Hello and welcome back to Mortal Kombat Konquest!

When we last left our hero, he returned to Yanake's city and fought a bunch of ninjas before leaving for the empire of Kotal Kahn in the city of Z'unkahrah after learning that the osh-tekk himself could be behind the assassins. Once there, he treated with the Emperor before departing for the Living Forest upon learning his childhood friend Kenshi was there and in danger...

After helping Takeda take his father, Kenshi, back to Riptor and putting him on the back of the large dinosaur mount, Kaito and his companions (including the rock ninja and son of Earth, Tremor) have travelled back to Kotal Kahn's city, with Takeda and Kenshi riding on Riptor with Kaito and Tremor walking alongside them. Along the way, Kaito attempted to speak more with Tremor, but found him to be rather unconversational, and exceptionally blunt and forward whenever he was inclined to speak. The tall warrior with stone-like skin did relate some of his recent life, however.

Tremor was sent into the Dream Realm by Kano in order to search for a weapon, a "psych-bomb" for purposes that Tremor did not question. In his time there in that strange, fluid and mysterious realm, populated by the constantly-changing dreams of all mortals in all realms, Tremor experienced visions about himself that expanded his mind and led him to question his true nature. He came to realize that he was no longer satisfied with employment in the Black Dragon; money no longer seemed to have the luster it once possessed.

Although leaving the clan meant being marked for death by its members, Tremor cared little---he didn't believe that any of them could harm him regardless. Since then, he has wandered Outworld, seeking more fragments of truth relating to his true origins, which Kaito has apparently revealed: that he is a son of Argus, like Rain and Cinder, an ancient edenian god. His mother is one of five shards of the Broken Goddess, named Earth. At least, so Kaito assumes---the evidence seems clear.

Kaito looks up at Kenshi, laying on the back of Riptor as the massive dinosaur-like mount stomps across the dusty terrain, leaving large footprints and clouds of sand behind with each step. They found Kenshi hanging upside-down with his own ancestral blade, Sento, impaled through him. Sento now lies in its sheath on Takeda's back and his father is bandaged and barely conscious.

Kaito regrets not getting in touch with Kenshi sooner---although it would have been difficult before meeting the blind orc that tipped him off to the order in which they are both members of, there may have been ways to track him down. Regardless, Kaito is grateful that his old friend is alive.

He reaches up and gently stirs Kenshi's shoulder. "Hanging in there, buddy?"

Kenshi manages a low groan. Takeda looks down. "His thoughts are difficult to piece through," he tells Kaito, using his minor telepathy, a skill inherited from his father. "We'll need to get him some more healing and rest."

"The Dragon Wing should be able to accomodate him," Kaito says. "I'll give another shot of my healing water when we get there, otherwise we may need outside assistance. We could always bring him back to Earthrealm."

"Don't forget, you mentioned you're meeting with Kotal Kahn tonight," Takeda reminds him.

Kaito looks off in the distance and sees Z'unkahrah, its many stone buildings looming over the horizon. The sun is setting, and their meeting was to take place very soon. Still, Kaito is worried for his friend and wishes to be there for him. He knows he asked Mileena to speak with him if he could not.

Kaito sends Tremor with Takeda and Kenshi off to the Dragon Wing. Before they depart, the earth ninja looks back at Kaito.

"I do not wish to wait long," Tremor tells him. "Conclude your business with the Emperor and return quickly."

Before Kaito can respond, Tremor turns around and continues walking. The human shrugs and chuckles, walking towards the city as they split off. Blunt and forward, not unlike a rock being chucked at one's head.

He enters the city limits and heads towards Kotal Kahn's palace. He keeps his eyes peeled for that thief who stole from him earlier, but doesn't expect to run into him---he's probably off enjoying that money he lifted from Kaito's belt. He should, since Kaito gave him one hell of a chase for it.

He approaches the guards near the palace exterior and identifies himself. They swiftly take him to one of the inner courtyards of the palace, where thick foliage grows from exotic trees and plants. It's the closest thing the palace has to a garden, Kaito surmises.

The Emperor is here, along with Mileena and the red-clad woman, Ruby. The osh-tekk is currently slightly hunched over as he inspects a plant.

Kaito hails them. "Emperor, I had no idea you had a green thumb."

Kotal Kahn shoots him a strange, unamused look. Kaito stops dead in his tracks. "I mean, I know that both of your thumbs are green-ish, it's just, there's an Earthrealm expression that means--"

"I am familiar," Kotal cuts him off. "These plants are from some of the deadlier of Outworld's equatorial jungles. Some of them are deadly to contact," he says, running his hands along the petals of a beautiful flower, "and others are only watered in blood of their prey." As his hand nears a large open pod, teeth spring out of it and snap shut, not unlike a piranha plant or the Audrey II. Kotal pulls his hand back in time and affectionately pets the bulb of the bloodthirsty plant.
>>
>>45236740

He turns back to Kaito. "Forgive my manners. Welcome back, Kaito. I understand you may have had a brush with some deadly foliage as well---I am told you made a sudden journey to the Living Forest. How did it fare?"

Mileena stands alongside Kotal, her arms crossed, giving Kaito a curious look, while Ruby looms in the background.

"I require a medic, Emperor," Kaito says, causing Mileena to drop her arms and approach. "It is very important."

"What happened?" she asks.

Kotal nods and turns to his side, replying before Kaito can speak to Mileena. "Ruby here is well-learned in medicine. Where shall I send her?"

"My boat, the Dragon Wing," Kaito replies. "There, my friend Kenshi lies wounded from being run through by his own sword."

Kotal Kahn turns back after sending Ruby off. "I recall the blind swordsman. How came he by such an injury?"

"The Red Dragon clan. Specifically, its leader, Daegon."

Kotal closes his eyes and lets out a small sigh. "Ah. So now the Red Dragon return to plague my lands once more."

"You are familiar with them?" Kaito asks.

"Not unlike their hated enemies, the Black Dragon, they have involved themselves in the politics of my realm. I know not who they support; General Reiko, Duroc's traitorous shokan, or another party entirely, but they and their mercenaries have been causing difficulties along the outlying regions of my territory, such as attacking caravans of trade. Your realm's Special Forces and Outer World Exploration Agency have clashed with them and the Black Dragon several times."

"Well, they were in the Living Forest. Or they were. They're all dead now."

"That is just as well," Kotal says. "I thank you for getting rid of them."

Mileena touches Kaito's arm. "Was anyone else wounded?"

"No, just Kenshi. When we found him, he was barely alive. We're lucky to have found him in time."

She nods and quietly reflects on this latest news.

Kaito nods at Mileena, who steps away. "About our private conversation, Emperor..." he begins.

Kotal Kahn nods. "Say no more. Follow me."

Kaito leaves Mileena in the gardens as Kotal passes through a large archway leading into his temple, walking by a series of flaming braziers and torches.

Eventually he leads Kaito down a series of stairs into a catacomb-like area. "This is one of the few things that remains of Shao Kahn's citadel," he explains. "There are no ears here, save for our own, and the dead. But I assure you that there is no danger from them."

He takes Kaito into an antechamber with a stone altar at its heart. He runs a hand along its dusty surface. "Now then, of what matter did you desire to speak?"

"Troubling news reached my ears while I was visiting Yanake," Kaito says. "Her city, Xun-Koto, is doing well."

"So I understand," Kotal replies. "What new troubles you?"

"The attempts on her life by a clan of earthrealm ninjas who claim they are backed by imperial koin," Kaito says, laying it out. Kotal is wise enough to understand the implication.

He puts his arms behind his back and walks around the altar. "It is fascinating that you bring this news in the wake of other matters that trouble me as well, and seem to be related."

"Which are?"

"I have recognized the sovereign right of Yanake to lead her people, up until recently. With my control over my lands secure, I have begun to turn my attention towards the sea, in the construction of a fleet. My navy is not yet as powerful as it can be, but one ship is enough to reach across the seas and extend my offer of friendship to her in this endeavor."

"You mean to say that you have done this? She made no mention of any such offer."
>>
>>45237500

"Because the ship was sent a year ago and I have not heard from them since," Kotal explains. "I am still investigating the matter of their disappearance, but unless Lady Yanake has lied to you, which I do not believe she would, then another group is likely reponsible for their disappearance. Perhaps, even, the very same group who hired these assassins and claimed to represent imperial interests---and I assure you, my interests do not lie in the assassination of someone you and I both consider an ally from the Earthrealm-Outworld War."

His stance is tall, confident and strong---there do not appear to be any indicators that he is lying to Kaito, but without some way to back up his claims, what is the human to do?

>>45237484
>>45237463

"I mean no offense to you, Emperor, but you must understand that they specifically referred to you by name when interrogated," Kaito says. "I wanted to speak to you in private due to my respect for you. Now, this man, under fear of torture, admitted no other group---so whoever it is that hired them must have some way to claim they represent you."

"Perhaps so," Kotal says, deep in thought.

"I admit that my first thought was that it was not truly you who had hired them," Kaito tells him. "I agree with you that someone else must be behind this matter."

Kaito studies the Kahn's face intently as the osh-tekk walks back around the altar. "Perhaps someone seeking to sow discontent between our two territories and foster hatred."

"Who would be willing to try such a thing?" Kaito asks.

"I mentioned General Reiko. He escaped judgment when his armies were defeated; now he commands only a few warbands. Certainly Duroc's shokan, though now they are led by his grandson Toron, and Motaro's minotaurians have much reason to weaken the alliances of my empire, though not enough for them to set aside their own hatred of each other to work together. Then there is the Black Dragon and the Red Dragon clans... Of course, there is another alternative."

