The first thing you see is your face, its features obscured by its transparent nature, on a flat chrome expanse. You know what this is, you think. A reflection. It looks… off to you, though. Teeth bared, eyes glaring. You could swear you look angry, but you don’t feel angry. You don’t feel much of anything at all actually.

Your body is weighed down and you think that you would have trouble raising your arms and legs even if you wanted to. Which you do not. As you note your inability to move you notice you are lying on some kind of padded table. Movement begins with a soft whirring of motors and you find your view shifting from the roof of the room to the face of a smooth-skinned adult once you are positioned upright. Behind the adult is a very monochrome room of dull silver, though he blocks you from seeing most of it.

The glass separating the two of you begins to move and as you taste free air for the first time in your short life you realize it is the exact same as your tube air. Your disappointment is thankfully dulled as you had no expectations in the first place. The adult, in a long white coat, is holding a clipboard and if you had to guess the expression on his face it would be… excitement? He clears his throat before beginning.

“Hello Experiment KP-B-280. Please answer the following questions, if you are able.” He steps aside and shows a mirror behind him, giving you your first perfect look at yourself. As you thought, you have no emotion on your face, and considering how much shorter you are than the adult you must be a child.
>>
“Answer in order please. What is in the mirror? What hair color and skin color does the object in the mirror possess? What is the most interesting thing you can think of at this moment?”

The first question is strange as it is obviously yourself in the mirror. You assume the others are a test of some sort? How do you answer?

sorry but you look completely human, at least superficially. Skin and hair color is more for description purposes and country of origin.

Anyway voting is over, writing now.
>>
You feel your heart beginning to beat faster. Something about this situation is getting under your skin. You decide to be honest, and your voice sounds strange as you begin to talk, with inflections on different words different than the adult.

“Um, the one in the mirror is me, I think. My hair is kind of yellowish? Or white maybe? And my skin is sort of like yours, but not as pale. Light brownish. I don’t really know what you mean by interesting. Maybe you?”

The man smiles and writes down some notes.

“Good, good. Your mental facilities are in-tact, at least superficially. We have had a problem with a few blanks being, uh-“ He blanches, as if he has said something wrong. “Nevermind. Next questions. Oh wait, I should let you down, I suppose. See if you can walk.”

He comes over and begins to unstrap you from the table, feet first. You hit the ground a little hard but find you can support your weight fine. You stretch a little, though you are wary of the doctor and keep your eye on him.

While you get your bearings he has moved to wheel the mirror out of the way and replace it with a small table. On it is a kind of crayon you think and a piece of paper with some writing on it. It takes you a moment to recognize the words, but you can puzzle them out after looking at them for a moment. It looks like math questions with word questions at the end asking about things like ‘light refraction’ or ‘Static force’.

He gives you a chair and motions for you to sit.

“Now the next test will be a bit more in depth, not just checking you for sentience. We want to see how much has been imprinted properly. Now just answer the questions to the best of your ability, and tell me if you have any trouble with words or theories.”

Writing.
>>
You sit down and pick the crayon thing. It feels chalky in your hand, and you can tell a layer of it is going to be on your skin for a while. Before you start, you decide to ask him a question that has started to gnaw on you.

“Why am I here? What’s your interest in me?”

The man beams and quickly scribbles something down on his clipboard.

“Well KP, you are here to help Broten widen their knowledge of the world. You and your compatriots are vital components to our efforts in finally being able to harness the, well, skills let’s say, of the Tellin. You do know what the Tellin are, correct?”

The word is familiar but somewhat distant. Focusing on it causes you to remember bits and pieces. They were a society from before modern history, you are positive, and the writings they left often contained impossible tales of the feats of its inhabitants. The few architectural wonders they left behaved strangely, not obeying the laws of physics, sometimes subtlety, sometimes obnoxiously. Specific examples escape you, but form what vague impressions you have of what is ‘normal’ in this time, the Tellin were far from it.

“Yes.” You answer.

“Excellent, sometimes details like that slip by the imprinting. Anyway, you my dear are a modern marvel and Broten treasure, as your predisposition to gaining the class of Physical Manipulation tells is a rarity in this day and age. Your specific implement is strange of course but…”
>>
You lose his train of thought right about there as he starts using words you have never heard of and gesturing wildly, almost dropping his clipboard. He seems lost in his own little world and you turn your attention back to the test. You try your best to answer it but you feel you are woefully unprepared for the latter half of the questions, difficulty ramping up steeply. You are pleased to note you are able to write though, stilted as it seems to you. You finish, writing down guesses for the last few as his rant winds to an end. When he finally notices you he seems embarrassed for a second before scooping up the test.

