"Elia, I need your help."Your brother sighs and nods, automatically reaching for his sling. "It's Noh, isn't it," he says. It's not so much a question as it is a statement of fact."I thought I could cope," you nod, "And with the fields, I was doing well... But he's a growing boy.""I know what you mean," Elia nods, clapping a hand on your shoulder. "Still, it's only for now. He'll be able to help before you know it.""He's already chasing birds away from the fields," you nod. "He keeps trying to sneak up on them and catch one.""Well, my nephew's got some way to go before he can match the master," laughs Elia. Even entering his old age and with his joints starting to seize up, he still has an uncanny ability for moving quietly. He's also been uncommonly helpful to you, while you were still learning how to find your way around while blind. He may not be able to bring down larger prey, but if not for the birds and small creatures Elia can silently approach and put a slingstone into, you would have doubtless starved by now. And even Galit has been a great help keeping your children out of trouble. Whenever their mother's back is turned, Auntie Galit still watches them like a hawk.Elia still has to feed himself and his wife, but he contributes three people's worth of food to your family this season. It's still not enough to feed everyone, but you might be able to make up for the shortfall yourself. What will you do?>Hunt the aurochs 1d10 (Strength -Blind)>Fish in the river 1d10 (Skill +Fisher +Trait -Blind)>Explore the forest>Explore up the valley>Explore the hills>Try and investigate something new (List options)>Make something special (List options)>See what the mood of the clan is like, talk to people and get to know them (free)>Change your active jobs and examine your inventory (free)>Try to summon a new god>Make offerings to a god>Bring more land under cultivation>Other

Mesut has lifted the restrictions on hunting the aurochs at long last, but with your sight, you're only liable to get mauled to death if you try to keep up with the hunters. Instead, you simply return to the river with your girls and a small offering for Nila. Your offering apparently is accepted, as with everyone's assistance, you finally have enough to see you through until the harvest, with a little extra on the side as well. You breathe a sigh of relief, as you carefully portion out the food and estimate how much you'll eat. Half a season on lean food is bad enough, but two in a row is enough to drive a man to the kind of madness that the tribe has only the most dire punishment for... An involuntary shudder runs down your spine; you know you would never even consider such an act, but in desperation, who knows what a man could do? Regardless, the threat is passed now.It is now late fall and the harvest has come in. Your share is fairly handed out and comes to just enough to last you until early summer next year, with a little left over. The easy surplus of food is something of a miracle you really don't appreciate until there's not enough, you realise. Sure, planting, harvesting and processing the grain is hard and time-consuming, but with this, one man (if only you had your eyes, it would be you) can provide for many, leaving others idle to spend their time in other pursuits... Pursuits like uniting the clans as you plan to, perhaps. It is late fall. Also an idea for training magical telekinesis, we make a "target" by Out of a wood frame and a animal hide stretched between it.We practice hitting it harder and harder till we can pierce it reliably and accurately (add a series of rings?). If we can pierce it then we are capable of hurting others quite effectively.
>>44631165I am with you on practice magic. But specialized training. We should wait on since. Regular training g improves everything but it gets better and we need sight + telekinesis to be able to hit a moving target.

>>44631516Could we do something like going about and healing folks then? Sounds like it might be a way to increase our juju
The time has come for you to continue training your magic. You have the strangest feeling that if you had attempted it with an empty belly, it'd be much easier to lose control of the tempestuous force inside you. Naturally, that'd probably be a bad thing, so you wait until you have a few good meals inside you before you start training again. This time as well, you have a more solid plan to direct your training. Much like with ordinary muscle, you decide use is probably the best way to improve your spirit. Lifting heavy rocks with nothing but your mind is a start, but you also get Ebba to help you raise frames and make an improvised target range to test yourself. Strips and slabs of bark hang from strings, waiting to be struck with force; a leather hide stretched almost like a drum makes a target; Ebba helps as much as she can, testing your sight by sneaking up on you, or presenting objects for you to 'feel' and identify.By the time winter starts to truly set in, you have a fairly impressive training ground that the clan avoids like the plague. The downside however, is that all this raw practice is only pushing your abilities little-by-little. Straining your mental 'muscles' turns out to be a very inefficient way of training yourself to use magic, even if your aim has improved a little. As a shocking side-effect however, Ebba proudly asks you one day to watch a trick. In her hand, a single, fallenleaf floats, suspended as if from a spider thread, but feeling it with your magic, you can detect no such thing. Perhaps it's her being with you as you used magic so much; perhaps it is her heritage, but either way, Ebba has learned how to use magic. Beren is, predictably, horrified, but accepting.

