After discussing with Mileena the discovery he made at the Wellspring of Shun-Kuto and Turana's involvement in the dark events that transpired there, Kaito elected to return to Edenia. On top of searching for Captain Farragut, the leader of the pirates that have been terrorizing the coasts of Edenia's southern seas, Kaito is searching for the last two remaining shards of the Broken Goddess: Wind and Fire.

With Mileena's help, he has read passages from an ancient book on the subject regarding the goddess. She was one of the first dieties to appear in Edenia, one who helped shape and give life to the world, spreading the elements. It is said that she carved the mountains, wept the seas, blew the wind and forged the sun.

She was sundered by an ancient war between gods from various realms when the Elder God Shinnok fell from grace. Since then, she has existed in five forms, each trapped and lost in prisons of ice, stone, storm and lava. The fifth, one who became Decay, can only be freed from her current shell by being united with the other four.

There is a prophecy that speaks of the return of the Broken Goddess. When all four shards are freed and brought to Decay, their powers will unite for the first time in millennia and purify her. All five pieces will become one once more and the Goddess shall be reborn and bring about a new era for Edenia.

"And this is what you seek?" she asks as she pauses in her reading.

"Well, I wouldn't mind it," Kaito replies. "I helped bring Edenia back, and I've already freed two shards, so why not help bring back one of its gods?"

"There's also the power it will bring," Mileena reminds him.

"True, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want to get stronger," he replies. "I can still punch people, sure, but without my lightning... At least I still have the Staff of Raiden."

She closes the book and places it aside before leaning her head on his shoulder. "Power and strength don't always come from magic and weapons. If I didn't have my sai blades, I would still have my prowess in kombat. You still have the Bloody Hands. But what's more, you have this," she says, placing her hand over his heart. "This is where your true strength comes from. I didn't always know that, but I know it now."

Kaito looks into her eyes as she kisses him. He doesn't even mind the large fangs in her mouth or exposed cheeks anymore; he trusts her not to try to bite him. Despite her ferocity, she has been a wonderful lover, trusting in him as he does for her. So far their relationship has been one of mutual support, but outside of physical and emotional connection, they have yet to take it further, or profess love for one another. Kaito knows that he cares for her greatly, and she for him, but can only wonder at how far they will go.

He sets such thoughts aside as they both rise and head out onto the deck. The morning sun of Edenia greets them, casting bright rays across the ship and its sails. Their crew is hard at work as Kojiro steers the ship eastwards.

"Where in the southern seas are we right now?" Kaito asks.

Mileena's eyes narrow as she takes in the light. "It seems that we are north of the Coral Straight," she says. "Some islands are to the south---interesting wildlife on them."

"Orders, captain?" Kojiro asks, looking at Mileena, who looks at you.

Kaito looks at one of Kojiro's charts with Mileena. He points to a large island to the west with a fiery symbol at its heart. "This is where the book said she was?"

"That's correct," Mileena replies. "The island of Pyrkarris. The shard is said to be trapped in the heart of its volcano."

"Great..." Kaito says to himself. "Well, let's set course for it," he tells Kojiro. He sounds the call and the crew go to work in turning the ship around, pulling ropes, turning sails and adjusting their heading.

Mileena stands alongside Kaito as the wind runs through their hair. "What manner of imprisonment do you believe you will find her in?" Mileena asks.

"Well, the book said she's underneath lava. I can't mess with that, but the other two both involved breaking something, which I can definitely handle. Each of them were kind of anchored to a physical object, so if I break the object, I free her."

"We have sailed around the island a few times," Mileena says. "It is home to a few native communities; at least one tribe worships the volcano. I'd be careful about interracting with them."

Kaito looks at the chart that the Red Wake once used for its patrol route. The crew would travel in a pattern around all of the islands of the southern seas, stopping at a few key ports to restock and repair their vessel. With only one ship to patrol such a large area, it's no wonder that pirates sometimes elude them, but the odd nature of the patrol route has ensured that they haven't been predictable in their movements and thus still able to catch a few when they come upon them.

Kaito looks northwards and sees an island jutting up from the ocean. "What's that island?" he asks.

Mileena looks at it. "It doesn't seem familiar," she says. She turns back to the map. "In fact... it's not on this map at all..."

Kojiro walks over and double-checks before confirming her words. He takes out a telescope and looks through it.