"The men I sent on that mission may have betrayed me. If they were not killed, they could have been coerced. I am honored by the loyalty my kind and my followers show me, but even the most loyal of hearts can be purchased for the proper price."

"Is there any way we might be able to learn more about who would have been able to mount such an attack on your men, or who they could have come into contact with?" Kaito asks.

"I confess that I placed the issue of my missing men in the back of my mind, distracting myself with more pressing and urgent matters here in my own lands, but now that you have brought this news to me of assassins who claim to represent my interests, I shall begin a greater investigation into this. As for your end, I believe it would be prudent to return to Yanake and extract as much information from the assassins as possible. If they will not reveal anything more, then we will need to find an alternative method of discerning who truly hired them."

Kotal Kahn folds his arms once more, returning to his reflective state. Kaito does the same, leaning against the edge of the altar.

"I will indeed return to Yanake's lands soon, since I left some of my friends there to protect her. I'll see what else I can get out of the ninjas there. But I mean no offense, and I don't mean to implicate anyone, but as we discussed the possibility of the assassins truly believing your empire hired them, do you suspect that it could have come from a traitor here in the city? Possibly in your own court?"

Kotal looks at Kaito and measures his response. "Outworld is never without traitors," he says. "Shao Kahn betrayed Onaga. Kitana and Mileena both betrayed Shao Kahn. My rule is no different from theirs in this regard; we would be fools to think there is no possibility of betrayal from within my own court. But I will never suspect anyone without cause or proof that discredits them in my eyes."

"Of course," Kaito says. "But still, is there any--"

Kaito stops as they both hear the sounds of running footsteps. A guard has run into the catacombs and searches for them frantically before finding them. "Kotal Kahn! Kotal Kahn! A fight has broken out in the city!"

"What of it?" the Emperor asks.

"You do not understand. They are tearing the streets apart! One of them is made out of stone, and the other one is made out of fire! The one who set the cart alight earlier today!"

"Cinder... and Tremor!" Kaito says.

Kotal Kahn looks at him. "That Black Dragon hound is within the walls of my city?" he asks with rising anger.

Kaito runs a hand through his hair. Why are they fighting? They share a connection due to both being sons of shards of the Broken Goddess---could that have something to do with it?

As Kotal storms for the stairs, Kaito runs alongside him. "Emperor, I have to ask you to let me handle this. Tell your men not to engage them."

"If they are destroying my city, I shall do what I must," he replies.

"But they are my charge," Kaito says. "I brought them here."

Kotal stops and looks at him. "You brought Tremor into my city?"

"Not into the city proper, but to the docks. That's where he must have met Cinder..."

"He has a death warrant for his association with the Black Dragon! Surely you seek no allies amongst that hated clan..."

"No! Of course not! But he has assured me he has left the Black Dragon. Tremor helped me fight the Red Dragon in the Living Forest, he helped me save Kenshi."

"Because he is Black Dragon and thus enemies with the Red Dragon," Kotal says. "I cannot accept the word of a known criminal. Leaving the clan excuses no crimes he perpetrated whilst among them. He has been charged with the crimes of the group he is associated with and will be brought to justice."

Kaito watches Kotal march to the stop of the stairs and begin speaking to his lieutenants. Kaito runs up and runs to the hallway leading out into the gardens. At first he sees nothing, but then, in the distance, there is an explosion of fire that rises high into the night sky before being followed by a building crumbling down alongside it.

Kaito wastes no time and follows the sounds of destruction and screams. The truly worrisome thing is that Kaito does not discover the site of their battle first, but rather the trail of their battle; broken buildings, boulders, scorched earth and burnt market stands.

He follows the trail until he finds them both locked in one of the fierced battles he's ever witnessed. Their fight seems less like two men battling and more like two forces of nature clashing against each other, destroying everything around them.

Tremor raises a stone wall before him as Cinder unleashes a torrent of fires that utterly blackens the wall. The brown ninja punches his side of it, creating a projectile boulder from its center that flies at him. Cinder vanishes into a fiery whisp, allowing the boulder to pass right through him and smash into a building, toppling it like a bowling ball hitting pins.

Cinder appears behind and above Tremor, materializing in the air and spiraling downwards with a fiery kick, but Tremor raises a hand, covering it in stone and blocks it. The shockwave of the impact knocks sand and dust at their feet away.

Tremor teaches up and grabs Cinder's leg with his other hand, his rocky fingers undamaged by the burning limb, and he spins in place before tossing him into an abandonned fruit stand.

Tremor points a finger. "He must be destroyed."

Cinder raises both arms before bringing them in quickly, destroying the cart around him with a burst of power. He stands up. "If that bastard thinks he can take me down, he really is stoned."

"Your jokes are unamusing and you will soon be dead," Tremor says.

"There can be only one," Cinder hisses.

They both begin to advance towards the other, both walking straight towards Kaito in the middle.

Kaito continues to stand between them, holding up his hands. "Both of you, stop it! Kotal Kahn will attempt to execute you both! Don't make me bring your mothers into this!"

Tremor approaches Kaito and turns one hand into a stone-hammer before viciously slamming the human aside. Kaito is sent flying through the air, smashing into a nearby crate. The orange ninja and brown ninja resume their battle, trading titantic blows of elemental might.

Kaito picks himself up, rubbing his head. "Oh, you are SO getting used as an anchor..." he says as he attempts to stand up. He stumbles forward as he slips on a piece of wood.

Someone is there to catch him---Mileena. "Kaito!" she says, helping him to his feet.

"Mileena, what the hell is going on?" he asks as they both watch Cinder dropkick Tremor into the side of a brick wall. The earth ninja slams both hands on the wall and frees himself, shattering the wall behind him.

"No one knows," Mileena says. "I returned to the boat after parting from you in the gardens only to discover them already battling! They damaged part of the ship!"

"The ship!? How is it!?"

"Not badly harmed, but all attempts from the crew to stop either of them failed! They simply saw each other and resorted to this!"

Tremor tackles Cinder to the ground, who vanishes in his hands. He appears behind Tremor, who encases himself in stone in order to shield himself from the coming storm of flames.

"They will not listen to anyone," she repeats. "Something is compelling them to destroy each other!"

Kaito looks at Mileena and says, "We need to get them out of the city. Lead them to shore, away from the boat. There, maybe I can use my water powers to subdue them---at least Cinder."

"You go for the hot one, I'll go for the big guy," she says as she dashes off before Kaito can object to his lover's choice of words. She summons up her sai blades and throws both of them into his back, embedding them in the stony flesh before kicking him and grabbing them as he moves off.

He turns around, his eyes glowing with rage, as he chases her. Kaito sees his chance and runs to tackle Cinder, while also summoning the Staff of Raiden with a clap of thunder.

Kaito charges up to Cinder and attempts to tackle him, but the fiery warrior teleports out of his reach. "Don't try and get involved, Kaito!" Cinder warns him. "This is between me and that walking pile of pebbles!"

As Cinder walks off, Kaito grits his teeth, jumps up high, and brings the staff down on the warrior's head. The powerful nature of the artifact ensures he feels the power and weight of the attack, coupled with some stunning electricity.

Kaito scoops him up onto one shoulder, feeling pain from his burning skin, but charges down the road and towards the coast. Once clear of the city, Cinder starts to stir and grumble out words.

Having reached the Kove, Kaito dumps the body from his shoulder and looks around for his ship; it is further up the kove and docked. Some damage was sustained, but overall it is in working condition.

Cinder picks himself up and shakes his head. "What... What happened?"

"You don't remember?" Kaito asks.

"No... I saw something and I blanked out," he replies. "I heard a voice in my head... There must be only one... There must be only one..."

"That's some Highlander shit, innit," Kaito asks as he helps Cinder up. "But what does it---"

Just then, Tremor bursts onto the scene from a nearby pile of rocks, sending them flying outwards. He roars as he brings both fists together in a stone scythe that chops down.

Kaito brings up a kick and plants it on Cinder's chest, pushing him back and himself at the same time so the attack misses.

Cinder and Tremor both go right back into it as he looks up. Mileena runs up and helps Kaito to his feet.

"What now?" she asks.

"We need to separate them or hit them on the head really, really hard," he says.

Kaito holds out a hand to the ocean as Cinder and Tremor go at it. He reaches out to the water, concentrating as hard as he can, grabbing a large wave. He pushes it onto the land and causes it to crash onto the both of them.

Cinder manages to teleport away, but Tremor remains, standing strong against the pull of the water. Like a rock jutting up from the waves, Kaito is unable to make him budge.

Cinder reappears further up the beach. Just then, Mileena runs down to stand alongside Kaito in the sand.

"You cannot interfere," Tremor says. "We must--"

He stops, sensing something. Cinder senses it too---something, no, someone else is coming.

The clouds overhead begin to darken and a light drizzle begins to fall.

"Uh oh..." Kaito whispers to himself.

The water out at sea suddenly surges upwards. All assembled look out at the rising wave, larger than Kaito can form with his own power, and see a dark shape taking form within it. "Look out!" Kaito shouts as the wave suddenly rushes forwards, as though compelled by a powerful force, onto the beach.

Kaito holds up his hands as Mileena hides behind him. He uses his water manipulation to cut into the current and divert it to either side of himself, creating a shield that causes them both to not be harmed or swept away. Tremor roots himself into the sand with rocky legs, but Cinder is extinguished and reduced to mortal form, taken back by the current.

The wave reaches far onto the land, much farther than any normal tidal creation, pushing Cinder back towards the city. Eventually, the water all retracts, bleeding off of the land and back into the ocean.

