"Still one week late edition"

Hello and welcome back to Mortal Kombat Konquest! When we last left our protagonist, he was trekking through the Netherrealm with his companions and the newly-acquired skull on search of the trail of the entity that will, if not stopped, destroy all of reality. Having met his old ally, Meat, the five of them travelled to the Prison of Souls where the skull's directions have unfortunately just taken a turn for the worse...

"No, no, no!" the skull cries. "It's not here! It's not here! Turn me around, I need to look!"

The saurian turns the skull this way and that, but the skull's despair continues.

"What are you talking about?" Korbin asks.

"My body! My body isn't here! It's supposed to be here!"

Otiak turns the skull towards his face. "Wait a minute, you only led us here because you believed your body was here?"

"Well, not exactly! We were both going to get what we wanted--I would get my body, and you would get your way into the prison! Although, there is one small detail I... well, I'll give it to you straight, since we're here and all, but--"

Suddenly, a cracking noise is heard as glowing fissures in the black ground in front of them open up. Figures with dark skin and burning eyes emerge, carrying weapons such as staffs, swords and axes. Their skin appears to be somewhat made of stone, with veins of lava.

"The Keepers are still here," the skull says.

"Damnit," Otiak mutters.

"I knew we couldn't trust that thing," Jade says distastefully.

The Keepers set their eyes upon the group and advance as they prepare for kombat.

"I'm sorry!" the skull says. "I thought my body would be here!"

"Save it for later!" Otiak says, tossing the skull into the corner of the cave as he raises his reptilian hands. This may be tricky...

Blast them with a force ball.
>>
>>43988596

Otiak places his palms together and conjures a green ball of force that he launches at the nearest advancing Keeper. The ball hits the stone-skinned figure right in the chest and explodes with a flash of green light and with enough power to knock down a full-grown man, but the prison guardian is unphased and continues walking right towards him, as though his force ball were no more harmful than a stray breeze.

Suddenly he opens his mouth, revealing a tongue and throat of flame as he belches forth a fiery torrent that catches Otiak by surprise. The saurian rolls back, his left arm badly burnt from blocking the fire.

Nearby, Jade and Korbin attack two of the others while Meat attempts to tackle one to the ground; his attempt is unsuccessful and the Keeper picks him up and throws him against the nearby stone wall. Jade smashes one in the face with her bo staff, but aside from moving his head to the side, the Keeper seems undamaged. Korbin's throwing knives bounce off the skin of his target.

I know, but I ended the last session on a cliffhanger right before a fight. Don't worry, it'll be fine, it's not like anyone has ever rolled a 1 and gotten someone killed.

You haven't done that, right?

>>43988744

Otiak brings his palms down low. 'Perhaps these Keepers are more brawn than brains...'

He conjures forth a mist that rises from the ground up to the roof of the cavern, covering his enemies with a fog of confusion. It seems to work; they turn and swing their weapons, but cannot find their foes. One of them belches fire again but Jade nimbly dances out of the way with her staff before attacking him from behind. Korbin also manages to get behind his opponent and the two edenians push their enemies against each other. In their confusion, one of them swings his sword into the other's shoulder, nearly cutting off his arm.

Otiak's eyes widen. Perhaps that is the key to this...

Good thing this is Mortal Kombat.

>>43988911

Otiak leaps into the mist, ducking under a randomly swung axe by one of the confused Keepers, landing behind the one with the injury. He turns his head and opens his mouth to shoot out his tongue, which wraps around the stone-like figure's neck.

Otiak's eyes narrow as he tightens the grip, taking advantage of the nearby wound in the figure's shoulder to cause a crack across his skin. With a loud crunching noise, Otiak crushes the Keeper's neck, severing his head from his body, leaving a stump behind that bleeds bright orange blood (which thankfully isn't actually lava, just very hot blood, which only slightly burns his tongue rather than outright melts it).

The figure's head rolls next to the skull. "Oh, hey buddy, long time no see," he says to the dead stone.

The Keeper's body crumbles into a pile of rocks and burning blood. The other Keepers take notice as the fog disperses.

>>43988952

Otiak is having none of that, however! As his tongue shoots back into his mouth, he once more conjures another rolling fog of confusion. As one opens his mouth to breathe fire on the saurian, Jade shoves the end of her staff into it and knocks him to the floor.

Nearby, Meat picks himself back up and leaps onto the back of one of the Keepers, who flails his arms as the skinless man tries prying off his head with his bare hands.

Otiak jumps in front of the Keeper that Meat is wrestling with and holds up his clawed hands. With a series of fast, snake-like strikes with his Snake Kung Fu style, he dodges the attacker's swings and pecks away at his stone-like skin, chipping away at it, creating a few weak points.

Korbin throws a knife into a spot that Otiak just exposed, piecing the searing flesh beneath. The Keeper opens his mouth to breathe fire, forcing Otiak to flip backwards to dodge it.

>>43989073

Next he goes for the legs, but the Keeper reaches up, grabs Meat, and throws him downwards, right onto Otiak as he dives at the Keeper's legs. The Keeper opens his mouth once more as he looks down at them both, but Korbin throws yet another knife--this time into the Keeper's mouth.

