Welcome to The Lost Island Quest. Last thread our hero, Alan Rodain, returned to Seaside having successfully completed his objective and was rewarded handsomely for his efforts. After participating in a late night celebration at The Sword an Shield tavern, he spent a week studying Orcish and discussing theological doctrine with Dolah at Father Calloway's chapel. After achieving a competent understanding of the language, he stopped an assassination attempt on Father Calloway's life, most likely orchestrated by one of the rival healers in Seaside.

You look down at the gun in your hands, warmth emanating from it as the last lingering wafts of smoke drift up from the barrel. You quickly check the cylinder to see it has five bullets left of its eight chamber maximum. A quick once-over glance makes you think its works on some sort of spring-lock system. It's a bit hefty, it looks a little beat-up and you have no training with the thing, but it may come in handy. You shove it into your pocket before observing the gunman. He's still out cold from that punch of yours. You notice your knuckles don't hurt as you flex your hand. Definitely retained what you picked up from that spar with Gabby.

He looks dirty, and is covered in some sort of rash. His clothes are stained and his short black hair looks matted to his head by sweat and grime.

“Please.” Father Calloway starts to speak from the floor as he picks himself up. “Don't kill them.” Dolah snorts as she grabs the man she subdued by the collar.

“Oh, we aren't killing them.” She throws him into one of the church pews violently, before looking out among the rest of the parishioners. The gunshot startled them and most are standing, staring wide-eyed at you. “Citizens. Leave. Now!” The attendees break into action, gathering their things and filing out of the church, the permission to remove themselves from the situation being the only impetus required.

“Who sent you?” Dolah slaps the man across the face and he starts to sputter and cough, still recovering from passing out. When he seems more focused on his own pain than answering her question, she grabs him by the shoulders and shouts in his face. “WHO SENT YOU?” You can see the spittle fly. She throws him back into the church pew.

You've never seen her this angry before. She's kinda scary.

He's still reeling from the jostling when Dolah slaps him again. That one knocks his face to the seat from his sitting position. He starts to push himself back up. This seems like something you can play off of.

You step forward and push Dolah back a bit, locking eyes with her. She backs up and lets you move in. You help the guy back up and look at his face. That slap seems to have broken the skin a bit. A minor cut, but enough damage that you can justify going for a quick fix.

“Hold still.” You fish out your marble and channel a bit of healing energy into his face. The cut heals up nicely, leaving no scar and you give him some time to catch his breath. Once he looks like he's gotten his bearings back, you start. “Look, she can do this all day. You two don't look like you came up with this idea on your own. You tell us who in town put you up to this and we might even let you go.”

He grimaces, looking at you and back to Dolah. He shakes his head earnestly. “Nah, think I'll keep my trap shut.” Dolah promptly walks back up and grabs him by the throat before slamming him into the church pew.

“I don't think you want to go through what she'll do to you.” He stares defiantly at you before a small smirk creeps up the side of his mouth.

“Ya can't scare me. I know who you are. The good ones.” He gestures to you, Dolah and Calloway. “Sure, get real loud and throw me around a bit. Act mean and scary. You won't do anything though. Guy I work for, he finds out I squealed. Ye, nah, then I'm a fucking dead man for real. Just call the fucking guards already.”

You frown. Seems like this one has some idea about yours and Dolah's tenets. You look back to her and see her looking very stern. A twinge of defeat on her face. She knows she won't go any farther than this.

You start to chuckle as you stand up to your full height. He looks up at you puzzled. It changes to a hearty laugh. You point at him and shake your finger.

“You are a smart man. You know that? Cased the joint I bet, set up a good moment to go for Calloway. Cut your own arm to get him off-guard. Wonderful plan, really. Shows you can endure a bit of pain for a chance to earn whatever it is you were paid. And to top it all off you did your research.” You gesture to the three of you. “We all follow a very strict moral code. Our vows pertaining to our conduct forbid Dolah, Calloway or I from harming you now that we've captured you. If you don't want to talk to us, our hands are tied.” You love that smug look on his face.

“Very kind of you. You're nicer people than I. Maybe my time in the jailhouse will make me see the light.” You laugh again, this one practically shaking the rafters of the chapel. You wipe a tear from your eye.

