Drifting in the emptiness of space you let your arms spread, exposing yourself to the cosmic embrace. A comet sails in the distance its tail glimmering with water crystals.

Silently your spear flows like fractal water from your armor to reform in your grasp. The silence of the void presses in like a suffocating blanket but yet you can feel the activity of your forces churning in the back of your mind, hear the faint whispers of their minds and emotions. Each and every one of them was connected to you, their existence owed entirely to your power.

The thought of whether this must be how the Wormstar itself felt passes through you but you silence your thoughts. You'd been relying solely on your large well of Necrotic power while neglecting your latest gift.

The metal of the spear twists as a flicker of ultraviolet flame flows along its length. You open yourself to the fires of the Void and the flickering flames leap from your armor and bones. Voidflames engulf the spear as it twists and curls in on itself to form a hoop floating before you. Your body glimmers like a small sun of ultraviolet light in the darkness, the circle of voidflame spinning faster and faster.

Swinging the portal around you aim at the comet drifting past. You feed the flames of the Void with your necrotic energy and those flames erupt from your fingertips and fire into the circle of metal with the comet centered in its view.

You watch, with the flames dissipating from your form, as lightseconds away a flickering sphere of voidflame and light swirls into being in the path of the comet before detonating violently. The flames of the Voids mini-singularity consume the comet wholly before detonating in a small nova of light.

Down on the surface of Horizon's Drop the colonists look up to the sky where a comet once sailed, a ragged nova of voidflame marking its death before fading away.

We need to upgrade and build up our home fleet and army.
Suggestions on Troll armament and if anyone would like the production of stingers, additional aquatic units or whatever, feel free to comment and if this is stupid and we should stay small, comment that too I guess.
We still have sizable Biomass reserves enough for at least 10,000 total talons, twice what this will bring though we’ll be running a little low on metal for a bit.

I think the coffin ships are already fully armed gunships mate.

Also, if we're going to be creating a bunch of trolls with specialty adaptations, why don't we make a new unit so we don't have to keep track of which trolls have which adaptations? I find that having modified templates listed as entirely new units makes book keeping much easier in the long run.

Completed Research:

>Lightning Cannon: The Stonestar lightning cannon is another one of their living weapons, gastropods with their shells and bodies warped into deadly ranged weapon platforms. The spined shell is actually threaded throughout with superconductive metal veins. Specialized organs much like those of your Zapper adaptation generate a powerful electrical charge before discharging the somewhat unaccurate lightning bolt.

>Hull Weapon Mounts: A passion project of a handful of Think Tanks. They realized that many weapons would be much more effective if they were just larger and so they've come up with a solution to make the ship the weapon. Hull weapon mounts run the length of a ships structural "spine". The longer the ship’s hull, the more powerful the weapon, but the hull mount cannot be aimed without turning the ship, making them inaccurate against mobile targets. They are the most powerful weapons available to a ship, and make for excellent siege or bombardment weapons. Stolen once again from HQQ

>Crystal Tech: Extensive studying and research on the derelict Crystalline outpost by a team of Think Tank researchers have finally brought forth their findings. The Crystalline tech relies, predictably, on the use of crystal-core computing and fiber-optic information relays. While the outpost was damaged in both the battle with the Crystal guardian and time on the radiation blasted planet the Think Tanks were able to extract some information from the technology and it's peculiar ability to drain and store necrotic energy. This draining ability nearly sapping an unlucky Think Tank of its power in an experiment.
>>
>>44676062
Unlocked:

>Lightning Gun: Almost more of an adaptation the Lightning Gun is a series of powerful electricity generating organs placed into a reconstructed unit. Conductive spines cover the unit with small sparks and arcs of energy linking them with increasing frequency as the weapon charges its attack. A trio of metallic tines replace the forearm of the unit that directs the devastating attack. Accurate only at short ranges the weapon has the unfortunate tendency of occasionally striking nearby allies should they draw too near. Cost: 3B 4M

>Crude Crystal Interface: Think Tanks can now interface with Crytalline technology but with only limited effect. Further research on less damaged or pristine Crystalline systems will increase the effect

By studying the way Crystalline defenses can drain Necrotic energy and store it to fuel their own power and attacks your Think Tanks have devised a way to weaponize it.