"Strange waves around it," he says. "Almost like it's... moving..."

"Do you guys know anything about moving islands?" Kaito asks.

"Only that they may be on the backs of great beasts," Kojiro replies.

Kaito gulps. He's not too keen on getting into another fight with a monster like the storm giant.

Mileena sends out both of her advance scouts, one by air and one by sea: Gwyn and Arika. They both take time to assess what they see and return. Gwyn reports first; that there is no life on the island, it is mostly rocks and what vegetation there is seems to be of a variety that lives both above and below the sea.

Arika pops up and says that's it's a massive turtle.

Kaito takes another look at the moving island, imagining a turtle beneath it. Arika explains that it is very rare for a creature such as this to rise from the depths; it must be in search of something from sunbathing to food to a mate.

As they watch, the water in front of the turtle suddenly breaks and the massive head of the creature raises for a moment, just high and long enough to get a glimpse of a gigantic eye. The entire crew watches as the head submerges once more.

Gwyn, perched nearby, says, "I didn't notice any structures, but I didn't look too closely. It's possible there could be something."

"I'll go check it out," Kaito says. "Shouldn't take long."

Mileena nods as Kojiro adjusts the ship's course.

The Dragon Wing pulls up alongside the turtle, matching its leizurely speed. Kaito throws the Staff of Raiden onto the island on its shell and teleports to where it lands before scaling some of the rocky mountains.

He listens to the calls of the birds and feels the rushing wind. The excitement of knowing that the mountain he is scaling is attached to a living creature is more thrilling than any mountain climbing trip he took back home. Once at the peak, he scales down the other side and searches.

Overhead, Gwyn soars through the sky, keeping an eye out for any trouble.

There is a cave at a junction of rocks near the center. He looks down a narrow trial and spies it, glimpsing a blue color and water within.

Curious, Kaito advances down into the chamber, stepping into the water. He moves ahead, wading through the water, until he comes to a large central cavern and sees who is at its heart.

Water.

The woman stands upon the water, twirling and flourishing her hands and allowing droplets of water to follow them as she does. Larger orbs of liquid follow and she smiles as she does her dance.

She opens her eyes, not stopping her movement but making eye contact with Kaito.

"So, you return," she says in a serene, calm tone. "It is good to see you again."

"At the bottom of the world's oceans lie a great many things," she replies, continuing her dance with the pool beneath her, manipulating the flow and shape of water, "and I have seen them all. This turtle is not the last of her kind but there are not many more like her. I hope to help their species survive."

Kaito briefly imagines two mountains humping each other but then pushes it aside. "So, have you met your Earth sister yet? I freed her as well."

"No," she replies. "But I felt that as well."

"You can feel whenever another shard of the goddess is freed? What is it like?"

"I know I am a piece of something larger, and my fate is tied to my fellow 'shards' as you put it. To us, knowing that we are all each a part of a greater whole, is strange and difficult to describe. But even though I am not whole, I also feel things of my own..."

She approaches him then, walking atop the water and creating small ripples whereever she steps. She reaches him and kneels before him, getting on his eye level. "I feel great sadness, but also great hope. I feel these things for my child."

Now she is silent. "I was trapped his entire life, bound away and my whereabouts hidden. When I awoke and learned the things that he has done, I distanced myself from him. It has brought me great sadness that he has never tried to seek me out of his own free will, but I continue to hope that one day, he shall, and then I can perhaps teach him what it means to be part god."

"Is it wise? To wait for something that may never come?" Kaito asks.

She gives an embarassed smile. "Perhaps I am merely a poor mother who cannot bare to see what her son has become."

Water looks away. "We cannot choose who we love."

Kaito starts to put the pieces together. "But I still don't understand why he imprisoned you and the others and left the children to grow up not knowing who their own fathers were."

"In our individuality, we each desired him only for ourselves. Unable to split his love as ours was, and as he was still married to the mortal woman Delia, he sealed us away and left the children he had fostered to grow up alone."

"That seems like a really poor answer to the problem," Kaito says. "I mean... a REALLY poor answer. Wait, he was married? All of his children are out of wedlock?"

"Yes."

Kaito whistles to himself. "Wow. Argus was kind of an asshole."

