Well, that was messy.

Fortunately, the crowd of people besieging (benevolently, but it's still a siege) your mansion return to their homes, bit by bit, as do, hopefully, the two Immaculate Dragon-Blooded that were trying to break up the crowd in the first place.

That could've ended in a whole lot of violence, but fortunately no one got hurt. Yet.

After returning inside and retelling the story to Tia and Amata (and earning the latter's praise for handling the whole mess "pretty well", her words), you finish your breakfast and go on to give the Steelshard mercenaries their daily training regimen in the mansion's courtyard.

Despite their discipline, the relaxed atmosphere of the Neck and the general feeling of being "on vacation" is making them rather lax.

You can't blame them too much, really. This trip feels like a much-needed rest break for everyone involved, and the best way to recover and regenerate themselves after the battle against Skullstone... brutal both physically and psychologically, for everyone involved.

Of course, thanks to that lost bet with Tia, you're bound to be the only one who's not going to see much rest, or any at all, during this whole trip. Maybe you shouldn't have let her win so easily.

After finally managing to claw your way out of the bedroom and her clutches, you try and consider what your next step would be.

This is where Amata's advice would come in really useful. She's brilliant when it comes to politics and scheming and general.

Which is why you're not quite sure she's taking things seriously herself, when your butler, Regis, informs you that she's apparently out in the streets of Solid Shell, shopping for clothes with Millian.

You glance out of the window. It's about four in the afternoon. The sunlight reflects on the calm sea and the coral rooftops of the city like on a beautiful gemstone.

"...What do we do now?" You mumble, gathering your ideas.

"I know what we do now." Tia suggests, attempting to grab you and drag you back to the bedroom.

"Come on, Tia." You grab the armrests of the sofa you're sitting in and resist her forceful tugs. "I need a break."

"Oh, fine." She rolls her eyes and rolls over the sofa, landing sitting in your lap.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its power for himself.
And now, on the day of your wedding, the Unconquered Sun Himself appeared to you and crowned you Princess of Creation, asking you to be an example for others in these dark times.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. "Get dressed." You suggest to Tia as you leap off the sofa and get ready yourself. "We're going out."

"I am dressed." She protests.

"Boots and gloves don't count."

Pouting, she returns to the bedroom and returns, after a few seconds, clad in her usual white dress.

As you're about to leave the compound, Erman steps by you and asks: "Sure it's a good idea to walk around town after what happened this morning?"

"We'll be fine." You reassure him.

"Should I give you a few soldiers as escort?" He asks, concerned

Tia bursts out laughing.

His face darkens in response. "I know you don't NEED protection. But people here don't quite know what you're capable of. If you're alone you might get attacked. Sure, you'll be alright, but you'll still be involved in a fight in a public place. If you're seen with an armed escort, the locals might find themselves less eager to start trouble.

Tia stops laughing and takes one step back, mumbling to herself.

"...That's a very good point." You admit. "But then, it's also true that we might give a bad impression if we're seen walking around with soldiers accompanying us, too."

"Probably." The mercenary shrugs. "Up to you."

"Well, give us two fangs of good men. Light armor, well-dressed and looking sharp, carrying just swords." You suggest. "Oh, and will you come with us as well?"

He seems surprised by the request. "...Huh? Me? Well... I'm not busy or anything right now, so I might as well I guess. Give me a minute to change."

Once everything is ready, after a short wait, you're introduced to your "escort". Erman got changed in a red tabard and black cloak worn over his leather and padded under-armor, sword at his side. His men, though lacking uniforms, still wear those colors in some fashion or another.

"Alright, be on your best behavior, everyone." Erman warns them. "Our purpose is to look tough and make sure that no one gets bad ideas, not to start anything. got it?" He starts drilling the concept in them as you head down to town.

As you could have predicted, your sudden reappearance on the streets of Solid Shell turns a lot of heads. People call out to you, and form crowds wherever you go, like fans hounding their favorite celebrity. The soldiers were a good idea, as they are helpful in keeping them off your immediate back.

Solid Shell's coral-covered arcades are beautiful shopping avenues, and the locals clearly know that. Every local artisan has his boutique, showing off all sorts of crafts: carved masks, oils and cosmetics, jewelry, books and scrolls, clothing for every occasion, perfumes and other decorations.