>Necrotic Grenade: By channeling Necrotically charged Biomass into a metal shell containing a replicated crystal it will function as a grenade that detonates into an explosion Necrotic Energy. This energy degrades systems, armor, and weapons reducing their effectiveness while also dealing damage to living targets.

Ahkam forces on Rukor continues to goad and urge the natives to gather up tributes of food and drink. Eavesdropping Gargoyles and your controlled Ructu overhear the soldiers speaking among themselves and you piece together that this planet was one of many that the Ahkam used to harvest provisions and supplies for their soldiers. The ructu were deemed too weak and primitive to be used for their interstellar conflicts but the Ahkam commanded them to strip their world of their bounty of fresh food gained from the massive oceans.

Your enslaved ructu managing to meet a small handful of important villagers. In a secret cellar deep in the ground with water dripping down the walls and roots that hung from the ceiling the eldest of the ructu introduces them to the dreamstone and visions of the Ahkam forces. Images of them subjugating other distant villages flash before them, the enslaved Stonestars on their sister world, the Ahkam fleet in orbit and even a short reel of memories from their battle with the Osjiic in a distant system. The ructu that brought the stone to the others begging them to believe that the Ahkam were not gods but tyrants. The slowly began to agree and speak of spreading the news to other villagers and villages.

Jor is given a few lessons in how to control his exoskeleton and the jump-pack, the Voidsinger helping the somewhat clumsy human. They wait for their time to depart to meet the mysterious Armatocere in their ships made of living trees.

The Eyegore you had sent to their designated meeting spot appearing with a flash of light into a small system. Only a single airless ice world spun around a red dwarf. The planet was nearly featureless except for ancient craters and frozen flows of melted stone and ice, a small ring of ancient scrap metal drifting around it. In orbit around the small planet was the same treeship that had arrived at the blue star system, the battlecruiser broadcasting a simple greeting to the Eyegore.

>What is this new research I see before me?
>>
>>44676655
There is much to tend to.

Ahkam forces terrorize the planet Rukor, stealing the food and livelihood of the natives. Nekris continues his guerrilla warfare against them, wire-traps and ambushes maiming and killing unlucky patrols. Shadows crucify and desecrate the corpses to spread fear among the survivors, whispers of Divers growing more intense.
Ahkam Fleet:
>1 Destroyer Capitol Ship
>4 Frigates
>8 Corvettes

Agona prepares her forces on the surface of the Stonestar moon, her soldiers continuing their bombardment of Ahkam supporters. Battles between the two factions growing sparse because of your air superiority to the natives. Her ships hiding under the storm layer or on one of the nearby moons await the commands to launch an attack against the Ahkam fleet.

Red-Leaf-Strains speaks more with her sisters about the benefit you could provide them. They were even starting to share simple lessons with the entirety of the tribe now that their sisters began to accept the lessons of the dreamstone. There was talk of visiting the colony visited in their dreams.

The Armatocere await your representatives, Jor and the Voidsinger needing only to be assigned a ship and escort before they depart.
What ship(s) do you assign them and how many troops do you send as an escort?

How shall you proceed?
>>
>>44676655
Hey Jyoti, I'm putting together a new unit design, and I had some questions about the metal bone sheath adaptation. Does it offer an increase in overall toughness like armor adaptations do, or does it just allow a unit to jump from really high up?
>>
>>44677100
It's not an armor adaptation so no, it doesn't give damage reduction or protection to weapons fire but it can reduce damage taken from blunt damage like being hit by a vehicle or the like without breaking a limb.

Units can take further falls without damage like you said, are able to function easier on high gravity worlds like the Osjiic homeworlds. It increases their weight so melee blows would get some additional force behind them.
>>
>>44677071
Let's send Jor and Voidsinger over in our Heavy Cruiser with an escort of two corvettes, 20 nails and 2 coffins, with a troop complement of 20 trolls and 30 talons, and of course, 40 crit crawls.

