Hey guys, let me know when you are here
>>
>>44109299
Miellewds-guy here.

Will the Lapsionian king's decision be announced soon?
Will Eldric finally go to Black Lakes to look for investment opportunities?
And did we get a chance to set up a meeting in the Empire about bringing wayward colonies back under Imperial control?
>>
Sorry about starting late. New medicine makes me super sleepy, and I take it a little bit before thread normal start time. Yesterday I thought "oh its an hour still, I can probably rest a little" and today it almost repeated itself but I managed to pull myself up, fortunately

>>44109656
>Will the Lapsionian king's decision be announced soon?
We still need to go to an event and a dinner, then it will be a few days

>Will Eldric finally go to Black Lakes to look for investment opportunities?
I will propose it after we are done here, I guess

>And did we get a chance to set up a meeting in the Empire about bringing wayward colonies back under Imperial control?
We haven't, but I suspect that Ren may offer it as a wedding gift if we agree to marry her for it. The general may disagree on the rationale of sending the army in to get a husband, but eh, its still hard to say no to Ren's face

Let's see if anyone else shows up, and hey, if we do end up recovering Alquia as part of the empire, it could be called the United Empire, and we could set a base for a far future of the game, you know?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sw6pHoWgKaE
>>
>>44109795
Alquia always makes a big deal about still being part of the Empire. I find it amusing to reaffirm all of their political rhetoric and seeing them scrambling to make up excuses to not get re-absorbed.
>>
>>44109795
>I suspect that Ren may offer it as a wedding gift if we agree to marry her for it.
>>44109795
What about marrying Mako?
Will either of the two plans interfere with each other?
>>
>>44110044
Yeah, furthermore, all this time, I havent been able to decide if the Alquian seneschal... whats the "not arabian" equivalent... Vizir!

Even though I've had what... 2 years now? I still can't decide if the Vizier is good, evil, or misguided.

He's willing to kidnap a scared little girl/princess
-> To raise her into an empress who can unify the fractured people he's meant to care for.

His previous attempt along these lines was to give the warring nobles a common enemy they could gain fame and prestige fighting against in order to unify them as a people.
-> This lead to the destruction of many lesser nations who simple were in the way, the displacement of millions of refugees, and the actual loss of norther territories as the most unruly northern tribes finally seceded from the empire and began tribal wars.

He would honestly welcome Mako or Ren as a new Padishah (Supreme/High/Master) Empress of a United Empire, and would actually serve her well, but he pretty much sins in the same way grandpa does. He's pretty shortsighted when it comes to long term consequences for his actions, and the nobles are far from "under control"

When the former Minister of the Left fled from the empire unto Alquiia, he welcomed him because he honestly didn't know the man. He thought they shared the desire for a unified empire under a Padishah Empress, so he's been sheltering him without knowing that the former minister actually wanted to become emperor himself. Technically, the Minister of the Left and the Vizier were both charged with the same job as "administrators under the Empress", and he honestly trusted the guy since he only had the info the former minister sent him through letters and now his own narrative version of what happened in the empire.

1/?
>>
>>44110428

So, I really don't know what to do with the Vizier. Maybe I should have the ex Minister assassinate and replace him? I really don't know what to think of the vizier and how to characterize him.

I... think he's not 'evil'. He's a honest man trying to be loyal to his office and responsibilities. The problem is, he's a man with great power... a normal honest man with great power, and his office required a Great Man, if you know what I mean. He would have been fine as what he was meant to be and do if the imperial bloodline hadn't gone extinct on Alquia. As a loyal administrator who simply needed to follow the moral compass of his empress, he would have been fine, but he was suddenly through into a position of leadership that was... too big for him.

Reminds me a little of General Li, the imperial high general under Ren. He's honest and courageous and loyal, but if Ren and Mako dissapeared and suddenly he was in charge, I don't know if he could get the job done, you know?

Also, if the United Empire evolves that way into a far future, does that mean the shadows evolve this way?

