You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

After finding the body of Lord Kraemer in his room, you got to work investigating the scene. Contrary to what Leviathan predicted, none of the councilmen were burned by Galadriel's sword, meaning none of them are the demon in disguise. Upon further investigation, you could find no signs of a struggle, suggesting that Kraemer was either caught by surprise or killed by someone he trusted. Finally, it appeared that whoever killed Kraemer also went through his drawers, possibly taking something with them, though you have no idea what they could have taken. After your investigation, you attempted to speak with the king about what happened, but were not allowed into his quarters, though the guard promised to inform the king of what happened in the morning. While there, you encountered the king's son, Prince Dietrich III, who was receiving treatment from the royal healer. As it turns out, the child's illness was due to a rare phenomenon in which his soul was too large for his body to handle. According to Galadriel, this imbalance will kill the prince if not treated, but the only people Galadriel knows could help him are Malaphas, Alastor, and an angel in the Void named Suriel. After promising to visit the prince again some time, you returned to your room for the night.

The morning after Lord Kraemer's murder is a solemn one. By now, word of his death has spread to everyone in the palace, and everyone in your honor guard has been caught up on what you know. So far, it seems only you and the council are aware that demons are involved. Probably for the best, it would likely cause a panic if the city believed a demon was not only hiding amongst them, but managed to kill a member of the High Council.

“...and I want each of you to travel in pairs at all times. No one goes anywhere alone, especially not you Siegfried.” Captain Laurentius explains to the group immediately after breakfast. “Moreover, I want you all searching for any clues you can find that might help us learn this demon's identity. If you find anything, no matter how small, I want you to report back to me immediately.”

The honor guard gives a collective “Yes sir”, and begins to split up. The next High Council meeting will be held this evening, you have until then to search for clues and make any preparations you feel are necessary.

>Go back to Kraemer's room. See if there's any more clues you can find there
>Find one of the councilmen, question them and see what else you can learn (Specify who)
>Head into town, speak with Laurentius's daughter and see if the city guard knows anything that can help.

I'm hoping this will bear the most fruit out of the options.

I'll go with >>44675120's suggestion, because Reinhardt is Reinhardt, and because I want to see what his face looks like when we finally meet Captain Gregory's cousin.

Yes they are, and yes you can.

Gregory's cousin is captain of the town guard, not the royal guard. He'd be in town, not in the palace.

Right, my bad. Nerillian's daughter, not Laurentius.

The honor guard begins to split into teams. Erika goes with Roland, Justine goes with Joan, Nerillian goes with Laurentius, and Reinhardt and Ganelon come with you. Before everyone splits up, you set up a Mind Link spell between the group, so that everyone can stay in touch if they find something or run into trouble.

With that, everyone splits up. You take a moment to consider where you should look first, when your promise with the prince springs to mind.

"Hey guys, would you mind if we made a small detour?"

"What kind of detour?" Reinhardt asks.

"There's someone I'd like to visit first. With luck, they might know something useful as well."

Reinhardt shrugs. "Alright, who is it we're visiting?"

"The Prince."

Reinhardt raises an eyebrow. "The prince? When the Void did you run into the prince?"

"Just last night." Ganelon explains. "When we tried to inform the king of what happened, we happened to come across his room and were invited in."

Reinhardt scratches his head. "Alright. I don't know what the prince would know about what's going on, but you're the boss."

---------
When you arrive outside the prince's quarters, you find the same guards from yesterday are keeping watch. Once again, the guards stop you when you arrive.

"We told the prince we'd come back to visit." You explain.

"Not right now." The guard says adamantly. "The prince is being treated right now, no one goes in without the royal healer's say-so."

Just as the guard says this, the door opens and the healer from yesterday steps out, looking a bit haggard. He wipes the sweat from his forehead, then approaches you and the guard.

"How is he feeling?" The guard asks, concerned.

"He's fine. I managed to stabilize him, so he should be fine so long as he doesn't exert himself too much."

After informing the guard of the prince's condition, he turns his attention towards your group.

"I see you've come to visit again. I'm sure the prince will be happy about that."

"Is something wrong?" You ask, concerned by what the royal healer said before.

"Not anymore, no. The prince suffered a bit of an episode, but he's fine now. I think he could use some company right now though, would you mind staying with him while I step out for a moment?"

You shake your head. "I don't mind."

"Good. I'll be back momentarily. If something happens, let the guards know and they'll come find me."

