Phi is right. You need to calm down. You need to Stay Professional. As you half sit, half fall into a nearby chair, you breathe.

In.

Out.

In.

Out.

Professionalism is what will keep you alive in this war.

In.

Out.

As a soldier, you always need to keep your mind clear, focused on the task at hand. You have to be aware when your comrades are not. It is your responsibility to be vigilant for threats against your comrade's lives.

In.

Out.

Your brothers rely on you for guidance, for good decision making, for proper tactics that defeat the enemy and allow them to return back to base alive. You are an officer of the Grand Army of the Republic, a leader among men, born to win this war no matter the cost.

Not at the cost of the lives of your brothers. Needless, unwarranted, manipulated death is not something that you will ever allow for your brothers. You will always be there to protect your comrades, provide support for their assaults, relay intelligence important to the battle at hand.

Your duty, the reason you were bred into this world, is to keep your brothers alive. Bandit was right about that if nothing else. The men under your command are your responsibility.

The men of 6th platoon are not under your command.

You have a command, but with no men in it.

Most of the men in 6th platoon are rookies, fresh from Kamino.

Like you, only a couple days ago.

You will protect them.

You will be the one who leads them into battle, not a line of rebellious scum who will cower behind the armor of your comrades, filth who will only rush in after troopers have lost their lives for their war.

You know who you need to talk to.

You are already moving, running, rain splattering against your armor, mud sticking to your boots.

You do not care. You have men to protect. You have a duty to fulfill.

Vision blurs, time warps, you are outside, then inside, in light, then in darkness.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44723945
You are shaking, fists are curled, clingy hot words are burning your tongue.

You unleash them, your general stand before you, you hold no mercy.

You will show no emotion.

What meaning do the lives of your brothers have?

Are you nothing but expendable lives to be thrown into the meatgrider, treated as nothing more than walking weapons to propel into enemy fire?

Are you nothing but slaves for the war of others?

Are you nothing but beings bred to bleed, to suffer, to scream and to die for intangible ideas?

Are you nothing but a murderer for ordering your men, your brothers, human being created from the same seed, should you not be condemned for directing them to their deaths?

Are you nothing but a cog in the machine that is war?

What are you, general, you beg, you plead, you stand stoic, you wait, you demand, you scream for the answer.

Everything is silent, and always has been.

You are standing in a familiar room in front of familiar people-
-Him, the man with the blue had, the cape, the scar on his cheek?-

It does not matter. You glare at your commander, your general, the Jedi leading you into battle, the one you fought alongside, the one you saved from utter defeat.

He is looking at you now, concern plaguing his expression. People are trying to talk to you, ask you something.

You do not hear them. You entire world is captured in the general's eyes.

Here is your superior. He has proven himself a warrior, as all Jedi are.

He was happy that you survived. He did not like that your comrades died.

Soldiers die in war. That is their duty. To fight and perhaps die.

You protest. 6th Platoon. pointless, death.

Your thoughts are muddled, slow, but peace slowly flows through your body.

Compassion and concern for comrades is good. Too much compassion can result in their deaths. Temperance, tranquility, reason.

To be a commander is to understand that sometimes, men will die because of your decisions.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44723978
To be a commander is to understand that you are the decider of what those men's deaths will mean.

Will it result in victory, or defeat?

Always strive for victory, but never be afraid to stand strong in defeat.

The war is larger than one man, one clone, though every life is important, there is a galaxy of lives to protect.

To be a commander is to understand that you must always survive to lead your men, so that you may protect them, guide them.

To be a commander is to understand that you must always Stay.

Professional.

Stay.

Professional.

Staystaystaystaystaystaystaystaystaystaystay

Professional.

Your world will end once you are no longer a professional.

Your world will end once you are no longer-

Your world twists.

You see Kenobi's eyes, blinking.

You blink back.

You are standing in the command center. The table between you and General Kenobi is projecting a holomap of the entire front. You see a familiar list of cities, the same cities you saw in the datapad captured from the Nationalists. There are the Republic and Loyalist lines. Dotted around the map are a series of Forts. Many are labelled to be occupied by "Pirates." Are there more than just the Separatist scum that are preying on the Republic citizens of Jabiim?

"Hey, Lieutenant?" You look over to see Bandit standing beside you. Next to him is Jackpot and Phi, all three of them staring intently at you. You survey the room around you now, moving your eyes from right to left.

Next to Phi and Jackpot stands Commander Cody, then the General. Then there is a human wearing an old fashioned officer's hat, colored black and navy blue, wearing a crisply pressed navy blue uniform that is adorned with dozens of medals. Over his shoulders rests a black combat poncho, and he is staring at you with blue eyes sparkling in amused confusion. To the left of the soldier stands Xtreme.

> [Cont.]
>>
"Lieutenant," Kenobi garners your attention. "Thank you for arriving, I have a new mission for your forces to move out on in 3 days time."

You stand at attention, mentally kicking yourself for standing so sloppily before your general. You are needed to perform a mission for the Republic. You must be attentive.

"Yes, General." You say. Nothing else comes to mind. Why should it? You only need to listen to the briefing for your mission.

"All right, there is a regiment of Loyalists forces moving through the city of Termat, here." The holomap focuses in on the city. It rest near a large river that opens up into the ocean. The map scrolls up stream to the nearby location of "Fort Dawaq."

"Here is where an enclave of mercenaries and pirates have taken control." Kenobi continues. "We have intel that the pirates are working with the Separatists to blockade supplies from reaching the city. The fort has 6 anti air cannons and an unidentified amount of anti personnel emplacements, as well as a commanding view of the city. If the deal goes through and the pirates allow the Separatists to occupy this fort, then it will result in the bombardment of the Termat." Kenobi motions to the man in the blue uniform. "This here is General Nar Tarik, leader of the Loyalist forces in that sector. He is who you will be working closely with during your operation, Lieutenant."

You will be fighting alongside the allies of the Republic? Sounds good.

General Tarik speaks, his tone both grave and gravelly. "If Fort Dawaq falls to the Separatists, then the entirety of the northern flank will be cut off from the rest of our forces."

