The political situation continues to worsen. Talks have broken down within the Assembly and several nations have already recalled their representatives. The proxy war in the desert becomes an actual war as national armies mobilise to seize territory. The IF peacekeeping forces are powerless to halt the conflict as they cannot act without Assembly approval. For now the conflict is confined to the desert, away from population centres so the rest of the world is content to watch while the regional powers settle things the old fashioned way.
For the mercenaries of the desert this means new dangers as well as new opportunities…

((Welcome to the Mecha Mercs Skirmish Campaign.

This is a tactical turn based collective game where each player takes on the role of a mech pilot. As the campaign progresses the players will accumulate a supply of resources which can be used to build up a persistent pool of mechs and equipment, but watch out! If your pilot dies you could lose it all and be forced to start again with an inferior mech.

Answer the roll call to participate in the mission.

New players check out the quick start rules in the pic. Existing players know the drill.

Cable Guy: “Alright guys last night the Droiqubaran Army made a massive push into the desert. They’re performing a blitzkrieg with mech units acting as the spear tip. Their aim is to occupy key resource rich regions and hold them long enough for the rest of their forces to secure them. Naturally the other nations aren’t taking this lying down, but they need time to organise an effective response. There are merc contracts all over the place for missions to halt the Droiqubaran advance. Most of them are meat grinder missions but I got us one that won’t require us to fight off wave after wave of crack mech units.
It’s risky but if we pull it off we can make bank without slogging through a battle of attrition. SOP with advancing mech forces is to have alternating mobile server farms setup shop just behind the frontlines in a leap frog fashion as the front moves. The Droiqubarans aren’t bothering with that, instead they’ve pulled out all the stops and sent in assault servers to keep pace with their mechs. One of our intel sources told me one unit got a bit too eager and over extended themselves. The mechs got themselves locked in combat with another merc unit while their server farms lagged behind. See where I’m going with this?”

>>45135336
Yup. Pls read the Quick-Start rules and choose your starter mech.

((Lets get this breifing started... cue music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFCrFeno7lk))

Cable Guy:"We’re going to take out those server farms. Now I won’t lie; this is extremely risky. Elements of the main Droiqubaran force will be closing in. We will have a small window of time to hit the server farms before overwhelming re-enforcements show up. Add to the fact that assault servers are built like brick shit houses. The particular models we’re dealing with have heavy armour plating on the front and sides. The only weak point is a large radiator block on the rear end of the vehicle, so either bite them in the ass or use something powerful enough to defeat the armour. The assault servers are also equipped with a single AA turret, but it’s strictly for shooting down missiles and engaging enemy flyers… just be careful about performing jump moves and using flying drones around them.
The servers have a small escort consisting of light tanks and type-B AFVS. The AFVs have an auxiliary missile pack in addition to their main cannon so don’t let them get a lock on you. The light tanks mount a large bore cannon that fires a canister shot similar to the Komodo’s frag cannon. They will shred you at close range. They also have a thick frontal armour, not as much as an MBT, but enough to make plinking away at their front inefficient.
As for terrain the only cover out in the desert will be large sand dunes. At their highest they will block line of sight, at intermediate heights they should provide a bit of concealment.
One last thing: Due to the nature of the mission we will not be able salvage your mech if it gets wrecked during the mission. If you have to bail out make sure you leave the mission area before the Droiqubarans arrive or things will get… complicated. That’s the briefing, if you have any questions speak up, we sortie within the hour."

((Right I'm going to attend to a few errands, be back in 30-45mins.))

Apparently the nation of Anuncia is planning to launch an experimental land carrier to increase their strategic reach within the desert. Naturally the Tiberians would prefer this didn't happen...

With the outbreak of the war, the Anuncian land carrier: Sakala had to be launched ahead of schedule. As such it entered the desert with a skeleton crew and no vehicle complement. It is scheduled to stop at a forward operating base for it's final refit before heading into the deep desert. The guys in the intel office have identified three possible points at which we can strike at it, but I want your input before we plan the final op."

((Vote on next mission.))

>Intercept the carrier just outside the Anuncian border.
The Sakala will be poorly defended but reinforcements are close by. Low enemy presence, tight mission time frame, mech recovery not possible.

>Attack the Sakala at the FOB.
Medium enemy presence, threat level escalates the longer the mission goes on for. Mech recovery is only possible if certain mission conditions are met. More objectives with potential for bigger payout if all of them are met.

>Intercept the Sakala in the deep desert.
No enemy reinforcements, but you will fight the Sakala with it's full complement of weapons and attack craft. Very high threat level, high payout too, but it's all or nothing. Mech recovery is possible.

>>45141028

Interesting, Mr. Kerry. Thank you.

I don't know quite know what to think abou this - I don't want to attack a forward operating base, but I don't want another mission near reinforcements ready to swoop in. >>45141608
Spare started a mech-wreck fund last mission, could you include that somewhere in our resources? I'd like to add to it as well.

Mission vote discussion: I like the idea of doing and ambush in the deep desert, but I can see that mission turning bad on us very quickly. I don't think we're fast enough for the border intercept, but we might be able to pull it off, especially with gratuitous application of explosives. The FOB sound like a decent place to jack some resources from as well as doing the mission, but we don't really have the numbers for an assault on a fortified position. Thoughts?

Bad choice of words on my part. You may only ever claim the benefits of one pilot tree. Later once I hammer out rules for respecing you may be able to switch classes, but you may never have multiple classes.

Class selections are indicated in your trips as a code following your name, details are in the construction rules in the advanced ruleset. I actually phased out the requirement for weapon codes since everybody posts their full loadouts anyway, yet everybody keeps using them, which I don't mind.