Standing on the beach in its place is a man. He wears purple clothing, and has long black hair.

Rain.

The edenian prince looks at Tremor and Cinder... and then at Kaito.

"You..." he mutters.

Tremor smashes his hands together. "Another one..."

"Fucking NOW?" Kaito says as he and Mileena look on. "Fuck off, puddle, I'm busy here. I've already got two elementally-charged demigods here and Kotal Kahn is about to march down here and--"

Rain holds up a hand and blasts Kaito with a jet of water. It pushes him back, but the human manages to deflect it after a moment. "You're not my concern," he says to him as he turns his attention to Tremor. "You, however, are."

"You must be destroyed," Tremor says.

Rain holds up a hand. Strangely, he doesn't appear to be quite as uncontrollably murder-happy as either of them. "The same is true for you. Consider this, however---I can destroy the fiery one. Let me handle him and finish him off, then it will be just the two of us."

Tremor is still for a moment. "Work quickly," he demands.

Rain looks back at Kaito. "Knowing this one, he will try to stop me. Don't let him."

He slips away in a puddle as Tremor turns his attention to Kaito, who looks up at him and doesn't like the look on his face.

"Tremor, what the hell has gotten into you?"

"Only one can remain," he says as he begins advancing towards Kaito and Mileena.

"I will handle the Traitor of Edenia!" Mileena claims. Kaito nods, summoning a gust of wind to propell her up into the air and towards Cinder, whom Rain is advancing upon. Mileena howls and tackles him to the ground, eager to pay him back for his crimes to Edenia.

Kaito creates another gust of wind and blasts Tremor. The attack is surprisingly effective! He stumbles slightly and Kaito charges in to deliver a series of powerful punches to the man's stomach, which feels like he is punching a rock, and is about as effective.

Tremor looks down at him. Kaito pauses after punching him again, staring up. He leaps back as Tremor brings both fists down, hitting the ground and creating a shockwave through the sand. Kaito jumps over the shockwave and summons his lightning staff, aiming at Tremor's limbs, but the Earth elemental stomps on the ground, creating a small boulder and launching it up to punch towards Kaito.

Kaito smacks it aside with the staff like the baseball bat before landing and preparing for his next attack. He wasn't able to get close enough to use the staff, but if he can get the right opening...

Kaito puts his hands together and blasts Tremor in the face with an updraft, taking him by surprise once more. The rock man seems strong against the water, but the wind seems to wear him down a bit. Kaito then charges in and blasts him with the staff, connecting it solidly to his chest. This knocks Tremor down, and he doesn't immediately get back up.

Kaito turns to look at Mileena and Rain, engaged in deadly, fast-pased kombat. Beyond them, however, is Kotal Kahn's forces, fast approaching!

As Kaito looks on, Tremor suddenly leaps up, his rage doubled!

Kaito closes his eyes and focuses. He reaches deep within himself... and gets really pissed off.

He pushes his hands to the ground and lifts himself up, pushing the rock off of his back. Tremor stops and turns around, sensing the earth manipulation.

Kaito lets out a powerful shout as he breaks the rock into several pieces, causing each of them to roll or fall off of him and into the sand! With another powerful push, he forces himself upwards.

He turns around and looks at Tremor, before holding up a hand... and levitating the rocks before him with the power of wind. He then pushes outwards, launching them at his foe!

Tremor blocks the first two, smashing them with his fists, but is hit by the next three, one right to his face, knocking off his mask. Tremor shakes his head as Kaito stomps a foot into the ground, causing a stone to jut upwards, before using his newfound earth manipulation to break it into more pieces and hurl them at him, this time adding fire to the stones to make them into small flaming projectiles!

Bit by bit, Kaito wears him down, until one final blow to the skull knocks the powerful, but spent, earth ninja unconscious.

Kotal Kahn and his warriors ride up on mounts, calling for blood. Rain sees this and delivers a sudden super-powerful watery roundhouse to Mileena, knocking her several yards away.

He looks at Kaito with narrow eyes.

"Nice to see you're up," he says. "We'll see each other soon."

He turns into a puddle and bleeds into the sand. Kaito attempts to use his tremorsense, but the oncoming army is too loud. Kotal Kahn rides up astride a massive cat-like beast. He looks down at the unsoncious Cinder and Tremor.

"No words," Kotal Kahn says, pointing a macuahuitl at him. "Justice must be brought to those who brought this chaos to my city."

"Then punish me, for I brought them both, but what I did not know is that there is some force, some prophecy or such, something greater and larger at stake, that is forcing them to attack each other."

"They are the ones at fault," Kotal Kahn says. "I'll not punish you for not knowing a thing you could not know. Tremor is a criminal, the one you call Cinder is a wildfire who refuses to be contained."

Mileena holds up a hand and goes to defend them alongside Kaito. "Emperor, these beings are edenian!"

There are whispers amongst the crowd. The Emperor seems unphased. "What of it? They are in Outworld and thus subject to Outworld's laws."

"Let the edenian royal family make a donation to your city to repair the damage these two have done, in exchange for us bringing them into custody."

The guards look around at each other before looking at their leader.

Kotal Kahn gets off his cat and strides forward. "You ask me to release two criminals into your custody. You, the ones who brought them here. We engaged in peaceful talk before ruin and destruction was brought within my walls. Homes destroyed and livelihoods ruined." He holds up his sword. "I refuse your offer. They will be brought to my dungeons and executed when next the sun rises."

Kaito looks up at Kotal Kahn. He knows he doesn't want to do this to someone whom he considers an ally, but the Emperor is set in his ways---only one thing will change his mind now.

Kaito takes a step forward. "Kotal Kahn, I invoke the right to challenge. I challenge you to Mortal Kombat!"

A hush falls over the crowd. Kotal Kahn stares at Kaito, knowing that to decline would bring dishonor. The challenge, to someone like Kotal, is simply not questionable.

He stabs his sword into the sand, his eyes glowing red. "I accept your challenge!"

"The conditions are that, upon my victory, I will take these two into my custody," Kaito says. "Upon your victory, they will be given to you to judge as you see fit."

"I accept your terms," Kotal says, and the guards watch as he goes to meet Kaito on even footing. "Know that I am not and will not be intimidated by your defeat of Shao Kahn. I shall not yield or hold back until one of us knows defeat."

"I wouldn't have it any other way," Kaito says, preparing himself.

Kotal takes out a wooden dagger covered in spikes and cuts his own hand, drawing blood that pools below before draining into the sand. "May the Elder Gods witness this battle the bless the blood that shall be spilt."

The osh-tekk and his warriors cheer as he gets ready.

As Kotal Kahn steps back, he raises his hands and summons forth a glowing totem from the ground. The magic of the totem seems to impart some kind of power upon him, making his attacks more potent and powerful. He wastes no time in charging in with an attempt to grapple Kaito.

However, the human instead leaps backwards, towards the shore, concentrating and bringing forth a stream of water from the ocean. Like a cannon aimed through his hands, he sprays Kotal Kahn with a powerful jet of water, hosing the Emperor down and washing away the enchantment when he blasts the totem to pieces. Kaito then rushes in as the Emperor is distracted and delivers a watery jetstream uppercut, knocking the Emperor back.

After a moment, Kotal Kahn gets up, soaked. Kaito runs in and grabs the Emperor's left arm and jams his knee into it, bending it back a bit, causing him to roar in pain.

Kotal stomps on Kaito's back before walking away, giving Kaito a moment to pick himself back up as he once more takes out his dagger to cut his hand, drawing further blood from his self-inflicted injury; but this only seems to grant him more fighting strength and spirit.

>>45246030

Kaito realizes that this is his chance to hit Kahn in the royal jewels! He charges in, performs the splits, and---

Kotal plants a boot in his face. Kaito falls back as the Emperor advances, picking him up by the neck before leaping into the air whilst pulling Kaito downwards to slam his face directly into his rising knee.

Kaito sees stars for a moment before he falls down, tumbling down a small hill.

>>45246049

Kotal, atop the hill, smiles and holds up his knife. He descends at a leizurely pace, thinking Kaito defeated after that last attack. However, the human suddenly shoots upwards, propelled by a summoned gust of wind, upwards-dive-kicking the Emperor's legs! Kotal rolls down the hill and Kaito summons a small boulder in the perfect place---right where Kotal's head ends up.

The Emperor and Kaito both pick themselves up, weary, bloody and battered.

This will be the final exchange; they both know it.

The question is who will be on the receiving end.

Kaito summons the Staff of Raiden once more and points it at the Emperor, blasting him with bolt after bolt after bolt of lightning. The Emperor holds his arms up to his face, taking the strikes, but then begins taking steps, slowly stepping closer and closer.

"Up the stair path..."

Kaito continues to unleash the lightning, but every second draws the Emperor nearer and nearer. The guards cheer at this display of power; Ferra and Torr cry out from the sidelines and Reptile, Erron Black and D'Vorah all stand, silently observing even as Kaito's bolts burn the Emperor's skin and clothing.

"To the fire's edge..."

Kaito's eyes widen as the Emperor advances, nearly within grabbing range.

"I pray the sky..."

He reaches out and takes hold of the staff, grabbing the source of the electricity directly before wrenching it out of Kaito's grasp and throwing it aside. He then throws out both arms and roars as the night clouds above part to reveal the blazing light of the sun from far above.

"TO SCORCH THE LAND!"

A beam of light shoots forth from the heavens and scorches Kaito where he stands, blasting him with a wave of intense heat. Kaito shouts in pain as the fiery power nearly blinds him before he closes his eyes and holds up his arms to try and block out the immense brightness of the searing light cutting through the skies to burn him.

