Last Time, On Feral Necromancer Quest: You knew your path to immortality, and you knew how you would get there. All that was left was to see the birth of your child prior to the undertaking of one of the greatest tasks of your life. While an alchemical mishap left you in a somewhat altered state of mind on the actual night of the birth of your daughter, it did, in the end, go over without much of an issue. The next day you set out for the mountains, where you would hone your mind and become immortal. The path was hard and the dangers many, but you reached the top and you communed with the spirits there. You spoke with a spirit of the mountain, and you knew how you would transcend mortality. You transformed into one of the members of an immortal race- a dragon- and became immortal yourself in the process. And that is where the first volume of Feral Necromancer Quest concluded.

Vlad Tepish: You, a necromancer and shaman of great skill and a part time immortal dragon. Your constant and insistent attempts at diplomacy with the neighboring tribes has made you a leading member of the council of Elders of the Alliance.

Bathory: Your lover and companion, brought back to life into an alchemical body. She is the mother of your child. A skilled diplomat in her own right she brings stability and counsel to your company.

Mihnea: Your baby daughter. She does not cry much.

Lathrien: Your apprentice and the first vampire, he is getting better at controlling his new powers, which are substantial. The first to gain immortality among your party, he is stronger, faster and more charming than ever before.

Melandie: A huntress, a berserker, an elf. She is quick to anger and her rage is terrible, but she has learned to control her emotions better recently. The runeblade she wields still impacts her emotions, but it is unlikely to break her mind or kill her any longer.
>>
Korg: Your orcish blackguard, he is bound to your will. He wields a great hammer and cares for few things more than to use it in battle. A creature of simple pleasures and sins he is a destructive force on the battlefield and a cunning creature in planning.

Halivean: Known to you as Hal, he is your desert elf blackguard. Fanatically loyal to you and with some basic skill in necromancy and tactics he is a vital lieutenant to your forces. His agility is exceptional and his skill with a blade and bow is significant, but where he shines is leading undead into battle.

Karist: Dwarven runesmith and elder.

Spot: Gnoll rogue and boss.

Vlad the Kobold: Kobold leader.

Amythrien: Elven craftsman and elder.

Sheila: Human elder from your village.

Housekeeping:

Hoo boy. Well, let's begin:

The new advancement rules and perks: http://pastebin.com/WwpGdjMJ

The civilization rules (subject to change): http://pastebin.com/vBgFKj7w

Character sheets, including the Civilization sheet for the Alliance: http://pastebin.com/vBRyBWfK

>Vlad has 3 points to distribute among Diplomacy perks, Deception and Intimidation.
>Vlad can pick 1 perk of tier 1 intelligence perks.

>Magical research shall not be available for this session.

You've done it. You have actually done it. At first it seemed entirely impossible- to escape the endless cycle of life and death, to free yourself from the fear of death through freeing yourself from death. Over the last year or so, you learned that not only possible, there were many ways to achieve this. And then you did.

You fly, in your new form, back towards your keep. You transform back into Vlad Tepish, though the body seems small and weak by comparison, and you walk towards the front door.

>>44000468
It's finally happening! I have a question regarding the perks. Would perks that are basically upgrades need an earlier version of them to work? For example would we need ‘That Thing Was Too Big to be Called A Sword’ to get The Dragonslayer?
>>
>>44000566
Should've been more clear, the timeskip would be the first civ turn with all that it entails.

>>44000575
Actually technically not, right now. I shall probably edit in prerequisites where it makes sense, but I want to leave it pretty open overall.
>>
so much new shit, holy shit

I also want to see everyone's reaction. By the way I vote for
>Researcher: When researching in a library or a laboratory you gain an additional +1 to the roll. Furthermore, during Civilization turns, you produce 1 research point on your own.
>Commanding Voice: When using Intimidation to command on the battlefield, on a success, instead of raising the level of morale by one tier, you can automatically set it to Determined (1)
>First Impression: When you first encounter another person or delegation, all other things being equal, their starting disposition, instead of suspicious is Neutral (1), Positive (2)
>>44000594
If you don't make it so we need the prerequisites then it'd be a waste of perk point to get some of them earlier.
>>
>>44000594
Oh, never mind then. Let's timeskip.