"I cannot speak for why he did what he did. His choices are his own... and now he is gone." Water looks towards the roof of the cavern. "All I can do now is look forward to the day I am reunited with my fellow fragmented spirits. Only when we are together can we truly heal."

'That must be the turtle,' Kaito thinks as she mentions the name Nora. "Yeah... I'd know more but I spent the last twenty years asleep," Kaito explains. "But I'm very interested in learning more, if you'll be willing to teach me."

After sending word to the Dragon Wing to meet up with him at one of the seaside communities and explaining to Mileena about receiving training from the shard herself, Kaito returns to the cave and sits down in the water as she begins her lesson.

He explains to her about the training he received from Kung Lao, and she finds the advice very good, but limited in scope.

"Water is life," she explains. "Water can heal, it can soothe, it can wash away pain. Water flows freely---manipulating it is not so much trying to control the water as you are trying to control yourself. Becoming one with it and trying to understand it. Water can bend to your will, but you can also bend to the will of the water. It will change you as surely as you change it."

"Becoming the water? Like turning into it?"

"You are a being of water," she says. "Not entirely so, as you are also made of other elements, but water is in your blood, your tears, your sweat. Water is just as much a part of you as it is to the world itself; you are part of the world's water, yet you are separate from it. Turning into the water is not about forgetting yourself, but allowing yourself to become one with a much greater body, transforming yourself and accepting the transformation."

"I still don't fully understand," Kaito says.

"In time, you will. Just as you will come to know other aspects of water; control of water, becoming water, living as water."

"I have a question," Kaito says. "About storm... lightning, thunder. How does Rain wield these powers? Are they an extension of his heritage? If so... can I learn them?"

"There is great turmoil in my son's heart. He turns this passion into power; in a way, it is admirable. His aspirations and his attitude, however, are not. He believes that his mastery of water and storm come from this passion. He channels his energy outwards. But this is a failing. If you commit yourself to the same path as he, you will wield as much power as he does. But if you truly seek to understand the depths of the power that lies before you, you must understand that it is not about being the best, or the only one. Kaito listens intently to her words and takes them to heart. The rest of the training is spent in silence as she helps him hone his mind into forging shapes and solid streams. She becomes as the water and flows around him; he can feel her energy all around him and glimpse the greater whole she speaks of, but cannot yet become a part of it.

He sits in the cavernous pool with her for some time. So deep was his meditation that he did not notice she had created a sphere of water that completely surrounded him, but he continued to breathe within. He closes his eyes once more as he feels her presence all around him and loses himself to the sensation of the water, remaining anchored in body.

After some time, the water flows away from him, leaving him breathless; he adjusts to breathing air once more. She reforms in front of him and smiles. "You are closer to becoming one with the water," she tells him.

"That was..." Kaito breathes, placing a hand on his chest, "...surprisingly intense. I'm winded..."

"Until you can command your body to become one with water and it does not resist the transformation, it will always feel somewhat difficult to adjust to existing beneath the surface for such a long time."

"Thank you," Kaito says to her. "I will put what I have learned to good use, I promise."

"I know you will," she says with a smile. "I look forward to being reunited with myself."

She leans forward then, becoming as water once more as she slips around him and away. Kaito slowly stands and walks out of the cave and onto Nora's back, looking out at the volcanic island beyond.

He's arrived and, now that he has learned more about what it means to be in touch with the water of the world, he's ready for a glimpse at what it's like to be one with Fire.

Kaito looks from Nora's back and sees a small port village. He jumps off into the water, using his newfound ability to breathe beneath the surface to make his way towards it. He touches down on the bottom of the seabed and walks towards land, observing the beautiful fish all around him and the edenian coral reefs.

He starts to see the wooden supports of the docks and he makes his way to the shore, pulling himself up onto the dock. He shakes his head and wipes his eyes clean of the water as he observes his surroundings.

The port is much, much smaller than Jewel Cove, with only a few small ships in, aside from the Dragon Wing, which is further down. The people here aren't as numerous or active as Jewel Cove, but they go about their business as normal.

Kaito wanders around a bit and takes in the sights. The market is full of fruits gathered from the jungles of this island, tropical and tasty looking. He passes by many stalls and vendors who sell rugs, good luck charms, fish and all manner of homemade pottery and gifts. Deeper in, he finds older and more permanent residences, including larger homes of stone and wood.

