I am reposting from the last unsaved thread. Feel free to chime in as you arrive, new posts will be incoming shortly.
--

You are Second Lieutenant CT-42/458, and you are standing in General Kenobi's improvised command center, the basement of an obsolete concrete bunker. Six hours ago AT-TE 7330, the hastily repaired TX-130, and the remainder of the General's forces began the mop up operation of the B-1 battle droid stragglers. Afterwards, a relief force mostly consisting of Loyalist infantry arrived and began the search for survivors as well as taking over the garrison of the location, allowing for Kenobi and your two tanks to retreat back to the main base of Republic operations in the southern hemisphere, Shelter Base.

You have just finished providing your debrief of the battle, which you learned was for the control of the city of Jaxx. You informed him and Commander Cody of all aspects of the battle excluding the discussion with Xtreme concerning Sparks going "off the reservation," Twitch's "marketplace," and other minor details about your first 24 hours in combat. You reexplained the encounter with the lightsaber user in more detail; bringing up Crusader's sword fight with him when the General expressed his disbelief that mere clones were able to defeat a force user. Your report was concise, professional, and above all, utterly exhausting.

You are now standing at attention in a musty, poorly lit concrete room before the General, who is leaning on his hands at the edge of a battered holographic gambling table. On the table is an old paper map of the area, the table deactivated due to the number of fellow troopers running setting up a generator in the corner, running power lines, setting up better lighting and doing everything else to create a proper command center.

Fatigue clings to your muscles and you feel yourself struggle to maintain a stiff posture, though a small part of you is glad to see that the General is sagging with weariness. He rubs his eyes.

"Being caught unprepared by a Separatist attack, by a full division no less, facing nuclear weapons, all with an understrength battalion? It sounds like you had quite the day, Lieutenant, and I'm surprised that you were able to not only survive but successfully repel their assault." Kenobi says before slowly standing back upright. He crosses one arm across his chest and rests a hand on his chin before continuing, "Though unfortunately we suffered severe losses. I am afraid that I may have to label the 4th Battalion as unfit for duty and fold the remaining soldiers into another outfit."

Cody cuts in for the first time. "General, you know the Senate will be breathing down your throat about casualties if you declare the 4th Battalion defunct."

The General sighs, pinching his nose with two fingers. "Yes, I know Commander, but what would you have me do? Reinforcements are spread thin as it is across the Outer Rim!" Kenobi slams his hand down on the edge of the old table, causing you to flinch back. You stay staunchly silent in the discussion.

"The few reinforcements we would receive will be cut off due to the Senate's outrage at the news that a whole battalion was killed nearly to a man on the first day of an invasion, sir." Despite his overly stiff posture and balled fists. Cody does his best to maintain a professional tone.

Kenobi shakes his head, gesturing with his free hand as he speaks. "I am well aware of the situation Commander, I just do not see a way out of it. The chain of command for the 4th Battalion has been completely destroyed, and I can't rightfully send raw enlisted into battles without good officers."

"Sir, not all the officers were lost." Cody turns his attention towards you, nodding his head.

"I see an officer who has proved himself in battle right here."

As the General turns to face you, you cannot halt the anxiety from boiling in your gut. Nor can you halt the sliver of excitement as well; in response you subtly straighten your posture.

"You are right, he did lead the defense against the final Separatist assault, and held off an entire battalion with only his walker and Bandit's scout company." After a thoughtful pause, Kenobi whips his head back towards Cody with an incredulous expression. "You are not suggesting we hand over control of the whole battalion to him?"

Cody shakes his head. You hear a gruff chuckle emit from his helmet. "No sir, but stranger things have happened in this war. Until a replacement is comes in from Kamino, CT-42/458 is technically the commanding officer of the 1st Armored Company, and his leadership quotient is high, according to the reports we received from the training instructors." Pride wells up inside of you. You did graduate top of your birthing cycle, after all. "The 4th Battalion can still live on in name, though it would have to work closely with one of the other battalions in future operations." Cody gives you a sidelong look and tilts his head slightly to the side. Though you cannot see, you get the feeling that he just winked at you.

"Well, it is true that a shipment of replacements is arriving in a week," Kenobi says slowly while stroking his beard. You feel uncomfortable at the glint in his eyes. "And while I normally would be concerned about the company's ability to field armor, the repairs on the damaged vehicles are going swimmingly, though sadly not all can be saved. Also, we have to establish the chain of command for the incoming officers." Like a predator locking onto their prey, Obi-Wan Kenobi's eyes lock with yours. You really do not lik-

"1st Lieutenant CT-42/458, you are hereby promoted to the acting commanding officer of the 1st Company." You feel a hand patting your shoulder as your world swirls, your confidence wavering. You, in command of an entire Company?

"While I am sorry to say that your forces are, well, let's say a little sparse at the moment," Why does the General sound amused? "I am sure that you will be able to pull it off. In the meantime, your forces will be attached to-" The metal door squeals behind you, the sound echoing what is going on in your thoughts right now, and clipped steps enter the room. Kenobi breaks out into a wide smile. "Ah, here he is now! 1st Lieutenant, meet your temporary superior officer."

"It's bloody fine to finally meet you, Lieutenant." You recognize the gruff voice you have only heard over comms up to now. Rigidly you perform a perfect about-face turn on the heel of your right foot, plant your feet, and ratchet your arm into a crisp salute.

"Good to finally meet you, Major." You respond.

As Bandit laughs, you take a moment to examine his armor. He is wearing the scout's armor with an officer's pauldron and a belt filled to the brim with pouches, many of which you identify as holding explosives.

His armor, rather than the solid dark green and browns you normally associate with scouts, is instead a speckled pattern of blacks, dark browns, greys, greens, and blues that blends in well with the harsh shadows being painted against the concrete walls. Urban camo, you decide, and like with Twitch you have difficulty getting anything more focused than a hazy outline of the Major outside of the light.

He is holding his helmet on his hip. He looks nothing like a regulation clone. His head has been shaved bald and looks to be damaged from old burn wounds, but a thick black beard and goatee covers the lower half of his face.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44586331
Starting on the left side of his face and moving towards the back of his skull is a pattern that reminds you of the streaks of swirling starfighters in a massive dogfight, a fierce battle that goes on to no end. Vibrant reds and blues almost seem to scream along his skin, much of the work adhering to Bandit's scar tissue.

After you tear your eyes away from the brilliant tattoo work, awe wells up inside of you after spotting the weaponry he is carrying: two holsters containing DC-15s blaster pistols at his hips, a DC-17m IWS hanging off his side on a strap crossing his chest, as well as a DC-15S blaster carbine slung along the back of his belt.

Commando weapons. How did he obtain those? Though the Commandos are fine soldiers of the Republic, your experience with them is that they are incredibly possessive of their gear and would rather spend time in the brig than let any other clone touch it, especially the ARC troopers. Back on Kamino, you remember watching the two groups' rivalry grow from petty pranks into fistfights in the rec room, each trying to prove to the other that they were the elite troops of the Republic.

You are unsure which are more 'elite.'

Bandit clears his throat, bringing you back into the present with a jolt. Again Bandit laughs his gruff laugh. "Faded out for a moment there, mate? Yes, it's me, you don't have to worry." Bandit pats his free hand on his chest and a dull thump resounds in the small room. "All 'ere, rookie."

"Major," Kenobi cuts in, tone professional yet surprisingly, Warm? "Show the Lieutenant around the base, and be sure to introduce him to his new Company's facilities."

The Major quickly performs a proper salute. "Yes, General." He gently grabs you by the arm and tugs, urging you to exit the room. A portion of your dazed senses returns to you and you allow yourself to be guided out the door and down the hallway. As you walk, the Major is speaking to you.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44586351
"Alright mate, looks like I'm playing tour guide for you." Bandit coughs into his hand with a flourish clearing his throat loudly. When he speaks again, you are struck by how similar he sounds to one of the confident salesmen that you watched on Holonet commercials on breaks, the ones who always tried to sell the troopers something called "Life insurance."

"Shelter base is one of the oldest military fortresses on Jabiim, a feat of engineering that ages back to when the local government was a mishmash of disorganized feuding factions. Hundreds of these fortresses dot the planet, each the home of an independent King who was trying to declare themselves "Supreme King" of the planet. After thousands of years and the enlightening rise of democracy," At this point Bandit opens a door to the surprisingly clear twilight, revealing a series of squat, rectangular, poorly maintained bunkers reinforced and crudely repaired with durasteel panels. The compound seems to have been built into the incline of a hill, and you happen to be standing on the high ground.

In the center of the large interior is a tall, ornate building with a number moderately tall spires surrounding a broad and extreme tall one in the middle, next to which you spot a line of hanger bays that are still under construction by Republic troops.

On the opposite side you spot the edge of a series of landing pads, currently empty except for boxes of supplies and a handful of LAATs. Outside the outer walls and slightly downhill, you see the tall rusted towers of ancient cranes and humps of what you think are mining vehicles.

Bandit continues after allowing you to soak in the view you were too distracted to appreciate when you entered, "These very same fortresses became hubs of mining, supplying the foundries that were later built on this planet with essential materials, and enabling the cities similar to the nearby Jaxx to develop and thrive."