“Ha, sorry. I got a little carried away. Now before we proceed do you have anymore-“ A loud beep that seems to come from his wrist interrupts him. You didn’t notice before but as he rolls up his sleeve you see a chrome bracer that seems to take up a third of his forearm. He checks it and curses silently.

“I’m afraid that we will have to cut this a bit short, my dear. I’ll be back as soon as possible. Be good and don’t wake your sister.”

At your confused stare he grimaces “It was a joke. Nevermind.”

He goes towards the door to the room and presses a button on his bracer opening it. He steps through and it closes almost violently as soon as he is clear.

Alone in the silver room you decide to explore your domicile. But what are you looking for?

You decide that while you will keep your eyes peeled for any obvious ways out of the room you are more interested in what you can learn about what you assume to be your new (and only) home.

The room is bigger than necessary to think, with more than enough room to pace or exercise in it. The section of the room nearest the door is clear of any obstructions and is where you did your test. The table is still there, and a wheeleable desk is in the corner with some objects on it. Examining the objects you see a bracer like the one on the Doctors writ which is about your size it has a black square it that you think may be a screen, and is thicker than you originally assumed. It has no design flourishes that you can see and its color could blend it into the walls if you weren’t looking for it specifically. You hope this color scheme doesn’t hold true for the entire facility. Though you realize it’s possible they may never let you leave this room.

This thought prompts you to look out the small window in th door. You see a featureless hallway that is definitely eggshell white. You aren’t sure how you know what kind of white it is but you feel it in your bones that it is fucking eggshell and not ivory or seashell or whatever the hell-

That was a very strange train of thought and you are not sure what brought it on. You don’t see anything else outside the window though so you decide to leave it. The door itself you note is sliding from the top and seems nearly seamless where it touches the wall. The thickness of the door is at least 4 or 5 inches of metal though. No breaking through that.

You notice as you move around the room that it isn’t a perfect square. The front of the room, with the door, is smaller in length than the back and you think the back wall may curve a little, though you aren’t sure.
>>
A few pipes and vents crisscross the roof, way out of reach. While looking at the roof you do notice a small bump up there in the middle. The word camera flashes in your mind. (DC 3).

Examining the rest of the room you see your tube thing, upright and retreated back to the back wall, the same silver chromish bluh as the rest of the room. But you also see in the corner another tube, still horizontal. Inside it is… you. But even smaller, younger, wearing the same white shirt and pants you are. Emblazoned on her shirt is KP-C-1294. You assume this is your sister. A glance at your reflection in the glass separating you unnerves you though, as you are sure that the expression of hate on its face is not on yours. You step away quickly.

Besides the bathroom (a small toilet and sink), a ventilation shaft heavily bolted in near the ground, and some other less interesting accoutrements, including a blank journal and some more crayons in different colors in a small alcove the only other thing of interest you notice is carvings and writings on the walls and floors of the room. Most are simple drawings, some showing violent figures attacking what look like helmeted men, and a few that are drawings of a few children you think, with hair of different lengths and you think the faded remains of charcoal to give color to one of them. Other, less faded charcoal is around, and simply seems to be math formulas and notes on history. Its handwriting seems different from the hand that did the carvings though.

You think you’ve found everything interesting in the room, as near as you can see. What next?

I'm not an experienced DM and mostly a writer so I'm using a simple system for most rolls, first 1d10 roll is taken for background stuff (you could think of it as luck maybe.

Certain rolls are tagged with certain things happening after them (like the first 3 you did in the thread. One even came back in the last update.)

Action rolls will be 3 rolls of 3d10, best taken, DC variable.

I am open to changes if this doesn't work out though.

Write-ins are always welcome by the way, and I hope everyone is enjoying it.

In the end, after checking out the vent a bit more closely (the bars were relatively thick, two inches at least, and crisscrossed frequently. You could barely fit more than three fingers in any of the openings in it. It seemed to be welded into the wall as well. You tried to pry it out as a test, but as near as you can tell super strength isn’t one of your ‘skills’) you decide to simply wait for the Doctor. You take the chair and sit at the desk he rolled in earlier with the journal and one of the crayons. Opening it to the blank first page you begin to doodle, simple shapes and squiggles and let your mind wander.

You begin to think about your past, and what you were, before this… whatever it is. It doesn’t take long before realize you weren’t anything. Your very first memory was waking up in that tube over there. You know things, but you don’t have any connection to it. You don’t remember learning algebra, though you remember answering those questions on the test. You don’t remember your parents faces even though you know all children have them. You don’t remember anything. You just… know things, if you think about it.