The largest building here belongs to a blacksmith, whose chimney continually pumps out smoke. Kaito immediately takes notice of the high-quality equipment, arms and armor out front, which stand out from everything else on the island for their craftsmanship. The weapons glint in the sunlight and the armor looks beautiful, yet sturdy.

"Any you desire," she says, fluttering her eyes a bit. Suddenly, another beautiful woman wearing a flowing purple gown appears on his right, also wrapping her arms around his remaining free arm.

"You are so strong," she says, feeling his muscles.

"And very handsome," the first one compliments.

Kaito is about to speak when they turn and walk him down another alley. "There is not much to interest one such as you in this village..." the first one says.

"But we can take you somewhere magical," the second one picks up before once more feeling his arm and resting her head on his shoulder.

Kaito can hardly believe what is happening. Women have never been this forward with him unless something was up... could this be some kind of trap?

Kaito attempts to politely disentangle himself from them. "Sorry, I don't have any money."

"Oh, we're not looking for money!" the first says.

"We need a strong, handsome warrior," the second one adds. "And you fit perfectly."

"Please," the first one pleads, "the rewards will be great!"

"I'm certain," Kaito says as he gets them to let go and turns around, only to come face-to-face with another woman.

She's dressed more like an edenian warrior woman from the north, with her face obscured by a veil. "Hold," she says in a soft yet commanding tone. "Do not be so quick to judge, warrior. Be at ease."

The other two come up from behind him and rub his chest and arms as the third approaches. "I have travelled far and wide from the lands of the north to seek a warrior such as you... I would like you to perform a task, a simple one... and in return, you shall know magic and pleasures undreamed of."

The other two giggle and softly press themselves against his body.

"What's your name?" Kaito asks her.

"Perhaps you have heard of me," she says with a smile as she drapes her arms around his neck. "My name is Princess Kitana."

Kaito's eyes narrow a bit.

She takes his hand and leads him towards the edge of the village. She looks up at the large volcano. "There is an ancient power hidden on this island that the royal family needs for the protection of the realm," she explains to him as the other two girls continue to fawn on him. "Within that volcano is a statue, and around its neck is a necklace with a fiery red gem."

'Kitana' turns around and places her hands on his chest again. "If you retrieve it and bring it back to me, I'll be eternally grateful..."

"As will we," the other two coo in his ears.

The 'princess' smiles as her hand slowly trails down his chest, stopping just above his waistline. "Follow the dirt trail to the base of the mountain, and find a cave that leads within the volcano. I cannot go, for there is a spell upon the place, but you can."

The other two girls give an uncertain look at each other but 'Kitana' is confident. She moves in close to Kaito and lifts her veil, daringly giving him a passionate kiss. He's taken aback by the forwardness, but just as quickly as it begins, it ends, leaving him with a lingering taste of her lips on his.

"Much more than that," she promises. "Bring me the necklace and you can have as much as you like."

The other two immediately resume fawning over him.

"Tell me about this stone... is it dangerous? Is it guarded?"

"Like I said, there is a spell upon this place, preventing me from entering... but you can walk in, retrieve it, and return and receive your extremely fulfilling reward..." she says with an added wink.

Kaito nods. "Alright... I'll go see this stone."

"There is a tent along the beach just out of sight of the village," she explains. "We three will be waiting there for you."

They slip away from him then, vanishing into the nearby jungle as they make way to their tent.

Kaito takes a moment to ensure that they are completely gone from sight before booking it back towards the Dragon Wing. Once there, he rushes past the crew to look for Mileena, finding her alongside Jon of Haven.

Mileena turns and her eyes flare wide open, nearly burning bright orange. "What?! Someone is sullying my sister's name and honor in such a way?" She takes out her sai blades and thrusts them upwards. "Where? I'll tear out her throat!"

Kaito holds up his hands. "She is sending people to go get a necklace from inside the volcano. I think this is connected to the Fire shard---it might even be that it's protected and she doesn't want to deal with the guardian herself. So she tried to seduce me and get me to do her bidding with the promise of her and two other girl lackeys of hers doing whatever I want."

Mileena's ire grows even greater. "Where are they, Kaito? I want to find them, now! No one impersonates my sister!"

Telling the crew to stay with the ship, Mileena follows Kaito towards the enemy camp. Once within range, they find a simple tent alongside the shore, just as they had told him. Kaito and Mileena crawl closer as he prepares his plan.