The figure starts to choke as orange blood leaks out around the blade in his mouth; he falls onto his back. Jade is fending off the remaining two Keepers as they both attack her at once, blocking their attacks with her staff. She stabs one end into the ground at her feet and spins around the staff, kicking them both in the face in a stylish flourish that earns her some distance as they step back from the blow.

Meat rolls off of the top of Otiak.

Otiak raises his hands in preparation of casting a spell, but the Keeper with the knife in his mouth instead leaps up and swings a sword at his direction, forcing him to focus on dodging instead. The Keeper does not relent and continues to attack Otiak, forcing him back until his back is against the wall. He ducks as he swings the sword, burying it in the stone.

>>43989885

Otiak reaches up to the sword and wrestles it out of the Keeper's grip as Meat jumps on his back again. He throws Meat off, giving Otiak the chance to get behind him and stab him with the sword. The Keeper roars in pain before crumbling and melting away.

>>43991098

As Jade fends off her two Keepers, Otiak runs over and attacks one of them, blocking its sword with his own. The Keeper turns to fully engage Otiak as Jade and Korbin focus on the remaining Keeper.

As the Keeper falls onto his back, Otiak jumps up onto his feet and flips into the air, stabbing the sword down into his chest, through him and into the ground. The Keeper shrieks and falls to pieces.

Nearby, Jade shouts as she swings her staff around hard enough to knock the Keeper's head cleanly off. Jade spins her staff behind her as she takes a deep breath. "Looks like you're not getting ahead in life."

Otiak rolls his eyes as he stands up, brushing off his burnt arm.

"Hey, great job, guys!" the skull suddenly speaks up, drawing all of their attention. "I knew you could do it! Great work! Let's head into the prison now, yeah?"

Meat looks at Otiak as the saurian walks over to the skull.

I agree. I hope it isn't true and it's just Ed taking us on a Ruse Cruise, because if it is, instead of characters from the franchise, we're getting more guests.

But if this is all part of some long-term plan for them to secure the rights to Horror Movie icons so they can make a horror movie fighting game, then maybe I'd be willing to forgive them.

Anyway, writing the next part now.

Otiak holds the skull up high and says, "Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him before I turned him into a drinking cup for leading us into an ambush."

"Woah, woah, woah! Let me explain!"

"I'm listening, but I'm also thirsty."

"Look, when I escaped from this place, I lost my body here, alright? I wasn't lying about anything else---except the Keepers, I kind of knew they would still be here. But I also knew you could take them! Look, this entrance is still here, we just need to get through that gate over there and BAM! You're in the Prison of Souls."

Otiak walks over to the gate with the others and inspects it; there is no lever to raise it on this side.

"So, you're not angry?" Yorick asks.

"I never said that," Otiak replies. "But if you're right about this gate, I'll consider keeping you."

"I am! We just need to get through it," he insists. "And hey, maybe my body is somewhere on the other side! And come on, you can't blame a guy for trying, right? I was just---hey wait, I'm sorry!"

Otiak shoves the skull back into the sleeve of his robe.

Jade looks over at Otiak. "You can teleport, right?"

"I can," Otiak nods. "I might be able to take a few people with me, too."

Meat holds up a hand. "I can get through," he says. "I see the lever on the other side. Let me go in case there's a trap; I can... heal fast."

Otiak stands back and indicates for Meat to do as he would. The skinless man looks at the gate and places his hands against it.

"I've never really gotten the hang of this..." he mutters. "But it's a bit like swimming..."

He shouts as he pushes against the gate. Jade gives Otiak a skeptical look and Korbin silently watches as the experiment's voice grows louder and louder before he suddenly vanishes, his entire body turning into blood.

His form washes through the gate, pooling on the other side. After a few moments, his skinless hand emerges from the pool and grabs the ground near him, clawing himself out of his own pool of gore. With both hands, he digs into the dirt as he pulls himself out. Watching the process, Otiak can't help but feel as though his body is almost refusing to come back together, like he has to claw and fight his way out of the more simplistic blood-form.

Eventually he pulls himself out completely, now on the other side of the gate, as he breathes and pants. After a moment, he gets up, using the gate to hold himself. "I told you... I don't have the hang of it yet..."

Impressive nonetheless. He sulks over to the lever and grabs it, forcing it down. As he does, the sound of gears moving can be heard and the gate rises, allowing the rest of the group passage.

"Good work," Otiak compliments him.

Up ahead, the rough stone of the cavern becomes more smooth and worked as it becomes more like a dungeon. Beyond that, the floor turns from stone to metal.

"Perhaps one of us should go ahead and scout around a bit," Jade suggests.

"I volunteer," Korbin speaks up. "It is my job, after all."

Otiak nods at Korbin, who blends into the shadows as he sprints silently off into the industrial prison. The saurian then takes Yorick out and looks at him. "What level of the prison is this?"

"It's the lowest. It's where they cast the oldest and worst of their prisoners. It's not the level where they keep the insane---that's a few floors up. The good news is that there's an elevator!"

"Surprisingly advanced for hell," Otiak mutters.

"This place is very industrial. It wasn't always like this, but ever since technology reached the realm of Earth, people who have died have brought back with them the knowledge of steam, electricity, gears and all kinds of stuff. Plus, ever since Shinnok took over, he's put a lot of emphasis on the military industrial complex."