You notice your drawings have taken on a more scratchy, sketchy look and you are pressing the crayon so hard on the paper it’s leaving a thick layer of itself on the page. You try to distract yourself. The Doctor mentioned that you had powers? No, not exactly, but that idea sticks in your brain. You were not normal in some way, even though you felt mostly normal, as far as you knew. You didn’t really have any clues how to use whatever skills you might or might not possess though. Everything you knew about the Tellins you told to the doctor.
You couldn’t remember anything else though, and it was frustrating you. You felt like there was a wall in your head? And if you could just break it…

“What are you writing, dear?”
>>
You jump in your seat the doctor appearing out of nowhere behind you. Your thoughts scatter and you turn towards him breathing hard.

“Oh, I’m sorry, didn’t mean to startle you. You must have looked like I did earlier. Anyway it’s about lunch time and even though you don’t feel hungry now that you are awake you need to eat. First though, give me your arm.”

You notice in his hand is the chrome bracer from earlier. You hold out your arm automatically. It seems that whatever else you are now, you have a tendency to be submissive to authority.

He does something with the bracer and it pops open before he fits it to your arm. He presses the screen portion of the bracer for a few seconds and it blinks on.

“Path to the lunch room.”

After a second an arrow appears, pointing to the door behind you.

“Anyway follow that and get something to eat. Say ‘path to room’ to get back here. We’ll do the final tests a bit later, my dear.”

He gives you a pat on your head before leaving the room quickly.

The door closes as he leaves but as you approach it it opens as quickly for you as it did for him. It seems you are free to leave.

A quick glance outside shows you a hallway and you see guards in white uniforms with rifles
in their hands and handguns on their hips.

>Try to escape.

Well so far it's looking pretty solid. Had some confussion about our gender at first, but I can piece it together thanks to the Doctor. I'll be interested to see what these experiments actual are.
>>
Turning towards the lunch room you cautiously approach the guard in that section of the hallway. You raise your hand to try a greeting.

“Hi, I’m uh-”

You are suddenly on the ground and you cheek is stinging quite painfully. You taste iron in your mouth. Looking up you see the guard return their hand to the stock of their rifle.

“Go.” Their voice is low, and you think it’s feminine, though the growl makes it hard to tell exactly.

You scurry off the ground, slipping a little before you recover. You rush to get out of the guards sight, going straight towards the cafeteria. Tears begin to sting your eyes, not from the pain but the suddenness. You could tell with one word that the guard hated you with all her soul. You wish you knew why.

Stopping in an empty hallway you crouch down quickly, trying to stop yourself from crying. You don’t know what’s in the cafeteria but you don’t want to face them like this. After a few minutes you stand, trying to wipe your face free of snot and tears with your hand. You doubt your success but you don’t have a mirror to check. You hurry to the lunch room, not wanting to be seen by a guard where you aren’t supposed to be.
>>
The double doors to the cafeteria is bigger than the one to your room, and as you open it you get hit by a sea of noise. A guard near the door grabs your arm and points towards the back of the cafeteria, where you can see other kids getting food.

Going towards it you marvel at how many kids there are. It boggles your mind. You know, intellectually, there are over 13 billion people on the planet but seeing so many in one room is jarring. Besides the guards all around the room and making intermittent patrols through the tables all the people inside are children. Guards are also on a level above, with a bird’s eye view of the children below. You are given a vision of a not-memory. This reminds you of… a prison. You hurry to get your food.

The food given to you is a weird, starchy slab that is probably edible, a small bowl of some kind of thin soup, and some kind of tuber, you think, that smells sickly sweet. Taking your tray you realize you have no idea where to sit to eat.

Looking over the crowd you realize you have no idea where to sit. But… you feel drawn to certain people, your gaze returning to them automatically.
>>
The strongest draw is to a girl who looks sick. She is thin, pale, and her long hair is stringy, sitting with no tray in front of her. Her eyes flicker quickly across the guards, almost ignoring the other kids, even the black haired girl right next to her. She looked distinctly uncomfortable, even more than the hard benches at the tables would have suggested.

Almost unnoticeable is your draw to a dark skinned boy with curly hair. He sits talking unconcerned with two other kids across from him, looking as calm and placid as a lake to any observers.

