PREVIOUSLY ON MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Magical+Girl+Liberty

“Liberty. I am disappointed that your actions have resulted in alerting Baroness von Streucker and the Wolf Pack to your presence, and to the potential presence of the United States in the espionage theatre of war.” Over the radio as all of you sit in an abandoned shed outside of town, you listen to Operator #5 debrief you. It’s not great. Especially considering your rather brutal honesty in describing the incident. “While I may compliment your attempted sabotage of their operations, and in the prisonbreak of one of her prisoners, this is not a mission you may be entirely used to. I am advising extreme caution, especially with the news that the Werewolves have returned.”

You cross your arms. “You knew they existed and didn’t tell us?”

“The Messengers were under the impression that they were extinct, the last one reported was several centuries ago claimed by one of your predecessors in fact. But it appears that enough have survived to form an ad hoc pack with Baroness von Streucker’s husband becoming their alpha male.”

You shudder. Husband. You still want to scrub that image of her and him together out of your mind.

“Regardless, your job and mine as well have become more difficult now. The Nazis could tolerate us foiling their plots overseas where it was deemed relatively harmless, where Hitler was simply hunting trinkets and fools gold. But now, interfering directly with one of their projects, will surely put other agents in Germany in danger. They will be on alert for them, and for you.” You nod. A pit forms in your gut. This can’t be a failure, right? You got the information. You got Alena out. And the Werewolves are back which means you have to stop them now! “For now, continue to observe.”

“Observe?” you ask. “Sir, they’re planning on breeding more werewolves. That much is obvious!”

“Regardless as to what their plans are, with the increasing tension between our nations we cannot be allowed to be seen as sabotaging their efforts openly. While we may hate Germany and all it stands for on the homefront, we cannot risk going to war now while we are so unprepared. We must allow others to do our work for us.” The resistance, of course. But what can they do? You shake your head, looking down. “Am I understood, Liberty?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Very well. I look forward to your next report. Do not disappoint me again.” The radio cuts out.

Inside the shack is an air of silence. Alena quietly hugs herself in a corner, glancing at everybody suspiciously.

“Man,” says Sumire. She crosses her legs, sitting on a crate next to you. “I’ve never heard #5 lay it into you that badly.”

“What do we do?” asks Anneliese. “If we attempt to arm any resistance members, they’ll surely be slaughtered before they can do any damage. Baroness von Streucker possesses too much materiel, and that’s not to mention that she has the support of the Nazis in Berlin as well.”

You wave them off, leaning forward on your seat. “Give me some time to think about this.” It’s not everyday that Operator #5 scolds you on a job not-so-well done. Indeed, while you did gather information as to the task at hand, you did nothing to actually slow down Streucker’s operations. All you have to really show for it is the vague thought that they’re going to breed Werewolves and the incredibly horrific image of Streucker and her husband copulating. You shudder again, horrific. Absolutely disgusting. As if the Nazis weren’t depraved enough.

Anneliese pats you on the head, surprisingly. “I will give you some time then. I will be outside. Rana?”

“Sure!” Rana smiles happily, walking out with Anneliese.

And once they’re clear, Alena crawls on over to you, then takes you into a very comfortable hug. “It’ll be okay,” she says. She gently kisses you on the cheek. “Honest. I am right here for you when you need me.” She kisses you again on the cheek. “I can’t begin to thank you enough for-“

“AHEM.” Sumire clears her throat loudly enough to clear a ballpark. “… still here,” she says. She scoots closer to you, then shoves Alena off of you. “I am here for you, Libby, if you need me.”

Alena squints at Sumire. “Why-…” Sumire glares at Alena as she hugs you furiously. Oh for the love of mercy you do not need this now. “She saved me! There’s nothing wrong with showing my gratitude towards her!” She crosses her arms, blushing a bit. “You need to be less insecure!”

“Hmph!” Sumire turns her nose up. “Sorry, greaseball, I found her first.”

“Sumire’s just jealous, Alena,” you say.

She scoffs. “I am not! I just think Alena is showing a little too much skinship with you! It’s absolutely queer!” She taps you on the arm. “Plus, aren’t Italians supposed to be working with the Nazis?”