"Who'd he take it over from, exactly?"

"Eh, some guy named Lucifer. Must've been a real chump to lose his throne to Shinnok."

Otiak blinks a few times as he considers the notion of Satan being real and having been usurped as the ruler of hell. It's strange, but then again, hardly the strangest thing he's encountered on his journey.

A few moments later Korbin returns. "There are prisoners and torture chambers up ahead, and a large central platform with guards connected to chains that seems to take them from level to level."

"That's our elevator!" Yorick says.

"No alarm has yet been raised," the raven man reports.

"We would do well to avoid it," Jade says. "Remember that we are not alone in this prison..."

Otiak remembers well; the Brothers Chi and Smoke were seen entering this place, but for what reason, he does not know.

As they sneak closer, the cells that Korbin spoke of can be seen. This part of the prison is dark and not very well lit, making it easy to sneak around and past any roving guards. Within them are various humans, oni, monsters and other kinds of imprisoned souls. But as Otiak looks within them, he suddenly stops and looks at one, drawn by the sound of him breathing.

Within the chamber is a masked man with a respirator. He wears a long trench coat and looks up at Otiak from behind the black lens of his mask.

It's Kabal---one of the Earthrealm warriors from Shao Kahn's invasion! When Otiak was Kaito, he never had any significant interraction with the strange burnt man, but he remembers Kabal's uncanny speed and his unique hook swords.

"I know you," Otiak says to the man. "You were one of the champions who defended Earthrealm."

"I'm no champion," he says, his voice filtered through his mask.

"What are you doing in the Netherrealm? Are you alone?"

"I came looking for something," he says. "Ran afoul with the local authorities. Killed a lot of them. Now I'm here."

"Want out?"

He regards Otiak with some curiosity. "I do. What's the catch, strange lizard man?"

"Just distract the guards. There's an open gate down that passageway," he points in the direction he came from. "Lead them out and away from the elevator and we'll consider it all even."

"It's already done."

Otiak presses his hand to the pad alongside his cell and opens it up. Kabal steps out and looks at the saurian and his companions.

"I don't know your name," he says.

"Perhaps it's best that way," Otiak replies.

"Fair enough," Kabal nods. "Hide yourselves. I'll handle this."

With a blur, he takes off, running at a speed fast enough to leave a shadowy trail of himself as he moves. As the four of them hide in the shadows, he charges at the nearby guards, knocking them over with his arms. He turns to a third and blasts him with a purple plasmic projectile from his mask, knocking him down with a burning hole in his chest.

He then zips over to another group, running by them so fast that they are left spinning. The guard who took his hook swords for himself is then disarmed, and now he has his weapons back, and he takes a moment to spin them before setting about his deadly task.

A flurry of death and dismemberment unlike any Otiak has ever seen happens almost too fast for him to keep up; the guards at the elevator all shout and chase after Kabal as he runs down towards the exit, leaving the elevator free and open.

"Good thing Shinnok didn't get his hands on that guy," Otiak says. "The last thing we need is a speedster revenant on his side."

He takes out Yorick as they near the floor. "Alright, where is our guard?"

"Hm... From the look of things, he's one floor up. Maybe. I think. This level is reserved for torture victims, so the floor above this one should be the mental ward. Yeah, I'm almost certain of it."

"Your reassurances continue to impress," Otiak says as the elevator stops. He puts the skull away and Meat takes off with them following.

He runs down one of the grey metal corridors and stops in front of a cell. "Here! She is in here!" he says, opening the door after unlocking it.

As light streams into the cell, she looks up. Otiak nearly jumps back as she crawls into the light. She, too, has no skin.

"Isn't she beautiful?" Meat asks, holding out his hand. She takes with and they embrace. "I told you I would come back for you."

The others all look at each other with bewildered expressions. 'I guess there's someone for everyone,' Otiak thinks to himself.

As they finish their moist and bloody hug, Meat looks back at Otiak. "I made a deal. I will help you find who you seek now."

"Yeah... Nice to meet you," Otiak says to the skinless woman, who ignores him and looks at Jade.

"You have such beautiful skin... So smooth, so fair, so exotic..." the skinless woman says, reaching out towards her. Jade moves to defend herself and Meat stops her.

"Not now, my dear," he whispers to her. "They helped us."

She grits her teeth as they head back towards the elevator.

"The guards will return to the elevator soon," Korbin warns.

Making a point to stand between Ms. Meat and Jade as they ride the elevator up, they reach the mental ward in a few moments. They step off the platform and onto the cold metal floor.

The layout of this place is similar to the level below, but with padded cells and blood-stained walls. Here, the insane rant and rave and flail their arms through the viewing windows on their cell doors as they pass.

"The mad and the raving lunatics," Meat says. "I was almost like them once..."

Otiak remembers well when he first found the discarded experiment in Shang Tsung's dark prison. The skinless man did little else than scream and eat his own flesh back then.

As they look through the cells, searching for someone who resembles a Netherrealm guard, they suddenly hear a loud series of barks. They all turn as a pack of Netherrealm hounds charges down the hall, each almost as large as a man, with burning eyes and maws dripping with thick drool.

The hounds bay and howl as they grow near and everyone prepares to defend themselves.