With that, the guards allow you through while the royal healer takes a break. Upon opening the door, you see the prince currently lying in bed, a wet cloth lain over his head. He opens his eyes slowly at the sound of his door opening and smiles.

"Siegfried? You came back." He says weakly.

"Yeah, I told you I would." You respond. Something definitely seems wrong with the prince. While he seemed weak when you last visited him, he seemed even worse today. His speech seems slower than before, and this time he doesn't bother to sit up when you arrive.

"Who's that with you, Siegfried? He wasn't here yesterday."

"This is Reinhardt, he's also part of my Honor Guard." You explain. "He's also from Morsland, we used to work together before we came to the Watchtower."

"Oh. Hello there, Sir Reinhardt. I'm glad to meet you."

"Uh...Thank you." Reinhardt says, looking a bit uncomfortable.

Oh, Reinhardt... You dream such dreams that those more grounded in reality never dare to entertain.
>>
>>44676537
You take a seat in a nearby chair. Ganelon and Reinhardt follow suit.

"So, how are you feeling?" You ask.

"...Better than before." The prince responds. "I still don't feel good, but thanks to Otmar I feel a little bit better."

"Sounds like Otmar is really good at his job."

The prince nods. "He is. Otmar takes care of father and I when we don't feel good. Usually he just takes care of me."

You nod. "I see. He must be busy then, with the king not feeling well."

The prince turns his head. "Not feeling well...?" He asks, confused.

"Well he hasn't been attending the High Council meetings, isn't that because he's sick?" You ask.

"I don't think father's been sick. He hasn't been coughing or anything, at least."

"He hasn't?"

"No...but it does look like something's bothering him."

"Bothering him? What do you think is bothering him?"

"I don't know. He didn't talk a lot when he came to visit this morning though. I told him how you came to visit yesterday and he looked like something was bothering him."

Given that the king is opposed to the crusade, you suppose you could see why the king wouldn't be happy about you coming to visit his son unannounced. Still though, the king isn't sick? If he's not sick, then why has he been missing the High Council's meetings?

"That's strange. Besides that, have you noticed anything else lately?"

The prince thinks. "No...I don't think so. Why, is something wrong?"

"...No, was just wondering was all."
>>
>>44677478
Around this time, Otmar, the royal healer, steps back into the room, looking refreshed. He takes a seat next to the prince's bed, setting his bag of equipment down on the floor next to him.

"Thank you for keeping the prince company while I stepped out." Otmar says. "I think it might be wise for the prince to get some rest now, but thank you for visiting."

"Already?" The prince asks, disappointed.

"I'm afraid so, prince. I'm sure Siegfried and his companions won't mind coming to visit again sometime though."

"...Alright." The prince concedes.

You are ushered out the door, and begin heading back downstairs. While you're alone, you discuss what just happened with the others.

"So the king isn't sick after all? What does that mean?" Reinhardt asks.

"I don't know. However, I believe Laurentius and the others would like to hear about this." Ganelon suggests.

You nod, and reach out with your mind via the spell you cast earlier. You can feel that everyone is still listening, and so you call out to them all via the Mental Link.

'Everyone, I think we might have learned something.'

'What did you find?' Someone says. From the sound of his voice, you'd say that was Laurentius.

'We just spoke with the prince. Apparently, he says the king hasn't been sick at all.'

'Wait, then why hasn't he been attending the High Council meetings?' Roland asks.

'We don't know. The prince did say it looked like something was troubling him though.'

'Hm...Curious. Perhaps we'll look into the matter later, if the guards will actually allow us to see the king.' Laurentius suggests.

'Alright then. For now, we're going to keep searching the palace for any clues we might find. Keep us updated if anyone finds anything.'

With that, the group begins to search the palace for any more clues. Ganelon, being able to sense the presence of demons, focuses on that while you and Reinhardt do a physical search. At first you find nothing, until Ganelon pulls you to a stop on the second floor.

"Hold on a moment." Ganelon suddenly says.

"Why, can you sense something?"

"Faintly. I doubt it's an actual demon, but I can sense a faint trace of something nearby."

"Where's it coming from?" Reinhardt asks.

"Here." Ganelon says, approaching one of the doors on your left. Inside, you find a large lounge room. Decorative suits of armor stand in the corner, and animal heads are mounted on the walls. A fireplace sits at the end of the room, surrounded by chairs where you suppose guests would sit and chat.

"It's in here somewhere, I can't tell where though. It's too weak for me to point out."

"In that case, we'll just have to search the area and hope we find the source."

