You are Urist Twelfthbay, the moe personification of Dwarf Fortress, and you are a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. Right now, you're grimly keeping your balance on an explosion-propelled space rock that's hurtling through the cluttered hyperdimensional void at cataclysmically unsafe speeds.

Praying to Armok that you won't crash into anything hard enough to turn you all into chunky meat sauce would be futile, since your plan to arrive at your destination does, in fact, involve crashing into it hard enough to turn you all into chunky meat sauce. Heck, the very act of STOPPING your hollowed-out asteroid REQUIRES that you crash into something with enough force to turn you all into chunky meat sauce, while steering to the left or right requires that you detonate one of the munition piles cobbled together on either side of your makeshift vehicle.

And here you are, riding this deathtrap to the nearest stranded adventurer, who's probably just sitting on a floating island not that much larger than your hollowed-out asteroid. You ARE intent on helping her- although now that you think about it, rescue missions normally fail if the rescuers accidentally vaporize their target and her immediate surroundings upon landing.

... see, THIS is why you try to avoid working with people who both agree with your suicidal dwarfy plans AND have the power to make your plans a horrific reality.

Your awed stargazing is rudely interrupted when a fist-sized piece of debris smashes into the 'ground' a few feet away, making you jump.

"Get in cover, idiot!" Tiff roars from somewhere underneath your feet. "We got incoming!"

Another rock nearly takes off your head as you dive down into the hollowed-out asteroid, landing in a main chamber of sorts. Inside, the screwy 'gravity' is strangely stable, unaffected by your high speeds, and there's a twisted sort of normality going on. Doomgirl's got her face up against a hole in the wall, as excited as a car-riding dog faced with an open window, while Tiff continues bashing her Engineer aspect's trademark wrench against the wall, her expression grim.

What immediately grabs your attention is how there's a big gaping hole where the back wall should be, allowing you an unobstructed view of the hyperdimensional void and the madly-whirling stars in the 'sky.' Your summoned dwarves, of course, continue mining out the Seganium like there's nothing strange about this at all.

"We lost a good chunk of the asteroid when the main thrusters went off," the Team Fortress says without preamble (although you can't see how ANYONE could call a haphazard pile of one-time-use explosives "main thrusters" with a straight face), yelling over the roaring winds. "And as if that wasn't enough, we're off-course!"

"Oh FUCK yeah!" Doomgirl roars. "More monsters to play with!"

You scurry over to a hole in the wall and peer out, your blood running cold. A pair of void sharks- pitch-black, blank-eyed, and filled with more teeth than you've got problems- are undulating through the void and gaining on your ride, drawn by the mutilated corpse of one of their own that's still just- sort of sitting on the roof, attracting every predator in the vicinity with the scent of blood.

Crap.

>[X] [SHOVE OFF!]

"They're huge. I want to kill them," Doomgirl states like it's the most reasonable thing in the world, twitching sporadically in what you now know to be excitement. To your growing alarm, she shoves the barrel of a particularly nasty-looking weapon into the window, the grizzled marine giggling like a schoolgirl. "Let's go fight them!"

We don't know if they even KNOW that we're here, you retort, shoving aside Doomgirl's gun (and ignoring her warning growl). For all you know, they were drawn by the noise, or the bloody corpse attached to the hood of your ramshackle rock car, or-

((Or Arfoire sent them,)) Neptune interjects cheerily, the goddess's voice echoing out from somewhere inside you. ((She's always like, 'monsters rule!' and crams them into CDs and stuff! She's gotta catch a better hobby!))

"The bloody corpse attached to our /what/?!" Tiff whirls on a completely unrepentant Doomgirl. "I thought you were going to get rid of that!"

You roll your eyes and leave them to their brewing argument, clambering up onto the 'roof' before they even know you're gone- although you need a moment to get your bearings (and, you know, not plummet to your death). And wasn't Neptune going to NOT talk whenever Doomgirl's around?