Kaito falls to the ground as the light goes away, the clouds sealing.

Kotal Kahn stands over Kaito, panting, victorious. He thrusts a hand up and lets out a triumphant roar; the crowd goes wild as Mileena runs up to Kaito and helps him sit up.

Kotal Kahn is badly burnt, but he is the one who remains standing. He looks down at Kaito. "I now take the criminals into my custody."

He reaches down and offers Kaito his hand.

Hey by the way man I'm really liking your Oni quest.

His inner flame still burns.

Kaito opens his eyes. Mileena tries to help, but he pushes her away. He rises to a standing position, slightly smoking, his clothing scorched.

He opens his mouth, and lets out a cry heard by all assembled and sends a shiver down the spines of many.

"KAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHNNNN!"

The Emperor's hand lowers, looking at the semi-charred man. Kaito's hands curl into fists.

"It's not over," he says wearily, holding up his hands. "I didn't hear no bell."

"You are beaten," Kahn replies, shaking his head. "Accept defeat."

"I'll never be beaten until I am dead," Kaito says, spitting out blood. Mileena watches from behind, her orange eyes wide and fearful for his life.

"I do not wish to take it, but if that is the only way you shall see the end of this battle, then I shall grant you a warrior's death!"

Kotal takes out his knife and his eyes glow red once more. "AKAYAMA KAITO, PREPARE YOURSELF!"

He charges in and Kaito lets out a bloody roar to meet him with flaming fists.

Kotal stabs downwards with the knife and Kaito punches into the dagger, shattering it. The fist follows through and smashes Kotal Kahn in the face, followed by another, and another, and another. In mere seconds, Kahn is sent stepping backwards as Kaito unleashes a devastating assault, his fists leaving flaming impacts on the osh-tekk's skin. But then, he adds wind to the onslaught, pushing his arms to fly faster and harder. The final touch is when he stomps on the ground and summons a stone that he then punches into Kotal Kahn's chest, before exploding it from within into flaming chunks, sending Kotal Kahn flying backwards into the dirt.

Kaito stands over him with bloody, flaming fists, panting harder than he's panted in twenty years. Everyone watches in dead silence as Kaito stands over the Emperor's body.
>>
>>45247051

Kotal Kahn stirs, and attempts to get back up, turning onto one side... and then falling over onto his back, beaten.

Kaito then does the same, but Mileena is there to catch him. She holds him close and keeps him warm and propped up as she brings him down to a sitting position.

The Emperor's servants close in and help him up. Kotal Kahn groans in pain, his face bloody.

He is the first to speak.

"Let it... be known... by all..." he says, managing to stand on his own two feet. "...That Akayama Kaito is the victor."

He then steps forward to offer Kaito his hand, and Kaito accepts it. With Mileena and Kotal's help, he is pulled to a standing position.

Kotal places a hand on his shoulder. "You are the one who slew Shao Kahn. I was wrong to think that you would not battle to the death. You withstood my most powerful attacks..."

"And you mine," Kaito says. "Then, I claim the prisoners... And I swear to you, Kotal Kahn, that they will not return by my hand to your city."

Mileena is quick to add, "And King Jerrod and Queen Sindel will assist in rebuilding the damaged sections of your city, as an act of goodwill and an apology for these Edenian warriors damaging it."

Kotal Kahn nods. "I accept your terms in accordance with the honorable rules of Mortal Kombat." He bows as best he can, and Kaito does as well.

They both leave the beaches; Kotal and his army returning to the city, and Kaito heading to the boat with Mileena, Tremor and Cinder, the latter two carried by members of the Dragon Wing's crew.

Now comes the issue of what to do when they awaken...

Kaito awakens slowly, feeling something soothing. He is lying down in bed in his cabin, his lower half wrapped up in his sheets, as Mileena sits alongside him, gently rubbing his skin. She dips her hands into a wooden bowl, bringing up a green fluid that she works inot his skin through massaging his muscles.

He smells; the scent is sharp and strange. "What is that?" he asks softly.

"Burn ointment," she replies, working her fingers across his chest. He has to admit, despite her rough nature, she can be very soft and caring when she desires to. She coaxes him into laying down and not moving while she continues to apply the cream.

Kaito closes his eyes. "Tremor? Cinder?"

"Alive, awake, separated," Mileena says quickly. "As is Kenshi, though Takeda attends to him."

"What about Rain?" Kaito asks. "Any further sign of the Traitor of Edenia?"

"No," she says. "We knew he was hiding in Outworld... He must have been drawn to the battle between Cinder and Tremor. Something larger is going on."

"The sons of the Broken Goddess, forced into battle on sight... But why was Rain unaffected, I wonder?"

"Perhaps he is, he just directs it a different way," Mileena offers. "He still wanted to kill Cinder."

Kaito sighs as Mileena continues to apply the ointment, enjoying the sensations of her fingers dancing across his skin. "You were very strong," she compliments him. "Perhaps you deserve a reward."

She leans forward to kiss him, gently yet passionately, for a moment before pulling away. "And also rather stupid and reckless."

"That's me, the strong, stupid, reckless hero," Kaito laughs.

Mileena helps him stand and points him to a table where she has new clothes laid out. He dresses himself quickly, as he knows that he has things to get to.

He heads out onto the deck, seeing that it is morning. Kaito looks around at the crew before being approached by Jon of Haven. "We've got the fiery one below deck under watch. The stone one's on shore."

Kaito looks out onto the beach and sees Tremor sitting there on his knees, apparently deep in some form of meditation.

Buturo, the tigrar of the crew, reports that Cinder is currently asleep and a little bit drunk, as after he returned last night, he broke into the wine stores and had his fill.

Kaito steps off the boat and approaches Tremor along the shoreline. He stands a few meters away before he speaks.

"So what was that all about, exactly?"

"I do not know."

"That's helpful."

Tremor opens his eyes and looks at Kaito. "I was overcome by a murderous rage the moment I laid eyes upon him. The purple one as well, though he persuaded me otherwise. I was not myself."

"And do you know why?"

"Never have I not been in control of myself. The battle I fought with him, I was not in control. Not of my actions, not of my words. 'There can be only one... Only one must remain...' I do not understand any of it."

"I'm just glad I was able to stop you."

"This time."

"Well, now we have a problem," Kaito says, folding his arms. "I need to take both of you away from here but I cannot have you destroying my boat. So, what am I to do?"

"I will wait."

"What?"

Tremor looks over. "I shall wait here. Take the fiery one where you please. Until then, I shall meditate on this thing that overtook me. None shall bother me."

"Yeah, but---" Kaito stops himself as he watches Tremor encase himself completely in stone. The rolling waves up the shore do nothing but wash against him; he remains immobile.

Kaito sighs. Tremor is a stubborn, rock-headed one.

Kaito decides to leave Tremor here for now before heading back to the boat and going below deck. There, he finds the viking Wolf, Ugly, Biggs and Wedge watching over Cinder, who is currently lying in a hammock with a bottle of wine in one hand.

Kaito sits down on a crate and speaks to him. "Cinder? You all there in the head?"

"This stuff is great," he says, holding up the wine. "Why didn't you guys tell me how great this was? I've been missing out on this for centuries!" He laughs and hiccups a bit.

Kaito rubs his eyes before asking, "What happened to you when you saw Tremor?"

"Blacked out," Cinder says. "I'm getting... flashes. Bits and pieces. But otherwise I recall just the voices. 'Only one, only one, only one,' and such. Gave me such a headache..."

The edenian feline sits contentedly in her lap as she strokes its back. Vapor looks up as he enters.

"Aw, come on dad," Takeda says, scratching the back of his head.

Kaito pats Kenshi gently on the shoulder. "After twenty years, I think he's got a right to be a little sappy."

Kenshi's smile fades after a moment. "I almost had him..." he says. "Daegon."

"Why didn't you call for backup, dad?" Takeda asks. "Why try to take them on alone?"

Kenshi turns his head a bit in the direction of his son. "You know what I told you before, Takeda... about your mother."

"She was killed by the Red Dragon," he says. Kaito listens closely.

"Not mere Red Dragon assassins as I once believed," he replies. "But by Daegon himself."

Takeda is silent at first, but after a moment, he asks, "Then, is it time? Are you finally going to stop hunting them alone?"

"I now know that I cannot defeat him by myself," Kenshi says. "I was foolish in thinking that I should keep you out of danger. I am sorry, my son."

Kaito speaks up. "So, you two are going to hunt him together, then?"

"Well, you guys are welcome to stay on the Dragon Wing as long as you like," Kaito tells them. But I gotta know, just who is this Daegon?"

"Not much of him is known, even by me, and I've been hunting him for a long time now," Kenshi says, sitting up a bit. "Daegon is said to be a sorcerer, having lived for more than a thousand years. His followers believe he will swallow the souls of those who do not die in his service, or betray him by revealing information. Of Daegon himself, now that I have faced him in battle... He is powerful, with a steel will. I could not read his mind and he wielded the power of fire, as though conjured from a dragon's breast. He seemed to shrug off each and every attack from Sento, battling me with two powerful swords of his own, each imbued with powerful magic."

Kaito watches as Kenshi puts his hand up to his head. He focuses intently and places an image of Daegon into both of their minds. Daegon is bald, with some facial hair, and a scar going down his right eye---it reminds Kaito of the one shared by Sub-Zero and his son, Zian.

That, however, suddenly leads to another thought... There is a tattoo upon Daegon's face, of a dragon, curving downwards. Kaito has seen this symbol before...

"The Lin Kuei temple..." Kaito whispers. Kenshi and Takeda look at him.