“Didn't say I was taking you to the jailhouse.”
You find yourself milling about in the back of the abandoned, waterfront warehouse. You stopped hearing screams a while ago. That may be a good sign. May be bad. Hopefully she didn't overdo it. The rest of the crew, save Dolah who stayed behind at the chapel to protect Calloway, are there with you. Eve too. She seems to have just got back from her stay with the lizardfolk. She, uh, picked something up from them too. The weird-patterned scales going up and down the sides of her neck are a bit off-putting. Some sort of STD? You shudder at what have she might have gotten up to over there. She hums to herself as she plays some sort of dice game with Quissonce. You're feeling bored.

I know I said I was gonna give it some time, but you all arrived promptly.

You meander over to where Eve and Quissonce are rolling dice on a wooden beam that they cleared most of the dust off. It seems to be a simple, mind-numbing exercise. They just throw two dice, look at the results and then hand it to the other player before doing it again. They look up at your approach.

“So, Eve. What's with the . . .” You gesture to your own neck before pointing at her. She puts her hand to her neck, looking confused as she feels around until her hands pass over what must be the rough, bumpy texture of those scales.

“Oh, yeah. These are my scales.” She decides that is a sufficient answer before throwing the dice once more. You look over to Quissonce who just shrugs her shoulders. You cough.

“Why do you have scales, Eve?” She definitely didn't have scales last week.

“My Draconic heritage is reasserting itself now that I'm able to reconnect with my ancestry.” You look over to Quissonce for aid. She coughs.

“Eve claims a dragon interbred with one of her ancient ancestors.” A gnome and a dragon getting it on? Somehow that idea seems a little silly. Eve stares daggers at Quissonce.

“It's not a claim, it's true. The blood of dragons flows through my veins. The dragonblood pumping from my heart is what empowers me with the magic to alter reality. Soon I will tap into my inner dragon and soar the skies, burning all who oppose me.” She looks over to you. “You might have dragonblood flowing through yourself, apprentice. That may be why I was able to help you tap into your own magical prowess.”

You highly doubt that. You haven't exactly been feeling particularly reptilian. You do rub your neck a bit however, and are relieved that it feels as human and soft as ever.

You look to Quissonce and examine her. Your eyes roam her neck and hands, looking for some sign of scaliness. She notices you and quirks an eyebrow.

“Uh. Do . . . you have dragon blood, Quissonce?” She looks at you funny.

“No.”

“Well, you said that dragons were the ones who taught us magic. And you can cast magic –”

“Because I spent decades mastering the hand movements and the words. Like I've said. It's a science. Eve here may be lucky enough to be a natural due to some odd biological influence, but I assume the rest of the spellcasters on this Island had to educate themselves. We'll find out once we join the Circle.”

You should get on that soon. Hmmm, you certainly didn't spend years learning the scant amount of magic you know. Is that a result of your ability to mimic things or the result of a dragon having his way with an ancestor of yours. Something to ponder later.

“So Eve, what was your week with the lizardfolk like?”

“Mixed bag. They're really cool and their religion is sick and I got to speak to their holiest lizard. But they see themselves as lesser beings. Their lot in life is to work for a dragon. Its a tad pathetic. But they'll be useful servants when the time comes for my ascension. Also, I had to hold my breath to swim to their village. And while I was able to manage it, MAN, was it annoying. They're a bit primitive, with their shelters made out of wood and most of their weapons being made out of bone or stone. Food was good, if repetitive. Fish, fish, fish. Saw where they spawn their eggs too. I'd rate them at about an 8 out of 10.”

That's good that Eve got along with them. You'd like to ask some more, but you haven't heard any noise from where Gabby took the two prisoners in maybe ten minutes now and you're concerned. You excuse yourself and walk towards the door leading to her interrogation room when she walks out, nearly bumping into you. The rest of your team gathers around and starts paying attention.
>>
“So, here's the long and short of it. These two assholes were paid by some schmuck named Harnost to ace the priest. He's some big shot healer that charges an arm and a leg. Runs his operation out of some office building in the middle of town. Guy has maybe ten to twelve armed guards protecting his business. He's also probably got a shit ton of gold stashed somewhere in the building.” Mystery solved then.

“That's good. I'll go tell Dolah –” Gabby raises a hand to interrupt you.

“Not so sure that's a good idea Al. We tell Dolah, she's going to contact the guards.” You look at her a bit confused. What's the problem with that? “The guards handle this, maybe it's dealt with completely. Maybe it isn't. Plus, no chance for us to nab the money this guy's been squeezing out of people. We should handle it ourselves, let Dolah know after the mess has already been made.” Eve speaks up at this point.

