Your name is Amy Nakamura, a 17 year old void Oni, and your day has just been getting worse and worse. It started like any other day, you woke up, made breakfast, went to school, stopped Cindy Miller from bullying your best friend Trish and then beat up her boyfriend and 4 of his friends in the parking lot. A pretty normal day all things considered, then everything went to shit. You decided to go jogging at Memorial park to burn of some extra steam, what happened next was straight out of those shitty teen supernatural novels you totally don’t read. You heard a strange sound coming from a small copse and decided to check it out, probably the worst decision you’ve made today. Turns out that the sound was coming from a short, nerdy looking guy with glasses. When you stumbled upon him he was being attacked by several faeries from a very prolific gang. Being the chivalrous warrior that you are (more like angry giant girl who wanted an excuse to punch some more people) you decided to confront the faeries. After soundly kicking most of their asses, their leader managed to almost strangle you with some chain that she enchanted. Being unable to remove the chain yourself you asked the kid you saved, who’s name is Daniel Butler (prefers Dan), to help you take it off. In some sort of grand cosmic joke, he managed to “chain” (unfortunately it’s almost literal) you into his service. Which understandably pissed you the fuck off, after all of this it was revealed that the fae were after Dan because he knew something they didn’t want him to know.

What the fuck did you get yourself dragged into?

>Ask him what he knows that bothered the faeries so badly

Damn the last thread got salty. Do people not realize that sometimes stories have conflict and/or bad things happening to the protagonists? There's a difference between railroading and having a plot.
>>
>>45199982
Fuck off. Nobody wants to talk about it anymore and bringing it up is just risking more salt.
>>
>>45199982
I'm not opposed to plot, I'm opposed to feeling like I've been hit with a bait and switch. Being forcibly bound should either have been the explicit premise from thread one, or the foreshadowed plan of a bbeg, much farther down the line.

We are a strong, independent oni woman, and we don't need no master.

You take a deep, deep, breath and try to focus. The faeries that were attacking Dan appear to have fled the scene, so for the time being you can try and figure out what has happened to you. You finger the chain encircling your neck and feel the connection between you and Dan. It’s a very strange feeling, almost as if you can feel his pulse and yours at the same time.
“Hey Dan?” You say breaking the uncomfortable silence that’s been there since Dan finished talking. He looks up at you, his face screwed up in concentration.

“Yeah Amy?”

“You think we could try and figure out what the hell just happened to me? The faeries are gone and it’s driving me crazy.” You tell him, trying to keep your voice calm. The anger you were feeling hasn’t entirely dissipated and you don’t want to scare him, too badly.

“Yeah sure,” He says sitting down on the ground “what can you tell me about this ‘chaining’ and ‘Bond’.” You sit down with him, the ground shaking a bit as you drop yourself more or less to his level.

“Okay, so I don’t know everything, and the only person who knows anything about what I am is my grandfather.”

“That’s weird, you’re not adopted are you?” He asks, not trying to hide the curiosity in his voice. You arch an eyebrow at him.

“No I’m not, Oni are weird, apparently our blood can skip generations and manifest in our descendants. I’m the first Oni to be born in our family for some 7 generations.” You tell him as he nods.

“Anyway, the Bond is something intrinsic Oni, or so Grandfather told me. It’s kind of like the bond between a Samurai and his Lord. The problem is I’m supposed to choose my own Lord, or be forcibly bound to him at birth. It’s not supposed to just happen by accident.” You finish, Dan looks down crossing his arms and screwing up his face in concentration again.

“You have no idea how to undo it?” He asks, still looking at the ground.

“No, like I said the only person who knew anything was Grandfather and he didn’t know much.” You respond.”

So Amy is third-generation Japanese-American; does she know any Japanese at all?
If this were on the West Coast, or the New Jersey/New York area, there are Japanese supplementary schools that a lot of the Japanese kids go to learn to speak and read/write Japanese.

A quick Google search shows that there are a couple Japanese language schools in Houston.
>>
>>45200767

“No. I'll look into it, find out more about it, but it'll be after I'm free from you.” You say putting your foot down. He just grins wryly at you.

“If we don’t test anything out I won’t have any idea of how to solve this. Okay, don’t get pissed at me, but I’m going to give you an order and see if you have to follow them.” He says, obviously trying to keep you calm. Which you can’t blame him for, you kinda murdered 10 innocent trees. You nod slowly, not finding any fault with his logic, even if the circumstances piss you off.

“Alright, get up and touch that tree over there.” He asks you in what he probably assumes is a commanding voice. Nothing happens, you don’t feel any compulsion at all. The only thing that’s a bit weird is the pulse you feel from the chain picked up speed a bit.

Interesting

“Interesting,” Dan says echoing your thoughts “So it’s not like a slave compulsion or anything.” He finishes, stroking his chin as if he had a beard instead of peach fuzz. “You said it was like a Samurai’s bond to his lord right?” You nod. “So maybe your body just thinks I’m your lord. What did a Japanese Lord say to dismiss a samurai from his service?”

No way, it can’t be that easy

“Amy Nakamura, I Daniel Butler release you from my service.” Almost immediately the pulsing stops and the chain falls unceremoniously from your neck to the ground.