The nearest Netherrealm hound lunges at Otiak, who manages to kick its head to the side. The dog snaps its jaws at the foot, but misses. Otiak's next kick send the dog into the wall, where it growls as its skull hits the metal, leaving a dent.

As Jade, Korbin and Meat begin fighting the hounds, Otiak launches a force ball at the one he kicked, managing to knock it back down. It had just gotten up and shook its head when the ball hit it, putting it back down again.

Generally, a tail is a sign of devolution, which in Reptile's case in Deadly Alliance came with mental retardation/schizophrenic behavior...but I wonder if that would even be a problem for us since we're a spirit just borrowing this body, the brainmeat isn't necessarily ours.

Well, Reptile had a tail at one point in his career. Saurians can have them. One of the three images we based the new look off of has a tail.

Should we have a tail? I don't believe any reference has been made to the presence or lack of a tail, so establishing that we have one right now technically wouldn't contradict anything.

The remaining three hounds gather as a group and charge, leaping at Otiak, Jade and Korbin. The raven leaps back and throws a knife into the third's nose while Otiak and Jade take on the first and second. The saurian brings his hand down in a hammering blow on the dog's head.

>>44005175

He picks up his hound and tosses it out the window as Jade does the same withe the second. Desperate to get a higher score than her, Otiak tackles the third to the ground and gets up on his feet, holding the flailing animal over his head. He lobs it out the nearby window and fist-pumps the air. Jade gives him a strange look.

Meat looks into one of the nearby cells. "I think this is our man," he says.

Otiak comes over to look inside and sees a man wearing the uniform of a guard, curled up in the corner and muttering something to himself.

Otiak opens the door and walks inside and kneels down next to him. "Hey, you. Can you speak?"

He shakes his head, staring at the floor. "It walks without feet," he says as his head continues to shiver. "It sees without eyes."

"Where?" Otiak asks. "Where is it?"

"Yellow, red, blue, green, all the colors and it is none of them," he mutters. "It's none of them and all of them."

Otiak looks back at Jade and Korbin, who are similarly puzzled. "Watch for more guards," he orders them. "They'll be coming soon."

Korbin nods and moves to stand watch. The saurian turns his attention back to the guard. "Tell me where it went. Do you understand? Tell me where it went. The thing you saw."

The guard stares up into Otiak's eyes. "It's everywhere," he whispers. "It's still talking to me in my mind. I hear the name it speaks over and over with voices uncounted. It says it again and again."

"What name? What name?"

"It was speaking to the man without a face, the one clad in red and black. It spoke his name. Havik. The name is Havik."

"I've never heard of the man," Jade says.

"Maybe the Black Dragon have heard of him," Otiak wonders aloud. "I think our next move should be to go to Outworld and find them. The one Meat mentioned---Tremor."

As they leave the cell and close the door behind them, Meat and the skinless woman nod at them. "Thank you for your help," he says.

"And you for yours," Otiak replies. "Good luck with your journies."

Meat nods and they part from them, heading in the opposite direction.

"Now what?" Korbin asks. "What's our best route of escape?"

As they run down one of the halls, Otiak takes out Yorick. "The nearest sewer entrance," he demands.

"At the end of this corridor, there is a chute that leads to the prison's sewer. You should know that it's not exactly clean."

"Doesn't matter, let's go!" he shouts. As they turn to follow the path of the hallway, they suddenly stop.

In the center of the hallway is a whispy figure wearing a silver mask with glowing red eyes.

His voice is distant. "Jade... How nice to see you again."

The edenian's emerald eyes go wide. Not far behind Smoke is the chute leading to the sewers.

"Jade, we need to leave," Otiak says.

She takes out her staff and extends it to its full length. "No," she whispers. The saurian looks at her questioningly. "When I was here last, they took him. I won't leave without him this time."

"Something tells me he won't cooperate with that," he says.

"Then I'll take him by force." She stands in front of Otiak and Smoke looks at her.

"I've missed you," he says. "It was nice of you to come and visit me here. You know, it really isn't so bad here, Jade... I'll show you."

He brings up his hands and urges her to attack. Otiak is torn---he knows that if Smoke is here, the three Chi sorcerers can't be far behind. They risk being overwhelmed... and if they are captured, only bad things can come of it.

"It's death," she replies with a firm voice. "There's also no warmth, no comfort and no heart."

She leaps forward and attacks with her staff, but Smoke vanishes, appearing behind her. He kicks the back of her leg and knocks her down. Otiak and Korbin both leap in to strike him but he once more turns into vapor, slipping away from his enemies.

Jade gets back up and charges at him when he reappears, but like a matador dueling a bull, he once more slips around her and gets ready to attack.

Otiak attempts to summon a fog of confusion, but as he conjures up the fog, Smoke counters it by holding out his hands and summoning a thick black smog of his own, a choking mist that causes Otiak to hack and cough as Smoke chuckles softly to himself, slipping away in a vaporous mist as Korbin attempts to throw a knife into his side. As Otiak recovers, Smoke appears behind him and slips his hands around his neck, choking him.

When the demon turns around, Otiak delivers a powerful Python snap, stabbing his clawed hand into Smoke's mask's eyes, cracking one. Smoke groans and teleports away, sending a ball of dusty fog at Otiak's feet. This smoke envelopes him and teleports him up into the air. As the saurian falls, Smoke grabs Korbin and throws him into each other.

