In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

You are still required to do the following:

+Roll d100 for Trianon to inspect the remains of the convoy [he is the leading person in the operation and thus while he may have some technoadepts working under him, it will be him who will interpret their findings]

+Resolve this issue:
The warp travel to Solstreim is quiet and easy, however arrival is quite disappointing. When Geron and his brothers land on the planet, it appears that Xyptus has gone missing. His usual channels are dead, all of the leads are cold. There's only one real way to reach him and that is true the authorities. After some time Geron finds out that local enforcers have arrested some local minor heretic on charges of high treason. The said heretic from description surprisingly reminds you of Xyptus... What shall you do?
a) demand authorities to release Xyptus
b) try to find out more about his arrest
c) try to free him through stealth
d) he can wait, let' find the heirs first

[Awareness roll bonus] Geron soon realises that Soltreim's secret police is tracking him and other Revenants since they landed on the planet. If they would suddenly decide to use their armour and disappear, this could lead to some awkward questions...

+++

Also I would like to remind you of two things in relation to the discussion that happened last time:
1) Xyptus was here secretly. Local authorities most likely are unaware what kind of fish did they catch in their nets.
2) if you reveal openly that he was working for you, it should immediately free him, but will reveal him as your agent, possibly making it harder for him to work secretly in the future.

Have eternal purity watch over the transport convoy debris for the time being, and do long-term investigations on the wreckage. Find out what happened to the crews (should be ~30-40k people on those ships), and review all data logs.

Unfortunately remaining ships are damaged so badly that no additional information could be confirmed. On the other hand, your rescue efforts have detected some survivors inside the wreckage, who managed to hide in the isolated parts of the vessels, using emergency oxygen supplies and eating processed nutrient paste.

Sorry for this post bombing Skargan

++Mission: Recover the Belisarian Heirs, Recover Spymaster Xyptus, form the world of Solstreim++
++Avaible Units: Ghost Company++
++Status: Spymaster Xyptus: Imprisoned for heresy, Location: Solstreim Prison
Belisarian Heirs: Captured by unknown, suspectedly the Inquisition. Location:Unknown

++ Tactical Appraisal: Diplomacy: [ERROR: No diplomat in the taskforce]

Intimidation: [ERROR: Insufficent military forces present]
Combat: [ERROR: Insufficent military forces present]
[ATTENTION: World is MAXIMA strategic importance]
Espionage: [ATTENTION: Forces are under survillance by local secret police]

Advised course of actions in order of execution:
1. Learn more about the charges against Xyptus, and when will he be sentenced, or have his case reviewed.

2. Attempt diplomacy in the name of the Ghosts of Retribution, to get the "heretic" [Spymaster Xyptus] from the local authorities, to exact punishment on him for past griveances of the Chapter. (Diplomacy) In event of failure carry on to point 3. In event of success carry on to point 4.

3. Return to our ship, then via stealth, avoiding the gaze of the Secret police, contact Xyptus. Learn the location of the heirs. It is absolutely critical, that no alarms are raised at this point, and no sign of our involvement is noted by anyone. In case of failure, mission is terminated.

>(cont.)
>>
>>44428286
4. Locate the Heirs, and retrieve them. No raising no alarms are preferred, but the safety, and the acquisition of the Heirs are absolute priority. In case of failure, by the Squadleader's discression, they can either terminate the mission and leave planet, or try to hide with the Heirs until they are retrieved. This course of action is preferred with Xyptus, for he knows the planet first-hand.

5. Return the heirs to the ship. High priority that the secret police doesn't take note of our activity, and the Revenants remain stealthed. In case of failure, try to escape the planet or see Contingency.

6. Retrieve Xyptus. Stealth is preferred so the ship can leave without incident. In case of failure, by the Squadleader's discression, they can either conclude the mission, and leave the planet, or try to hide with the Spymaster untill they are retrieved. Reminder that in the event the ship cannot leave with the Heirs on board, getting them in safety until reinforcements arrive, is top priority.
7. Leave the planet by any means.

Contingency: If at any point, arrest by local forces comes to pass, use any means to get away, with the mission targets, and hide until retrieved.
Contingency: If at any point, the ship gets confescated, or detained,go into hiding with the mission objectives.

>I take full responsibility for this, milord. She passed through full Space Marine training program (adapted as much as possible to mortal body) and I believe she is now a lot more ready to serve with the Chapter than she was before. Nonetheless, the fact that we pushed her above and beyond of what would have normally been required from a serf means that there's very little I can teach her now without demanding things out of her that will hurt her permanently. I believe that he will improve her skills with time naturally, through gaining field experience, but otherwise she's at her peak conditions, pushing her further will provide us only with diminishing returns, but the risk of injury or worse will grow. What shall you order:
a) Let her improve at her own pace
b) Let's push her further (20% chance of crippling injury, 60% chance of success)
c) No pain, no gain, let her suffer 50% chance of crippling injury, 90% chance of success)

6700 survivors have been extracted out of the would-be space hulks. They are crying tears of joy when your men blow up the last bulkhead blocking their way out of the ruined ship.