"What?" Takeda asks, but Kenshi understands.

"You have seen it before... his tattoo."

"Upon a door, a vault in the temple. It had two halves, one open, one sealed... the open half bore his tattoo, while the sealed door had its mirror, with the dragon going upwards."

"There is a connection," Kenshi agrees. "But I know not what it could be..."
>>
>>45254816

Kaito allows Kenshi some more rest as he leaves to think about this latest turn of events. Daegon has some kind of connection to that door, but what, he wonders? Takeda leaves his father's side to go speak with Kaito out of earshot of his old man.

"Kaito," Takeda says, catching up to him, "I was wondering something."

"About Daegon, right? Or the Red Dragon? Well, now I'm interested in finding them too. This mystery is getting deeper and deeper..."

Takeda averts his eyes slightly. "Not... quite, no. I was wondering... who is that girl down below? The one in grey?"

Kaito pauses and looks at the young chujin. "...Why, if you don't mind me asking?"

Takeda leans up against the wall, suddenly making an attempt to look natural. "Nothing, no reason, just curious."

Kaito can't help but smile at Takeda's attempt to hide the truth.

"Oh..." he says, nodding a bit. "Okay. That's, that's cool." He scratches his ear a bit. "Well, we should probably get going, huh?" he asks, trying to change the subject. "What was it? Back to Xun-Koto and Grandmaster Hasashi?"

"They're probably fine," Kaito says, "they can wait a few minutes more. I'll go talk to Vapor and see if she doesn't mind talking to you."

As Kaito walks off, Takeda grabs his arm. "No! I mean, that's fine, I can handle it. I just wanted to know who she was, that's all. I'll be with dad. Don't talk to her about me, please."

He leaves and heads back into the room, leaving Kaito rather bemused.

He briefly wonders if Scorpion or Kenshi ever gave Takeda 'the talk'...

Kaito heads onto the deck and places his staff upon the hull. He commands the ship to pull away from the dock and begins navigating it out into open waters, leaving the kove and the city of Z'unkahrah behind.

Thick mist begins to cover the ship, and in moments, they are brought across the sea, once more to the shore on which they have departed to travel to Xun-Koto a few times in the past.

"Yanake really needs to get a lake next to her city," Kaito says to himself as the group prepares to leave. Kenshi, having fallen asleep, is left on the boat as Kaito, Mileena, Takeda, an inebriated Cinder and Buturo climb into the longboat, with the tigrar once more rowing them to shore and waiting for their return.

The four of them head to the city, and once within its walls, approach the palace. There, they meet Forest Fox, Takeda's fellow chujin.

Kaito explains everything that happened while he was in Kotal Kahn's land. The news is distressing in some places, but Yanake is pleased that the Emperor is not the one behind the assassination attempts. Still, the matter of not knowing who truly is greatly worries her.

Hanzo tells Kaito that the Tengu clan captives are still in the dungeons. He has interrogated them more himself, but they have revealed nothing further than what they already have.

"Their leader, the one they call Wu Lae, is in Earthrealm," Scorpion tells him. "Apparently, their territory is exceptionally close to the Lin Kuei's lands in Arctika."

Kaito looks over at Yanake and asks, "Well, what would you like to do next?"

She contemplates for a moment. "I would like to see if the assassinations will cease now that we have defeated a group of them," she says. "Or, perhaps, they will attempt to strike again, with a stronger force. Perhaps the third group involved, the ones who hired them, will come out in force or reveal themselves through an error in judgment."

"Are you sure it's safe to bait them?"

"We did it before," she says, giving a smile to Hanzo. "And they were defeated. Remember that I am no princess who cannot defend herself, but now that I have allies in this fight, my confidence is doubly bolstered."

Hanzo nods in agreement. "The Shirai Ryu will maintain a presense here in the city, hidden until the right moment. We will wait for the enemy to reveal himself again. However, if you decide to pursue this Wu Lae, I would not stop you from doing so."

Kaito listens to them and understands. "Alright, seems like you have it well thought-out, and I can't deny how effective plan was the first time. Do you know where Master Bo' has gone to?"

"He returned to his school to fetch some students to add to the city's defense," Yanake says. "He said he would return later tonight."

See if we can get a line to Raiden asking for Fujin. Surely the god of wind would know where an air demigod would lurk.
>>

That could work, he also might have an idea on who would want the the demigods to fight (argus?)

Kaito thanks them and excuses himself. He heads to another balcony and takes out the Staff of Raiden, sitting down and meditating with it. He focuses intently with it, seeking to establish a line of communication to Raiden.

He reaches out with this mind, connecting to the power of the staff. He focuses, feeling in touch with the electrical power contained within---a familiar sensation.

The Staff of Raiden containts a fragment of the god's power, and so he calls to him through it, using a combination of his own meditation, affinity to lightning and the training he received from Nightwolf.

A vision of Raiden appears.

"Kaito," he greets him. "I sense much trouble within you. What can I do?"

"Alright, well, a LOT has happened since coming to Outworld. I fought Kotal Kahn in Mortal Kombat and defeated him in order to secure the freedom for two sons of the Broken Goddess and Argus of Edenia, Tremor and Cinder, who for some reason are compelled to battle to the death over some kind of rage-induced vision that fogs their minds telling them that, "There can be only one!" and so they fought each other and nearly leveled a city doing so before Rain showed up since it turns out he's also one of the four sons and now I need to figure out a place to put them so they don't kill each other. On top of all of this but unrelated, Turana is now the Arch-Sorceress of Anubis, you know, the one from Egyptian mythology, and he's hanging out with the other two only remaining gods from their realm, and she's done a lot of really mortally questionable things in his service."

Raiden takes a moment to soak all that in. "Well, is that all?" he asks.

"Not really."

"Well, before we delve too deeply, let me tell you what I know of the Broken Goddess. I never met her, but once I met with Argus during a summit in heaven during which the Elder Gods spoke to us and many other gods. This was long ago. Argus spoke to me of many things, but chief among them was Armageddon; the end of all things. He was convinced that it was coming. That was many millenia ago, before his death. Fujin was more closely known to Argus and his family; there was a time when he visited many realms. Perhaps he can speak more on this, but he is currently away from the Sky Temple."

"Where is he, if you do not mind my asking?" Kaito says. "I was hoping to inquire to him about the one known as Wind, a shard of the Broken Goddess, in particular if he knew her or her son."

"He has travelled to the Temple of the Elements in the Himalayan Mountains, where I have housed the Amulet of Shinnok. He guards it there with three other gods. I can send for him if you wish."

"What of the Egyptian gods?"

"They, like many others throughout Earthrealm's history, are dieties from another realm whom primitive earthrealmers once worshipped. Just as Kotal Kahn himself was once Buloc, God of War of the Aztec peoples, so too were they before their realm was conquered and most of their pantheon killed off by Shao Kahn."

"Well, Anubis seems to want it back from Kotal Kahn. What should we do?"

"Unless the matter concerns Earthrealm, I cannot advocate either side in the matter."

"What of Argus? How did he die?"

"It is not known to me, nor anyone else. They were both found murdered, their souls destroyed. Their bodies were impaled and left to rot inside their temple in Edenia long ago. Fujin was particularly devastated, for he knew Argus well; he spoke fondly of their sons, Taven and Daegon."

"Daegon?!" Kaito says, nearly shooting upwards. "Daegon is a son of Argus?"

"Yes, why?"

"He is the master of the Red Dragon clan! He murdered Kenshi's wife and nearly killed him as well---I found him in the Living Forest near death and saved him!"

Raiden's brow furrows. "Daegon leads the Red Dragon... To think, he has eluded me all this time..."

"Do you think he may have a connection to the Tengu Clan of ninjas?"

"I am unfamiliar with such a clan," Raiden admits. "What of them?"

"They are an Earthrealm ninja clan that have been hired to kill Yanake. We foiled their attempts and they claimed to have been hired by Kotal Kahn, but my discussion with the Emperor tells me otherwise. We both believe a third party is involved. Could it be the Red Dragon?"

"I do not know," Raiden says. "It is possible, but speculation is difficult. But I will not allow an Earthrealm clan to get involved with Outworld politics. What else do you know of them?"

"They are in Artika. Perhaps the Lin Kuei could hunt them down and speak to their leader, Wu Lae."

"I shall send word to Grandmaster Sub-Zero immediately," Raiden says.

Kaito rubs his forehead. "Two more sons of Argus... Wait a minute..."

He suddenly recalls something he learned during his time as Otiak, the saurian sorcerer. In the Library of Order within Seido, he read a book about Armageddon.

"I can't believe I completley forgot about it all," he says. "But I read about Taven and Daegon once. Honestly, I must have just thought it unimportant at the time and left it behind. It is said that both sons mysteriously vanished before the deaths of Argus and Delia."

Kaito is silent for a moment. "Do you believe Daegon may have killed them? His parents? Impaled and left to rot is how we found Kenshi."

"Perhaps," Raiden says. "If so, I can only wonder at the truth behind it all..."

"Do you know any other sons of Argus? Because I'm up to at least six on my end and I've had a hell of a time trying to deal with three of them."

"No. But perhaps Fujin would know more... I sent for him earlier in our conversation. He has arrived."

A vision of Fujin appears in Kaito's mind alongside Raiden.

"Well met, Akayama Kaito," Fujin says to him. "Raiden tells me you seek knowledge?"

Kaito takes the time to fill Fujin in on all the details of what he has uncovered when it comes to the sons of Argus. Daegon's Red Dragon, Rain, Tremor and Cinder, along with the fourth.