Everyone begins to search the room thoroughly, looking for any signs of what Ganelon might be sensing. When you get close to the fireplace, something catches your eye.

"Hang on a second, what's this?" You ask, stooping down. Inside the fireplace, you think you see burn paper tucked in with the ashes of the last fire.

"Did you find something?" Reinhardt asks.

"Yeah, think I found a note or something."

Ganelon walks over and stoops down by the fireplace as well. "Hm...I think this is it."

"What, the note?"

"No, the fireplace. I'm sensing faint traces of magic here, looks like someone may have used a spell to start a fire here. That note in your hand has traces of the same spell, perhaps someone started a fire here to try and dispose of it?"

You think back to Lord Kraemer's room. While you were investigating, your remember the small drawer in Kraemer's desk that was left open and empty, like someone may have taken something. You can't be sure, but maybe this was what the killer took?

"Can you still read what it says?" Reinhardt asks.

You open the note and take a look. Much of it has been burnt so you can only read so much, but what you can read does confirm your suspicions.

[Dear Lord Kraemer. It has come to my attention that...I wish to make....I implore you to re....I hope you will keep this....Sincerely...]
>>
>>44679584
You shake your head. "I can't read most of it, but it looks like this was a letter to Lord Kraemer."

"Who sent it?"

"No idea, the part where is name was listed was burnt up by the fire. One of Kraemer's desk drawers was open and empty though, maybe the demon took this after they killed him and tried to burn it."

"That's possible. If I can still sense the spell's presence, then it couldn't have been cast more than a day ago." Ganelon points out.

"Question then is, who sent it, and why did the demon want to get rid of it?" Reinhardt asks.

"No way to know for sure. Still, it's a clue, so I'll hold on to it for now."

You store the letter's burn remnants in your pocket for now. You have a couple more hours to go until the meeting begins, now what should you do?

"Let's head back to Lord Kraemer's room. Maybe he left something behind that will tell us who sent this letter."

"Worth a shot." Reinhardt says with a shrug.

Exiting the lounge, you make your way through the palace and back to Lord Kraemer's room. On your way there, you see members of the High Council finishing preparations for the upcoming meeting. Some start heading to the meeting room early, with armed guards flanking them. Lord Kraemer's room is exactly the same as it was when you last left it, save that Kraemer's body is no longer here. From what you heard, people came to take care of his body a few hours after you and the others finished investigating the room.

"Alright, now let's look around. With luck, Lord Kraemer left a document somewhere about whoever sent him that letter. Check the drawers first, maybe there's something in there."

"Damn, nothing useful in here."

"Is there a journal in there? Maybe Kraemer would have wrote something about the letter there."

You shake your head. "Nope, no journal here."

"Huh. Maybe he would have hidden it somewhere, like..."

Reinhardt steps over to Lord Kraemer's bed, then gets down and looks underneath the bed.

"Aha! There we are!" He says triumphantly, pulling out a small leather-bound journal.

"How did you know Kraemer would have a journal? Or where he'd hide it?" You ask, surprised that actually worked.

"These big-wig types like to write down important stuff all the time, I figured it'd make sense for him to keep a journal for that kind of stuff. As for how I'd know where it'd be, well it's where I hide all my crap."

You wonder what exactly Reinhardt would be hiding under his bed, but push that thought aside for now. "Let me take a look at that." You ask, holding out your hand.

Reinhardt passes you the journal, and you start flipping to the most recent entries. On the last entry, you find exactly what you're looking for.
>>
>>44681538
[Tomorrow will be the first High Council meeting of the season, yet it seems word of my agreement with Lord Bernadotte has reached others. I had thought I managed to keep the arrangement a secret, as he requested, but it seems His Highness has gotten word of our deal somehow. Perhaps one of the servants overheard our conversation and flapped her mouth to him. Either way, it seems His Majesty has decided to send me a letter concerning the deal. He wishes to offer me a lucrative counteroffer in exchange for my vote, and I will admit it is very tempting indeed. However, there's more to this conundrum than just gold. My vassal Daffner urges me to vote in favor of the crusade, and while the Champion is certainly untrained in politics, he makes many convincing points. Lord Moeller tells me that the Crusade is doomed, that there is no reason why this one will end any better than the previous crusades. Perhaps he is right, but when I think of that brute Alastor watching us from across the border...I shudder to think what would happen if he truly did invade unprovoked. My lands lie close to the border, I am sure to suffer for it if the demons invade Iseria. If there will be war either way, I prefer to have the crusaders and a large army standing between my lands and the demonic hordes. I have sent His Majesty a polite letter of refusal, I can only hope this venture proves worthwhile in the end.]
>>
>>44681552
You read the entry aloud for Ganelon and Reinhardt to hear as well. The mood in the room turns grim as you continue to read, as everyone's suspicions from earlier are reinforced by the journal's entry.

