The shattered streets and broken buildings of Metropolis lay out before you. You can see rescue workers, volunteers, survivors and scavengers scrabbling about, digging through the wreckage of what was once places of business or homes. The burnt out and torn carcasses of cars lay strewn about haphazardly among the remains of what was once Metropolis.

You were lucky.

Living in the Suicide Slums, not that you could afford to live anywhere else, you managed to avoid the worst of the Incident. But this....this is something else.

Your city is a burnt out shell of what it once was. And you might be, at least partially, responsible.

Your stomach feels like it's fallen clear out from your torso and dragged your heart along with it. Watching a young man struggle to break his way into a partially collapsed pawn shop, you consider just how the news outlets that are still operational are reporting this. How does this tragedy compare to the death of

Probably more shocking, but decidedly less tragic. If there's one thing you've learned in the last few years, it's that the world loves a story about a martyr. Half-hopping half stumbling, you make your way down the ruined street and soon find yourself walking among the few people not really doing anything. Besides moving about and staring astounded at the extent of the destruction, none of the people around you seem to be doing any one thing in particular. For some reason, that's even more unsettling than the people weeping over the rows and rows of carefully lain and covered bodies that lie at the distant intersection.

Grief is SOMETHING. But these people...they just seem totally lost.

You find yourself pitched forwards as you trip across a jagged chunk of cement that rises from the street like some sort of exposed bone. Stumbling away from the obstruction, you find yourself drawn to the intersection and you make your way over.

As more and more of the streets to either side of 32nd come into view, you regret your decision.

Bodies.

So many bodies.

Row, after row, after row of them stretch off into the distance. Bending at the waist, you place your hands on your knees and simply breath, attempting to make sense of what you're seeing. This is awful. This is even worse than that gore image you saw back in the 11th grade of

Ugh. You can still see that bubbly grey stuff leaking out of his nose, despite it having been years since you last clicked that image. Gore just does not have the same appeal when you move to a city filled with supervillains. Staring at your shoes and slowly breathing until you catch your breath, you steel your nerves before looking back up once more. Your eyes growing misty as you struggle to grasp at the numbers of dead, you realize that quite a few of them are very obviously metahumans. In fact, as your eyes wash over the bodies that aren't covered and the strangely shaped ones that are, you find yourself questioning just how many metahumans could there have been in Metropolis.

Well, sure, Metahumans make up a whole 7% of the world's population. But of those 7%, most aren't too different looking from your average person and most don't even have noteworthy powers. According to an article you read once, written by some guy named Chris Clark or Clark Kent or Clark Christenson or something, only about .5% of Metahumans have the capability to be threats to others.

Your thoughts are interrupted as a scream rents the air. Twisting and turning, you look for the origin only to see a young woman jumping up and down, pointing at a cracked radio/boombox.

“It's working! We're getting news!” she bellows excitedly. You rush over, suddenly eager to know more. You wonder if this will be as big a story as that time

It seems to be a radio host or a news anchor interviewing none other than Superman. The would-be savior of Metropolis....had he not been directly involved in the city's destruction twice. Seriously, people just love coming out of the woodwork to try and punch that guy into the dirt.

Distracted as you are listing off the names that have been attributed to Superman's previous combatants, you miss a good chunk of the interview. But you certainly don't miss the bit where Superman swears to find all those responsible for what he is dubbing 'The Phantom New Year'. You remember that time you saw Superman publicly beat another 'Kryptonian', whatever that is, into the ground on live television. Or the time he punched meteor into chunks and then promptly caught them all before they caused any major damage. Or the time he ripped the track off a tank and then helped the soldiers piloting it out before they got hurt, despite the fact that they'd been trying to kill him.

Superman is practically a god, and, apparently he's angry about what happened last night. So angry, he's passing on the mantle of defender of Metropolis.

Superman might be after you and you're just a

>STEADY INCOME
This is not a skill. It follows under 'Talents'. Unlike skills, Talents can be lost due to choices made in the quest.

This particular talent allows for the MC to make any sort of 'Income' Roll with a +3 Bonus, implying that the character regularly receives checks from some sort of employment or grant or something along those lines.

>PART OF THE NETWORK

This talent allows the MC to make any sort of 'nefarious activities' roll with a +2 Bonus or a +4, depending on whether or not the Network they happen to be a part of is directly involved. It implies that the character has, in some way, gotten involved with the darker, more morally questionable side of the DC Universe and has made enough connections to see their demands or inquiries met.