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44724014
The holomap expands back out, showing the strong, centralized presence of allied forces in the south east of the continent. Up the eastern coast the battlelines thin all the way to the shoreline where Termat is located before expanding back deep inland across the northeastern section of the continent. The Northern front is close to the city of Choal, according to the holomap Loyalist forces are roughly 50 kilometers away.

"As you can see, our ability to resupply and reinforce our push against the Nationalists to retake our capitol would be cut off if Termat falls."

Bandit speaks up. "What is the condition of the battle in that area?"

"There has been no fighting around Termat," Tarik states. "Inland from that city is filled with pirates, raiding the land all around on both sides. Both sides have engaged the pirates on occasion, but we have never been able to make a significant push into their territory."

The holomap focuses in on the area west of Termat, a swath of land approximately 60 square kilometers that is labelled "Pirate territory." The area is centralized around the highlands that the river near Termat flows from, and dotted around are 5 other forts: Forts Releq, Sarvalle, Narniq, Vetelle, and Tarnugiga. Further to the west of their territory is the main battle lines between the Loyalists in the south and the Nationalists in the north along the center of the continent.

"Fort Dawaq is in a prime location to deter all air traffic in the sector. According to my intel, the pirates do not have any anti armor with the yield to pierce the armor of an AT-TE." The General points at you. "This is where you come in, Lieutenant. Your walkers and men are to support my regiment in assaulting, and retaking, Fort Dawaq. Any questions?"

You are going to be sent into battle, soon.

There is much you do not know, but you do not know what to ask first.

Our intelligence is obviously compromised. In our first battle, we survived an overwhelming ambush, and when the base was attacked the next day they hit the vehicle depot first and knew Kenobi was coming. At a bare minimum the "Loyalist" forces are, obviously, infiltrated. Therefore, we should expect an ambush at any time.

Something nags at the back of your skull, something half remembered, almost like the faded memory of a dream far ago..

You shake the thought from your head, focusing on the task at hand.

"Generals," You begin, maintaining the proper stance of attention. "What forces will be joining me in assisting the Loyalist assault?"

"That would be Major Bandit's two companies," Kenobi begins. "Your company, and and an additional force of clones will be joining you, the newly formed 6th Platoon. They will be acting under your direct command, Lieutenant, while Bandit will be working alongside you."

You will be having a bunch of shinies joining you? At least this engagement should not be too taxing on the recruits. It is unlikely that they will have to go through the baptism of fire that you experienced.

That reminded you of something. "I apologize for the interrupting General," You say. He crosses an arm across his chest and rests his hand on his beard as you pause to gather your thoughts. "There as a Private CT-42/522 that I wanted to have transferred temporarily to my company as a potential replacement for the open slot in my AT-TE crew." For the life of you, you cannot remember-

Kenobi nods to Cody who immediately moves away. "Done, Lieutenant. If there are any other troopers who you would like transferred, bring them up to Commander Cody in the future. For now, allow the General to continue his briefing."

You nod, turning your attention to General Tarik. "I will now inform you of my forces that you will be assisting. It is an infantry regiment of 1,200 men, mostly consisted of professional soldiers who served before the civil war, though it is bolstered by local Termat militiamen. They have a company of AT-RCTs with a support and flanking role, numbering 50 in total. There is also a platoon of commandeered Separatist STAPs that is led by the militia leader in Termat, Colonel Roph."

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44724725
"He will be my proxy on the battlefield Lieutenant, so any of his commands is to be treated as a command stemming directly from me."

"Understood, sir. What will be the plan of attack, General?" You ask.

Tarik looks uneasy for a moment. "Colonel Roph informed me that he is working to recover stolen military vehicles. If they are recovered, the plan is likely to change. Regardless," The general zooms the holomap on the river between Termat and the enemy fort.

"The plan will be for your walkers and men to move to this position," Tarik points to a hillside covered in trees to the Fort's west. "You will hold there and provide long range support to my forces as they move under your covering fire, here" An arrow appears rounding the northern side of the hill and moving through the forest to attack the Fort from the north. "And here," An arrow to the south, moving along the riverbank, marches directly on the Fort's western wall.

Before you could examine the battle map further, Tarik cuts away to the general overview Pirate territory. "Once you have recaptured the fort, Lieutenant, you and your men will push with Colonel Roph through the raider's territory." A blue arrow designating your forces bounces from one fort to the next before regrouping with the main battle line roughly 30 kilometers to the west. "After you have eliminated the pirates from our lands, then you will regroup at Cobalt Station." To the southwest of where the arrow exits the occupied land the icon for the station lights up. The station is 40 kilometers to the northwest from Shelter Base, and the city of Termat is 70 Kilometers to the northeast.

Not a short journey, though you are certain that your walker will have the fuel, and ammunition, to carry you through it.

"Do you have any more questions, Lieutenant?" Tarik states. Although there is no emotion in his voice, you do not think he is annoyed in any way.

You actually told your favorite instructor back on Kamino about your dazed episodes. He said that every clone has them from time to time.

You should not focus on them, he said. If you do, you will end up daydreaming too much and likely get a fellow brother killed because of your lack of attention.

This is the same instructor who taught you to Stay Professional in all situations, regardless of emotion. You learned much about what it means to be a commander.

You would've been a dreamer if you were not meant be be a soldier for war, your instructor told you.

"No more questions, General." You say. "I only require time to examine the battle plan with the Major here."

Without a word General Tarik shifts the holomap back to the area around Fort Dawaq. The land rises up alongside the river at the edge of the highlands, trees popping up in spaced out forests throughout the area.

On the tallest hill in the area rises a perfectly hexagonal fortress. The hill rests directly on the river to its south, with a sheer drop off to the west where a thick forest is occupying the valley between the Fort and a plateau. To the north and east the hill has a more gentle slope, but where once there was evidence of forests is now nothing more but plains. To the south the hill is again rather steep, though not enough to prevent infantry or perhaps speeders from scaling it.

"This is edge of the pirate's territory." Tarik states. "They stay in the highlands around the river, entirely on the northern side until the river reaches its source. Because of the natural defensiveness of the area, the Harnal region has been treated as a barrier between the front lines of our forces and the Nationalists. If the Separatists occupy this area, our center will be easily flanked and all supply lines will be victim to their raids." Tarik slashes his hand through the air above the holomap. "We cannot allow such a situation to arise. We would lose control of many of our holdings if the Separatists attack from these highlands."