“That’s it?” You say unbelieving while Dan has the smuggest fucking grin on his face. You’ll deal with him later, because it’s taking all your willpower to keep from jumping for joy like a little girl. You instead express your joy in true Oni fashion, by punching shit. Specifically some trees, after punching three trees in joy a wave of exhaustion hits you. You collapse to the ground, breathing incredibly heavy. That’s odd you didn’t use up THAT much energy fighting the faeries, you’ve even stopped having to consciously clench your back muscles to stop your stab wound from bleeding. Then you notice that with the pulsing from the chain stopped you feel… Empty

Weird

“AMY!” Dan yells as he runs over to you. “Are you alright?” he asks standing over you, worry clear in his eyes. You make a non-committal sound and start to get up, when you finally get vertical the exhaustion seems to dissipate some, so does the empty feeling.

“Seriously, are you alright? You did get stabbed.” Dan asks, as you wave him off.

“I’m fine, I’m fine. The fight just took more out of me than I thought it did.” You answer. He seems to believe you and then the awkward silence comes back. “What time is it?” You ask him suddenly, he raises his eyebrow but checks his phone anyway.

(Cont. Long post)
>>
>>45202015
“It’s a little bit before 7, why?” He asks as you groan.

“I was hoping I could talk to my Grandfather about all this, but his nursing home stops letting visitors in at 7 and he doesn’t have a cell phone. Besides he’s probably asleep already.” You tell him.

“Well we can always do that later.” He says nodding. “Do you think I could bum a ride off of you? I don’t have a car and I told my mom my buddy would take me home.”

Why would I do that for the guy who got me into this mess in the first place?” You ask a bit incredulous.

“Because I could’ve kept you bound to me and instead I helped you get it off?” He says, well he does have a point.

“Alright, fine.” You say as you walk back to your car. It takes you a second to return to your human form, the damage to your gym clothes is even more evident now. You both pile into your shitty Camry, after Dan gives you the directions to his house.

“How’d you get over here without a car anyway?” You ask as you pile in.

“My school’s around here.” He responds, you grunt in acknowledgement.

The drive to Dan’s house is pretty un-eventful, you make some small talk, learn a bit about each other. You’re both seniors and he goes to some private school around the Memorial area. He seems like a pretty decent guy all things considered, he even made the most embarrassed face when you removed your ruined bra at a stop light. Damn you wish you could’ve taken a picture, he was almost as red as the light. Although the drive was pleasant, he seemed hesitant to talk about what he knew that made the faeries come after him, you think it’s because he doesn’t want you to get hurt.

Cute

As it turns out Dan lives in River Oaks, out of the two “Rich” neighborhoods in Houston it’s the one where most of the “New Money” lives. Christ is his house big, you pull up in the drive way next to a Cadillac, feeling incredibly self-conscious about your Camry.

“Thanks for the lift… Sorry about, well everything that happened tonight.

>>
>>45203359
QM asked what was said that gave that impression and I answered. QM might not mean it that way but it can be valuable to know how things are interpreted.
>>
>>45203385
I'm not that anon, but i got that impression solely because most other quests instantly use cute, cool, and other descriptions to introduce romance options. I won't complain here, but it's easy to send the wrong signals to some anons.
>>
>>45203430
Very true.
>>
“It’s fine, just don’t tell anyone about me and we’re square.” You tell him in a tired voice. He nods and starts to get out of the car.

“The way I see it, as long as you don’t tell the faeries where I live, I have absolutely no reason to tell anyone about anything tonight. I kinda just want to forget about it.” He pauses for a moment, leaning on the car-door. “Thanks Amy, for everything.” He says as he leans in and extends his hand towards you. You shake his hand firmly.

“I just hope we don’t run into each other like this again, I don’t want to fight off any more faeries for strangers again.” Which is kind of a lie, the faerie fighting part was fun as hell, you just don’t want anyone to find out about you like that again. He nods and starts to close the door.

I'm disqualifying them, my vote included because they want you to go home to face the music. The other don't s want to go hide out at Trish's place. You might see it differently but in my book they are different votes.
>>
>>45204057
For future reference, let the vote run a little longer.
I know you have your plot points and everything that you want to get through, just please don't push them. This isn't a book, it's a quest. Shit's supposed to happen naturally and by choice.
>>
>>45204164

No, nothing needs to be longer. The initial vote was over 10 minutes which is more than enough time, and the final destination vote was 5 minutes, which is also plenty of time.
>>
>>45204147
So explain why when there was a clear vote one way, you refused the results and set up a second vote.

I'm trying to understand why you did that.
>>
>>45204200
The initial vote was too long if anything. Ten minute hard cutoff and not relying on a vote format that can easily be controlled by one person for contentious votes might be best in the future.

>>45204103
Eh. Nate a shit too. Need some quality NPCs and so far the only one to come close is yuri.

I'm not going back on anything, If you want romantic feelings with anyone you have to cultivate them. Amy commenting on the attractiveness of other people has no weight in romance. If you want romance, you have to get the anons to agree with who you want, then you have to spend time with that person.
>>
>>45204438
So all this meta talk about how to trigger the least amount of people possible. Like what we're doing now.

