a power hyper advanced techno-magical sensor array with auto-replicating subsystems. Gathering your power and focusing on altering reality to suit your whims seems much easier than the first few times you’ve tried this.

You immediately realize that something powerful is interfering with your actions, twisting what you wanted to do into something different. You try to fight back and maintain the reality of what you wanted to create but whatever it is that is doing this is vastly more powerful that you and playfully overrides your desires.


Suddenly the creation is complete and rather than your sensor array you find a cream pie hurled into your face. Uproarious laughter can be heard for a few moments.

A glittering note with lettering written in a rainbow of colors is embedded deep in the cream.

The note reads, “Don’t mess with apple pies.”

You clean yourself off first not wanting to risk the cream actually being super glue and return to crafting your new sensors. This time to reinforce your will over reality you start by reshaping part of the outpost’s structure to create a housing for the new sensor package. The pain unit should connect to the outpost’s systems and still have the ability to drop the smaller autonomous self replicating sub-unts into the ocean. Your power washes over the housing and this time a pulsing mass of flesh and metal results.

Sickening squelching can be periodically heard as the strange living sensor array lays eggs which drop into the ocean and hatch into drones to explore the ocean with. Hestia notices that you’ve done something and completes her side of the link, her technopathy unifies the sensor with the outpost. A stream of information is exchanged as Hestia reprograms your new sensor to operate using taychons in addition to their psionic and elemental senses.


The new sensor swarm plunges into the depths of the ocean, slightly merging with the water, using elemental power to conceal its presence.


The swarm is much better at adapting to the ocean depths than the fish beasts and soon enough they have mapped out the area up to where the fish beasts have explored. You now know that the glimmering light belongs to a demon that uses the light to lure prey, the glint of the silvery skin was from a group of shark-like demons, and the currents are coming from a large aquatic lizard that feels more like a demon than a dragon.

You direct the swarm to attempt to be eaten, their small bits of metal and elemental power shouldn’t ruin their fleshy delectableness. They unmerge from their water elemental camouflage and swim towards their targets.

The angler demon ignores them and remains perfectly still waiting to a more substantive prey. A few members of the swarm attach themselves like parasites to the large demon to keep an eye on it.


The elemental control of the lizard proves to be too great for the swarm and thus the lizard keeps the swarm away from it.


The shark demons however have no trouble at all gorging on the passing swarm, soon after they consume the swarm Hestia is able to use her own power to capture them. Swarm probe embed themselves into each of the demon sharks for later. Scans of the interior of the sharks indicate that they do infact eat the fish beasts but only one fish beast’s remains are found inside. So like the merfolk these demons don’t seem to be the true culprit.


With these demons fully examined the swarm remelds with the ocean and heads deeper to find more creatures. The swarm locates a massive group of different lizard like creatures that flash with bio-luminescence to communicate, a giant four legged creature with a pointed snout and what looks like two humanoid figures engaged in battle.

The swarm once again releases its elemental power and emerges from its watery cover and then makes its way over to the glowing creatures. They flash bio-luminescent spots as they swim around in their group, they seemingly take no interest in the swarm until the distance closes at which point they snap up the easy prey. Inside the creature’s stomachs the swarm finds remains of unlucky demons but not any fish beasts.


The large demon with legs paddles through the ocean lazily, its open mouth just sucks in anything that dares get too close. The swarm gets to easily enter and scan the insides of the giant creature but once again there are no fish beasts inside. This particular demon seems to stay at this depth and is a bit further down than the fish beasts have traveled so far.


The humanoid figures on the other hand are unable to be approached, cataclysmic surges of water and vacuums tear through the water as the two creatures battle each other. Claws and tentacles lash out as they desperately attempt to murder each other. The swarm’s scans indicate that this purely a battle for dominance over this area and it will continue until one of the two dies. Tentacles as black as night surge upwards past the swarm and impale anything and everything they can and the corpses are drug back down to the raging battle to be used as fuel for horrible blood magics.