"General," Bandit asks. "Why was this region left undefended before now if it had such strategic importance?"

"The pirate lords had been fighting amongst themselves for years." Tarik explains. "Neither side has had the free manpower to thrust into their territory, and the pirates have been unable to make an offensive out into the plains. Before the war there were plans to evict the pirates, but then Stratus declared Jabiim a Separatist planet. We had thought the pirates would not be a threat. We were wrong, unfortunately."

Then your forces rise up on the hill to the east and in the forests to the north. Republic troops are colored red, while Loyalist forces are colored blue.

Your walker is set at the top of the hill where the southern forces are massed, and from there you have good eyes on the Fort from afar. The Republic troops are mostly infantry, with a couple of speeder platoons to the south with a walker platoon there and to the north east of your position.

The Loyalists forces are almost entirely infantry except for 4 AT-RCT platoons leading the southern thrust.

Large arrows appear over the map, pinpointing the areas of attack the forces will undergo.

> I have to go provide a ride, so I will be back in an hour or so.

> Plot! Plan! Indicate different avenues of attack if you wish.
>>
>>44734188
What if... We did a full frontal assault? Ride our troops honorably against them like a wave, we all get to die as heros today. Its the way the Imperium and soviet russiadoes it and I think it'll do well here.
>>
>>44734188
How high is that southern ridge? What is the distance from that ridge to the fortress?
>>
>>44734432
That's pretty much what is already going to happen. You just get to sit on a hill and fire from afar, then move in later.
>>
>>44734188
Let's send out some of our speeders to skirmish with the defenders to the south and east. They'll be able to identify enemy positions and numbers, harass them as the loyalists approach, and spot for our walker artillery. However, we should make it very clear to the speeder groups that their main purpose is to scout and harass, not to engage in some suicidal frontal assault without support. If they come under heavy fire, retreat.
>>
>>44734649
If our supplies are good the Saber tanks could do a rolling missile barrage
>>
>>44734526
The slope is roughly a 45 degree angle. The AT-TE could walk up the slope, but it would be roughle 300 meters of walking up hill across open ground. Fast moving forces would be better to assault from that angle.

As of this point in time, the TX-130 will not be joining you for the battle.
>>
>>44734188
Could we send a smallish commando squad to infiltrate the fortress at night and cause chaos before the assault? Generally assaulting fortresses directly is stupid, which is why sieges usually took years of attrition in the olden days. The sooner they break inside, the sooner we can break inside.
>>
>>44734547
What's the elevation per interval on these hills? Can we infil/exfil reasonably quickly?
>>
>>44734188
Do we have any intel on the likely strength of the enemy and perhaps some overhead recon so we know what we might expect as far as defensive emplacements on the fort itself.

Made a concept for Jinx.
>>
>>44734922
As of this moment in time, no. All you know is that it is occupied by pirates, and that there are 6 anti air cannons inside.

More intel may be forthcoming in the near future.

For obvious reasons, you will not be having direcr air support in this attack.

>>44734850
The closer the interval, the steeper the slope. The distance is about 50-100 meters in between, with increasing distances the larger the intervals grow.

Any forces that move on the southern flank will be seen by the enemy, unless they infiltrate at night, though there is still a chance of being caught.

You have no commando forces that you are aware of at the moment, only your walker, 6th platoon, and Bandit's 2 wcout companies with AT-RT platoons and BARC platoons with 2 ISPs each in support.
>>
>>44734188

Alright ... fuck. So we're assaulting a fortified position from downhill to that position with only a little utilization of an encircling movement. Is there any chance of being able to surround the fort or do we not have enough forces to pull it off? Because that way at least the Separatists would have to spread their coverage to all the way around instead of being able to focus all their fire to the west. Do we have any sort of air support whatsoever? Like at all, a zeppelin would be useful even if only to draw a little bit of fire.
>>
>>44735090

Right anti-air cannons, so ignore the second half of >>44735092 then. Of course we still have space ships available, any chance of an orbital strike just prior to assault to soften them up?
>>
>>44735092
>Like at all, a zeppelin would be useful even if only to draw a little bit of fire.

Kek. Yeah this isn't great since the only reason this assault is even being considered is shitty intel that the pirates don't have anti-armor emplacements. Which is probably just a blatant lie by the Loyalist General considering the quests tone.
>>
>>44735092
Static defenses have generally drastically decreased in effectiveness with the advent of long range bombardment. However, there is a big difference between ineffective area fire (in essence blanketing where the defenders are in hopes of killing someone), like WW1 era artillery, and precision strikes on enemy gun emplacements. We need to see and discover the enemy emplacements, and in particular heavy weapons, without being seen if at all possible. Sending in scouts, speeders, or other skirmishing forces in advance of the main "attack" could be successful in doing that.
>>
>>44735071
I dig it
>>
>>44735172
im 300 per-fucking-cent theres going to be hidden heavy AT guns or atleast repruposed artillery as anti armor
if me move in infantery gotta clean or spot first

any info on the west side?
>>
>>44735355
Definitely agree with you on the likelyhood of AT guns and the need to spot first.

Sending in the infantry first could go very badly, however. The enemy has nukes (albiet small ones). Massed infantry against that kind of firepower is suicide. Our tanks could probably withstand anything beyond a direct hit, since the nukes aren't armor piercing. We just need more intel period to make a successful attack.
>>
>>44735449
a very spread AT-RT squad recon?
could work, and as long the enemy genneral doesnt feel pressured nuking his own fortress feels unlikely

i know theres gonna be a superweapon surprise, and that makes me impossilbly nervous
>>
So, how intact we need to keep the place? Because when in doubt, slag it from orbit.
>>
>>44735090

Oh and are the anti-air emplacement fixed or tracked? How are their elevation capabilities? Once we start the attack would they be able to point these weapons at us and shred the infantry?
>>
>>44735355
The west side is a small valley in between two almost sheer cliffsides. A squad of infantry may be able to scale the walls safely, though you have no current intel about the pirates.

