Last time on Military Magical Girl: You, Matsushita Miyako, middle schooler, were attacked by an agent of the Transdimensional Imperial Magical Administration (or TIMA) but rescued by another mage of the Alliance. Forced into the Alliance military, you were transported to the Thirteenth Magical Education Facility, tested for your magic type (Ice magic), and chose your magical device (a jian), as well as assigned your squad (Squad 437). It has been one week since then.

The last week has been a blur for you. A flurry of testing, classes, and practice as you were both tested on your newfound magical abilities and expected to apply them in mock battles against other squads. This mass testing period wasn't new to the others, although there were new trainees being sent in daily as part of the Alliance's recruitment program. Regardless, at the end of the week your every part of your body hurt from exerting yourself to your mental and physical extremes. When you woke up on Friday, exactly a week from when you arrived at the 13, in the room you and your squadmates shared, you found a letter slipped underneath the door. It had the results of your magical and physical aptitude scores, as well as your overall mage and magical device ranking.

Ow and to answer that question that you made long agow about since when did I decide to make this esdeath quest... Well since you decided to put "Girl" and magical ice powers in one thread. my good QM.
>>
>>44534889
That wasn't me that said that but another anon. Oh and I'll be waiting until more rolls come in for the final decision to be made.

>>
>>44534951
How loong do you plan to run this quest today anyway QM? Just wanted to ask considering my time table.
>>
>>44535891
Oh we arent holding back on this one battle bruva, those guys force recruited us in to this so they bether deal with it!
>>
>>44535904
I was thinking instead of running it weekly run it 2 days a week or something. I have a very rough idea of where the story will go but I was thinking about 20-30 parts (possibly more if more intrest is shown). Really depends on intrest though.
>>
>>44535957
Pretty sure he meant how many hours tonight, Matsu-chan.
>>
>>44535957
Oh. I was referent to amount of hours per thread and such, but that is still good to know QM, tanks!
>>
>>44535998
Oh sorry my bad. Currently its 9:45 or so where I live (PST) so I was thinking of staying up 5 or so hours and if the thread is still up by then I might go longer (but I may have to go to sleep at that time). All depends on how lively the thread gets going though.
>>44536008
Like I said, heavily dependent on intrest. 2-3.5 hours is a random number I pulled from my head but it can easily exceed that if I set some time aside and people are into it.
>>
I'll take one more roll before we get started.
>>
>>44536055
Phew.. Mind if I say a few things regarding the timees you picked? I am okay with this *considering it was 6 in the morning when you posted it up* but for the love of everything please dont post this on the working days! I beg you with my entire soul!
>>
>>44536201
The usual thing I had in mind was Saturdays and Fridays (if I went with the two days a week thing). It will usually be Saturday though if that falls through. I'm busy as well on the weekdays and have classes starting in a couple weeks so I feel you on that front.
>>
Rolled 4, 2, 4, 3, 4 = 17 (5d6)

Oh then your friday is my Saturday and so on, since I am 9 hours in front or so. I am okay at waking up early 6:00 AM as long as its not Right before going to my classes. but that seemed to have solved by itself.

Your scores came in with:
Physical Strength:C
Agility:B
Endurance:C
Mental Magical Ability:D
Mystical Magical Ability:C

Underneath the individual scorings is an overall rank, signifying your strength relative to other mages. It reads:
Rank VII, Grade 0 mid-tier mage

Right next to it is the assigned rank of your magical device. It reads:
Rank 3 Magical Device

Despite it being so early in the morning, Kazue, roughly cut short black hair and all, jumps down from her bunk in the room and rushes to the piece of paper you're holding in your hand.
"Lemme see!" She says, rustling the rest of the team from their sleep. "Whatcha get, Miyako?"
Kazue had been trying to get you to open up to her for the past week, trying to start conversations at dinner in the mess hall and after training in the co ed locker rooms. Her tomboyish demeanor was one of the defining characteristics of her personality which constantly made Chikako (the quietest of the squad besides yourself) scoff sometimes at her energy and excitement. Regardless, you hand her the paper. She raises her eyebrow in exclaimation and passes the grades along to Maiya.
The squad leader scanned the paper a couple times, rubbing the sleep from his eyes before handing it back to you and clasping his hand on your shoulder. The action made you shudder a little from the contact.
"Nice job, Miyako." He said before turning to Kazue. "Next time, Araki," He said, using her name for emphasis, "Don't wake us up."

I'll do both.