Tia doesn't seem to be quite interested in the shopping itself, but rather seems delighted by all the attention you're getting. You almost get the feeling that she's flaunting you. Of course, anytime you stop by a shop, she does her best to act genial with the shopkeeper, generally asking something along the lines of "Do you have anything that would look good on my beautiful wife?".

(cont.)
>>
Of course the shopkeepers are generally defensive around you, some outright scared that you're going to shake them down for merchandise and then leave without paying, so there's much surprise among their ranks when you break out your purse and pay in your very own gold Florins.

None of them question the validity of this new coinage in front of you, though a few act somewhat suspicious of it. Most, however, immediately recognize it for what it is: gold, carrying intrinsic value regardless of the shape it's minted into.

And, finally, like when you were back in Gem and just a simple kid spoiled rotten by fantastically rich parents and life was a lot simpler, you enjoy spending your pocket money around liberally, in high denominations, and cheerfully adding "Keep the change".

Tia refuses to let the soldiers accompanying you carry anything of what you buy, and she just does it herself, unconcerned with the weight or how tall the stack of boxes she needs to balance is.

"Are you sure it's wise to spend so much around here?" Erman whispers in your ear.

"What, you think we're going to get mugged?" You reply, sticking out your tongue.

"I'd certainly love to see that." He replies.

"Don't worry, this was part of Amata's plan. We want to make Tianna appear a lot wealthier than it is." You wink. "Are you enjoying the shopping trip?"

"I don't much enjoy shopping in general." He groans, clearly bored, glancing aside. Though he does seem briefly amused at the sight of Tia inspecting a seashell bikini, clearly with you in mind.

>You can go and have fun in town with your men. I think we're out of the woods for now. I and Tia will continue the shopping trip.

"Well, let's at least reach the far end of the street, then you'll be free to hit the pubs or wherever you want." You thank him and his men. "You've been great."

The shopping spree continues, doubtlessly making the fortune of several store owners and artisans with their workshops strewn along Shell Street. The entire road is somewhat sideways in respect to the dockside of the town, going through it but not stopping there and connecting instead the Coral Palace, the Neck's seat of government, and a flight of rising stairs carved from basalt, climbing straight up a steep hillside at the far end of town, ending in Amphiro's only cliff on the ocean.

At the top of the stairs at the end of the street, a massive iron gate stands tall, facing westwards and carrying the effigy of Danaa'd, the Elemental Dragon of Water and Guardian of the Western Direction. It's a rather impressive sight.

And as you approach the last few souvenir shops near that far end of Shell Street, you notice that your adoring fans begin to get nervous, and only the most determined keep swarming around you.

That's when you notice the Immaculate banners and flags and iconography, and a few of their mortal monks tending the gardens around the gate.

You get the feeling that they're not scared of the Immaculates per se, but they're worried that if you step straight into their temple, it might end in a fight.

Erman and his men, on the other hand, just steel themselves. They'll follow you. They're just getting ready in case they must follow you up those stairs.

"Oh, so this is where the Immaculate Temple is." You note nonchalantly, looking up the long flight of stairs.

A few of the monks glare down at you, as the realization of your presence at the bottom of the stairs grows.

You briefly scan them searching for the two Dragon-Blooded, but they're nowhere to be seen. Maybe inside the temple, or somewhere else.

You shrug. "Well, looks like there's no more shops past this point. We might as well go back home."

The tense atmosphere begins to melt. You hand a Florin to each of the soldiers accompanying you on your way back, as a "bonus for putting up with me for today", the sun setting behind your backs as you cross the city and return to the mansion in the countryside.

Tia has trouble fitting through the door with all the stuff you bought. You precede her inside and give her a hand.

...Maybe you overdid it, but there was a lot of pretty things, and you didn't resist. Plus, well, it was part of the plan.

Small artisan crafts are one of the Neck's major - and only - exports, so it makes sense that you'd be able to find some of their best in the capital city's shopping district. It's all very different from what you were used to back home - and, of course, a whole other league compared to Valeriana and Irene's craftsmanship - but still, people here do amazing things with what little metal they have, combined with their exotic woods, obsidian, semiprecious stones, and, more than anything else, seashells, pearls, and mother-of-pearl.

"So you bought a lot of junk." Amata's voice interrupts you as you were about to do today's inventory. "Don't you have quite enough clothes already?"

She's slouched on the sofa, wearing an elegant yet simple sundress and a wide-brimmed straw hat in place of her usual outfit, and her hair down. It's unusual to see her like this. You almost didn't recognize her.