((It's okay! I don't think she remembers who I am just by my voice alone!)) the representative personification of Sega stage-whispers. ((And even if she does, she can't hurt me when I'm in you!))

... yeah, fat lot of help that's going to be when she rips YOU to shred. Filing that under 'shit to deal with later,' you dash over to the bloody void shark corpse and give it a /shove/, praying that its kind is cannibalistic. With most of its mass depleted, the monster's body doesn't need a whole lot of force to get going, spinning off the asteroid with surprising ease. (You make a note to yourself NOT to jump too high when your ride's moving).

For once, your prayers are answered. Immediately, one of the void sharks veers off to intercept the bloody meal, misshapen maw tearing into the cadaver with speed borne of either gnawing hunger or horrific gluttony. Too bad the other void shark doesn't even /look/ at the free meal, and you're reasonably certain that its eyes narrow at the attempt to distract it.

((Jeepers! Did you turn this one down at prom or something?))

... you really wish she'd just let you stare down rapidly oncoming death in peace and quiet.

You hear Tiff clamber up besides you. "Did it work? Are they gone or SHIT!" she hisses, eyes wide.

"What?" Doomgirl growls, clambering up to stand next to your other side. "What the hell's wrong with yoooOH!" Of course SHE'D sound happy.

Almost contemptuously, the swimming monstrosity rams its nose into the asteroid, nearly ruining your footing and VERY narrowly avoiding ruining the asteroid's trajectory- although a large chunk of space rock goes spinning off. You're going to have to deal with this, and deal with this /now/, other

Tiff's costume seems to swirl into multicolored lights before settling on some sort of Soldier's uniform, but you stop her right quick- you all need to save ammo, because knowing THIS place, you'll have to fight some jerk or other the moment you reach your destination!

She nods tersely and swaps back into her Engineer's outfit, and you turn to Doomgirl to tell her the same- except 1) she's no longer standing next to you, and 2) there's absolutely no need.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYTVIWnj6sg

"More for me!" Doomgirl howls, already leaping off the edge of your hollowed-out asteroid. "Come to me, big mama!" Not expecting its prey to be so goddamned stupid, the void shark rears back out of instinct instead of snapping the marine out of the air, caught between surprise and murderous intent.

That gives your ally just enough time to smash its snout with her fists.

The impact actually snaps the monster's head to the side, but it's pulled back as Doomgirl actually /grabs it by the throat/ and continues pummeling the void shark with her free fist, the damage all out of proportion to her smaller size.

"Rip!" she roars, punching out a tooth. "Tear!" Her fist plunges into the flesh, mere void-hardened armor plating apparently no match for those god hands, and the monster screams in enraged pain, thrashing in midair. Right- this IS the adventurer who demolished the /last/ void shark from the inside out, after all.

((All in favor of just pointing her at Arfoire, say aye!))

For once, you're sort of in agreement with Neptune on this.

((I mean, look at her!)) she adds in amazement. ((She's kicking that void shark around like it's some sort of puppy! This should count as animal cruelty!))

... oh. Oh!

Struck by a sudden thought, you dash forward, ignoring Tiff's surprised yelp as you pass by her turrets (and Neptune's frantic questions). Muttering feverishly to yourself, you pull out some of the spare items you'd had lying around your inventory, look up to Doomgirl and the void shark's battle, gauge their relative positioning, and start slapping various mechanisms and parts together, willing yourself to hurry up and praying that you chose the right location-

It's done. No time to second-guess yourself. You scream out to Doomgirl, telling her to chuck the void shark towards you- and although it takes a few moments, she actually /does/, punching her way around the doomed monster before bashing it from behind and propelling it your way.

Luck smiles upon your harebrained scheme, which reinforces your belief that she's both blind and dumb.

"Hey! We're not done yet!" Doomgirl roars, casting around in vain for her opponent. "Where'd it go, dammit!?"