Jor and the Voidsinger gather their belongings and weapons before boarding the Heavy Cruiser along with a contingent of reconstructed soldiers. The sub-capitol lifts off flanked by a pair of corvettes, the trio of ships hulls covered in piggybacking Nail fighters and Coffins. A bubble of light and void energy engulfs each of the ships and at your word of encouragement the craft disappear into FTL travel, destined to arrive at the meeting spot.

Your Eyegore relaying a message to the craft of their departure, the treeship replying with an affirmative. They say there is an old "arena" on the planets surface that the diplomats are to meet on. Sure enough a thorough scan of the planet reveals a rocky plateau devoid of glaciers where a large circular amphitheater rested, a portion of its wall reduced to rubble from an ancient weapons strike.

>>
>>44678253
Exoskeletons can't be equipped by Reconstructed. They are intended to allow living minions access to weaponry and adaptations they would not be able to use otherwise.

Further advancements in Exoskeleton research may unlock powered suits that amplify Reconstructed combat abilities.

As is, trolls can equip the Jump-packs naturally
>>
Can we organize our ground troops into divisions or legions?

Because at this point we can produce a lot of them and its easier to organize and calculate upkeep if it 3 divisions of talons then 30000 talons
>>
>>44678377
That's something I've been meaning to do anyways just to make this stuff easier on the crunch.

To create this many ships your current ship yard will be backed up for a while. I would suggest building more shipyards or expanding your current shipyard on the moon.

Oh fuck I completely forgot a tech unlock from Capitol ships, just a sec
>>
I always thought it was weird civ quest would not scale up when resources and the amount units went straight up

I mean focus on everyone loadout was fine when you command a squad at most but when you can start producing whole armys you just get bogged down by all this crunch

>>44678253
I mean look at those calculations for the rippers and tearers

It kind of tedious when we end up producing 1000 worth to just define what al those abilities do you know?
>>
>>44678565
This is true, I was just attempting to find a way around the problem of us forgetting what we've equipped a given unit with. I've already completely lost track of how many jump pack equipped trolls we've got running around, for example.

But in any case, the GM has just stated that the tearer design is redundant, so it's a non issue by now. What do you think of the ripper design?
>>
>>44678560
How much do ship yards cost, and how much will it cost to expand our existing operations?
>>

A semispherical half-dome sub-capitol ship that is focused on defensive measures and guarding an area. These half-dome ships can land on a planet or asteroid to provide anti-air support. Telescopic eyes of Gargoyles watch a pair of fighter craft flying just above the waters of Rukor, Kosda and Epikor pilots seen through their cockpits. The stout craft were swept-back teardrops with oversized rotating cannons emerging from the nose, black smoke trailing from their noisy engines.

The fighters sail between small islands with sparse trees and bushes, too small to home anything besides birds fleeing in fright.

Nekris and a group of Shadows rise up from the shallows of the water, Javelin launchers lifted up onto their shoulders as they use Gargoyles to aim. A rain of deadly spears fill the air and strike the two fighter craft, several embedding themselves in the hulls.

The fighters barely had time to attempt a swerve away before the javelins impaled in the hulls detonated, explosions rocking the ships and shattering their hulls. The flaming craft splashing into the waters where aquatic Talons and Stalkers swarm the down ships, pulling the survivors from the wreckage and torn apart in a frenzy of activity.

Your Eyegore above listens with relish to the reports suddenly filling Ahkam communication waves, multiple attacks taking down several patrols within minutes of each other.

Feel free to suggest suggestions for troops and ships (and resuggest I'm sorry, had to get my mind settled with reworking numbers)

Your Eyegore watches with its mass of twitching eyes as there is a large flash of light and spike of background void energy as the trio of ships exit FTL within the system the Armatocere had designated. The treeship visibly shudders as weapon mounts are unveiled, your eyegore detecting a flare of energy within it.