“Frankly, I think we should just deal with all the other healers in town now. The way Bartom talks about it, they're all keen on getting rid of Calloway. Whether he wants to accept it or not they sent a message today saying there isn't enough room in this town for healers that ask for money and ones who don't. And I agree. We should make sure by the end of today, the only one left standing is Calloway.”

Quissonce and Rowe don't seem to have a strong opinion one way or the other. Kyra has appeared keen on handling the problem yourselves since the word 'gold' was mentioned.

We can offer them a deal: accept the fact that there's divine medical care and that they have to find a way to make their services worth what they charge, allowing the invisible hand of the free market to take its course, or we kill them.

The other healers are going to feel threatened, and since we're not going to be dealing with them, we just gave them time to prepare an attack against us. They may even try to go after us legally.
>>
>>44081922
We take out Harnost and it sends a clear message to other healers not to fuck with Calloway. Calloway doesn't even have the capacity to deal with every single injured person in Seaside at the same time. We need those other healers, too.
>>
>>44081922
And? Until they actually do, they've done nothing wrong. Do you want to hunt them down pre-emptively, based on the fact that they're healers, and one specific one has tried to shut down Calloway? They haven't committed any crimes yet.
>>
>>44081943
It also sends a clear message that we're a threat to them and that we're willing to deal with them violently and without involving the legal police force.
So their choice is to either accept our conditions, or band together to eliminate a common threat. A threat that is not only after their profits but also their lives.

Not all of them are going to simply roll over.
>>
“The other ones aren't guilty. Yet. We'll take care of Harnost, while Dolah plays defense.” Gabby nods her head and Eve doesn't appear to be too upset. You all quickly gather your equipment. You armor up and grab your weapon. You won't be able to bring Tornado with you on this one, because you'll probably be fighting in a building.

The six of you exit your waterfront warehouse and begin your trek towards Harnost's place of business. As you walk through the streets, leaving the poorer docks area and entering the more well-taken care of business sector, you turn to Gabby.

“Is it OK to leave those two guys back there unguarded?” She laughs before looking at you.

“Even if they could get loose and crawl away, they're permanently crippled. Unless,” she begins to laugh more “they get Calloway to heal them. Ahhhhhhh, irony is wonderful.”

When you reach the intersection where Harnost's place of business resides, you quickly check around the area. There don't seem to be any of the town guard around. That's good. Surrounding the entrance to the location are two men armored in breastplate, with sheathed great swords. On one of the balconies of Harnost's business is a bowman, watching the the streets. These guys are obviously on his payroll.

The building itself looks rather nice. You don't know how he was able to acquire the right to use the whole thing. He probably didn't build it himself. But that's something to ponder at a later date.

You and your allies gather to talk about how you're going to do this.

“Bust in, fuck 'em up?” Gabby looks to you as she says this.

“For a place this nice? A bit of finesse might be good. Fighting in the streets will be sure to attract attention. Let's keep it contained in the building.” Rowe gives you a look.

“And how are we supposed to get into the building?” Well, here comes the unpleasant part. You pull out the knife you picked up off the man who Calloway healed and bring it to your arm. You give yourself a long cut across your skin. Rowe mutters 'masochist' under her breath as she watches in horror as you do this. You can fix it later. You wrap your arm in some bandages that Gabby lends you and head out into the open, approaching the building in a quick rush. The bowman up top notices your group, armed and heading towards the front entrance. He nocks an arrow and gives a sharp whistle. The two men on the ground see you and put their hands on the pommels of their swords.

“Stop.” The shout at you as you're standing in the middle of the road.

“Help! My arm is bleeding. I need to be healed.” The two armed men look at each other as you raise your bloody, bandage-wrapped arm.

“You got gold?” You pick up a pouch at your side with your off-hand and jingle it. “Alright, approach.”
>>
You make it to the front entrance. “No weapons.” Shoot. That might be a problem. Except, you've got that dagger hidden behind your back, the revolver in your pocket and you can fight well enough unarmed. You're fine. You hand over your saber and shield. Thankfully Quissonce, Gabby and Eve don't carry weapons. And Kyra hands over three knives. You know she has more on her. Rowe gives up her bow. One of them heads inside the building, nodding for you to follow while the other will stay out here and watch your stuff.

The six of you follow the man as you head through the hallways towards a stairway at the back of the first floor that seems to snake its way up to the top floor. As he walks he asks you what happened and you quickly explain that as you were handling a live subject at the research library that you and your companions had recently brought back, it scratched you. He seems to believe the explanation. As you walk up the stairs Gabby looks at you and gestures with her head towards the guy.