>>44735510
General Tarik insists that you keep the Fort as intact as possible, especially those AA cannons. Loyalist command wants to repurpose those for other theaters in the war.

>>44735685
According to Tarik, the emplacements were built to repel enemy ships in orbit. With concentrated fire, they can just as easily take down a capital ship in low orbit than shoot down a squadron of bombers.

He does not say how the pirates came to be in control of the fort.

Just so you all are aware: You are not leaving immediately to go fight in this battle. You will be shipping out in the morning, and it will take the majority of that day to walk up to Termat and group up with Colonel Roph's forces.

Though I would not stop planning for the battle in the meantime, especially as new intel comes in.

With regards to writing, I will treat me answering your questions as the "in character" planning. So, whenever you are ready, we have a couple different options to continue on to do:

> [] Go and speak with Carla.
> [] Go and speak with Crusader.

Some other potential options:

> [] Speak with Jackpot about Old Man's story, ask about recruits for the Saber tank.
> [] Interview Gravedigger.
> [] Interview Deadeye.
> [] Go and speak with Twitch about personal weaponry.
> [] Tell Commander Cody that you want Old Man to be transferred to your company.
> [] Other

Do not feel compelled to vote until you feel like you have planned enough. Right now, the leading ideas are sending in a recon force, whether it be with speeders or infantry, to gather intelligence about the battle, with the speeders acting as spotters for the mass driver.

What would 6th platoon be doing in this battle? They are under your direct command, and currently are right to your north on the 2nd map.

we got speeders? like speeder bikes?
we could usem to do some high speed recon

as long we get some field info it will be good, even if its just "a thers a big gun there"
>>
>>44736402
>we could usem to do some high speed recon
And high speed attack. Stick a guy with a rocket launcher on the back of a speeder for some highly mobile Anti-vehicle units.
>>
>>44736484
we might no get grinded after all
>>
>>44736484
Yeah, sending in a scout force on speeder bikes with rocket launchers sounds like a really solid way to probe their defense. Let's just make sure not to commit all our bikes to one engagement... if we lose them we could be without a high speed mobile element.

Actually, that started me thinking... We don't have air support, but that doesn't mean the Separatists don't. What's the plan in the event of going up against enemy flyers (either fighters or transports)?
>>
>>44736972
>What's the plan in the event of going up against enemy flyers (either fighters or transports)?

Throw the Jedi at them. Human cannon ball style. Because seriously, at that point we are fucked.
>>
>>44736972
I pesume the plan is our walker shooting it down.

We might want to either get some back up plans, or maybe requisition a radar antenna so we can spot incoming a mile away.
>>
>>44737038
Yeah, we should probably try to pick up an enhanced sensor suite if we can before heading out.
>>
Maybe we can see about sending Gravedigger in at night to mess em up?
>>
>>44737149
one more for the upgrade list
armor, mass driver, smoke launchers, sensors

"I agree with you Lieutenant," Bandit is saying. For the past two hours you have been discussing potential courses of action, theorizing about the enemy forces. General Tarik had left after explaining the capabilities of the anti-air cannons, saying he had to inspect is troops. "We cannot make a solid decision without intelligence on the pirate forces. We do not even know if there are Separatist droids assisting in the defense or not. We'll figure it out, mate." Bandit nods his helmeted head towards you, a smile lilting his tone. "I am glad to be going into battle with you again."

"And you as well, Major." You say. Jackpot is standing near the back of the room, busy looking at a datapad in his hands. "Perhaps we can take the time to celebrate our previous victory later, Bandit? I have a few things I need to do."

"Understood mate, I have a couple of my boys that I need to see. Here," Bandit activates a private comm channel with you. "Just say the word and we will meet up wherever. Cheers, Lieutenant." The Major walks out of the command center.

Xtreme and Phi walk with you as you approach Jackpot. Xtreme yawns as he speaks; you remember seeing him half doze off when you and Bandit were discussing strategy. "Did you find anything, Jackyboy? I liked that old fool."

"First," You interject. "Have you been able to find any more potential transfers to crew the TX-130?"

"Yes, I was able to confirm Old Man's story with General Kenobi before you all arrived. Also, according to my research, there are five new recruits arriving tomorrow that are certified to operate a TX-130." Jackpot finishes tapping on his screen and extends it towards the three of you. "I also found video evidence of one of the battles the Corporal discussed."

Video evidence of a battle? That is something that is unheard to you. Before you press play, you ask, "Will the recruits be able to be questioned before we move out?"

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44737310
"Absolutely sir. I can do it myself, though if you would like to interview the new recruits, I will certainly defer to your judgement." Jackpot says. He holds out the datapad patiently.

After a moment of hesitation, you press play.

The all too familiar sound of droid blaster fire explodes out from the datapad as a recorder is filming a bright colored and rapidly moving forest. The camera pans down to focus in on the open topped laser cannon and an above shot of the front armor of a TX-130.

Red blaster bolts are lancing all around the Saber tank, and as the recorder jostles and violently pans up, you get a glimpse of a destroyed heavy laser cannon on the tank's right side. The incoming blaster fire on screen stops, but the overwhelming sound does not.

When the camera refocuses, it reveals a line of B1 Battle Droids easily a dozen thick marching alongside a force of Super Battle Droids equally as numerous. Behind them are at least a full company of AATs hovering behind the infantry. All the enemy forces are firing off to the right of the screen.

They are marching away from the camera towards a defensive line of troopers hiding behind damaged AT-TEs in a desperate final stand. The camera picks out the familiar blue of lightsabers deflecting hundreds of incoming blaster shots.

The volume of Separatist fire far outweighs the return fire from your brothers.

"Is the recorder drone up, Ragtag?" You hear a voice yell over the fire.

"It's up Old Man!" A clone closer to the recorder says.

"Good! We have to buy time for the LAATs to arrive! Everyone, hold on. Ragtag, keep that drone up! I want to see them again before I die!"

"Copy that!" "Yes sir!" A second voice calls out after Ragtag.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44737334
The Saber tank flies forward, moving diagonally across the side of the Separatists lines towards the AATs. The lightning speed of the TX-130 causes the camera to lose focus in the sudden blur of motion, the feed shaking around before being stabilized a moment later.