Well now it's only a matter of time before someone calls us Dracul.

>‘Since When Were You Under The Impression…’: Once per thread, after a critical failure or a major setback, you may announce that something that has so far been assumed to be true is false, or vice versa. With a semi-logical write-in explaining how everybody’s been deceived so far, you may declare the new truth of the world as it is.
I love this perk.
>>
Looks like straight to timeskip. This shall be a bit crunchier than usual, but ultimately there should be no more than one such post per thread. So,

I would agree, except that our Alliance is largely a civilization built around our own personal charmisma. It makes sense then politically to build granaries, because it shows that we care about our people.
>>
>>44001019
I think we can do more than 1 for each part if we have enough people. 2 researches means 2 research points so we can research 2 tier 1 techs.
>>
>>44001062
> any technology in the first tier of tech costs 2 research points
Oh wait nevermind.
>>
>>44000960
Not so much now, but I sure am going to make a few random event tables by the next civilization turn.

You land and less than a minute later you see Melandie rushing towards you, panting,

'Vlad, I don't know what the fuck you've done this time, but I swear there's another fucking dragon coming our way right the fuck now,'
'Where is it now?'
'I, er, lost it,'
'You? Lost a dragon?'
'Well, it fucking landed like right here, so it should be around.'

You transform back.

'Nope,'
'But Melandie, I...' you say in a booming dragon-voice.
'Nah.'
'Whatever do you mean?'
'I refuse.'

You get little else out of her for days. Lathrien is much more receptive to your change, if perhaps a little jealous. You'd told Bathory beforehand, of course, so she is not very surprised herself. The council of elders sets precedent for thinking that you are an insane man that hates tradition and reason.

Over the next ten years, this becomes routine. You make a scientific, social, or magical breakthrough of one kind or another. Everyone else calls you a madman. It works much better than expected. Everyone agrees that it was the right thing to do, and their respect for you grows- but never enough to not call you a mad man the next time around.

It is a warm day. Your transformation has become ancient history, or close enough. You do not transform into your true form, there is no need.

And you have been building. Certainly, the villages of the mixed races are the most curious sight within your lands. elven houses, carefully built around trees, shaped so as to fit perfectly in along with the forest; right next to them, human log cabins, firewood burning in their hearths. Underground, both of those houses would more often than not be connected by kobold tunnels, and sometimes an arrangement- for protection, or for servitude, with gnolls has also been reached, so there is one sleeping on the threshold.

Seeing as
>One worker produces two units of production.
It would take 5 to build the granary, 10 to build both smelters, 15 undead or people to build the library.
If we are allowed to use the undead to build the library then that leaves just enough people to do the special projects.

>Even Tougher Than That: You ignore sneak attacks, critical strikes, and massive damage, instead taking health damage as normal. There is not difference to you if you are skewered with a dagger in your sleep or struck by an axe in the field of battle, you will likely shrug it off.

>Too Tough to Die: Seeing as you are immortal, nothing but complete dismemberment can take you out of the field of battle. You keep fighting even after you have gone into negative wounds, though you start taking penalties to your actions.

I'm going to quantify exactly what's happened between threads on the civsheet, up to an including ret-conning actual writing if there is a lot of disagreement. It looks like I am also actually simplifying the rules somewhat.

>>44001151
But there have also been more focused feats of construction directed by you. With the tools you can build, a lot gets done in ten years. The granaries near your own keep and the smelter in the mountains are only the most obvious and immediately relevant projects, your plans and ideas for the great city that this would one day become are without limit.

You are enjoying the one thing you almost never get. A free afternoon. The sun is setting in a few hours, but all of your day-to-day work is already done.

>Body of a Dragon- You roll all of your physical rolls as if your physical stats were +4. You gain the ability to fly, to magnify your voice, fearsome natural weapons of your kind and many further actions that would be impossible in human form become mundane to you.

>Might of a Dragon- When attempting humanoid-tier feats of strength you do not roll. You are a dragon. You succeed in anything purely physical that any human could do. This does not include physical attacks.

Vlad operates on another scale entirely compared to mortals, and even Lath.
>>
> Reckless Brawler: When fighting unarmed (including natural weapons in animal form), instead of natural 1s injuring you and failing to do any damage both, you deal normal damage, but still receive all of the damage that a critical failure would have meant. Furthermore, when sparring against an opponent without this perk, you gain a further +1 to the roll.
Does this include our dragon form?