"I think the floral-patterned curtains will really tie the room together back home in Pearl."

"Pyre Spark is a bad influence on you."

"What about you? What did you buy?"

"Oh, this dress, a new perfume, a pair of pearl earrings." She replies. "Not that much."

"Wait... really?" You're quite surprised by her honest reply. "Are you lying to hide something?"

"...No. Why would I?"

"Well, I thought that "shopping" was just an excuse and you were out working on some sinister plot again."

"Oh, please." She chuckles. "I'm not a full-time supervillain, you know."

"So you just... went out to have fun?"

"Even i have days I just want to go out and have fun."

"Wow."

"Of course I could be lying to cover a sinister plot again."

"God damn it Amata." You groan, dropping on the sofa next to her.

"Well, we're back." Tia smiles, setting down the last few boxes. Then, she grabs you off the sofa, before you have any chance to relax, and starts dragging you back into the bedroom, cheerfully.

"Wait! Wait!" You block her, holding on to the carpet.

"Oh, right, we can do it on the sofa too." She nods, undoing her dress.

"Actually, I meant the plan, you know! The plan to get the Neck on our side! We- uh. Shouldn't we work on that?"

Amata seemed to be greatly entertained by your exchange. "Actually, I think we're at a good point already. We have impressed the locals, started circulating our money, and even demonstrated that any hostility between us and the Immaculates is exclusively on their part."

"What's missing? Just meeting with the Chieftan?"

"More or less." She smiles. "We can do that anytime this week, besides. Remember, this is also a vacation for us."

You suspect there might be something more to it, of course. You'd bet good money that Amata's "shopping trip" wasn't just that.

You return to the sofa, Tia in tow. "So who do we need to punch to get the Neck?" She asks, hopefully not entirely serious.

Amata puts down a sheet of paper on the low table in front of the sofa, and, with a pencil, starts scribbling notes while she explains. You have no idea where she got either of those items from.

"You do remember how Okeanos works, right?"

"Five tribes, councils of elders on each island, the most important tribal council is on this one, and one of their number is elected to become the Chieftan." You remember. "He's more of a spokesman than an absolute leader, but he still is extremely influential. He's expected to take one wife from each tribe and to act impartial in all disputes."

She nods. "The current Chieftan is Bua Shing, 58 years old, from mixed Squalus and Smaragdi blood. He's been at the top of the game for quite some time, and, for a mortal, he's brilliant, quick, and determined, not to mention very popular. Feeling that the Realm's hold on Okeanos has grown weaker recently, he's trying to discreetly gain more leeway and independence."

"Organizing some sort of coup?" You wonder.

"Not at all. He's the type who does things slowly, carefully and by the book. He's calling for more frequent tribal councils, and strengthening the political structure of the archipelago, making it less dependent on the Realm's approval." He scribbles another name. "You want a coup, you're looking for Huann Rang. 25 years old. Tautoga tribe. Hot-blooded, charismatic and ambitious. He wants to be the next Chieftan, and he'll probably become it."

"Realm supporter?"

"Neutral. Him and his tribe want to recapture and purify an island that fell into the Skullstone shadowland centuries ago, called Cormorant. They consider it their ancestral homeland. The councils never let them try that, of course."

>3 days to make up for what she's going to lose to meetings and speaches over this week.
If Tia wanted the entire seven days, she should have picked a different week to boss us around, we specifically told her that if she chose this week that there would be times where we had other things we needed to do.
It was her choice to have less time to boss Maka around in exchange for having it sooner, she should have to deal the the consequences of impatience.

>"Ten days, wasn't it?" She slams her hands on your shoulders to keep you from squirming out of her grasp.

>"Was it?" You glance aside.

>"Ten days, those were the term of the bet."

>"But it was supposed to be a week originally..." You point out.

>"I changed the terms. Pray that I don't change them any more."

>You roll your eyes. "Alright, you got me. So, I'm your slave for ten days, dubject to your every whim. So, what is your bidding, my mistress?"

That was the post where Tia revealed the new terms, and EF had Maka agree to it without ever putting it up to a vote. There was never a chance to disagree.
>>

Why are we bitching about this? It's fine, if push comes to shove Tia will give us space. You guys need to stop complaining.

"Realm's got no friends in the Council?"

"No real friends, no real enemies. The Realm is... a remote presence." She writes another name: Sesus Chido. "Sesus Chido is the local satrap, taking the place of his grandfather Sesus Chenow. Chenow was a hero and a legend in his day. Retired here in the Neck, then became restless and left again."