"So, I have to ask, just how many people did Argus bang?"

"Argus was a complicated man," Fujin says. "He loved the goddess who we now know to be the Broken Goddess, but also loved an edenian, Delia, the Lady of Flame. She bore him two sons; Taven and Daegon. But the four shards of the goddess, Earth, Wind, Fire and Water, also bore him halfgod sons, as they were no longer goddesses themselves but edenians."

"So, what? Did he bang them all individually, or was it like all in one night, or---"

Fujin holds up a hand. "I know nothing about how or why he chose to continue loving the broken shards of the goddess. He is dead, so he cannot speak for himself on the matter either."

"I like to think it was all in one night," Kaito says.

"Regardless, there are now six sons of Argus. He was a driven man, who rarely did things for a reason. I believe his children, all of them, have some role to play in what he believed would be Armageddon."

"And what of Taven and Daegon, the sons of Delia? How well did you know them?"

"I knew them when they were children up until adulthood. Taven, the elder, always won their competitive games. Their parents fostered this competion between them, always giving them different challenges to overcome."

"And you're telling me that Argus and Delia had a plan for them, right?"

"Delia saw the future. Argus loved and believed her, and so everything they did was in some design they kept to themselves. They were secretive about their true goals and would not share them, even though I was a friend to their family."

"How long ago was all of this, anyway?"

"Long before Kitana was even born. In fact, Sindel was still very young and had yet to be married to Jerrod."

"She didn't bear any young to Argus, did she?"

"I don't believe so. I am certain there are only six children... Until more show up, that is."

"What of the shard known as Wind? Do you know her or her son?"

"I never met Wind, but once I met a warrior who seems as though he could be her son. He is the only one in all my travels throughout the realms who matched my powers of air. He was clad almost entirely in white, disguising himself as a ninja. He called himself Typhoon."

"That seems like a good candidate. Where did you meet him?"

"In the polar regions of Edenia, long ago. I have not seen him since, so he could be anywhere."

"Well, I've run into half of the sons of Argus so far, so I figure it's only a matter of time until he, Taven and Daegon show up. Speaking of which... Now that we know Daegon is connected to Argus and that he founded the Red Dragon, do you think Taven could be with him as well?"

"I cannot say for certain," Fujin replies. "Taven and Daegon were both noble men, strong and full of heart in their youth. To think that Daegon now leads such a corrupt organization of the Red Dragon is truly disheartening... I can only hope that Taven has not fallen alongside him."

He prepares to wait for Master Bo' Rai Cho's arrival later that evening. During this time, he has dinner with Yanake and Scorpion along with others at the table. Kaito prepares wine, and when Bo' Rai Cho arrives, they immediately share a drink. Cinder, with his newfound fondness for alcohol, joins them eagerly, though it is not long before he passes out. Kaito regrets that Tortek is not here and promises to himself to visit him soon.

It is here now that Bo' Rai Cho introduces some of his students. They all look like strong, capable fighters, each distinct in their own way (save for prayer beads; each of them has some manner of prayer beads worn upon their person). He goes down the line and they each bow.

The final one in the line is a young woman, who wears yellow-orange clothing that leaves her athletic midsection exposed, has brown hair and bright green eyes, and carries a red staff in one hand. Purple prayer beads are worn like a necklace around her neck.

"And this is one of our top students," Bo' Rai Cho says with an air of pride. "Kaito, I would like to introduce you to Kung Ling."

"Kung Ling..." Kaito repeats the name. His eyes widen as he realizes he is staring at none other than Kung Lao's daughter! He holds out his hand. "It's nice to meet you, Ling."

She responds in turn, shaking his hand. "You as well," she says. "Stories of you have reached our school. It's an honor to meet someone as skilled as you."

Kaito remembers Kung Lao's words about his daughter, and what happened between them. She is both human and outworlder, and distant from her father---a point others have stressed not to bring up to her.

"Glad to meet you," Kaito says as they let go. "Perhaps I could get a demonstration of your skills sometime, or a sparring match."

"Perhaps so," she says, departing with the rest of the students.

"They won't drink with us?" Kaito asks Bo'.

"I forbid my students from drinking until their training is truly complete," Bo' says.

"That hardly seems fair," Kaito replies, "when you drink all the time!"

"Ah, but it is one of the triumphs of success, a reward. Some of them come to my school to seek inner-peace. Some of them come merely to learn how to fight. Some seek higher answers, or training for a goal later in life. But a drunken student will never learn any of these things until they are truly ready. The master? He already knows them! I say let him drink! Bwahahah!" Bo' Rai Cho lets out a mighty laugh as he takes another swig.

Kaito can't argue with that---and so he downs another swig himself.

He awakens the following morning after a night of drunken ramblings and laughter with Bo' Rai Cho. Mileena joined them as well, and Kaito was surprised to learn just how well she is capable of holding her drink before they both retired to their room, stumbling over each other. Though now he is paying the price; a powerful hangover.

He rubs his eyes and sits up, groggy. Mileena lays next to him, hogging most of the blankets. He cannot remember much of what they did last night, but now there are several new scratches on his arms and chest.

His body is becoming quite the road map, and not from kombat as it turns out.

Kaito slips his clothing on and checks around the room for his shoe before finding it hanging from a nearby candlestick, oddly enough. He steps outside and stretches, leaving Mileena to sleep in.

He checks Scorpion's room and finds it empty, strangely enough. 'Perhaps Yanake has him out on patrol with the Shirai Ryu,' he thinks to himself. He decides to proceed to her room and is about to knock on the door when it opens to reveal none other than the man he was looking for.

"Hanzo? What's up?"

"I am well," he says.

"Is Yanake in? I was just going to check in on---"

Hanzo stops Kaito from looking inside with a hand. "I... wouldn't," he says.

Kaito looks at the man and slowly smiles. "Don't tell me..."

"She is sleeping," Hanzo says, but not even a trained ninja master as him can contain the barest hint of a smile appearing at the edge of his lips.

"Hanzo, you dog!" Kaito nudges him with his elbow. "I was picking up signals between you two all of yesterday; are you telling me...?"

Scorpion closes the door behind him and walks; Kaito energetically follows him. "I have sought much in my life since I was restored to the living," Hanzo begins. "The rebirth of my clan, the return of its honor, atonement for the crimes I committed while working for Quan Chi. Once, my heart burned with nothing but vengeance for my love, Kana, and my son, Jubei... But before that, I lived a peaceful life of fulfilment with my family. Now, I have restored my clan, but out of obligation to my late wife, I never sought any other love."

They stop and look out over the city from the balcony. "But... I have found something with Yanake. A spark I did not know still existed within me was ignited and---"

Kaito cuts him off. "You did it! You actually, really did it!" He slaps Scorpion on the shoulder. "I'm proud of you, Hanzo!"

"Thank you for introducing me to her," he says, giving Kaito a broad smile. "I think great things shall come of this."

Less than an hour later, Kaito is cooking breakfast; Outworld boar bacon. Sending for his ship's cook, Nemo, Kaito personally oversees an elaborate breakfast for his friends. Though Nemo brought only seafood (due to his "allergy" to land animals) the meal is large and diverse. He respects Hanzo and Yanake's desires for privacy, but even so he has cause to celebrate and thus leads a toast to the future.

More members of the Dragon Wing's crew came along with Nemo and join them, along with Bo' Rai Cho and his students, including Ling, whom Takeda is having trouble not staring at. Kaito takes notice and realizes that he's going to have get Kenshi to have a chat with his son soon, or have one with him himself.

Then when one of us wins we take off the mask and compliment/scold him.
>>

It would be fun with anyone else, but in Tortek's case it might be fatal. Tarkatans follow the toughest alpha, as long as he is the toughest, and not a minute longer.

After bringing Scorpion up to speed on the situation with Kenshi, he agrees to let Takeda stay with his father. He has received training from the Shirai Ryu; now it is time for him to be trained by his father in the ways of expanding his mind.

Kaito is also quick to speak to Bo' Rai Cho about potentially receiving training at his school after he finishes up his business overseas. The master agrees and would be happy to train him.

Kaito makes plans to immediately depart for the Outworld wastelands to seek out the very first companion he made on his journey, the tarkatan Tortek.

Everyone knows about the Johnny idea?
>>
>>45260374
Bo Rai Cho himself doesn't seem to know. Besides, most of BRC's students are probably Outworlders, so they wouldn't be inceitivized to join an Earthrealm task force.
>>
>>45260478
I thought one of the major point of the plan is that it would be inter-realm task force. A common fighting force.
>>
>>45260512
Johnny's plan is first and foremost an Earthrealm defense plan. Keep in mind the original Kombat Kids are all Earthrealm kids.

Nobody said people from other realms can't get in on it. After all, the original Defenders had Edenians and Outworlders.
>>
>>45260572
That would actually be pretty cool. By having people from all the realms in it, and making it a indipendent organization, K-com could avoid the problems that sindel & jerrod were worried about
>>
>>45260876
The main issue is whether loyalties to their native realm will override their responsibilities. For example, if Kotal Kahn goes MAXIMUM SHITCUNT and goes on an offensive, how will that look for the Outworld members who do/don't support him?
>>
>>45260926
Simply have them be a defensive organisation to maintain balance, like tiny elder gods
>>
>>45260926
That's always an issue, this is why we have to select the members personally.
Our policy has to be open as well; we fight only agressors. If Earthrealm would want a piece of Outworld, then we would fight against Earthrealm.
But hopefully we won't have to deal wars, just conflicts and problems that go across realms. Like the Red Dragon.

