You are Tsukuda Ryouta, a Shinigami of the 12th Division, an investigator of abnormal occurrences.

You are searching for a spiritually aware human in Berlin with the ability to use Kido. In your first few hours here, you've encountered several oddities, one of whom is Kirino Moeka, the Shinigami in charge of keeping the local area safe. She's told you about a bizarre series of murders that left the police completely befuddled, though you soon figured out the reason for their helplessness - the culprit isn't a human, but a Hollow that's holed itself up inside the mansion where the bodies keep getting found.

As for your main objective, you've largely just started on it. You don't have a concrete trail to follow yet, so you're forced to pursue things that are not guaranteed to be relevant to your true goal. You are currently investigating the houses of the murder victims; they were all killed by the same Hollow, whose apparent motives are the same as yours, so there might be something to it. The things you're meant to be looking for in their flats are vague and largely undefined, so you're left to rely on your intuition and luck. You don't see any apparent link between them, even after some hours of inspection; just as it was written in the police reports, there doesn't seem to be anything connecting the women to one another.

Something eventually does manage to catch your eye in the house of the latest victim, on one of the photos hung up on a wall. You think it takes place in an amusement park. A young man is depicted there, though he isn't the main focus of the picture, but rather, he is waiting in the background with a sour expression on his face for the Faust family to take their photo, you recall seeing the same person in another photograph in the house of the 19 year old victim, Jessica Derrick. That photo had the victim taking a picture with her female friend, who was trying to drag this boy into the frame.

The youngest victim was probably friends with this person, whoever he is. But why is he cropping up here, in a completely unrelated family?

You're able to determine that they're the same person even though their ages are fairly different between the two photos, with this one being taken several years before the other one, while Moeka can't even recall the photo you're comparing it to. The redhead nods her head a few times, but it still doesn't seem like she gets it.

"So... Ryouta-kun, if they really are the same person, what does that mean?" She asks.

"It means there's a connection between the victims." You explain. It's a very vague connection, but it's there, involving at least two of the victims. Knowing this, there might be more links to be made...

"...I see. So what does that mean?" She's still not following you. Well, you're actually still speculating. Until you find concrete proof, that's all you can really do.

"It might mean that the Hollow's targets weren't random."

"You're saying they revolve around this guy you found?" Moeka's eyes grow sharper as she finally begins to properly inspect the young man in the photo you're holding.

"I can't be sure yet." You say. If Moeka's right, this person could be the human that Hollow is looking for, and by extension, the human that you're looking for as well. However, without a name, there's no way to investigate this guy.

The redhead sighs, looking rather tired. "So, the next thing is... You said you wanted to look into that company that fell apart, right, Ryouta-kun? I could-..."

She interrupts herself, her ears twitching. You hear a noise coming from the entrance - the sound of keys turning inside a lock. You turn the lights of in an attempt to conceal your presence here, and then you step back towards the middle of the room; a human won't be able to see you, even if it wasn't for the pitch black darkness. Who'd come here at a time like this? It's hardly even morning.

In enters a woman wearing a pair of round glasses, her brown hair tied into a long braid. While her thick coat, gloves and scarf are befitting of the season, there seems to be an emphasis on the color black in her choice of clothing. The woman carefully closes the door behind her and sneakily tiptoes into the room you and your partner have just finished investigating. When she flicks on the lights, she nearly shrieks in surprise.

"W-what? Who are you?" The woman asks. You and Moeka briefly exchange glances. She seems to be thinking the exact same thing.

You make a swift gesture with your arm, and, as you yell the name of the very first spell in the Bakudo repertoire, the woman gasps, realizing that she has not only lost control of her arms, but that they're moving of their own accord. With the air leaving her lungs, any sort of resistance fades completely - her limbs slam violently against each other behind her back, gravity conspiring against her to force her to the floor. She gasps some more and writhes in her uncomfortable position, but it's no use.

She has no chance of escaping now - even if she is capable of countering Sai, any attempts at it will be noticed, and she will be cut down before she gets a move.