>>44001433
He's still noodly arm scrub
>>
>>44001522

>>
>>44001452
I've been moving back and forth a LOT about allowing unarmed feats to work in dragon form. Ultimately I figure that dragon-Vlad is a huge enough threat on the battlefield WITHOUT those perks, that even with them the difference should not be quite as ridiculous as it might seem on paper.

>>44001433
>Scale
Also truth... ish. Tales of mighty heroes besting dragons in battle abound in ancient books.

>>44001412
Yeap, this is true. I might still work on making minmaxing less appealing, but honestly I doubt I'll figure it out, and it's not like it takes no work to get 6 threads worth of exp.

>>44001377
Oh right. The title of this Volume is 'King of Kings'

>>44001536
Not actually true. Basically, vampirism has great benefits and significant weaknesses all the time. Dragon form, however, aside from more potential, provides very little in human form. Both Body of Dragon and Might of Dragon applies to dragon form only (until you get those perks)
>>
So OP pic is what Vlad looks like in either form?

I am entirely okay with this, I always imagined Vlad to look like a well-maintained if scruffy Viggo Mortensen, sorta how he looked like as Aragorn.
>>
>>44001433
From what it reads, "Body of a Dragon" only works when in dragon form.

I don't think Vlad can just fly with no wings, or can strike with claws when he has normal human hands, so it's not unreasonable to assume that stuff only works as a dragon.

And that makes me doubt the "Might of a Dragon" working in humanoid form as well, especially since some of the perks specify he can use his dragon stats as a human.

So in humanoid form he is still super squishy.
>>
>>44001555

If we increase our stamina we will be very hard to kill even without wasting a perk on those two perks.
>>
>>44001739
>>fighting in a tunnel
>>not collapsing it

Because dropping tons of stone on our head as we go through a tunnel is a good idea. Because we don't need that tunnel. Because no one else important is in the tunnel.

Plan for circumstances that may seem unlikely. Utilizing dragon stats in human form would be incredibly useful for many things, especially if we want to keep a low profile on being a dragon, which, so far, Vlad has been doing as there has been no need to be a dragon.
>>
>>44001802

Tier Seven
Body of the Dragon: You have as many wounds in your human form as you do in dragon form.

Won’t Stop Coming: Even if you are dismembered or removed from the battlefield in some other manner, so long as your pieces are put back together you will get up within an hour and return to battle.

Won't stop Coming is objectively better. However for STR I can agree both have its uses.
>>
>>44001752
>What else? Visit Bathory and Mihnea
>>
>>44001850

They work best when used in tandem.

Seriously, won't Stop Coming is only useful when you CAN put yourself back together, or someone is there to do it for you, missing all your limbs because you are a fucking noodle is a great way to invalidate it.
>>
>>44001850
Well if we have normal wounds we will get our arm chopped off as easily as a normal man. While WSC is objectively better, it's not so useful when the effort needed to remove us is a single arrow to the throat, or a single strong strike from the average warrior.
>>
>>44001752

You smile at the thought of spending the entire afternoon with your Bathory and your ten year old daughter. They are both as perfect as ever.

You go back into your hold- you recall, just barely the days when it was a dank, cold, rugged and rubble-filled ruin. Now the floors are carpeted in fabric and in fur, there are good torches every ten twenty feet, it is warm, bright and safe. You have made your office at the top of the tower- for no other reason but to make sure that if any supplicants come to you, that they have to make the climb up the stairs.

Bathory's room is still Bathory's room, and Mihnea has been asking for a room of her own for the last few weeks, but is staying with her mother for now.

So you find both of them, talking.

'No, mother, Timae is a fool, and I shall not heed his idiotic rants,' your daughter says, in a voice that is both regal and calm.
'All I am saying, love, is that anyone might get hurt by such words,' Bathory says.
'Pff, he cannot even read properly! I will have nothing to do with that plebeian, and he could no more offend me than dirt by messing up my silks,' Mihnea says.
'Now I am starting to fear you might lack empathy,'
'No, mother, I am perfectly capable of emphasising with NORMAL people, just not Timea,'

Your daughter is tall for her age. Her hair are pitch black and perfectly straight. She is beautiful.