You quickly nod your head no to her and she shrugs. You follow the man up to the third floor and then follow him down a rather wide hallway. It is lined with doors, but only one of them has a chair with multiple armed guards hanging about it. They also have a big dog on a leash. The man escorting you walks up to them and talks a bit with them. Then he gestures over to you, causing the men to look over at you all. There's about five of them altogether, including the one who escorted you. They motion for you to come forward. You walk up, leaving the rest of your companions about ten feet behind you.

“Fifty gold.” The sole man sittting down says to you as he sticks his hand out, the other holding the dog's leash. You take out the gold and give it to him. That sure is a lot of money for something Calloway is able to manage to do many times a day, every day for free. He counts the coins for a bit and then once he is sure it's all there, he raps on the doorway. “Harnost, someone looking to get healed out here.”

The door opens and out steps two more armed men that must have been standing just inside the room. They flank a third man with a large scar running across his right eye. He must be Harnost. He looks over to you and sees your arm wrapped in a bloody bandage. He walks over and takes your right arm, gingerly unwrapping the bandages. He definitely seems like he knows what he's doing. There are seven other armed men and a dog standing around as Harnost does this.

As he's unwrapping the bandage you decide to investigate a bit.

“So, tell me about the healing business. How's the competition?” He chortles a bit and looks you in the eye.

“Pretty good in the beginning. Been shit for a while now. But, uh, things are about to look up. Only four others really with my kind of abilities in town.” As he finishes unwrapping the bandage he throws the bloody thing in a nearby bucket. “And I think two of them are about to no longer be an issue. Then maybe the paydays will start being good again.”

He laughs once more as he pulls out a broach with one hand and places his other on your arm. You feel the healing energy start to sink into your flesh as your wound knits itself together. Now's the time to strike if there ever was one.

He never saw it coming. There's a reason you practice sleight of hand for a reason. Just as the last little trace of a cut disappears from your skin you pull the weapon out from behind your back and shove it into the side of his skull. You aren't exactly a master with daggers but you apply enough brute force to push through his head right into his brain matter. He looks at you with genuine surprise. Its the last look he'll ever have.

You slide the knife out. The guards are stunned for the first moment afterwards. Time almost seems to stand still. And then they rush to pull out their weapons.
>>
You back up as the one holding the dog's leash lets go. It leaps at you but you're able to kick it in mid-air into the arms of the first man coming at you. He catches the dog, dropping his sword only for you to rush up and shank him in the throat. As he falls back, dropping the dog and reaching for his throat as blood pours out of it, a throwing knife whizzes past you and lodges itself into the hand of a man with a warhammer.

You feel a crackle of energy behind you as the floor in front of you suddenly contains a slippery sheen. Two of the remaining six men slip on it, trying to move forward.

Gabby barrels past you and slides on the floor, her leg shooting up and kicking the man with the wounded hand in the groin, stopping herself by grabbing the head of one of the men on the ground, which she proceeds to slam into the floor.

The man with the great sword and two of his friends rush after you. You back up as he swings his large weapon. You keep yourself out of the reach of his weapon, backing up and looking for a chance to step in and shank him.

You hear Eve yell “Shut your eyes” from behind and some instinctual urge causes you to listen to her request. Even with your eyes closed you can see through your eyelids some bright splash of color and then hear three loud screams as the men in front of you hit the floor with loud THUNKS.

You open your eyes and see the three men are unconscious. You see Rowe walk up to the last combatant, still trying to get his feet under him as he tries to stand up on the oily floor. She punches him in the face and he goes down.

Harnost and two others are dead. The dog is unconscious. Four are unconscious. And one man is holding his groin asking perhaps the Great Will himself why he had to be kicked in the dick.

You walk over to the man screaming about his dick and apply your boot to his face. He's out cold for now. The ones you didn't kill can easily find themselves healed at Calloway's without cost.

“I'm heading downstairs to take care of the guy watching the front.” You start walking down the stairs.

“I'll come with.” Rowe speaks up as she walks with you. You see Quissonce and Eve searching the bodies while Kyra and Gabby search Harnost's room.

You make it to the first floor and walk out. The man watching the front must not have heard the commotion. He looks at you.

“So, Harnost fixed you up then –” you quickly sucker punch him, knocking him out cold. You catch his body and drag him inside before grabbing your saber and shield while Rowe picks up her bow. She quickly nocks an arrow and strides out in front, loosing it into the bowman standing on the third floor balcony. He falls off and lands in the middle of the street with a SPLAT. The two of you drag the corpse inside quickly and shut the front door. Rowe volunteers to watch the door and not let anybody leave until the rest of you want to head out.