"This could be our guy..." Moeka says, her sword already out of its sheath and resting on her shoulder. The woman looks up in terror at the sharp weapon.

"Who are you?" You ask in japanese first, then in german. The latter language prompts a response.

"I-I'm Melanie. A reporter! P-please don't kill me!" Melanie's voice is a strained mixture of squeaking and whispering.

"What are you doing here?" You step a bit closer to her, your hand on the hilt of your sword. Moeka could be right in her assumption, so you need to be on guard.

"I'm..." She swallows, adjusting herself on the floor so that her chin isn't smacking against it as she speaks. "I'm investigating the Kramer mansion murders..!"

"Why?" You ask. 'Kramer mansion murders' is probably what the locals are calling the crimes. But isn't something strange about that name?

"Be-because... T-they locked up an innocent man!" The reporter desperately exclaims. "I know that he didn't do it! I know that it was actually a monster!"

She must be talking about the Hollow, just without knowing the proper term for it. She can see you and Moeka, so she should be able to see the Hollow as well. This is highly unusual, but it's not as though spiritually aware humans are unheard of. She's clearly one of those types, though it doesn't mean that she's aware of how the spiritual world works; maybe she doesn't even know that you're spirits, but just swordsmen wearing black robes. It's likely that even the magician you're looking for has only scraps to work with, which might be something to make use of in the near future.

There is nothing to be done with a human possessing the capacity to perceive the spiritual. But the trouble here is that this 'Melanie' could be the magician, just hiding it well.

"P-please don't hurt me. I won't tell anyone that you were here! N-not that anyone would believe me, anyway..."

Also for anyone picking up the new Bleach mobile game released yesterday if you get a 3+ star character besides Chad for your first shop character, then do the event and draw a 3+ star character from that, keep playing.

If you keep deleting the game (unlinked) and rerolling until you get a 5 star from either of those you will be at it for days if you're unlucky. Shit takes forever to download. Just pick up something you're satisfied with and chill.

on that note even after getting the 10 character pack special deal from saving up the in game premium currency I am still without Gin and that upsets me quite a bit.

How long have you been investigating the murders? What can you tell us about them?" You ask. You also wonder why the 'Kramer mansion' is still called the 'Kramer mansion', even though it was owned by someone else.

"I've been investigating ever since I found out that the monster is responsible. I realized that innocent people were getting blamed for it, so I decided to see what I could do. I think it was a few days after the second victim... I've always managed to find something for those people to latch on to, and it worked out. The police, especially that detective - are furious with me. So if I get caught now..." Melanie shivers at the thought, as much as her position allows her to. She's probably here at such an ungodly time in an attempt to avoid any attention, especially from the police, though that could very well have the opposite effect if she were to make a mistake.

"Do you know why the Kramer mansion is called that?" You ask her. She lifts a brow, confused at the question, as if to say, 'shouldn't that be obvious?'

"It's owned by that family. The Kramers. I think they're businessmen or something." She says.

"But it was sold off recently, wasn't it?"

"Well, I... didn't really look into that place too deeply," She says. "The place was hijacked by a monster, and that's all I know."

"What's she saying?" The redhead asks, looking very lost amidst the back-and-forths at a level of german that she is incapable of processing. Melanie looks worried. The unfamiliar speech must be bothering her even more. You briefly retell to Moeka what has been said so far. "Oh. Is the guy who's in jail her dad or something?" You translate the girl's question for the woman on the floor.

(1/2)
>>
>>44792811
"No, we're not related." She responds. Melanie did say that her investigation started with the second victim, not the current one.

"I think she wants to know your reasons for doing this." You think that's what Moeka intended with the question. Rivulets of sweat trickle down Melanie's forehead as she ponders the question for a moment, her uncomfortable position taking a toll.

"Well, o-of course I don't want to see an innocent person get convicted of something they didn't do!" She says, but when you translate it for your partner, she shoots the floored reporter a mocking smile. Moeka isn't buying that at all. That suspicious glare makes Melanie swallow loudly before continuing.