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44586374
"Then, years ago, these bases became the homes of pirates, and bandits, though not as honorable as yours truly, of course," Bandit shares a sly grin with you. "Who had come to this planet to pillage its people and their resources. Now they are strategic locations in the ongoing bloody civil war we have been sent to intervene, in order to repel the Separatists from Republic soil."

Bandit rests his arms on his hips and gives a swift nod towards the compound. You cannot help but stare at him in shock as he looks extremely proud of himself.

"Major?" You query. He gives a satisfied grunt. "How do you know all of that?"

"Huh mate?" He cocks his head at you, a confused expression soon shifting to realization.

His voice has returned to normal. "Oh, right, they don't teach galactic history anymore, all about those simms, am I right?" You nod. "Well, I am what you might call a history buff. I like to know about the worlds we are sent to, and with knowledge of the past can come tactical thinking they don't train you in the simms." He taps the side of his skull with his finger and gives you a wink.

"Alright, now, where would you like to go?" He vaguely waves towards the inner courtyard. "We have all the facilities you need. There's a fully stocked field hospital ran mostly by the Loyalists, good lot the bunch of them when you get to know them, over there are the vehicle bays where your AT-TE is being repaired, barracks are in the basement of the castle, and we even have a sanctioned rec room." Bandit looks away slit-eyes for a moment before leaning in at the distance normally reserved for trading secrets and conspiracies like in the smuggler holovids, as well as giving reports while surrounded and hiding from enemy forces.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44586402
"Also, there's an unsanctioned rec room, if you catch my drift. They have good access to beverages from all over the galaxy even in wartime, and I owe you one for pulling me and my scouts out of that hotbox earlier."

He leans back out, brushing his shoulder off. "If you would like, I could give you a tour of the castle if you would like, or the outer perimeter. I have most of this place mapped out, so if you stick with me kid, you won't get lost." He taps an extended finger on your chest piece. "That's the same on the field as well, you remember that. So, what do you say, Lieutenant?"

As Bandit leads you down into the compound, your thoughts turn inward as the latent energy adrenaline provides slowly fades away now that the danger has passed.

For the past 12 hours, adrenaline has been coursing through your veins and keeping your wits sharp. It has kept you moving; it has countered and conquered your fear as your training took control of you on that battlefield. Your rapid-fire decisions had saved your life on multiple occasions, and without your training to focus under high pressure, high speed situations back on Kamino, you would have died earlier today.

The thought loops through your mind again. You could have died. Today, your first day defending the Republic from her enemies, could have been your last.

You remember watching the holovids and seeing the hero skirt death at every turn, always a hair's breadth away from being killed by gangers or dark Sith. You always imagined what it would be like to be one of those smugglers, traveling the furthest reaches of the Outer Rim, but what you imagined was in no way similar to reality.

You could have died. In fact, you nearly died multiple times. From a stray blaster bolt like what almost got Phi, to the nuclear warhead, or the Fallen Jedi, or even when the C-9979 came crashing down. At every turn, a wrong move could have led to your death, though you always were fast enough to avoid it.

Well, almost every time. When the GATs were screaming at your position, you were helpless. When the building started to collapse, you were doomed, and only luck saved you from getting smashed like Kep was. Though you were not entirely lucky, you did not leave the battle unscathed. You remember the confusion you felt when you say the metal pole impaling your leg, and then the pai-

"Unf-" A pained grunt is all you can get out as a searing agony shoots up your left leg. Reaching down with your left hand, you try and clutch your wound, somehow stop the pain. You stumble a few steps down the hill you are walking, losing balance, your nerves are screaming, your head is pitching forward. You try and raise your arm to stop your fall.

"Hey," Strong arms grab the back of your armor, halting your descent. Bandit's helmet tumbles a few feet down the shallow hillside as he says, "Lieutenant, mate, don't go off and die on me!" He lift you back up into him and it is all you can do to stay on your feet. All strength is gone from your limbs. Bandit lifts your limp arm over his shoulders and rests your weight on him.

"Alright mate, stay with me. It would be a shame if your good luck ran out here, eh?" Bandit trudges with you forward a few steps. He reaches down, slowly so not to throw you off balance, and picks up his helmet and places it on his head. You hear the microphone of the helmet speak, "Off to the Doc we go, then. And I was starting to think you were a good luck charm."

The world spins and twirls like a crashing wave, then stops.

----

You awaken on a thin mattress. As you groggily open your eyes, every limb in your body quietly burning from fatigue, you are surrounded by teal sheets. After looking around the undersides of them, you see the boots Major standing to your right on the other side of one with his back to you, facing the next bed. You tune into their conversation.

"-ate, Phi, how are you holding up?" The Major is saying.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44586456
"Ah, you know, about as well as a man with a hole in his chest can be." Phi's voice sounds weak and slightly nasally. "Though I guess I have you to thank for that."

Bandit shakes his head and waves dismissively at Phi. "Don't worry about it mate, we clones have to look out for each other. Hell, your Lieutenant saved my scouts at least 3 times, least I could have done to keep your unlucky hide alive." Bandit rests a hand on his holster. You hear him make a tut sound. "In all the time I've know you Phi, never once have you been hit. Now that the old Commander is gone and you got this Shiny commanding you, your luck seems to have gone out the airlock."

"Blast it all, what are you talking about Bandit?" Phi makes agitated motions with his arm. "What does the old Commander have to do with this?"

Bandit extends his arms in a sign of surrender. "Easy mate, no hard feelings. I'm just saying, I saw the droid that got you. A B-1, of all things. The bloody things couldn't hit a walker if you were standing right over them and a Jedi was guiding their shot. See what I mean?"

You hear Phi grumble some sort of affirmation. Footsteps echo resound to your left on the tile floor.

"Now, I understand you all surviving that bloody clusterfuck we just went through, you lot always found a way, even when the last three commanders the Captain tried to pin on you didn't pan out. Oh," You head a shuffling of armor. "I wanted to tell you that I am sorry about Big. Unlucky, that."

The footsteps are getting closer.

Phi sighs. "The Lieutenant is good at what he does, don't get me wrong. He's young and inexperienced, but we all were at some point." He pauses. You can hear the shuffling of sheets, and the footsteps are nearly at your bed.

"I don't know, Major. Jackpot, and Twitch too, they were both adamant after we landed on this planet. You know how they are all superstitious, but they were saying that he was a jin-"

Phi's quiet voice is cut off as the curtain towards your feet is whipped to the side. You jolt upwards at the sound and whip your head around to see-

A trooper covered in yellow X's, holding a syringe that is nearly as broad and long as his forearm.

The visor stares at you, emotionless. Then, a slight mad giggle escapes through the microphone.

"Lieutenant," You hear him practically squee. "I'm here to help!" He takes a step towards you, looming at the edge of the bed.

Your heart drops. This can't be good.

Back on Kamino when you were younger, it was common for troopers to pull pranks on each other. It was allowed up to a certain point by the instructors because it taught you to "always stay on your toes," though if it was taken too far they would step in. Both those who pulled the prank and, if applicable, those who were pranked would get scolded for different reasons.

Good thing is, you were always the best at avoiding being pranked, and you learned a few tricks along the way.

You play up the confusion as you sit up, waving your arms to deter the incoming needle. Xtreme takes another step towards you "What?" You say in your perfected 'Generic Clone Voice.' Xtreme edges closer to you, slowly bring the syringe to bear. "Lieutenant? No, I-I'm just a Corporal! C-corporal Lance! Please, stop!" You cower behind your hands, playing up the act of you being terrified.

Xtreme moves to take another step before hesitating. Good. He cocks his head to the side. "The nurse said the Lieutenant was here." He states in a monotone.

You peak above your hands to look at him. You continue to talk in the quick, panicked tone. "What, that new Lieutenant? Jinx, or something like that?"

Xtreme lowers his syringe, and his posture relaxes. Looks like that's the name they have been using for you, and because they have their private comm channel, he thinks there is no way you could know that name. Good.

"Yeah, that's who I'm looking for. Lance, was it? Do you know where he is? I have a, surprise for him."

You slowly lower your hands. "So, you aren't going to plunge me with that big needle?"

"No, Corporal, I won't plunge you with this needle." Xtreme states blandly, his head moving as if he were rolling his eyes.

"Alright, alright, j-just leave me be." You look him in the eyes then point them to the curtain to your right. "I don't know where he could be, I just heard about him, you know?" You nudge your head to the right slightly. "N-now can you please l-leave?"

Xtreme's helmet glances to where you are motioning to. He looks back at you and solemnly nods before slowly sliding over to the next curtain. As he gets out of sight, you quietly grab your pillow behind you. Your leg feels much better, you note, and glancing down you do not even see a bandage. Odd.

The curtain to your right sways slightly near the wall, causing you to whip you head back. You see Bandit standing beside you, and he gives you a wink.

The sheet to your right is torn open, and you hear a mad battle cry.

"AAARRRRRGGGGG-"

"AH DAMMIT X WH-"

There is a loud crashing and a deep thump as the bed's supports shatter. You swing your legs around and stand, Bandit helping you up, as you hear X's mad laughter.

"DRINK UP COMMANDER, YOU NEED MINK TO GIVE YOU STRONG BONES!"

"GLUGBLURFLALGUF-" Is the articulate response you hear. You walk out of the bed with only a slight limp. Bandit points two fingers to the left, then motions with a thumb behind him, winking again.