There is a long tense moment as your ships hold their positions with small craft still docked to the larger ships before there is a transmitted message from the ship, "You bring warships and fighters to first contact meeting, what is your intent?"

The ship makes no move to attack yet but your Eyegore can see what appeared to be weapons mounts of twisted wood and metal aimed at your ships and bark pulled back to reveal the holes of missiletubes.

How do you respond?

There an escort for the diplomats of course,

It was Jor that responded, his voice carried over to the craft, "These are merely an escort to ensure the safety of diplomats. We have encountered many aggressive forces to reach this system. We apologize for bringing such a heavy armament, they are not intended for you and will remain a respectable distance. May we proceed with diplomatic contact or shall we be on our way, we do not seek conflict," he leans back in his chair, glancing at the Voidsinger who nods in approval of the message.

There is a long moment before the Eyegore watches the battlecruiser relax, weapons retracting and energy levels cooling. A message is soon relayed, "We apologize for our rashness. Please proceed, representatives await you on the surface."

Jor and the Voidsinger stand and make their way to one of the Coffins, detaching with a pair of Nails flanking it as they slowly descend to the planets surface.

The Coffin manages to land without any further complications on a flat field outside of the ancient arena. They had spotted a craft resembling a spined seedpod slightly larger than the Coffin resting on the opposite side of the ruins as they landed.

Jor and the Voidsinger depart from the Coffin, a handful of Trolls following them to the ruines. There was a simple tunnel through the wall and they step through it, the Trolls staying in the shadows. The pair of Diplomats walk the rest of the way across the black stone covered in a thin layer of ice crunching under their feet.

Emerging from the opposite tunnel are a pair of peculiar creatures. Both are obviously plants themselves but differing greatly from each other.

One was a floral creature, narrow and tall walking on three short limbs with a long "neck" leading to a large flower like organ with an array colorful petals and sensory organs, a cluster of eyes on stalks swaying side to side.

The other was a lumbering creature of thick limbs and thick bark, bristles of thorns running along its barklike flesh, plates of protective metal embedded into it. It didn't seem to have many features besides a few holes that shine with reflective black eyes within. What appeared to be an array of seed-pods cling to its back with short vines, possibly a symbiotic species or even a weapon.

It was the floral creature that seemed to be the diplomat, twisting its flexible stalk to regard the pair, a metal box hanging around its metal transmitting a simple synthesized voice to the exoskeletons radios, "Greetings, I am Sapling Sllrt sent to greet you, representatives of...Lord Jadyk was it?"

Exchange general knowledge of each other, and maybe share knowledge about nearby star systems. Maybe some history as well?
>>
>>44682006
Basic knowledge but mainly a focus on borders disputes to ensure there is no conflict starts with them,

maybe minor trade in resources to open with and earn trust

basically goal is to ensure a line of communication and minor trust and respect so we dont come into conflict right now,

because we are already waging war with the arkham and divers while the clans and ojisc will probably retaliate once they find out what happened to their fleets

Jor bows before the strange aliens with the Voidsinger bowing their head courteously. The floral alien, Sllrt as it called itself, mimics the bow with its stalk as Jor begins to speak, "We are vassals to our Lord Jadyk. I am called Jor while my friend here...doesn't quite have a name yet," he says with sudden uncertainty but the Voidsinger grunts and nods. Jor shrugs and continues, "We wish to know about you and your people. We have seen many animal races but never any spacefaring flora. Pardon me for being so frank," he says, hoping he hadn't insulted them. He had never thought he'd be making first contact with an alien race, that was always for people way above his paygrade.

Sapling Sllrt's synthesized voice crackles over the radio, "We have noticed that we are a rarity in this galaxy. There is much life like us, yet few like us. We Armatocere wish for a peaceful life to grow and study. You discovered us in one of our research worlds, studying the unique effects of that star. We apologize again for our brashness then and earlier in orbit," The stalk seems to droop in shame before perking up, petal quivering, "First contact with new factions has not always been cordial," the stalk swings around to look up at the Voidsinger, "Like our encounters with the Osjiic Empire-States and their Voidsingers. Rarely does your races empire wish to speak instead of battle."