You make it back to the rest of your companions who have finished up their search. All that was worth anything on Harnost was the broach he used for a holy symbol and his morning star, which seems to be of much higher quality than your average morning star. Kyra and Gabby exit his room holding a bunch of papers and a lock box that rattles with potential riches.

“Alright, let's get the fuck out now.” Gabby suggests as you gather in the hallway.

“Wait!” Eve shouts. “We should send a message or something. Like, hang his body out on the balcony. Show people not to fuck with us.” Eve seems heavily excited by this idea.

A long bow is for long range. You can't really use it in any distance where the enemy can reach you in 10 seconds. A recurve or short bow would fit better for mid to short range ranged combat.

I think this is still something illegal, even if this town is nominally a giant military base.

We should also try to determine which god Harnost was following.

“Eve, let's just leave.” Eve gives up her really stupid idea and the rest of you start moving down the stairs with your trophies. You quickly move to the man with the greatsword and undo his breastplate as quickly as possible. Gabby helps you and soon you're carrying it with you. You meet up with Rowe who opens the door and you all scram in different directions, planning to meet back up at the waterfront warehouse in an hour.

You have just a short enough amount of time to do something.

Probably shouldn't go right back to the chapel in case anyone would faintly recognize us from having just walked away from the murder galore house and think the priest involved, even though I want to check on Dolah and Calloway. I would like to see how much, besides the entry fee, we spend at the magicians guild before we go on a shopping spree and find we cant buy the awesome this or that. Time to head to the Winchester and let this all blow over.

Time for pie! You head over to Bartom's stall which happens to be close enough to The Sword and Shield for you to grab yourself a drink as well. Bartom sells the pies for 2 silvers each. You'd swear that was unreasonable if they weren't delicious and you weren't rolling in money. Bartom waves to you as you walk over. You give him the money and he pushes a pie towards you.

“Shame about that mishap this morning at the chapel.” You stop chewing as you look at Bartom. He chuckles. “Word travels fast around here. Good to see Calloway's okay though. He's pretty much the nicest guy in town. Whoever tried to kill him must be some no-good monster. Although,” Bartom's eyes narrow a tad as he leans forward. “plenty of people good at killing monsters around here. Doubt it'll be a problem for much longer.” Bartom goes to swipe a few crust crumbs off of his wooden stall, switching back into his much more laid-back personality.

You're getting the strong suspicion Bartom might do a little more than just bake pies.

While finishing your pie, you decide to probe a little bit. “Yeah, Father Calloway seemed a bit shook up about the whole thing. He might take a break for a while. Would be fortunate for the other healers in town.” Bartom laughs a bit.

“Eh, not for Harnost I think. And Deliria might not feel that way either.” You haven't heard that name before.

“Who's Deliria?”

“Another healer in town. She decided to jump in bed with Harnost though. In both a business sense and a personal sense. Heard she was planning to pack it up and work for him. Although, who knows what she'll be planning tomorrow.” You understand that look. That's a warning if you ever heard one.

Enough of this though. Your pie is finished and it's time for a drink. You make a quick walk over to the Sword and Shield tavern to grab yourself a pint. You sit in the bar and pass most of the hour in silence as the noises and commotion in the bar blare around you.

You head back to the warehouse on the waterfront and meet with the rest of your group. Kyra has popped open the lock box. It contained 90 platinum pieces. So that's 900 gold. Eve and Quissonce were able to sell the morningstar and the broach for 360 gold. 1260 gold split six ways is 210 gold each. Nowhere close to the haul you pulled from your legitimate employment, but this was about so much more than the reward money. It's about noon now. What's the plan?

You inform the rest of your group at the warehouse about Deliria, explaining that she's Harnost's girlfriend and may have a grudge against you once she figures out you're the ones who killed him. Rowe and Kyra tell you they're going to head over and check out some sort of fighter's guild, Eve and Quissonce say they're going to be in The Sword and Shield and Gabby's going down to the beach after she disposes of the two guys in the back.

You feel like Dolah and Calloway should hear that the coast is clear for the moment at least. You leave the docks and head over to the west side of town where the chapel is. Services seem to have started again and Calloway is currently on a ladder trying to pry the bullet out of the ceiling while Dolah stands guard – from the dangers of assailants and falling. You quickly drop off your hide armor before equipping your nice, new breastplate. By the time your room is in order, Father Calloway is holding the bullet in his hands. You approach them. Dolah speaks first.