"You cannot win!" he says through his mask, his voice almost echoing.

"Silence!" Jade says, kicking him in the back and pinning him to the floor with her staff. "You will know who you were! I swear it!"

He laughs and turns into mist again, causing her staff to go thorugh him and hit the ground as he slides away. Otiak and Korbin get back up to their feet.

Otiak charges at Smoke, but the enenra blocks each of his attacks. The sorcerer attempts to conjure a force ball, but once more the undead ninja vanishes, dodging the enhanced attack. Korbin throws three knives into the air which manage to hit Smoke's leg, stunning him for a moment. This gives Jade the chance to throw her boomerang into his back. The smoke demon vanishes as Otiak turns and prepares for his next attack.

He charges at Smoke with a series of descending cobras, forcing the demon to back up a few paces with each strike, but then Otiak spins and locks his leg around the demon's limbs, tripping him. Otiak lifts up his head and shoots out his tongue, wrapping it around his neck and arms. He curls his hand into a fist and slams it again and again and again into the metal mask, drawing some green blood.

Smoke struggles to escape the grab as Otiak delves into an old familiar tactic--the Bloody Hands style. His knuckles run green with blood as the second red eye cracks and the mask dents slightly.

Jade runs over and grabs the mask and pulls, but it does not come off. Otiak grabs it as well and adds his strength.

Korbin turns around and sees three approaching shadows from the nearby corridor---the Brothers Chi are coming!

With a sickening sound, the mask is torn from Smoke's head, tearing flesh and skin from his face. The mask is immediately discarded as the undead Smoke opens his white eyes and looks up at them, broken from the mind control of the mask. He lets out a breath through his skeletal mouth, exhaling a grey fog.

"Jade..." he whispers. She brings a hand to her mouth as she gently touches his cold forehead.

"Tomas..." she says, feeling his broken and cracked skin. "Oh, Tomas..."

"I hate to break the moment, but we need to go!" Otiak urges. Korbin runs over and helps them both pick up the undead ninja as the Brothers Chi walk around the corner. Thinking fast, Otiak uses the last of his magic to conjure as powerful a blast of confusing fog as he can, right in front of the three sorcerers. They are caught fully within it and do not see any of them, hiding the identity of Smoke's rescuers.

All four of them jump into the chute, which carries them into the sewer, depositing them in a foul-smelling green ichor flowing through a pipe. From here, they make it to the industrial runoff site, not stopping to make conversation. Once they reach the site, they all leap into a black lake of sludge and crawl to the shore.

Jade and Korbin help Smoke onto the shore. Despite the filth everyone is covered with, she kneels down next to him and embraces the corpse tightly. "Tomas... Oh, what suffering you have been through..."

His milky eyes stare up at her as he speaks in a raspy voice. "Every moment was anguish... But now that you are here, my anguish is no more."

They continue to embrace as Otiak slithers up onto the shore. Korbin helps him up to his feet and brushes some of the sludge off of him.

"Well, I wasn't expecting this to turn into a rescue mission, but I'm glad to have helped you, Smoke."

The demon looks up at the saurian. "Have we met?"

Otiak holds out a hand. "No, we've never met. But I'm glad to have finally met you."
>>
>>44011964

Smoke's thin, bony fingers feel cold and hard to the touch.

"Where do we go from here?" Korbin asks.

"We must bring Tomas to Edenia," Jade insists. "We must restore him!"

Otiak folds his arms in thought. Perhaps they should travel to Edenia... Or, perhaps, they could travel to Outworld and seek the magical spring that the pink ninja, Phlox, stands guard over. But then again, perhaps the water would instead harm the undead smoke demon...

He waves his hand around, indicating the red sky above. "This realm is a place of death and deception. How do we know he isn't lying?"

Smoke looks back at him. "If I were, there wouldn't be much of a way to prove it," he says.

Jade looks back at Smoke with a bit of uncertainty. "Tomas... How do we know you are yourself?"

"I don't even know if I am myself," he says. "Ever since death, it has been a haze... Perhaps I am still under some kind of control."

"Let's move," Otiak orders, and everyone picks themselves up. As they move away from the lake of sludge, a large amount of the black water is displaced as something moves within it. They all turn around and watch as a massive octopus-like monster rises from it, sticking two large eyes out of the water. A pair of tentacles uncurl and stick out of the water, resting on the shore where they just were.

'Good thing we moved,' Otiak thinks to himself as they leave the sludge monster far behind. As they return to the wastes of the open Netherrealm, Otiak feels the draining effects of its antimagic nature take its toll.

"At least the sorcerers won't follow us out onto the open plains..." he says wearily.

He takes out Yorick. "Do you knowthe closest portal to Edenia?"

"Well sure, but they haven't been open for thousands and thousands of years. Is Edenia back?"

"It is," Jade replies. "The royal family rule once more."

"Fantastic! Edenia has the best women, the best wine and the best music, bar none. Well, then again, I really haven't left the Netherrealm for a few dozen millenia so I might be remembering that wrong. Or maybe Earthrealm caught up? Either way, I'm excited to go."

"Stop getting sidetracked," Otiak says with a sigh. Korbin helps him along the plains. "The portal."