When the camera refocuses, it is pointed directly at the front of an AAT.

"Come and get me, droids!" Old Man laughs down below.

The droid commander looks down at the tank and jolts back, letting out a confused "Waaaaaah!" It points down towards the camera, calling out. "Enemy tank! Blast 'em!"

As the main cannon depresses to aim at the tank, Old Man rotates just off to the edge of it. He makes the droids spin the cannon nearly 90 degrees before quickly reversing direction, passing in front of the cannon for a split second.

The camera watches as the AAT fires, its shell whizzing past before colliding with an oblivious AAT a couple meters off to the side. The droid wordlessly points at the tank before it shoots past. The surrounding AATs all turn to fire at the Saber tank, though because of its close proximity, low profile, and high speed only dirt and slagged armor plating from hit AATs touch the TX-130.

The two other clones in the tank are cheering, but Old Man is completely silent. When the Saber exits the AAT formation, instead of turning around and going for another pass as Ragtag was joyously yelling at him to do, the Corporal drives the hovertank into the foliage as tank shells begin to hammer around his position.

"Get that drone in here!" Old Man orders as he exits the trees into a line of B1 Droids. Before the video ends, you see the Saber tank plow through the droids, sending bits of sparking metal in all directions.

The screen goes black.

As one, Xtreme and Phi whistle in admiration.

"Xtreme, Phi, Jackpot. What do you think of this trooper?"

"I want him." Xtreme rests a hand on his hip beside you. "I want him willingly."

"He's pretty good." Phi says, looking away as if to seem aloof and distant.

"I believe he would be a useful addition to our future battle capacity." Jackpot deadpans.

Both Phi and Xtreme groan. "Come'on Jacky," Xtreme complains. "Can't you lighten up just a little bit?"

Jackpot simply stares at Xtreme for a couple moments. You stay silent, enjoying watching X begin to fidget under Jackpot's gaze.

Right before he seems about ready to crack, you speak. "I agree. Jackpot?"

"Yes sir." He gives you a quick salute before marching away.

You think that he might be more professional than you are. You are not sure how to think about that.

"Well," Phi extends his arms out to his sides in a stretch. "It's been fun and all following you around all day, but I want to enjoy my last night before returning to the field."

"Wait, Phi," Xtreme cuts in. "Are you saying you have someone lined up?"

Phi gives a flitty shrug with his left hand. "I don't know X, would you consider a pair of twins "someone?""

"Oh, I see how it is." Xtreme crosses his arms across his chest. "Do you require a fellow soldier to brave such dangerous waters?"

"Any time, brother. Any time. Lieutenant," Phi turns towards you. "If you would like to join us, you may."

"Thank you for the offer Phi," You are not entirely sure what he is offering. How could twins be dangerous waters? You don't remember seeing any body of water nearby anyway. "I something else I need to do. I will see you two tomorrow, bright and early."

"Of course sir." Xtreme giggles as he and Phi begin to walk away. "I wouldn't dream of anything else!"

As your crew members leave, your stomach grumbles loudly. It has been a long day, hasn't it? Soon you can relax, you promise your complaining body.

The sun was setting as you closed the door into the castle. Still the rain pounds against the castle's roof, and you can still hear splashing water echo through the long hallways. As you passed by the hallway leading to the throne room, you saw multiple streams of water running across the ground as a veritable waterfall descends from nearly 20 meters up.

You found yourself staring at the water for almost 5 minutes before moving on. There are truly small beauties to be found in on this planet.

Keeping an eye out for Doc Diver, you walked into the medical bay. After asking an orderly where you could find her, you sat down next to her bed.

Now, you are watching Carla sleep. Already many of the wounds you saw on her this morning have been healed. A stab of guilt flings itself into your chest.

She almost died today because of you. She is not even a soldier, though she has been forced to fight.

You wonder if she had any brothers? Or, a family?

That thought makes you stop. What does it mean, to "have a family?" You understand you have your brothers, comrades to fight alongside in this war, and while you understand that "brother" if a familial term, it still does not explain the idea of "family." Are your fellow clones your family simply because you fight together? Or is there something more to it?

Of course you all are clones of the same individual, Jango Fett, that's the reason you are all "brothers." Though, you cannot help but continue to wonder what "family" is, your ruminations taking you down into your memories, especially of all the holovids you watched.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44738397
Many of the vids ended with the smuggler hero saving the girl and the two of them would jump happily into hyperspace together before the credits appeared.

They too fought together in many of those vids, and many times the girl saved the smuggler from certain death, much like how Carla saved you. So, even though you cannot call her your brother because she is not a fellow clone, because you have faced combat together, does that make you family?

A gentle girlish giggle shakes you out of your thoughts, and when you refocus you find yourself locking with those sparkling green eyes once more, eyes gleaming with happiness.

When she speaks, her voice is weak yet determined. "Hello there, Lieutenant. I'm glad you came." As she shifts her head to get a better look at you, her red hair shifts across her forehead.

A weight wells up in your throat.

She is glad to see you, even though you nearly got her killed.

You sit silently with her for a moment, unsure of what to say. You had wanted to come here and talk to her, to start the conversation you intended to have before the Nationalists attacked.

You are having difficulty thinking of the words.

Despite the temperature regulators in your suit, your face feels incredibly hot. Both to allow your head the ability to cool off and an excuse to avert your eyes from those sparkling green gems, you remove your helmet. As you rest the helmet it your lap, you ask, "Carla, how are you feeling?" You allow your eyes to flit up to look at her.

A small smile spreads across her lips. "I feel fine Lieutenant, don't worry about me."

Don't worry about her? You are an officer, a commander, a leader of soldiers. It is your duty to worry about the lives of those under your command.

Then again, she is not a soldier, though you treated her as one.

Confusion rolls through your mind.

You are again at a loss for words, though thankfully she is quick to interrupt the impending silence. "You know Lieutenant, I can see how you're different from everyone else."

You pause. "What?"

"Now that I have a good look at you, I can see you for you." Carla smiles, though in a moment it drops. "I'm sorry I snapped at you before. I, I wasn't in my right mind."

