You prepared yourself for this, but it's daunting nonetheless. You stand in a room that seats the five people that sit at the top of the ninja world.

The Sixth Hokage. The Third Tsuchikage. The Fourth Kazekage. The Fourth Raikage. The Fifth Mizukage.

The five ninja leaders sit at a U-shaped table, each with their bodyguards standing directly behind them. Across from the table, the host Mifune sits alone. He has just given the Raikage the floor, and you listen intently.

"By this point, we all know of the threat Akatsuki poses." the Raikage begins. "The Leaf has been attempting to create joint operations between villages in order to take Akatsuki down. Now, I understand that we will all likely not rest until Akatsuki is defeated. Given that, I will ignore the use of Akatsuki's services by the other villages, and Akatsuki's composition of ninja from all of your own villages. The only known tailed beast that remains out of Akatsuki's grasp is the eight tails, am I correct?"

As all of the other Kages nod, the Raikage shoots Itachi a glare before continuing.

"I have no doubt that we can defeat Akatsuki. But I have also looked at the long term. The military power of the five ninja villages has drastically declined after losing their Jinchuuriki. The villages that retain Jinchuuriki will have a significant edge. Though I admit that includes my own, it was merely circumstance. Were there a village that kept a Jinchuuriki from Akatsuki in secret, they could be considered as intentionally attempting to throw off the balance of power. Say for instance, if a village gained possession of a tailed beast in without the knowledge of the other villages."

You think you know where this is going. The Mizukage has been burning a hole into Itachi with her glare, and you doubt it's due to his good looks.

The Mizukage has come to me with evidence that the three tailed beast was sealed not by Akatsuki, but by the Leaf! And unsurprisingly, the shifty eyed Uchiha refuses to tell us of his own volition! So how about now, Hokage? Do you admit it? Did you seal the three tails into one of your own villagers to get another Jinchuuriki?"

Every eye in the room is on Itachi. You could cut the tension with a knife. After a lengthy silence, the Hokage responds.

"I did approve of the operation to seal the three tails into one of my own villagers." Itachi admits. "As you may know by now, we lost our own Jinchuuriki many years prior, and had no way of directly thwarting Akatsuki's plans. We took the three tails in order to put a stop to Akatsuki's ambitions. Nothing more, nothing less."

As Itachi is speaking, you see both Neji and the eye patched man from the Mist turn suddenly and look about in seeming alarm, before returning warily to their positions.

As Itachi finishes, the Raikage gets ready for a rebuttal.

Neji may have noticed something. With your training to use Nature chakra, you may be able to sense whatever it is that he saw. You stand perfectly still and gather Nature chakra. As you do so, the Raikage goes on.

"We cannot simply take you at your word." the Raikage responds. "You already have covertly entered the Water Country and taken their tailed beast. The Leaf is currently the village with the greatest manpower. If you were to accumulate Jinchuuriki, you would easily be able to force the other villages to comply with any of your demands. The Sand is already a victim of this. Kazekage, surely you want to be in control of your own village's affairs! We cannot let the Leaf gain too much power!"

The Kazekage is silent for a bit before reacting.

"I've had enough of tailed beasts and Jinchuuriki." he states. "They've brought me nothing but grief. If they didn't exist, my wife and son would still be alive and happy. My son would never have become a threat to my village. I may be a dog of the Leaf, but if that's what it takes to never have a tailed beast set foot in my village again, then I will bear it."

You finish gathering Nature chakra and enter Sage Mode. You feel for chakra around you. Beyond the sixteen sources in this room, you feel various small sources of chakra, likely the samurai guards. You also feel another large source of chakra, but it's a bit strange. Like it almost blends in to the ambient chakra in nature. That one is hard to track, but it feels like it's far below you and moving away. Far enough down that it should be underground even.

You open your eyes. The Raikage is about to speak again.

At that, Itachi suddenly stands up and puts his hat back on.

"I apologize, but some urgent business just came up." the Hokage says the the room. "I need to return to my village immediately."

