This seems as good a chance as any and with their attention up in the air, this is your best chance to seize the attention of many. Your tongue is thick in your mouth with the residual, blissful shock of having been in contact with what must be the 'Sacred Heavens' the gods named to you, but still, you raise your staff and step forward, calling for attention.
"Kin! Clansmen, tribesmen, listen to me!" Heads turn in your direction and gradually, quiet descends. You are the godspeaker and clearly, the gods mean to speak.
"The gods have spoken," you announce. "Not the gods of the Wild, but Gods of the Sacred Heavens. We are watched and we are judged, not for offerings, but for our deeds; for our actions, our faith and our virtue. The Gods of the Heavens seek not offerings, but to guide us, each of us, on a better path. They are gods of healing, of wisdom, of courage and kindness and this is their creed: To be good, to be harmonious and to be pious. To the just, they will grant their blessings; to the impure, they will grant silence and to the villainous... Should arrogance move you to petition these gods without virtue, then you shall feel their wrath. So have spoken the Gods of the Sacred Heavens!"

There is little sound within the crowd for a while, as they take in your words. Then questions start quietly being asked of one another, such as where the gods of the Wild fit into all this. They understand the creed, it seems, but have trouble taking it to heart. It's less loyalty to gods not even yet a generation old, but more a practical concern. The Gods of the Heavens offer much, but the Gods of the Wild control the valley's food; its water; its crops; and even the very weather and ground beneath their feet. Power like that is real and tangible in a way these new gods are not. It seems that if you wish to push the agenda of the Gods of the Heavens, you may have some work to do, on top of the trials already associated with unification.

Joining in everyone, this seems promising, I'm surprised I haven't seen this Quest/Civ/Series before.

Is there a pastebin with our tech and relations or anything like that? Or access to come sort of spreadsheet with info?
>>
>>45163715
Nope

We have farming, slings, spears, javelins, tents for housing and some other things

There are two other tribes; the strangers and the herders.

Strangers live in the forest and are quite nice but a "might makes right kind of world view". A major group of the bear gods of the natural/wild gods worshippers live here. They harvest honey for him. Ruled by a Chief.

Next their is the herders, they travel around but some of them have joined our tribe thanks to us convincing them to join. They know how to herd animals, primarily goats. They worship the "bull" god primarily and are ruled by a council.

We are a tribe that live next to a river, farming on it's banks, we (as in our character) traded control over the harvest for the support of mesut, the de facto leader of our people now, in pushing people to help us set up farms. We are now able to survive off the harvest with a surplus. We worship all of the gods equally.
>>
>>45163973
So the Strangers as a whole primarily worship the bear god? Or a group amongst them, like a clerical order? Or are they like two different groups in the same area?

How do these bear gods work, are there different ones for different facets of nature, or is it like Mesopotamia and cows how the animal is just revered and sacred? Also double checking These Bear gods are the Gods of Nature/The Wild yes, or are they just some of the gods of these domains?

What does the Bull God hold dominion over?

What gods do we know of so far?

Our character is blind/poor sighted, and gave up control of land and farming for politics?

What sort of trade goods do we have?
>>

>>
>>45163715
RWB Hasn't gotten around to the paste in yet...

>>45164074
I'm not going to be a dick and tell you to just read the archives, although they would be the best source for this info, so I'll tell what I can remember.

The Wild Gods are more like spirits than gods, they each take the form of an animal and control an aspect of nature. For example, Nila, the river spirit, has dominion over water.(note: Nila was our lover and we had a kid with her, named Ebba.) I'm not going to attempt to list the gods we know of because I can't pull that off the top of my head, but if you want a God of such and such, chances are we know them.

Our character, Trym, just so happens to be the first sorcerer known to the world. We were arrogant with our power and overextended ourself. We managed to not die, but a price was paid for our arrogance, and we lost our sight.

We then met a new God, Rhea, who is actually a true god, part of a council of true gods. Rhea gave us the task of unifying the 3 major tribes in the area into one group, in return we get our sight back.