Guys, I'm out and can't participate much but we have magic powers, a world to explore, and a monumental task given to us by a merciful goddess. And we spend most of our time fishing. We need to adapt. We are blind. I think we need to bring Mesut, in on the plan, tell him about our task and ask for help. We don't need to make him our enemy. We need to go full shaman/priest and set up our intertribal theocracy. Let's discuss this, how this might be done. My suggestion is>find an effective way to get better at Magic>learn as much as we can about the gods, maybe spend a season following each of the major local ones>take on a disciple or two from our tribe, definitkey train our children>approach the other tribes and tell them of "the command of the goddess"If we ask Mesut to lead our tribe while supporting our vision quest and unification I think he will dig that, he's not a dick and we've helped each other before
>>44633056On top of your suggestion, people have mentioned feudalism/land ownership starting under Mesut. It's clearly in his plans. Why not take advantage of his aspirations and be allies? Better to have somebody in power and on your side, than be against him.

Not what >>44633056 is saying, we need to be properly trained up on the magical front before our pow-wow with Mesut. A little more practice will give us a better bargaining chip and more equal standing.Train magic by fishing in the river and offering healing to people.
>>44634221Fortune favours the bold. Training our magic by fishing seems like such a poor idea compared to just wondering around and waiting for some kind of event to happen out in the wilderness. Besides we are destined for greatness not fishing
>>44634221I just want to automate food gathering so we aren't living hand to mouth and can focus on other things
>>44634416Getting fishing really good would grant us a reliable food source. Some combat telekinesis could be a good thing to try for in spring.
>>44634416I think once we reach a certain tech levels we will be able to do sucha thing, maybe after we mange to unite the tribes?
>>44634449I don't mean literally automate I mean just not have to worry about at the player level, like have someone do it for us
Perhaps precision is what you need most in your magic? Your training has indeed increased the range of your touch-sight from perhaps the length of your forearm, out to twice your arm's length and you have just the way to practice it more. Despite the biting cold, snowfall has been light for a few years now, so you dress up warmly and head down to the river to practice pulling the wriggling, slippery fish out of the water using the power of your magic alone. It's quiet down here at the riverbank in winter. Your clan doesn't want anything to do with the ice-cold water and the herders left in early fall, so you're alone, listening to the gurgle and splash of water over the rocks, the heavy breathing of the dogs you brought with you and the beating of your own heart, as you sit on a stone, close to the river's edge. The tranquility is almost too peaceful, crushing down on you with the weight of silence. You're so used to listening for anything now, that hearing so little is honestly a bit unsettling.Sadly, your attempts are far from successful. Your touch-sight is deflected by the surface of the water, rendering you almost completely unable to feel anything beneath it, unless a catch is unfortunate enough to break the surface right where you happen to be groping. Most days, you don't even catch enough to feed yourself, much less any surplus. You do have the most uncanny feeling you're being watched, but no-one approaches you and the dogs are quiet, so it must simply be a product of your mind seeking any other sign of life too intently.

On the other, the blessings of the gods could help anyone.""So long as they agree to play by your rules, they'll have the benefits of you and any other god-speakers, but if they try to act out, you'll just revoke the gods protection from them," Beren finishes your thoughts for you. "I love it!"It'll take some time in order to set things up. Beren might well be able to help in getting people on your side, but you both agree that this will really need a personal touch, to say nothing of the benefits actually showing off some magic will bring. The next time you visit another clan to gain their support, Beren will accompany you and start working her own kind of magic to further your plans for a single tribe, united before the gods.