You catch his drift. As the two of you casually walk, you turn around and fling the pillow up and over the curtains. With a light poomf, you hear Xtreme's mad glee stop in a heartbeat.

"GLUBLURF- BAH! X, you nut, it's me, Phi!"

You and Bandit speed walk to the end of the corridor, but there you hear the sprinting feet of an enraged clone approach from behind you.

As you reach the door, you turn around and point wildly behind the charging clone. You call out in your Generic Clone Voice, "There he is! He's running that way!"

Xtreme skids to a halt a bare meter in front of you, exuding a huff of frustration before turning around, squatting so to immediately begin running again.

You plant a solid foot on his back, your good leg, and push. As Xtreme began his wild sprint, your extra momentum makes him lose balance, flying stomach first onto the ground and landing directly on his syringe. The glass shatters.

You it smells of rancid bantha milk. Good think you did not drink that, you know a trooper who almost died after being dared to chug a glass of that vile stuff.

"Come on mate," Bandit says with a smile beside you. "Let's go."

"Sure, Bandit." You say in your regular voice as you turn away. Casting a head over your shoulder, you see Xtreme try to flounder his way back up to a standing position, but his flailing only tears down the curtains around him. You give a little wave as nurses and orderlies squeeze past you to detain Xtreme.

"See you soon, X." You say before leaving.

Bandit glances back at you. "That was pretty good, Lieutenant. Now that you're up an at'em, where to next?"

"Quick question first," You ask. "How long was I out?"

"Oh, through the night." He waves his hand vaguely. "These doctors, they know how to fix us up real quick. Your armor is being repaired somewhere and should be returned to your quarters by tonight, if you're worried."

The two of you leave the building and enter the inner courtyard. Looks like you were in the central castle.

Bandit says, "Alright mate, where would you like to continue this tour?"

So guys, ideas for our armor design, we can put a giant target on our chest, a mark on our leg, because what are the odds we'd get shot twice in the same place? Or several other options.

A knot of concern forms in your gut. When you were returning to base with Kenobi's forces, AT-TE 7330 was barely able to keep pace with the walking troopers. Immediately before the General ordered you to follow him to your debriefing, the rear legs of the walker malfunctioned and collapsed under the stress of the slight incline leading up to Shelter Base. You were forced to leave your walker in its severely damaged condition.

You have been away from the AT-TE for too long. You turn to Bandit and say with a slight rasp, "Take me to AT-TE 7330. I would like to see the motor pool as well."

Bandit nods. "Understood mate, I know how important those tanks can be to you commanders. 'Ere, this way." He leads you towards one of the durasteel hangers. As you pass the threshold of the entrance, before you unfolds an appalling sight.

AT-TE 7330 is sitting near the right wall with its back half removed, standing only on its forward 4 legs. Across its previously white surface you see hundreds of small blaster burns intermingling with small dents and damaged hull plates. The pristine AT-TE you entered just a couple days ago now looks like a pile of scrap waiting to be torn apart by raiders.

Nausea clings to your throat as you survey the rest of the hanger. Dozens of vehicles, Juggernauts, TX-130s, AT-TEs, even a few Infantry Support Platforms and a smattering of AT-RTs, all lay in various stages varying from minor damage to blasted open hulls on wheels, legs, or repulsors.

The entire armored detachment of your Battalion, devastated.

"Hey, Twitch!" Major Bandit calls out beside you, waving. You do not spot Twitch until he is almost 2 meters in front of the both of you, causing you to jolt back in surprise. His camo blends in nearly perfectly with the backdrop of the hanger.

"What are you here for, Major?" Twitch's normally derisive tone now has a slightly playful edge.

"Oh, you know," Bandit looks up into the air while waving vaguely about. "Searching the wilds for baseless conspiracies to rant about, much like you." Bandit gives a half bow. "My master."

Twitch let's out a sharp and brief chuckle. "Joke all you want Bandit, you'll see one day." He gives out a huff with a shake of his head before turning to you, his tone now cold. "Shiny, anything I can help you with? Or are you here just to waste my time?"

Bandit stands back upright and turns to you with a lopsided grin. "Ah, don't let Twitch's tone get to ya, Lieutenant." He points a thumb over at the Twitch and covers the side of his mouth. "'E's just playing distant, he'll warm up to you in time." Bandit whispers loudly.

"I will be glad when the Separatist spies get to you Major." Twitch states coldly. Bandit responds with a shrug.

"Twitch," You begin. The whole conversation you had been half watching the non-clone workers moving back and forth, but you were not able to spot the strikingly red hair you were looking for. "Have you seen Carla? She was quite shaken up from the previous battle, and I wanted to ensure she was fit for combat in the future."

"Oh, the local girl?" Twitch gives a small shrug. "She took one of the speeders the next hanger over and took off early this morning. I wouldn't worry about her Shiny, if the Seppie's get to her, I have plenty of other workers."

Indignation wells within you, though before you are able to formulate a response Twitch turns back towards AT-TE 7330. "If you would like to, I don't know, think about our future survival in this mess of a war, I'd suggest you take a look at what we can do to improve that scrap heap of a walker over there. It'd be a shame to tear out that improved turret and smack it on some brand new beetle."

Twitch pauses for a moment. "I was growing to like that deathtrap. Much better than the last two, I'd say."

"Twitch, what can you do to improve the AT-TE?" You ask. No need to be angry with him, you simply need to maintain composure. Stay professional.

You can hear the smile in his voice. "Good to hear you have good sense." He waves to you and begins walking towards where AT-TE 7330 is standing.

"I have another question," You and Bandit follow behind him. "You said something about the 'last two?' What did you mean by that?"

"You aren't the first Rookie we had to babysit, Shiny." Twitch says. "And at the pace you're going, likely not the last." He begins to grumble to himself, and all you can hear is something about getting killed.

Bandit rests a hand on your shoulder, and when you look his way he is giving you a supportive smile. Right, Twitch will come around in time, you suppose. You sate your desire to reprimand him, for now.

As the three of you reach the AT-TE, Twitch begins to speak again. "I'm sure you can see that the walker suffered severe damage, and it would be our coffin if it faced anything more deadly than a stiff breeze. The mass driver you ordered installed is fine, but it won't be shooting any droids any time soon."

While you open your mouth to ask why, Twitch cuts you off. "Due to the damage it suffered when the Depot fell onto it, you can see we had to remove the irreparable section of the hull. As we speak, my workers are getting together what they need to repair the hull to its previous condition."

Twitch taps a finger on his thigh before continuing on his curt report. "Power generator was slightly damaged from the crushing and is being repaired, the laser turrets are being replaced and repaired as well. In a couple of days, the AT-TE will be able to march us to our probable deaths once again."

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44588609
He sighs before turning back to face you. "If there is anything you would like upgraded, feel free to inform me. Because we have to rebuild the entire hull, hell, if you want me to slap on extra guns, just tell me what you want."

He points over at the wreckage deeper in the Hanger. "We have Juggernauts, AT-TEs, ISPs, Saber tanks, even an anti-air tank if you want. Though, we would have to modify the hull to do so, and the power supply can't handle much more. Any Republic weapon or vehicle you want to take from, I have access to."

Twitch shrugs. "Right now, I don't think any of us have a preference for upgrades to the AT-TE, Shiny, so the choice is entirely yours. Probably. Unless a Commando droid comes out and.." Twitch trails off as he stares out behind you.

>> Rear Laser Cannons can hold 1 Medium Attachment, 2 Small Attachments, 4 Tiny Attachments

> Have fun discussing what you want.
>>
>>44588462
You have to find Crusader first.

This is a rather important vote, especially concerning modifications if you choose to get them. Do not worry, attachments filling up modifications slots are replaceable if you so desire/if they are damaged, and they can also be changed out between missions.

Let the customization begin, voting will be open for awhile. I shall answer any questions you have.
>>
>>44588633
Do the sabers have the beam turrets? If so, can the rear turrets be replaced with them?
>>
>>44588711
They have an ion laser, but that thing is designed to be open air.

We should probably upgrade the legs to give us some additional manouverability, and prevent them from getting shot out from under us again, it'd also allow us to fix up the hull again.
>>
>>44588711
The heavy laser cannons from the TX-130 could be modified to replace the rear turrets, though at the expense of the rear turrets being ball turrets. They would only be able to angle on the vertical plane, not the horizontal plane.

>>44588755
Another important aspect of the Saber tank are its Concussion Missile/Thermal Detonator launchers. To attach them would require the use of a Medium Modification Slot.

Adding the open air Ion Lasers is a possibility, though it would reduce the defensiveness of the hull.

Also, the Pink are doors, for anyone curious.
>>
>>44588842
Can we have them install a screen door and a sunsetter, so we can at least look like we're cruising in style?
>>
>>44588667
Can we install a pair of fuzzy dice in the cockpit area, or a bobblehead of a twi'lek dancer? No vehicle is complete without these things.
>>
>>44588863
>>44588888
I see you have only the most essential ideas in mind.

Of course, the Driver would have to be the one who decides on the fuzzy die. You wouldn't want to infringe on tradition, do you?