"Right! Hold me up and turn me completely around." Otiak does this so he can get a clear look around. "Hmmm... Okay, head THAT way!" he says as they turn in a certain direction.

"Is there any danger this time?" Otiak asks.

"I'll be honest with you: probably. The portal is in a temple in the middle of a lake."

"That doesn't sound so bad."

"The lake is filled with zombies."

"That's a little worse."
>>
>>44018340

"The lake is surrounded by twenty or so miles of flat land that is also full of zombies. Lost souls condemned to wander for eternity, hungering to consume the flesh and souls of the living to satiate a never-ending lust for living once more."

"Wonderful..." Otiak mutters. "And this is the only one?"

"Oh, well maybe I should take you to the portal surrounded by nice demons and candy," the skull replies sarcastically. "You asked for the nearest portal, that's the one. The next-nearest would be seven days away."

"I really need to learn cross-realm portal generation..." Otiak mutters to himself as they trek along.

Within the hour, they stand outside the field that Yorick spoke of. It is massive and flat, with a sandy ground. Undead wander aimlessly upon it, moaning and searching for prey.

"I think I will be safe," Smoke says. "They will not want to eat me."

"Can't say the same for the rest of us," Otiak sighs. Korbin helps him to a sitting position so he can think about their next move.

With Smoke teleporting around them, and Jade using her bladed boomerang on any that near her, the group is able to cross the plains at a fair pace. Otiak looks at Smoke. "I am weakened by the Netherrealm. I need as much magic as I can muster. Can you carry us over?"

The undead ninja thinks for a moment. "I believe I can..."

He gathers them all close and stands in the center of them. He begins to vibrate softly, increasingly growing faster and faster, until he becomes a thick cloud of grey ash-like smoke. The three of them suddenly feel lifted up into the air as he carries them across the water.

Below, the zombies reach up and moan in anguished misery as their meal floats overhead. Once they are accross, Smoke sets them down on the bank and reforms into his solid form. Jade places a hand on his shoulder. "Are you alright?"

"If I were still alive, I would feel winded," he says softly.

"Soon," she promises him.

Together, the four of them enter the temple. It is dark and gloomy, with much of the floor covered with water. True to Yorick's word, however, there is a portal at its heart, a glowing blue sphere of energy contained in a beautiful silver harness.

"Let's go," Otiak says as they step into the water.

Suddenly there is an explosion of water in front of them, a surge-like wave that washes over all of them (cleaning them of some of the sludge from earlier) and knocking them back.

A figure rises from the water. He wears a dark purple garb that covers his face, though his dark skin and brown eyes can be seen. In one hand he holds a silvery whip with several sharp lines of curving metal.

"You may not enter Edenia. I have been sent to stop you."

They all look at each other as Jade rises. "On who's authority?"

"Lord Shinnok, along with my father and mother, the future rulers of Edenia."

"And just who the hell are you?" Otiak asks.

"You will know me as Zeral, the last name you shall ever learn."

He raises his free hand, and along with it, four pillars of water rise and grow. They shift into humanoid forms; copies of himself. Water elementals under his control.

"Now, prepare to die."

Zeral raises his whip-sword and charges at them alongside his watery clones.

Plans flash in Otiak's mind, but before he can do anything, Zeral sends one of his clones down into the water. Almost immediately, it emerges behind Otiak and grabs his feet, dragging him under. The saurian finds himself in a watery pocket dimension before he is violently expelled near Zeral, up into the air. The water warrior turns and roundhouses the sorcerer out of the air with a super kick that sends him flying back into a pillar, cracking it in half.

Zeral chuckles to himself as he steps towards the saurian; nearby, his three allies split up to combat the elementals.

"I don't know who you are, little toad, but now you will know death."

He raises his urumi high up and prepares to strike him with it and flay him to death.

>>44019375

Otiak opens his eyes and looks up into the opening of Zeral's tagelmust and immediately spits in his face. The venomous spray hits the warrior right in his eyes, forcing him to cry out in sudden pain and surprise. Otiak immediately curls back onto his feet and launches two force balls; they both hit their mark and knock him back into the water, where he vanishes.

Nearby, Jade smashes one of the elementals with her staff, but to no effect; it passes cleanly through the watery form. The elemental, in turn, spins in place before leaping at her, striking her with a hydrosurge of force that pushes her against a nearby wall.

Smoke and Korbin work together against two of the other elementals, but so long as Zeral controls them, they are powerful foes... The hydromancer has yet to reveal himself again.

When the hydromancer turns around, Otiak leaps up, hissing as he positions two of his fingers like snake's fangs and slices him across the neck with the speed of a striking serpent, drawing a deep gash and tearing his cloth. Zeral's eyes go wide and he falls back, grasping at his throat as the water around him turns red.

Otiak licks his fingers clean as the water elementals are all dispelled and sink back into the water.

Before Otiak can advance on him, he is suddenly blasted by a purple fireball. From the upper reaches of the temple there emerges a young woman with dark skin and yellow clothing with edenian markings, her hands covered in purple fire. She resembles Tanya... "Fool of a brother," she whispers as she sends another fireball towards the saurian. The sorcerer leaps back to avoid it as she jumps down next to him.