Mesut is our primary rival in clan politics, and has a tendency to try and take control of the advancements we make. As for trade goods, primarily we have grain. As far as we know, we are the only tribe to practice farming on a large scale.

And just as quick family summary: We have two wives; Nila(river spirit), and Beren(persuasive human). We have three children; Sera(eldest, daughter of Beren, currently learning to hunt under the Wild God Soqed), Ebba(daughter of Nila, has an inate yet undeveloped power with magic), and Noh(son of Beren, youngest child- no special skills shown so far).

As practical as your people's homes are, you're starting to see the limitations of them. The materials the herders use are much more readily available than animal hides, wear out slower and are easier to repair after they're damaged. By combining the heavy wooden supports your houses use and the herders light thatch and wicker-and-mud walls, you could create something much more impressive and sturdy than anything that's come before. That has both practical concerns and would be an impressive sight indeed, to bring the admiration of strangers and herders alike. First however, you've got to make it work.

You make excellent progress initially. The weaving techniques the herders use for their walls is the greatest challenge, but as a side effect of your experiments, your people have well and truly developed a talent for basket weaving. Although not watertight, these containers are lightweight and replaceable and instantly prove a hit. You can't claim the invention yourself, but it's clear the inspiration came from you and the herders practicing.

The bad news is that you're still not confident you can get your two building styles to co-operate well. The wooden wickerwork keeps springing away from the wooden supports, the mud being insufficient to just hold it down. Hides are no problem of course; you can just pull them tight and behold; you have an oversized tent, but your old shapes and forms just aren't going to work like this. You'll need to try a little more before you have something workable.

It is now turning to early spring. What will you do?

Also how is our land doing, how much do we have and how much can it produce? If we can bring more under cultivation we should, we saw that the weather can effect our crops last year and quantity might help with any possible shortfall. Otherwise, if we have enough land, seed it and prepare it for use (we should work on irrigation if we can)

I say we get a a do another house upgrade. Or go for an irrigation system. like go heavy into it. for a few seasons. Makes the m give a better yield. More consistent, and less likely to starve if we connect the river or something to our farms.
I don't think we have real containers right? Like our farms rely on rainwater to grow?

I think clay should be a priority, it'd give us a monumental boon in tech, building, crafting and the likes.

We can store and preserve foods, craft tools that are better than wood, build homes with some level of insulation, get the twigs to stick to the wooden beams, and start making bricks. Using this we can make a temple and/or attract the other civs in the area.

Also we should keep our youngest son with us while we do just about anything, so we can try and discern his strengths.
>>
>>45167068

We do need to plant though, whether in early or late spring it needs to happen or else we'll end up starving come winter
>>
>>45167150
Hmm yes, I change my vote, plant ASAP, then do the clay immediately after, if possible same round.
>>
>>45166973
You've got two wives, as polygamy has no taboo among your clan. In fact, more wives means more kids, so it's almost a sign of status.

Beren is your human wife. She's given you Sera and Noh, as well as one who died in childbirth. She's a sharp, hook-faced woman with a fierce ambition and understanding of people.

Nila is the goddess of the river and gave you your second daughter, Ebba. You angered her in a BIG way a while ago though and while she's forgiven you, the spark of the relationship has died and she's not really spoken to you much since.
>>
>>45167225
Who says she needs to speak to us?

How about we make an effort?

For now, plant

Then next round I say we spend some time with Nila, and in doing so attempt to find clay with her help. Trade something for a basket and bring it down to the river filled with flowers, send it down the river as an offering. I think she will like that.
>>
>>45167309

Honestly I am not certain that it's been long enough, the gods all at once have a very short and a very long memory and if I remember correctly feel even deeper than humans do, she is still very hurt. But a basket of flowers would be a good gesture, we could ask Ebba to help pick them out for us and make them our next offering to her. Also a small token or toy for our lost child that got turned into an otter would be appropriate.
>>
Alrighty, um, votes called? I need to go to sleep after this one.

Sorry this thread's so short; that internet failure earlier came out of left field. I'll keep going in the morning, as always.
>>
>>45167571
I vote, plant crops.

