Mortals. The ever-necessary cog in the wheel that is the Spirit World. Mortals feed the Spirit World with Belief, which turns into Madness and Ectoplasm, the energy source for Spirits like you.

This is where you come in, Spectre, an agent of the Bureau of the Paranormal. Your job is to keep the mortals feeding the Spirit World, while also cleaning up the various supernatural messes that occur.

As a being of pure ectoplasm, you were never part of the Material World, and so you cannot manifest directly without using a tremendous amount of energy. Often times this would use more energy than it gained, which is bad for business.

This is why The Bureau of the Paranormal has assigned you Haunters, ghosts and entities more easily accessible to the Material Plane. Its your job to use these Haunters to gather belief while keeping certain mortals in the dark about your existence. It wouldn't do well to bring a horde of Ghost Busters or Psychic Mediums to hunt you and put you all in jars.

You currently have five Haunters at your disposal. Their dossiers can be found here:

And as always, what's a good haunting without proper music?

The Bureau has assigned to you another mission, this time upon the house of Beta Tau Upsilon. Inside the walls of this house, pledges are being forced to spend the night locked in the basement. They are fed tales of the Drowned Girl, a poor youth who was murdered by her crazed mother in the bathtub, and then they are sent to spend the night in the cold, dark depths of the fraternity house.

Little do they know that these stories are decidedly untrue, and everyone but the pledges know it. The students of Beta Tau Upsilon make mockery of the paranormal, and this will not be allowed.

Ghost Master, teach these mortals a lesson. A lesson... in fear!

You arrive to the house just as night has fallen, the pledges head downstairs to spend their night, and the rest of the house seems to be in a buzz. You venture your consciousness to see what the commotion is about... oh look. They're stocking the fridges with alcoholic drinks, and the first of the guests have just started to arrive. It seems the fraternity is throwing a party.

You will be sure to make this a party to remember,

>Start haunting the pledges downstairs.
Just a couple really minor spooks and creepiness to get them on edge. Let them rile themselves up.

Then, we wait until the party is started before throwing it into high gear.

Ideally the crescendo ought to be midparty. Letting the pledges and "us" up from the basement.

The creepiness upstairs ought to start of small, not enough to really cramp the party, and smack these kids square off their feet when we UNLEASH the raving freshmen.

You decide that starting with the pledges would be most prudent. After all, they're already half-scared just off of the fake stories they've been fed. Mortals, they'll believe anything.

You venture your consciousness downstairs, and the pledges come into view. Three boys. One athletic looking with. One rail-thin with glasses, tall and lanky. The final one also seemed athletic and sported a patchy looking excuse for a beard.

You feel the rush of ectoplasm from their fear, the mortals saturate the air with it. You decide to get some whispers going, but to do that, you'd need to open somewhere for Gail to send in whispers to. You look around for fresh water, and notice the piping overhead could do with a pinch. The rusty water ways might actually support binding Nixie to. Of course, you could always just have Hector to try and break them.

"Hector." you call out on the ethereal plane.
"Righto, bossman."The apparition is by your side in an instant, manifesting as a walking suit with a hat. He never really wore the face he had as a human, unless you told him to. You used his appearance for hauntings before, but it wasn't exactly something you made a habit of. Still, the ghost came to your side, and you bind him to the basement.

"Ahh, good to stretch the old legs again." Hector sighs as his plasm band fills with the mortal's energy. You look around the basement, it seems like a storage area if not for the well-worn path in the otherwise caked dust. A path from the stairs to the washing machine and dryer. Storage shelves filled with various bric a brac that you don't even bother to peruse because they seem so useless.

You look around some more as the mortals poke through the dusty collection of junk. You notice a small, rectangular window that opens to a grate to the outside. If you could get it open, you might be able to allow Gail to influence down here.

You resolve to get the mortals to open the window. Why waste precious plasm? These three were providing a good foundation, but given the task at hand, it wouldn't be enough on it's own.

"Hector, try and tap the glass." you order. Hector nods and you feel a slight drain on the plasm band as he manifests a bit of solidity to tap on the window.

The reaction is immediate, all three point their flashlights at the sound of the tapping.
"Ohhhh, fuck. What is that? What is that!?" comes the cry of the mortal with the patchy beard. "I-It's probably just those guys playing a prank..." says the one with glasses, though it sounds more in an effort to convince himself than anyone else.

Hector keeps tapping. You feel the rush of fresh plasm onto the band, and allow Hector to continue. The althetic one, seeming to make up his mind, marches over to the window and pounds on it. "Man, fuck those guys!"
BANG. BANG. BANG.
"YEAH, HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT, YOU FUCKS?"

"Hector, give him an answer." you order. The ghost gives a laugh, and then you feel a slight tug on the plasm band as he pounds back the window with full force. The pledges jump again, and once again you feel the plasm band fill with fright. You venture a smile, the extra plasm tastes good.

"Holy FUCK." interjects the bearded mortal. The one with the glasses gives a sort of squeak. He seems to be giving off the most plasm. The athletic one jumped back, but seems to steel his resolve and goes to fumble with the latch of the window.

"Oh yeah, REAL fuckin' funny guys!"
The mortal opens the window and bellows out into the night.
"That's REAL FUNNY, cocksuckers!"

You decide to bind Gail, but her fetter requires her to be outside. You bind her to the air outside of the house, right above the grate. With a little plasm, she should be able to send some whispers down there. "Gail." you command, and the ethereal winds pick up as the elemental manifests beside you. "Yes, Ghost Master?" comes the airy, sighing voice of Gail the Storm Elemental. "I need you to work your magic." you say, binding her above the grate.

"Anything you say, Ghost Master."