You turn to Kazue, "Maiya's right, we all need all sleep. But really, what's with these scores, there must be something wrong!"
Mio, now awake and still in her sleeping clothes, stumbles over and looks at the scores. She chuckles, scratching her shoulder-length black hair.
"Your scores are on par with us, Miyako. Everyone in this squad is either a Rank VIII or a Rank VII. Don't beat yourself up over it, the scores are just holdouts until we get our contractions done and over with."
You raise your eyebrow. "Contractions?"
Maiya turns to you. "Basically a ceremony that connects us with our devices while at the same time infusing our latent mana with our mental and physical abilities. I hear that's where the majority of a mage's power comes from. Or so I've heard."
"And how much should this improve me...us?"
"I've heard it only improving a couple individual ranks a grade or so, and other cases of it boosting a mage's overall rank a couple ranks. Still, don't expect too much, we still have a while until we move onto an offical posting in the military."
You sigh and sit down on your bed. "How long have you been here?"
Kazue sits across from you, right next to the still sleeping Chikako. "Mio and Chikako have been here from the start. Which was about three or so years ago. Maiya transfered in from her own planet about 2 and a half years ago. Chikako was the most recent addition besides you. She came in half a year ago. I don't know where from."
Mio spoke up. "From some backwoods planet called Ikaran. Where are you from Maiya?"
"Big planet." Said the squad leader. "It's called Taraika. A capital of the sector I'm from. I've heard about Earth from some of the news there. What's it like, Miyako?"

"I don't really know were to start." You begin. "But if there's one thing I know, it's that I loved it. It's hard to explain but Earth is one of the best things that's ever happened to me."
Before anyone else can say anything more, the intercom turns on with a harsh beep, rustling Chikako from his sleep.
"Squad 437, report to Training Facility #37. Repeat, Squad 437 of the the Seventh Brigade, report to Training Facility #37 effective immediately."
You turn to each other and nod quickly, pulling your uniforms out of the closet and dressing quickly. Over the past week you've quickly gotten used to living with other people of the opposite gender. It wasn't something you weren't used to, living with guys, mostly due to living with your younger brother Kouta. You tried not to think about him, your parents, your friends at school, or the life you left behind when you were forced into the Alliance military. All the talk about homelands and origins brought that all back but action and movement was something that allowed you to stuff it back into the recesses of your mind. It was something you were good at, hiding emotion. It was one of the elementary lessons of kendo, and something your senpai had always tried to drill into your mind. Regardless, you follow behind Maiya. After proceeding down some errie hallways, lined with white tiling, you arrive at the training section of the 13th. At this time of the morning it is silent. Maiya swipes her ID badge across the keypad to the right of one of the doors labeled #37 and the door swings open with a rush. Sitting at a bench to the side is another squad of five and standing in front of you is an officer, a captain by the look of it. You salute him and he speaks.
"You have been called her to conduct the first preliminarly mock match. Your opponents will be Squad 872. You have five minutes to prepare."

Talk about the fact that we have to be dominating in everything. Wether its stats or score or just plain personality. And the idea to slowly sneak in to leadership instead of desiding to take it right there and now and show our team who is the top alpha here, does not sound like Esdesu to me. I have lost manny a battle because I waited to long to make a move guys... We will do it here and we will do it live. WE WILL DO IT LIVE!

We don't have sufficient power to take over the squad yet.

And right now, he's stronger than us.
But in time, we will be stronger. And we will make him pay for every single day that we suffer the indignity of being beneath him.

Cut me some slack this is my first quest

You try and strain your ears and eyes for what the other squad is doing. [roll 1d100 to check to see if you hear/see anything] In the meantime however, you raise your hand and ask, "Permission to speak sir?" The last week had taught you a military-like discipline that you didn't think you had in you.
"Permission granted, Private."
"What sort of training will we be undergoing in this mock match?"
The officer straightens his back and cap. "This prelim will be the first of many mock battles in the coming days that will serve as a way to prove that your squad is deserving of the ceremony of contraction at the end of the first semester. Only the most organized and strong, both in terms of physical and mental ability, are able to survive the contraction process and as such this mock battle process will serve as a trial by fire for squads in the 13th Division. The prelims will be concluded by midterms after which we will advance to the offical matches of the 64 squads that succeeded during the preliminary matches. The final 12 squads will undergo contraction and recive a promotion those who lose will have to repeat the year until they succeed in contraction. Is all of that clear Private?"

You overhear some of the other squad talk amongst themselves.
"Since we're going one on one, we have to figure out our order." Said one, who you guess must be the squad leader.
"I'll go first." Says another, obviously confident in their abilities. "Next can go Raruku, then Yaeda."
There is silence, then another voice. "What about that new one over there? I know Araki and Fujimura, and Shioya has no close range, but what about the transfer?"
"Don't know a thing about her." Says the leader.
"We're gonna have to be careful. Kayae, can you handle her?"
"I'll try."
"It's all we ask."