>>44635310A leader using magic and speaking with the gods sounds like a shaman to me, not a chief
>>44635322>Unless what? That implies that the godsmoot shit was a means to gain absolute control of the tribe. What part of that is hard to undesrstand?
>>44635306I'm really not doing a good job with the social aspects of tribal and clan life, am I? Sorry everyone...I'll try to do better. Probably because I'm a bit asocial myself, I'm not too sure how people even interact...Anyway, votes called, as I said. Sera needs some words from daddy.
>>44635369The part where we need to be chief of each individual tribe, instead of wielding religious authority over all of them
>>44635387You should try making other characters do stuff more often. So far it feels like we always have to be the active party while everyone else is passive.
>>44635353He is a leader, no? We would have more control then Mesut, making us defacto in charge of the tribe. Theocratric rulers are a thing, there does not have to be a seperation of church and state. The whole vote and following discussion was that we would become head of state by being defacto spiritual leader
>>44635396Then we'd be the ruler via theocracy. That still makes us the head of state, heck that's what the Pope often was. He was both theocratic leader and head of state
>>44635444>>44635481Why not look at it then like Mesut is our subordinate, and we grant him chiefdom over this tribe, as our vassal, when we become Shaman-lord over all the tribes in the valleyIt's more cooperative and it'll make it so we don't need to fish every fucking turn to survive and we can do some cool shit with magic
>>44635528Because begging Mesut for help so we can do cool shit would sorely undermine our fledling authority, much like asking food for services would make us look weak.
>>44635528Yes, please. This is the goal. There are some anons in this thread with some very serious inferiority complexes if letting Mesut continue to handle administrative duties turns us into his "beta bitch boy"
>>44635568*fledglingAugh, curse these fat fingers
>>44635568Only if we beg, instead of approaching him any other way
>>44635439I do try, but it's sometimes hard to remember. Mostly, I have to keep it among your family, as they're the ones you interact with most.Mesut helped pioneer home building. That couple at the river invented net fishing... I suppose I need to step things up though. The thing is, you guys are progressing MASSIVELY quickly, so if the clan keeps up with that, we'll be in a steampunk setting in a matter of two or three generations, you know?Anyway, writing for real this time!
>>44635568>much like asking food for services would make us look weak.>doing it for FREE
>>44635568We are chief, it can be a power move. Command him, in a way that doesn't pis him off (so in a regular conversation where we tell him about our plans) to take care of our family so we can explode mystical shit
>>44635582Inferiority? We invented the harvest, and in handful years time Mesut has taken full authority and recognition. It's not inferiority, it's caution. Mesut wouldn't settle for being our underling, and would and HAS underminded us
>>44635657How do you know?
>>44635568Why assume we're begging?"Mesut, I need to focus more of my attention on the gods and appeasing them. Plus bringing more magical power to bear to strengthen our tribe. I cannot do this while also having to worry about the upkeep of food for my family, though I can take some time to cultivate the land. We will flourish with more access to magic, all I need is a steady source of food."Bam, simple sample conversation where we are most certainly not begging and in fact coming from a position of power because (aside from our daughter) no one else in the clan can do the shit we can do
>>44635657>>44635582RWB, settle this for us, can you have trym ask Belen about our relative popularity and respect among the tribe? And to talk us up to people?
>>44635666Um, based on previous interactions with him? Mesut nearly took part of our tribe and started a war by circumventing the elders, our highest form of authority. Why would we be any different if we upset him or was in his way?
>>44635615When I said "do stuff more often" I actually meant just regular things not inventions. Like just regular interactions or people we are in good terms giving some suggestions or just more talking. Like the last time we had to "react" to something was 3 threads ago when we got news that the goat herders arrived and since then we have to go out of our way for anything to happen.