Her eyes seem to slip away from you, leaving your gaze so to look up at the featureless ceiling. Her expression, once warm, is now as blank as the white paint on your helmet. "You did follow through on your promise, Lieutenant. You came to talk to me about everything. So, I suppose you can ask me questions."

She shoots you another one of her small smiles. "I'm sorry I'm not as energetic as before, I'm just tired, but don't mind me Commander. I'll be up and at 'em in the morning for you." She closes her eyes and tilts her head as her smile grows larger. "You can rely on me."

As you try to formulate a response, Carla sighs, her face dropping once more. "I assume you want to know who that Jedi was?"

Information on the traitor. You perk up, paying closer attention to her words. You nod.

"He, well." She hesitates. "He is a cousin of mine. His name is Chrys, and he was taken from my aunt years ago." She stops to lick her lips. "I, uhm, I thought he was dead. I guess he is now." Carla trails off, running a hand through her hair. "And before you ask, I don't have any other family that's been taken away or disappeared like him. Just, well." She stops herself once more.

In the growing pause, you are able to ask some questions. Your head is still whirling, though you remind yourself.

Stay Professional.

Yet still, you wonder...

No Jinx, stay focused.

But, well...

"What is it like to have a family?" Your voice is small to your own ears, a bare whisper that passes through your lips. As you see Carla react to the sound of your question, you look down, fearful of what expression may be formed next.

You could watch her for ages.

"Hm, Lieutenant?" Carla says. "What's it like to have a family? What do you mean, you are all the sa- Oh." You hear the shuffling of her sheets as she adjusts her position. "Well, a family is like, well it's like what you have with your fellow clones. You stick together, you know? Through thick and thin, you stand up for each other against the entire galaxy."

You hear a brittle edge to Carla's voice. When you glance up at her, you see that she looks uneasy as she talks. "You, uhm, your family is where your loyalties lie above all else, 'cause you know that you can always rely on them. Governments change, neighbors change, wars change, but family," Carla's voice breaks. When she speaks again, she is very quiet. "Family should be there when you need them."

Her lower lip is quivering and a glassy sheen is building up under her green eyes. You look away, down to her shoulder on instinct, averting your eyes from something truly horrible.

You hear her sniffle. As she moves her arm, you look off to the curtain past the foot of her bed. "I," You try and speak. Carla halts making a sound and you can feel her attention on you. "I am sorry it came to this. With your cousin. I am sorry it is making you unhappy."

Silence.

A fear grows in your gut, a fear similar to sending a soldier to their death because of your order, a certain doom that you have never felt befor-

Carla begins to laugh, a boisterous, exuberant laugh, and when you whip gaze over to her she is practically glowing.

Your vision refocuses, the glare from the mirror up above shift away, and you can see the relief, the actual joy on her face.

> [Cont.]
>>
Still you are confused. "What, was it something I said?" You ask as carefully as you can manage.

That sets her off into another fit of laughter, and you decide to keep silent until she is finished.

As Carla's laughs die down and she begins to let out tiny hiccups, she tries to speak again. "No, no, Lieutenant, you're sweet, too sweet." She giggles. "I just never thought I'd hear one of you Republic apologize, and so sincerely too!"

You can only look at her as she talks. "No, you are perfectly fine. I'm not distraught because of crazy Chrys." She gives you a bright smile. "I just have family on the other side, you know? Anyway, let's not talk about me any more." She locks her eyes with yours. "I want to know more about you, co-man-der." She emphasizes each syllable with a slight twang to her voice.

"So tell me." She pulls off the blanket on her with a flourish, sending the white sheet fluttering to the ground, and she pops up to a sitting position directly across from you. You have to look up to meet her gaze, your eyes tracing up the small white smock covering her body. Carla looms over you, a smile peaking out over the corner of her mouth that makes you inavertantly gulp.

"How long have you been fighting?"

You immediately respond. "3 days today."

"Only three days?" She tilts her head to the right with a quizical look. "You aren't like any of the others new to the fight."

What does she mean? "Can you ex-"

"Tell me," She talks over you. "What's your favorite thing in the whole wide galaxy?"

You stop yourself from saying the first thing that comes to mind.

Interesting results. You are politely declining the offer to walk around a muddy, waterlogged military base with a woman who nearly died just this morning.

Instead, you will talk about holovids, and how you were bred to protect the Republic.

Not the idea of democracy, mind you.

“No." You say, firmly. Before she can say anything more, you continue.

"Well." You formulate your answer in your mind. You have a duty to fulfill, and your entire life has been in preparation to achieve it. There are lives depending on your ability to make decisions.

Is that really your favorite thing in the galaxy though?

"I want to say fighting to defend the Republic with my brothers, fighting and leading men is literally what I was born to do." You can see the curiosity drain from her face, and in an act of desperation you quickly add on, "I also really liked holovids when I was back on Kamino."

You see the decline of interest halt before skyrocketing, a bubbly excitement boiling over. "Really?" Giddiness makes her speak fast. "Holovids? I loved watching those! Oh, tell me, what's your favorite? I always loved the one about the old Jedi in the Republic years and years ago, you know the one that took place after the Mandalorian wars, and the love story between the Sith baddie and the strict Jedi knight. I loved how they had to work together to stop another Sith from taking over the galaxy! They were always so cute together, with him teasing her all the time."

You raise your hands in surrender. "I, well, I have not seen that one. I do not know any of the names of what I watched, I always, uhm," You rub the back of your neck. "I always snuck into one of the Kaminoan scientist's room to watch them, and I never knew what the titles were."

"No way." Carla says. "You, being sneaky? I thought you would've been all," She shifts her voice to a generic manly tone. As she talks, she is pantomiming holding a long object in one hand while running one hand up and down its length, starting from near her shoulder all the way down to her thigh. "I have to polish my rifle every night so I can get me some droids!"

"Yeehaw, oh, hello there fellow brother with a large rifle, do you want to clean rifles together? I can help you if you need it!"

She changes her voice and turns her head to the opposite side, signifying a different 'man.' She still holds her arms out the same, though the hand that is moving is doing so more rapidly. "Why of course brother, all I dream about is killing droids! I can't wait to use my rifle on them!"