Sorry for the open endedness of the vote. It's really about what you all want to trick out your AT-TE with.
>>
>>44588755
I was thinking upgrade the armor- hard as a rock, hits like a rock.
>>
>>44588934
Hypothetically if we did stupidly get a screen door installed on a tank, how hard would you make it bite us in the ass?
>>
>>44588948
And moves like a rock, which is the trade off, and the separatists like to focus fire.
>>
>>44588633
Are there any smoke launchers in the Republic inventory? I believe that alot of us discussed having those attached a few threads back.
>>
>>44588953
Enemy infantry? Constant boarding parties. Enemy tanks? They know exactly where to aim their shells. You would move a little faster, which is the only trade off. You would do better if you just straight up removed the doors and let the infantry inside shoot out, and that still would not likely be the best decision.

>>44589003
Smoke launchers are an option. You can have IR Smoke, regular smoke, colored smoke for marking targets, basically any use of smoke you can imagine. It could be used to cover the walker, or be shot outwards to cover a particular area.

Their range would not be too great, but they could be useful.
>>
>>44589070
But if we have a screen door then we can install windows, a patio, and some nice furniture and actually up the property value of our tank a little bit. Think about it!

Voting for chrome finish and spinners, as well as a sick ass speaker system.
>>
>>44589070
Definitely IR smoke, both to confuse targeting systems and to cover a retreat.
>>

So to facilitate voting:

From the list of Upgrades, you are able to choose 2 at this point in time.

If you would like, I can keep this as a running vote throughout the thread, so you all can discuss as I write the story along, we can let more people state their thoughts, etc.

Armor and Power Supply, the power supply needs to be upgraded anyways to facilitate later upgrades
>>
So, to ensure we don't end up sitting here with nothing happening, for votes:

Upgrade the Hull and Power Supply to Tier 2, ask about implementing smoke launchers. Agreeable?

Concerning the launchers, where would you like for them to be placed? They would be considered a Tiny Attachment for each individual launcher, and each would have its own ammo supply.

Feel free to discuss future modifications. And feel free to suggest ways to improve this process.

After that, what would you all like to do?

>>
"Twitch," You are not seething at his attitude, you are being professional. You ignore Bandit's sidelong glance. "Do what you can to improve the armor and the power supply of the walker. Also, find some smoke launchers for the hull, we may need it for future missions."

Twitch shrugs. "Whatever you say sir, I'll get my workers on it."

"Do you know where Crusader has gone?"

Twitch freezes for a moment. "He, attended to Big last night." He pauses. "I haven't seen the brute, but he's somewhere in the castle. Oh, and word of advice rookie." Twitch points at you. "Be careful with him. You do not want to piss him off, not right now."

Twitch shakes his head, turning and walking towards the AT-TE. "I've work to do, try to not get yourself killed."

As he walks out of earshot, Bandit says, "That's the closest to concern I've ever seen Twitch express. Good on you, Lieutenant. Let's go, I assume you want to hear me guide you through the history of this land?"

"I would enjoy hearing that, Major."

You leave the hanger and reenter the castle. The interior walls are designed with intricate patterns in marble walls, lined with old wooden furniture and desks that look to be half eaten by some sort of local insect. Other than that the hallway is sparse, and you note that some of the walls are scorched with burn and blaster marks that look decades old.

After exiting the hallway, you enter a room with an expansive ceiling, with 3 other hallways branching out from it in all directions. Along the sides of the room are the burnt husks of raised wooden benches, charred boards half collapsed on itself.

Along the ceiling are a series of curved rectangular openings, and in the corner of one is the broken fragment of what once was an expansive window. The glass is richly colored and shows the corner of what to you seems to be an intricate design.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44591172
In the center of the room sits a chair with an extremely tall back, easily roughly as tall as your AT-TE, and it looks as if it was once plated in something that has all been removed, leaving a rusted skeletal frame. A dull glint catches your eye in the light, and you spot what looks to be gold.

"This," Bandit has fallen back into his guide's voice, "Is the hallowed halls of the Carlyng dynasty, where the family of monarchs fought for generations for control over this planet. Here, among these pews," Bandit points to the burnt wooden husks. "Here is where democracy first took form on this world. This castle once was of central importance to the ancient Jabiimi nobles, highly defensible on its steep hill."

Bandit approaches the scavenged chair. "This throne is where royalty once sat, a line of kings that extend back beyond when the Mandalorians were combatting the Old Republic. Though, much has changed in that time, and the Carlyngs, for all their influence, were not always all powerful."

He traces his gloved hand along one of the armrests of the throne. "The Carlyngs have always been an enigma to the records, for they kept the identity of their dynasty a secret. All that is known now is that a line of masked Warrior-Kings fought with the other self-proclaimed royalty to take power on this world, and the Carlyngs were eventually successful." Bandit looks back towards you, his expression somber.

"All the Carlyngs were nameless, mysteries in every way but action. Similar to you, Lieutenant." Bandit's eyes harden slightly as they bore into you.

You blink. "What do you mean, Major?"

"I simply found it odd that you don't have a name to refer to yourself with, mate. I remember the training on Kamino, how brothers in squadrons were trained from youth to fight together, how we all gave each other nicknames, but here you are without one. I would like to know why."

You shake your head. You must have zoned out for a moment, because Bandit is looking at you intently. What were you thinking about? Ah yes, it must have been about the Kings the Major was speaking about. You heard stories of them, especially in the old smuggler holovids you watched on Kamino. They were always cruel and stupid men, bent of destroying democracy for their personal gain. Ha! To think, that one man would have the power to overthrow the Republic?

The very thought makes you chuckle to yourself while shaking your head.

Bandit tips his head to the side. "Is something the matter, mate?"

"No, no Major, I was just remembering something from back in training. Now, we were talking about the Kings of this planet, were we not?"

Bandit sways slightly while grimacing. Odd, he must not like the thought of the kings here, which makes sense. You are all soldiers of the Republic, after all.

"Lieutenant, are you alright?" Bandit asks.

What a curious thing to ask. "Well, my leg is still a little sore, but other than that nothing's the matter. I wanted to thank you for carrying me to that medical sation Bandit, I am not sure what happened to me. Must have been exhaustion from the battle."

Bandit just looks at you blankly for a moment.

The moment extends to a pause.

Soon, nearly 30 seconds have passed. Is the Major okay?

Eventually, he slowly nods. "Alright mate, you're welcome."

Good to hear!

"Lost in thought for a minute there, sir?" You smile at Bandit. It feels good to see him flustered, though you are not sure why he is.

The Major give you a smile back while rubbing the back of his head. "Oh, I think so Lieutenant. So, uhm, mate, do you want to go look for Crusader?"

"No, I would like to hear more about the Carlyngs. So you say they were the ones in charge of this planet? How did that happen?"

"Oh." Bandit waves vaguely about. "Long ago, after many civil wars, the people of Jabiim were split between two rulers. Both of these rulers were Carlyngs, though, so, uhm, the planet knew a long period of peace." Bandit sits on the arm rest, resting both his hands onto it as well.

"For decades it looked like the planet had finally reached an equilibrium, I suppose. The factionalism that plagued the planet had been rid from the social consciousness by these two rulers, and some records claim that this moment was the height of the Carlyngs' power. Though I guess they didn't see it that way at the time."

Bandit sighs and begins to run his fingers through his beard. "One brother grew jealous of the other, or perhaps both did, nobody knows. What happened was that one brother sent assassins to kill the other on the same day that assassins were sent to kill him by the man he intended to kill. Both survived the first attempt, and it provoked yet another civil war."

"Eventually, the older brother was defeated by the younger, and for the rest of his life Jabiim was ruled by a single Carlyng. His son, though, well he was not as strong willed as his father." Bandit brings the hand stroking his beard back down to his lap.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44592891
"Within the new Carlyngs' lifetime, the absolute power of his royal dynasty was placed within the limitations of democracy. The centralized infrastructure of the younger Carlyngs brother was taken over by a Senate, and within a few more generations, the power of the nobility had faded rapidly."

Bandit stands back up, stretching his back. With a grunt he says, "And then Jabiim joined the Republic and, uh, well, the Carlyngs were no more. I think that's enough of a history lesson mate, let's go find your man, eh?"

"Thank you for taking the time to tell me that, Bandit." You say. In response he waves you off and begins walking down one of the hallways.

"Here, mate, follow me." The Major says. "I think I know where he may be."

As you follow him down abandoned hallways and up web filled staircases, Bandit asks, "So Lieutenant, it's been awhile since I've been back home. How was your training?"

"Without the training that was given to me, I likely would have been defeated in the previous battle. It was good that simms trained me well." You say, pride welling up in your chest. You spent hours in those simms, and you are glad that you were able to effectively fight.

Bandit chuckles. "That's good to hear and all mate." The two of you finish ascending the set of stairs the two of you were walking up. You enter a hallway leading to a single door. While down below was damaged and worn by the years, this area looks untouched. Along the left wall you see a picture unlike what you have seen on screens and datapads. The two of you stop to examine it.

The picture is of a view similar to one that you saw from Kenobi's command center, one of the area towards the east with all the mining equipment. While now the structures and vehicles are decrepit and barely holding together, in this picture you see them in their prime. Hundreds of people, miniscule dots of brown and grey with the occasional bright blue, look to be hard at work transporting large crates to and from the mine entrance, a yawning chasm that take up the majority of the hillside it rests in.

"Ah mate, this here is what is called a "painting."" Bandit explains.