>'Who is this boy you speak of? I shall deal with him at once.'

She's a ten year old girl, who has probably been spoiled by her loving, very powerful, and very respected parents.

She is a fucking literal Princess whether Vlad is a King or not.

This? This is just her being all puffed up like a pouting squirrel about her little village friend she probably actually wants to be friends with saying something dumb accidentally and she is over-reacting.

Have you never been around a child before you fucking simpleton?
>>
'Mihnea, Bathory, I am back early today,' you shout, you hold out your arms to your daughter.

She sniffs and turns her head. You keep your arms open and eventually she walks up to you and hugs you.

'Hi, daddy,' Mihnea says.
'Vlad? Are you actually home early?' Bathory says.
'The work that is never over does sometimes allow for a break,'
'You say so, but this is the first time I've seen you take a break, in, what? Ten years?'
'Indeed,' you say, and lift your daughter up, and sit her down on a chair.
'What do you wanna do, daddy?'

>'Nothing in particular, just happy to be here.'
>'I am giving your mom a day off. Doing all the writing, cooking, cleaning whatever else she does. Want to help me?'
>'What do you think? We go play hide and seek, or whatever else you like,'

Fun fact: If we get every single hp-related perk and get our stamina at 10 we'll have 125 hp in the dragon form.
>>
>>44002364
You know, she's being a kid, she's not some psychotic murderer and sadist. She's obviously overreacting to something someone said, and because she is incredibly well-learned, she's using words that sound like a smug cunt.

If she gets really nasty and acts like some self-superior bitch then we'll sit down and talk with her, but I doubt she will, she's just upset.

Have some faith, anon, Vlad and Bathory can raise a functioning human bean.

'First, first we play some games,' you say and Mihnea is trying her best to not look excited.
'Like what?'
'Well, how about hide and seek?'
'Okay. But I get to hide first,'
'As you say.'

She is actually getting kind of good at this. Hide and seek is a good game for kids. It is fun and if someone was to sneak in and try to murder her, well, at least she could hide. It takes you fifteen full minutes to find her underground with the kobolds.

'But how can you be Vlad, if my dad's Vlad?' Mihnea is asking Vlad the Kobold- Vlad the Kobold first re-gained a rusted red tint to his scale, that he had lost from living underground, and now is starting to lose it once more from age.

'Well, that's the name I chose, because I wanted to be like your father,'
'I want to be like him too, but I'm Mihnea,'
'Can't say I knew much of your people back then, girl,'
'Found you!'
'Aw, they were going to show me the tunnels and they said you could never ever find me in the tunnels if I hid properly,'
'Alright, now it is my turn to hide,'
'I'll count to one hundred and eleven!' Mihnea says.
'Alright, but after that it is time for your studies,'

You run back to where you came from, towards Bathory's room, as soon as you get there, you put a finger in front of your mouth.

'Shhh! She's looking for me,' you whisper.
'Hm? Oh, Vlad, you should act like a..' you theatrically crouch, and look around corners, with a look of exaggerated terror on your face, Bathory starts laughing.
'Hide me!'
'Come here,' she pulls you towards her and kisses you once. Then she throws you on the floor, stacks a pile of furs and fabrics on top of you, and then you feel her slight weight on top of it all, as she lounges there.

Some five minutes later you hear soft, tiny footsteps.

'Mom, is daddy here?'
'Why would he be here?'
'Cause he's hiding,'
'This would be a silly place to hide, now wouldn't it?'
'I guess so,'
'Of course, it would make no sense for him to hide here,'
'Eeeexcept...' you can just imagine her face, thinking, 'You haven't said that he isn't here yet,'
'Haven't I?'
'No you haven't!'
'Do you really not trust your mother?'
'Is he here? Yes or no?'
'Hmm. Okay, alright, he's here,'
'Where?'

Some two minutes of chatter later she lifts up a particularly heavy bearskin off your sweat covered face and shouts 'Found you!'

'Good girl. Now, it's time to study!'
'What are we learning dad?'

>'You could still read and write better. '

22! Great Teacher Tepish!