You find yourself laughing at Carla's impressions. "Right, no, I knew a number of troopers that were always focused on cleaning their blasters."

"Wait," Carla breaks character. "You mean some of you actually talk that way?" She giggles. "What, I bet they help each other polish their rifles." She gets a distant look to her eyes as her smile grows broader.

"Well," You say. "We had nothing else to do but train for fighting."

"So, hold up," Carla's attention whips back to you. "Why were you watching holovids? I bet you and some of your buddies were sneaking off to," She interrupts herself with a giggle that turns into a slight hiccup. "Polish your rifles in that room, am I right?"

You simply look at her. Carla, when she sees your lack of reaction, stops her laughter and looks at you, concerned.

--

You blink.

You refocus on Carla in front of you, who is saying, "-rry I didn't mean it, it was a joke just stuff I heard you know please don't be mad at me."

You blink again.

What were you talking about? Why would you be mad at her? You had come to check up on a fellow soldier, in prep for the mission tomorrow.

Come to think of it, you do not have a position lined up for her once Phi returns to duty. Besides, she is a local, one who has proven her abilities.

She also saved your life.

You churn your mind to remember what the mission for tomorrow is, what you planned on doing-

Ah, right.

"Carla," You say. She jolts up as you begin to talk. She really is a jumpy one, good reactions at least, if untrained. You could probably help her in that regard. "Tell me, do you know anything about the pirate occupied Fort Dawaq?"

She stares at you for a moment. She really can be an odd one sometimes, you decide.

She blinks as realization dawns on her. "Dawaq? Near Termat, right? Yeah, I know there! When my daddy was in the navy that was where we lived when I was a little girl. I, well." Her mood drops as she struggles to continue. "I, uhm, I was there when the pirates landed. I remember the one who led them, if you want me to tell you?"

You nod. "Yes, any information is vital for the success of our mission."

Carla sighs as she says with disgust, "Well, alright Lieutenant. Her name is Vrii Insuntt, real nasty one. What, are you planning on retaking the fort? I can get in there, I know all the tunnels that burrow through that mountainside. I just need to be back there to remember the entrances, that's all."

You see the hope gleam in her green eyes. Tunnels underneath the fort? Those could be incredibly useful to use in your attack.

You are proud when you smile at her, capturing and billowing the hope inside of her. "Yes, Carla. We are moving to take out the entire pirate enclave."

She smiles back at you. Confidence mixed with a tad of vicious glee peeks through. "And I would be more than happy to fight alongside you to clear them out."

Or discussing that B1 Quest that someone has to run for us.

>>44757785
I liked the idea one anon brought up of putting a dash of red covering our former wounds, and then a list (or some other recording method)of names of soldiers under our command gone KIA or MIA

>>44757900
"We wear many names."
>>
>>44758048

Well I would actually be down for the idea, we'll just need to use really tiny script except for the people that were part of our vehicle crew, they get room on the helmet
>>
>>44758116
Or instead of names, put the symbol of our battalion (if it has one) and maybe a date?
>>
>>44758169

But our battalion is still alive, and it would be rude to put down a death date when there are still survivors. Maybe if we were the very last one but not with originals still around. I like the idea of us being painted up and maybe even using different ink colors on different names so we can still form the patterns we want. From a distance we look as painted up as Crusader and then when people get close they realize we are a walking headstone
>>
>>44758169
Nah, I like the idea of names. And the idea of just micro-printing them so whatever design we have are the names of the lost.

Does mean we'd have to wait until we screwed up again to have a neat design, but the point still stands.
>>
>>44758226
>inb4 gravedigger already has this armor
>>
>>44758226
No, like put the symbol for every death, not just one big one, but one for every dead soldier and then the date of death
>>
>>44758414

What if we put the symbol next to the name? I am sure that other battalions will have similar names to our own and that would be a way to differentiate them. Plus depending on the shape of the symbol we start getting put together like a Seurat painting
>>
>>44758570
Now there's an idea, and that way, if for some reason we get attached to another battalion, we can record their names too
>>
>>44758570
Also, holy shit that's a lot of dead, imagine how old, salty and grizzled we will be by that point
>>

>>
>>44758716
Probably our programming.

>>
In terms of strategy, would it be a better idea to attack from the tunnels before or after you attack from the outside?

The artillery will be manned if you attack from the outside first, but it'll reduce casualties from inside and the guns won't be as effective when they're distracted by the attack.

On the other hand, if you focus their fire on a sacrificial assault from the tunnels, the outside will be unprepared for the main force. Could be a use for 6th battalion if they turn out crazier than expected.
>>
>>44758863
Having the attacks happen near simultaneous seems like it would be the best plan, by that I mean while the base scrambles to repel the outside attack, have our tunnel attack spring into action. If we time it just right, just as the fort gets its guns to bear outside, the tunnelers will spring forth and attack from the inside
>>
>>44758913

I like this one
>>
>>44758913
Or better still, you could open fire on the defenders as they try to man the guns.

Have some spotters in the tunnel team to relay co-ordinates for our heavy guns and we should really cut down our losses

> 6th Battalion
It is 6th Platoon, as in 6 squads of 5 clone troopers, a total of 30 troopers in all. You command also includes your AT-TE, and the newly crewed TX-130.

Major Bandit has roughly 390 scout troopers under his command, 3 companies. This includes about 70 BARC Speeders, 20 ISPs, and 60 AT-RT walkers. The remaining 240 are infantry.

In total, there will be 429 clone soldiers (Including yourself) with next to no armor being sent on a mission to clear out roughly 60 square kilometers filled with warring bands of space pirates.

At least you will have a regiment from the Loyalists in support, with 120 AT-RCTs being fielded for battle, with the possibility of additional light armor getting "Procured" in the future. I just wanted to put some solid numbers on the forces you will have.

For all the discussion of "Heavy guns:" The Mass Driver cannon is the only weapon you have that can act as long range precision fire support. The TX-130 is designed for use as a mid-close range tank with high maneuverability, generally meant to be used in conjunction with infantry. A missile barrage is definitely something that can be done, but it may cause severe damage to the Fort and the Anti-Air cannons within, which you have been explicitly told to capture with as little damage as possible.