“Not me,” she hisses.

“Girls,” you say. “Just be quiet, okay?” They cross their arms, scooting away from each other. “Look.” You stand up, and walk over to the window. Past the frostcovered glass and snowbitten forests is the Castle itself. “We’ve alerted them. They know we’re here. And I don’t imagine they’re going to stay there for long. We need to do something.”

Alena shrugs. “Why not just fight them then?” She stands up. “I did not tolerate Mussolini rising up and letting his goons trash my homes and rip up the Italian cities in the name of progress. And I’m sure Sumire would feel the same way as well.” Sumire rolls her eyes, reluctant agreement though you imagine. “We can’t observe them forever.”

“Much as I hate to say it,” says Sumire. “She’s right. I don’t know about you, Libby. But I don’t trust any local resistance to help us. It was one thing in China, they’re pretty big already. But this is a country that willingly let the Nazis waltz in and take everything over. What makes you think they can do anything?”

“The first people the Nazis invaded weren’t the Czechs, the Austrians, or the Poles,” you declare. “They conquered their own people first. We’ll find help.”

“And if we don’t?” says Sumire.

“Then we do it ourselves.”

You sigh. Do it yourself or go for help first though?

Liberty was completely outclassed at every single turn of that operation, and as powerful as she is, going in against an entire castle's worth of werewolves and SS is unfortunately not in her favor. Going in guns blazing is only going to exacerbate the issue and possibly get Liberty killed. We have to figure out what the hell we're doing.

For that matter, we still don't know anything about the Baroness herself and what she's capable of, beyond funding and organization. At least Englehardt fought her own battles once in a while. We know at least that werewolves are very good at literally smelling magic and (as Dragon's Dogma constantly points out) hunt in packs.

The fact is, we have next to nothing to work with, and it doesn't help that the castle is now on high alert. We need to find an opening somewhere.

> Do it yourself.

You will do this yourself. You’ll beat Baroness von Streucker and her dogs with what you have. As nice as and sentimental as it is to include the people, they’ll only drag you and your girls down. You have to do this yourself. “We’ll do it on our own.” You cross your arms. “First thing’s first. We need to figure out how to beat those Werewolves. We beat them, we cripple Baroness von Streucker’s operations, probably permanently. Kirby.”

He appears out of your earring and sits down on a dusty barrel next to you. “Yes?”

“What do you know about Werewolves?” you ask.

“The Werewolf is an old magical creature. They were created by an especially vengeful Magical Girl who could not stand to share the title of Magical Girl with anyone else, so she hybridized the hunting nature of her pet wolves with the endurance and intelligence of a man. And for centuries, the Werewolves, even past her lifespan terrorized the Magical world. They were recently extinct however by the Third Crusade, by your predecessor in fact.”

“Right,” you say. “Any weaknesses? How do they reproduce?”

“They are still human wolf hybrids, and unlike the stories they do not actually spread via bite. They reproduce naturally, men and women.” You roll your eyes. Disgusting. “Otherwise, there are other more magical methods, many of which have been lost to time.” He paces around the barrel, anxious. “However, they do possess a weakness. Silver.”

“Silver?” asks Sumire. “Really?” She sounds incredulous.

“Really, silver actually has a number of magical properties,” he says.

“Right,” you say. “Okay, if we’re doing this…”

> “We need to learn more about Werewolves.”

“Kirby, we need to learn more about the Werewolves,” you declare. “Is there any kind of source or book or anything that you can give us that’ll give us an edge over the Baroness and her dogs?” You have to hope that he does. If literally their only weakness is silver you might be in some trouble because they stopped putting silver in coins years ago. You guess silverware might do you some good?

“I do happen to know one place,” he says. “It happens to be near here in fact.”

-

-

From the mountain road you could see that Baroness von Streucker was doing the unimaginable. Absolutely nothing. She wasn’t moving her operations anywhere else. It appeared that there were more soldiers in town at least, but you would’ve expected that after discovering a spy in your wake, she’d have moved her operations somewhere else. Maybe she thinks she’ll be vulnerable. To be fair, attacking a castle that well-defended would be difficult even for you.