Slightly stronger is the draw towards a girl with skin a similar light brown as yours, pale scars crisscrossing her face and hands. If you had to describe her you would say she looked regal, even with the mess on her face. She met your eyes as soon as you looked at her and held your gaze until you looked away, embarrassed. An animated kid is next to her gesturing wildly while she seems to ignore him.

Your feet begin to walk and you go towards the girl with scars. As you approach her you notice more and more that despite her poise and her commanding gaze she is… not pretty, to say the least. Maye she was at one point but the various scars stand out heavily, jagged and puckered. Small ones, a large one marring her ear and a thin specimen that seems almost poetic as it goes crosses her lips, zags around her chin and runs down her neck, disappearing into her shirt. Her nose looks like it has only been recently healed from its most recent breaking and her cheek is sporting a bruise that seems to grow from an almost healed black eye. Her hair was cut short, but it was somewhat uneven, the scars running across it enhancing the look.

You find it hard to look away from her face, but her unerring eye contact makes you try to look anywhere else as you sit down across from her. You noticed her designation was PF-A-189 though. You see the hyperactive kid standing, one foot on the bench in some kind of pose, his shirt proclaiming him BN-B-867. A light tan was on his skin and shoulder length dark hair that swept into his eyes. His gestures seem to be done with a flourish and you wait for him to finish before you speak.

“-as I brought the sword down on YT’s face I knew that this was my triumph. Finally I had a tale worthy of my pedigree. Ha ha!” The boy does a little side jump that actually does impress you at its flexibility, landing in a sitting position at the table. He leans towards the girl whose gaze you are positive has not stopped boring into you since you sat down. You sip some of your soup trying not to let it unnerve you. You fail.
>>
“Truly my exploits are fascinating but I am suddenly struck with another passion Mademoiselle. A poem ripped from my heart to your ears, uh, I mean ear.” His gaffe barely gives him pause as he begins.

“The long nights are hollow,
Righteous paths are hidden,
Under the dusk,
Sins flutter unbidden,
To new peace shall I go,
How do I know?
Earnest, your smile so bright,
Rests my heart in the snow.”

He sings it at a rhythm, though you don’t claim his voice sounds good. His eyes are locked on her face, the half-smile you can see glittering brightly.

The scarred girls’ eyes finally leaving you she gives him a side long glance, little showing on her still expressionless face.

“If you’re done Benny, you might want to see our new visitor.” Her voice seems heavily accented to your ears, word pronounced perfectly but clipped somehow.

He gives off the heaviest, and upon reflection, only sigh you have ever heard. It seems to come from deep in his gut, rolling out of him like a cloud as his head slumps.

“Fine, whatever, see if I try to cheer you up again.” His voice lost the theatrical tone, now just sounding exasperated. Then he turned around and saw you the shock making him stumble as he tried to dismount the bench.
>>
“Fuckin’ hell!”

He quickly recover and sits, absentmindedly pulling his tray back in front of him.

“I thought, you… fuuuuckin’ hell.” A grin spreads on his face. “You made it did ya. Nice going mate.”

Eyes once again staring at your soul she answers him. “No, she didn’t.”

“What are you-” The boy, Benny, begins but a glance from Scar stops him. He stays quiet but his expression has gone from ecstatic to guarded.

“What do you want KP-B-280?” Her voice isn’t antagonistic, but it is far from welcoming.

Finally given a chance to speak you try to be friendly once again. At least this time you won’t be hit… probably.

“Hi, uh, I just felt like coming over. I’m kind of new and I wanted to introduce myself.”

“You aren’t new. What’s the highest number you’ve seen so far?”

“Uh, 1200 something, I think.”

“This facility held 1400 experiments. Numbers were given as we entered. You are a veteran of the facility, whether you know it or not.”

This is… some kind of news to you, but before you stew on it you try to keep the conversation going.

“So who are you guys, anyway? And is everything always this, uh, prisoney?”

“To you we are no one in particular. The Facility on the other hand never changes.”

She stressed the ‘you’ in her sentence, and a hint of bared teeth told you that is a sore spot for her. She seems to be fine staring you down as you nibble on the blandest food in existence awkwardly. Benny seems to be fine with letting Scar take the lead.

“I’m sorry.” It comes out of your mouth unbidden and somehow the atmosphere got even chillier.

A flash of surprise shows on her face for a split second before her face returns to its stony demeanor. “What for? You have committed no transgression against me.”

“I just… I’m so sorry.”

Her face seems to soften a bit, and her gaze seems slightly less dangerous. “If you insist, then I will accept, regardless.”

The silence now is less oppressive than before, but since she seems receptive to questions you decide to try and find a little more information.