"See? Nothin. Just those douches fuckin' with us." comes the voice of the mortal, having deduced Hector's tapping and banging to be little more than a prank. You feel the plasm band diminish a little. You can't have that.

You feed some of the plasm to Gail's band, and she seems to give an airy laugh as she takes in the energy. "Anything in particular?" she asks.
"Put them in mind of this Drowned Girl they're so afraid of." you order. Gail sets it to use immediately, gathering the plasm about her and whipping up a stern wind. She directs it into the grate, and you hear her voice on the material plane.

The sounds of heaving sobs carry on the wind. The sound of choking and gurgling punctuate the cries. You feel the three mortals influx more plasm onto the base band. You might be able to get them to break if you poured on a bit more scares.

You decide to break the three pledges first, milking enough plasm to set up your more potent scares for the crowd seems to be the best way to proceed. You feel the plasm band steady out as their fear over the whispering voices breaks against their resolve that it's just the fraternity brothers trying to scare them into leaving.

Perhaps something more visual can convince them.

You decide to have Hector ramp up the scares. You see the various dusty curious on the shelf could easily be levitated with Hector's telekinesis. That wouldnt even put a dent in your current plasm band. Of course, you could always invest a huge amount of plasm for one of his better abilities, like manifesting himself as either a zombie, or a skeleton, or even just his own ghostly self. Of course, his Telekinetic Storm could lift all of the clutter at once and have it zip around the room. The mortals would have a hard time explaining that... especially if you ordered him to stack all the junk into one pile in front of the pledges.

"Hector, give us a storm." you say, allocating his plasm band to eat most of the plasm in the air. You feel the collection of energy concentrate in the ghost as he laughs, "Heheheheh, right away, boss." Even the mortals feel the chill as the energy is sapped from the air, coupled with the already stiff breeze from Gail's Whispering Wind, you actually see the skinny one start to shiver.

"Uhhh, guys?" patchy beard says tentatively. "Am I the only feeling that?"

Gail's whispering seems to have died off, her voice muted as most of the air's plasm is fed into Hector for his TK Storm.

You think about Hector's auditory hallucinations, but decide it would be best if you could make it sound like the mother of this so-called drowned girl.

Hector doesn't have the ability to change his voice, you'd have to find another haunter for more specified auditory hallucinations. Nixie could probably do it, but you have nowhere to bind her yet.

Hector stays quiet as he unleashes his energy into the room. It seemed as if someone turned off the gravity for the little bits of clutter. You see the mortal's flashlight beams go every which way as they try to see everything. "Oh god... oh what the fuck.... what the FUCK..." their whispers of terror echo in the basement as the dust covered trash levitates. You see Hector place everything in a neat pile within a clear space of floor. The pledges watch in horror, their minds unable to grasp what was happening in front of their eyes.

You feel a rush of plasm, and even taste the sweet, telltale traces of madness enter the plasm band. The athletic one was the first to break the silence, letting loose a shriek of terror as he races back up the stairs. The sounds of the mortals clamoring and tripping each other fill the basement, but you think fast.

You feed a bit of the fresh plasm onto Gail's band, ordering her to amp up her Whispers. "Bad little boys need to be punished!" comes the voice of your faithful air elemental, causing fresh plasm to keep flooding the band, the mortals terrified as they reach the door. The door rattles under the pounding of the three pledges, but it seems the fraternity brothers have locked the door to the basement. Of course, that doesn't stop the terrified pledges from trying to break it down.

"You're on a roll, Hector. Keep it up." you command, keeping his plasm band at full power. Hector nods, laughing with mirth on the ethereal plane, careful not to spill the sound over to the physical. "Of course, boss! It'll be a cold day down under when these three ever go back into a basement, haha!"

You shake your head, Hector really knew how to have fun with his job. You hear the creak and groan of pipes as the telekinetic pressure builds. The whole house seems to sqeal with the sound of stressed metal, and you feel some fear come from the party that's going full swing upstairs as some of the stragglers hear the house groan.

The creaking grows louder, and then a giant snap precedes the water pipes breaking. The sound of rushing water roars through the basement, echoing all around as the pipes start to flood the lower floor. Hector needs only a small bit of plasm to manifest himself as a skeleton. He rises out of the water with bleached bones and starts to make his way up the stairs.

"HOLY SHIT GET ME OUT OF HERE!" screams one of the pledges, the athletic one yanking the doorknob until it breaks in his hand. The plasm of panic seeps onto the band as the three look at the broken knob, but then they start throwing their shoulders against the door. Little by little, it cracks and gives way. The mortals know it, they try to break the door down with all their adrenaline-fueled might. After a moment of panicked frenzy, the door gives way and the three spill into the party upstairs.

Thanks everyone who participated in today's reboot of Ghost Master Quest.
Any fans of the original Quest I gotta say I'm sorry for letting the first one die. I lost my job, my house, and my internet access, then spent the most of last year getting my life in order. I never wanted the Quest to die, and I'm hoping to resurrect it from the dead. After all, dead things is what we're all about here on Ghost Master Quest.

Twitter link for updates and timetables is here:

Archive to the original quest is here:

Once again, thanks everyone for participating. Opening the floor to questions, comments, compaints. If nothing else, look forward to the next installment of Ghost Master Quest going up next friday.

Stay spooky.

Sorry you missed it. I'll be trying to get back to a regular posting date.

I've been doing all right. Like I said, took a year to get my life in order. It's still not fully there, haha, but I'm in a much better place.

Thanks you guys, I was wondering if anyone would even remember this.

Kinda worried that the skeleton craze would have made people jaded toward Ghost Master quest.

Dont worry pal.
You can always try the next day and the next day and the next day and the next day....