Kaito returns to the Dragon Wing with Mileena and Takeda, leaving Cinder behind to help Yanake's people, under the watchful eye of Liu Kang and Scorpion. Once there, he sets sail for the wastelands of Outworld, south of Z'unkahrah.

The tarkatan among his crew, Ugly, accompanies them once they are on shore; the only other person with them is Mileena. He steps onto land and sniffs a few times. "Tarkatan scent strong this way," he says, leading them inland.

As they walk, Kaito carries a basket. "What is that?" Mileena asks him, sniffing. "Is that... food?"

"A gift for my old friend," Kaito says. "I haven't seen him in a while, and he hasn't seen me in longer."

As they come over a large hill, they survey a massive camp full of tarkatans moving between huts and massive pyres. There is a fighting pit, where two of them appear to be scraping, and several large animals in various states of slaughter are kept around the camp alongside fires for cooking.

Kaito, Mileena and Ugly walk down the hill, causing a group of tarkatans to run up to intercept them as soon as they are noticed.

"STOP RIGHT THERE, HUMAN!" the lead guard shouts. "This camp of Chief Tortek! You come for death or peace?"

"Peace," Kaito says, holding up the basket. "I bring a gift of good faith to your chieftain."

Some of them start sniffing near Mileena, who snarls at them and causes them to back away. They similarly regard Ugly with curiosity, for even by their standards he is not much to look at.

Under escort, they bring him into the village. Kaito looks around at the huts, spying a tarkatan female inside, apparently some kind of witchdoctor or voodoo priestess.

They are brought before the lead hut and a tarkatan goes inside to speak to their leader.
>>
>>45260926
That's true. Maybe we could have a thing were someone can join, but they have to have a tour of duty with K-com for a couple years or some period of time. During their tour they would be considered non-citizens of all the realms or something. Then after their tour is up they can go home or stay on?

Suddenly, the front of the hut opens and out strides Tortek; tall, strong, with several tarkatan arm-blades from rival kills strapped to his back and ritualistic warpaint covering his face. As it turns out, tarkatans only get spikier as they age, and so now Tortek has considerably larger spines on his face, the top of his head, arms and back.

But this does not stop him from opening his mouth and eyes wide in surprise as he looks upon Kaito, who smiles and holds out his arms wide.

Tortek rushes in and throws his arms around his friend. "KAITO!" he cries. "YOU ARE BACK!"

The tarkatans around them are confused, but some of them know his name. Whispers of "Shao Kahn killer! That must be Mileena!" run through the crowd.

Tortek holds him at arm's length. "But how? You gone for many years! Asleep!"

"I'm awake," Kaito says. "Look at you! Strongest there is?"

"Tortek strongest of the tarkatan! Tortek lead the tarkatan to prosper in the wastelands!" he claims. He then sniffs the air. "...Food?"

"More than that," Kaito says as he takes out a combination of land and sea food. He holds up a gourd of strong liquor. "Drink, too."

Tortek looks almost on the verge of tears as he receives this gift from his old friend---but that would be a sign of weakness, so instread he grabs at it and chows down before proclaiming how delicious it is. The tribe cheers.

For the next few hours, Kaito, Mileena and Ugly are treated to tarkatan hospitality, which isn't as bad as one would think (so long as you're on their side). Drums beat and they dance around the large fires, shouting and fighting. Tortek holds a celebration in Kaito's honor and much food is had by all; several hunting parties are blessed and sent out at the start of the festivities.

"Hunters go out, hunt big prey," Tortek explains. "Come back for feast. Biggest prey brings biggest rewards; much praise and women."

"Much praise and women indeed," Kaito says as he clinks his mug against Tortek's.

Kaito asks him how well he has done in the last twenty years. Tortek explains that he has defeated many rivals and claimed their mates; he has several dozen children with his blood in them. Kaito nearly spits out his drink when he hears that.

"Thank god you're not Argus..." Kaito says to himself.

Due to pressure from his people and increasing incidents in the northern lands of Kuatan, and due to the heat of their terrain (tarkatans prefer drier climates) he led them south. Once more in the wastelands of his people, he has led them and they have hunted beast and enemies of the Empire alike.

Though he does admit that his people sometimes break his rules and attack innocent caravans of Kotal Kahn's lands. He is swift to punish any who violate this law. The Amazons of the south have made mortal enemies with the tarkatans; the all-female tribes often press north, trying to claim more lands for themselves, but Tortek has thus far kept them at bay. Since Kotal Kahn is no longer at active war, this has been the most efficient way to keep his people's bloodlust sated, and the Amazon women, when captured, are great prizes, fiesty and soft.

Kaito pauses when this reaches his ears, shuddering at the thought. He almost forgot he was among barbarians...
>>
>>45261716

The feast goes on well into the night. Fights are head, bounties of prey are returned, tarkatan songs are sung (if they can be so called, but Kaito is not one to judge their culture---well, not ALL of it, anyway). However, Kaito begins to sense unease in Mileena, who begins to regret coming. He pulls her aside later that night.

"What's wrong?"

"I am reminded of... less desirable parts of my genetic makeup in this place," she says.

"No part of you is not desirable to me," Kaito says with a smile, leaning in to capture a kiss.

"Cute, but that's not what I meant. It also reminds me of Baraka, and when I wanted nothing more than to be a savage killer... Perhaps I should not have come here."

"He's gone and long dead," Kaito shrugs. "I woudn't worry about him."

Regardless, after most of his people have fallen asleep, Tortek sees Kaito and his companions off. He takes a neckless off from around his neck, one made of tarkatan teeth.

"Take," he says. "Bring good luck."

Kaito thanks him and slips it around his neck.

"Tortek never forget," he tells Kaito. "Tortek only here because of Kaito. Tortek never forget."

Kaito clasps his hand and gives him a smile. "I'll never forget you either, buddy."

They part with a wave as Kaito, Mileena and a very satisfied Ugly return to the ship.

"We have to accept the good and the bad even if we don't like it. Doesn't mean it has to define you, and you can't choose how you were born." Kaito is silent for a moment before adding, "Baraka was a dick though."

Kaito makes a brief stopoff to pick up Tremor. The earth ninja awakens from his stone-meditation and asks if they are going to Edenia now. Kaito says no, they are going to visit the shokan. Tremor closes his eyes and says that until he is leaving for Edenia, he does not care.

He turns back into stone and waits.

Kaito sighs and asks if he would be willing to wait on the ship. After a moment, Tremor returns.

"I am not welcome in the shokan lands," he then explains. "So long as they do not board the ship, I shall travel on it."

"Great! Let's go," Kaito says as they walk to the docked ship. Once on board, Tremor goes below, finds an empty room, and sits.

Not a very polite guest, all things considered.

They disembark from the kove and head north, to the lands of Kuatan.

They reach it by early evening, with the skies red from the sun as it dips just under the cloud layer.

Kaito thinks to himself, perhaps this will be a good chance to surprise his old friends...

Kaito heads down into his cargo hold to look through the gifts he received. Monte, the monkey boatswain (well, more of a chimp, but semantics aside) helps him sort through the inventory.

"And you're going to be just giving these away?" he asks, shaking his head. "Not selling them?"

"Gifts for friends."

"Yes, well, friends are well and good, but money is also good," Monte says. "But these things belong to you, you may do with them as you please, I mean no offense."

He picks out a beautifully crafted vase for Sheeva; surely she would appreciate the pottery. Next, he finds a cape for Duroc. He hopes that it's the shokan's size. Some jewels for Jagara and a nice pair of edenian shoes for Rokuro.

Once this is done, he decides he will enter the shokan lands himself. He takes a longboat to shore and pulls into a small village of shokan fisherman, telling them that he is from foreign lands and brings gifts for the king. While they are skeptical, one of them brings him further west, down a series of roads, towards the shokan capital.

In the twenty years since his slumber, the lands of the shokan have boomed. Large, new towers have been built and great temples build in homage of dragons can be seen.

Kaito is brought before a series of royal guards standing in the way of the path leading up the mountain to the royal shokan palace.

"Halt! Identify yourself." The one who speaks has one hell of a righteous mustache.

"I am a friend to King Gorbak. Perhaps you have heard of me? I am Akayama Kaito, slayer of Shao Kahn and King Gorbak's testicles."

Their eyes widen. "It cannot be..." one says. "He is the one who punched Gorbak's unborn children!" another says. From further down the line, "He destroyed Gorbak's stones!" And then another, "They say Gorbak went from a roaring dragon to a shrieking cat!" And then another, "I felt the punch and I wasn't even there!"

"Yes, yes, thank you," Kaito says, holding up a hand. "But I have business with the King. I've been gone for twenty years and I understand my welcome is long overdue."

Kaito is immediately brought up the path towards the shokan palace while a pair of the guards run ahead to alert the others. By the time Kaito arrives, the palace's entrance is wide open, welcoming him inside.

Kaito is marched into the heart of the mountain, to the throne room where he once fought Gorbak himself. The chamber is incredibly warm from the molten lava surrounding it; Kaito immediately begins sweating. How these half-dragons live here, he'll never know... but then again, hey are half-dragon.

Massive drums beat; shokan warriors with sticks in each hand bang on them as he makes his way down the path towards the throne.

There, seated upon it, is none other than King Duroc. He looks larger than he once did; clearly, since leaving his self-exile in the cobalt mines, he has eaten well and returned to his physical peak. He wears a large cap and belt and a golden crown sits upon his brow. But he is not alone; to his right is none other than Rokuro, the warrior Kaito once fought to a stalemate before eventually reuniting him with his father. To the king's left is Sheeva, looking similar to how he remembers her, but wearing more regal clothing, including a cape of her own.

