In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

The men of the Chapter have discovered genestealer infestation on the world of San Larion in the perifery of Sector Deus. Genestealer, foulest of the aliens, inflicted painful losses on the Chapter, but the victory was ours.

After an intense duel between Brethorius and Alpha Purestrain, Brethorius fell, but his brothers saved him and finished off mortally wounded beast, then proceeded to execute the genestealer Patriarch, decapitating the cult and allowing cleansing to begin.
+++
Please roll d50%(+5 suits) for how many suits of armour will you manage to retrieve from the brothers who died during the initial ambush. [out of 31 suit]

How do you conduct the cleansing of the planet until Inquiition arrives?

How about geneseed?

As for cleansing of the planet. I'd say just maintain security at key locations until the Inquisitor arrives. Make sure everyone on the planet knows that if they cause any unrest we will show no mercy.

Also before the year turns I'd like to start training another 5 apothecaries, 5 techmarines and 2 more chaplains for a total cost of about 60 wealth.
>>
>>44210911
Welcome Brother! Join us in the Voxcaster so that our minds may become one and strike with a clarity and unity so we may purge the Xeno, the Heretic and the Mutant.
>>
>>44210934
Let's see

I vaguely recall there was a operation to gas out some tunnels or something
There's still that purestrain that needs to be purged

Other than that what's the general outlook on the planet? Do we know more about the supposed civil war?
>>
>>44210975
Ahm as said in chat, if we recover geneseed I want each sample checked by every apothecary individually, lest we get 4 armed marines.

30% = 10
10 +5 = 15 of the suits were deemed by Techmarine Seran to be of good enough condition to be salvaged and repaired, you may add them to Chapter Inventory

>Spend 5-10 wealth to give Brethorius the very best Augmetics. Have an artist give it a beautiful diorama of him fucking up the Primaris Purestrain.
He is fine without additional augmetics, unless you want to use this as an opportunity to upgrade him. This amount of money would allow you to cover his chest in literal adamantite armour with diorama etched onto it. Mechanically it would add +10 TH to him, but decrease his AG by -5.

>perhaps we can spend 6 or so wealth opening up soup kitchens to help public relations.
Do you still want to do this? If you do, roll d100 and tell me who administers the operation

>give a speech that thanks all for their support, announce that Mr.B is wounded and give Quintor an Mr.B a mark of recorgnition
All of the Chapter rejoices in our victory at San Larion. While losses are not light, this was one of the most serious enemies we faced and we prevailed over them!

Also, please roll 2d10 for the amount of the geneseed retrieved from dead brothers. Unfortunately genestealer style of combat doesn't leave much behind...

Okay.
I'm pretty sick of this sector apparently liking us yet getting absolutely nothing out of it. We bleed and bleed for this backwater but are given nothing in return by the people we protect.

So how about this: from now on every planet pays us 2 wealth per year or they get no help from us should they need it. Hive worlds can pay 5wpy because of massive population, forge and agri worlds are exempt.

It's about time we actually get paid for doing our job.

>civil war
There's no unrest in the planet currently. The only clear thing is that Don Siempre and his regime was greatly weakened and if you would leave immediately, his enemies might use the chance to strike and take power.

It takes a few weeks until Laertos Karr, Inquisitor serving with Ordo Xeno finally arrives. He is a tall man of undecipherable age, his face bears no mark of anything resembling human empathy, but when he sees you, his lips smile:
>You have done a fine job here, Chapter Master. Genestealers are among the most potent threats facing the Imperium, their infestations are not only very hard to detect and prevent, but once they erupt, there's almost no chance of ever getting the world back without decimating it... Well, but thanks to you San Larion is spared, at least for now. I've taken the liberty to requisition additional forces from Nobis, it will take us some years to purge the population of all remnants of the infection. And even then, we can never be sure - the planet is still only partly colonised, there are many places where enemy could hide. I was also notified that there's a minor xeno presence here... I think that warrants a separate investigation as well. Nonetheless, I wouldn't want to intrude upon your battlefield. What are your own views on what should be done with the planet? I can't promise that Inquisition will follow through with your suggestions, but we are interested to hear what you think.
>>
>>44211411
Ehhh do we even really care about this planet?
>>
>>44211411

>What are your own views on what should be done with the planet? I can't promise that Inquisition will follow through with your suggestions, but we are interested to hear what you think.