"Where do you think you're going?" the Raikage shouts at Itachi. "Nothing has been resolved! You think you can just leave at your whim? If you walk out of here, then you are turning your back on any hopes of this issue being resolved diplomatically!"

Ignoring the Raikage's protests, Itachi leaves the room with Neji in tow. You begin to follow, and see Kurotsuchi and the Tsuchikage looking at you with disappointment.

"Even after learning of the three tails, I thought we'd be able to talk this out reasonably." the old man tells you. "But it seems your superiors don't really care about inter-village relations after all.."

With that, you chase after Itachi and Neji. The three of you immediately start heading back to the village at the fastest pace the Hokage will set.

"If that was an Akatsuki spy, then it would be ideal for them to attack while we are still gone." Neji says, as you all run. "We have to return as quickly as possible."

Over several days, the three of you head back to the Leaf as fast as possible, with little rest.

As you approach the village, you can see smoke rising. As you suspected, the Leaf is under attack. Before the three of you can draw any closer however, several figures step out in the road in front of your group. They all seem to be ninja. A man with half his head wrapped in bandages and a scar on his chin walks to the front.

"Long time no see, Itachi." the man says. "Or should I say, 'Lord Hokage'?"

"Danzo." the Hokage pants, still tired from the travel. "I hoped I'd never see you again."

"We should make quick work of him." Itachi begins to say. Before he can continue, Neji interrupts.

"Lord Hokage, he has a sharingan!" Neji alerts him. "And his arm... is covered in them!"

"What?" Itachi gasps in disbelief. "You were missing an eye and arm when you were thrown in prison!"

"Indeed I was." Danzo replies. "It is so good to have loyal followers. They kept them safe for me. I then could get them back and use Kotoamatsukami to manipulate the memories of the guards and those who would read my mind."

"Wait... Kotoamatsukami?" Itachi stammers. "You have Shisui's eye?"

"And quite a useful eye it is." Danzo responds. "Once I eliminate you, I can use it to convince everyone in the village to follow me. I can rebuild it stronger than ever. This eye will perform a far greater service with me than with Shisui."

You see the Hokage shake with rage. You've never seen him show much emotion at all, but now his anger is clearly evident. He pulls his vial of pills out and swallows the four pills he has left all at once.

"Kon, Neji. go to the village." Itachi insists. "I am going to kill him myself."

The Hokage intends to take on Danzo and all his followers alone.

You're a bit hesitant to let the Hokage fight alone. He could probably beat all of them but he's tired from the trip. It would be better to leave someone to help.

You nod, then take off past the group of ninja unopposed. They seem to be focused on the Hokage alone.

On the way you summon Sarujizo, anticipating a fierce battle. You will likely need Sage Mode. As Sarujizo gathers Nature chakra in his mask form, you can feel yourself transforming. Soon enough, you arrive at the village and sense out for chakra. There are a number of strong sources, many of them likely locked in combat.

From what you can tell, there are three major areas you could intervene.

At one in the center of the village, there are a few chakra signatures fighting a larger one.

At another in the West, there is a lone large charka signature with several smaller ones moving away from it, and fighting other chakra signatures.

And in the East, there are two large chakra signatures fighting one on one.

There are several other sources of chakra going around, but none that are immediately recognizable as enemies. You have to decide where to help quickly.

The West seems like it's the place that needs your help the most. You head there as fast as you can.

When you arrive, you find a number of giant animals rampaging, destroying all the buildings in sight. All of them have a spike though their heads, and their eyes are ringed and purple. Just as the Rinnegan was described.

"Kon, have you come to assist?" you hear from next to you. It's Shino. "Tenten is using her space time ninjutsu to help evacuate, and Haku is likely with Ino right now. I'm glad you came along. Most of the chunin here can hardly scratch these creatures, and they aren't letting up. We need to take down the summoner."

Shino points to a figure standing atop a building. One that the giant animals are taking measures to avoid. It's a woman with orange hair and piercings. She is wearing an Akatsuki cloak and has purple ringed eyes. No doubt about it. This is one of the bodies of Pain that Lord Jiraiya talked about. She looks in your direction and summons another giant creature.

Your fight to defend to Leaf village is about to begin.