"So it was the king who sent him that letter." Reinhardt states. "And if that is the case, then there's only one reason why the demon would go out of it's way to destroy the letter."

"We should inform Laurentius of this immediately." Ganelon suggests.

You do just that, reaching out to Laurentius and the others via the Mind Link spell.

'Laurentius, we've found something.'

'What did you find?' He asks.

You explain to him and the rest of the honor guard everything you've uncovered, from the burnt letter to the journal entry. No on interrupts you, but you can feel everyone's dread through the mental link.

'You suspect that the demon may be impersonating the king then?' Laurentius finally asks when you finish.

'That's what it looks like, sir.'

'And your positive about this? Is there any doubt in your mind that it could have been someone else?'

'I don't see anyone else it could be, sir.'

Laurentius sighs. 'Then right now we need to decide what to do.'

You hear the sounds of the cathedral bells ringing, indicating that the High Council meeting will be starting soon. The question now is, what do you?

She doesn't need to be concealable.

'Very well then. Everyone, regroup in front of the high council meeting room. Until we've confirmed that a demon is impersonating the king, no one says a word about any of this.'

There is a collective "Yes sir" over the Mental Link, and you begin to make your way down to the High Council's meeting room.

'Something about this seems off.' Leviathan says.

'What do you mean?'

'Impersonating a king isn't something Lilith's spies would do. Maybe a councilman, but a king is too much.'

'Why do you say that?'

'I told you before, a king is too well-known for a spy to impersonate easily. Besides, if he is impersonating your king, then why wouldn't he come to the council meetings? All that would do is make him stand out.'

'If the spy isn't impersonating the king, then how do you explain all the evidence we've found thus far?' Galadriel asks.

'I don't know. All I'm saying is, this doesn't seem like how Lilith's spies usually operate.'

'Well then, we'll just have to figure out what's going on tomorrow.' You respond. 'For now, we should focus on the council meeting.'

You regroup with the others outside the High Council's meeting room. Laurentius repeats the same advise he gave everyone yesterday, and then opens the door for everyone to head inside. When you step inside, however, you are caught off-guard by who you see.

Sitting at the head of the High Counil's table is a man with black hair, a beard, and a golden crown sitting on his head. A regal looking red cape rests on his shoulders, and four armed guards stand behind him. King Harald V, the ruler of Iseria, sits in his chair at the head of the table.

"Welcome, Champion. And welcome to you as well, Captain. If you'll just have a seat, we can begin this High Council Meeting immediately."

Thread's shorter than usual, but it's getting late so I think I'm going to call it a night here. Classes start next week, so I'll either be running again on Tuesday or Saturday next week. Keep an eye on the twitter in case something changes though.

Sorry again it took so long to run again. December turned out to be way busier than I originally predicted. Things should be settling down now though, hopefully.

I'll stick around for a bit to answer questions if anyone has them. Thanks for playing folks, hope to see you all again next time.
>>
This might have gotten more complicated.

Thanks for running.

FINALLY, the pressure from meeting the prince paid off. Time to shake hands as a show of faith to the other councilmen, and get on with the meeting.

A request for drawnon.

Siegfried and Joan have heard that Rienhardt is keepin some stuff below his bed and are curious.
Thus they sneak into his room when he's gone and find dwarven tapestries.
Only these contain h-stuff.
Titles like : "My little angel can't be this cute" (Sieg and Gal on the cover), "Princess hunter" , "Lilith and the hundred demons of lust"...
While Joan is furiously reading the other tapestries , Sieg is holding the one with Gal and him as the main actors.
Gal is shouting at him "Don't you dare reading it! " and pleading "Please bur it!".
Meanwhile Levi is urging him "Read it!".
>>
its the doctor guis
>>
>>44683042
we already shook hands with the doctor
>>
>>44683042
He's probably only a messenger with his family being held hostage.
Bernadette is probably the human mastermind who colaborates with Lilith and the king being the henchman here.

>>44683011

Meant "Burn it!" on that last one.

Also damn dwarves and their tapestries corrupting our youth!
Meanwhile Joan is reading a tapestry and laughing creepily.

>>

Sorry drawnon for the silly request.