'Hm, I think today... history,' you say.
'You mean like ancient big cities and big magic and heroes and dragons and and queens and kings and elven kingdoms and and...'
'I thought we could start a little closer to now,'
'Oh, you mean the BORING kind of history, with the clan names and everything,'
'Well, there are elves and magic and dragons in this one,'
'But dad things like that NEVER happen anymore,'
'And Melandie is just a figment of your imagination then?'
'Uh. I mean things like magic and dragons,'

You smile. And then you begin your story. You leave out the gore and the swearwords, for the most part, but you tell her the pivotal events of ten years back, the events that lead to the creation of the Alliance and the birth of Mihnea Tepish.

'Wait, so mom isn't real?'
'Of course she's real. I had her mind in a jar for a few months is all,'
'Wow. And the elves became your friends? That makes no sense!'
'I find that people want to be friends with one another. It is just that sometimes they are too afraid to.'
'But, different people are different, right?'
'In some ways. But in others, we are all similar too. We do not want to fight, or to go hungry, and we want to keep our families safe. We all have more in common than hardly anyone realizes,'
'Oh. Um. I think I might have to go do something,'
'What is it?'
'Well, um, I think I might have been mean to Timea,'
'That so? What happened?'
'Well, he just kept asking me to read him this book about this boisterous idiot killing a dragon like it was a... a... bear or something mindless like that,'
'Not all bears...'
'Really? I mean uh, well and he kept saying that he's going to kill all the dragons and I uh said what about my dad and he said what about your dad and I said why would he say that and then I started yelling at him, but maybe he was not thinking about you, or maybe he doesn't even know, so uh, I think I got to go,'

Mkai, as far as Mihnea and magic, she sees everyday practical building uses for magic. Once you've grown up around them, a zombie lugging around some firewood, or some unusual storm during a drought, while your dad's sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed isn't that weird. Then you read about massive magical explosions, fire, mind-control and such, and you know that he could PROBABLY do that, but you've never seen it, and then you get older and start wondering if it even exists outside old stories.

that along with >>44003279
this are the reason for her view of history.

as for >>44003290
, there's some explanation incoming soon.

Well, you've been feeling particularly immortal lately, and you know just the man to talk about that sort of thing. You just hope Lathrien wants to be found. You walk out into the darkness, and you try to get a feel for him, and eventually you do.

You walk in the direction that you've been sensing him from, and find him deep in meditation, much like most nights like this one. You know that he's been playing a lot of catch-up as far as magic goes, and ironically, considering how you met, illusion has been one of his best schools after his transformation.

That along with his innate stealthiness has meant that he's near impossible to find- even for you- once he gets hidden.

We should bro it up with the mountain, and create a mountain refuge where we initially attained Dragon-hood.

A sacred site if you will, where those who wish to meditate and commune with the mountain can choose to do so.

Though, given how relaxed and patient the mountain was, he might not like throngs of people with short life spans meditating and bothering him.

Just a thought. Dwarves would probably love it though.
>>
You've somewhat gotten out of the habit of meditating regularly. You have to keep it up every now and again, just to keep the dragon in check, but you've never really stretched yourself, never really seen how far can you take it.

So you sit opposite to Lathrien, and you begin meditating. You focus on the self, the body, the other and the universe, and soon you are in a trance.

It hits you deep. You've been just about keeping up with it, and it is clear that Lathrien has been going at it with the aim of mastering the skill. And as you touch his mind in the trance, you almost, but not quite see a vision, of both of you, sitting in a bright, sunlit meadow, meditating, and in that vision there is a vision of the two of you sitting in a sunlit room, talking to one another. Except they are not visions, and you are clearly silent, clearly in the darkness, and clearly entranced.

In real life Lathrien has lost weight, grown almost gaunt, though still handsome and capable in form. In the mind-scape he has grown almost chubby and rather pleased with himself. You know he drinks very little blood, and has been reducing the amount for the last few years steadily. It doesn't seem to be affecting him, though you don't really know why he avoids even the synthetic stuff.