But alas, you continue on. Finally, you arrive at a massive snowbank in the side of a mountain. Alena has to cozy up next to you, owing to the lack of spare coats. Sumire continues to glare jealously at her as she rubs up next to you. “Kirby,” you call. “There’s nothing but snow here.”

He hops out of your earring, then takes a breath. He blows. Snow blasts out of the way, revealing the modest entrance to what appears to be a crypt.

“You’ve taken us to a crypt?” asks Sumire.

[1/2]
>>
>>44967383
[2/2]

“Yes,” he says. He starts walking up to the door. “Inside might be more information or even something that could aide you in the fight against the Wolf Pack. There are many crypts like this all over the world dedicated to Magical Girls who laid down their life to fight the Werewolves. And even in death, they will continue to do so.” He taps against the door. “… just as soon as I figure out how to get the door open.” You all look at him, not very pleased. “It has been a while since I have had to do this, I forget some things.”

You walk up to the door, then call upon your shield from your Soul Ring. You blast the door open, revealing a long stony expanse into darkness. “… that will do,” says Kirby.

Rana gently hugs Anneliese, frightfully looking inside. “I-… is it okay if me and Annie stay up here?” You nod. “Good.”

“It is very cramped inside these tombs,” says Kirby. “So I would advise you take only one companion, Liberty.” Oh? You look over at Alena, then at Sumire. They both smile, then glare at each other, then smile at you again.

> Sumire

“Sumire. You can come with me.” Sumire grins in Alena’s face, then comes over to your side. “Alena, just stand guard out here with Rana and Anneliese. If anything happens, call me, alright?”

“Alright,” she says. She seems a bit saddened that you aren’t taking her with you, but you won’t prod at it. You don’t know about Alena’s abilities, but you trust her for now with your backside. “Just stay safe in there.”

“Don’t worry,” says Sumire. “Libby’s a pretty careful person.” She gently punches you on the arm, smirking. “She won’t get herself into any trouble. Especially with me.” You roll your eyes at that. You aren’t the one who gets in trouble anyway. She is. You take her arm, then start dragging her inside. “Later, idiot!”

You and Sumire continue on through the dark expanse of the tomb. Sumire holds up a hand, which glows through and allow you to see. On the walls are carved the pictures of Magical Girls fighting the evil silhouettes of Werewolves. “Who’s buried here?” you ask.

Kirby leads you on. “A Magical Girl who fought Werewolves during the Third Crusade, one of your predecessors in fact. The one who supposedly killed the last Werewolf.” Oh? Wow, it’ll be nice to meet yourself actually. You continue on down through the crypt’s expanses. It is quite large, a huge expanse almost as big as a warehouse building. Crusaders wielding longswords and shields at their sides are carved into the walls. And in the center of the expanse itself is a large sarcophagus, shown by an eternally lit fire. “This is her last resting place. Present your ring.”

[2/2]

You nod, and you hold up your Soul Ring. It glows a near-blinding white until the casket glows white as well. Sumire steps back, standing behind you in case of trouble. Gee, thanks, Sumire.

But finally, the light forms into a cloud, and then forms into the figure of a girl dressed in chain mail, and a white tabard with the symbol of the Knight’s Templar. She holds a longsword at her front, stabbing it towards the ground at rest. Her long blonde hair swirls like the stars, and her eyes glow brilliantly solid blue. You’re almost entranced by her beauty.

But you’re mostly concerned with how short she is. “… who are you?” you ask.

“I am Magical Girl Liberty,” she declares.

> Magical Girl Liberty <
> Of the Third Crusade <

“Who dares disturb my rest?” she asks.

Sumire whispers into your ear. “She’s adorable.” You slap her gently, getting her to shut up.

“I need your help,” you say. “The Werewolves have resurfaced.”

“I see.” She holds up a finger, then points to her casket. “Inside my casket, I have three items that will help you. You may only take one, and only one. I have a silver longsword, a silver shield, and a silver chestplate. Choose one, and only one.”

“Huh?” Sumire points to herself. “I get to choose one?”

“Yes. Every Magical Girl should have something silver on their person, and I assume neither of you do,” she explains.