Ignoring her for the moment, you unhook the cage from your trap and nearly buckle under the weight; only your allies' intervention, arms around your shoulders, stops you from getting crushed by the darn thing.

"Mother of god, don't tell me," Tiff mutters, squinting down at the cage in your shaking arms. Giddy with exhilaration, you put it down and flip your braids back over your shoulder, a feral, toothy grin on your face.

Yeah, you confirm, slapping the side of the impossibly small cage containing the impossibly large creature. You dig through your pockets and come up with a prepared meat biscuit of some sort, shoving it in between the bars. Once the training process ends, this one's going to be all yours.

Isn't that right, Carp?

((What?! Can't you at least give it a better name?)) Neptune whines. ((Like... Uristnep! Or Nep Jr.!))

Nope, not nearly fearsome enough. You're sticking with Carp.

((Awww, Uriiiist-))

For all its bark AND bite, the void shark doesn't take very long to train. TAMING it will be harder and will require just a little bit more time, but that's really not going to be a problem if you're going to be living in the hyperdimensional void for an extended period of time.

... either way, you're a little hesitant to let it out of its cage. Most animals sort of wander around the fort and its exterior, but if THIS thing wanders off into the void, you can't exactly waltz up there and drag it back to your 'territory.'

Doomgirl's still sulking. "I wanted to see what it drops," she grumps, crossing her arms in a manner that WOULD be petulant, if not for the countless layers of blood caked on her body.

"Later, later," Tiff soothes. She turns to you, adjusting her goggles. "'Fraid we've got a bigger problem right now. First, we're kinda off-course, and second, this baby right here-" she pats the surface of the asteroid "-can't take much more punishment. Any more collisions like that and we won't HAVE a ride."

Aren't asteroids supposed to be a little less flimsy?

"This one's got more holes than a honeycomb, Urist," the Team Fortress shoots back. "It ain't exactly the epitome of sturdy, if you catch my drift. It's a miracle if we'll still be able to steer this thing!"

... well, looks like you've got a decision to make.

"This was a terrible idea," Tiff grumbles, squinting down at the floating island.

What's she talking about? This was a GREAT idea.

Doomgirl sniffs. "It was a shit idea," she grumbles, still sore about her stolen kill.

Oh, get off it already! There'll be plenty more things to kill in the future, you'd stake your life on it.

Tiff points down to the island, where the thinnest sliver of a shaking and crying adventurer- Thravar- can be seen from the thicket of trees she'd hid herself in. "Doesn't look like she's willing to come out to ME."

Better than slamming into an island at full speed, ain't it? This way, you actually managed to /park/.

((Yeah! Don't listen to them, Urist! This was a great idea!))

... oh gods, now you're convinced it WAS a terrible idea.

Well, okay, look- strapping Carp onto the asteroid worked out better than you'd thought. Trained animals don't pull things back in your fortress, and the void shark /had/ been reluctant, but you'd managed to jury-rig a way to do it, mostly through liberal application of brute force and more Seganium threads.

That, and getting Carp to start moving, was the /easy/ part. The HARD part was getting your void shark not to go after every living creature it came across. Like other void sharks! And those darn will-o'-wisps. And, if Doomgirl gets too close, human meat.

... and other adventurers. Like Thravar, who you came here to save and instead cornered using an asteroid /bigger/ than the floating island she'd been camping on, and also a monster she knows is REALLY BAD NEWS.

(Cont.)
>>
>>43941442
"Go away!" Thravar yells- her shaking voice is a little deeper than you'd imagined. And even at this distance- you can't even see her, just the glimpses you catch when the void shark stops snuffling at the trees, straining at the leash- you can't stop feeling like your skin's crawling. "Leave me alone! I'm sick and tired of this- this horrible, horrible place! I've been fighting for days on end, and I can't take it anymore!"

