Your name is Thomas Cairn, and you were finally starting to get your life figured out. That is, until you managed to blow it all up. You're dad left you a legacy as the Red Rider, and you carry it as the Red Knight, a hero for a modern age. You had your own company, a suit of power armor, an AI assistant, even a girlfriend. You had a great life. Then an unlucky invention put an end to that. It was just supposed to even out some pressure systems; you didn't know it would end up blowing up like Independence Day.

In a flash of blue light, your life was stripped from you, leaving you in a plain room with an intercom blaring. You were covered in scars from the explosion you were saved from, though you quickly remedied that and more with a new invention of yours. After some mistakes were made involving the creation and subsequent escape of a viscous creature called "Kludge", you were decided to be too much of a burden on your erstwhile saviors and captors. They informed you that your mother had given up her life for yours and you had been frozen for 15 years, then they told you to get out. The year is 2033 and the world has changed.

The Supe Kitchen was going splendidly when you checked it out, you even got to mingle with a few up-and-comers. Most thought you were a shape-shifter, but you didn't feel the urge to correct them. Grandpa would be proud, the majority of the costumes there were either skintight or stylized with bright colors. RON updated you on the current situation with Supers, apparently another blast like yours hit worldwide. Super-anythings are commonplace now, and the PC term is AltHuman. Most AltHumans simply get a job that utilizes their skill, but a good portion are still heroes and villains.

You sit in the dressing room while the people in the seats murmur, every news outlet among them. You stare at yourself in the mirror while waiting for the clothes to get here. Your hair is standing up everywhere, like you got shocked or something, and you notice that instead of being brown it's a deep black. You chalk it up to some minor flaw from the Icebox and begin gelling it down.

A woman in some ridiculous glasses and a dress that looks like it shifts colors as she walks wheels in a rack filled with clothes. Most of them make you sick with their blinding Technicolor coats and saccharine neon ties. You finally manage to find some "vintage" suits and begin looking at them. Pretty standard assortment, though with a few odd patterns, until you find a parka nestled in the back with a note.

"Don't catch a chill Frosty -21"

Great.

Blue suit, red tie, sunglasses.
Monochrome is for people who haven't repeatedly changed the world by accident.
>>
You put on the red suit and black tie, gotta have a power suit in place of power armor. It fits you perfectly and you give yourself a once-over in the mirror. Your body is a bit leaner than when you got out of stasis, you just haven't been as hungry. You take out a pill from the bottle on the desk and put it in your mouth, feeling the same dulling feeling you always do. Taking the dge off can't hurt.

>Stress reduced to: Coping

The screen in your room lights up and begins showing the podium on stage. Mulling it over in your head, you have an idea. You put on a pair of black sunglasses and the parka, hopefully this will work out. Fibin walks on stage and begins speaking.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this press conference today is not about an innovation, a car, robots, or even computers. This conference is about the innovators, the people who help make the impossible... possible. This company was founded by a man with vision beyond his time, at the age of 18 he built the basis for a business empire that stands to this day. Times may have changed, but that spark hasn't. The people who make things happen always had vision beyond their time. Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, these are the people I speak of. 15 years ago, Mr. Cairn went missing and was never found. Today, we make history as, ladies and gentlemen, he is here today."

The crowd chuckles a bit but Fibin keeps a straight face. That's your cue.

You hear fireworks going off everywhere, screaming into the sky, exploding in starbursts of scintillating scarlet and white. Accompanied by "Back in Black", you begin walking to catering and make a burrito. You put a bit of sour cream on it as a final touch right as you hear something from the stage.

"LLLLLLLLADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I PPRESENT TO YOU THE ONE AND ONLY THOOOOOMAAAAS CAAAAAAIRN!"

You can imagine the elevator raising up with you in it, that would've been cool, but this is funny to you. Martina's going to flip, it's going to be great. You hear the music stop and a collective silence issue from the crowd. Then you run out to the stage with the burrito in your hand.