"Got bored?" You wonder.

"He was old, and wanted to die in battle. It wasn't going to happen here. No one has any idea where he disappeared to. Unfortunately for the realm, Chido is not one hundredth of the man his grandfather was, and I don't mean it because he's a mortal and Chenow was Exalted. Chido is just... a waste of space and money. The biggest danger he poses to us is if you accidentally overestimate him. But he still IS the legal representative of the Realm in Okeanos."

"Where's the catch?" You wonder. It doesn't sound right.

"The catch," Amata smiles as she notices you've been paying attention, "is that, even if the Neck doesn't bring in a whole lot of cash, it's still something. Two other Realm houses have their eyes set on the Neck. House Peleps has the most holdings in the West, and they wouldn't mind adding one more. And House Nellens is the least of all Realm houses and desperate for income, prestige and success. I would be amazed if I found out they don't have any spies or agents in the Neck, waiting for the right chance to nab it from the Sesus."

"Where do the Immaculates fit in all this?"

"They probably don't. Sometimes, Immaculates get involved heavily in Realm politics, but I don't think it's the case here. The Neck is probably just a dumping ground for underachievers and undesirables within the Order." She adds "Immaculates" on the paper, in a corner, and circles it, then connects all other names with lines.

"Alright." You nod, taking in all the information. "Well, the way I see it..."

"Mhh." You tap the paper repeatedly, lost in through for a few seconds. "The one with true power here is Bua Shing. Chido has the station, but not the influence. The Immaculates have the influence, but not the station. and Huann Rang doesn't have either until Bua Shing bites the dust." You turn to Amata. "I know it's a bit cynical to ask, but how's Bua's health, actually?"

"He sails, fishes with spear and trident, dives, hunts, leads from the front against Lintha and pirate raids, and he could pull a loaded wagon better than a train of oxen. He placed third at last year's island-wide marathon."

"A lively one." You smile. "Your assessment?"

"You're right, I think In order, I'd take care of Bua Shing, then make sure Huann Rang is also on our side, or at least not hostile."

You nod. "Possibly using his enmity to Skullstone as leverage?"

"Of course."

"Then let them work the local public opinion, both on the populace and on the council. I'll probably have to appear before the council, but only after they've been prepared for it. Meanwhile, Chido needs to pack his things and go. That's the easy part."

"The immaculates will be harder."

"Yeah. For the spies from those other two houses, we can post Radiant Starfall here for a while to root them out, as soon as she get back from Gem."

Yeah, Gem. You can't help but wonder what's going on there right now.

[s+z=1 3 3 10 2 8 6 7 1 8 9 4 2 7 4 = 7 successes]

Unfortunately for your petty revenge schemes, by now you've ascertained that Tia is very, very difficult to completely break. Her stamina is way above even yours, and one of her stupid lunar tricks she's started using recently was the realization that she can technically shapeshift into "herself, just fully rested".

Cheater.

Of course, that's not going to stop you. You've got tricks of your own.

The struggle is real, and lasts all the way through the night and way into the morning, when at last you manage to get the edge on Tia and force her to call from a time out. Not quite from physical exhaustion, but more from having her brains scrambled by the overwhelming sensations and the massive amounts of Charms and Essence you've pumped inside her (among other things).

By then, she's long forgotten how to actually speak, and it even takes a while for her to figure out what a human shape is like again, but you get the gist of her message.

Amata slaps closed the book she started reading when everything became a bit too confusing and repetitive to properly follow from the outside, and smiles pleasantly. "Fun night?"

In five minutes, you string together a coherent answer.

(Cont.)
>>
"Well, at least you didn't collapse the house or crater the island or anything. You're learning."

Yeah, that was actually the hardest part. Containing Tia.

"Well, my turn?"

You groan.

"...Relax, I'm joking." She giggles, slapping your shoulder. "Get dressed. We need to pay a visit to Ocean Father, remember?"

You try and refresh yourself and make yourself presentable, get dressed and cleaned up, put on some of your new accessories and jewelry, and walk out with Amata in tow, leaving Tia to her attempts to put her legs back in their rightful place.

"Alright." You sigh. "Let's get the show started."

It seems like the islanders have gotten the message. There isn't anyone camped on your front door anymore. Like yesterday, Erman stands by, wondering if you'll need an escort.

Meanwhile, Amata hands her letter to Regis, who runs of to deliver it to the Chieftan.