Vote tally so far stands at:
A I
B I
C I I

Hetros hasn't voted and I did not tally for Wendigo. I agree with their assessment might not be fast enough for a border. I guess a deep desert intercept does sound nice, and if all felse fails at least we can get our mechs back - and our camels are made forr the place. So far it looks like the deep Desert.

I do want to add that an entire land cruiser with a full compliment of weaponry and fully stocked is likely to have us severely out-gunned on the "Heavy weapons front" and my vote remains for the FOB.

But hey, where-ever ye dusty pirates roam I'll follow.
>>
>>45142735
I'll go for the FOB, because I sure as shit don't want to deal with a fully armed cruiser
>>
Huh.

The Reptiles were pretty handy ground-combat troops, weren't they? What if we offered them a deal? The Tiberians want us to get the Cruiser out of Anuncian hands, right?

So what if we offer our Reptile buddy Monitor a gig? We hit the FOB, we disable the weaponry and the defenses and then they roll up in some of their APCs and hijack the cruiser. Skeleton crew means their mechanized infantry should be able to clear the thing deck by deck. And if we're offering to do some of the heavy lifting, maybe they'll send in a few tanks or something to help.

It's a land cruiser! That's a hell of a thing to maybe be able to own. We're mechies, we don't really need it - and it'd be a shame if such a thing where to be blown up entirely. Plus, I bet its easier to disable it from the inside with infantry than to blast it all apart.

>>
>>45154107
Actually the most dakka would be:
x2 Heavy Mech-Pistols
x2 Mech-Pistols

For a beautiful 10 shots for 2 actions.
>Assuming all shots hit: 14 damage
>Assuming all shots crit: 24 damage
With the Assaults skill Point Blank it would be:
>Assuming all shots hit: 24 damage
>Assuming all shots crit: 54 damage

Although the current set up I have is better since I don't have Point Blank...yet.
>>
Command, I have question about the Laser Rifle.

So, if I understand correctly, the damage of the next shot in the same turn gets doubled if a shot lands, right ?

So if the three shots in the salvo land, it will deal 2+2×2+2×2×2=14 damage, is that correct ?
>>
>>45154763
It's damage to the power of the number of hits.
In the case of the laser rifle:
>2
>2x2=4
>2x2x2=8

The rationale is that laser weapons don't fire bursts but rather a continuous beam for a set time, the longer you keep the beam on target the more damage you deal.

This means that laser attacks are always resolved as a single "shot" for the purposes of damage reduction and crits. BTW to crit with a laser all "shots" must hit, but only one need exceed the crit threshold.

-------------------

So far I'm seeing that four people are in favour of the FOB mission while two have not decided. Unless this changes before the thread is archived the next mission will be an assault on the FOB.
>>
>>45156847
What happens when the laser gets modified by Point Blank?
3x2x2?
Do crits get multiplied as well?
>>
>>45157044
Sorry Honey it's: (2x2x2)+1
You don't seem like laser person anyway.

Crits don't add to regular damage. I explained this to Wendigo and have since posted this in the Errata file on the google drive.

>Every unit has a second pool of HP representing internal damage. You start taking internal damage when you lose all your normal HP, but also when a critical hit is scored. For most mook enemies this means instant destruction, but mechs have 5 internal hit points per body part. As these take damage any equipment mounted on them gets destroyed. If your torso takes 5 internal damage then the mech is completely obliterated. This is why most of the time your mech will only get wrecked as opposed to destroyed, and also why your pilots will automatically bailout when HP is reduced to 0. (They have a sense of self preservation right?)
>>
>>45157672
Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up.

>So far I'm seeing that four people are in favour of the FOB mission while two have not decided. Unless this changes before the thread is archived the next mission will be an assault on the FOB.

I'm pretty fine with whichever, 'swhy I laid pros&cons for each. But! You haven't said one way or the other if 3C (Caramel Camel Corps) is tight enough with the Reptiles to swing Sparebits' deal, or anything similar. Be nice to know what sort of support we can expect, y'know?
>>
>>45158987
The Reptile Group is willing to help. Cable Guy was actually going to sub-contract them for extra firepower anyway, but if you guys really want to attempt a capture I can alter the mission plan to accommodate that.
>>
>>45159265
Making it so that we have a choice between the two, with capture as an optional objective for a higher payout, would be nice.
>>
>>45159265
Well, I think it should be an optional objective, but it certainly would be nice to pull off.
>Destroy or Capture the Cruiser.
>>
>>45160307
I was going to present you with the choice during the next session but since you asked I'll give it to you now:

The Reptiles were originally going to supply a battery of heavy missile launchers to destroy the Sakala, your mech's weapons would not be enough to do lasting damage to the superstructure.

However if you wish to capture the carrier the Reptiles will supply APCs with infantry instead.

However-however-however...

If you want maximum flexibility you can hire both the missile battery and the mechanised infantry giving you the option to change tactics on the fly, but this goes over the original mission budget and will cut into your payout.

So...

>Hire missile battery and go with the original plan.

>Hire mech-infantry and attempt to capture.

>Hire both, allows you to change tactics on the fly but the final payout will be reduced.

For this daring mission the payout would be high anyway; and if we succeed in capturing this the reward is enormous.

So paying Reptile Corps a little extra for flexibility is a smart deal. That ensures we can succed even if capturing proves unfeasible.

Yeah, it seems flexibility is the best option here, having a backup will hopefully allow us to avoid repeating the half-failure we had this mission.

Besides, having a good working relationship with the Reptiles sounds good, they'll be less likely to fuck us over or refuse to help us out if we are good, lucrative partners.

I guess I missed out on this one. Does this quest run on a predictable schedule or is it purely random?