"Ish... Isha..." he sputters, his mask turning dark red.

She erects a wall of purple flames between Otiak and her brother as she grabs him and drags him towards the exit of the temple.

Otiak leaves the firewall behind as he approaches the others. "Who were they?" Jade asks.

"Warriors from an alternate dimension, another timeline entirely," he explains. "More symptoms of the problem the entity poses to the realms."

"The what?" Smoke asks.

"We will explain later," Jade replies. "Let's get to Edenia."

As Jade tends to Smoke, Korbin grabs Otiak by the shoulder and leads him aside. "I am concerned about Smoke. I think he may be deceiving us still."

"How can you know?" he asks.

Korbin continues to whisper, "Something does not add up. We escaped without any of the Chi sorcerers seeing us, so how could Shinnok have known where we were going? He said that Lord Shinnok himself sent him to stop us."

"I'm not following," the saurian says.

"If those three sorcerers lost one of Shinnok's revenant, would they report it to their lord or try to solve the problem themselves?"

"I imagine they would try to fix it on their own."

"So then they would have attempted to intercept us, would they not? But that would rely on us having truly rescued him."

"You're implying that we haven't," Otiak whispers. "That he's lying."

"I think that this encounter with Zeral has nothing to do with Smoke," he explains. "That had he not been here, we would already be on our way to Edenia. The three sorcerers let us go because they want us to bring Smoke with us."

"Then who sent Zeral?"

"He is an interdimensional warrior from an alternate timeline. Could the Entity have sent him from his own reality into our own to stop us?"

"But how can you be certain?" Otiak asks.

"I cannot, but I have a feeling," the one-eyed raven says. "I will do nothing without your say so. What should we do?"

"About what?" he asks, moving to stand.

"I'm not sure we should take you to Edenia with us."

"How dare--!" Jade begins. "He needs our help!"

"We might be helping more than just him," Otiak says, looking the corpse in the eyes. "I need to know if you truly are who you say you are. I know what you are: a demon, an enenra. It seems awfully convenient that you are back in control of your body again."

"How am I supposed to prove this, exactly? You only have my word. Even when I was controlled, I knew everything I know now, so there's no way to know if I'm telling the truth, as bad as it sounds. But I'm not, NOT, under the control of them any longer."

Jade turns his head. "Tomas, tell me: are you being honest?"

"Of course I am," he says. "But I don't know about your allies. They don't trust me..."

Jade looks back at them with distrust. Smoke leans in close. "I think they mean to leave me here. I don't want to stay here, Jade, I want to stay with you..."

Otiak suddenly starts to realize what is happening. "Jade, get away from him!"

Otiak puts the skull away and looks around. The ancient temple does indeed contain ancient burial jars in some of its alcoves...

The Enenra reaches out with long, wispy limbs and punches Jade and Korbin aside. "YOU! DO NOT RUN FROM ME!" he shouts as Otiak runs towards a nearby jar.

"This is nuts," he mutters to himself. "You're saying I could contain that thing with a pot and lid? This is nuts!"

He reaches one of the burial jars and twists the clay top open, revealing ashes inside. He dumps them out and prepares to turn around when the Enenra grabs him by the feet and pulls. Otiak drops the jar and it shatters.

Jade suddenly leaps into the air and screams in fury as she descends upon the vapor-demon, smashing him with her staff. She attacks him relentlessly, keeping him at bay as Otiak looks for another appropriately sized jar.

He finds one and opens it, discovering a skeleton inside. He dumps it out and hoists the jar up and gets ready to use it, wondering how exactly this is going to work...

Jade spins her staff around like a fan, keeping the demon at bay. But unfortunately, it doesn't have enough forward push to work like a fan, either. Otiak considers their options and finds them rather limited.

At that moment, Korbin leaps up next to the demon and opens his beak wide. He takes a deep breath, much more significant than a normal human or edenian could, inhaling the demon into his body. Otiak and Jade's eyes go wide as he does this, and he immediately convulses and dives towards Otiak and the open jar. He sticks his mouth into the jar's mouth and opens it, exhaling the demon.

When he goes back, Otiak immediately slams the jar shut and screws it tight.

Korbin falls back, hacking and coughing. Jade kneels down next to him and inspects his throat; it is bleeding.

"Damn fool!" Otiak says. "Why'd you do that?!"

He shakes his head, continually coughing and wheezing. He doesn't seem to be able to speak. Smoke must've done some serious damage to him on his way out...

They both pick him up along with the jar and make their way to the portal.

Once they are through, they find themselves on top of a mountain in the middle of the night, with the moon high above. Jade scans her eyes around the serene horizon and says, "I know where we are. This is a mountain range north of the royal palace. We may be able to reach them in just a few hours."

Korbin turns his head and coughs a few times; the last one brings up blood on the dirt.

We are out of the Netherrealm and can slowly use our magic again, right?
So let's pick a route, and start teleporting slowly trough it while Jade goes ahead, and brings back help.

Also tell Korbin that this is he most weirdly Heroic things we ever seen, and we seen some shit.

"Good work," Otiak compliments Korbin. "That was very weirdly heroic, and trust me, I don't make that statement lightly."