And if possible during this round, try to patch things up with Nila a bit, a romantic gesture of flowers in a wicker basket floating down her river.
>>
>>45167662
Ah, crops are automatically planted in the spring, no need to worry about that. Unless you want to try and grow something specific, or like, get yourselves a whole new orchard or something, it doesn't need direct intervention. Building projects during planting and harvest only have about half the manpower they otherwise would though. Everyone's busy.

It looks like continuing the building research wins, but like the numpty I am, I forgot to ask everyone to roll for it.

The answer that had been eluding you through the winter immediately became much more apparent once spring starts. The answer, it seems, is in the quality of your materials. Green, living wood is much easier to work with than the brittle sticks you find during winter.

With larger pillars supporting the structure, wicker walls can stand in more than just small circles. The relative lack of rainfall and light snow in winter means that your people don't have to worry so much about sharply sloped roofs, so shallow sloping thatch is perfectly acceptable. You manage to find a mix of straw, dirt and water that works well to insulate and make the wicker walls watertight. The herders have, of course, already taken to building their houses in this fashion, but it may take a while to catch on among your clan. The technique may be simple, but it is time-consuming to make an entire house this way. The new wicker and mud houses are a mark of status however, so naturally, Mesut and his family start work at once, bribing others to help him with the trade goods he has acquired from the nomadic herders. Other prominent families soon start to follow suit, marking the start of your clan's first truly permanent houses.

You have mastered basic dirt construction. There's some room left for improvement, but this wattle-and-daub approach opens many new opportunities in construction that simply weren't available to your people before.

I'm back! I'm up! Oh god, what even is time...

As the seasons turn and late spring arrives, the herders return and they bring with them new things... A strange new animal that almost resembles a stupid, graceless deer without antlers. They seem to have found a way to convince it to carry their burdens however, as the small group has two large baskets strapped across its back. Not long after they return, a large group from the herders go upstream and cross the river at the ford. many, but not all of them, then return downstream and visit your village, bringing these new animals, 'donkeys' they call them, with them. It seems the herders are taking advantage of their wide-ranging travels to become traders, as they bring with them a wealth of luxuries from outside the valley!

Among the bones and hides you've come to expect from them, are such exotics as beads and even delicate shells from some far-distant place. For Elia, they brought (at great expense and effort) a huge, rough-hewn chunk of pale stone that they assure him shapes easily. Elia is delighted with the purchase and trades away everything you loaned to him, in order to pay for it. Among the other goods are strange, brightly-painted gourds seemingly made from stone, the same as most of the beads. And among those beads are a few that are bright and flash like fire you've never seen before.

The traders are only likely to be in your village for a short time. Quite apart from anything else, their luxuries are in great demand and they'll soon run out!

Acutely aware of your obligations to Soqed, you decide that getting out of the way early this year would be to your advantage. You take up your spear and make for the sparse forest of the valley. You know your chances of reckoning with an aurochs are slim, with your blindness, but you are still capable of being quiet and there are more ways than sight to track a deer, all of which have become more and more apparent to you as the years have passed in darkness. Relying on your magical touch-sight, your hearing and of course, the able help of a pack of dogs, you track your prey with all the skill available to you. Your body is no longer as young as it once was, but you still have many years left in you before you succumb to infirmity.

You manage surprisingly well. Admittedly, much of your success can be attributed to the dogs, but even so. Your careful tracking brings you close to the herd and you can feel the breeze on your skin well enough to get downwind of them, sneaking closer and closer. Then, you give a piercing whistle and the dogs sprint away, fanning out and barking, dividing the herd and driving part of it towards you. You do not trust your sightless aim enough to react swiftly and hurl your javelin as you ordinarily would, however with your hands already extended, once the beast comes close enough, you already have the javelin hovering just beneath your hand and ready to go. At once, you launch it forward and skewer the leaping deer. Another whistle through your teeth and the dogs close in for the kill, bringing the doe down for you to prepare and bring home.

You successfully manage to gather two units of meat before the start of summer.
