(OOC: This is a bit of an experiment. This quest's system will be pokemon-ish with some of Breeding Season's mechanics into it.)

You ride your bike down the street, and park it next to the mess of turbocycles, jetrides and a few tied-up hoverboards. Then, discreetly, you wander toward the small alley next to it, and soon an enthusiastic murmur starts to build as you approach a bunched up crowd further ahead.

You soon reach the main, hidden plaza where all the people were at. They surrounded the small arena in the middle, talking to each other, tending their cocks, making bets and just chatting. The main event - the cock fighting, hadn't started yet.

Like some of the other people here - you're a rooster breeder - your passion is to raise cocks for cock fights!

However, so far, you haven't had the opportunity to really have your skills shine. Until now, you've only been a cock assistant for your big brother. However, he has recently gone abroad to study for college - you've taken it as destiny pushing you to become independent and shine as a cock breeder!

You still don't have a fighter of your own though! But you do have three hens that your bro left you, back home. All you need is rooster, and you'll soon have a few more fighter cocks at your disposal! Back in the day, it took quite a while for a hen to hatch eggs, but nowadays, it's pretty quick, and it only takes a couple hours due to advancements in genetic modifications and the egg production industry.

You've saved up some money to buy your first rooster. There are several sellers around here today who would gladly sell you a good cock for breeding, but you only have enough money to buy *one*.

What rooster breed do you aim to buy?
>Leghorn: High attack power, ferocious and quick. However, they're more vulnerable to attacks than others. They're the most popular kind.
>Jersey Giant: These guys are huuuge, but slow. They're strong and resilient too.
>Rhode Island Red: Fast, hard to beat down but not very strong. These dudes defeat opponent by stamina attrition. They're not very popular, but they're still effective fighters.

Clucky the Leghorn
>Speed: 5

PECK: Basic melee attack
PECK REALLY HARD: Inflicts a large amount of damage, but lowers all stats after use.

Gladly, you pay the friendly elderly feller for his cock. He was in a small, metal cage, and jumping inside of it now and then. He was quite the feisty fellow! You stroke clucky's little head, and humm to him how he is a good boy.

The main fights soon started. Eagerly, you went to see how the cocks battled each other. The birds would clash into each other, talons and beaks would be thrown at the other. The audience would remain silent, eyes wide, and then roar at every successful strike.

---*---

The fights were over, and you had some time to try to talk to some of the people here. You didn't know many people in the cock fighting scene, so gaining some contacts would be good before you went home to have Clucky breed with your hens.

You go and talk to one of the fighters. He was a rather famous young man, called Mark.

With a friendly smile, and while stroking one of his cocks, he greeted you as you approached him.

"Hey, you're new, aren't you?" he wondered. "Welcome to the scene!"

"Aah, no, no." you counter. "I've been really into cocks for a long time now, ever since I was in kindergarten!"

"Hey, aren't you... Penny?" he then added. "Little sister of that guy... Uhm, what was his name..."

"Clark? Yep!" you reply, idly caressing your new cock. "I'm her all right! I'm Penny, Penny Litoris."

"Wow, you've really... " he then said, looking at you and then at your cock. "...Grown. I almost didn't recognize you. But I can see that you're as great with cocks as always!"

"Hehe, thanks" you reply, blushing.

"PUH-KAAWK" Clucky butted in.

"Yes, you're great too, little guy" he said dearly, and gave your cock a little stroke as well.

---*---
After some more introducing and chatting, he gave you a list of internet websites with tutorials for beginner and intermediate-level cock fighters.

After the event had subsided a bit, you went back to your bike, loaded your cock into the front basket and went back home, to the outskirts of town. You lived in a small, slightly rusty trailer. It wasn't the best of houses, but you where proud to know that it was your own, hard-earned house through working as a waitress, cashier, and all other sorts of small jobs.

Behind, in a small, makeshift "back yard", you had a small hen pen, with your three little hens: Abigail, Betty and Clara.

"I've got a gift for you girls." you tell them, and unload Clucky into their area. "You poor things haven't had company like this for a long time, haven't you?" you cooed.