>SPELLCASTING

This talent allows the MC to cast spells that he has learned. Sort of like a Wizard from D&D, except once you've memorized it, it stays there. Also makes it far easier to contact other worldly beings

The skills are pretty self-explanatory, but for those who would like an explanation

Athletics -Roll when the character is attempting to do something strenuous with their body i.e. Jumping a far distance, sprinting or maybe even Parkour

Con - Roll when the character is attempting to convince someone of something that is very distinctly not true.

Electronics - Roll when the character is attempting to operate electronics or software. Includes hacking

Hand to Hand/Weaponry -Roll when the character is attempting to hit another being that might defend itself. May be rolled against certain inanimate beings

Intimidation - Roll when the character is attempting to scare someone, either with their words or their actions

Investigation - Roll when the character is attempting to find out about something through snooping or the like.

Medicine -Roll when the character is attempting to heal or treat an injury.

Occultism - Roll when the character is dealing with magic or the supernatural
>>
Sorry that took so long folks; I forgot just how many junk I wrote for this particular part.

Please, take your time and read through things before making a choice

Also, keep in mind that the character may gain the chance to acquire powers or be 'Chosen' for something later on the quest, depending on what choices are made.

Deals with otherworldly beings. Losing whatever 'focus' the character happens to use.

In this particular version of the DC Universe, each mage instinctively chooses a 'Focus'. A medium through which they communicate their intent onto the universe.

Most use their voices or words.

i.e. Zatana and Constantine.

But, say, a mute mage might use his hands to make jibberish symbols and that would be just as valid, because his focus is those symbols.

So, the MC's default focus is words; he spouts a bunch of arcane sounding gibberish or words that mean something to him and magic happens. But if someone were to leave him incapable of speaking, he would have to work to regain the SPELLCASTING talent all over again because what he's been using to train all these years has been taken away.

You're just a surly, British chain smoker's former apprentice. How are you supposed to survive this? How are you going to tell your mom? How are you going to finish getting your credits for the year? Ho w

“long are you going to hog both of those armrests?” the girl asks, an eyebrow raised but her tone perfectly flat. Glancing down you realize you, somehow, managed to stretch your arm across both your own and the girl's. Muttering an apology, you move your arm back into position and begin taking your laptop from your backpack, which is between your legs.

Amazingly, it managed to survive a tumble from your bed during the....incident, a week and a half ago. You weren't sure what to do after hearing that radio show, so you did the only thing you knew how to do; you went back home and simply thought about all the times you did something embarrassing, awkward or just dumb all the while cursing yourself for being so inept.

Tapping at your mousepad to bring up your screen, you find your laptop still logged into your 'Flash Speed Buses!” account with your recent ticket purchase, the one you are now using, still open. It only made sense for you to purchase a bus ticket; you don't have the income to afford plane tickets, and though your first year is now free, you still need to save money if you are going to be attending college and staying in

B. Elliot University. Located in Gotham, it is, essentially, just a party school. However, the Wayne Family has a number of scholarships available and you have a fair shot of getting them

C. Take a year off and help Metropolis get back on it's feet. This is partly your fault.

D. University of Keystone. Has one of the best physics programs in the country and, apparently, very few super shenanigans. Perfect for laying low.

I really appreciate that everyone decided the city of Gotham was so lazy they'd just name their college Gotham U.

For a moment you consider your e-ticket to Gotham, taking note that it will take you literally days to get there. You briefly consider employing that last-ditch teleport spell your old teacher taught you, but then dismiss the thought. You can't afford a plane ticket let alone the medical bills a failed teleport spell might incur. For a moment, your screen goes dark as you switch over to a different tab and in the reflection, you can see the girl who you stole the armrest of staring intently.

Glancing out of the corner of your eye, you confirm that she is indeed watching you surf the net and for a brief moment you consider talking to her about it, but then you take note of her shabby, ill-fitting clothes. Of her complete lack of any carry-ons. This girl was either poor BEFORE the incident or became very poor directly afterwards. Either way, you want no part of the bad karma that might come about from hurting her feelings.

Turning to look the girl in the face, you are immediately struck by how...beautiful this girl is. Having been taught by a spellcaster, you are well aware of succubus and that 'beauty is in the eyes of the beholder', but this girl is objectively attractive, even in her technicolor sweater and puffy blue jacket. Her skin is golden brown, her hair long and black. For a moment, you're dumb struck, but then you regain your composure as she meets your gaze and you

So, I'm not quite sure how to handle this potential issue best; there doesn't seem to be much in the way of advice for QMs when it comes to it.

But, as I am a bit too busy trying to write responses to properly investigate, I'd like to ask you guys to refrain from posting multiple times with the intent of getting a particular result.

