Hey everybody! So uh, funny story. I accidentally fucked up the tagging on the first thread on suptg so the main tag reads "Infinte Space Quest" rather than "Infinite Space Quest". If anybody knows how to get that changed back I'd really appreciate it!

You are Captain SAMANTHA WELLINGS, a newly minted captain of the Centauri Accord!

Currently, you were being led by your recruiter, Colonel Froylatia, to your future ship. It wasn't a short trip, either. Froylatia leads you to one of the many space elevators scattered around the city, which promptly engages as it shoots up into the sky to the distant space station it was connected to.

"So, I presume you're bringing your old crew over?" Froylatia asks as she casually smokes that pipe of hers. She stares out of the observation windows of the elevator cab, watching the grand white and grey megacity underneath expand as your field of view increases.

"The core crew, at least. I'm not sure about the regular enlisted crew, though." You admit. "I mean, I'd like to retain as much as them as possible, but chances are they'll just scatter to the wind for other opportunities."

"Understandable. Enlisted crew are replaceable, experienced bridge crew are not." Froylatia says somewhat coldly. "I also assume not all of them wanted the Accord as their first choice."

"Not necessarily, but they'll listen to me." You assure her.

"Are you sure? Perhaps you should keep a close eye on them." The officer cautions.

"I absolutely trust my crew." You say simply. "And I don't take kindly to other people who try to suggest otherwise."

"My apologies." Frolaytia nods slightly with grin. "I was just being cautious."

The elevator ride continues up in silence. The blue sky eventually gives way to the black void of space, the curvature of the Earth becoming clear as the elevator begins to reach its maximum height. You look upwards to see one of the many space stations that orbit around Earth. You recognize it as one of the Centauri Accord docks.

"You mean you brought it all the way over here?" You frown.

"Well, we needed to perform some final refit work, and it was quicker to fly it Earth and perform those refits here." Frolaytia explains. "And look, you can see it right there."

Sure enough, partially blocked from view by the station around it, you could see the lines and edges of the Centauri Accord's Normady-class destroyer. One of their latest and most advanced designs to date.

"Impressive, no? It incorporates the latest technology the Accord has to offer." Frolaytia puffs with pride.

>Yes, definitely impressive.

"It looks a bit... fragile, really." You frown. The Normandy destroyer certainly had that very sleek and thin look to it, but it looked nothing like the Selene. The Selene had all of its major components kept close and centered around a central "core", and the rest of the hull as built around it, giving it a more cylindrical look. But this ship, not only did it have a very thin main hull, but its four engines were spread out on a pair of almost paper thin wings on the back. It didn't even look to be heavily armored at all.

"Ah yes, it might look a bit strange to an outsider." Frolaytia nods. "I do acknowledge that the Normandy-class isn't armored, or at least not to the extent of a Hegemony ship."

"Well, why not?" You wonder.

"Well, first of all, less armor means less weight and simpler maintenance procedures. It also allows for more modularity for future upgrades." Frolaytia responds smoothly. "In addition, energy shielding comes as standard on all Accord ships, so the need for physical armor is practically obsolete. The hull is still rated to withstand the typical environmental hazards of space, though, so you don't need to worry about a stray micrometeorite puncturing the hull or anything."

>Ah, that makes sense.

>>
>>44974684
>>Ah, that makes sense.

Heavy shields, meh armor--sounds like an alright tradeoff for me if we also get modularity.

Maybe we can find some heavy laser cannons, improved armor, and more powerful shielding upgrades along the way?
>>
>>44974684
>Ah, that makes sense.
>>
>>44974684
>>Ah, that makes sense.

Yep, makes perfect sense. Besides, more armor would just give it extra weight that it was not designed to handle. It's still just a Destroyer after all, and not a Cruiser or Dreadnought.

"Ah, that makes sense." You nod. "Those shields can repel ALL attacks, right?"

"Of course." Frolaytia smiles, letting out a small puff of smoke from her mouth. "The early versions could only repel energy weapons and extremely high velocity shells, but the current models are perfectly capable of blocking slower projectiles like missiles and torpedoes."

"That's good to hear." You sigh in relief as the great space view is blocked out when the elevator enters the station proper.

"Anyways, do you have any ideas for a name?" Frolaytia asks. "As the Captain, it's tradition for you to name her."

>Suggestions?

"Sure!" You nod happily, almost giddy like a child to see the interior.

"Hmmm, I suppose I can take you on a quick tour." Frolaytia gives a teasing smile. "Follow me, then."

You follow the Colonel as she leads you to the boarding ramp. You also subtly notice the presence of two security robots following some distance behind you, their steel feet clanking loudly on the deckplates and each holding a rather large and powerful looking rifle.

"Standard security detail." Frolaytia explains as she casually puffs away at her pipe. "Can't be too careful these days. It would be a shame if a Hegemony or Confederate saboteur damages your ship."

"Of course." You nod.

And Frolaytia takes you through the whole tour, starting from the engines. You notice how absolutely clean and sterile the interior is. All of the consoles aren't even on conventional screens, but are instead these fancy holographic and electronic interfaces. Everything was simply just... light years ahead of anything you've seen previously. It made the Selene look like a horse drawn wagon.