Now that he is in edenia, a realm bustling with magic, his natural sorcerous powers begin to return to him. Otiak tells Jade to go off on her own, and he will teleport Korbin as much as he can. She instructs him the direction she will start travelling in and they part.

As he teleports down the side of the mountain with Korbin, Otiak comes to a clearing on the side of it. It is smooth, flat and has three stone boulders that have been smoothed out, almost to the point of resembling orbs. Upon one of them sits a woman.

"Hello," she says. "You look injured. Do you need assistance?"

Otiak looks at her and realizes he has not put up his disguise, but she seems unphased by his suarian appearance. In fact, she almost looks familiar... She is bald, wears simple brown-red robes, and has an intricate tattoo upon her face.

"...Possibly," he admits.

"I can sense him," she replies. "But before I can help you, I need your help in return."

"Can you heal my friend?" Otiak asks.

"Indeed," she replies. "I have great power of my own. But I am trapped."

"Trapped? How? You're just sitting there on that stone."

"So it seems. I am actually trapped inside the stone. I was sealed within centuries ago. What you see before you is nothing more than an illusion..."

She suddenly vanishes, slowly fading from sight.

"Okay... So, what do I need to do, exactly?"

"You need only choose the correct stone that I am trapped in and break it."

The saurian's eyes bulge slightly. "Break it? Like, with my hands? Or can I use one of the other stones to break the one I choose? Can I break two or three of them at once? And what happens if I break the wrong stone? Can you tell me which one it is?"

"You ask much, but I can only tell you that I am forbidden from revealing in which my soul is kept, and what is inside the other two."

Otiak thinks to himself. Perhaps he could break a stone... he's seen other warriors do it. It would undoudtedly hurt, and Korbin may not have much time...

Upon stepping closer to the stones, Otiak realizes they are actually covered in rather intricate patterns that reveal themselves to him as he nears. He places his hand upon one of them and runs his clawed fingers along the grooves, but does not know what significance they may have.

He starts to make out the tracings and run ideas through his mind when he realizes the one of them has swirls that extend clockwise, whereas the other two have swirls that extend in a counter-clockwise pattern. This small distinction does single one of them out from the other two.

Otiak raises his hand up high and brings it down upon the stone, miraculously cracking it in half. Immediately there is a bright flash of light as the stone is broken, and the figure of a woman appears, the same as the illusion, only this time as flesh and blood.

"Thank you," she says with a calm smile. "I will uphold my end of our arrangement."

She waves a hand over Korbin, who stops coughing and closes his eyes, now in a deep sleep.

"There are those who would leave now, but I am not so callous. You freed me, kind saurian, and you did so only to help another out of the goodness of your heart. I would bestow upon you a gift, if you would like."

Otiak realizes that this would be similar to when he freed the woman of water. She gave his old body a great gift, the power to manipulate water and heal others... This woman could possibly do the same, with different powers. But should he accept them now and benefit immediately, only to lose this body if he succeeds in his mission, or wait to claim her reward another day?

Yes, the epilogues featured in those games are also known by Kaito. We haven't really brought it up but I imagine Kaito isn't too happy about Tanya and Rain, what with the unfaithfulness, scheming, bedroom antics and Rain being the one who hired Erron Black.
>>
>>44025975
>>44026004
One of the secrets we were about to reveal back at the slaughterhouse was Rain and Tanya's treachery, but we went against that and went for the "Onaga is coming back" and "Raiden is acting weird" secrets, both of which we're also aware of.

We'll just punch him in the face again, and tell him it's us taking back our apology for punching him in the face.
>>
>>44026036

Also, the seemingly random "jumping around" of the epilogues can be imagined to something along the lines of Kaito flipping through the channels and trying to catch up on events, but he only had so much time and couldn't get around to everyone, but he got most of the important stuff.

Anyway, end-all, be-all:

>Continuing

As Otiak thinks, there is a noise from the south. They both turn to look in the direction of the royal palace and see a great beam of light that transforms into a portal that slowly begins turning the sky red. From this hellmouth emerges flights of winged demons. These gargoyle-like vanguards are the first wave of the Netherrealm invasion force, and the ground troops streaming out of the bottom of the pillar are assisting them. Otiak runs to the edge of the mountain and sees this happen and his blood runs cold.

Shinnok has arrived in Edenia.

Thank you everyone for playing this weekend, I should be back again next weekend and we should be back to a consistent pattern.

In other news, I got engaged in November, so there's going to be a Mrs. Damashi at some point, which makes me very happy.

If I can't run next weekend's game I'll make an update on Twitter, but I should be able to just fine.

Well, maybe not for this story in specific, as it is very narrative in nature, but I've also been kicking around ideas for alternate protagonists for future stories set in the MK universe. The one I've put the most thought into would be an Outworld-born thief/rogue/brawler under Kotal Kahn's regime; pic related.

While I won't reveal anything that's going on in the background, there's a lot of things happening and it's all set on something of a timeline I've sketched out. Had we focused on leaving for Edenia sooner, we may have been at the palace itself when this went down, for example. Of course, we also may have had a deceptive Smoke still with us then, so who knows what may have happened.
>>
>>44027068

I've also been planning other possible RPGs in the future I could play with. I've been getting back into Star Wars and Mega Man NT Warrior/Battle Network and I'd be interested in running a game in one of those settings.