"A painting?" You respond, lightly tracing your fingers along the picture before jolting your hand back in surprise. The picture is not smooth, it's bumpy and filled with swirls.

You notice Bandit stroking the, painting as well. "Yes, these were created by hand, with concotions created from local plant life. An old artform, you see, but one still comon across the galaxy."

"I have never seen anything like this, Bandit."

"Aye, the Kaminoans were always a utilitarian race, weren't they? Everything so crisp and exact, nothing like this creation 'ere. You know Lieutenant, I sometimes wonder what it all means."

> [Cont.]
>>44594273
Don't you worry.
>>
>>44594421
You tear your eyes away from the painting to look at the Major. He is looking into the bright blue sky in the painting, a color much too clear to resemble the muddy grey blue you have always seen the sky to be. "What do you mean, Bandit?"

Bandit stands silent for a long moment.

"Nothing, Lieutenant. I'm just thinking. 'Ere, let's find Crusader."

He walks to the door and opens it, you close behind. As the heavy wood is moved, you hear a voice, a voice so devoid of emotion yet filled with sorrow that it halted your next step into the room.

"-nd that was when the Commander and I were one with the essence of Mandalore together. He gave the command and I followed it at once, the will of our ancestors guiding us to glory. I took my blade, the one you saved me with all those planets ago, I allowed the power granted unto me to guide my slash."

Bandit steps to the side, allowing you to see the room. The first color that slammed into your retinas was pink, and everywhere you looked were differing shades that ranged from a pure white to a deep purple. Sprinkled around the room were dozens of small, fluffy things that looked like animals, but did not look to be alive. They sat on shelves and along the floor, all facing the bed in the center.

This bed was massive, at least twice as large as the pod you used to sleep in on Kamino, and it had four wooden posts extending to the ceiling. A voluptuous bright pink series of veils and curtains cover the area between and around the posts, creating an enclosed area on the bed itself.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44594458
To the right of it, sitting in a tiny chair, is Crusader. He sits still in his armor with his elbows on his knees leaned over towards the bed. Along his chest you see a new pattern painted over the bars of color. It is varying colors of red, all smattered across the armor to look as if it was still fresh blood running down the armor. The insides of his forearms was adorned with this pattern as well, melding in perfectly yet still standing out vibrantly from the swirling patterns already there.

Through the shadow of the veils, you are able to see the vague shape of a clone in armor. A clone that looks far too large to be a regular clone.

Crusader continues after a long pause.

"I was able to purge the Separatist traitor, my brother. I have the weapon to prove it." You did not notice the lightsaber in his hand until Crusader weakly raised it up towards Big. "I have fought the Jedi as our ancestors had, and like them I have won, but why then am I not rejoicing in my victory, celebrating with my brothers after a battle long fought?"

His tone has become brittle towards the end, and Crusader is forced to give a shaky breath.

"You have come, my Commander." Crusader no longer rumbles as he had before, instead he speaks in a small, quiet voice that barely carries to you. "I am glad, but at the same time I am not. I am not the warrior you need me to be in this moment. My strength is not as it was during battle. Despite our successes, I have failed."

Bandit gives a subtle glance towards you that you catch.

"You may stay if you with, Commander." Crusader continues. "I am only telling stories to Big, so that he may sleep for eternity with good dreams to carry him on his way. My only regret it that I will no longe-" Crusader's voice breaks. "That, I will no longer be able to..." He breaths in another shaky breath. "Be able to tell Big new stories. To share with my brother just one more time tales of our fight with the Republic."

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44594486
Crusader reaches out slowly before resting his hand on Big's hand. "I regret no longer being able to fight with you at my side, and to see you smile. Brother." Crusader's shoulders begin to shake as his helmeted head falls forward. His entire body is shuddering as he goes silent.

Silence fills the space for a long moment.

Bandit steps back out of the room. You look at him, and he simply gives you a solemn nod. It looks as if the choice is yours.

(give him some silence for a moment) I regret not knowing him better brother. I have only been here a scant few days, only off of Kamino for a few days. Already my brothers have shown me much of life in ways that I could never imagine. Duty, honor, ... sacrifice. That is what Big showed me.

The failure is mine Crusader. His and all other deaths that happened under my command rest on my shoulders. That is my duty. Yours is to remember Crusader. You remember these stories. You remember Big in ways I could not. Remember that he died doing honor to the glory of Mandalore. Keep these stories sacred, I would like to hear them when we have the chance to sit and remember again.

Servicemember here. Either this or just being there without saying nothing would probably be the best options. Asking to take away the lightsaber's gonna make him think that you don't have faith in him if he isn't feeling homicidal/suicidal, and it'll trigger him if he is.
>>
>>44595381
Adding onto that, any words you say are gonna be empty. Let him make the first move.

Everybody deals with it in their own way. There is no real way of knowing beforehand. This situation for me is less us knowing how to help Crusader and more establishing us and how we deal with it.
>>
You put a hand on the edge of the thick wooden door and nod to Bandit before closing it. After surveying the room once more, you spot no other chairs to sit in, so you remain standing.

A long moment passes in silence between the two of you. A muddle of emotions rolls through you, guilt being a prominent one. You feel guilty that Big died under your command, guilty that you were unable to get to know him better, guilty that you were helpless to stop the tank commander from killing him.

You instructors drilled it into you time and time again that death can and will happen on the battlefield, likely as a direct or indirect result of your orders. The reality of that advice never sunk in, especially when all the comrades you lost were projections in the simms. Now it sinks in, that the deaths of not only Big or Kep were on your hands, but so were the deaths of the rest of the battalion during the final Separatist assault.

And so, too, shall all future deaths of your men be your fault, the fruits of your failure.

You find yourself to be shaking with both hands clenched into fists, a rage mixed with despair roaring through your body. You blame the Separatists, yourself, the Jedi, this whole war for the deaths that your command resulted in. You do not even know how many lives were lost in that final attack, and that knowledge of your ignorance fills you with shame.

You take a slow breath. Remember CT-42/458, relax. Stay professional. You have a subordinate in need of your assistence. Two, now that you think of it, but you will find Carla later.

Before the silence can drag on, you quietly say, "I, too, have regrets Crusader. I regret not knowing him better, brother." Crusader does not respond, but you are saying this as much for yourself as you are for him.

"I have only been here a scant few days, having only left Kamino a day before I met you all, and in these few days you, my brothers, have already shown me much of life as a soldier of the Republic in ways that I could have never imagined. You have taught me what it means to have honor, to follow through with our duty, and," You grow silent.

"And, you have shown me what sacrifice was. That is what Big has shown me in his heroic actions, and while you may blame yourself Crusader, know this." You raise your fist up before you in a sign of determination. "The failure is mine, Crusader. His, and all other deaths under my command rest, and will forever rest, on my shoulders. I see it now, that is my duty."

You unclench your hands and allow them to fall to your sides. You approach Crusader and kneel next to him, looking directly at the side of his viewports. "Yours is not only to fight and purge the enemy in honor of the glory of the Republic, of Mandalore, it is to remember, my brother." You pland a firm hand on his arm. "You remember Big in ways I can never hope to accomplish, and I hope that you continue to remember and tell the stories of our time in this war together."

"Crusader," Your voice is quiet. "Keep these stories sacred. I would like to hear them, both the old and the new, once we have the chance to sit and remember them again."

Again silence fills the air between you. You watch as the fatigue of defeat and despair flows out of Crusader's body, instead refilled with the righteous confidence you have known him to have since you first talked with him. His back slowly straightens from his bent over posture, and he turns his head to face you.

"I shall gladly follow your orders, my Commander." He says, glowing with pride.

You stand beside your crew member. Looking to Big, you see his armor covered in dried blood, the three fractured holes centered in his helmet. Here, a fallen brother, one that you intend to avenge a thousand times over.

"I shall bury him in the way he wanted, Lieutenant." Crusader stands up next to you. "Thank you for coming to speak with me. You are truly one with Mandalore. Perhaps one day I shall talk with you of my brief time there."

"I would like that, Crusader." You say as he lifts up Big's body in his arms. The two of you walk to the door, you opening it for Crusader. Bandit stands leaning up against the wall, and he looks over to Crusader before speaking.

"I can get you a transport with some of my boys driving if you would like, mate."

"Thank you Major, I would be honored to accept you assistance." Crusader rumbles his normally jovial tone. Bandit nods and presses a few buttons on his wrist mounted communicator.

The three of you walk down the stairs and eventually out of the Castle in silence, exiting the large double doors leading directly into the throne room. As you walk towards the hanger, a trio of speeders, one with an additional cockpit, fly over.

The scout piloting the double seated speeder hops out in front of the waiting Crusader, then assists him in getting the body into the extra seat.

"I shall see you soon, Commander." Crusader says while climbing onto the speeder himself.

While I'm sure Kenobi cares about us, I'm also fairly certain he won't put his life on the line to save specifically us.
Let the man keep his Lightsaber. It might be useful later on, whereas Kenobi would confiscate the saber to bring it to the Jedi council.

Leave the decision up to Crusader, mention that showing it to him will probably result in Kenobi taking it, but also prompting an investigation into Fallen Jedi.

"Crusader," You say as he activates his speeder bike and makes it rise into the air. "One more thing before you go."