In the engineering bay, you notice a right blue orb, surrounded by advanced machinery. You could immediately tell it was a reactor of some sort, but... it looked very different. There was no obvious containment measures. You could see the core plain as day.

"Is... is that safe?" You ask as you point to the softly glowing core.

"Oh, this isn't your standard nuclear reactor!" Frolaytia laughs. "I forget that SolSec has to work with older technology. This in fact is the Flux Reactor. Infinite power generation without the radiation risk from the older nuclear reactors, except for well, the Heat generation, but we'll get to that later. But anyways, this here is the ship's heart."

"Hmmm, I see..." You nod, still slightly uncertain.

Frolaytia then leads you through the rest of the ship. As you figured, it's the main fuselage that transitions from engineering spaces, to the regular crew compartments, and finally the command deck where you and bridge crew would normally sit. There, as before, all of the consoles were completely electronic and holographic. You could see data being projected directly on the front observation window, too. Like a giant HUD.

"So, Captain, would you like to take a seat? Break it in?" Frolaytia grins as she motions to the central command chair.

"No, it's tradition not to sit in the chair until we launch." You shake your head.

"Ah, understandable." Froylatia nods. "Then lets continue."

Frolaytia then leads you to the ship's armory, where you see quite a lot of fancy looking guns and armor stocked.

"We've stocked your armory with the latest small arms and armor available to Accord soldiers." Frolaytia grins. "Here we have the standard plasma rifles, plasma casters, personal shielding, and power armor. All designed to give each individual soldier maximum combat capability! And that's not even getting into the contingent of combat drones available!"

"Impressive." You nod. Honestly, though, you don't picture Tank wielding any of these rather fragile looking weapons. Maybe the Accord could custom build something more to his tastes?

"Next is the medical lab." Frolaytia shows you a somehow even more sterile room, filled with beds, tubes, and scanner equipment. "No longer do we have to make invasive surgical procedures, not when we have beds that literally rebuild your body from the ground up!"

"Seriously?" You raise an eyebrow skeptically.

"Oh yes, it's something you'd have to see to believe, but works. I guarantee it." Froylatia nods. "And due to your mission, we've also made additional modifications and expansions so the medical module can also double as a fully function lab facility, in case you make any... exotic discoveries."

Oh man, Natalia would probably LOVE to hear that...

Finally, you are led to a single room, which looks rather large and comfy. There's a large, queen size bed, an empty desk, multiple empty shelves, and a large observation window showing the vast amount of space and all of the Earth traffic outside.

"And this here is the Captain's quarters. Of course, the Captain's comfort is paramount to an efficient ship. It looks bare now, but you can modify however you want."

"I see..." You say, still taken aback. This room had to be at least two, maybe even three times the size of yours on the Selene!

"You know, maybe you'd like to stay here the night? Get a little more familiar with the ship?" Frolaytia smiles with a glint of mischief. "We can have the rest of your crew brought up here tomorrow."

"I think I'll come back tomorrow with the rest of the crew." You say.

"All right. I know this is all overwhelming for you at the moment." Frolaytia nods. "Let's return, then."

With that, the two of you make your way back to the space elevator. This time, however, the cab is crowded with a number of other occupants, no doubt crew from other Accord ships looking to reach the surface. There all talking excitedly with each other, and don't really seem to pay any heed to you other than saluting Frolaytia when they notice her.

One other thing, you notice, is their uniforms. Naturally, they were all color coded to visually signify role and rank, but there was also something else. They were a bit... form fitting...

"Ah-w-what?" You say, your breath heavy and hot.

"I was just wondering if you were okay. The cab's already stopped but you were just standing there staring out the window." Frolaytia frowns.

"O-oh, m-maybe I just caught something while on the station. You know how it can be, foreign contaminants and all..." You laugh nervously as you rapidly fan yourself with your hand. When the fuck did you get so sweaty?

"Should I call a medical team?"

"N-no, that's quite all right!" You shake your head rapidly.

"Ah, well, I suppose this is where we'll have to part ways for now." Frolaytia nods to you. "The exit is just to the left. The security bots will escort you out."

"R-right." You sigh loudly.

"Ma'am, your body temperature appears to be higher than normal." A security bot drones on. "And it appears your clothes have absorbed a higher than normal level of moisture-"

"I'M FINE CAN WE PLEASE GO NOW." You yell instinctively.

The two bots obediently escort you out without another word, and you finally breathe in some fresh air. It's already getting dark out, so you suppose you shouldn't keep hanging around here.

You decide to call up your fellow female crew: Amy, Lida, Elsa, and Natalia. It was pretty common tradition for the five of you to go out and get some drinks after a particularly eventful patrol. Tank was not exactly very sociable, Bradford was too straight of an arrow to be seen drinking in a bar, and Scott was kinda a dork and a lightweight. You quickly call them up, and tell them to meet you at the "usual place".