'Master Tepish? It is good to meet you,'

'So, we are two people who specialize in certain things. Peers, no?'
'Something like that, I suppose.'
'How HAVE your studies been progressing?
'I thought we were no longer master and apprentice,'
'Force of habit, I suppose,'
'Well, as you say, illusion comes easy these days. I am on my seventh evocation now, and I know a ritual or two. Necromancy's still stuck just a little above what you taught me ten years ago. And as far as Shamanism goes, I feel I've gone a completely different direction to you. I use it to speak to spirits almost exclusively,'

'Never even seen a fat elf in real life, didn't even know it was possible,'
'Oh,' he laughs, heartily, 'I don't even notice anymore, I mean, do you have any idea what you look like in here?'

You don't, now you think of it, and you say so.

'You are a dragon so giant that you should not even fit into this lovely hovel. As for me, well, the hunger is magic, and magic has a lot to do with mind, right?'
'Right,'
'So, I take sustenance here. A lot of sustenance. I eat a ridiculous amount of imaginary mind-food, and since my mental constructs are so solid, it sort of builds up,'
'And that actually works?'
'Well, not really, but on the other hand I don't NEED the blood to live, so it's just an issue of managing my physical ability, mental acuity, hunger and so forth.'
'But you do still need the blood, right?'
'Don't know. I do keep getting skinnier and weaker if I don't have it. Maybe I'd become a skeleton or something if I couldn't get any blood at all. Maybe, at one point I'd stop getting skinnier, or maybe at some point the hunger could not be controlled by anybody,'
'I get ya. What do you mean by the 'next war' though?'
'Vlad, you should know. We're going to live forever. There is going to be another war,'
'I guess you are right about that,'

'We get older, we get elfier, I suppose. But she's good. Not too elfy, still has plenty of anger in her. It burns like a fire.'
'Thought about her immortality,'

'That was her? I should have known, seen her off,'

'Sure it is. How about her rages?'
'Hm? We meditate. She has it if she needs it, but it won't happen for no reason,'
'Doesn't sound like much has changed,'
'Well, she's not exactly looking for ways to hone her anger, focusing on other skills. Which is smart, as far as I'm concerned, so long as I'm there to remind her that that fire is what she is made from,'
'Well, hell. Guess I shouldn't worry about young Lathrien anymore. Getting downright wise on me,'

Well, that was relaxing. You walk back to your tower, climb the stairs and enter the comfort of your office. This place... you must be spending ten, fourteen hours a day here. Three hundred and eighty people produce so much mess, and you end up dealing with most of it. That is not even mentioning the council meetings.

At least, your daughter's supposed pet is here. The squirrel-sized dragon lands on your shoulder as you enter your room.

'Can I return to playing with your daughter?' Necorax says.
'When she's eleven. That was the deal. She needs to learn to think for herself,'
'But that is all I want for her,'
'Necorax, the last time we left you two alone, you very nearly caused an actual armed rebellion against Vlad the Kobold. With my daughter as the figurehead of the resistance,'
'It cannot be helped that she is enthusiastic to bring down tyrants,'
'Vlad the Kobold literally personally brings gifts to every single kobold's birthday and personally organizes the Freedom day celebration every year,'
'He is sneaky. She would be a ruler far greater than him,'
'No playing with my daughter. Not until she is eleven, and even then that's PROBATIONARY,'

Not that it actually matters in any way, but Necorax is technically female.

Have you taken on too much? You remember your reasoning for taking the punishment of lawbreakers out of the hands of kobolds, and the actual WRITING of the laws out of the hands of dwarves. Perfectly reasonable decisions both.

And, of course, you are the only one that sees the whole picture when thinking of military deployment and strategy, seeing as you control the largest armed force and have close connection with all others.

And naturally, since you are the one that controls the law, the land and the army you should answer the questions that the people have of their elders, but...

>No buts. A lot of responsibility means a lot of power. This is the only way this is going to work.

One of the reasons why the Alliance is the Alliance is that Vlad wasn't sure how well a singular entity would work with multiple tribes and cultures in it. I'm all for putting the power back with the council members and settling for a Confederacy at this point, or going full monty and assuming a Kingdom.

That is nice to hear, but we still have to make sure the Alliance keeps a working relationship day to day.
>>
Perhaps you have been trying to do too much all by yourself. There is no reason, for example, why you couldn't have handed the duties of punishing criminals to the humans, and the writing of the laws to elves. No reason why you couldn't create a hierarchy for the armed forces, no reason you have to do freaking everything.