>Vizier
I can't blame the man for not getting the memo that the Minister has been removed from office, since we neglected to send out said memo to all of the Imperial colonies. Nor can I blame him for serving the Minister, as that's what the organizational chart says he's supposed to do.

But the short-sightedness and just complete bungling of operations, letting good intentions flounder into a humanitarian crisis that it was his job to prevent, those things I can't forgive.
Good intentions is no excuse for being a colossal fuckup, and the same goes for Grandpa Lightbringer. I suppose what makes the entire situation so infuriating for Eldric is that he can see Grandpa's stats, the enormously high Wis and Int, and his support group of the Pope and a retired demi-god, and he STILL manages to fuck things up. On top of that, he's flippant about the situation and blames the nobles for everything going wrong when he's the one who started the entire chain reaction, and that he shows no remorse, regret, or attempts to fix the problems that he's created.
>>
>>44110543
A common, normal man trying to do the right thing in spite of what is expected of him from society at large and failing because of his mediocrity is a tragedy and a comedy, good story of a man's humanity and of life.

But when it's not just a story but a real situation for the characters, they shouldn't be expected to just feel sorry for the man and forgive him his transgressions. He has a responsibility and he failed it. That failure must be publicly displayed and all under him made to understand their part in this monumental failure.
>>
>>44110314
>What about marrying Mako?
Yes, the imperial culture follows a matriarchy. Ren can have multiple consorts if she wants to, but the idea of a male (human, elf, beastkin or anything else) marrying both throne candidates and becoming the new emperor by default would basically throw their regligion, social order and even their percepcion of the order of existence down the drain. I should have said "instead of Mako" I guess.

Right now, Ren doesn't really has any plans to snatch Eldric from Mako, both because she loves Mako and wants to see her happy, and because she doesn't really understarn this marriage concept that our culture has. Like I said, completely matriarchal. The bloodlines are inherited through the females, which honestly makes more sense, IMHO.

A man is never 100% absolutely completely definitively sure that the child he's holding in his arms is his. A woman, however, is.

>>44110669
>But the short-sightedness and just complete bungling of operations, letting good intentions flounder into a humanitarian crisis that it was his job to prevent, those things I can't forgive.

Like I said, he's not evil. He may even be pretty competent... as a vizier. But not as an absolute ruler. Just a regular good/honest man in a position that required a GREAT man.

The job was just too big for him. History will probably say he was a villain.

As for grandpa.. he buys a bit too much into the hero myth. I based granpa off a scene of the Quijote. Don Quijote was riding down a road when he saw a line of men chained to a giant rock, left to starve to death and be attacked by wild animals and the weather, so he let them free and gave them succor and help.

1/?
>>
>>44110837

When he arrived at the city, it turns out those were criminals who had been judged for terrible crimes and sentenced to that fate. Don Quijote said "I don't care. I saw suffering people, so I helped them. A knight's duty is to do good and to help to those in need regardless of their beliefs, backgrounds or past deeds, and anyone who disagrees will answer to my sword."

>>44110755
>But when it's not just a story but a real situation for the characters, they shouldn't be expected to just feel sorry for the man and forgive him his transgressions. Yeah, but we haven't gotten to that yet. I think it will be interesting to arrive at Alquia expecting a mustacoe-twirling villain with a black cape and hat, and find a kindly old man who can barely walk with a cane was their "big bad" all along. Bonus ´points because he's actually genuinely happy to see Mako or Ren actually coming to take over.

"Conquering us? but we always were your loyal subjects!"
>>
>>44110908

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US2nyRgg-SY

Basically grandpa, except tremendously powerful instead of withered and fragil. Basically "what would have happened if Don Quijote actually had the power to fully chase his belief/dreams"
>>
>>44110908
>we always were your loyal subjects!
"Loyal subjects are expected to send letters requesting a royal's presence, not send half-rate thugs to kidnap her!"
Eldric gets enough of this from Grandpa.
>>
>>44110997
What if he did, and sent them through 'the proper channels' too, and got an official answer from those proper channels.

Can you guess who the proper channels are? I bet you can.

alternatively, at that point the kindly old man gets so upset that he has a heart attack.