"We need to ensure that the population is clean. Requisition for your Ordo to send equipment to test every citizen and execute every one that refuses to be analyzed. Also we have quite a few excellent genestealer specimens for you to take as a gift to the Ordo, these genestealers might be a unique and powerful strain as their Primaris almost took out one of my finest warriors after he nearly mortally wounded it first."
>>
>>44211411
Suggestion:

Dear Mr. Karr
We are space marines. We fight the enemy where we see it. We are not well equipped to handle an enemy we do not see, nor do we have the resources to monitor a whole planet. Furthermore, as our chapter is quite young, this is our first fight against genestealers and as such we would like to lay the matter into more capable hands. So the decision is yours, should you find yourself in need, feel free to contact us.
With the emperors blessings,

"The infection could have spread far. I'd recommend screening the population and sterilising any found to be carrying it. Without the patriarch they are at no risk of being controlled but offspring could culminate in hybrids.

As for the infection persisting, only purestrains have the capability to infect new specimins so they present to only risk after the population has been screened. The genestealers are feral now though, without the control of the patriarch, so they should follow instinct and try to hunt. This will inevitably draw them back to settlements so as long as vigilance is maintained they reveal themselves to be destroyed.

As for the native xenos, I don't think a true investigation is warranted as it seems to be a straightforward territorial dispute between the Imperium and the Tsai and their human allies. Supporting the imperial forces already here would tip the balance and push the aliens back, with any luck simply to the point where they run away completely."

a) just long enough to prevent civil war and for Don Siempre to get back onto the throne (1 year)
b) long enough to allow the planet to rebuild (5 years)
c) Xeno threat is present here, station the troops for as long as necessary to ensure peace - at least one generation to weed out the hybrids (20+ years)

The longer you stay, the greater the reward.

>>44211672
Brethorius' face shines almost as brightly as his new torso. It is fabulous, nothing less than a piece of art - numerous artisans worked on it for weeks, polishing the metal to create diorama of the intense battle on San Larion. Brethorius is depicted as the hero champion struggling with the Alpha, Quintor meanwhile on the sidelines helps him by finishing the Patriarch, with the rest of the brothers fighting in the background... Cost - 5W (please apply +10TH, -5AG modifier).

I'd say b. Assign one sternguard squad and one vanguard squad for 5 years.

We need to do something to secure the immediate future, but, with respect, I am against a prolonged stay as we cannot bind our resources in this war-ridden sector to only one planet.

C) Lets leave two squads with two Deathwatch Veterans leading each. This should be for 20 years.

I also want the Inquisitor to take a marine of his choosing onto his retinue to return in 5 years.

Your treasurer Averon Birg requests an audience with you.
My lord, I have finished the task of categorising, measuring, and adding all the assets aquired from San Larion to our Chapter Treasury.
I also took the liberty to open a new account in the treasury, a so-called Economical Account. I have already allocated 30% from both the freshly acuired assets, and the tribute from Artoria, and. With your permission, I would like to continue so with every form of monetary gain we recieve in the future.
The two accounts generally have two purposes, each on it's own. The General Account is for everything that you might require to accomplish your sacred mission; weapons, armor, new ship, defenses, and so on.
Meanwhile, assets wired to the Economic Account are for all activities that help us gain more, so we could keep our operations going. Everything that would require an investment, for us to spend money, in order to gain. Like upgrading our mining facilities, or building new ones, getting trade agreements, financing projects. It shoul all go from the Economic Account.
Of course m'lord -he adds meekly not presuming to command you- at the end of the day it's still your and the Chapter's wealth to command, and you can spend it to your heart's content. However as you treasurer, I must advise you on the most useful ways to do so, and I think this might be the solution to our struggling finances on the long run.

It's your choice inquisitor. Know the enemy, kill the enemy. If we understood more of its biology we could better recognise and counter it. However I have no real experience in such things so I'll defer to your judgement. Shall I have all remains burned?