Still, it might also be time to expand the council. Perhaps have a few specialists from each race. Perhaps take on a secretary for yourself. Something like that.

Well, you technically have a secretary, but her lack of opposable thumbs and diminutive size, plus the fact that you have to give her back to your daughter in three months means that you really should be looking at someone else as well.

You are deep in thought when you are interrupted by a heavy banging at the door.

'Vlad! You better fucking be awake in there,' Melandie says.
'Come in,' you say. She does.
'Fucking hell Vlad, you ever sleep?'
'Not if I can help it. What's up, Melandie?'
'So, maybe our Mer representative should explain,' Melandie says.
'She's here?' you ask, Melandie nods, 'Please, come on in.'
'We met her on our way back, she was swimming the river as we were crossing it,'
'This body's as good in water as it is on land,' the Mer woman says.
'I know, I made it, remember,'
'Just reminding you it's work well done,'
'So, what is the issue then?'
'Ships. Proper ships, the kind of my great great grandmader would talk about. Coming North accross the Southern Sea,' she says
'Yea, that's one fucking thing. There's weird shit in East too. A whole fucking city, like it was built yesterday, but fucking empty. We ran after the first kobold died there. Figured we should get here to report back, at least,' Melandie says
'I see, anything else?'
'Well, I'm still worried about those Pernites. By all counts even ten years ago it wasn't their whole entire force. They're likely to have rebuilt by now. But you fucking well know my godsdamned professional opinion on that.'

As for racial attitudes and attitudes towards Vlad- pretty much everyone's accepted that Vlad seriously and genuinely wants to make life better for everybody. Some people do not believe Vlad has any idea of how to do it, but even they believe he's trying.

>>
>>44006295
Honestly, first thread, it was Vlad and his Spirit slaves (that he might eventually befriend and release) versus the world. Using his undead and magic to fight everyone and carve out a little slice of the world for himself.

And then everyone kept rolling diplomacy forever.

And then the biggest thing was, as I've said before, choosing to be able to read the library. By FAR the biggest change to how the quest ran.

Since then, I sort of started expecting more diplomacy, so I threw in a few more monstrous people to perhaps find an arrangement with, but those Vlad has generally completely destroyed.

Then there's how I was 90% sure you'd go vampire. Like I actually added in the Vampire option way late into the quest, because I mistakenly felt that the majority wanted that.

Plenty of other, smaller things, generally the familial nature in his relationship with Bathory, and even Lath and Mel is not something I expected. That kind of thing.
>>
>>44006385

>>
>>44006412
>>44006473
Then there was always the possibility of dragon AND vampire, but then we'd need to be a dragon first and age a bit before vampirifying ourselves.
>>
>>44006473
Tbh I honestly think everybody expected me to screw you with the drawbacks far worse than I would've. There were also originally like... three? Four? Options, that were pretty clear upgrades one from another, with Lich being the clearly superior choice. Then I kept adding more and realized I'd need to have drawbacks for everything, because the powerlevel was getting out of control even without immortality.
>>
>>44006545
Glad you waited a bit from the last thread, people were super pissed about that nat 1 for the drawback
>>
>>44006545
And when I say I worry about powerlevel, that's because I know there need to be serious fucking upgrades until Volume 3 which can finally be pants-on-head OP bullshit.

Then again, that's 30 threads from now. By then, we might be building spaceships for all I know.

>>44006578
Shouldn't have asked for a roll at all. I knew by then how it'd work out, so I should've just gone with it. On the other hand, hey, plot complications are always good for me.

Hey does
Researcher: When researching in a library or a laboratory you gain an additional +1 to the roll. Furthermore, during Civilization turns, you produce 1 research point on your own.
Reasoned Argument: When using logic and reasonable arguments in a social situation, you gain an additional +1 to the roll. Furthermore, you produce 2 research points during Civilization turns, as you can keep your researchers to a civilized discourse.
And so on stack? If yes then we really can reach spaceships if we focus int.

Yeap. That said, you can have a library per settlement, so you could just as well say 'if we stack food for that pop growth and more settlements', and research gives research too. And so on. Focusing on science is totally viable, but remember that magic advancement will come from the same pool and magic will generally not add to research.