"Sorry, I'm a bit late. This is the ribbon cutting right? Give or take a few years of course." The crowd gasps collectively and begins applauding. The press begin snapping pictures frantically. Even security is shocked.

Fibin glares at you as a cacophony of chatter erupts from the mob.

Now I would love to explain but it's a long story and I don't have visual aids on hand for five dimensional objects, so just trust me, I am back. Now, on to the subject of some more recent leaps I've made in my absence. I was upset by the fact that the future isn't like Star Wars, so I made some cool medical technology that gets us one step closer. That's probably all I'm at liberty to discuss without being called crazy, but know this. I plan to stay this time."

The crowd starts clapping, then it raises into a roar of approval, then the flashes start as you smile. As Fibin starts calming people down to start asking questions, you hear a much louder clapping, this one slower. The sound echoes the entire stage and almost deafens you. A figure in a long black trenchcoat with a hoodie underneath steps out of the now deafened crowd.

"You're the president of my fan club?" He pulls off the hood and looks really angry, but not recognizable in any way. Shaved head, loud voice, Soprano tone...

"I used to be called Boombox before I learned what I can do. You can call me-" He's gone, where did he go, did he teleport? You saw another guy do that a long time ago. All of a sudden a pain comes from the back of your neck and you are raised into the air. "-Glitch Hop."

The crowd begins running and Fibin is nowhere to be seen, as adrenaline pumps through you, some things stand out. There are a few people who run out with backpacks and bags, then turn left or right instead of running. Your mind races and your only conclusion is that they're Supers. If you can stall, they may be able to help you."

You slip your right hand into your pocket and grab the small screwdriver you carry around. Normally this would be for tinkering, but this works too. You twist your arm around and stab Glitch Hop's hand with the tool. He screams in pain, and as your eardrums feel close to bursting, he drops you.

You fall to your knees and hands but quickly roll to the side to avoid a concussive punch from Glitch Hop. His fist leaves a hole in the stage where your head was as you flip onto your feet about five feet away. His right hand bleeds from a hole in his palm as he begins vibrating subtly.

He's moving slowly, you could maybe throw him to buy time. You raise your eyes in the eons between movements to see a large light hanging on a bar over Glitch Hop. If you could hit it just right with something heavy... Your eyes wander to a firework platform that was obviously meant for after the conference.

You run at Glitch Hop and begin to form the Judo stance you used to throw all those other criminals before. He just stands still as you grab him by the shoulder and hand and throw him at the fireworks. Your aim is true and the fireworks go off spectacularly. He must be out cold or dead by now.

"How cute, the dead man walking did some training while he was gone. Ever hear of a trap?" The voice comes from above you and you see Glitch Hop on the lights. He smiles and lets go, dropping to his feet in front of you.

Taking the opportunity, you go for a punch, but it connects only with air. Suddenly your face is on fire and the ground leaves you. You go spiralling towards the wall, sure you are going to impact it, then a fist crashes into your back launching you towards the ceiling. Certain of death, you close your eyes, but another fist impacts your head from above and you fly straight down at the floor. You are caught by your suit at the last minute by Glitch Hop. You are remarkably intact, if bruised and bloodied. You feel broken bones, but you should have been powder by now.

"Any last words before I turn you inside out?"

The world begins to slow and you realize something. The last time you saw Boombox, you cut off his kneecap then he was summoned somewhere else. Maybe this isn't just him getting better, maybe he's cheating. You quickly slip out of your coat and kick up your leg, sending your antimagic battery flying out of your pocket. Your hand speeds up to match your thoughts and you grab it out of the air while turning mid-drop. You quickly kick your other leg out, causing you immense pain as you cartwheel away from Glitch Hop. Then you throw the battery.

Sure enough, the rune lights up to show magic is in the area, then the light spreads to the rune for "Negate". The device explodes in a flash of purple and Glitch Hop screams as his knee begins bleeding. He falls to the ground grabbing his groin and spasming on the floor. He begins to vibrate again, multiple outlines of him shifting on his body, then he is standing up. He stands on one leg instead of two, the other drags limply behind him.