Alderon, once a proud noble of the Belladon dynasty, enters the meeting hall with his head bowed. While of noble blood by birth, Alderon’s true nobility can be witnessed in the way he cast off his material wealth and prestige of social class in order to be closer to the Emperor. It’s been a few years now that he spent living as a scholar-serf with the Chapter, but despite his high origins, he never complained about his cold cell, tasteless protein-rich pasta or militarised daily routine. He bows before you:
>Milord, I have completed the task you asked of me. It wasn’t easy, I had to order scrolls to be delivered from as far as Terra in order to decipher the mysteries of these artifacts, but I believe that I finally found the answers we sought. The gold statue you retrieved from the enemy depicts Saint Drusus, a minor Imperial Saint, hailing from the nearby Calixis Sector. It took me so long to identify it for sure because of the fact that Saint Drusus is usually depicted either as a general of the Imperial Guard or, more commonly, as a Saint after his Ascension. This statue was remade a few times and some of the ornaments and decorations on it are clearly later additions, which don’t have any real meaning, but after those are removed we see that the statue simply depicts him as a kneeling man dressed in simple robes. The only real indicators to his identity are the often-recorded scar on his brow from his campaigns against the Yu’vath and his personal motto inscribed on the robe – “Timor Domini”, which in Low Gothic (he explains to other non-Astartes in the room) means “Fear the Lord”.
>>
>>44212760
>Nonetheless this doesn’t seem like an idol and this statue wasn’t meant for worshipping. Why would then the sculptor use gold to make it? Well, milord, as you are aware I was cursed with the powers of the witch, but with your permission and Imperial sanctioning I’ve probed the statue on the Other Plane. The gold which was used seems to be surprisingly active and seems to be a sort of a conduit. While I can only guess to the origins of the statue, I have two theories about the purpose of it. My first guess was that it could have been used to contact Saint Drusus back when he was still alive, possibly by some close allies of his. On the other hand it could have been created by his enemies, possibly even the Yu’vath, to be used against him as a psychic weapon. Today it’s mostly an interesting relic with little practical value. What would you like to do with it?

What do you want to with the statue of Saint Drusus?
a) Let’s sell it, gold always has value [+d10W]

>Meanwhile the sword was a lot more straightforward to examine. It took some time to penetrate the mists of deception, but I think I’ve managed to do it. This sword was once wielded by a very powerful, very ambitious warlord, I can still feel his aura on it. However the sword is cursed with the remnants of that man’s Fate. The one who wields it will not be damaged by those who have lesser dreams or ambitions than him, but his dreams will start turning him mad. This sword calls itself “Edge of Sanity”. It’s not corrupted by Chaos outright, but it isn’t purse either… It’s literally on the edge. Do you think it’s safe to keep it in our Reliquarium?

a) Yes, other Chapters also hold similar relics for dark times
b) Sanity is an acceptable price to pay for such a boon. We will grant this sword to one of our brothers
c) No, it sounds too much like Chaos relic. Let’s destroy it in the fires of the forge
d) It came to us by accident, but it’s not for us to judge what is the role of this toy in the hands of Fate. Let’s hand it over to one of the pilgrims going to the distant worlds, may it find the one who will bear it…

You’ve seen many ancient vessels in your time, but Sanctimus appears to be one of oldest. It’s angular battle turrets and darkened gothic spires seem to be so old as to have witnessed the battles of the Great Heresy. When it hails Aspera Dominus, your analyst-servitors start to click and chipper with their metal mandibles in anticipation, projecting possible battle outcomes. While older, Sanctimus is a significantly lighter vessel than Aspera. Nonetheless, Chapter Master coldly noted cogitator warnings that Sanctimus packs enough power to bust Aspera’s void shields and could possibly even damage her. Holoscreen in front of him crackles and in a blueish haze a face of another Space Marine appears.
>Ave, Magister! May thy blade never rusts and my thy brotherhood never waivers! Brothers of the Black Templars Chapter salute honourable Ghosts of Retribution! I am Marshall Katovar, commander of this ship and leader of this band of finest warriors known to Mankind! I believe that you have been forewarned of our coming. We are just fresh out of battle, we’ve cleansed Farradian Chain off the Aktis Nebula, seven worlds full of orks. I took us nearly a decade to eradicate them, we have paid a significant price in blood, sweat and good men. May I ask your permission to dock at one of the estates of your realm to lick our wounds?

Before you answer Renard puts his hand on your shoulder and whispers:
>Remember milord, they are Black Templars. They are great warriors, but not of the kind known for level-headedness or tolerance of psykers. For the sake of our Chapter I suggest we offer them minimal help and encourage them to move along as soon as possible.
Brethorius frowns, it’s clear that he is unhappy about Renard’s lack of brotherly trust among Space Marines, but he remains silent for the moment.

Operation Mole
Result: Success
Losses: Minimal

The task of mapping the tunnel network underneath Tombstone was one of the hardest Geron ever faced. He was well used to do stealth, assassination and espionage on his own, but commanding a big group for extensive period of time doing not the most exciting task in the world really tested him. Nonetheless, his mission achieved what it set out to do – you now have 89% accurate map of the caverns beneath Tombstone. Many of them are caved in and completely inaccessible. It seems that the tunnel network was dug by the original colonists partly as an initial mining complex before more metal-rich deposits were found in the central regions of Mormark and partly as a would-be geothermal plant, which was never finished. It seems that the addition of the prison-laboratory where the “Prophet” was contained (created?) was a later development and that the complex was used for some time as a secret militarised base, this would explain the abundance of military traps and remains of various machinery that still litters the tunnels. In addition to that, we have mapped at least 8 exits out of the tunnels into the mountain range around, one of the exits being almost 24 miles away from the Tombstone!