"If your number is lower than mine, do you remember when I entered?"

She scoffs, “Of course I don’t remember you being interred here. They don’t call us for an assembly to introduce the new kid. You just showed up one day, angry and violent. It was a long time ago though. New kids are rare nowadays. They just wake up the ones already here, if they need new blood.”

“Also, uh… why are we here? I asked the doctor but he was kind of…”

Her scowl makes you nostalgic for her stony silence and you shut up reflexively. You don’t think it’s directed at you though.

“We are here so they can create soldiers for their war. They have no clue how to activate powers inside of us, but their few successes and the natural occurrences they have been able to indoctrinate make it so it’s worthwhile to torture over a thousand children. They dump the dregs of their military here to guard us and the craziest of their scientists here to test us. All the adults here are failures and the scum of Broten, sent so the real men and women could fight without liabilities.”

You don’t think she was speaking to you for the last part of her speech and as you look up you notice a guard behind her. She ignores him and continues.
>>
“For example, did you know there is a soldier named Reneed Drezzen who got drunk the night before a raid out of fear of the Ryshe? He was so terrified of their claws gutting him like a pig and hanging his intestines on a tree branch he tried to desert.”

The guard behind her fingered his weapon, and even with his helmet on you could tell he was seething. Benny had somehow ended up almost a yard away from Scar when you weren’t looking. Scar seems oblivious to him though.

“So this coward gets caught, as he had as much shit in his head as his pants at that point. So, since ‘trained’ soldiers are becoming a rarity in this war they simply excommunicated his sentence to his father.” Her voice has changed to genial, as if you were friends for a long time, and her hands have started to gesture casually, even using air quotes. The man seems to be lifting his gun stock until her next sentence stops him cold. “That’s what they told him at least. The idiot is delusional. What kind of army doesn’t execute deserters? Renner Drezzen is dead, of course, and they probably have some intern writing him ‘letters from prison” now to keep him loyal and a warm body between us and the outside. Kind of funny when you think about it, huh?”

As the guard stomps away her smile slips from her face and the stony Scar you know is back.

“Benny and I will be late for testing soon. Do you have any other questions for us?”
>>
“Yes. Why were you glaring at me?”

“Don’t mind her,” Benny says, back at her right hand. “She glares at everyone. It’s how she says hello.” An easygoing smile is on his face and he puts an arm on Scars shoulder to lean on her.

“Also what did you mean by ‘you thought I made it’?’ What was supposed to happen to me?”

His smile is wiped from his face as he blanches and stutters. Scar answers for him, however.

“You had suspicions you were to be wiped soon. That was a week ago. Obviously you didn’t make it.”

She stands up, carelessly knocking Benny of her.

“We can’ be late for testing. Let’s go Benny.”

She seems to glide away with the smoothness of a queen Benny scrambling behind her, shooting a sad smile and a whispered ‘sorry’ at you.

You are alone at this section of the table. You look around and notice that the Calm boy is still there, as is the Thin girl. The Calm boys’ companions seem to have been replaced however with new kids. You get your half-finished food and begin walking toward the Thin girl. You want to know why you have such a strong pull on you, and as you approach you start to feel… calmer? Almost as if a slight rage in your breast you barely noticed is abating just by going to see this girl. Out of the corner of your eye you see the Calm boy dismiss the new kids at his table before a pale kid with freckles and a shock of red hair sits down right next to him. Judging his sudden lack of placidity it wasn’t expected.

You sit across from the Thin girl and her neighbor, a girl whose hair you can now tell is just a dark shade of brown instead of fully black. She is thin too, but not emancipated like the Thin girl and her glasses make her eyes look huge. She looks away as soon as you sit down. The Thin girl on the other hand just gives you a sad smile. She seems even worse up close, like Scar. Her cheekbones are pulled against her skin and her arms visibly bony, even through the long sleeves of her shirt. You notice she glances at your food a lot. Her friends is already gone, though you are not sure if she shared any with the Thin girl.

“Hey again Bee. We won’t have long to talk, my lunch shift is going to be over soon. You can call me Gut. This is Bug,” She motions her head towards the shy girl. “How are you feeling today?” Her voice is calm, but there is a note of resignation in it.

You notice black dots under the Thin- Gut’s shirt. You think they may be moving? As you watch them out of the corner of your eye you begin talking.

“I’ve been wiped.”

Another sympathetic smile is drawn out. “Yeah, I know. Eventually you always come to me when you’ve been wiped. Part of me wants to say I’m sorry, but the Bee in that chair wouldn’t be here if you weren’t. I don’t really know the word for being sorry for a death?”