The possibility of a steady stream of reinforcements seems unlikely, especially because you will be fighting on a front that is essentially a side operation to the main war going on across the continent with 5 highly defensible Forts spread out through the region. Though, that does not mean that "recruiting" additional forces to your company will not be impossible in the future, just that it may be somewhat unorthodox.

Simoltaneous or near-simoltaneous, for sure. If we had a squad or two of Commandos I'd say that it'd be good for them to infiltrate ahead of time, and disable any heavy artillery at about an hour before the assault. What we actually have is a bunch of ARC troopers, about a Platoon of which can fit inside our AT-TE as mechanized infantry.

Any forces being led through the tunnels ought to time their attack to co-incide with ours. If ours starts at a pre-designated time, they can start theirs at T+5-10m. That's about enough time for the defenders to realize that we're attacking and commit to a response. Once they commit, our flankers come out of the tunnels and start doing their thing. I'd recommend a platoon-strength force going through the tunnels - Probably Major Bandit or his second-in-command.

Remember this: Scout Troopers are not ARC troopers. Treat them as an intermediary between the two, a step up from your rank and file clone trooper (6th Platoon) but not as elite as the ARCs.

They can be used in stealth op/recon situations, but don't expect a handful of them to succeed to the level that the ones in the Umbara arc of TCW did.

Also, you do not know what might be in those tunnels at this point in time. Carla's information should be treated with caution, because, as the holovids showed you time and time again, pirates love their caves.

>Scout Troopers are not ARC troopers
I always thought it went like this, from least-robust to most-robust:
POG troopers (Quartermasters, Chefs, etc.)
Regular Troopers (Line Infantry, Demolitions, Anti-Tank, Vehicle Crew, etc.)
ARC Troopers (Elite line troops, like clone troopers but better. Ex. Captain Fordo and his platoon)
Clone Commandos (Special forces, deployed by squad on special assignments. Ex. Delta Squad)

...Oh my mother fuck. Major Bandit's company is fucking light infantry. Tanith First-And-Only types.

Basically exactly that. Bandit's boys are good men, don't be mistaken. Just be sure to not overestimate their abilities.

They do have a decent number of antiarmor troopers, though they wield RPS-6s instead of the heavier PLX-1s. Here's an analogy: think of the RPS-6 is like bazooka with a higher explosive yield, while the PLX-1 is like a modern Javelin missile launcher just without the top down fire pattern.

Bandit has roughly 40 troopers with RPS-6s.

No actual story content tonight, I apologize. I can continue providing information such as this, but for whatever reason I cannot get "into" the characters right now. Their voices aren't speaking to each other in my head, you might say.

I thank you for your patience. Feel free to ask one of those questions you will likely never find out in character about any of the other characters if you would like.

Being mistaken for Line Infantry is the bane of every Light Infantryman's existence.

What did Carla do before the war?

Will the lieutenant ever figure out the real meaning behind the name Jinx?

He does his duty to the Republic, as any trooper should.

As a Private, Jackpot was able to gain access to classified training reports of clone troopers normally reserved for officers higher in rank than you. Saying anything more would be spoilers.

Carla is the child of a military family, and was raised around the military until she was around 10 when the pirates took over Fort Dawaq. After that she and her older sister were taken in by her Aunt for reasons and ended up getting trained as a mechanic by her Uncle along with her cousins.

Years later, she was on her way to an honest living when Stratus declared Jabiim a Separatist planet and the political conflict between the Nationalists and the Loyalists sparked into a full blown civil war. Her family was split along party lines, and her older sister ran off to fight for the Nationalists. In the years leading up to the war the sister had married a military man and they had a child together that Carla never met, only heard about occasionally.

Carla has not had contact with her sister or brother in law since the war began.

Only if you believe, Anon.

Feel free to keep the questions coming.

Also, here is a blank icon template if anyone wants to help make some for my use in future maps.

If you want, think up custom ones for units you know, such as Old Man, Bandit, 6th Platoon, etc.

Did CT-42/458 watch any holovids that did have smugglers in them?
>>
>>44762473
Yes he did. Most of the protagonists were smugglers of the honorable-but-down-on-their-luck variety generally fighting against the scum of the galaxy to rescue a damsel or steal back ancient treasure. Think basically space Harrison Ford's career in the adventure genre, because most vids had the same primary actor.

The Kaminoan was obsessed with the actor and, while using her connections in the Republic, had been trying to arrange a date with him for years.

He never watched anything to do with Jedi or Sith, so all he knows are the references made in the movies and his training/education.

Some of CT-42/458's fondest memories were sneaking away in the night to watch the holovids.
>>
>>44762668
...actually, I meant didn't have any smugglers in them, but is awesome. I was actually hoping we'd go more Holovid back in the beginning so Jinx could be Reels instead, quoting movies and acting like he's a holovid hero and shit.
I hope she manages to get that date, one day.
The opening decisions of the quest were actually pretty important for CT-42/458's character. It was deciding who/what the MC relies on. You all went down the route of Professionalism that pays mind to the authority of your superiors though in the end relies on the self.

Other possibilities, such as taking off your helmet, would have prompted a conversation with Phi. Talking to Sparks would have reinforced a reliance on the structure of the military. The MC's back story was in a state of flux in the beginning, mainly because it was being influenced by your all's actions.

Though some things would have been there regardless, and not what you expect.

By conversing with Phi, you could have gone down the route of Reels because CT-42/458 would have been a more sociable clone, participating more than his current state of acting more as an, ahem, observer to his crew's interactions.

He is the Commander, and Commanders must be able to be relied upon by everyone underneath him. The Commander should be able to stand against adversity so that his subordinates can draw courage and resolve from the Commander's actions and decisions.

Perhaps one day she will have a magical night with a dashing holovid star. One day.

I likely won't be writing until Tuesday anyway, I have to prepare to get back for the beginning of the semester. Also, from what I understand, I think it may have been an accidental misarchival rather than a malicious one.

I will take your advice, though.

>>44764444
No actually, he was laughing at Carla's parody, although he did not understand the innuendo involved. He had met many a clone with that hyperfocus on killing Separatists to the point that that is literally all they talked about.

No, what he responded to was the thought of interacting directly with his brothers.