You break the technopathic link with the new fleshy sensory array and dive into the water yourself, the massive humanoids look like they are just the kind of prey you’re looking for. Or maybe not, but the tentacles could have been snatching fish beasts to use in their blood magic rituals. Manipulating water and gravity together allows you to propel yourself at incredible speed and before long you’ve rocketed past scores of demons to arrive at the titanic battle.


One of the massive creatures looks to be mad from not much more than water and bone, its massive claws are easily large enough to destroy entire ships. It uses jets of high pressure water to attack with, the pressure is enough to slice apart the oceans and leave trails of vacuum which collapse and send shockwaves throughout the area.


Its enemy is a massive creature made up of twisting tentacles that twist around the jets of water trying to constrict the other demon. The tentacles impale anything and everything it can to absorb the blood for magic, the ocean is a bloody haze around the demon. Jets of water meet blades of blood, and the cataclysmic results make it clear why any other demons stay as far from the two battling demons as possible. Common sense in the depths of this hellish ocean doesn’t apply to you however and you swim towards the two demons intent on killing both of them.

Reacting to your killing intent the tentacle demon attempts to impale you, its speed when impaling creatures is very fast and you can see why any fish beasts that it may have grabbed would appear to have just vanished.


The demon doesn’t count on you being strong enough to withstand the attack and launch your own counter attack. Griping the tentacle allows you to use one demon as a weapon to bludgeon the other with. It only works once as the tentacles immediately swarm over their foe in an attempt to constrict and crush it to death. Jets of pressurized water blast towards you as the demons grapple each other, but your control of water proves to be more powerful than the demon’s attack and the water passes you without hurting you.


The water ripples as the demons howl in pain when their claws tear into each other in their battle to separate. They turn slowly away from each other to face you, their minds full of hate and rage for your interference, from this point on the demons have come to an understanding that you need to die first.

The demons slowly shift through the water in an attempt to encircle you, one massive demon on each side of you. In a flash, the attacks are over.

Blood lifts slowly from the surface of your blade as it mixes into the water. The two demons swipe their claws through your afterimages that flicker in front of their bodies, but it’s already too late. One of the demons turns a dark shade of green; its former foe looks at it confused for a second as flowers sprout out of its body. Then the non-green demon’s eye turn white as it goes blind, no not just blind, all of its senses are destroyed in an instant. The massive tears in the demons’ chests don’t seem to bother them at all, so you need something more to finish this fight.


You spread out your domain to encompass the two giant demons, and do something fairly insane. You force the boundary of you domain to be absolute, nothing will enter or exit while you work. Water turns to steam and the blind demon flails around helplessly as the pair collapse to the bottom of your sphere of influence.

The pressure and heat builds within your domain as you convert the water into superheated plasma. The demons roast alive and you switch the flow of gravity so that the demons slide around to the top of your domain.

When even the solids suspended in the water turns to plasma and the flesh of the demons burns off despite their power, you know it is time to finish things.


You let your domain allow the water in and the plasma out. The resulting explosion rockets you and your demonic foes to the surface of the ocean in an instant.


The outpost rattles as exploded bits of flesh rain down.


You land gracefully on the fishing platform through the use of gravity and air manipulation to control your decent and keep burning flesh away from you. Unfortunately none of the sprouted flowers managed to survive the explosion.


Demons unfortunate enough to have been in the range of the massive shockwave are reduced to corpses and they rise slowly from the depths. Hestia protected those around the outpost from the force of the blast so now that the danger has passed demons and merfolk swim about collecting the chunks of cooked flesh.


The glittering of two large orbs catches your eye, but not as much as the woman holding them aloft over her head. Ayla has finally caught up to you after having put Nura to sleep in the new nursery your house has.


“No fair master I missed the whole thing,” Ayla teases you by keeping the orbs away from you, “but at least I found these pretty balls, I wonder what would happen if I gave then to Nura.”