“Condolences.” Bug whispers.

Gut sighs. “Yeah. Condolences. I don’t think Pink liked me very much, but she was always polite. Pink was the last you. How do you feel though? Getting wiped seems to be hard and if I can help just ask.

“I feel amnesiac mostly.” You answer. “I don’t know anything. People talk like I’m supposed to get it but I don’t. They all seem to talk around things, or I don’t know, not want to tell me something?”

In a strange motion Guts moves her hand to her shirt and pulls it up to her mouth. She puts it back down before answering.

“I can promise I’ll tell you whatever you want to know Bee. Just ask.”

You feel slightly uncomfortable at her calling you Bee, but you press on.

“What was… Bee like?”

“She was… well she wasn’t the nicest person, but she was loyal. She tried to protect me a lot, snuck me food, let me cry on her shoulder.” Gut seems to get a bit misty. “She was my best friend for a long time. I miss her.” Bug reaches her hand out and puts it on Guts’. You have an irrational surge of emotion. You think it was jealousy? You ignore it.
>>
“There’s a… clone of me in my room.” You continue. “What is it?”

She does the habitual motion again and you notice the black spot under her shirt disappears before being replaced with another one soon after.

“’Who is she?’ We’re not things Bee.” She admonishes you softly. “She’s your back up, like you’re a back-up of the Nat you were, uh, born from. Nat is shirt for natural, sorry. Some of us have one and some don’t. I don’t. Your Nat is pretty powerful though, so they probably want to have a couple of you in case you develop to be as strong as her.”

“How does everyone know when to leave the cafeteria?”

Gut holds up her hand letting her sleeve slip down, showing her thin arm and the loose chrome bracer on it. “They vibrate to tell us. Or shock you if it thinks you are late. They have a lot of functions, watch, map, keycards to the rooms if you have the right access code. We don’t usually, unless a Doc has a favorite. If you just woke up your Doc may not have set up a schedule for you. Don’t worry about it. They should tell you when they set it up. Unless you got one of the mean ones. Who’s in charge of you now?”

Before you answer the question you glance at the floor. You see a black streak go under the table quickly, and it hits you. Gut is eating cockroaches? Somehow they are drawn to her and crawling up under her clothes? You don’t know why but it makes you feel a little queasy.

Bug grabs Gut’s sleeve and give it a small tug. “We have to go soon.”

“In a minute, Bee may have more questions.” She answers.

Now that you know what to look for it’s kind of obvious what she’s doing. She scans the guards in front of her, and when their helmets are pointed away from her she hunches over and lets it crawl into her mouth. The idea of it puts shivers down your spine, but she’s been so nice…

You push the remains of your food over to her.

“I have one more question, but before that do you want this. Eating like you do isn’t really, uh, ‘healthy’, I think.”

“No!” She leans away from your tray like it’s on fire. “I’m fine. Perfectly fine. My uh, regimen doesn’t include solid food. I’m here to hang out with Bug, that’s it!”

You pull your food back, confused. Out of the corner of your eye you see Bug tap her bracer.

“Anyway questions! Ask away!” Gut says.

“Well,” You start slowly, “Why do you call me Bee?”

“Oh! If you want me stop I will it’s just…” Her excitement seems to wear off quickly. “When you were with me you were Bee. I just… like calling you that. I’ll stop if you want, of course! I’ll call you whatever you want.”

Bug stands up tapping Guts’ shoulder. “We need to go” She says in her soft voice.

“Not yet. Go without me.” Bug seems reluctant though and hovers behind her.

Asking quickly, feeling a bit guilty for keeping her you rattle off your other questions, about powers and why you were wiped.

“Your Nat can move things with her mind. They think all of us have that potential in us, so they test us to unlock it. You keep getting wiped because that’s part of your regimen.” She urses quietly under her breath before giving you a strained smile.

You notice she is starting to twitch and Bug seems to have started running towards the cafeteria doors.

“You can call me Bee, Gut. Now go!”

One last genuine smile is given before she leaves as quickly as she can.

Your appetite is dead and you have serious doubts as to how clean the kitchen is anyway so you throw the rest of your food away. As you leave, noting the Calm boy is gone, you see the redheaded kid has taken his spot and is staring into space blankly. Three parts of you earnestly hope you never get dragged into a conversation with him. A fourth part of yourself is confused by this.

As you return to your room, bracer giving you directions, you give a wide berth to the guard near your room. You have no clue if it’s the same one who smacked you, but better safe than sorry.