Turning back to the officer, you salute him and say "So, every squad we crush is forced to repeat this year again?"
"Indeed." The man replies. "It keeps the soldiers on their toes and everyone improving. Now, if I were you, I would go back to your squad."

You hear a whistle and see Kazue waving at you. Sighing, you walk over to the rest of the squad.
"What were you talking to him about?" Asks Maiya.
"Just about the prelim matches. Did you know about all this?"
Everyone else nods. "Of course. Chikako saw last semesters prelims as well."
"Huh." You say, trying to keep your voice to a whisper. "So, what's our plan?"
Chikako speaks up, a rare instance. "It's best of five, 1 versus 1. We don't know the lineup of the other squad so we should plan in the most effective mages first to get the easy wins out of the way."
Everyone looks at you.
"What?" You ask, confused.

"I overheard the other team talking." You say. "Seems like they have some people that know Kazue and Maiya. Their names seem to be Raruku, Yaeda, and Kayae. Don't know about the other two. Do you know them, Maiya? Kazue?"
Maiya nods. "I know Raruku and Yaeda. I know their leader too, Ikeda Habera. Raruku is a sound magic user, Rank VI. Yaeda is a metal magic user, Rank VII. Ikeda is a storm magic user, Rank VI. Do you know Kayae Kazue?"
Mio shakes her head. "Never met her but know of her. Damn powerful wind magic user like me. Rank V too."

You hear the officer's voice. "One minute remaining! Ready yourselves!"

"Damn it..." You hear Chikako whisper under his breath. He looks at Maiya, your leader. "So, what's the plan, Maiya."
"I say Kazue, me, then Miyako."

You twist your head to face Mio straight in the eyes. "Don't underestimate me Mio." You say.
She shrugs. "I'm not, Miyako, just don't blame me if you get hurt. These people won't go easy on you."
"I know."

"Time is up!" Yells the officer. "Both squads line up on opposite sides of the field!"
You follow right behind Maiya, Kazue leading the vanguard of the your squad. On the other side is the enemy, all of them sharing the same anxiety you saw in Mio's face.
"First combantant step forward."
Kazue and the other mage stepped forward.
"I will now give both of you your devices. You are free to use magic and attack the opponent until they are rendered unable to fight."
From the sides two assisants bring two suitcases, not unlike the common bags you saw salarymen carry back home. The assistants lay them at the feet of Kazue and her opponent and stepped backwards. Unlocking the bags, Kazue took out a pair of gloves and fitted them around her hands, opening and closing them. On the other side Kazue's enemy took out a small hatchet.
"Araki Kazue versus Ikeda Habera. Round 1. Begin!"

Kazue rushed forward running with silent speed. She reached forward, aiming for Habera's chest but the leader sidestepped, dodging the blow. Counterattacking, he spun around, his axe crackling with lighting and wind. The device hit Kazue on her neck, sending flying across the room. She stood up quickly and jumped upwards , yelling and going in for a second attack. Seeing this, Habera swung again for Kazue's left arm. Reacting to the hatchet, Kazue then rolled to the side and swung out her leg, sending rippling waves of wind throughout the room. The attack slammed Habera against the opposite wall. Kazue stood up from her crouching position just as the officer yelled, "Match over! Winner: Araki Kazue of Squad 347!"
Kazue let out a sigh and returned to your side of the room, taking off her gloves and returning them to the case.

Next up is Maiya. From her case she takes out a katana. Her opponent is Raruku, who attaches a bracelet to his wrist. As soon as the fight begins, it is over with a blaze of heat and flame as Maiya grips his katana, sending it into a rage of bright fire. He raises the weapon upwards and brings it down in one swift movement, knocking Raruku to the floor instantly. Effortlessly, he dissappates the fire on the weapon and returns it to it's case.

Next up is you. The final opponent is Yaeda, a metal magic user and Rank VII just like yourself. You tremble a little after seeing the two strongest in your squad win with little trouble against the opponents before them. You bend down and unlock your case and take out the jian you call your magical device. You grip it tight and look straight at Yaeda. From her case, Yaeda picks up an assault rifle. You tap into the tendrils, the web of magic that stretches out before you. You dig into it and pull forth from the raging rivers of mana the energy that fuels your magic. Diverting that chaotic energy into an orderly one, you infuse your device with mana and activate magic program hard-coded into the device.

You raise your blade just in time to block the hail of bullets coming your way. Your sword hand seems to be moving all on it's own, the mana within the blade guiding it's every swipe and swing. As you decend through the air the bullets grow faster and faster until you eventually land with a thud on the ground, quickly raising, you grip your device with two hands and bring it to Yaeda's throat, the steel metal reflecting the tiny beads of sweat as they drip down the woman's neck. You are breathing very heavily, the mental stress of casting magic now paying it's heavy toll on your body and mind.
"Do you surrender?" You ask
Yaeda just grins and motions behind you.
You quickly turn your head only to see the fired bullets circling back around, and thanks to Yaeda's magic, speed straight for you.