Anyway, how many people do we have? 2? should we start?
>>
>>44110997
Or another one:
"Loyal subjects don't attack the allies of their sovereign!"
Or
"Loyal subjects don't harbor and aid traitors to the Throne!"
"So the first thing you did with rock-it ship technology WASN'T to send a courier back to the Empire to request orders and military assistance against seditious provinces, but to use them against Imperial allies. Hardly the actions of loyal subjects."

It is not enough for the vizier to be removed from office for his failures; he must be made to face the full enormity of his ineptitude.
>>
>>44111322
The "proper channels" said to send a group of thugs to collect the princess, instead of sending a carriage. And instructed that they should kidnap her and manhandle the princess instead of presenting themselves with sealed orders that they are to escort the princess to the capital.

And he had no suspicions about such inappropriate instructions?
Not seeing much reason to sympathize, here.
>>
>>44110997
We may as well go over getting new clothes for the harpies and administrative stuff at home and at the office, since those are decisions that aren't too important and we can get them out of the way.
>>
>>44111452
Whoops, meant to link >>44111322
>>
>>44111383
Like I said, he did meant to kidnap her, if 'for her own good'

He always meant to raise her as a new empress for Alquia, Not a great man, just a man... and wouldnt it be fun if Eldric got a message from the vizier along the lines of "the minister of the left has died, please send a new representative/ruler to replace him with"

Remember, we already stablished that when Ren expulsed him from the empire, he fled to Alquia, where he was welcomed. But we didn't know that all along, the alquian vizier thought that the minister was there as a imperial representative, so it could be like this

>Minister of the Left (from now on simply 'the minister') organizes the assassination of empress Noriko and her shadows

>Mako is sent to study to the eastern continent because there was way too much attention on the last two princesses to take the risk of another assassination. This was probably General Li keepin an eye on the minister after the guy suddenly became a default 'seneschal of the empire until the imperial princess Ren comes of age'

>Minister notifies Alquia about the princess vulnerable state. Even better, he could, since he's the vizier's trusted 'friend', that he suspects more assassination attempts will follow the princess despite he "hiding her across the ocran for her own protection" and how he hopes the vizier will protect her

>Vizier decides to kidnap her for her own good

>All this time, though, the vizier is convinced the minister is a good guy

>Minister is banished

1/?
>>
>>44111715

>He arrives into Alquia and explains how the enemy has kidnapped the empress! evil evil Eldric Lightbringer is holding the empress AND princess hostage! it is all the vizier's fault because he couldnt beat them in war nor could he at least kidnap/rescue/hide Mako

>Minister of the left traditionally has more authority than the vizier of the colonies. Minister takes over.

>Decision on what to do with the new technologies came from the minister, who was preparing to assault the imperial city of Mantequira and "rescue" the imperial peincesses.

>Of course, he meant for both of them to 'accidentally get killed' during this, or even better, 'to be killed by the enemy'

>Minister dies before this happens. Vizier decides to send someone to take a look at the actual situation, or to try and contact whoever the new Minister of the Left is.

It's Eldric. We get a letter from the vizier basucally asking "what IS going on over there?"

Or we can just have the vizier be a villain, whatever you guys prefer. Ive been playing with both ideas for 2 years now, after all.

Maybe the minister hasn't died? maybe we DO invade Alquia and straighten things up over there.
>>
>>44111774
No, I want the Vizier to not be a villain.
Just so Eldric can point to him as an example to Grandpa, "Look Grandpa, this is you. Either take your job seriously and put that Wis and Int to use, or formally step down so I can start cleaning up your mess. Sorry, Alard. I need things cleaned up faster than you can possibly achieve. Gotta war to prepare for, you know."
>>
>>44111774
i like the idea of a patriot

he's a guy who knows his country a falling from the inside trying to save his people by doing what ever he can
>>
>>44111906
I really like that idea