Cheerfully and with a giddy smile, you let them be, and wandered back to your trailer, and started to make some food.

Awesome thread and concept OP.
I'm wondering a few thing about the system we are going to play with so I'm going to write up a few question that you may choose to answer later on in the thread:
-How accessible are genetically modified roosters?
-Is there a class denomination related to fighting capabilities?
-How will traits and attack heredity work? Will it work half Pokemon style where they have the capacities to learn skills due to their ancestry or will it be pure innate/learnt skills?
-Do you plan on making cock fights under a strict legislation?
-If yes how regulated is it and is there ranking system?
-How will the money-making and specific breed purchasing system work?
-Will we have access to antiques breeds of chickens and non fighting race chickens for breeding purposes or are those extremely rare?
-Is chicken mass breeding still in effect and are chickens seen in a different way culturally?
-Are there anti-cock fighting groups in this setting? Will they act as the team rocket?
-Lastly since there is a large interest on this quest by a lot of people do you plan on ending the experiment and starting a quest with a similar concept or keeping this one since it seem like it has lot of potential.
PS:I'd to thank you because I've been writing up a setting in which the PC would be working for a Biotechnology National Lab/Corporation after WW3 with a focus on Genetic modifications and you've rekindled my hope to turn it into a quest someday by showing that people are interested in Biotechnology and Eugenics as tabletop games or quests.
sorry for the long post and the abundance of question in an early stage of this quest, you're doing great work so far.

>I'm wondering a few thing about the system we are going to play with so I'm going to write up a few question that you may choose to answer later on in the thread:
>-How accessible are genetically modified roosters?
Easily accessable
>-Is there a class denomination related to fighting capabilities?
Such as fighting breeds? Yes. You're not at that level yet, though
>-How will traits and attack heredity work? Will it work half Pokemon style where they have the capacities to learn skills due to their ancestry or will it be pure innate/learnt skills?
Both learnt and innate. Fire-breathing will be innate, for example.
>-Do you plan on making cock fights under a strict legislation?
No
>-If yes how regulated is it and is there ranking system?
Not too regulated. There are rankings, but that's more of a high-level pro concern
>-How will the money-making and specific breed purchasing system work?
Trading, mostly.
>-Will we have access to antiques breeds of chickens and non fighting race chickens for breeding purposes or are those extremely rare?
You will have access to everything, the only limitation is price.
>-Is chicken mass breeding still in effect and are chickens seen in a different way culturally?
Chickens are viewed as chickens as per Thai/other cockfighting cultures
>-Are there anti-cock fighting groups in this setting? Will they act as the team rocket?
Yes.
Maybe.
>sorry for the long post and the abundance of question in an early stage of this quest, you're doing great work so far.

Get to cockdueling!
>>
It's the next week, and soon time for the next weekly cockfight. The chicks - Joe and Millicent - have grown into fully fledged adults, and it was time to return to the arena's location as a proper breeder for the first time.

Chickens where bought and sold, but most of all, traded. Good males where extremely expensive compared to females given that one cock was good enough for many hens, but a hen could only breed with one cock at a time. It wasn't uncommon for a good cock to be traded for a slightly inferior rooster and a vast array of fertile hens.

You had to sign up a couple hours before the main event would start, so you had to decide now whether or not to fight with Clucky or Joe. The entry price was a bit high, but it was nothing you couldn't pay with your waitress salary.

However, despite that the prize for winning was well worth while, you had to consider that the cock that participates in a fight could die in battle, and therefore, not breed anymore. However, participating with a good cock does increase your chances of winning.

>Enter with Joe ( 3.5 / 3.5 / 1.5 )
Let's start out a bit more cautiously til we get the hang of this.
>>
>>44609942
>Enter with Joe ( 3.5 / 3.5 / 1.5 )
His stats are only 0.5 superior to clucky in only one stat.
meaning he is a net 2.5 point under him so he's not a good breed, losing him won't be too painful for us and he doesn't have absolutely shitty stats either so he could win.
>>
>>44609942
>Enter with Joe ( 3.5 / 3.5 / 1.5 )
Gotta give him some practice
>>
>>44610007
also bringing up a non perfect breed will make us the underdog later on, so if there are bets based on reputation (with an odd system like 1:2) we could rack up lots of money by losing early on but ending up winning afterwards.
>>
You decide to enter with Joe. After having the organizers of the event check your cock for any illegal modifications or enhancements, as well as checking his muscularity, reaction time and other parameters, they decide to put him up against a cock called Timbo ( 3, 2, 3 ).