"We're going to visit Ocean Father." You nod at Erman. "You coming with us?"

"Going to meet a god?" He shrugs. "Sure, why not."

You walk out of the gates and into the country roads, into Solid Shell, crossing the shopping district you were in yesterday, until you reach the coastline. There, a tall, tower-like building made from finely carved pink coral blocks stands tall next to simple fishermen's huts and houses spread all over this side of the island. Bit by bit, the usual crowd condenses about you. This time, without the soldiers to keep them at bay, and with news of your arrival making quite the rounds across the city, the islanders get a lot more close and personal with you.

Still careful and respectful, of course. They know you're dangerous. But their enthusiasm is hard to keep at bay.

They ask for autographs, for souvenirs. They try to touch you, they try to stop you and ask you all sorts of inane questions. If it's true that you're a demon. If the Immaculate Faith is wrong. If you've been to heaven. If it's true you're married. What do you eat. If they can touch. Why you're here causing trouble in their city. If you can bless them with fishing luck.

Normally, you'd get hopelessly bogged down in the crowd in zero time. But, your Anima Flare and Castemark are still quite bright, and that keeps people at bay, leaving you space to advance unimpeded. Finally you arrive at the temple's doorstep. There, a young priest with blue hair and unusually light skin stands before you, a scepter of office made from ice-like blue crystal in hand. The people with you keep their distance, clearly full of respect and maybe a bit of fear for the man, who gives you the feeling to be quite a bit older than he actually appears. A god-blooded, for sure.

"Garan Zha." He bows to you, respectfully as well, but keeping what looks like a rather sarcastic smile on his lips. "Son and high priest of Ocean Father. He told me about you."

"Good things, I hope." You smile politely. "Can we join you inside?"

"Sure, follow me." He walks into the structure. The inside is cool, almost cold. Trickles of water flow on small channels dug into the walls, filling the (rather dark) temple with a pleasant white background noise. The only window is opposite to the entrance, and overlooks the sea. The floor is sunken under a palm of crystal clear water, icy to the touch but actually quite pleasantly refreshing after a few steps. You notice Amata and Erman taking their shoes off and washing their feet in a small, separate side-pool full of soapy water before entering, and you do likewise.

"He did tell me that you were helping him with retrieving an item he's been looking for for a very long time." Zha continues, leading you inside. There isn't much to speak of as far as furnishing goes, but that contributes to give to the temple a grandiose and solemn feel. "And that you're an ally and a friend."

"Any chance we might meet him?" You suggest.

"That depends." Again that humorless grin. "Why are you truly here?"

"Oh, you know..."

You thoughtfully and carefully make your way to the center of the room, then, timing your movement perfectly, you turn about to face Zha, smile brilliantly, and answer.

"...I thought the time for ripe for the Crown Princess of Creation to pay an official visit to Father Ocean, Lord of the Waves, Shogun of the Western Seas."

His grin dies, leaving his mouth wide agape. In those five seconds his brain is spending hopelessly trying to catch up with what you just said, the Lesser Crown of Thunders blooms and explodes in its full brilliance upon your head.

Five more seconds of confused staring are the result. He sees, he knows, he understands, but he doesn't quite believe.

Then, he hits the ground faster than a sack full of cannonballs, dropping to his knees and palms on the water-covered floor.

"Ocean Father is a valid ally, and a good friend. I am heavily indebted to him. I wanted to let him know that my oaths, debts and promises to him are not forgotten now that the Unconquered Sun has bestowed this high honor upon me."

As you expected, it doesn't take long for the god himself to materialize, just next to his kowtowing son and high priest, taking shape from the water of the temple itself in a massive, swirling shape.

"Maka." He lowers his head before you.

"Father Ocean." You reply. "It's nice to see you again and find you well." You let the full splendor of the crown wane back to its "normal" state, a blooming flower of golden electricity hovering and dancing about your head.

"I don't think the Unconquered Sun could have chosen a better candidate." He takes your offered hand, and places a gentlemanly kiss on its back. "What brings you here?"

You take his hand in your own. "I'm here with the intention of taking my first steps towards the formation of a great western kingdom. I wouldn't dare do it without informing you first, of course."

That's when you notice, with a side glance, that Amata, standing silently behind you, has her Castemark lit as well. She smiles, saying nothing, but the God has noticed it.

Does it mean anything to him? You have to wonder.