“I’ll take the sword then!” She hurries over to the casket. Liberty looks over at her, then back at you. You shrug in response.

“It is okay, I had a friend like her,” she says. She steps on over ot the casket, then splits it open with a beam of light from her eyes. The stone parts away like the Red sea, then reveal the longsword and the shield sitting in there. No corpse, no nothing, just the items. You grab the shield, and feel the weight of it. Not too heavy actually, but not light definitely. Solid.

“Wow!” Sumire holds the longsword in her hands, grinning at it. “… how much do you think this will go for?”

“If you attempt to sell that for petty cash, I will haunt your soul for the rest of your days,” says Liberty.

“… is it okay if I’m fine that?” she says with a smile.

Suddenly, Rana, Anneliese, and Alena come running down the steps towards you all. “Christine!” yells Rana. You all look up at her, surprised. “The Nazis are coming! “Anneliese, blow the entrance.” She nods, transforming.

> MECHA MAGICAL GIRL TIGER! <

She prepares her mini-88mm cannon and fires at the ceiling. The explosion rocks the entire tomb. Rocks collapse all over the stairs leading into sarcophagus. You continue on to one of the walls. “Liberty!” you yell. “Please forgive me for desecrating your tomb but we need another way out of here!”

“It’s fine,” she says. “Fortune favors the brave.”

> MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY! <

You flip out your shields from your wrists and start spinning them up. You start drilling through the rock and stone, spitting it all behind you. “We’re magic! Come on! Help me dig!”

> MAGICAL GIRL BOMBER! <

Bomber knocks you aside. “Let me handle this!” She reaches up her skirt, then pulls out an M2 .50 Caliber Browning Machine Gun. She racks the bolt and starts blasting away at the wall, shattering more rocks into a capable tunnel.

The debris covering up the stairs suddenly parts, and an arm shoves its way through. You hear growling and barking from the other side. The Wolf Pack! “Hurry!” you yell. She nods, trying to continue further. She slowly steps into the tunnel she’s making. You lock the silver shield onto your back, looking back as the five of you start retreating into the tunnel. Hopefully there’s some convenient cave or something.

Alena tugs on your arm. “We’ll get out of here, right?”

“Of course we will!” you say. “We just need to-“ You hear Bomber scream suddenly. You all hurry over to her and find that she did indeed break through to a cave. There’s quite a decent drop, but it seems she’s made it out fine. “Bomber!”

“I’m okay!” she says. “Quick, jump down!”

“Go! Go!” you call. They nod.

Alena however walks up to you. “Don’t I get one of those silver weapons?”

Liberty appears next to her, frightening her. “The chestpiece is yours.” It appears right in Alena’s arms suddenly. She looks over at you. “The reason I ask that you take one and only one is because those are to share for all Magical Girls. Please return those when you have slayed the heathen werewolves. Thank you.”

The rocks split apart, and a werewolf soldier howls in triumph as he tears apart more of the debris. Crawling through the hole now are regular soldiers, wearing wolfpelts on their shoulder and masks designed after the genuine Wolf Pack soldiers.

> Wolf Pack Acolytes <
> Elite Soldiers under the Wolf Pack’s Charge <

They hurry down the stairs, firing at you and Alena. Alena ducks, hurriedly rushing into the hole. You hold up your shields, deflecting their bullets and disintegrating them against your magical hide. They need to learn that bullets are nothing against you when you’re prepared. The acolytes hurry past the sarcophagus, drawing machetes and knives to fight with you in close quarters. They howl madly as they close in.

Time to shut them up. You knock the first man to the side. The second one you trod on his foot, then smash his gut in and knock him down as well. The third and fourth try to gang up on you, bashing and plinking away at your shields before you punch and bash them away. Elite your butt, they go down as easy as anyone else.

“Libby, come on!” yells Sumire. You step back, keeping your shields up.

Suddenly, the Wolf Pack soldier leading the acolytes barks at you. He points at you. “Coward!” He drops his AT-Rifle and draws a shock baton. “Face me!” he growls.

… urge to put him in his place growing.

