I'm just getting started with 40k, I just finished painting my new 'Nid army, and was wondering if anyone can help me come up with fluff? The picture is similar to what it looks like, just a deeper purple .

you dont need a whole lot of fluff mostly just decide what part of the galaxy your om noming

Just decide whether its an offshoot of a current hive fleet, or a new one just entering the galaxy, whether it prefers giant beasts, swarms or sneaky infiltrators

Here's what I got so far, thanks to browsing 1d4chan and looking Hive Fleet Nidhoggr.

Hive Fleet Chimaera is a Medium-Class Splinter Fleet of Hive Fleet Dagon whose goal is to reabsorb other Tyranids and unite them under one hybrid fleet, hence the designation. Their strategic tendencies change with whatever enemy they’re facing, as they are highly adaptable to whatever situation they’re in. They are special in the fact that all of their creatures above Rippers and Gaunts/Gants have the Ymargl Factor, and therefore can adapt readily. Instead of Tyranid Warriors, Malanthropes are commonly seen leading troops, as they alone can determine what is useful and what is not for their troops to adapt. There is a Tervigon of Hive Fleet Chimaera known as Delphyne that has the same ability of the Malanthrope to absorb and assess genetic material and can apply one trait from a unit it killed in CC to give to all of it’s spawn. This Fleet is currently in a war of attrition with the Storm Wardens on the planet Echinda of the Calixis sector.

How's that?

It really depends on your force. What are your main power units? Who are the heavy hitters and special units? What are the typical troops? Are there any specific biomorphs they use on a large scale?

What sort of method do they have when making planetfall? Do they start in the wilderness or the ocean and build up forces stealthily? Do they send infiltrators into cities? Do they blot out the sky with Gargoyles and descend upon large population centers?

A lot of personality and fluff for Nids is their general approach, with the rest mostly imprinted on them by their enemies.