He rises from the bushes and walks forward, calling out. The false Kitana and her two associates emerge from the tent. "Hey, Kitana! Look, I found your sister! I thought you two might have some catching up to do!"

Mileena bursts from the treeline, sais out and at the ready, charging at the con artist. Mileena leaps up and kicks her away, leaving Kaito to deal with the remaining two.

As they get back up, Kaito charges in and clotheslines them both with the staff, again knocking them down as they try to get back up. Behind him, they both start to get up again, but Kaito tackles on and throws her into the other. Both of them groan in pain and roll over as a wave from the sea hits them, washing off thier makeup and ruining their outfits.

They don't get back up and are out of the fight.

Kaito looks back and sees Mileena absolutely tearing apart the defense of the false Kitana, savagely kicking, punching and headbutting her. Kaito whistles to himself a bit as he watches the much-superior fighter deal with her, being thankful that she isn't his enemy anymore.

Mileena roundhouses the fake into her own tent. As she stands back up, she takes out a smoke bomb and throws it down in an attempt to cover an escape, but the hybrid summons a sai to her hand and throws it at the fake's leg, impaling it into her thigh. She screams and falls over and Mileena advances, pulling down her mask as the smoke blows away.

"Let's have a taste," she says, gnashing her fangs.

Kaito jumps in. "Woah! Hold on a second."

Mileena looks at him with fiery eyes. "No! Not this time, Kaito!"

"I want information," he says, looking back at her. She tries to crawl back but they both advance on her and hold her down. Kaito turns her face to look at him. "Now, unless you want to become acquainted with Mileena's teeth, you'll talk."

"Arh... I know... nothing!" she says.

Mileena grabs the sai and twists it a bit, making the girl cry out, "Okay! Okay! The gem... holds a great power! I wanted it for myself!"

"Why not get it yourself?" Kaito asks.

"It is guarded... by a monster of fire! A beast of magma and flames!"

Kaito sits back. "I thought as much. How many men have you sent to their doom against this, hoping they would retrieve it for you?"

"None!" Mileena twists it again. "Ahhh! Seven! Seven!"

"I take it you don't know how to kill it," Kaito says. "Well, I'll worry about that. But now that I know that going in, I think I'll retrieve that power for myself. Thank you... what's your name?"

"Zerrin! It's Zerrin!" she says in pain.

"Thank you, Zerrin."

Kaito looks back at the other two, who have gotten to a kneeling position with their heads down low, begging for forgiveness.

Kaito puts his hand on Mileena's shoulder. "Let's turn them in. Impersonating a princess of the realm has to be a crime anywhere in Edenia, right?"

Mileena growls a bit as she gnashes her teeth. "Who's to say she won't do it again?"

Kaito looks down at Zerrin. "You should count yourself lucky, missy. You never know who's going to call your bluff, and you've got looks but no skill to back it up. Be glad that I'm the one who called it today."

Mileena tears out her sait and holds it up to your neck. "Very lucky," she spitefully says to the girl.

Mileena hoists the girl to her feet and forces her and her two friends to march back to the village under threat of being eaten alive. Once there, they turn them into the local authorities; the village mayor orders them to be taken to the dungeon. He thanks Kaito and Mileena; those women have been preying on men, sending them to their deaths and eluding capture for some time now.

Kaito considers this new information; a beast of fire and magma. Perhaps there is a way to get around the monster's weakness... He has his water powers, but needs water to be present in order to use them.

She seems to feel very strongly on this point. For some reason, Kaito can't help but recall that one of the first things she asked him when he appeared is if it were a trick. He wonders if someone tried to impersonate him to her once...

"I should do this alone," Kaito replies. "Don't worry. I'll be fine."

She nods and moves out of his way as he hefts the barrel up onto his back and begins his trek.

Down the ramp, through the village, into the jungle and up the path to the volcano. Moving into the cavern, Kaito walks within and discovers a massive, blazing inferno of a cavern, with rivers of molten lava. He immediately begins sweating as the waves of heat hit him.

He looks around and sees a path of solid stone with columns on either side with glowing runes on them. He steps onto it, walking down the path.

Up ahead, he sees a large statue of obsidian-colored rock, with a glowing red ruby that burns with an inner fire hanging around its neck, but no guardian in sight.