The Voidsinger, armored and hidden behind the exoskeleton, is taken aback but he shrugs, his voice gruff, "I no longer serve the Osjiic Empire. I serve a greater power now."

Sllrts stalk twists back to Jor then the Osjiic, "Race and species rarely seems to be the strongest bond to unite others together."

Jor nods and steps forward with his hands raised jovially but halts as the large guard shifts forward, dark eyes glittering as they stared at Jor but he speaks instead, "A very good observation. We were hoping to ensure a peaceful acquaintance between our people. You say you wish to grow and study, these goals mirroring our Lord Jadyks own goals. Perhaps we could help each other with these efforts?"

Sllrt is silent for several moments, perhaps contemplating the suggestion or communicating with another before answering Jor with another question, "What do you seek and what are you willing to trade for this?" The plant lowers its "face" down to Jors helmet, the cluster of small eyes swaying before him

Jor pauses a moment to think before answering, "To start off simple and build trust between us we can offer raw material for trade. Secondly we can offer knowledge of many subjects. We can come up with a list if you wish. My Lord Jadyk would like to know of your people and whatever history you feel comfortable sharing. He also wishes to know of any borders you would prefer we avoid. We do not want to intrude where we are not welcome."

The Floral creature goes silent once more for a longer amount of time before answering, "Resource trade is a good start. Provide us a list and we can decide later if there is anything we can learn from each other should this trade continue to seem innocent enough."

Armatocere offers a potential trade deal

Sapling Sllrt continues, looking from one diplomat to the other, "Us Armatocere are, as you can see, a flora species. Our origins are quite unknown to us. Our earliest histories only a few millennia old beginning with the arrival of the great Seedship Yggdrasil in this galaxy from the unknown.

We just wish to learn more about this galaxy and it's systems and people. Our Eldertrees teach us that stagnation is a curse. That perfection is unattainable is not reason to not strive for it," the plant's synthetic voice picking up on its enthusiasm as it speaks, "Truthfully our quest for knowledge is more to assure our safety in this galaxy. We have been treated with fear and mistrust or outright aggression. We do not wish for war but we do not shy from its knowledge and lessons either," the stalk twists into a low bow, "That is to say, this is not a threat. Just an unfortunate fact that much of our history involves conflicts with other races and powers to ensure our survival."

The stalk turns to go eyelevel with Jor once more, "We do not know you or your Lord, there is much to be suspicious of. Such as a human and an Osjiic Voidsinger serving a mysterious entity and coming in strange ships with technology that smells of Necrotic energy being foremost of those reasons. We have not had good encounters with those that wield this power."

There is a whisper through the Think Tank connected to Jors armor, your voice reassuring him. He takes a breath then nods, "We have grown dissatisfied of our former leaders. Jadyk offers us a place where we can be free of petty politics and war for selfish reasons. He wishes to protect what is his and his followers. He has protected us and liberated us and our fellows from many oppressors like the Confederates, the Osjiic and even the Ahkam. In gratitude we serve him, his gifts giving us the strength to protect ourselves and our people."

>>44682980
I hope we can be friends if not allies/protectorates of the plant people even with the whole inherent evil.
>>
>>44682980
The armatocere diplomat goes silent before bowing its stalk, petals closing them peeling back, "I suppose it is not my place to judge where you place your loyalty. We share several foes it seems. The Confederate wish to steal our knowledge, the Osjiic our worlds. The Ahkam have been violent to us but have given up attempting to subjugate us after their folly of attacking the Seedship. Necrotic wraiths seem to favor our ships, the Sun-Eaters ghosts draining trees of life."

You sit forward in your seat lightyears away, watching the screen of the view from Jor's helmet. Your voice a sudden harsh whisper, urging Jor to interject. The human winces but holds up a hand, "I'm sorry, but did you say necrotic wraiths? The Sun-Eater?"