Among them there are some 200 officers, they have all fled to safety as soon as the first torpedo hit the ship. While Chartist Captain himself perished, his second in command, Leutenant Hanadir is alive:
>Please accept our deepest gratitude, milord! You cannot believe what it was like to wait for death in the burning carcass of our beloved ship... Our officers have gathered what valuables we have and we would like to offer this to you as our show of thanks. It's not much, but we hope it will serve a higher cause and help you apprehend those filthy greenskins! Yes, you are correct, I was there on the bridge myself when the attack happened. It was surprisingly efficient, it seemed as if they would have known where our convoy would resurface to prepare for the next jump... And we keep that information secret! Our autorchon usually declares the convoy route only two days in advance and no one apart from our trade partners, merchants and our officers knows by what route we will go. Those insidious xenos must have used some dark magic or maybe it was our sins that drew them to us... Either way, they crushed us, then boarded the ships, but I don't know what happened afterwards as we went into lockdown deep inside the bowels of our ship. Their ships had this strange sign on them... Let me draw it for you.

Hah, lovely. It seems Geron is having strange feelings towards his protege. But it's nothing serious, at least at the moment.

>>44428640
While that is certainly a good idea, you should keep two things in mind:
a) Tyrel Hagen wants to become part of the true Imperial Nobility. While Xenia would make a perfect lover, maid, cook, etc. She doesn't have a single drop of noble blood. On the other hand if you are planning to use her to seduce him to foil his plans and to make him easier to manipulate, then you might be on the right track.
b) Klementhos was most likely interested in possibility of producing more children with the blank gene. He most likely would pick the suitor by evaluating his genetic potential, not other qualities, thus there's a big chance that Tyrel wouldn't qualify.

>>44428716
Convoy was owned two Chartist Captains, however both of them perished. Quintor is a fine interrogator with years of experience [Interrogation 56], he takes his time, but despite defiant resistance he breaks Haran Dreifus easily [roll of 38]. Finally, he spills the beans:

>Kest! Astrobelus Kest! Please, just stop it, please... No! No, I am not lying..! When you declined his offer of alliance, he made up his mind. We have known for some years, from our spy Clarus, who once served in your Chapter, that you dabble in techno-heresy and court Nestorian Learners... However when you turned away our hand of friendship, only one course of action was left! We had to strike first! We had to! Astrobelus realised that there was no way to gather enough support for a popular crusade against you even despite of the negative works which Fidorius Pax was writing about you... So that's why it had to be me and our most loyal militias who had to take matters into our hands! We knew that we had no chance to win the battle, but it proved enough at the time to make you bleed, to weaken your planet and to distract your attention from a few killings that happened in the same year on Tachion Primaris, allowing Iron Monks to dominate the Ecclesiarchy for at least another generation... We wanted to be your friends, but you chose those mechanical freaks over us and betrayed humanity... That's the reason all of this happened. And it will happen again. Oh yes it will, unless you will change your heretical ways...

"Heresy!? You accuse us of heresy?!
Where were YOU when enemies descended upon our own planet?! You didn't seem too eager to be friends with us then! But the Nestorians gave us everything they could. They gave us TITANS!
Where were YOU when Prothera burned?
Where were the Iron Monks when Artoria was beset by the ruinous powers?
Where were the Iron Monks when San Larion was almost lost to xenos?!

Maybe if you fucks had wanted so badly for us to be YOUR friends instead of Nestorium, you should have been a bit more proactive instead of expecting us to grovel and beg for your 'divine' benevolence!

WE are the sons of the Emperor. YOU are but a shallow attempt to mimic our real connection to the greatest of humanity. And in your eternal bitterness you turn on us under flimsy pretexts.
Why WOULDN'T we befriend the Nestorians? They were actually nice to us when we came here. Everyone else sneered and spurned us, fearing we'd disrupt their precious status quo. But the Nestorians actually HELPED.

As for Ursus, we may be his 'vassals' but that's only so we can investigate HIS heresy. Oh you didn't know? The great all-seeing Ecclesiarchy didn't know? Ursus has been selling us all out to the Triarchy! THAT'S why we're so close to him, so we can take care of the TRUE heresy eating away this sector.

It just happens so that the family in question is the family which adopted both of the children which Xyptus suspected to be somehow related to the Belisarian Dynasty...

