The holy grail war … It's been about two months since you summoned your servant Lancer. You spent these two months sparring and training with Lancer while also familiarizing yourself with Fuyuki City. You received reports from your organisation that all seven masters have been chosen, along with the summoning of their servants. You were told that two of the great families, Tohsaka and Matou were among the first masters to successfully summon their servants, although you're not sure what servants they actually summoned.

After your daily training session with Lancer, you both stare outside the massive window in your apartment which has a brilliant overview of Fuyuki City, the various lights in the city illuminating the night; giving the city a seemly lively atmosphere even though the hour grows late.

“Master, tonight will most likely begin the holy grail war. I sense that all seven servants have been summoned, if there was going to be a clash: tonight would seem the most likely.”

You contemplate this as you stare wistfully outside the window, thinking on your next step…

Scathach nods, and disappears into a misty red aura.



The streets of Fuyuki City seem rather lively even though it's getting rather late. You cannot sense any mana nearby, just busy shoppers and commuters trying to make their way home. You realize with slight annoyance that many people you pass glance your way although they do not hold eye contact for long.

“What is it with people staring at me?” You mutter to no one in particular, but Lancer responds with a hint of amusement: “You're a foreigner remember. Most of these people aren't used to seeing outsiders. Also, not many people around here have blond hair.”

Huh, you never thought about that. Perhaps next time you'll consider to come out with more casual clothes, perhaps a hoodie or a cap to hide your hair. You shrug, you never really came into contact with people when you were doing reconnaissance over the last couple of months, as you tried to stay out of sight.

“Anyway, back to the task at hand, Lancer.”

You're currently conflicted of where to go. Fuyuki City was pretty big, and you have lots of places to go. You were currently in Miyama downtown, quite close to your apartment. You have to decide where you wanted to go…Going to a location far away such as Shinto or the church is on the other side of the city, so it would probably take most of the night to get there. You could also go to different parts of Miyama, such as north or south. You could even visit the temple, although that's also pretty far away…

If you're actually in danger, I'll give you some choices regarding on how to defend yourself along with some dice rolls, but generally if you get caught off guard and your servant isn't there aka you make stupid decisions you're probably going to die. You're not going to die unfairly, you're always going to have a fighting chance but if you do stupid stuff you're not gonna last very long. there's a reason why not many mages in the fate series are specialized in combat, unless you cheat like bazett

You decide to head towards Miyama North. You were told that two of the great mage families, the Tohsakas and the Matous lived in Miyama, but you weren't really sure where they were based, although it would probably be fruitless to try and find where their base of operations are; families like that probably has defensive magic or traps everywhere and as you had no clue of what servants they summoned, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to try and find them either.

You walk towards the north of Miyama, you explore randomly; not really knowing where to go until you spot a residence. You sense mana. You pause, staring at the residence. You sense mana inside the residence, but it's not very...high. There's probably someone inside with a small amount of magical talent. Not high enough to be a master but then you're not sure who the masters are. Apart from the three great magical families the rest of the masters don't have to be mages, past holy grails have shown that the grail often chose masters who had no traces of mana at all.

“Master? There's...mana here.”

You nod, and quickly glance around the street. It was empty, deserted. Even if someone were to pass by, all they'd see was a foreigner having a look around. What do you do?

You decide to take a look inside the residence, after all: you can't be too careful. And if this individual was a master, then you figure that due to the low mana you feel from the mage he or she is either really weak, or an unskilled novice; maybe even both. You walk up to the entrance and press the door bell. A quiet chime rings throughout the household and you decide to wait. The door flies open and you can feel Lancer beside you, invisible: ready to materialize within a second's notice.
“About god damn time! What time do you call this-? Ah.”

A young girl, probably not much older then 20 pops her head out while shouting. She pauses mid sentence as she stares at you, realizing that you're not the person she was expecting.

“Uhh… Sorry, I thought you were my brother for a second then.” She glances around you,
“Jeez, where is he? It's getting late...Aha, sorry. Can I help you? You look like you're not around here...are you lost?”

You make your way westwards, after about ten minutes you spot a sign with an arrow pointing left with kanji and the words Ryuudou Temple underneath it. After a good twenty minutes, you arrive at the bottom of the stairs towards the entrance of the temple.

You start climbing the stairs towards Ryuudou Temple thinking to yourself:

An earth shattering war-cry erupts from the giant behind her. He vanishes and appears at top of the stairs at alarming speed but Lancer is there to meet him, having inscribed the rune of quickness on herself. Scathach lets lose a flurry of blows, with Berserker managing to parry most of the blows, but not all. Berserker lets loose another blood chilling scream as Lancer manages to pierce the left side of his stomach and both momentarily back away, eyeing each other with murderous intent.

Gae Bolg is limited in distance so if they just move back X metres it cancels out the effect. Servents with divinity would avoid us due to God Slayer skill. Ato Goura would be known so 'warrior-type' servents would only fight us at full power such as using NPs before we can use it. So the main issue is that we wouldn't be able to play to our strengths as our NPs have an extremem advantage if their unknown.

Lancer and Beserker are still clashing however, even with Berserker’s inferior speed and mobility he is still a match for Lancer seeing as he doesn't have to move and is simply using the advantage of the high ground to consistently match lancer blow for blow. You frown slightly as you watch the duel unfold before your eyes, both servant's moving so fast its a blur, all you hear is metal on metal. You can't reach the enemy master like this either, not without getting past berserker. It probably wouldn't be a good idea trying to get past him, you'll most likely lose a limb, or your life.

You ask Lancer telepathically, there is silence for a couple of seconds before she answers:

Not great. He has a locational advantage, although I'd probably whittle him down sooner or later I'd also suffer some injuries.

There's a pause as Lancer deftly avoids a swing to the head and retreats a couple of steps, Berserker makes no move to follow her.

Would my throwing knives be any useful? What if I used quickening?

Against the master, perhaps. Definitely not against Berserker, they probably wouldn't even wound him if he doesn't deflect them. Using quickening would be a waste as well. Berserker is far too durable to fall quickly, I would doubt that even my noble phantasm could stop him in one blow. It seems like they are content to let us go to them, they are defending the temple. I have no idea why; sure the temple holds a strategical advantage, perhaps they are stalling for time? The other masters will have been alerted to our fighting by now, you can sense the mana here even from a few miles away. I would recommend that we withdraw for now Master, we are quite exposed here.

You would have me run? The first battle of the holy grail, and you would have me to retreat?

It's not in my blood to flee either, however there is no shame in leaving a battle when your enemy refuses to come meet you in battle.