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzgpY9Fx2xE

Anyway lets see... get some clothes for the harpies, then go to dinner with the leader of the noblee's faction in Lapsiona, then go to a ball in the palace, and finally receive the opinion of the court (not just the king, since the nobles have a lot of power too)

Then we could choose between going to Blacklake or begin preparing to deal with Alquia. And it looks like we will find them welcoming us (as long as we go as the Imperial Fleet, not the Protectorate's fleet) then begin realizing the political mess inside the Alquian Empire, maybe get to talk with the vizier on his death bed. I think it would be cool if we found out that he died smiling on his palanquin as he saw the imperial fleet approaching the shores, or maybe gets to look at Mako (or Ren?) before he dies.
>>
>>44112058
If the Vizier dies, then Eldric will call him an irresponsible patriot.

Eldric is already 45 years old, mentally, and gone through two lifetimes. He will believe he has the right, via life experience, to criticize the failures and inadequacies of other old men.

Anyway, starting...
***
Even though it looks like nobody cares if we herd a group of naked winged beauties down the street, we still feel better keeping them inside our menagerie as we move along Albion's commercial district and towards master Tazar's shop.

I have the rather strong impression that people in this world are too affected by the "common sense" the gods seem to have had at the moment of their creation. Monsters are meant to be naked, it is natural, nobody cares. Dancers are meant to have extravagant and sensual attire, just the way things are, nobody cares,,,

Well, its not as if we are against it,,,
...but we are still keeping the harpies away on the street.

Usually, the front of master Tazar's shop is unmanned, with our dwarven friend working on something a few dozen feet in the back, either bend over a bench or working on a wooden mannequin, using it to adjust and check how this or that will actually hang from a body once it is finished.

This time, however, we dind a rather tall and busty dark skinned elf manning the counter. Looking at her for a monent, we see

Zahira level 3 craftsman/level 23 slave

She has dark brown skin and light brown long hair. She's wearing a very fine looking kamisk with exquisite details on the edges. Even though it is a very simple garment that would be perfectly acceptable on a slave, we are willing to bet that it was made by our dwarven friend, for elegance, sensuality and beauty are all present in a well balanced and harmonious whole.

She looks rather happy, and greets us politely as we come in.

"Good evening, young sir. How can I help you?" -she smiles with her pointy ears perked up

"..good evening. Is master Tazar around?"

The harpies may be all grown up, but they're still children. Then wander about and tug on our sleeves and try to get attention and lean over the desk to peek at what's on the other side and try to leave for the street (Aritsu stops them) and fight over who gets to sit on the only couch and complain about being hungry/thirsty/bored/sleepy

Yeah... they're definitively still children.

"Well... master Tazar does get a lot of unique orders... " -the elf seems to be okay with it- "So, let me take their measurements. Please bring them this way, one at the time. They don't bite, right?"
"...no, they don't"

At that moment

"Master, Nina bit my left wing tip!" -cries Rose as she pulls from our sleeve
"It was just a friendly nibble!"

Zahyra gives us a 'look'

"They're just playing."
"...alright."

Well, the harpies are quite different from each other despite being sisters... if they are all born at the same time, does that make them twins in some way? we were a engineer, not a biologist

Oribably not? we have some with black, red, green and even blue or pink hair and feathers so...

Anyway, we start with Rose since she is already at hand and its the smallest of the flock.
She weights basically less than out chestplace as we carry her to the platform and Zahyra starts measuring her.

"Ah, excuse me?" -we ask her
"Yes?"
"Which unit of measurement do you use?"
"Gnome thumbs"
"...thanks."

Yes, we need to spread some good metric around this region.

"So, do you have something in mind already, or would you like to see some sketchbooks?" -the elf asks as she measures Rose and writes down the numbers

Right, I got them confused, Poor Adrianna

I was too busy thinking about them ambushing Eldric for cuddles and hugs as he goes into his room. He would look at Nina as she is sitting on top of the bed with a plate of milk and cookies, and then notice all the other harpies have him flanked from both sides, and go "clever girl" as they pounce to play with him

So, its down to a short summer dress vs a leotard and shorts, then? I feel like that would be a fighting game character design

"Do you want it in a specific material?"
"Cotton would be nice" -of course, in this world, cotton is a rather luxurious product, but we really dont like the feel of most fabrics, and silk is just too delicate
"Alright. We are done with this one, next please"

We send Rose back into our menagerie and call forth the next one.