Sorry for not explaining this before. Since magic comprises all living things and magic casting is determined by willpower and strength of the mind, mental magical ability is determined by raw mental strength and fortitude whereas mystical mental ability is determined by one's genetic aptitude for casting magic (i.e. genetic breeding of powerful mages or early exposure/magical training)

You try and dodge the hail of bullets but several pierce your flesh and dig right into your thigh. You cry out in pain as agony races through your leg. You try to crawl out of the way of the rest of the bullets but more enter your arm. You grip your sword tighter and struggle to stand up, your right leg giving way as you struggle against the overwealming amount of pain and suffering. You yell and scream against the agony, only to have the waves upon waves of unrelenting fire within your body answer back. You see Yaeda stalk towards you a stack of bullets hovering in her left hand, her rifle in her right. She points the rifle at you, a smirk on her face.
"Do you surrender?" She asks.

You push through the pain, grasping your weapon and thrusting for Yaeda. With a scream and a yell she cries out, dropping the bullets that were levitating in her hand. The blade pierces her palm, sending blood down her hand and onto the floor. Rushing for her gun, she aims it right at you but you tackle her to the floor, stabbing and stabbing at her again and again. Yaeda then kicks you off of her, a wild look in her eyes as she holds the assault rifle in two hands once more, the red of her own blood tainting the weapon's natural black into a twisted red. She looks at you in horror and there is a pause between the two of you.

You call forth the power of magic once more from the bottom of your being, channeling all the pain and suffering into strength. You bottle it all and change it into mana, infusing it with your device. You make it execute the program.
>>Tōketsu no Yari<<
It says it and from your palm goes a spear of ice, piercing her chest and pinning her straight to the wall of ice you created. Yaeda tries to struggle for a little bit, attempting the pull the great ice shard from her chest, but the blood loss is too much. After several long moments she falls on the spike, dead amongst the carnage. Her gun drops from her hand with a clang and all that is left is the slow dripping of blood from her hand.

"Match over!" Comes the yell of the officer, jolting you back to reality. "The winner is Squad 347!" Your vision starts to fade as you hear the screams and yells of Kazue and Maiya as they rush towards you. Soon all fades to darkness.

When you wake up, you are in a hospital bed, eerily similar to the one that you woke up in after Tetsuya "rescued" you that one night. Sitting right next to you are Mio and Kazue, with Maiya standing at the end of the bed.
"See, I told you she would wake up." Says Maiya, talking to Kazue. "Welcome to the world of the living, Miyako."

Noice Match, I r8 9/11 m8 would follow thread again.

You try to smile, but it hurts to do so. "So...some fight that was huh?" You say as a joke but Maiya looks you seriously in the eyes.
"Don't joke about that, Miyako." He says. "We were worried sick about you. Chikako won't admit it, but the reason he's not here is because he doesn't want to see you in the condition your in. You almost died." You hear him whisper under his breath. "I was wrong to send you third. I thought you were ready...This is all my fault..."
You try to change the subject. "Anyways, what are the results of the match?"
"We won." Mio replies. "Our next prelim match is in a couple weeks. Until then it's regular training and classes. You should spend the weekend resting."
"Listen..." You begin.
"Don't want to hear it." Says Maiya. "Rest. We'll see you later."
And the three of them stand up and leave.

The next few days are filled with restless sleep for you but eventually by Sunday morning the doctors give you the OK to return to normal activities. When you return to the room, the atmosphere in the room seems as if nothing has changed.
"Welcome back." Everyone says, with the exclusion of the characteristically-silent Chikako. You are still thinking over what Maiya said several days ago, about Chikako not wanting to see you when you were hospitalized. Regardless of the current atmosphere and oblivious to what was going on in between the lines, Kazue approaches you.
"Your class planner came in yesterday." She says. "You can organize what sort of stuff you want to spend time doing. Until the next prelim that is."

QM, was the battle equal in changes of winning or losing. Was she stronger or weaker than us?
>>
>>44540142
Combination of luck and your skill in swordsmanship. You would've been in deep shit if you didn't block those bullets or rolled high enough on that final ice spike. You both were equally matched in terms of magical ability but in straight combat yaeda had the upper hand due to long range as well as metal manipulation. You just caught her offguard with your unconventional fighting tactics
>>
>>44540186
And there will be more as long as my creativity is there and my mind runing on 20 galons of cofe a minute!
>>
>>44540186
Could our team won, if we had lost?
>>
>>44540290
Possibly, but either Mio or Chikako (both long range fighters) would have to go up against Kayae, the highest ranking mage on the enemy squad