Said "usual place" is one of the typical SolSec dives, where SolSec officers were given huge discounts on their drinks. It was a wise strategy on the part of the owners, since it always meant there would be some form of security present. Of course, you make a quick stop at your apartment first to take a quick shower and change to clothes...

"Yo, Cap!" Amy waves happily as you enter the bar. It was one of those old fashioned places, that still used wood paneling for the tables and the decorations. Obviously meant to recall older times. Elsa, Lida, and Natalia were present as well. Lida, as always, was more engrossed with whatever she was playing on her tablet, while Natalia was studying the exotic drink she had just ordered, trying to discern what it was made of just by looking at it.

"Hey there." You sigh. A service bot floats over to take our order. You just look at it so its facial recognition could register you and simply say, "the usual."

The service bot floats off and you flop down on your seat.

"Looks like you had a long day." Amy observes.

"Eheh, I heard your recruiter was a real looker." Elsa grins mischievously. "So? Did she trigger any switches?"

"No." You say flatly.

"Dohoho, but you show the hallmarks of a recent 'climax.'" Natalia's terrifyingly soothing yet unmistakable Russia accent floating into your years.

"I don't know what you're talking about." You huff as you cram a handful of peanuts into your mouth."

"It's not wise to lie to a doctor..." Natalia coos.

"ANYWAYS, we got the job, and a new ship to go along with it!" You announce.

"Really?" Amy's eyes sparkle. "What kinda ship?!? Tell us! Tell us!"

"What about the weapons!?" Elsa leans in as well.

"Or the tech!" Lida actually puts down her tablet to stare directly at you.

"Such curious souls!" Natalia giggles. "Just a simple scalpel is all I need!"

"Nuh uh uh, I want to keep the surprise." You chuckle evilly as the service bot returns, a glass of cold beer clamped securely in its manipulators. You swipe the glass from the robot and take a sip. "Maybe a few drinks could get me to loosen my lips..."

Already, you can see Amy, Elsa, and Lida glaring at each other to see who was going to end up picking up the tab for this. They quickly rock papers scissors for a few seconds, with Amy ending up the loser.

"FUCK!" Amy curses.

"Your sacrifices will be remembered, Amy." Elsa mock salutes.

"Truly, a heroic sacrifice." Lida nods.

You... you don't really remember what happened after that. What you do remember is the ceiling of your apartment, and Natalia's very amused face.

"Fufufufufu, you're finally awake?" Natalia chuckles.

"Awww shit, it happened again, didn't it?" You groan. "What's the damage this time?"

"Well..." Natalia's grin grows wider. "On the bright side, there were no damages. You didn't go on a drunken rampage like you did when the crew of the Emille made fun of your height. It was far, FAR worse."

"What... what did I do?" You star sweating as the pain of a sudden headache surges through your head like a lightning strike.

"Well, you were mumbling something about 'skinsuits', and then you started groping Amy, Elsa, and Lida quite AGGRESSIVELY." Natalia giggles. "It was quite the sight! I had no idea you had such fine motor control in your hands!"

"I don't regret anything." You say simply. "That was the future they chose."

"Mhm." Natalia nods simply as she takes out a pill and holds it in front of your mouth. "Take this. It'll help deal with the hangover symptoms."

"Hrrrm, it's a pity I don't remember it, though." You sigh as you swallow the pill. "What were their reactions?"

"Surprise at first, of course." Natalia nods. "As for their reactions? Well... their voices said no but their bodies said something very different. Ah, the wonders of human physical responses~!"

"I see..." You frown as you look out the window. "What... what time is it?"

"It's 0500. The sun hasn't quite risen yet." Natalia explains. "The others are actually sleeping it off in the living room-"

"CAPTAIN!"

That's when Amy, Elsa, and Lida burst into the room.

"Y-you're not going to tell anybody about what happened last night, are you?!" Amy cries.

She wasn't the only one.

Nope, that's the Hornet. Kraken Con, Fall 2015. It was pretty fun; they had Arpeggio of Blue Steel and KanColle playing on the projector.

It was released right after New Year's back in 2012--so yeah, four years. I remember the threads like they were just yesterday, those first fledgling generals that kept going and going and going without end. It's like remembering a dream, now, looking back.

New ship.
New controls.
Old crew.
No manuals.
>>
>>44981447

My bets are on flying the ship in reverse on her first outing, damaging the engines, and having to spend a week or two in ordinary as things are patched up.

If it's any consolation, this guy was there. (If you don't know who he is, he does research for the Wargaming folks.)

How do you think they take off those suits?
>>
>>44981574
Better question is: How sweaty does it get on the inside?
Must suck to clean those out though.

Zippers of course.

Futuristic fabrics, nanomachines, built-in temperature control and other systems probably stave off the worst of it.

>Zippers

I swear that this thread has the most amount of skintight bodysuits in all of Merc Quests... including the time we thought of them being hidden in the Belkan Vaults.

Well that's certainly one way to remove the 'boobsock' effect from those suits

So while we are on the subject on lewds, about the name Gullinbursti. I know where it comes from but there's a Finnish language specific joke. See kulli means dick and kullin is the genetive form. I'll leave it at that.
