You could be damned.

By the time Marissa gets back to the shop, you've learned enough Enochian to spell a few simple words. Things like "praise", "the", and a few names of Gods.
"I'm back," she says. "Did any customers come in?"
"A couple," you say. "We sold a few crystals and one book. Crowley, Book of Lies."
"That's better than nothing."
"So, any news from town square?"
"I've got some pictures." She rummages through her purse and takes out her phone. "Take a look."
You examine the pictures. One is clearly a sigil, and from what you've seen, it looks like Baal's. There's writing as well. You start flipping through your book on Enochian.
"It's a symbol of Baal. The writing is clearly Enochian, it's some kind of declaration of war."
"Well that's spooky, but I don't see anything linking it to Jacob."

>"I told you that Jacob was possessed by Baal. It's obviously him."
>"It might not be him. Look at this." [Show her the business card you were given.]
>"You're right. Probably just some kids playing a trick."

"It might not be him. Look at this." You retrieve the business card and show it to her.
"Ordo Templi Daemonium? Sounds like a joke."
"A man stopped in here and gave me that. He said he was looking for the Book of Asmoday, and that his group might be able to help Jacob."
"You talked to him about Jacob?"
"No, it came out of nowhere. He knew, somehow."
"Okay. Fine. I believe you. What now?"

"Is that smart? Isn't the whole problem that you and Jacob performed a ritual and it went out of hand?"
"This is going to be different. I'm going to do this alone and follow the instructions to the letter."
"You don't even know where that book came from."
"It doesn't matter where it came from. Obviously it's important if people are after it."
"At least bring me with in case anything goes wrong. It's not like I know nothing about magick."
You stop to consider her request. She's right, she's not new to this, and she might be able to help. At the same time, you wouldn't want to put her at risk. And if Jacob shows up to the ritual site while you're doing it, both of you might die. Tonight is the new moon, the moonless night written in the Book of Asmoday, and you would have to perform the rituals tonight, or wait another month.

>"Fine. We're doing it tonight."

"You can come with, but only to warn me if Jacob shows up."
"Fine, then let's close shop."
Closing the shop isn't a long process. You take the profit from the register and place it in a safe in the back room, the contents of which are deposited in the bank once a week. Then you shut off the lights and lock the doors. Marissa writes down the inventory that was sold so that it can be re-ordered.
Then Marissa drives you to your place. You invite her down to the basement that you're renting. She looks around, amused by the sigils you've drawn and carved all over the place.
"Your landlord's gonna freak out," she says. It's probably true.
"I live in a basement with no windows. It's illegal to rent out a room with only one way in or out, fire hazards, yadda yadda. So I don't really care if he freaks out."
You sit her down on your couch and retrieve the Book of Asmoday, flipping to the page with Asmoday's sigil on it.
"It says that the sigil has to be put onto the skin before the ritual can be performed." You pull out your ritual dagger.
"Holy shit, dude. I know a guy who owns a tattoo shop, why don't we just go there?"
You glance at your watch. It's still 7 hours until midnight, so you probably could get it tattooed if he'd do it as a walk-in. Then again, if he screws up the tattoo, you're fucked.

>"No time." [Take off your shirt and start engraving.]
>"That's probably a smart thing to do."

"No time." You sure wish that you had some painkillers.
When you take off your shirt and Marissa seens the symbol of protection you've carved into yourself, she ghasps. Oh, yeah. She never saw that before. The wound has closed now, but there's definitely going to be a scar.
You hand her the ritual dagger.
"Try not to hurt me too bad," you say, bracing yourself.
"Just let me focus," she says. She puts the tip of the dagger against the point on your right arm just below the shoulder.

At first, the pain is terrible, but soon you start to get used to the pain. After a few minutes, she's finished, and she presses a cloth to your skin to stop the bleeding.
"All done," she says. You look at it. It looks exactly like the picture on the page.
"Thanks," you say.
You look down. The seal of protection has disappeared, as if it was never there.

"Marissa, look at this." You point to the blank spot on your chest.
"That's weird as hell. Maybe allying yourself with a demon destroyed it?"
"It's possible. What should I do?"
"Do you have a sharpie?"
You walk to your room and grab a sharpie.
"Here you go." You hand it to her. "What's your idea?"
She draws the symbol of protection on your shirt. It doesn't look faded. You check your arm, and the symbol of Asmoday is in place.
"Thanks," you say.
"So what rituals are you going to do from here?" She asks, pointing at the book.

>I'll open my mind to demonic forces and find a solution.
>I'll use the cleansing and banishing ritual to exorcise Jacob from afar.
>I'll need to let a servant of Asmoday possess you for conversation.