"Are you seeking to re-establish the ancient rule of the First Age?" He asks, lifting a watery eyebrow.

"The First Age was a... complicated era. Many grand, awesome and beautiful things happened. Many others were nothing short of monstrous." You frown. "I like to think of myself as someone who looks at the future. From that past, I seek only to learn from the errors that were made."

He seems to appreciate the answer.

"As my most powerful divine ally in Creation, I thought you deserved to know about the blessing and approval the Sun bestowed upon me." You let go of his hand. "Will you please keep the knowledge of this... reserved, though?"

"Of course. I understand secrets, and have a few myself." He smiles and winks. "I appreciate the trust you're placing in me. If your plan is to make the West great, happy and save once more, then you have my full support. But that you already knew."

Zha doesn't interject, but you get the feeling that he feels the same as Ocean Father on these issues.

"Well, if you don't mind a question, I was wondering..."

"Do ask." The god replies.

"How would you suggest I go about making a good impression with the Chieftan and the Council?"

"Mh." He caresses his beard, thinking about it for a few moments. "Good question. The people of Okeanos want nothing more than to be ignored and forgotten. Your interest in them is threatening their survival strategy."

"I've got no ill will towards them, you know."

"But they'll be concerned nonetheless." He explains. "You'll have to reassure them of three things." He counts on his fingers. "First, that they will keep their traditions, customs, religion and culture. Second, that they will not be involved firsthand in any dangerous wars they're not willing to fight, and will be protected. Third, that they will not be forcibly involved firsthand in anything hostile."

"Such as?" The last point was worded oddly.

Zha straightens his back. "Assume that you will be defeated, Princess. Or, even if not that, that you will be one day forced to abandon Okeanos, which will be re-occupied by the Realm. They are worried about that."

"That the Realm will retaliate in some kind on the local population." You realize. "Well, I don't plan on giving them any excuse for doing that. Of course, they might do it without any valid excuse."

"That is out of your hands." The god nods. "Frankly said, all the people from Okeanos want, in the short term, is to be safe, peaceful, and out of the limelight. Promise them this, and you will have their ears."

You lift an eyebrow. "What about the long term?"

He smiles. "Of course... they want Okeanos back."

"Alright. Thank you." You shake his hand. "And... thank you for your help during the battle as well. I owe you so much."

"It was not a big deal." He shakes his head dismissively.

"Oh, I'd like to ask something to you as well, Zha."

He seems startled all of sudden. "Huh? Wha? Me? O- okay, what is it?"

At long last, his sarcastic smile returns. "...Well, I do know a few moves. I'll drop by and offer my expertise, I guess."

>>44551780
I'll have to start making it extremely explicit in my votes that I want to not ask any questions even if there are reasonable suggestions, I guess.

>>44551753
Yep text on an image board can convey smugness. I'm not being smug, I'm just trying to keep people from fucking up this quest.

Just thought I'd clear things up a bit.

I believe that my job as a quest master is less that of being a text parser, and more that of getting a general idea of what's going on and where the voters in general want to go, and write something that fits and pushes the plot along.

When I say "voters in general", I mean that the majority vote should be generally followed, but outliers and singular votes with interesting write-ins that are not in direct contrast with the majority vote should be considered.

Particularly write-ins, because they're people who've bothered to type out a custom response instead of going with the ones given to them. If you've been following my threads, you know that I've generally tried to pay attention to write-ins where possible.

Ever since we hammered together a general "personality" for Maka after the first few threads, I've been doing a lot of "filling in the blanks". I don't ask for votes for every single word said or action done, and instead often use the votes for general direction and important choices, and fill in the less important things, the "fluffy bits", so to speak, with things that fit Maka's established personality and character.

Of course, I make mistakes quite often. I'm genuinely sorry for those.

For example, much like >>44551616, I expected the "say goodbye and leave" option to be, effectively, a "I don't have anything special to ask, so as far as I'm concerned we can leave", not "Maka must immediately leave the scene without any more conversation other than a goodbye".

In hindsight, I should've probably split those two options and made the assumptions clearer. I'm sorry for this.

Still, I had Maka chat a bit more before leaving, asking those write-in questions, because:

1) They didn't have any possible obvious serious negative repercussions.
2) They were questions I hadn't thought about, and I felt that they were interesting and deserved an answer.
3) It fits Maka's established character to ask those questions.
4) I always weight write-ins highly when calculating votes, because by their nature write-ins get less votes than options stated in my posts, but they're often very interesting as they come directly from you, the players.
5) This sort of thing has happened other times in the past and never seemed to bother anyone.