When Geron appeared at the darkened citadel which Solstreimian secret police claimed as their headquarters, he was greeted by a black-haired young man with a cybernetic arm.
>Greetings, Space Marine, my name is Locke, Acolyte of the Imperial Inquisition. Geron, was it? It is such a shame, that the SLC captain fell sick today, I will be here to handle negotiations in his stead. As a matter of fact, I happen to have authority of his precinct as well, temporarily ofcourse. Yes, I am perfectly aware that the heretic Xyptus has wronged your Chapter and that you want to claim him from us, however you must undertand me as well. The situation is not as simple as it seems. There is an order to interrogate him and transfer him to Tachion Primaris from higher up. I have an order here signed by the Chancellor of his Lord Governor's Personal Administration. If I recall correctly, your Chapter is a vassal to the Sector Lord, on the other hand you operate semi-autonomously... I am not much of a bureaucrat, but I find this clash of jurisdictions quite a nuisance. On the other hand my Inquisitor, who sent me here, wants to have no trouble with your fine brotherhood. So, what shall we do..? You know how they say, those who meet a wall on their way...
a) ...will break through it with an armoured fist. We are the Angels of Death. Give up the prisoner or face the consequences.
b) ...will pay the man who's guarding the door. Our Chapter would be willing to make a contribution to the Inquisitorial cause. Does 10 million thrones sound about right to cover the administrative expenses of solving issues of jurisdiction?
c) ...will find another way. We may retreat this day, but this will not please Chapter Master. And you know how HE deals with things that don't please him. It will be all for today.
d) ...will ask a friend to help us climb over it. Having Space Marines as friends is an important thing in this part of the galaxy. And friends help each other out. Isn't it right, friend?

My idea of using the decryption codes in the Inquisitorial Rosette, came too late. I am such a faliure.

>b) ...will pay the man who's guarding the door. Our Chapter would be willing to make a contribution to the Inquisitorial cause. Does 10 million thrones sound about right to cover the administrative expenses of solving issues of jurisdiction?
Unless you rather have us as friends, of course. Money is such a cruel mistress.

We don't necessarily have to cover it today

>d) ...will ask a friend to help us climb over it. Having Space Marines as friends is an important thing in this part of the galaxy. And friends help each other out. Isn't it right, friend?

Bribing with service instead of gold. He can get gold anywhere.

Give em the D

Maybe d is not the best option. We should, carefully enquire, what he knows.

e) will carefully ponder, why the wall exists before the run thoughtlessly in one direction or another

For the record; I think we are gravely going to regret even dealing with this guy

No I mean not going around him and contcentration on our original objective. Basically the Spirit of Mormark told us we won't get trough this smoothly.

Locke smiles when he hears your answer:
>That's what friends are for, right? Consider it done. Xyptus will be released tomorrow morning, you will be able to secure him as soon as you wish. On the other hand the children... I guess I wouldn't be wrong if I would say that you are interested in their well-being..? They've departed the planet this morning onboard Lacrimosa Serenima, tradeship bound for Tachion Primaris. They will be dead as soon as they arrive and their identity is established. Be careful, evil forces are at play. Also, your men who serve Ursus... Don't trust them anymore. Oh, just look at the time. I am afraid I have to leave now... Nonetheless, one day you will hear from my master and we might need some help from you. As I understand you have once long ago had a similar arrangement with one of his colleagues. Have a good day.
He disappears before Geron is able to inquire about anything else.

My computer t is playing up on me again. Have a good New Year guys and I'll see you soon! I have one essay to hand in on 5th, so there won't be any sessions until then, but I'll update the wiki once I'll know the date for next one, possibly between 6-8 of January. Thanks to all of you!

Happy New Year.

It should take some time for the Lacrimosa to reach safe warp distance from Solstreim.

We have Ghost's Lance and the 6th Company close by in Vardan System. They can warp to Solstreim and arrive before Lacrimosa leaves.

Meanwhile Strongback, Xyptus and Revenants are finding the Lacrimosa and tailing it. That way when Ghost's Lance arrives we can ambush the Lacrimosa and basically intimidate them into standing down without having to fire a shot.

Keep the Lacrimosa in astropathic silence, take the kids. Then basically keep the ship on lockdown until the Ursus thing is all finished so words can't get out of what we did.

Also it took Xyptus 6 fucking years to fuck up like THIS even after we told him the kids were on Solstreim. It would have been better if we'd just looked ourself when I first figured out they were on Solstreim when we got the first vision about them in 346.

Happy new year Skarg.

He himself said that this is more like a job for a Detective (Arbite) than a Spymaster (Him) but we had no one else for the job.