"I'll using the cleansing and banishing ritual to exorcise Jacob from afar."
"Are you sure that's going to work?"
"It's our best option right now."
You already have a symbol of Asmoday carved into your skin. You're in no big hurry to put yourself in more danger my summoning him or taking his power into your own body.
And if this works, everything should turn out alright.
"So, what do we need for it?" Marissa asks.
"I need Abramelin oil, the bone of a lamb, a brass vessel, a picture of Jacob, and a chicken."
"Okay, well, there's Abramelin oil and brass bowls at the shop. I've got a picture of Jacob. Why don't I go to the shop and get those while you get the animal stuff?"

How the hell are you going to find a chicken and a lamb's bone?
As you sit, wondering about how you might find these things, a voice calls to you.
"There is a farm not far from here. Go South and you will find it in under an hour."
The voice is totally unfamiliar. Do you follow its advice?

Leaving the house, you start walking South. There's no road to take you there; you must walk through the woods.
"Beware the creatures living in the woods. They seek you out."
Behind you, you hear some movement. Quickly, you glance over your shoulder. You see something that you didn't think actually existed.

Standing at the height of a horse -- and with the legs of one, as well -- is a centaur.

"If what you say is true, then why go to another demon for help?"
"Strike him down. He means to stop you. He is an illusion of the Duke of Bulls," the voice in your head booms.
"I don't have options," you respond. "My friend is in danger and I need a fast solution."
"You do not understand the dangers that you invite. A friend has sent me from far North. Come with me, and abandon this course of actions."
"Kill him," the voice booms. "Take up your dagger and slit his throat."

"By engaging with this demonic force, you only threaten the ones you care for and the world around you."
You turn and start to walk. The centaur follows.
"I cannot allow you to engage with this beast."
You turn to see him holding what looks like a bow and arrow made from concentrated, rushing air. "Take one more step away and I will shoot you down."
"Go to him. Cut open his throat," the voice booms.

"I thought you would make the right choice, human."
You walk over to the centaur and the ethereal bow and arrow disappears as he lowers his hands.
"Do I get on your back?" You ask.
"It would be the quickest way. As you said, your friend needs your help."
With his help, you get onto his back. That's when you unsheathe your dagger.
You've never killed a sentient being before. The blade is slightly resisted by his skin, but with a bit of force it breaks through. He ghasps as the blade slides across and opens his throat. Blood spews forth. It is deep and metallic looking.
He collapses to his knees and you step off and begin walking away. As you do, an ethereal arrow flies past you.
You turn to see the centaur, gripping his throat, with the ethereal bow in his hand. He struggles to stand, then falls. You watch for a moment as he coughs and bleeds out.
"Good, human," the voice booms.
"Shut the fuck up."

"In order to get what you seek, certain tasks must be performed. Give me what I want and you will have what you want. We demons are sealed by our deals."
After you continue walking for about ten minutes, you ask another question.
"Was he really an agent of Baal?"
"Directly? No. But were you to go with him, there would be no stopping the Duke of Bulls."

"There are many futures, mortal. In one of those futures you become a powerful sorcerer, and a good ally to have in this world. If you are in my service, we can work for mutual benefit."

By the time he's done talking, you find yourself at the edge of a picket fence. Beyond the fence is a herd of sheep. Beyond that, a barn. There are various animals, including chickens. A farmer is sleeping in a chair next to the barn.
"Now go in there. Take what you need. If the owner gives you any trouble, strike him down."

You remember something from the past, when you first started studying magick. An old magick, one with simple goals and simple methods. Low magick, the art of sorcerers and folk witches.

You raise your hands, sussing out the energy in the air. You penetrate deep into the mind of one sheep and one chicken. Subtly, you reach out to them, trying to convince them to come close.

>Roll 1d20.
1-10 = failure.
11-15 = chicken comes to you.

No. It would require three consecutive rolls of 1, anyway. That's highly unlikely.

As a result of your magick, a chicken and a lamb come over to you. The farmer remains asleep. You reach down with your ritual dagger and, with some effort, cut the foot off of the sheep. It bleeds, but does not make noise or resist. You wrap the foot in cloth and place it in your material bag, then pick up the chicken and then turn around to go North.
"That's not the way I would have done it, human, but it worked. Congratulations, your power is growing." Asmoday speaks in your mind.
"There was no need to harm the farmer. It would have been more difficult that way, anyway."
"How pragmatic."

"You're --" he ghasps "-- being deceived --" ghasp "-- human."

Well, you might never get this opportunity again. You take out an empty water bottle from your bag and collect as much centaur blood as possible. You'll put it in an air-tight container later.
You might have just killed the last of a species. Oh well. You did what had to be done.
Not for Asmoday; his influence had little to do with it. This is for Jacob. Maybe to save the world, if Baal means to start a war. And if Asmoday is right about the future, then maybe it was for you, too.
You continue North. It's time to perform the greatest ritual of your life.

>To be continued.