I understand that you may want a particular course of action taken or what not, but it detracts from others enjoyment of the thread and I'd really prefer that everyone who takes part in this has a good time.

So, I'm not accusing anyone, I'm just asking that if you are considering doing it, please reconsider.

I was kinda salty at the idea of having learned from John Constantine, who I think is kinda meh, but I got over it. Plus this is going better than I thought.

C: "Uh, hey. I'm Charlie, by the way" you say, offering a hand. The girl glances from your hand to your face and back. After a moment too long for you to feel comfortable, the girl takes your hand and gives it one curt pump.

A: "I am Adrianna" she continues to speak in that almost deadpan manner, her expression as stony as before. You smile at her and open your mouth to say something else, but it seems that Adrianna has no intention of stopping.

A: "It seems we are going to the same city, Charlie"

Blinking in surprise you blurt out

C: "You're riding all the way to Gotham to?" to which she gives a curt nod.

A: "I will require my armrest at all times; please refrain from taking it, as you did earlier"

You stare at her blankly for a moment before muttering "So, that's going to be a no for watching a movie on my laptop?" to which she promptly turns and stares at you. Her eyes seem oddly intense.

A:"What type of film will we be watching, Charlie?"

A. Action
B. A documentary on metahumans
C. A Documentary on archeology
D. An animated movie about a comic book character

By the time the intro for the film has concluded, Adrianna is all but draped across the armrest, eyes glued to the screen. Eventually, the two of you finish the first part of the documentary series and Adrianna leans back cooly into her seat, but she seems to be smiling slightly as she looks at you.

"My brother goes to school there. We could not go at the same time, but now, now we can. So that is why I am going to Gotham." Adrianna explains, her tone steady and while not lively, certainly less monotone than it had been only two and a half hours ago. "Why are YOU going to Gotham, Charlie?"
"I need something of a fresh start. I need to be a different Charlie, at least, for a while"

Adrianna looks at you before nodding slowly.

"That...that makes sense." she pauses for a moment, glancing at your laptop "Now please put on the next part of the series; I want to know about this forgotten pharoh".

Time to roll a Rapport check. In this case, it is being used to express how well Charlie does in conversation with Adrianna over the next two - three days that they become friends on their cross country trip to Gotham.

Stepping onto the curb, you take a deep breath in, savoring the smell of that hobo almost a dozen feet to the right of you. Ah yeah. If that ain't Gotham...

Adrianna steps away from the bus to stand beside you, a single, seemingly half-full duffle bag hanging from her shoulder. She taps you lightly on the arm and then holds out what appears to be one of those near unbreakable fliphones. You know the ones. The ones made by that Queen Industries subsidiary. NoQia.

Frowning, you take your own phone out and hold it out for her. She immediately takes it, turns the screen on and then promptly hands it back for you to unlock. A few minutes later, the two of you have each other's number. Well, would you look at that, you made your first friend here in Gotham. Now, it's time to go and meet your roommate. From what you can see, your roommate and you seem to live just off campus, considering both of you have the same scholarship which awards you free housing courtesy of Wayne Enterprises.

So, using public transit, you find yourself in front of your new place of residence, heart pumping. It's not exactly a huge mansion, but it does seem needlessly big for two guys, at least, from the outside. But all the same you walk up and knock on the door, expecting to be left waiting for at least a minute or two, instead, the door flies open almost as your knuckles are making contact. A raven haired young man shoots you a curt nod and a slight salute before bustling past you.

"Sorry I can't properly introduce myself; I'm your roommate Tim. We'll talk later" and with that, your roommate is gone and the house is yours, it seems.

I'll tell you right now. I chose randomly which rolls I would take.

I took 3 from >>44930116
I took 10 from >>44930131
and I took 4 from >>44930111

the 6 allows you to either take
MirOsis (Creates the illusion of dozens of Charlie's all about, doing different things. Works on electronics.)
or
Puroa (You create a false darkness that only fools living thing's senses. Cameras and other such electronics are, in no way, impeded)

the 3 allows you to either take
Cristili (Gives Charlie a glimpse of the most likely future. Only allows him to see, at best, three seconds ahead. Gives him massive headaches)
Or
Reveal (Renders effects that interfere with Charlie's perception of reality inert.)

The 10 I will tell you nothing about, as Charlie gets no say in this one.

The 4 allows you to either take
Bolrul (Hardens anything he maintains contact so as to turn it into a viable weapon)
Or
Wallo (Weakens anything Charlie hits with a sickly brown looking beam to render it incredibly fragile)
>>
>>44930486