Before the battle, you have a while to hang out and talk with the people around here. Perhaps you could talk to that battle champ again, or look for someone who could make a good trade with you.

>Talk to Mark, the cock fighter dude.

a 3.5/3.5/1.5 vs a 3/2/3 has it's chances.
we are a net 0.5 points above him in term of stats and his speed isn't as good so he'll have to rely on careful dodges or tanking the damage.
We could win this fight but I'm pretty sure we could not without sustaining injuries.

While it's true i believe the fight is in our favor because we have much faster than him and hit harder. So it will probably be resolved in the first few rolls, whether or not we can put in the first damage while having dodged thank to our superior speed which is significantly superior (a whole 1.5).

Anyway we'll see how the combat system work i suppose.

Rolled 2, 3, 5 = 10 (3d5)

You decide to groom Joe.

You gently comb out his feathers with your fingers, and give him some tasty seeds to nom on, as he laid in your lap. He rested for a bit, and as he did, you stroke his head and back gingerly.

Before the battle, you make him stand on the ground again, and you amp him up - clapping your hands to make him jump and playing with him to get him to be energetic.

>Gained advantage: If you roll a 98, 99, or 100 during the next combat, Joe will gain a "Second Wind", allowing him to last one more round during that combat when he would normally be defeated.

One of the organizers waved at you, and pointed to the area.

It was time for the fight.

You weren't formally introduced to the audience, and neither was the other contender. This was simply taken as a "rookie match", so there weren't many spectators either. Regardless, some people where watching, and a few even made some playful bets.

Each of you placed your cocks into the arena, and immediately, the fight begun.

>The first to inflict two "wounds" to the other wins.

>Roll 1d5 three times (one 1d5 per anon, first three rolls count), Attack, Speed, Defense. Add your stats to the roll, and thats the result.
>Whoever rolls higher speed attacks first in-game. Then, it's the other's turn, in-game.
>If the attacker's attack roll is higher to your defense roll, a wound is inflicted.
>There are additional rules, but we won't play with them for now since this is still pretty experimental.

Also, change this: "If the attacker's attack roll is higher to your defense roll, a wound is inflicted." to "If the attacker's attack roll is equal or greater to your defense roll, a wound is inflicted." so that battle are a bit less tedious and faster.

Joe:

Speed: 4+(3.5) = 7.5

Joe reacts quick enough to give Timbo a deep slash on the cheek, causing him to stagger backwards. In response, Timbo throws himself towards Joe and pecks deeply into his chest, and before either can continue, Timbo's owner stops his cock right in his tracks, interrupting the battle.

"We concede" he announces.

It's a reasonable choice, you soon realize. Both are wounded, but from the looks of things, Joe has a higher chance of inflicting the final, highly mortal wound.

The judges nod to each other, and then raise a flag towards you.

"The winner is JOE, owned by Penny Litoris!" they annouce!

I'll end it here! Next time up, we'll see what prize we get and continue our COCKY adventures.

When is this mysterious 'next time'?
>>

Our cock did us proud this day. I almost feel like this is worth giving Joe a shot at the ladies - maybe he can try with one of them, whilst Clucky gets the other two...

Anyway, thanks for running, I await next cockfight with great anticipation.

It is at least guaranteed to be less incestual than chancing mating him with his mother

getting a 4.5/4.5/2.5 chicken is less advantageous than getting a 6/6/2 i believe.

I think it's worth noting that currently strength and defense are way more important than speed.

Speed won us the first fight though.

Hey, what if the Attack variable gave us X number of dice to roll, like sayyy, d8s, and Speed gave us X number of dice to roll in defense of the enemy's attack? And each cockfighter has a thing called PS, Penetration Skill, which factors into the order in which each cock moves, the higher PS'd cock moving second, but shooting first?