>>44635726He has always been straight and honest with us, treated us with respect. We should try and win him over
>>44635657Not sure where you're getting the idea he has recognition for it. Pretty sure everyone remembers that we were the ones playing with grass first. He did that as part of an agreement that we ourselves made with him to split power back before we became blind and, big shocker, going blind prevented us from fulfilling our end of that bargain. Leaving him with more power because of our fuck ups. Mesut has never even attempted to backstab us. Why do you want us to run literally everything, we're part of a living breathing world, not only can we not pull off running everything it would honestly be disappointing if we didn't have to think for our solutions and have other characters to interact with and just "underlings" that follow our every whim.
>>44635690We can't control how Mesut perceives our request, though I hope RWB will let us role a leadershop role to gain Mesut's trust and patronage and not take it the wrong way
You find Sera making tinder for the fire. It's an essential, but very time-consuming job, feathering and flaking wood with a flint blade and binding it together into a tinder plug with dried grass and moss. It's perfect for if someone wants to be left alone however and the action lets the mind wander as you go through the motions half-asleep. It works so well for that in fact, that when you lay your hand gently on your daughter's shoulder, she starts suddenly and her knife slips, cutting her finger and causing her to bite off a curse. As you heal the injured digit, you carefully approach her withdrawal, asking why she's been avoiding everyone.Sera sighs and flexes her fingers. "Sorry. I don't mean to act so... Unfriendly. I've just had a lot on my mind lately.""Like what?" you ask, checking her hand once more and nodding, satisfied with your work when she doesn't hiss with pain."Like hunting," she sighs. Sera immediately catches your incredulous look and snorts. "Yes, I know how that sounds. It's not like that. I mean... You can't teach me, can you? Not... Well, not with your eyes." Her tone is apologetic; it's clear she's been avoiding talking to you for fear of upsetting you. "I'm very nearly a grown woman now - You know that everyone has to hunt or work, but everyone else is taught by their father or mother. Well ma doesn't hunt, you can't see and Uncle Elia... Well, he's Uncle Elia." She sighs. "It's nothing. I just feel like I'm... I'm a bad daughter? Or maybe I'm not and I'm just worried, because you're not a bad father, just...""I can't see and that means I can't be the kind of father you want.""Exactly."There seems to be little else to it. Sera is still the same as she always was and doesn't seem to resent you for your blindness; she's merely melancholy you can't be a father and daughter, the way parents have taught their children since the days of your grandfather's grandfathers.
>>44635770I can see gaining his temporary trust, but as many have pointed out the man is ambitious, irregardless of how well-meaning he is. His track record makes a permanent cooperation unlikely. He might go for it now, but in the future he may decide our prior arrangement is not to his liking
>>44635817We could still hunt with Sera, just not auroch.
/tg/'s biggest kid in the playground syndrome strikes again.
As a passing thought, you decide to ask Beren about what she has heard. She's ever been the more social of the two of you and has a better feeling for the general mood of the clan than you do. She's happy to tell you that the clan is largely content. To call them 'happy' would be pushing the word slightly, but with enough food in their bellies, no disasters to fear and no great internal strife, the clan is for the moment, concerned with very little. When you ask how they see you however, her tone falters somewhat.Your magic and more importantly, your scars and blindness make you and uncanny figure in the clan. You are, after all, the first cripple to live among them for any great length of time. There's some talk that you're bad luck to be around and that maybe you angered the gods in some way, to be cursed as you have been. No-one would ever say such openly, of course! Next to the elders, you're one of the more important figures in the clan, if only for your achievement in preventing the clan from fracturing and for leading everyone here to where you can farm your food."No-one dislikes you," Beren says quietly, chewing her lip, "But they are uncomfortable around you. They think you're a little eerie, the way you're always off on your own. The gods are strange and because you use magic and talk to them, you're strange too. I wouldn't call it anything as strong as fear, but..."