What shall we do with the secret entrances?
a) Hide them, but keep them open – we might need to use them someday. If we would be besieged these tunnels would allow us to bring in supplies, to raid besiegers or even to deploy behind their lines!
b) Use explosives to cave them in – this is a security threat and could be discovered by our enemies
c) Let’s close all of them apart from the one that leads furthest away from the Tombstone, it won’t be that useful in the event of siege, but it could be a good path to escape and it will be easier to guard
d) ???
>>
>>44213912
Nonetheless, the mission wasn’t flawless – it was a dangerous task and a few dozen Chapter serfs perished, their names won’t be remembered, but their sacrifice will. An even worse loss was of a few brothers who encountered a few of the mindless Wrath drones that were hiding dormant in the tunnels… d4 Brothers were lost in the battle before someone brought a meltagun.

Also, Techmarine Seran approached you with a suggestion:
>Milord, we have discovered the unfinished remains of the giant geo-thermal plant that the colonists have been planning to build. We have our own geothermal plant, but it’s a child’s toy when compared with this one. I was wondering about this and I believe that if we would somehow get to completing that ancient power generator, we would have enough power not only to power our facilities, but also to create a void shield above Tombstone, making it and possibly even the whole surrounding mountain range nearly impregnable to bombardment from orbit! Naturally, such project would be very expensive and take a long time to complete... I know that we have no enemies at this point who would wish this upon us, but I always say that it’s better to be safe than sorry.
[Geron becomes a better leader and organiser. +5 Intelligence, +5 Leadership, +5 Logic]

Single escape tunnel isn't a security risk and can come in handy.

>>44213935
I say we keep some
>1-2 far for supplies
>3-4 close four counter attacks in case of siege
However, keep them closed with a door, make plans for their collapse in case they are discovered, and we should install some Tarantula Defense Turrets to each
>>
>>44214030
none for supplies, if a determined enemy finds we use a tunnel entry for supply, they are far more likely to search for one for escape
Like the counterattaack tunnel ideal
>>
>>44213912
Tunnels are easy to booby trap. I say keep them but have monitoring equipment on all entrances, servitor-manned weapon emplacements and remote-triggered explosives to cave them in in case things go tits up.
>>
>>44213935
No harm in having more power. Seran can work to bring the geothermal plant online but make it clear that this is a long-term lower-priority project (since we currently have no equipment that could even use that much power) and so he should only devote resources to it when there is nothing more pressing.

So we collapse the distant one, keep 3-4 close, rig them with survillance, auto-turrets/servitors/booby traps, and have an emergency way to collapse them if needed?

As for the generator; how about we measure how much it would cost before commit ourselves to it? It it's too much we can just start to build it next year.
>>
>>44214144
Rig them all with surveillance, traps all of dem and the farthest away exit is our emergency exit.

besides suddenly demoing a lot of tunnels will cause some questions to be asked.
>>
>>44214180
I know I sound like a Squat, burt ask for prices first. How muhc would it cost
>A) Tarantulla turret, thermal/movement sensors, video survillance
>B) A + rigged explosives that can be triggered from the Tombstone or by the CM, and would collapse the tunnels
>C) B + hidden hatches, so it's not an open cave
Then we'll choose. also ask about the generator build costs, and if we could sell/use up parts of our old one

Alas, I was too late. Solstreimian secret police seems to have realised that something is off about those orphans have they have taken them mere days before my arrival. >>Fine words, my brothers. Templars are always ready to test their strength for the glory of the Emperor. Shall we arrange a tournament then? You are the hosts, please let us know what shall be the rules!
I propose the following events:
a) standard marksmanship competition. three competitors from each side
b) wrestling competition. 1v1 wresting with 3 entrants from each side. no armour or weapons
c) Infiltration, a favourite of ours. Each chapter enters a squad of 10 "Defenders" and 3 "infiltrators". The defenders are responsible for a border 1km long parallel to each other and separated by 0.5km distance from each other. Defenders do not interact with other defenders of the opposing side. Each infiltrator tries to go from their own "side" to the other without being detected and reaching a goal flag. Defenders employ non-lethal rounds and methods. Infiltrators who are "taken down" must stand down and are considered out of the game. Winning side has most infiltrators reaching the goal the fastest.
d) Black Templars speciality of single combat. 3 champions per side.

Games conclude with a feast to demonstrate we are all still brothers in the sight of the Emperor.