Inside your room the Doctor is waiting for you. A rather big, comfy chair is cradling him as he reads through charts on his clipboard.

“Take a seat dear. I have two very important questions for you. In-depth answers, if you please. Wishy-washyness isn’t appreciated at this point. I will then answer a few questions, if I can, after which I will leave you to catch up on your no doubt exciting lunch with your sister.” He chuckles.

As you sit in your suddenly insufficient chair you wonder what the point of this is.

““There is a cage inside a town. If a child is locked inside this cage, then in one week they will be driven mad. However for the entire town no diseases will strike, no war will touch them, and misfortune will slip by them in the night. Should the town sacrifice one for many? There is only one wrong answer, so don’t worry.”

“Next question. There are three doors. They are guarded by one man. He will answer yes or no to one question. Behind One door is a monster. Behind another door is freedom. Behind the last is nothing. How would you get what you desire?”

Well those were certainly… questions. How do you answer.

>Write-ins only.
>>
>>44496106
For the first question, it's a no brainer the sacrifice of that one is certainly worth it to save the many, however those whom chose to sacrifice that child should also be forced to endure something. They have done something less than human by choosing to act like an animal and throw others under the bus.

I say it has to be freedom just because of semantics.

If desire nothing, that's the same as saying you have no desire.

"barring the existence of an existential threat, no. The mindset that would let them live with themselves after condemning a child to a life of isolation and madness rather than live with pain is toxic. His responces are limited to ys, no or nothing. Therefore 3 options exist, asign each option a designated constant. Door 1=Yes, Door2= no and door 3= silence. You can now ask him whatever question you want be it which door leads to freedom or which door leads to what I want and he will give you the answer.
>>
>>44496106
For the first question, reply roughly as in >>44496205.

>“Next question. There are three doors. They are guarded by one man. He will answer yes or no to one question. Behind One door is a monster. Behind another door is freedom. Behind the last is nothing. How would you get what you desire?”
Nowhere is it said that the man knows what is behind the doors. This is important.

Ask the man to follow you to find freedom together, and attempt to defeat the monster together or flee from it if that is the door you pick. Nowhere is it said that you can't turn back and pick another door after either; however, everyone desires freedom.
>>
>>44496613
Your rules lawyering does not hold in this case.

We could, for instance, shove the man through a door, and listen for screams. But that would be immoral, and reflect badly on us.
>>
>>44496805
Because he CANNOT not nothing. He is required, by the rules, to say either 'YES' or 'NO'.
>>
>>44496814
wait. i think i realized something. he asked how do we get what we desire. its starting to sound like a trick question to see if we desire freedom.
>>
>>44496856

What the fuck, I just said that earlier

>>44496278

I guess I'll use simple words next time
>>
We should clear up with him since the options are what do we want? to fight a monster, do we want nothing? or do we want freedom?
>>
>>44496879
don't have to get upset about it, that was a while ago and by the looks of it i wasn't the only one to miss it.
>>
Man, you m8s are brutal. I wouldn't have let the kid go mad, myself. But that's just me.
>>
>>44496856
So, we should say 'None of the doors holds what I desire', and then, if asked to elaborate, respond that we desire 'happiness', which does not necessarily follow from 'freedom'?
>>
>>44496883

fighting a monster sounds interesting, but I can come up with no logical reason why we would want to considering that we don't know if we can beat one or not right now.

I mean we're in a prison, if we say freedom I can't imagine they'll be happy with it.

Unless they use it as leverage to make us do things.

The thing with the kid too is probably just to make sure we agree with what they're doing with the experiments.

>>44496910

I'm not really upset but its like wow, how do you misunderstand that
>>
>>44496956
How do we know that? What are we being freed from? The place we are in is safe from a monster, so it can't be all too bad.
>>44496960
I didn't misunderstand that, i didn't see it. Could have just said that you said it earlier and gave a postnumber.

Still writing don't worry. bout half done maybe?

So how was everyone's new year?

“Um, is it okay if I ask questions first?” You ask.

He looks slightly surprised but says “Of course my dear. What do you want to know?”

“What’s your name?”

“I haven’t told you yet? I apologize, I’d forget my head if it wasn’t screwed on straight. My name is Darren Ducas. I am your primary physician and pardon the terminology, but also your main ‘Handler’. I will be in charge of giving you a schedule at some future date, determining your regimen, and all the other hustle and bustle we need to put in. don’t worry about it for now. We’ll get to it when it becomes necessary.”