"A-and, uh... I-I was hoping that I'd get something to prove that... that I'm not just a looney! Nobody's scared by the supernatural these days! Everybody looks at me funny when they find out that I'm running a magazine about the paranormal... It's... not really popular right now... S-so, I'm acting in both the name of justice and for a tiny bit of potential personal gain! There's nothing wrong with that, is there?!" Melanie steadily raises her voice as she speaks. Moeka frowns, prompting the woman to drop her defiant enthusiasm immediately. The german reporter proceeds in a much calmer tone.

"B-but, well, you know... If nobody could have done it, then people are ought to start thinking that something else did it, right? If I cover this topic, the sales would get a huge boost. And it's true this time... It's not just fear mongering, like some of my competitors do. I actually know what I'm talking about..." She continues, seeming almost proud of herself. But you're aware of the fact that, no matter how hard she might try to, she'll never prove the existence of the spiritual world to those incapable of perceiving it. And perhaps that's for the best. Either way, you won't point that out for her now. It's not relevant.

(2/3)
>>
>>44792873
You nod. Her motivation seems fair enough, unless she's lying. You crouch down and show her the photo, asking her if she knows the man in the background.

"Uh, no... I've never seen this guy..." She answers. When you stand up and turn to Moeka, explaining to her what was just said, Melanie suddenly starts whimpering, once again putting up a miserable struggle to separate herself from the floor, just for the sake of making herself more visible. "B-b-but I can look into it! I can help, I really can! I have a ton of connections, and getting info is my specialty!"

She seems to have gotten the wrong impression here, but...

It could be helpful. While Moeka might know the city layout, an actually living human might be able to get the information they need much quicker; they don't have to rely on luck by listening to the conversations of random strangers or hoping that the relevant bit of information is documented. And while she's out gathering data through those means, you can continue looking around into other places of interest.

But if Melanie isn't as innocent as she claims to be - if she is in cahoots with the magician, or the magician herself, it would quite obviously damage your investigation.

It's a risk, but the potential benefits are quite clear, too.

You accept her offer. Melanie lets off a relieved sigh, ceasing her pitiful struggles against the exaggerated forces of gravity by settling her head on the bare floor. For a short while, she doesn't even realize that the spell was lifted.

You explain the situation to Moeka, who only nods in acknowledgement. She doesn't voice her opinion on the choice you've made, still chewing the human out with a tense glare. When the young woman wipes the sweat tickling her forehead, she realizes that her limbs are free. You help her up to her feet. With an uncertain, nervous smile, she thanks you.

Melanie promises to look into the person on the photo, and also to check out the Kramers in more detail. You arrange for a meeting tomorrow at her house for her to share whatever results she gets, if any, and then the reporter takes her leave.

You soon step out into the cold winter air as well. The sun still hasn't risen; because of the season, it won't do so until the late morning.

"Ahaha, good work, Ryouta-kun, you got someone to do like half the work for us!" Without the human in sight, Moeka returns to her cheery self, looking quite happy about your decision. But as she's said herself, that was only 'half' the work - the other half still needs doing. "So, what else do you wanna do, Ryouta-kun?"

"We should look into the company that spirit told us about. If he wasn't exaggerating their misfortunes, other people must have noticed it as well. I think it's likely that the story made it to the news." You say. Moeka nods, and after a slight pause, lets out a long, loud yawn.

"Are you tired?" You ask.

"We've been at it for a while, Ryouta-kun. I'm tired and sleepy..." She mumbles pleadingly, placing her hands behind her head and absentmindedly fiddling with her hair tie.

"I could probably look into it on my own. You should rest if you need to." You suggest, but what you get in response is an unsatisfied pout.

"That's such an unfair thing to say..." Moeka mutters. "These investigations take forever. Like, hours! It's not like I want to sit around without doing anything all by myself... And besides, we had a deal, so if I agreed to something like that, I know you'd just-..."