HIS. FUCKING. CALL.
He is the QM. He has the right to call for a re-vote if he thinks there may be samefagging, or a miscount, or if the weather is nice and it's a Thursday. Rule number zero, live it or leave it.
>>
You stop him and exchange numbers quickly, you don’t know if either of you will ever use them, but it might come in handy. The drive home makes you incredibly nervous, you know exactly how your parents will react and it’s making you scared. You consider going to Trish’s house to stall for time and to talk about this to someone, but you figure that it’s best to get this over with. Your house has a few lights on when you pull up, that means your dad is home, your mom won’t be home until later. You stall for a minute in the car clenching and unclenching your hands on the wheel.

“Oh just nut up bitch.” You say to yourself, you quickly gather up your things and walk towards the door. As you walk you realize that the stab wound in your back is a bit sore, you’re going to have to drink some alcohol if you want it to heal quickly. Unfortunately your dad only has expensive sake, which he won’t let you drink, and his shitty canned beer. You walk through the door and hear your dad watching tv. As soon as he found out that Netflix has tv shows, he cut your cable, not that you really watched that much tv anyway.

“I’m home Dad.” You yell into the living room, you hear his grunt of acknowledgement. Man he must be really into what he’s watching. You quickly walk into the kitchen and grab a beer from the fridge, your parents stopped caring about you drinking alcohol underage when Grandfather explained you were Oni.
Something just occurred to you, if Dad is so absorbed in his show, you could probably sneak by him and avoid the conversation you’ve been dreading.

>Sneak by him

That should be a player vote.

Vote closed, sneaking it is.

Roll me 3d10 for sneaking past dad DC 8
>>
Rolled 5, 9, 1 = 15 (3d10)

>>45205059
Actually, since FDs can be samefagged, it'd probably just result in the samefags bitching for FDs if they didn't samefag hard enough to get a second shot at forcing their shit through. That's happened in quests before, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.

Alright, writing
>>
The only problem with your sneaking mission is that to get to the stairs, you have to go right behind the couch. You walk as quietly as you can, shit you’re basically tip-toeing. You slip past the couch and make it to the stairs, only for the first stair to creak as you step on it. In that moment, your entire life flashes before your eyes, then your dad looks at you. Thomas Nakamura is not a tall man, he is however incredibly broad for an Asian man. He’s also the only man who still scares you. He takes everything in, your tattered clothes, the blood on your back, the beer in your hand and the absolutely terrified look on your face. He sighs, pauses his show and rubs his beard.

“Darlin, what the hell happened to you? You look like ten miles of bad road.”

“I got into a fight dad.” You answer sheepishly, at this point he’s gotten up and is examining you.

“Birds fly, catfish swim and you can’t stay out of fight.” He chuckles a bit bitterly. “This wasn’t a normal fight though, your clothes are shredded and you’ve got a big cut on your back. What happened?” He asks in a tone that brokers no argument.

There's a suspicious amount of votes that look the exact same, especially when far less people voted on the issue of sneaking and the roll afterwards...but let's ignore it for the sake of maybe advancing the plot.

Hey there, Slowpoke.
>>
>>45205806
You have to have two dice over the DC
One die over fails
No dice critfails
Three dice is a crit success
>>
>>45205806
Needed two dice to be over, not just one. Also, it's not roll under.

“I got into a fight with 4 faeries from Titania’s silence.” You tell him. Your dad winces and motions for you to continue with your explanation. “They were harassing some random kid, and when I confronted them about it they got violent. They managed to stab me, but other than that it really wasn’t that much of a fight. The guy who they were messin' with pissed off before it was over too.” You say, a little bit of pride sneaking into your voice.

“And the clothes? How did those get ruined?”

“Their boss put some sort of spell on me that I couldn’t break in human form.” You lie. Your dad seems to buy it though, as he’s rubbing the bridge of his nose in thought.

“Alright sweetheart, that’s enough.” He says, you catch him muttering something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like a faerie racial slur. “Just get up to your room and do your homework, make sure you drink that beer so your back heals up proper. I guess I’m staying up late tonight so I can help you explain this to your mother. Your blood goes immediately cold at the mention of your mom.

You are so fucking dead

They had to have at least two of the three dice they rolled over the DC to succeed. None of them did they only got one.
>>
>>45205806
Maybe it was supposed to be "at least two of the 3d10's roll over 8?"
That's too high a DC for what was described to be an easy choice, but it's all I got.
I swear to God if anyone mentions railroading I'll feed them a railway spike.

Oh, so it's not about the total sum of a single 3d10, but the individual scores within it. Gotcha. Neat system.
>>
And that's it, I would've continued for a bit more but I'm honestly exhausted and need to get up early tomorrow.

Thanks to everybody who keeps showing up, you have no idea how much I appreciate it.

Twitter and Archive are in the second post, and I'll be around to answer questions and hear criticisms.

Hope y'all have a good night.

I'm definitely stealing that and adding it onto Fate Points with my next quest. Good run by the way, despite mistakes from yourself and the constant salt from others. See you next thread.