“Go suck on a lemon!” you yell as you run over to the hole. He roars, rushing towards you. Nope! You smash a support wall in the tunnel, causing the entire thing to collapse. He wails for all to hear as the rocks fall right in his face, cutting you off from him and buying more time for an escape.

“Alright! Come on!” yells Bomber. “Follow me!” The five of you begin to hurry through the cascading interiors of the cave. You didn’t figure that the German Alps had such a network here but you guess that there are surprises everywhere. You hope that Liberty is managing fine without you. And you really hope those rocks hold and let you escape further too.

The five of you bust through a small cave opening and poke out at what you presume to be the other side of the mountain. Alena, Tiger, and Bomber are quick to collapse the entrance, to further disguise your escape. “Whoo!” Sumire grins, crossing her arms. “We made it!”

“Yep!” says Alena. She hugs you immediately. “We did it!” She kisses you on the cheek again.

“Yeah, yeah…” Sumire shoves her away, then kisses you on the cheek ever longer. “She knows how grateful you are.”

“Yeah, but where do we go from here?” asks Bomber. “We have the weapons. Do we double back and attack the Castle now or should we wait?”

Maybe predictable, but this is our chance to utilize our new strengths before they can prepare against them.

They won't know when the attack is coming. They're still on high alert right now.

Now that we have the silver equipment, our first attack with them must be decisive. As the alpha, Zahne must be the first to die; no alpha, no pack. We don't know what countermeasures they may have to silver, if any, but if they exist, Zahne must have them. In any case, he is the foundation pillar that a large majority of the Baroness's operation weighs upon and is therefore the priority.

The question is: how do we git 'im?

Step 1: have Sumire steal all the silver she can.
Step 2: convert it into ammo for Anneliese's cannon and Rana's guns.
Step 3: Shoot the cunt

> We wait.

“We wait,” you say. “We’ve got what we came for. We have the upper hand now in fighting those Werewolves.” The five of you hurry up the side of the mountain, then crest over the ridge to find the castle, nestled in the little valley next to the town at its doorstep. You hear the faint sounds of an alarm going off, and see the town and abuzz with halftracks and tanks rolling through the streets. “They’re on alert. They’ll be expecting us.”

“So no striking while the iron is hot?” asks Sumire.

Alena crosses her arms, frowning angrily. “I can wait. My vengeance on these – figa – will be swift! And it will be merciless!”

“But look at that though,” says Bomber. “There’s so many!”

“We’ve had worse situations,” you say. You look over at Anneliese. “Anneliese?” She does not appear to be very happy. “Are you alright?”

“I do not mean to dump you in the gloom bucket,” she says. You all look over at Bomber. Has she been teaching her slang? She shrugs, trying to look innocent. “But the fact of the matter is that I believe that no matter what happens here, I believe this will not affect the course of the war. Even if we defeat Baroness von Streucker and her Wolf Pack here, I am not confident we will end Nazi oppression.”

“We will,” you declare. “Maybe not today. But we will soon, if it takes us all winter.” You look at everybody. You hold out your hand. “Everybody with me?”

Sumire puts her hand down first. “If the pay’s good.”

“I’m in!” Bomber as well throws her lot in.

“Me as well,” Anneliese declares.

“As will I!” declares Alena.

Kirby appears in the middle. “… I do not need to be here, I am with you regardless of the situation.” You roll your eyes.

Right. Now is the time to wait for the time to strike.

That is it for tonight's episode of Magical Girl Liberty and the Lair of the Wolves. Hope you all enjoyed. Sorry for today's slowness as I was pulled away a couple of times to shovel snow in the day, but next weekend should be fine. Especially if classes are cancelled again this week. Tomorrow will be another chapter in Star Wars so look forward to that.

Thanks for the fun, Boss.

Though while I shovel snow, I do listen to music. Top Gun soundtrack was the ambiance of today.

Too bad I arrived just late enough not to make a point. Remember that werewolf that was alone and separated from his pack. We could have gone back, dug him out, smacked him up a bit, and then taken additional information about werewolf weaknesses from his mangy hide.

When the snow dies down? Please, I was running today and frequently took steps outside between updates because I fucking love winter.