A high-pitched beep interrupts her words. When the pattern of the noise becomes erratic, you realize that it's not just her Denreishinki that's going off - yours is ringing, too. You flip open your cellphone. The signal isn't coming from near here, but it's still on Moeka's territory - the very edge of it, in fact. It's not near the Kramer mansion or the houses of the victims. This could be an ordinary occurrence.

"A Hollow..." Moeka mutters, her cheery demeanor surrendering completely under the weight of her fatigue. "...Oh, come ooon!"

"I think I can handle a lone Hollow on my own, Moeka." You say, but the redhead stubbornly shakes her head, her ponytail swaying back and forth. She might not be able to handle it if she's tired.

"No way. I've promised you that I'd take proper care of this territory now. What would I look like if I backed out of it now, right? Let's just go get it over with!" She seems adamant about this. You can't really force her to rest; this is her territory to begin with, so her word overrules yours. Or, at the very least, an unspoken rule like that seems fair to you. "We're going on a date when we're done, okay?" She sticks out her tongue and hops off, leaving no window for a response. But you'll still need to investigate that company after dealing with the Hollow...

(1/2)
>>
>>44794833
You can look into the unlucky company later; if it has been written about in papers, then it's not going anywhere. You follow Moeka. You hope her fatigue won't get in the way.

...

A series of garages lines the street, all of their doors locked, except for one, which was busted open, the entire sheet of metal dented into uselessness and thrown out onto the road, quite a ways from its original placemet.

The gray-skinned beast resembles a hornless rhino, running about on four thick legs, its quadruped shape reaching about eight feet in height. It roars and rages about like an infuriated bull, wrecking and throwing signs, containers and anything else that it can collide its mass with, slamming itself aimlessly against the walls and garage doors, obstacles collapsing in the path of its rampage. Its circular mask covers the entirety of its head, obscuring its real shape. Its mouth seems unfittingly small for such a bulky creature, but its bassy volume still manages to be harsh on the ears.

There is little hope of punching through that mass of muscles in a direct fight, not without leaving someone vulnerable with a Kido preparation, but a blow to the back of the head will take it out all the same.

"Leave it to me, Ryouta-kun. I wanna get the bounty on that sucker!" The girl plants a hand on her hip and brandishes a cocky smile, tapping her shoulder with the blunt side of her sheathed sword. It seems that the idea of facing an active, simple threat has improved her mood a bit. You're not sure if you're qualified for the bounties on any Hollows you purify while on her territory, but it seems that Moeka doesn't want to take any chances.

You gesture for Moeka to wait just as she's about to jump away. She lets out a confused squeak, nearly trips over herself, but ultimately stops without giving herself away.

The Hollow isn't hunting for souls. This area is completely deserted. This isn't standard Hollow behavior. You think it's best to take analyze the situation fully before acting. The redhead still looks confused by the delay even after your explanation, but she stands still, drilling the would-be rhino with her eyes.

Eventually, the monster stops thrashing about. Its bulky form drops onto the snow covered ground, its small mouth letting off a cloud of steam with a prolonged exhale. Something's changed about it... about the way it feels. It's hard to say. Your sensory abilities aren't quite on par with your five senses. This felt similar to breaking out of a Bakudo bind, but it's hard to determine anything concrete at a glance like this.

>???
>An ability that forcibly instills the will of the user into the target. Spiritual in origin; further classification impossible. More data required.

"A-Ah, it's getting away!" Moeka gasps. The Hollow's mouth bites into the air, tearing apart reality as though it were a curtain of soft fabric. The girl tries to get her composure in order and pounce the beast, but it's gone while she's tumbling with the sheath of her sword. "Aw! My bounty..! This is the worst!"

Although it left without a fight, your fellow Shinigami doesn't seem happy about it. Well, you can't chase the Hollow, so there's nothing else to be done with it.

(1/2)
>>
>>44796148
You instead propose taking a look around, and while that does nothing to improve your partner's mood, you do find something after some searching - inside one of the garages, the one with its door turned into a tangled piece of scrap, instead of a vehicle, there is a large cage there, fit for keeping a Hollow of that size. The bars are chewed on and bent out of any functional shape; the Hollow must have forced its way out. This seems strange at first - why would a spirit go through so much trouble to get out of a physical cage? - but the paper tags adorning the cage provide something of an explanation.