"Ah yes, Commander, I am sure you are busy. What else do you require?" Crusader says. Bandit glances at you, raising an eyebrow.

"About the prize you received from the Jedi, Kenobi did not believe me in my report about it. If you would like to after your return, I was considering bringing it to the General for examination and potential future investigation."

Crusader looks out in front of him for a moment. While looking away from you, he responds. "I shall think on it, Commander. For now, allow me to bury my brother." His speeder shoots off towards the outer exit.

"Bandit," You say while walking over to one of the other speeders. "I have another crew member to find, would you like to join me?"

"Carla, right?" Bandit says while waving off the scout on the other speeder, climbing on the same time as you. "Someone has to watch your back mate, and I guess it has to be me." He gives you a lopsided grin.

"Good to hear." You activate the simple scanner on your speeder, searching out for friendly vehicles. Immediately it shows your own speeder, Bandit's beside you, Crusader's heading off to the west, those stored in the second hanger.

There. You pinpoint a speeder to your south, on top of the mine to the south east. "Follow me Major." You activate your speeder and fly out the entrance of Shelter Base. The wind whips through your hair, and although you have never flown a speeder outside of the simms, let alone without your helmet, you have no problems reaching your destination.

The hillside is entirely made of mud, but as you reach the crest you spot a Republic speeder sitting on a small patch of grass. As you grow closer, you see the now familiar smock of red hair sprayed out on the grass.

You and Bandit decelerate and come to a stop beside Carla. As you dismount, Bandit says, "Lieutenant, I will maintain the perimeter. You should attend to you.. Crew."

He puts on his helmet - did he really drive the speeder with one hand? - and drives down the hill, patrolling and visually scanning. You need to thank him later.

You approach Carla, who is laying on her back and staring up. With a glace, you see the clear, murky grey sky. Noticing the tear stains on her dirty cheeks, you stand beside her.

Let's look up at that sky.

Writing.
>>
You remember this spot in the painting. It was covered in a myriad of different colors, most prominently reds with a mix of yellows and purples. Plants of some kind, you assume.

Her hair on the deep green grass reminds you of those colerful plants. A mild awe causes you to stand and hesitate, watching as her sharp features react to the shifting clouds above. Sharp features nothing like your and your brother's rough and broad facial structure.

You wonder what she is thinking about.

Sitting down next to her on the surprisingly dry patch of grass, you join her in staring up into the sky. Unlike the bright blue from the painting, the sky is filled with dirty clouds that threaten an incoming rainstorm, just like on Kamino. You cannot help but be reminded of home, the only thing different is that the ground is not shifting slightly underneath you.

Well, that and the fact that there are actual droids shooting actual blaster bolts at you, though that was to be expected. You trained since birth for that. You realize though, Carla here has not been trained like you have been trained. You remember her exciteable nature, her unorthodox behavior, and yet she still followed orders to the best of her ability. It simply was that she surpassed her ability when Crusader neutralized the fallen Jedi. He had similar features to Carla, now that you think about it. Same piercing green eyes.

Time passes between you two. You can hear Bandit's speeder in the distance, and the sounds of a functional Republic base further behind you. Everything in this moment brings to you a feeling of peace, as if you would be content to sit here forever, watching the sky beside a cu-

"What do you want, clone." Carla states, venom curling her words. The intensity causes you to flinch back slightly on instinct. Looking down at her, you see the rage in her green eyes, anger that saps your confidence and weakens your resolve.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44597692
"I am sorry, what?" You respond on instinct. She turns her head away from you before crossing her arms.

"I am busy here, Republic."

A tense silence passes between you two.

"Busy doing what, Carla-"

As you try to ask, she whips her head back to glare at you while cutting you off. "How do you know my name, trooper? If you do not have a reason for invading my space, I will be forced to defend myself."

You see a small red beam shoot out of the device in her hand. The same red beam that you saw sawing through the metal pole in your leg, the one that likely saved your life.

You can barely do anything more than stare at her, completely unsure of what to say.

Your armor is currently being repaired.

Crusader would have been extremely worried if he knew you were going out into the field without your armor. He likely would have insisted on coming with you, covered you at all times, and basically do everything in his power to keep you safe.

Alright, so no direct identification because Carla likely would not remember your number, say something short like "Thanks for saving my life from the deadly metal pole from the heavens," and then go from there. Agreeable?

I'm thinking the next post will be the last for tonight, but there will be another one tomorrow, so no worries.

Doesn't matter anyway clone. You have the same face as everyone else.
>>
>>44597908
You realize there are literally millions of other people in the galaxy with your face, several thousand of them on this planet alone, right?
>>
As you stare into Carla's harsh gaze, a realization overcomes you.

She does not know who you are.

She knows that you are a soldier of the Republic, a clone, but she does not know that you are Lieutenant CT-42/458, that you were her commander when she was piloting the AT-TE.

All she sees is your face, which is identical to every one of your brothers. All she hears is your voice, indistinguishable from the rest. If you were wearing your armor, you have no doubt that she would know who you were in a heartbeat.

If she knew who you were, she would not be threatening to kill you right now. While she is not a clone, the two of you fought together. You stood against the unending hordes with her by your side and, thanks to her help, you came out on top. While she was upset about the death of the traitorous Jedi, you talked to her about it, promised you would speak with her afterwards.

Well, now is afterwards, but she does not seem to be in the most talkative mood. Also, to be honest, you are feeling offended at her not knowing who you were. She cleaned the blood from your wounds, dammit.

Relax. Stay professional.

You stand, brushing off the back of your pant legs. "I am sorry for intruding Carla. I just wanted to thank you for saving my life, for slicing that metal pole out of my leg."

Watching her expressions is incredibly interesting, it turns from cold anger into confusion, then slowly forming into a dawn of recognition. At that point she bolts up, standing quickly while deeply embarrassed. You note that her cheeks have become as red as her hair.

> [Cont.]

>>44598745
"Lieutenant! Oh I'm so sorry I didn't mean to threaten you I just thought you were someone else I was waiting for you to talk to me then I heard you were in the hospital hurt and I didn't know what to d-" Her rapid speech is cut off as Bandit's speeder flies up towards you, performing a tight turn around you before flying back downhill, firing the speeder's blasters.

You immediately run to your speeder and hop on. While you activate your comms, you note that Carla is still standing where she was, staring at you confused.

"Get on your speeder Carla, Bandit is engaged with the enemy!" You order. She responds with a surprised jump and a quick nod before bounding over to her speeder. As your speeder lifts itself into the air, Bandit's professional tone comes through the comms.

"We have a platoon of Nationalists approaching our position." You watch as Bandit's speeder weaves amongst the mining equipment at the bottom of the hill, dodging blaster shots while firing back with his own. He is using his speed to his advantage, performing hit and run attacks on the shoddily dressed humans.

You glance back over to Carla, who is now getting her speeder into the air as well.

"All right, we need to move to assist Bandit, we have rebel forces to our sout-"

A half dozen rockets fire out from the mining vehicles, half lancing out towards your position while the other three are directed at Bandit.

"Evasive maneuvers!" You are already slamming down on the speeder's accelerator and swerving the speeder back and forth. As blaster fire begins to be directed your way, you have found yourself well and truly engaged with the enemy.

Other than the aesthetic differences, it has higher radiation protection, increased oxygen supply, increased maneuverability, all without losing out on protection. It's a new design for tank crew members, one that should allow for any tank to be used in any field of battle.

The hoses and where they connect also work as an improved gasmask, keeping out the results of airborne chemical warfare.

The viewports are about as advanced as you would find in an ARC trooper's gear, but that is mainly because, as the commander, CT-42/458 will need to have good eyes. That special feature is for tank commanders only that have that armor.

Basically think of it as an improvement on the Mark I armor in every way that has been tailored for tank combat, though will still do good work in protecting you on the ground.

And some other stuff. But that would be telling.

The wind and the scattered droplets of rain are slamming into your body, causing you to squint as you fly down the hill on your BARC speeder. Missiles rocket over to your and Carla's previous position, slamming into the grass and mud with such intensity that you feel bits of dirt splatter into the back of your jumpsuit.

In the distance, you hear the other three missiles explode harmlessly into mining equipment and the mud.

The small shockwave struck your speeders as well, to which you make sure to use the energy of the blast to further your speeder's momentum. After drifing through the air for a moment, dodging a renewed wave of blasterfire in the process, you have finally reached the bottom of the hill and are using the mining vehicles for cover.

Bandit shoots out ahead of you between a fallen crane and a rusted hunk of a bulldozer, firing his pistol behind him as blasterfire follows him out. He turns sharply as you meet up at his position, gunning it around the bulldozer both to join a small triangle formation with you as well as getting out of the line of fire.

As you fly between the abandoned vehicles around the Nationalists, you realize that you have no way to contact Carla or Bandit while moving at combat speed. You could slow down to discuss a plan, but the blasterfire streaming out from the close together enemies is deterring you from doing tha-

While rounding the corner around a line of forklifts, a man is kneeling in the center of the path with a rocket trained on the three of you, 100 meters away. Immediately you pull away to the left, moving towards an overturned truck as the missile lances out to the middle of your formation.