Kaito sets down the barrel and pops off its top. "I've already freed Water and Earth!" Kaito shouts out across the wide cavern. "Now I've come for Fire!"

He looks around, but nothing happens. With a shrug, he walks towards the statue.

The lava to his right bursts from below as a massive creature stone and magma emerges from below! It roars as white-hot liquid flies everywhere. Kaito wastes no time in summoning some of the barrel's water to create a protective shield around himself. This water shield is a new power of his, and the creature reaches out to touch it, causing the shield to steam and the monster to recoil its hand backwards and howl in pain.

Kaito turns the shield into a ball and holds it in hand. "There you are!" he says to the guardian. "Let's see how hot you really are!"

It roars and prepares to attack again!

Kaito whips the waterball at the creature's face. The magma cools a bit, but then his mouth opens and fire spews forth from it. Kaito dodges off the side as the monster slams a massive fist down where he had been standing.

As he is about to get up to his feet, the creature raises itself higher from its lava pool and brings up both fists, ready to slam them down atop him!

Kaito shouts and slams both of his hands down onto the floor adjacent to him, causing two large spears of stone to jut upwards. The monster's arms are impaled on these rocks, which snap off as he tries to move away!

The limbless creature roars in pain as Kaito gets back up. He wipes the sweat from his brow before calling forth a torrent of water from the remainder of the barrel.

His hydrosurge blasts apart layers of the creature's outer chest, sending steam and hardened magma spraying outwards. The partially-solidified creature now leans back, its chest and fiery heart exposed.

Kaito uses the remainder of the water and forges a weapon of it, before sending it straight into the elemental beast's heart! The creature's essense spills forth and is solidified; the entire thing turns to stone and falls into the lava behind it.

Kaito sits up and sighs. "Phew... Wasn't so bad. A weak guardian. Almost too easy, in fact!"

"Good," a voice reaches his ears. "Because that wasn't the guardian."

Kaito turns and sees a man approaching him. From head to foot he is covered in fire; his eyes are burning holes in a stone-like darkened face. Flames swirl about him; his skin looks almost like lava, flowing and continually glowing.

He slams his fists together, hard and fast, creating a small shower of flames.

"I am. And you're out of water."

Kaito scrambles to his feet. "And just who are you?"

"Call me Cinder," he says as the flames around him grow even larger. "And you... well, I'll call you Ash, because in a few minutes, that's just what you'll be."

He strikes a kombat pose and Kaito does the same.

Cinder charges forward in a blaze of fiery wrath, laughing along the way. "Hope you put up a good challenge!" he shouts.

Kaito summons the Staff of Raiden with a crack of lightning and thunder and points it at him, blasting him with it. The electrical surge strikes him right in the chest and he is planted firmly onto his back.

"I could say the same for you!" Kaito says as Cinder picks himself back up.

"My my, what a shocker," Cinder says before blasting the ground at his feet with flames, propelling himself upwards to attack Kaito from above!

Kaito steps back as Cinder hits the ground, sending out a fiery wave that he jumps over. He moves in close and strikes Cincer's chest with open-palm attacks. His skin is burning to the touch but Kaito continues wailing away on him.

Cinder follows up with a tackle, but Kaito stomps a foot onto the ground and creates a stoney barrier between them that Cinder nearly runs into.

"I have to commend you; at least you have stones!" Cinder says, leaping on top of the rock. "But you'll never be as hard as I am."

Kaito lowers his hands. "Uh, you want to rephrase that, maybe?"

Cinder thinks for a moment. "Hmm. Nah. I'll let it stand, unlike you!"

He jumps down onto the ground and sweeps with his leg, tripping Kaito!

With the staff in hand, Kaito blocks Cinder's next punch and deflects him away. He springs onto his feet and keeps the pressure up, charging the staff with lightning. Using the lessons he learned from Kung Jin, he combos Cinder back up against the rock.

He turns and swings the staff like a bat, bashing Cinder and sending him flying through the stone pillar, which crumbles as he flies back.

Cinder shakes his head. "You're definitely good," he replies.

"Alright then," he says as he stands up. "Let's turn up the heat!"

He throws his arms out and his body begins to glow pure orange with fire as his internal temperature raises even higher than before.

Kaito stands back as Cinder powers up. The human smiles as he says, "You know, back home, the fire marshal taught me that if you don't have a blanket... STOMP out the fire before it spreads!"