Ayla looks at you expecting the gem, so you once more focus your domain and control over crystals to shape a diamond from pure Aether. Your deific power permeates the air around you as you work, layering layer after layer of the carbon with minimal impurities to generate a special colored diamond.

The gem radiates with an internal glow of pure mana which makes Ayla nearly drop the soul orbs as she stares with her usual slack jawed drooling face that she makes whenever she encounters a massive mana source. Rather than trying to eat the gem however Ayla just hands over the orbs and takes her crown off. Fire and gold swirl around the gem you’ve created as Ayla reforms the Djinnistan crown with the brilliant diamond serving as the centerpiece. You of course mix your power together with hers and help to reform the once simple symbol of office into a powerful artifact in its own right.


Ayla acquires a new artifact -

After placing the crown on to Ayla’s head once more her brilliant smile and loving embrace has you forgetting about the soul orbs for a moment.

I imagined it more like tentacles pouring out of the skeleton to form pseudomuscles, and a layer of bone forming over them to protect the tentacles.

Ayla’s changing magical structure seems to be resonating with the gem, it doesn’t seem harmful to her but you should probably keep an eye out anyways.

This ability allows you to generate a protective covering made from bone, by default the ability causes a thin layer of bone to cover all of your skin. Your rank in this ability allows for you to manipulate the bones into offensive components such as spikes or blades. Using this ability will rapidly drain nutrition and require you to eat more unless the generated bones are fully reabsorbed by your body. Higher ranks in this ability may have additional effects.


Tentacle generation: Rank 6
This ability allows you to grow tentacles from any part of your body to use as additional limbs. The tentacles are fully prehensile and are able to be created in various sizes to help in any situation. The tentacles themselves have gained the ability to carry any of your body’s fluids. Higher ranks in this ability may have additional effects.


When you eat the first orb you feel your skin grow harder and slowly turn whitish before reverting back to normal as your ascendant nature blocks the mutation, the second orb doesn’t cause such trouble but you know that you could sprout tentacles now if you needed to for some reason. For a brief moment it feels like these new powers are going to be absorbed deeper into you, but something is missing and your amulet grows warm.

With the power of the soul orbs fully absorbed you look down to the voice that’s been yelling at you to see another mermaid. She looks pissed and you see the same trident shaped protective amulet around her neck. She looks very different from Itsasne, bright red eyes and crimson patches of skin match her long red tentacles. Rather than half fish she appears to be half octopus.


“Well it’s about damn time,” the foul mouthed mermaid yells at you while cracking her neck, “so you’re Gareth right?”

“That’s right,” you tell the mermaid, you can feel Ayla pushing you towards the ocean.

“It’s a mermaid master, are you going to take her too?” Ayla whispers, “We totally should.”


“Well are you going to stand up there all day or are you going to come down to talk?” The mermaid irritably asks.


At Ayla’s insistence you drop down to the water’s surface, for the pair of you water is solid enough to stand on. The mermaid looks you up and down intently and then does the same to Ayla, her nostrils flare as she takes in your scent.


“Well no wonder that ditz failed in her mission, what the hell was father thinking sending her after someone with this many women already,” the mermaid says, “Let’s cut to the chase here, since my retarded sister decided to become a spawning pit fixture you’re stuck with me for the alliance marriage. You learn that she is pissed at her sister not really at you or this situation and she’ll do her duty in trying to entrap you in blood relations. She has a different mother that’s why she is an octopus instead of a fish they have the same father though. More importantly you learn that the merfolk lord has no male offspring and their army’s position is much worse off than he gave the impression of, their people live in caves tunneled out of corpses, bone and ice.

You probe for the merfolk lord’s name, which makes the mermaid laugh; you soon find out that she doesn’t know and her father doesn’t tell anyone. You find her name though, Rufina. The reason she is mad at her sister is rather simple, Itsasne was to be the political marriage sacrifice, while Rufina was named as the merfolk lord’s heir. At least that how things were supposed to go before Itsasne messed everything up.