The rocket screams past your head, your line of sight with the rocket trooper is lost as you ass behind the truck-

The explosion blasts out far too close behind you, causing you to swerve-

Another speeder shoots out past you-

- You struggle with your controls, wildly turning between and over rusted vehicles and other obstacles-

- Blaster fire to your right, you slam down on the accelerator-

- Turn turn turn! Under the arm of that digger!

You shoot back out into the open ground, wobbling to and fro for a moment before regaining control.

You turn back parallel to the mining yard and survey the area. You spot a speeder driving directly into the enemy lines, all blaster cannons firing. A handful of Nationalists drop as the BARC slams through their impromtu firing lines. You get glimpses of armor through the gaps of the various vehicles. Bandit, taking the fight to them.

He is doing good work, but along he will eventually get outflanked.

As you circle around the enemy, which you note to all be grouped together facing outwards in and around a series of 5 massive mining vehicles near the center of the abandoned lot, you struggle to spot Carla-

There, another BARC speeder whips around into view, holds position facing a couple enemy rocket troopers near the eastern edge of the group, and fires an extended burst into the soldiers. Both are cut down, as well as a couple extra Nationalists around them, though the forces all turn to direct their fire at Carla. As the blaster shots lance around her, only then does she turn away and push the BARC to top speed in retreat.

Moments later, Bandit again charges into the Nationalists from a different angle, performing a lightning quick attack that disorients the defenders. They have successfully boxed them in.

Despite your trooper's efforts, you watch as the returning blaster fire responds quicker to Bandit's charge, and are flying ever closer to his speeder. As Carla rounds around from yet another angle, she is only able to pick off a single trooper before the return fire forces her to retreat again.

Up high in one of the few standing cranes near their position, you are able to spot a single soldier, though you cannot see what he is doing up there.

The situation is untenable as it is, but if you pull back the enemy may have time to regroup and strengthen their defenses. Right now they are slowly getting organized, but with enough pressure you can keep them on their toes.

You can send Carla and Bandit orders if you hold position in cover, though you have to work fast. You do not know how many forces remain, and you only have a general idea of their positions. You would have to get in closer to spot them accurately.

Alright, so the votes:

4 for focusing fire on the Nationalist up high,
3 for pulling back to the base to get reinforcements.

Would you like to attempt the single run, then retreat to come back with more forces?

Regardless, I need 3d10, 3 times please.

The Nationalist up high, he is likely a spotter communicating your movements for the defense. Right now you need to take him out to give Bandit and Carla a chance.

To ensure that chance is not wasted, you will need to fall back to Shelter Base to bring back reinforcements.

While Bandit swoops down onto the enemy over the overturned crane, you let up on the throttle and turn into the tight area between two excavaters. You creep up through the rusted maze, keeping line of sight with the enemy forces as obscured as possible. You hear the scream of the BARC's engines and the blasts from its light laser cannons, soon joined in with another pair of cannons.

You peak past the edge of the excavaters, and you spot the soldier up high. He is holding something up to his eyes. Just like you thought, a spotter.

Leading up to the crane is a flattened bulldozer with its shovel pointing up into the air towards the crane. Fortunately, it looks as if it would provide the optimum angle to land a handful of shots on the soldier.

Unfortunately, it would require that you land directly in the center of their formation on the ground.

You move out from in between the excavaters, taking a moment to line up your speeder with the approach. Silence falls over the battlefield, it sounds as if Carla and Bandit were forced to fall back, likely repositioning to attack again.

You take a deep breath. Looking up at your target, you see the glint of glass in the fading sun.

Water falls more heavily on your head, plinking off the metal of your speeder. You gun the engine, water splattering across your face as you accelerate rapidly.

You pull the speeder up over the edge of the bulldozer, leaning back and attempting to physically pull the BARC up over the shovel.

The man in the crane's supports panics, trying desperately to disentangle himself from the beams he has wrapped his limbs around.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44613975
You are already in the air, eyes locked on the Nationalist. Just before gravity takes your speeder back down to the surface, you slam down on the button to unleash the speeder's blasters.

Blue beams lance out, and as you descend, the moment before you look down to check your landing, you see the soldier crumple from a direct hit to the torso.

Below you, you see the soldiers throw their heads up to look at you, then in the next instant you are among them. You do not stop firing your cannons, instead allowing the bolts to tear through the Nationalists so that you do not have to slow down as your speeder barrels through their ranks.

Return blaster fire is scarce and extremely inaccurate as you reach the cover of a nearby mining drill. Pulling the BARC back and to the right around the structure, you see the tail end of Carla's speeder as she rounds the other side of the drill.

The blaster fire directed at you all immediately turns on Carla as she exposes herself, and just before you fly past her you see a spurt of blood spray out of her back.

As you pass behind the next vehicle, you hear the sound of her speeder getting hit soon followed by the whine of damaged engines as the speeder attempts to move.

You drift around another mining vehicle to see the battle situation, and in the moment you allow yourself you see Carla sitting bent over on her speeder, one arm holding her side, desperately accelerating through the swarm of blaster fire. One, two more shots collide with the back of her speeder, sparks and smoke billowing out from the engines.

You line of sight is interrupted by the base of a crane, though when you get eyes on once more you see Bandit's speeder rush out to cover Carla, and you see him lift up his rifle and fire-

An explosion detonates in the center of the Nationalist forces, sending bits of Separatist in all directions. Those remaining hunker down.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44614002
>>44614002
With Bandit covering her, Carla pushes her speeder to cover, and then is when you lose sight once more.

You turn away from the battlefield and fly towards the entrance of Shelter Base, moving around the hill rather than over it. You have to trust that Bandit will be able to hold the Nationalists back for a couple minutes.

After an agonizing minute of pushing the BARC past its factory max speed, you reach the heavy metal door protecting Shelter Base. The guards on the wall, having seen your speeder a good distance off, have already lowered the door.

You immediately fly for the second hanger, not letting up speed until you are bare meters outside of the door leading in. Slamming on the decelerator, you throw off a small wall of water as you slide through the air to a stop. Inside you see about a dozen scout troopers all staring at you in confusion, standing around a squadron of BARC speeders and an ISP, all colored in Bandit's urban camo.

You look back at the scouts for a moment, catching your breath before saying, "Separatist infantry forces to the South, Major Bandit is in contact. We need to reinforce them, now."

At your words, the dumbstruck scouts jump into action, putting on helmets, climbing onto speeders, activating the ISP. You are already turning back out of the hanger and flying into the increasingly heavy downpour. Lightning flashes in the sky, immediately followed by a roar of thunder.

A roar soon replaced by the that of the wind at your face and of the engines behind you, speeding out to eliminate the traitorous forces attacking you. Minutes pass as you rush back towards the vehicle graveyard, again keeping to the low ground for protection. As the battlefield opens up before you once more, the sight causes a slight note of panic to rise in your gut.

There is the burning wreckage of a speeder impacted into one of the two excavators you flew through before. Beside it is the other speeder, with a dismounted Bandit huddling behind it for cover. Dozens of red blaster bolts are flying around him, though despite the suppression Bandit consistently fires back on the Nationalist troops that are walking towards him in the open.

On top of one of the bulldozers another soldier climbs up top of the roof before unslinging a rocket launcher, taking aim at Bandit's location. With a flick of his aim, Bandit downs the rocketeer in a single shot to the chest. As the soldier falls, three more climb up to grab the launcher.

You are about to get into range, and you have a moment to command the troopers behind you with hand signals.

You slow down momentarily before engaging the Nationalist forces, raising a fist into the air. Glancing behind you, you see the arrow of BARC speeders match your speed with the ISP in the center of the formation. If you were going for an all out attack, this would be the perfect set up.

Fortunately, you have something else in mind. You motion out orders: Advance, Flank, Encircle, Advance. The speeders all fly out past you at full speed, picking different directions and maneuvering themselves to flank around the enemy forces.

The ISP begins to move up as well, though you quickly give separate orders to it: Advance, you point to Bandit's position, Covering Fire, Hold. As the ISP redirects to follow your orders, you lean down low to the profile of your speeder and push the accelerator to the maximum speed.

Rain an speed blur your vision as you descend on the Nationalist forces. You can no longer pick out the details of the enemy except for their red blasts and the momentary illuminations provided by the frequent bolts of lightning above. The sound of their gunfire and the worsening weather do well to hide your approach.

Blue bolts fire off to your right as the ISP begins to fire upon the advancing soldiers, throwing them into disarray at the sudden assault on their flank. Wild red bolts of energy fire back towards you and the ISP beyond, inaccurate shots of desperation.

The soldiers are falling back under the fire. They do not see your speeder until you are already among their ranks.

You pull back on the accelerator, pulling the speeder to the side while leaning back with such a ferocity that you can feel your inertia push you down into your seat. You cross in front of their ranks with your body horizontal to the ground, mere meters in front of their forward troops.

You open fire.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44616591
Men are cut down in droves in response to your pointblank assault. As you pass their grouping, right as the soldiers in cover began to fire, the repulsors of your speeder cancel out our sideways momentum, straighten yourself out, and allow you to fly past their lines at speed. As you fly amongst the vehicles once more, the rest of the BARC speeders move into positions around the Nationalists, cutting off their retreat.

As one, the troopers open fire, and the air around you is filled with blue.

As you leave the combat zone, you pull back on the accelerator and turn back to face the enemy, taking a moment to survey the battle.