You take another look around the island she's been camped on. It's peppered with the yellowed white bones of what must have been her minions- they're mostly humanoid, and they're all decaying at a startling rate, slowly sinking into the ground as you watch, leaving behind nothing but rapidly-fading fantasy-style armor. A few scraps of flickering light are all that remain of her opponents, MORE of those darn will-o'-wisps that nearly claimed Mojang's life when you first arrived.

The void shark snaps its jaws at the trees, and you hear the adventurer scrabbling as she backs deeper into cover. "Stop that! Stop poking at me! Leave me alone! I don't want to come with the likes of /you/!"

((Aww, she's just scared, Urist. Let me talk to her!)) In your head, Neptune puffs herself up in pride. ((I'll sort her out lickety-split!))

You glance over at Doomgirl, half-expecting her to say something, but she remains uninterested in the proceedings.

... right now, you just sort of want to go home.

[ ] [SHOUTING MATCH] You're not going down there- she can hear you fine from up here. Have all of you try convincing Thravar to come with you.

Oh yeah, I'll second adding therapist peek to my previous (not sure which one out of >>43941479 and >>43941490)

Oh damn. THIS PLEASE.
>>
>>43941540
You know what, I'm okay with this. As long as we still check Therapist for Carp's info.

Oooo, we can have Mojang go talk her down. Mojang is good with that type of stuff!

Right, gonna have to wrap the thread up here, since it's getting pretty late! It looks like, uh, [X] [COMBINE THE ISLANDS] wins the vote, so we'll (somehow) pick up with that next time! Gods help us all, especially me!

Next thread ought to be on SUNDAY, 12/6, at about 9:30-ish pm EST! As always, updates will be on https://twitter.com/BlorpQuest, and questions can go here or ask.fm/BlorpQuest.

Thanks for participating, guys, and hope you enjoyed it! Catch you next time!
>>
>>43941540
Shark can't eat her if the island is strapped to the asteroid!
>>
>>43941689
What happens when a character's game updates? Are the changes gradual, or what? Was wondering how they were affected/perceived.
>>
>>43941689
Bye bye Blorp thanks for the threads as always
>>
>>43941689
It's okay blorp. We all know about your hard work. We love it.
...now I kinda worried. Is with EVERY crazy idea we get MORE AND MORE NEPTUNIZED?!
>>
>>43941689
>>43941712
Also wow this island is gonna be the Tree Hat to their Ogir Place, isn't it.
>>
>>43941689
hehehe. Now this feels like dorf fortress!
>>
>>43941712
It depends on the type of change! If it's really drastic, like a sequel or a spinoff, or even a big update, then it'd probably kick in the next time that adventurer goes and clears a dungeon, gaining an upgrade.

Urist is sort of an outlier, since a lot of her changes affect the dwarves' quality of life and are more incremental (updates that pop very rarely). In her case, it's more gradual, and on top of that, her dungeon-clear upgrades have been utilities and stuff like that.

>>43941719
It's only certain kinds of actions that cause Neptunization, and a lot of them are related to combat! Just acting on a dumb Neptune idea has a much, much, much lower chance of causing Neptunization.

Night guys!
>>
Say, isn't this the first time we've succeeded in taming ANYTHING?
>>
>>43941811
and a bloody void shark of all things! On an Asteroid! In the Hyperdimension!
And I like this anon's dorf fortress fluff entry on it.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder(ed)

So still can cause it.

If we go full Nep, do we become one with her or is she our new onee-chan?
>>
>>43941830
I want to do dangerous things to it.
>Carp's heart has been replaced with an Uberheart
>Its wounds have been stitched together with seganium thread!
>Its eyes shine with a lambent glowstone light, and its touch withers and weakens
>Beware the rockets that accompany its horrible breath!
>>
So, any ideas about what game Thravar is?
>>
>>43942035
The "Stop poking me!" thing is from StarCraft or something, right?

(...Huh, my phone auto corrects 'Starcraft' to 'StarCraft'. Interesting.)
>>
>>43942084
Warcraft

Thrall+?
>>
>>43942099
Varian?
>>
>>43942108
>>43942099
Also on second thought, the decaying minions fit the pattern of Warcraft's corpse decay.