Rufina sighs as you dig deeper, you find that octopus halves are fairly rare and she was bulled relentlessly as a child. She didn’t despair however, she took their actions as proof that they were lesser beings and trained with all her might to be a warrior. Her dedication earned both her father’s affection and the eyes of a powerful merfolk aquamancer. Their marriage was meant to be the foundation for the next generation but he went and died during the war in the fourth circle of hell before Rufina’s fist spawning. Brokenhearted and bitter she threw herself at the enemy ignoring all else, until you showed up and her father sealed their puddle.


“And so you see I fucking hate you for denying me my death alongside the love I’ve forgotten,” Rufina puts the amulet back on, but at this point you’ve seen everything he mind has to offer, “duty comes first though, so here I am.”


You are fairly sure Rufina would be crying as much as Ayla is beside you right now if her eyes could make tears.


“I need to talk things over with everyone I already have a responsibility to, but I would like for you to come and meet them all at least,” you tell Rufina.

The room is silent waiting for Evangeline, Nantosuelta and Tslah. Then to your surprise Hestia brings in Izulu and the Giant Lizard as well.

With everyone gathered the situation is explained, and the girls make their voices heard on the matter. Overwhelming defeat for the ‘No’ side, only Evangeline said no. The giant lizard and Izulu want to keep Rufina because she might be food, the twins suggest several ways how to use tentacles and the looks they give you when you show that you can make tentacles now, well it makes you feel your future’s broken pelvis. Nana doesn’t care, you can really tell from the way she possessively holds you with her claws and by the end of this makeshift meeting you see that Evangeline is thinking more about how to defeat dragons than a new girl arriving. Ayla is totally behind keeping Rufina she reminds you again.


“You know I can just stay here and be like a political prisoner,” Rufina tells Evangeline, she seems significantly mellower from the bracelet working its magic, “your ‘boyfriend’ doesn’t have to fuck the ‘fish girl’ at all.”

“I-I, I wasn’t thinking that,” Evangeline panics a bit, “it’s more like multiple partners is weird right?”

Pretty much everyone else shrugs, they don’t seem to care.

“Rufina is correct,” Hestia states, “I will make her some quarters, just by her living here the alliance will be secure by the merfolk’s terms.”


“Well then everything is decided and everyone knows what is happening, so I’m going to hell,” you try to escape the gathering, it takes forever to get away from the girls however. The twins are particularly aggressive and want you alone as soon as the babies are born. Evangeline is pensive and bashful, she didn’t want to insult Rufina and is confused as to why everyone seems fine with it, why she is starting to feel fine with it.


Before you leave you see that despite all the ruckus Rufina now has a slight smile. You don’t know if you should be worried about that as you use your magic to step across the planes.

Armies continue to rise and fall without greater meaning and the harvest of souls is without end. You exert your domain to keep a bit a peace and quiet around you as you look over the battlefield. A massive patch of ice still remains from where the aquatic army sealed themselves away. With Rufina in place all you have to do is finish off the armies here and that deal is done. At long last you’ve made it to your destination and nothing is going to get in your way now.


And then you smell the faint scent of a freshly baked apple pie.

What class of enemy would be killed by a 1 mana or 1 worship Deific Blast? What might the minimum mana or worship we could have used to kill the wervyn queen?

It’s not that I don't mind sharing, I mostly just don't give them so you can't reverse engineer enemies’ health, stats and abilities, and numbers are becoming very huge. One mana at rank twenty six, plus prior worship empowerment means you are already above one hundred thousand for damage output. Burning worship for the attack uses an entirely different much higher scale and probably shouldn’t be used unless you want to exterminate everything.

Your power usage was already overkill at the time due to the cosmic dragon modifiers.
It you didn’t go deific the wyvern could have lived through that attack, now it would have been annihilated with just the mana expenditure.
Tl;dr - Unless you plan to battle gods or the proto-dragons 1 mana will kill the thing.