This, of course, is not a very valid excuse. I should've been clearer when stating the options myself.

But, just so everyone knows: I don't compute votes in a strictly mathematical way, with the one option with the most votes passing and all others being discarded. I've always been clear about this, but just in case, let me reiterate. Votes, but also most non-vote discussion in the thread, is essentially Maka's thought process. It's a heavy influence on what Maka decides to do, but it's parsed and interpreted by myself before being transformed in actions that Maka does, which I type out accordingly.

If you do not appreciate this style of mastering, I'm sure there are other quests out there which do things differently and more to your liking. You shouldn't stick with a quest that you're not having fun with.

For everyone else who is not loudly proclaiming that they're dropping the quest because of what is, in my view, a minor issue, yet is still here to read this: This is legitimately an issue started by a mistake I made, and I'll try not to repeat it in the future by fielding clearer options. Sorry.

I've thought a bit about it, in fact. Bond charms with familiars are obviously Zenith, and part of the "survival" tree, so they have either Friend of Creation or Eternal Survivor Attitude (the Survival dice-adder) as prerequisites.

As an aside, Maka doesn't yet have the Resistance excellency, which means a few resistance charms are still locked.

>>
>>44552157
I'm not the one saying that write-in questions should go unanswered.
The reasonable default in casual social situations has always been "leave once we've run out of questions/time." We weren't pressed for time, so it's perfectly natural for EF to assume that a vote for leaving is just saying "I can't think of anything else, we can leave."
Of course write-in questions are going to overrule that. If you specifically wanted to leave right there without talking further, you should have said so, even if your post's just the vote and "Time's wasting, let's roll." Cutting off the conversation is a departure from the norm and should be treated as such.

I'm still surprised we don't have lightning speed yet. With the traveling we do and the rides we bum from the Lunars, it seems like we'd get plenty of use out of it. Plus it just seems the natural counterpart to Monkey Leap.
>>
For reference, Survival also has:
- charms for interacting in various ways with animals, up to and including some minor shapeshifting. Not QUITE anything even remotely close to what Lunars have, but still useful and interesting things.
- charms to deny natural obstructions and difficult terrain, for yourself or groups, and trailblazing.
- charms for foraging and seeking food and shelter, that evolve into charms about magical farming and agriculture.
Plus other stuff if i get some brilliant ideas.
I've always found that Survival kind of gets a short stick normally, and would like to see it gets some cool stuff instead.

Not quite, but I decided they didn't work as Solar charms. Solars aren't designed to work as gods. They CAN gain a Cult, but it's not in the natural order of things for them to be worshiped, so they don't have Cult charms. (Gods do have them).

Please God say yes to that last one. I NEED IT.

>- charms to deny natural obstructions and difficult terrain, for yourself or groups, and trailblazing
Would one of the top charms in that tree let our footsteps build a road as we walk? Because that'd be pretty neat.

You could only adopt one animal feature at a time, and no major body transformations. Cat ears is okay. Fluffy tail is okay. Eagle fingernails is okay. Sprouting wings or the lower body of a horse like a centaur is not.

It also needs to be a natural animal you have as a Familiar and have a bond with. (No, Silk is not a "natural animal". there's charms to get benefits from her, but they're further up the tree)

I'd like to get a look at the charms further up the tree. I realize you normally don't do that, but its kinda hard to buy on faith.
>>
>>44552994
This.
I want Catgirl Maka, but not if it means investing deep in a charm tree just for that purpose. The fact of the matter is that most of the time, we just aren't somewhere where survival (against nature, at least) is a real issue, and we've already got the basics covered.
We're immune to natural hazards, so rain and sleet and snow and wind aren't an issue, while unnatural hazards are preventable for just 1C each day. We can go days without food or water or sleep, and our other charms make acquiring such in that time frame fairly easy. We don't really NEED shelter to bunk out in the wilderness, so what are the early Survival charms offering us?
>>
>>44553159
Honestly, for us? Not much, but they also work on groups, that's taking an army through the Southern Desert without care for heat or food, we can march through Western swamps without being bothered by bugs or slowed march.
>>
>>44553214
Those are some really fucking long-term concerns, though. The only sort of natural hazard we need to worry about leading people through for the foreseeable future is the ocean, and Sail charms are an Eclipse thing.