The Nationalist soldiers are surrounded and out of position. You watch with a harsh glee as the men who were on the way to finish off Bandit and Carla are killed to a man over the next 30 seconds of concentrated fire.

The ISP has finally hovered over to Bandit's position, though you are unable to see what he is doing from your angle. You are able to spot one of the storage container doors open momentarily. He found the medical supplies, good.

The Nationalists had no grand final stand against your forces, for not a single traitorous scum was able to fire a shot in retaliation once the BARCs moved into position.

As the blaster cannons go silent, you sit as you bask in the absolute nature of your victory. Every enemy has been killed before you, and as the cheers from the scouts roar out with the crashing of thunder, you find yourself raising your voice with them.

As soon as the cheers began, they were cut short, likely from an order from Bandit. Three of the scouts drove their speeders towards the pile of Nationalist bodies and dismounted while the rest turned their attention towards the vehicle yard. You take your speeder around their lines and over to Bandit. While the ISP is moving over to the open so to provide support and directing their guns in support, you pull your speeder next to Bandit's.

> [Cont.]

>>44616612
He is bent over the back of his speeder, straightening up and turning towards you. Lying along the back end of Bandit's speeder, you see Carla covered in gauze and bacta patches covering the majority of her body. Her clothes have been completely shredded and half burnt. Shock settles in over you.

"Lieutenant," Bandit yells over the violent crashes of thunder. "I see you got the calvary! Good thing mate, cause I doubt Carla here would have lasted much longer."

"What happened to her?" You ask.

"One of the traitors got a lucky shot, sent her spiralling out of control. Thankfully she tumbled off the speeder instead of holding onto it into the machine behind you." He points to the wreckage of the now no longer burning speeder. "Problem was I wasn't able to move her in the condition she was in. Looks like I awe you another drink for saving the day again, eh mate?"

"It is good to hear I came in time." You say as relief floods through your system. A smile finds its way on your face. "Hurry, let's ge-"

Bandit holds up a hand to hush you, hand on the side of his helmet. "Contacts?!" He yells. "Everyone, pull out now!"

A scout trooper in the pile of bodies cries out indistinctly, pushing a trooper away from a body lying by itself. He pushes something into the hands of the scout he pushed away and dives onto the body-

You flinch back as they both explode. a tower of mud and dirt and smoke flings itself into the air

As the 4 BARCs on the perimeter turn about and fall back, as well as Bandit climbing on his speeder, the one that was pushed near the bodies scrambles onto his speeder and flies off.

The remaining scout takes his time running back across the bodies to his speeder, bending down to pick up objects along the way.

As Bandit begins to move and you turn the BARC around to join him, he yells, "Klepto! Get a move on!"

The scout looks back over at Bandit before double timing it to his speeder as the 4 BARCS on perimeter reach near his position.
> [Cont.]
>>
>>44616639
In the lull of thunder and lightning, you see the bright flash of multiple rockets launching out deeper in the vehicle yard. They slam into the area around the 5 BARCS, one colliding directly into Klepto right as he activated his speeder.

Your view of the BARCS are obscured as explosions tear into their ranks.

As you push your speeder to match Bandit's ludicrous speed and the ISP turns to run, you look back to see that only 2 of the BARCs escaped the attack, one badly smoking.

The remainder of your vehicles retreat out of the kill zone and look to be heading back to base.

More men have been killed under your command. You look over to Carla beside you, haphazardly strapped onto the back of Bandit's speeder unconscious.

You almost lost another member of your crew. A small coil of guilt curls around your chest. It does not leave as you return to the gates of Shelter Base.

When your forces pull into the second hanger, a team of medics with a hoverstretcher rush to Carla, unstrapping her from the speeder and gently lifting her over. One of them looks up from his inspection and looks to Bandit, saying, "Good field dressings, Major. She should recover perfectly after a couple days of rest."

Bandit nods to him as he climbs off the BARC, you following suit. "Good to hear, Diver. Please pass along updates on her condition to the Lieutenant here." He points back to you.

The medic nods, saying, "You are lucky, Lieutenant. Very lucky." He stops what he's doing to take in your appearance, swiftly switching his expression from clinical concern to a cold glare. "Trooper, why are you not wearing your armor?"

You take a step away from him, taken aback. "Uhm, what, Diver?"

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44616668
The medic takes a step towards you, accusing finger extended. "Are you trying to get yourself killed you foo-"

Bandit cuts him off with an arm held against the medic's chest. "Hey, Doc, calm down, his armor was being fix-"

"I don't care what the excuse is, Major!" Diver snaps. "If his armor was not fit for combat, the Lieutenant is not fit for combat!"

A scout steps past you extending a datapad with his arm while saying, "Major, Major! You need to read this!"

Both Bandit and the medic turn their glares on the scout, who momentarily is shaken with their combined annoyance. Bandit forcibly takes the datapad from the scout and looks down to read it. Diver looks to you, again pointing an accusing finger.

"This is not over, Lieutenant." The medic turns to the rest of his team and begins to walk out with Carla.

"Ah, bugger it all to bloody hell." Bandit snarls. He looks up to you with a stern expression. "We need to inform Kenobi of this. Now."

"What is it, Bandit?" You ask, only to be talked over by the scout beside you.

"It was important enough for Corporal Metz to sacrifice himself for me, you damned Shiny."

Major again glares at the scout and then waves him away. The trooper responds by giving him a stiff salute before walking away.

"Like he said, this is important. Confidentially important." Bandit subtly angles the datapad down, the words on the screen catching your eye as he continues to speak. "So secret mate that we ought not to speak of it for fear of who may be listening."

You read on the datapad: "Operation: Nuclear Insurgency."

these were from an amazing thread on /toy/ and I had to keep them because they look way too right not to keep

they don't even look like toys in photos

>>44617173
that's a fair point
Jinx isn't bad either

If you would like to post all of what you have, I would be more than glad to have them saved in the archive. They look fantastic so far.

It's interesting, it's all the same government, funnily enough. Just a different government style.

Why do all settings want to emulate the Roman empire so much?

I always found it weird how that worked out, how after the Clone Wars tech went to shit for no apparent reason, except for money reasons I suppose, though you would think technology would improve.

Guess that's what happens when you do prequels 20 years after the originals.

well star wars doesn't really get into the nitty-gritty of technology in the films themselves anyways and the closest we got to seeing an army-scale conflict in the original trilogy was Hoth

Imagine how well that attack would've gone before if we could do it a couple stories higher using guns big enough to make some starfreighters blush

I'd call that advancement

I'd absolutely love an AT-AT quest to transition from this one
>>
>>44617896
That depends on how this quest goes, of course. There is still a lot of time not only on this planet, but in the war.

I mean, this is CT-42/458's third day on the field, and he has already fought in two skirmishes and one major battle.

And the length of the larger battles will take about the time of the battle of Jaxx, if longer.

If you all die, I will consider doing an imperial AT-AT operator quest, or perhaps another clone trooper. People seem to like my writing, so I may as well continue onward, don't you think?
>>
>>44617982
If we do die, I'm in favor of going to another clone trooper while staying around the same characters for some continuity. The other clones you've written are pretty cool, and it'd be a shame to just throw them away because of our mistakes.

The question is should you be another AT-TE commander, or of a different type of trooper, perhaps a scout under Major Bandit?

I like what you're thinking, it just depends on how everything goes.

Oh by the way, you all did very well this thread in staying alive. Sorry if the fight was a little on the short side, but it was a minor skirmish so it makes sense.

Shame some scouts were brutally torn apart by 6 or so rockets. Shame.

>>44618073
I am well aware. But does it specify if it was the first or second attack?Yes, if you do survive and go through a couple more campaigns, you will end up back on Jabiim.

If anyone could remove the watermark or whatever from this picture, it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and for anybody that's worried: Phi will likely get some in thread time during the next installment. Who would you all like to see more of?

You could also run into Doc Diver, if you aren't careful.

Perhaps one day you can be as glorious as he.

Once he comes back, you could ask him about the colors on his armor and what they all mean.

Literally nothing I'm coming across is even close to how amazing Crusader's armor is.

If anyone out there feels the need to come up with pictures for all of our crew members, here is the basic design to start with.
>>
>>44618116
Another AT-TE commander. If we become anything else, we'd have to change the quest's name.

Though would that necessarily be a bad thing?

If people do agree on doing another commander, should it then become AT-TE Commander Quest: Redux? AT-TECQ:R? Then what from there, I wonder?

Thank you for your vote, loyal Republic citizen. It shall be cataloged in our servers and examined by our top experts.

Please wait warmly as we screen you to check to see if you are Separatist scum. If you are found to be one, expect troopers at your door within 5-10 Galactic Standard Days.

Thank you for your service for the Republic.

Consider that image saved, sir.

The quest was called Anno Domini 7: Germania Quest. I attempted writing it nearly a year ago, but I just lost the desire to write.

It was basically meant to be a spin off of the "Safe the princess from the dragon" trope, only the dragon in this case was a Roman legion and, by extension, the Roman Empire at 7 A.D. You were a German noble barbarian, who had returned home to find his village burnt to the ground.

It would have been a quest of building up a powerbase, politicking with other barbarians and Romans, murdering plenty an enemy, and possibly making an impact on history.

Twists and turns would have happened at every turn, and I was idly considering the implementation of pagan magic before I ran out of steam.