I just find the idea of Sieg and Gal being creeped out by Reinhardt for having a doujin with them in it.

Also besides the cover Gal is in her tentacle eye form in it to make it wirder.

I'm guessing we'll have to probe King's reaction to his son's condition for signs of guilt...

Who was it that would be able to help the prince again? One of the angels? How much time does prince have? And what sort of event might inspire the angels to return to Earth again?

>Who was it that would be able to help the prince again
Galadriel said she knew of 3 people who could help him. Alastor, which is out of the question, Malaphas, which is even more out of the question, and an angel named Suriel, who is the Virtue of Sincerity.
>How much time does prince have?
Galadriel guessed that he has a few years left. Probably 2 or 3 years, 4 if he's lucky.
>And what sort of event might inspire the angels to return to Earth again?
Who knows? Defeating a demon lord would be a strong start, but you'd still have to convince Rathanael to rejoin the war. No easy task, considering he actively forbid the Angels from participating after the death of Aurelius.
>>
>>44684821

>Make a deal with demon that the demon in question who is already here will heal your son. Hinges on demon's word.
or
>Rely on new crusade, one following sequence of complete failures, to achieve such success that the angels themselves who quit right after the very first conflict, would come back to earth and heal the boy
or
>give up and deal with loss of the only son

kind of shit range of choices here for the king. Guess it's not unthinkable that we could convince him but it will be hard, unless Joan comes up with some revolutionary magical technique to fix the problem.
>>
>>44684821
I don't think I got an answer, but the nature of the condition is really just that bad right?

>the issue is with the soul itself, so continual draining/casting won't "shrink" the actual soul
>directly modifying the soul is too hard
>directly modifying the vessel is either mad science or demonization
>even if we constantly kept his body up with strength buffs, exercise can't keep up with the rate his soul will increase as he matures
>splitting his soul into another body is STILL mad science
wow, you got it tough, kid.
>>
>>44684953
>Make contact with Suriel to have her teach Sieg or someone from our honour guard how to heal the kid remotely.

As long as angels don't intervene directly in the war or descend to the mortal realm they should be allowed to at least comunivate with us without breaking Rathaniels rule.
>>
>>44684985
Or have the kid wield Gal for a week or two untill his body is strong enough to hold his soul.
>>
>>44685061
Sparks mentioned that there would be some as yet unmentioned.....difficulties....with allowing another person to wield Gal. No mention on whether it's due to time or that the Champion is still alive.
>>
>>44685061
That's going to dislocate his shoulder and you know it

>>44685039
But do we even have a means to contact the void?
We know beings from the void can contact those in the mortal realm, but what about the other way round?
>>
>>44685101
>prince is almost dead in his bed
>Sieg whispers to Gal and Levi. "What if we...."
>Gal replies "Are you serious!?"
>Levi replies "Sounds fun, let's try it!"
>Prince is now a tiny Lich You decide if he becomes a magical boy
>>
>>44685039
>As long as angels don't intervene directly in the war or descend to the mortal realm they should be allowed to at least comunivate with us without breaking Rathaniels rule.
You correct there, but healing him is easier said than done. To help the prince, you would basically need to perform surgery on his soul, and there's a reason Galadriel only knows of three people who can safely do that.

Plus, even communicating with the mortal realm is really pushing it. There's a reason Zaphiel told you not to tell anyone about him visiting you in your dreams.

>>44685061
That wouldn't really work. You see, the extra strength you get thanks to you bond with Galadriel isn't so much her dumping power into your soul and reinforcing your mortal shell so you can handle it so much as it is her augmenting your soul with her own essence to strengthen it. Ignoring all the other issues there would be in creating such a link with the prince, all this would accomplish is making him stronger. His soul would still continue to expand, until it becomes too large for his mortal shell to contain, killing him.
>>
>>44685039
I don't think that would work. Our dream connection is secret and clandestine, so it's safe to assume angels can't even communicate. In addition it's probably something that requires gift and power, not just knowing the technique which will alone be difficult to learn.
>>
>>44685101
For the contact we can ask Gal, Levi or Gals onii san.
>>
>>44685201
>>
>>44685417
I want to give him Wilhelm's Axe and take advantage of the demonization to strengthen his body.

He survives? OKAY! His mind is consumed? Let's kill him! Nothing could possibly go wrong!

Huh,it has been a while since last KMQ.

Even though I made myself at home here more or less,I did lurk that one as well.

It depends. If I can I might run on Wednesday, though I don't know if running on a weekday will be a problem since people have work and classes are starting again.