He gives a cheeky smile and leans forward as he whispers, “With any luck I won’t end up like the last two, eh?” He gives a wink as he sinks back into his chair.

“What are me and, uh, my sister here for?”

“Hmm. Bit surprised you haven’t learned that yet, but I’ll happily answer. In this war Tell soldiers are worth more than an army. The Ryshe have their wolfmen and sharkwomen and god knows what else by now. The Tellam scrounge the Tell ruins and create weapons that frankly, I think are cheating to attack themselves and everyone else with. The Gnikkeys and Pike are always at Brotens doorstep, challenging us. The Nimeras are the most dreadful of all with their spells and spies. Oh, I could go on but it’s pointless. The point, my dear is that every one of our enemies has an advantage. The proud Brosh people meanwhile have you children.” He gives you a sweet smile. “Between you and me, I think you are all we need.”

He straightens up in his chair. “Now, back to business, my dear. The questions. Or do you need me to repeat them?”

“No, thank you Doctor. Uh… what do you think about the questions Doctor Ducas?”

“Ah ah.” He wiggles his finger. “No cheating. This is for you and only you to answer, my dear.”
>>
You sit and think. The first questions’ answer seems obvious. Making one child a scapegoat so many more can live not just their lives, but ideal lives sounds evil, but if in the end it leads to a greater good, wouldn’t it be worth it? Not to say they should forget about the children of course. On the other hand what were you saying? Unless their very existence was threatened how could you just write off a kid like that? The toxicity of a society that allowed that couldn’t be allowed to stand it should be destroyed. But then again…

“Interesting.”

You look up from your thoughts and realize you have been muttering your thoughts out loud.

The Doctor keeps his eyes on his notes. “Go on. You won’t be remiss in speaking a little louder, dear.”
>>
You begin thinking again, this time not even trying to keep quiet. The second question, the one you were sure was a trick, though you probably shouldn’t have said that out loud. Whatever it doesn’t matter. The obvious answer was to assign the doors the names ‘Yes, No, and nothing’, then ask a simple question. It was the textbook solution. But what if he wasn’t looking for the textbook solution. You could ask if you had enough strength to kill it anyways. But if you didn’t then where would you be?

You could attack the man and part of you felt satisfied with this answer but no that was stupid. Barbaric. Better to threaten him. Take him with you as insurance. Use as bait for the monster? Could the man lie? It wasn’t specified, and now no answer was safe.

Listen at the door maybe. Crack it open a tad to see if you could check the danger. There was no rule saying you couldn’t? And even if you couldn’t you could kill that monster easi- fuck off Bee, you’re an idiot. Instead of being coy why not go back to basics. It was a logic puzzle Pink, so assuming there is no trick the obvious no wait hat are you I saying, what’s happening this is wrong he tricked I-

You feel drained suddenly, tired. Your stomach is empty and you are so very confused. You look up at the man.

He hums slightly, scribbling on his keyboard and tapping his bracer. The doctor makes a few absentminded swipes before looking up from it, and yours in turn starts to fell strange. Hotter. You can’t think right, you think. But the slog of your brain is lessening quickly, maybe you could-
>>
“To answer the question you should have asked, you have been a monster, a coward, and a liar. Between you and me you are still a monster, a coward, and liar. Our experiment has failed, clearly. It’s irrelevant however. We can always try again.” He stands up languidly, his body language changed. Thoughts fly through your head, attack him, question him, manipulate him, but your bracer has heated up enough to freeze you in place.”

“By the way, my dear. Your answer. It was wrong.” He gives a smile and a small shake of his head as he leaves the room.

The lights go out as the door slams shut, and your mind instantly turns to the thoughts you have been avoiding. The thoughts that go through your mind every time you feel torn about what to do. You wish you were alone in the dark.

Because you think you are trapped in here with yourself.

and thats a wrap for this this thread, after like 15 hours. I'll probably be up for a while longer cause I hate myself. Feel free to ask questions or whatever.

Also I guess I should archive this. tag and blurb suggestions are welcome too.

thanks for the thread, any idea when your next session is going to be?
>>
>>44497565
Got a twitter? Also, for future threads you don't need to wait so long for votes.
>>
>>44497592
As of now, no. Sometime in the next week probably? Gotta do a new outline and that took a couple of days. I'm hoping this quest is going to be short (no more than 7 threads?). We'll see how it turns out though, especially when classes start back up.

>>44497607
boom, just made one.

https://twitter.com/WhistlerDM

I thought around 20 or so min was okay but I'll consider shortening it.

Thanks for sticking around guys. Hope you enjoyed it.