"How long should the skirt be?"
"2:1:4, the golden ratio"
"W-?"
"Ah, I was thinking in stockings but those would be for winter. About mid thigh would be fine"
"Alright"

Once all the harpies are done with and we are about ready to go, our dwarven friend comes to the front of the shop and greet us. Uhmm, should we get something for Aritsu since she came with us?

"Hello master Taazar"
"Ah, the young lord! how have you been? what bring you here?"
"Well, your assistant already took care of it, but since you are here, could you help me with something more complex?"
"Of course"

"Princess, please come here" -somehow, it feels like a term of endearment, doesn't it?
"Yes, what is it?" -the blonde princess blushes a little
"Please step unto the platform. Master Tazar, could you help me with an idea for this beautiful princess?"

*A little bit later*

"And you call this a business suit?" -the dwarf says while looking at our sketch

We were never the artistic type in our previous life, but we are surprisingly good at it now. I wonder if we inherited it from mom? dad is not the artistic type, and we never really worked on this talent. Maybe its an effect of our high charishma? that would be used for 'perform' right? or would this be a 'craft' skill? actually, we haven't seen such things on our sheet, but...

"Yes, the shirt has to be silk. It opens up like this..." -we give it a very fluffy and deep V cut- "But there's not that much actual cleavage with the jacket on."
"C-cleavage!?" -the elven princess says nervously from where she is.

Of course we aren't letting her peek. Its funnier this way

"And the skirt is only this long?" -Master Tazar adds in, having noticed how much fun we have when teasing Aritsu, even though it is not that short at all really.
"Right. And it rides on her hips like this..."

Yah, we are pretty good at sketching. Maybe we could pick it up as a hobby.

"What are these shoes called?"
"High heels"
"Do they serve any purpose?"

"Alright"

"President?"
"Don't worry, we are just talking about shoes"
"Oh! ...oh, alright"

Honestly, the shoe industry on either side of the ocean is in diapers compared to what we were used to. Most non-armored footwear was at the stage of a soft but thick leather sock like that of the elf in Record of Lodoss.

"I think I've seen wooden shoes before"
"No, just the sole. The rest would be leather"
"Sole?"
"Yes, let me show you..."

Again, we are actually pretty good at drawing... yeah, we definitively could make this into a hobby. We draw a vertical cut of the shoe we have in mind, and Tazar nods continuously as we do so.

By the way, this is also why we usually wear our combat boots. They feel quite close to safety shoes of the tyoe you'd wear on a construction site or factory.

And considering the poor workmanship of shoes, this would also be why people in some latitudes seem to completely aboid them, I guess?

"How long do you think it will be?"

Tazar checks the orders.

"The dresses... I can make them right now. The suit will need at least a week, and maybe another week for the first shoe prototype... let's say a month. Its something completely new so it will require some testing. I normally make clothes worrying about how they will hang on the body. These need to support the body instead."
"I think that's fair enough. Can I take the dresses now?"
"Sure"

Tazar uses his [Craft] skill to make the harpies simple, light summer dresses in a moment, according to the measurements Zahyra took earlier.

Lets give them to the harpies later. Clothes or not, I still dont want 10 hyperactive cute girls running all over the street.

"Thank you. I will come back in a month"
"I will be expecting you" -says our dwarven friend
"Please have a nice day" -says the elf, while bowing deeply as we leave

"President..." -says Aritsu, somewhat worried
"Eldric"
"But..."
"Eldric"
"Uhnn... " -she makes this cute troubled moan
"Alright, what is it?"
"What is a suit?"
"This really cute tight and small thing. Remember the swimsuits? like that but you don't swim on it" -we playfully lie to her
"Uhnnn....!" -she complains softly, getting red to the tip of her ears.