Moeka, having shown no interest during the search, has her eyes spark up at the sight of them. "Those are Kido tags! Similar to the ones I'd seen. Exactly the same..! Just with different symbols on them. No, actually, some of these are identical..."

This is bizarre. Why would anyone lock up a Hollow like this? How would they even manage such a thing? Even with barriers, a Hollow can still open a Garganta to make its escape.

The redhead seems disturbed at the thought. "Hey, what if our guy has a whole zoo of Hollows like this? A-and if he finds out that we're looking for him, what if he..."

...It's a scary thought. So this is what the Kramer mansion Hollow must have meant by 'lackeys'. And if his precise wording is anything to go by, there's more than one.

Understanding the urgency of the situation, Moeka helps you look through the rest of the garages. You don't find anything else of the sort.

"So... What do we do now, Ryouta-kun?" Moeka asks. She really does look tired, but she's now trying not to seem that way.

"Also... We should notify Soul Society of what we've discovered here. If there really is a hidden storage of Hollows Hollows within the city, we should have backup available in case they're set loose." You take out your Denreishinki to do exactly that. Moeka's expression glooms over again.

"Ryouta-kun... But if we do that, we won't get the bounty." She says, just about completely dejected.

"I doubt they'll actually send anyone until we can confirm it." You try to reassure her, but a complicated sigh leaves her thoughts on the matter vague.

This search might take a while...

...

Moeka diligently picks out potentially relevant papers for you to read through, her fight against drowsiness reminding you of Melanie's fight against your spell. She dozes off on your shoulder every now and again. The library's moldy air is easily overpowered by the pleasant scent of her beautiful crimson hair. You have the materials you need, so you let her rest.

Your investigation confirmed what that spirit had told you. A pharmaceutical company had one day suddenly began to have consistently heinous luck in their affairs: freak accidents in spite of an incredibly safe work environment; goods that never made it to their destination; equipment that kept breaking; new drugs mysteriously disappearing...

People were losing jobs, the company - money. With their kind of reputation, no one was willing to lend them a hand, and they were forced to spend their own funds on mitigating damage and pleasing disgruntled and fearful employees. The company's fate was decided by their leader's death, and it collapsed for good. It was a complete disaster. Everyone related to it was considered to be nearly a pariah, carrying with them bad luck. Several suicides of ex-employees followed, as they were unable to find new jobs.

There were stipulations of sabotage, presumed to have most likely been caused by competitors, but there was never any proof. One of those competitor companies belongs to the Kramers, whose business was doing poorly until those streaks of misfortune. It's that name again.

When you set the paper you've been reading aside, it's already daylight out. It's been a few hours. It's still a day too early to visit Melanie. Soul Society is ready to deploy reinforcements if you ever believe that there's a need to. But you'll have to be careful with that - if you call it over nothing, you won't only lose the reward you'd get for capturing him on your own, but potentially the magician himself, if he becomes aware that he's being looked for.

You think you've looked at all the trails you had for now. Is there anything else that you can investigate on your own?

>Rest until tomorrow.

Even we need rest, and moving without our partner at the moment will probably not end well, if the current level of foes we are looking at seem to be any indication.

I think this is a decent place to end the thread for tonight! We're not quite at mission end yet, so maybe I was a bit optimistic in thinking that we'd end it here, but tomorrow we might! Maybe!

Next thread is up for tomorrow (for real this time!), but keep an eye out on twitter for anything unexpected:

If you have any feedback or questions, please shoot them my way!

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for running.

I imagine we have enough information to tell what's going on. Too tired to lay out my paragraphs though. Good night.

I think you're doing that thing where you overestimate your audience's intelligence again.

Keep missing them due to work.

Advise: dont be afraid to go about describing things a bit more. It feels Like a lot of things happen between posts and it's handwaved, likewise there doesn't seem to be much interacting ity just yet.