So yeah seems to fit.

Incoming PAULDRONS.
>>
>>43942099
You tell me, the only RTS I've ever invested any time into is Age Of Empires and even more so it's Star Wars themed spinoff.
>>
>>43942119
Would Starcraft and Warcraft be the same person or separate entities?
>>
>>43942134
I wonder if you could go as far as to group all the games under Heroes of the Storm as one character.
>>
>>43942134
Probably separate.

HOTS would be a collective child/pupil of Blizzard franchises.

I think people will be plenty happy that a drawanon is present.

drawing prompts
>void shark with reins attached to vague asteroid shape, caption: "Taming Successful!"
>Urist unleashes THE NEP! Puts on a Nep mask and pulls out Nep's giant sword
>Mojang sitting in front of the Sharicite, possibly an enchantment table beside her. "I wonder what Onee-chan is doing?"
>>
Readan through archives, wondering why didn't ask for a beard for the Sharicite from Blanc when delivered it
>>
>>43943987
Blanc can't even give herself boobs.
>>
>>43943987
That is an interesting point, but as >>43944008 points out, it may or may not have been within her authority, or rather something that can't be done for money alone.

That said, we are currently in an EXTREME SITUATION, and Histoire can "fix" adventurers, right?
>Urist, I estimate that it will take me 3 more days to get your party out if I do that, is it really that impor-
>YES, A BEARD IS IMPORTANT THANK YOU
>>
>>43944008
But she's a CPU/Force of Nature, Dorf-chan's just an NPC/a puddle of water or something.
A puddle's easier to muddle than a Force of Nature to force a change.
Or something more poetic than that.
>>
>>43944057
Ooh, we've met Histoire?
Hehehe, I wonder how that went.
What about Legacy of Kain-tan?
>>
>>43944072
Blorp is being careful about how many characters he's adding, and doesn't want to add any more from requests.
>>
>>43944088
Aww.
I bet Kain-chan would have been the most adorable murdering psychopathic magnificent bastard.
>>
>>43944159
you could say the same for many games.

Breath of Fire-chan and Monster Rancher-chan might be a bit redundant with Rokko around, though.

Either way, we don't want TOO many squeenix and capcom titles.
>>
>>43944215
I want Ico-chan.
If I can't have a sequel, let me at lest have an imaginary moe personification.
;_;
>>
>>43944333
The sword of "pinpoint where to go" might be pretty useful for figuring out who's a clone.

I don't think Blorp's thrown a company-specific adventurer at us before, so that might be more likely. Level 5 would be....interesting....
>Sticks every single mundane object into Urist's weapon
>A piece of meat, mushrooms, a few logs, pints of alcohol, dirt
>It STILL gets stronger
>How did you DO that!?
>Oh, it's just like a puzzle, and every puzzle has an answer!
>>
>>43944413
Are we talking about the same Ico?
>>
>>43944478
dude, what comes after Ico chronologically, but was made first?
>>
>>43944495
>>43944478
...or maybe Ico was made before, and I just didn't know. Point still stands; I'm talking about Shadow of the Colossus.
>>
>>43943695
That's not drawn by me, it's been posted several times on /nepgen/ and that's where I found it.
>>
>>43944971
Oh.
then nothing special WILL happen, unless you've got some shark taming write-ins

anybody can pickup on those draw prompts, anyway.

With Urist being neptunized, does it mean that she knows what it feels like to be nepped from inside?

Why is there no Noire in this series? There are only 15 mentions of Noire in the whole thing so far, compared to Vert's 60, Blanc's 130, and Neptune's 155. Only one case of Noire actually /doing/ something, the rest being just mentions of her.
>>
>>43952342
Because Neptune is a filthy attention-whoring slut who's been stealing all of Noire's screentime.

Noire may be in Doomgirl's head. If not her, someone, at least.