>>44635857Look, pretend it takes 20 years to achieve our goals without Mesut. It'd take 10 with him on our side. If he becomes a problem in 15 years it will still be manageable and we will be ahead of where we would have been otherwise. If you really are so opposed to instructing him to help us, let's at least instruct the tribe to feed our family. They are afraid of us, we have authority over them, and it'll let us do something mor interesting than fish every single fucking day
>>44635817Aw she just wants to hang out with dad and get a buck, well we could try a little expeditiion to one of the other tribes ourselves to say hello, see to those social bonds and along the way could hunt like a deer or something after all we could just lay out some traps, have her do the throwing for us and what not. Can't be too hard. Sides be hell of a lot easier to hunt then to fish with our mage sight.
>>44635798That'll depend entirely upon your roll. Mesut's not unreasonable, but sometimes things are communicated badly. Remember, his attempt to split the clan was caused out of fear that the strangers would force you out of the valley, if nothing was done: a not entirely baseless assumption!Anyway, that'll be it for tonight. I'm glad to see that there's some debate going on about your next move. Another few years of training magic and fishing and I think I'd have just generation skipped to shake things up a little...I'm kidding, of course. Barring tragedy, moving to the next generation is eternally your choice.Good night everyone. I'll see you in the morning as soon as I can, or on Monday, if the thread doesn't live that long. Until then, stay safe.
>>44635902Settles it. We need to address the clan and tell them about our instructions from Rhea
>>44635771I am fine with cooperating with our tribe, but the dude nearly drove our tribe to a costly war we barely avoided. Expecting Mesut to do our work for us and not having to owe him big is naive.
>>44635974So how would you address the sustenance issueWe wasted the entire thread fishing, fix that
>>44635960Do we need a crafting roll for the staff? What would our diepool be, if part of the crafting was mystical in nature?
>>44635969That makes no sense. What we need to do is show them that we're a producer. How about we trade our extra grain for the net.And we start fishing with the net + magic. Don't know if they're using nets for fishing but I would assume so.If not we look to have created an easier faster way to fish.If they are, we still look like we provide for our family. While also training our magic. The tribe will see us fishing with them, if by some odd means. Still fishing among them. Not as a loner and as a producer. Aftrer several sessions of magic/fishing. Once our fight is a decent distance a few yards/meters sphere around us. We can go hunting. We won't need a weapon since we could use sharp rocks or just if you want a few weapons of floating javelins into anything that gets in our range.
>>44636052Hunting. It's clear our magic sight doesn't play well with water. We might at least eke out a two die pool with the magic sight hunting, which is better then our fishing pool. We just need to avoid hunting auroch, and stick to hunting deer or small foraging creatures
>>44636073Fuck you no more fishingWe make them nervous, they think we are bad luck and have been cursed by the gods we need to prove that we aren'tAlso quit namefagging
>>44636073Also our healing should be a lot better, healing anyone that gets injured via. We just set up a large and small field in addition to what we had previously. Should provide enough food that we don't need to fish or hunt year around. And healSo we could share with the weak and old. Gaining their favor.>>44636100Yeah, and They see us not being among them. Fishing and potentially hunting with the group could solve how the stronger heads of family see us. And feeding the weak could easily see us as lucky/helpful to all. Via generosity.
>>44636052Thread usually carries on to the next day, just keep the thread alive until then.
>>44636140That's not a solution the time wasted>>44636131We can use the mystery as long as they trust and respect us
>>44636094Yeah, and once we get the hang of hunting with magic sight then maybe we can try bigger game, and more importantly we can teach Sera some of what we know
While fishing wasn't as productive. We feed our selves some nights and when we had more than 3-4 fishes got back to our family to increase the diversity of the meal to be more than just grain. Before we would only hunt and hunt and hunt. Not that we have some more free time, we can dedicate to other things. And I think fishing with a net + magic. could net us a decent haul of fish. To feed 2-3 people in our family and increase steadily as we fish more. And fishing and shamanism goes up.We feed our family while showing our kids how to fish with magic. And getting stronger magically. Possibly healing our own eyes eventually. Being bad ass, at hunting again + strong magic once we get our eye sight back.