He charges in and stomps on the ground, creating a fissure beneath Cincer, causing him to stumple. He then runs up to him and delivers a devastating dropkick to his fiery foe's chest, knocking him backwards.

Kaito stomps on the ground again, causing two small fist-sized stones to fly up. He catches them and grips them tightly, creating stone-fists.

He unleashes the full fury of the bloody hands upon Cinder's sternum, tearing away at the flame shield above his skin! Kaito shouts as he punches Cinder over and over and over, each strike causing him to grow a little more dim each time.

Cinder holds up a hand, panting. "Wait!"

Kaito pauses. Cinder takes a moment to breathe and cough up some ashes. "Alright, just needed that, thanks. Go on."

Kaito nods and continues to pummel him into the earth.

Kaito drops the rocks and prepares to encase his body in stone. Just then, Cinder turns into flames and flies through him, burning him a bit and knocking him back. Cinder reforms in the air and lands on his feet.

He lunges towards Kaito and punches him with hard-hitting blows, not entirely unlike his own Bloody Hands style. He then flips backwards with a fiery trail following his foot, kicking Kaito back down.

Cinder looks at him, confused. "I have to fight you," he says.

"Must you? Why?"

The fiery man thinks for a moment. "You know... I actually don't know." He slaps Kaito's hand away and jumps up. "All I know... is that I can't let you take that necklace. So... if you would please... stop trying... And whatever you do... Don't... break... it!" He shakes his head, like he's trying to say something he cannot; his speech is coming out forced and stilted.

Kaito's eyes widen and he realizes that Cinder is being forced into battle; maybe he doesn't even actually want to fight!

He turns back at the statue. Perhaps because of some kind of enchantment?

Kaito charges up the staff with lightning and prepares to shatter the statue, but Cinder shouts and gets up, grabbing onto the staff and keeping Kaito from throwing it.

Kaito twists around Cinder before lifting him up with the staff and hurling him towards the statue instead!

Cinder flies backwards and strikes the ruby, shattering it against the rock. He, the statue and the ruby fall into the lava behind them.

Kaito waits for a moment as nothing happens. Then, a great light can be seen beneath the surface, glowing bright white!

Kaito has to shield his eyes when two figures emerge from below in a glowing sphere of white fire, one carrying the other. He slowly puts his hand down as they touch down on the stone in front of him.

A woman, in the garb of a sagely monk, carries Cinder in her arms. She gently lays him down as his fiery form wears off, leaving his edenian self behind. "Rest, my son," she urges him as he groans in pain. "Rest."

Kaito looks at her. She is bald, with slightly bronzed skin, and a tattoo upon her face; not the same as Earth's, but similar.

"Fire?" he asks. She looks up at him with bright eyes.

"Yes," she replies. "And you... I have felt you. I have sensed the freedom of two others... Water, Earth... I feel shreds of their power within you..."

"Well, I've sort of made it my quest to free you," he says. "You and Wind were next, and now she is all that remains."

"Not quite," she replies. "There is one more beyond Wind, but only the four of us can purify her."

"Decay," Kaito says. "I met her once."

Fire slowly rises, leaving her son where he lay and approaching Kaito. "You are a strong warrior," she says. "You have faced trial by fire, and have earned a gift. Tell me; what do you desire?"

And if we can breathe or conjure it, then we're automatically immune to our own flames so we could LEARN resistance to all flame...but the other way around, starting with resistance and developing conjuring from that, is way less likely.

A or C is objectively the smartest choice.

If I'm counting right, the majority is B and C.

To clarify; Fire Resistance would give Kaito a big boost to not being harmed by fire or fire-related attacks, along with a resistance to dragon's breath and hellfire.

Fire Skin is similar, but is more offensive than defensive, allowing him to throw burning punches and kicks; less resistance, more power.

Fire Manipulation is like Earth and Water manipulation, in that unless we have a way to summon/conjure it, we need to rely on other fire in the area.

Conjuring Flames would be akin to creating fireballs or streams of flames with our hands.

Fire Breath is pretty self-explanatory; summoning fire in your throat and shooting it out; perhaps in a stream or fireball.

My major thought behind fire breath is, that we already need our hands for too many things. We can breathe fire even if we are being bearhugged by a shokan, or being tied up.