"I don't need that goon's shit to kill you!" The stage begins shaking as he begins breathing in.

You jump over a table and knock it sideways, then open your mouth and cover your ears to hopefully stop hearing loss and eardrum problems. The stage begins violently shaking as you glance over at Glitch Hop, the world moves at a crawl. This is it, you can't beat him like this, you're going to die.

The world is moving like a frame-by-frame movie, if the conditions were better you would wonder how your eyes are moving this fast. Glitch Hop finishes his breath and... falls over? Besides him you see a man in armor with a clock as his face holding an aluminum bat. He looks over at you.

Ide rather not come off as a jackass the first time we get saved. Though this event does mean we really need to come up with power counter measures for when we go out and about in our suit again.

"Nothing a few minutes in a tank won't fix. You one of the new capes?"

"Yeah, I'm Jumpcut. Big fan of your work. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take this guy to the police." He grabs Glitch Hop by the back of his arms, but before Jumpcut can pull the unconcious criminal away he fades away leaving a small golden coin in his stead. That device was supposed to remove magic from the equation, how did he do that. You run up and inspect the coin, but it seems to be just a simple golden dollar. You look up to talk to Jumpcut and he's gone.

You walk over to the now ruined stage and sit at the steps. You mull over what might have happened in your head, but you just can't figure out how he got away. Maybe it's not magic, just a new superpower. You can't tell, but what you do know is that somebody wants Thomas Cairn dead.

You get interviewed by reporters and police alike, most shocked that you're alive, and eventually the day slows down. You go back to CI HQ and are handed your all-access pass, as well as a ribbing from Martina. She absolutely hated your entrance, but admitted that you said the right things and made a lot of good publicity for Cairn Industries. An assassination attempt is a good headline.

Sound waves are just air particles vibrating, if you making a force field then its going to have a frequency of what can pass through it and what can't. Just have a toggle that it blocks sounds should it go above a certain decibel.

You decide to go down to the labs and work on Gene Therapy. For the most part you can only do research on less drastic alterations and corrections, but that still gives you the reasearch you need for building on. It feels all too familiar working on this idea, sometimes you even feel like you're retreading ground. A few rats with Sickle-Cell Anemia are brought in and you begin injecting them with the primer and virus you use to insert genetic material. It seems that after about 3 days of repeated treatment they show improvement in their condition.

One night while sleeping you wake up in a cold sweat with a single image left in your mind. A small white flower on the ground, slowly staining red. You start crying but you don't know why, then it hits you. Jeana loved that flower, what did she think when you were gone for so long? You got dealt a shit hand, why you? You cry in your bed and eventually slip back into dreams of concerts and long drives singing along to the radio.

>Meanwhile...

"What do you mean he was too fast!?"

"I don't know! He moved like a man posessed!"

"What did he do to you?"

"I... I don't know."

"I need to talk to the boss about this."

"who wants their own personal space station?"

Which considering, we could probably do already.
>>
>>44996120
We can still choose projects, specify things like "Set up automated defenses." and "Build a clinic." Also things that affect the Supe kitchen directly (promotions and shit to improve the quality of local supers) can still go under business.

Speaking of promotions, is the Junkyard contest still a thing that's done every year?

AI Tree (Costs money to integrate):

>Localized Assistive Node Array (LANA): A miniaturized copy of RON that is hooked into the suit. Doesn't require service to operate. Will provide HUD and advice on the situation. Communicates with RON if possible. COST: $30,000

>Assistive Auto-pilot Robotic Operating Node (AARON): An add-on to RON that allows him to pilot the suit in an emergency. COST: $20,000

>Micro-Actuator Node (MAN): AI designed specifically to interface with and utilize the Micro-Actuators efficiently. COST: $20,000

Force of nature entities should be just that, forces of nature, they should feel powerful and take many many many other to stop. They should be rare but also be one of the few entities to perma kill other characters. They also should take a thread + to beat.