Let's ask the wolf to teach our daughter to hunt
>>44636395>inb4 SoquedxSeraAlthough honestly that could be good for our lineage. I support this now.
>>44636395I'm all for this, father daughter hunting bonding exercise! Let's learn from a god together, boost our shamanism and strengthen our line.
>>44636437Get each generation to mingle with gods.. Then turn to incest combining those blood lines, the final one born will become the Emperor of Mankind
>>44636847Eh no, that would only work if we had a bunch of humans with magic an hero, THEN we would become Emperor.>>44636073I also like the idea of showing we can be of use to the tribe. The net plus magic could work, but you saw how the magic sight faltered against the water, too much back ground noise, I think it would be better to try going to one of the other tribes and along the way practice hunting with our magic. That way wed get the training AND show Sera how to hunt. Plus how else are we supposed to unite the clans? I think that Beren should keep making nice with the camp folk, while we go to Hunter Bros and talk abit with them about stuff. I mean after all we lost our eyes to magic, how metal can you get?
>>44636395>>44636437>>44636631I had an idea on convincing Soqed, prideful being that he is, but it may require eating some crow on our part. We could appeal to his vindictive side, tell him that we are making a great sacrifice by offering Sera to be taught by him, because ultimately it shows that we failed in being able to teach her, but he can show up the man that killed him by doing what we've failed to do and do better by her. I'm not sure how thrilled you guys would be though, just a suggestion
>>44637363As long as Sera becomes a badass hunter and has badass Hunter kids I'm up for anything.
Sera will learn how to hunt with Soqed help.
>>44637363>it may require eating some crow on our partI have a feeling Awak may object to that...>>44636053Currently, I don't believe craftsman is activated, so you'd be rolling two dice. As for your blindness, I think it'll apply the same kind of penalty for multiple actions. As to what that IS, I'll need to look back in the archive somewhat...
>>44640327Several people asked to switch to swap out fisherman with craftsman since the second update if this thread>>44631075>>44630586>>44630075>>44630756>>44631100So if you accept that, would that make our pool 4d10?
>>44640327I actually thought about working that in as a joke as I was writing that suggestion, but I decided against it. Glad to know bird jokes are universal. In any case when's the soonest we can swap jobs? I know people wanted to swap fisherman with crattsman earlier in thread, but I know we fished in between (what a fucking waste)
>>44640576Okay yeah, 4d10 with the penalties. It's really hard to find a difficulty curve that works. Either low levels are locked out of all by the most basic shit, or you get stupidly OP really fast... >>44640845Hold your horses there, Anon. I'll be discounting the rightmost roll in that sequence, because of your blindness. You can craft by touch, but I'm applying the same penalty as you would get for multiple actions.i.e.: -1d10 for any action, to a minimum of 1d10. If an action already only rolls 1d10, multiple actions impose a -5 modifierThese numbers are for attempting two tasks simultaneously. The more you split your attention, the bigger the penalties.
>>44640872Multiple actions? Is asking Sera to get ready for travel while we make a staff that penalizing?
>>44640872Wait okay what multiple actions? Can you just tell us our total pool is for the roll with penalties?
Rolled 10, 4, 4 = 18 (3d10)>>44640872So 3d10 then?
Rolled 3, 4, 10 = 17 (3d10)>>44640872Is it best of three rolls?
>>44640893>>44640909It's not a multiple action penalty, just one for being blind.Look, if you want to make a shaman's staff, you'll be rolling 3d10. It's that simple. Due to the tools and materials being used, the highest grade you could get out of this is Superior, which still is pretty damn amazing by stone age standards and comes with some minor benefits.>>44640946It always is, anon. I take the highest of the first three rolls for an action, provided it's the action voted for.

You know what's weird? Our interest in pairing Soqed with Sera reminds me that Soqed would be keeping an eye out for our firstborn. Anyone think Soqed called it?
>>44641284That's actually why I had the idea to send her off with hjm
>>44641284Are you implying Soqed was in on this wife husbandry shit? He was after our girl all along, the monster!