Sllrt's stalk shakes, a few leaf-like growths falling to the cold ground, "I did. The Sun-Eater, foe of the Armatocere and everything living. Her Wraiths and Banshees haunt the spaceways, ambushing and draining the life from everything they encounter. They reek of Necrotic energy similar but vastly different to what fuels your own technology. A partial reason for our earlier unease. We can provide the systems that we have encountered them in if you wish to avoid them."

Jor nods, thanking the plant-creature for the offer. They start to speak of the specifics of the trade, ships due to arrive in this very system to trade the ore for the food supply along with discussion about possible knowledge trade and border agreements.

Agona was immediately alerted by a group of Gargoyles patrolling her domain spotting movement on the cliffs leading up to her mesa fortress. A Cyclops leaps from its hole in the rocks, skin dark as the stone as it peered at the object scaling the cliffs.

A roughly spherical chunk of jagged obsidian floats unconnected but obviously supported by four long spikes of smooth carved stone picking its way up the mountain. The Cyclops lowers its Spine Caster, aiming for the construct but Agona halts its itchy triggerfinger.

The creation of volcanic stone climbs the cliffs only to be greeted as it came to level ground by Punisher Agona holding her Bone Rifle and standing at the head of a group of Stingers. Her eyeless gaze watches the construct as it comes to a halt before her, the chunk of obsidian glass bobbing lightly between the limbs. Finally she grew annoyed enough and asks gruffly, "A representative of the Lavafather?"

Similar to the gravelly voice of the entity within the lavapool a voice grinds within Agona's mind like cracking stone, "I am one of the Obsidianborn, one of the Lavafathers creations. He sends me to bring his regards and thanks in your efforts against the Ahkam betrayers. Your aid has given a much needed respite to the faithful. He would ask for a further boon. A request that he understands if you hesitate to grant."

Agona nods, motioning for the construct to continue as she feels the heat of your gaze watching events transpire, "Go on then, I will listen."

The voice, in it's mostly monotone voice fills her mind, "The Lavafather would request your aid in allowing his forces a way off this planet. He yearns to tread the cosmic void after all these eons and knows you have the capability."

Agona's thumb taps off her rifle, claw scratching at the handle.

The Lavafather requests aid in becoming spacefaring.

Agona's lets out a laugh, slinging her rifle over her shoulder and spreading her massive arms, "Let the molten core of this world spits is anger and fury among the stars. If the Lavafather pledges itself and loyalty to Lord Jadyk and the New Necrotic Armada we will assist you."

The chunk of volcanic glass spins in place, the voice answering readily, "Loyalty shall be the price of freedom gladly given. The Lavafather himself can never leave this moon but his children, the Obsidianborn and the loyal Stonestars, shall leave this world to visit others in his stead. We will gladly join your battles against the Ahkam in other worlds and systems. They are a corruption that must be burned away."

Your general speaks with the construct, the Stingers returning to their duties. The construct says it will relay specifications of a ship after gaining a rudimentary knowledge of ship technology from your Think Tanks. This construct is able to immediately communicate with the Lavafather while on the moon, acting as a direct line for Agona to question.

Thanks for running Jyoti, always enjoy your quests.

I've been meaning to ask, but did the Wormstar and by extension Jadyk have a monopoly over mastery of necrotic energies? I assumed the wormstar was a sort of elemental manifestation of it, similar to how Lorgul's patron is associated with void energies. Has necrotic energies often been employed by powers other than Jadyk?
>>
>>44689388
By quite a few actually.

The Wormstar was a powerful source of it yes but not the only one. Same as how the Black Flame that once controlled the Voidknights was a powerful well of Void energies.

Much of the old Necrotic Armada and the Undying Court used necrotic energy to fuel their creations and ships. Akka-Tor's Wraiths and Ghosts are powered/formed of necrotic energy themselves.

Similarly, there are other wielders of Void energy out there with no connection to the Black Flame and the Voidknights.