“You were gone for quite some time. Was Gabby able to uncover who sent those assassins?” She looks ready to spring into action. Oops?
>>
“Yeah, she was able to make them talk.”

“Good, now we'll find the guards and help bring the perpetrator to jus –”

“We already took care of it.” Dolah looks at you stunned. Then she frowns. Calloway looks solemn.

“Did you kill them?” he asks you. You nod your head.

“Some of them. Others we left unconscious.” Dolah looks quite angry.

“It was her idea wasn't it?” You look at her a bit confused. “Gabby. She suggested you deal with the problem yourselves rather than contact the proper authorities, correct?” Technically. Eve's plan seemed a lot more ethically ambiguous. Before you can give her a proper answer, Dolah storms out of the church. Calloway turns to you.

“For what it is worth, I thank you for saving my life today.” You warn him he may not be entirely safe yet. He still has three potential rivals out there who may decide one day to remove him from the picture. Although, at least one of them is probably going to be gunning for you instead of Calloway if Bartom's information is at all trustworthy.

Well, this didn't go particularly well. What next?

You put this off for an entire week waiting for Eve. You can't wait any longer. You head to The Sword and Shield, finding Eve and Quissonce sitting in a booth in the corner.

“I told you he was pure!” Eve shouts as she sticks her hand out and Quissonce puts a couple clinking gold coins in her hand. They notice you walking over. “Speaking of my apprentice! Heard you waited for your master's return. If there's one thing I can appreciate Alan, it is loyalty!” You look over to Quissonce.

“You two ready?” She smirks.

“Born ready. Let's do this.” They get up from their table and pay their tab, before the three of you exit and walk towards the giant tower that dominates Seaside's skyline.

It actually isn't in the more ritzy area of town, despite it having such a costly entrance fee. As you get closer in your approach it becomes more and more looming of a presence. You're practically shaking with anticipation. And you only believed in magic for a little less than a month now. You can't imagine what Quissonce and Eve must be going through.

You can almost feel the hum of magical energy in the air near the tower. It feels powerful. Quissonce can't contain herself.

“I actually can't believe it. Thirty odd years of delving old ruins, libraries and learning all these useless, time-wasting procedures and it all pays off right here right now.” Eve chimes in.

“Yeah. No more waiting. This is it. We're about to be official Circle-brand mages.”

You come up to the pristine, marble steps that lead up to the front entrance of the tower. You check your pockets just to be sure Kyra didn't steal all your money at the last minute. Nope, money's all there. You'll pay the entrance fee and your mind will be expanded by a whole new wealth of opportunities. You look at that staircase.

You take the first step

So is Seaside a quasi-military base with a lot of civilian contractors providing on-base services?
Is Blackburn a kind of military governor?
What's the legality of us, as soldiers, straight up killing people who don't seem to be other soldiers but are instead some kind of private military contractor?

I thought this island and the town here were some kind of state secret.
>>
>>44085867
long term military bases before refrigeration were surrounded by serfs to supply the military with food and basic supplies.
>>
>>44085867
Officially, it's a colony. All the armed soldiers and guards are ex-Army, ex-Navy or civilian recruited. You yourself had to officially be discharged from the Army to come here. Blackburn is simply the Overseer of the colony. He has contact with the parliament of Ceril and could request for military aid, but generally he just recruits civilians.

Legally, you had no authority to do what you did. Your job functions as a form of explorer/adventurer and is meant for outside the city.

The island is top secret and only a few people on the mainland know about its existence. Renault is one of them. Some top officials in Ceril are some others. Faraday's crew travels back and forth between the two so they know.
>>
>>44085971
I guess I just find it odd that the military wouldn't just make this a military base instead of a civilian colony when the entire island is supposed to be a national secret. I assume that once a civilian comes to this island, they can't leave for national security purposes.
>>
>>44086022
Oh yeah. You're fucking stuck here. It also happens to function like a giant prison in a way. There's no way off except if you tried to hitch a ride with Faraday.
>>
>>44085789
Guys, did you realize that one other healer will be murdered today? Because Harnost said that two competitors will not be a problem for long.

And to the anon who wanted to bring a lance to Harnost: A lance is a use-only-once weapon for a cavalry charge, it is useless for any other fight and especially if you are on foot.
>>
>>44088916
A lance can also be used against enraged large animals since it can be used as a long spear.