To Rokuro's right is Jadara, Goro's daughter, wearing a beautiful dress of fiery crimson.

Kaito stops in the center of the arena situated before the throne and looks at them. King Duroc rises and the drums cease.

No words are exchanged as he steps down from his throne and approaches Kaito with his family at his side. He stops before him and looks down at him, saying nothing.

Then, he bows, and every shokan in the room does the same.

"Welcome to the kingdom of Kuatan, honored friend," Duroc says as he straightens, and all others do as well.

Kaito returns the bow. "I'm happy to be here at last," he says with a wide smile.

Kaito immediately gives them all the gifts he picked out. He presents them one at a time, speaking to each of them on why he chose it for them.

He hands Sheeva the vase. "Here," he says with a smile. "It's Edenian. Well, everything here is---not the point. I knew you liked pottery so I thought you would appreciate this."

She holds it up and inspects it. "It is beautiful," she says with a smile. "I shall immediately add it to my collection. Truly, the edenians are masters of the arts. Thank you, Kaito."

He looks up at Duroc. "I need no gift from you, my friend," he says. "You reunited me with my only son, and helped me take the kingdom of the shokan and lead them into a new age of prosperity. There is no need for it."

Kaito insted then gives the cape and shoes to Rokuro. "I know you are a prince now, so I thought you might like them," he says with a smile.

Rokuro takes them in hand and smiles, laughing a bit. "Is this your apology for throwing me off that mountain? Or for never returning so we can end our duel?"

"Well, I'm here now," Kaito says with a smile. "But later, maybe."

He reaches Jagara and reveals the edenian jewelry, and her eyes light up. "I wasn't sure what you liked, so I---"

"They are beautiful," she says, accepting them. She immediately places the golden necklace over her head. "Thank you so much, Kaito."

Duroc lets out a hearty laugh. "He returns after five years of helping to liberate the shokan people, and he bestows US with gifts!"

Kaito laughs along with him, but then stops. "Wait, five years?"

Jagara leans in close. "Shokan years---much longer than Earthrealm years."

Kaito shares a laugh with them all as Duroc clasps his hands together and calls for a feast.

Of all the kingdoms he has travelled to, of all the feasts thrown for him since his awakening, none quite compare to a shokan celebratory feast. Beasts bigger than his body are brought to the table, roasted and covered in fruits. Plates and baskets of exotic breads, fruits, vegetables, massive fish caught from the Outworld sea---there is simply too much for him to take in.

But not for the shokan. They dig into their meals with ferocity that Mileena would appreciate, chowing down like champions. Kaito tries to keep up but finds himself winded! Were it not for the demanding workouts he receives on a nearly daily-basis, he wouldn't have the heart for a meal such as this.

Who would have thought the shokan have such a high-calorie diet?

Drums continue to beat as Kaito is toasted to. Stories are told from the Outworld-Earthrealm War, and the Outworld Civil Wars that followed. Songs of the weakness and cowardice of Gorbak and Goro are sung, along with tales of protecting the shokan lands after the time of the invasion.

Just when Kaito thinks the meal is done, another course is brought out, this time with Dragon's Wine. Kaito is advised not to drink it, for it is potent enough even for a dragon, and such a potion would be too strong for the traveller, despite all his battles.

Kaito holds up his cup and firstly asks, "Now before I drink this I have something I need to say... I don't mean any offense and all, guys. But why the fuck are you immune to being thrown off shit? Every shokan I've seen that's been thrown off something comes back later, usually angrier."

All are silent as King Duroc stands up. Kaito looks at him as he says, "Because we secretly can all fly."

The shokans at the table all howl with laughter as Duroc holds up a goblet of Dragon's Wine and toasts Kaito before they both drink.

Kaito takes it away from his lips and purses them a bit. "Huh. Fruity. That's no so---"

Suddenly there is a fire hotter than the sun within Kaito's belly. He begins to sweat harder than he has since his arrival as the fire spreads to all of his insides. He opens his mouth and spews out a ball of fire to the amazement of all before falling backwards, unconscious.

>...

Kaito awakens some time later. Thankfully, however, he is not chained to a wall in the shokan dungeons with anti-magic bracelets on his wrists, like the last time he was knocked out in Kuatan. This time, rather, he is in some kind of steamy room, on an altar, surrounded by hot water.
>>
>>45265404

He feels hands on him, spreading water with soft rags. He realizes that two shokan handmaidens are attending to him, attempting to lower his warm body temperature with warm, but not scalding, water. The room around them is lit by many braziers with hot stones in them, making the room like a sauna.

"What... happened?" Kaito asks.

"You drank the wine of a dragon," a familiar voice says. Sheeva walks into his field of vision. "Brave, but foolish."

"I've been described with less pleasant words," he says with a smile. "What happened?"

"You were brought here, of course. Do not worry, none mock you for trying---it takes great courage to even attempt to drink the wine and not have the blood of dragons within you to begin with."

"Oh, so nobody laughed?"

"No, there was great laughter," Sheeva says with an amused expression on her face. "But nobody mocks you for trying."

Kaito lays back with a sigh as Sheeva sends the handmaidens away. They rise out of the steaming water and leave.

"Are you well enough to walk?" she asks.

"I'm well," Kaito says. "I have the power of fire within me now."

"Oh, do you now?" she asks.

"This room is rather nice," Kaito says. "I wouldn't mind staying in here for some time. In fact, would you care to join me?"

She smiles and folds her arms. "Always the bold one, aren't you?"

Kaito shrugs. "No harm in asking, is there?"

She turns for the exit. "King Duroc and the others will be waiting for you when you feel ready once more."

She pauses. "Perhaps later..." she muses, though over what Kaito can only imagine.

After some time enjoying the water, he gets up and dries himself off. He proceeds back to the throne room to rejoin the others. A few shokan are here; Duroc is not on his throne, but is nearby talking to Rokuro. Sheeva is speaking with Jagara whilst Breeti addresses a few shokan nobles Kaito does not know.

Kaito goes to Duroc and Rokuro. The king gives Kaito a strong pat on the back. "Feeling better?"

"That stuff would give Master Bo' Rai Cho a run for his money," Kaito says. "I don't suppose I could get a barrel of that to go?"

"I think that would be irresponsible of us," Rokuro snickers. "Like giving a sword to a toddler."

"I just need to build up my tolerance to it," Kaito insists.

Duroc commends him on trying nonetheless.

Kaito spends some time discussing the state of the shokan people with Duroc and Rokuro. Now that they are free of imperial rule, the shokan have prospered and defeated all of their enemies. Ever since they cursed the centaur race and drove them from their lands to the south and west, the shokan have only grown in power and might.

"How well does the kingdom of Kuatan get along with Kotal Kahn?"

"We are on friendly terms with the current Emperor, but do not pay fealty to him," Duroc says. "The shokan are strong in their independance. Kotal recognizes this and leaves our lands alone; we, in turn, do the same. This is not to say that we never speak to one another; we make journies south to join him for a feast once a year."

"And that's shokan years, right?"

"There are others?" Duroc asks.

"Right... Well, how about you, Rokuro? Or do you prefer Prince?"

The half-shokan gives him a smug grin. "Careful, Kaito. Of the two of us, I can actually handle Dragon's Wine."

"For now," Kaito promises.

He looks over and sees another female shokan speaking to Sheeva; it is her mother, Xeena. He is glad to see that at least she chose the winning side, even if most of her family did not.

Kaito thanks Duroc for the extraordinary feast; he promises that, for the next one, he shall be more prepared---or at least he'll bring some more friends to handle the food. He then begins to tell them of all he has done since waking up, up to his duel with Kotal Kahn over Cinder and Tremor's lives. They are enthralled with his tales, and Sheeva and Jagara join them to listen. Yanake's city and the assassins, freeing the shards of the Broken Goddess, battling the storm giant---a very exciting tale.

After spending some more time with them and letting them know of Johnny Cage's plans for a team of new Defenders, something that intrigues Duroc very much so, Kaito thanks them and leaves, saying lengthy goodbyes to his shokan friends. He tells them that if they ever need to find him for help, he'll be ready to do so.

As he returns to the longboat, he is surprised to see none other than Tsuga, the silent warrior and gunslinger of his crew, on shore waiting for him.

He looks up as Kaito approaches.

"What's this all about?" he asks.

Tsuga takes out a small canteen and drinks. "I've been watching you," he says. "You're looking to master the elements."

"What of it?"

He tilts his hat down a bit. "There's a place I know. Where they study with water. Manipulating it like I have seen you do."

"What? Why didn't you bring this up before?"

Tsuga shrugs. "Didn't feel much like it while we were on the ship. But you left alone this time. I don't like telling the others where I am from... But there is place in Outworld, in its northeastern seas. It is a temple of monks who believe in the power of water, the waves... and the storm."

Kaito narrows his eyes. "What is this place?"

"They are called the Temple of the Lung Hai. Water-Monks. I was with them, once."

"Why did you leave?"

Tsuga shakes his head. "Doesn't matter. But if you want to master water, that's a place I would start."

He takes out a scroll and hands it to Kaito; it is a rough, hand-drawn map of Outworld's seas. "Made during my many years of sailing." He points out the Lung-Hai temple, on the continent north of Yanake and Turana's. "They may take you. May not. I'd say it's worth a look."

"Should I tell them you sent me?"

"I wouldn't," he says, climbing into a longboat. "Now, let's get going." He looks back at Kaito. "And please don't tell them where I am from. I don't like to talk about it."

Kaito rolls up the map and places it into a pocket before climbing into the longboat.

I'll call it there for this weekend, folks, and for Kaito for a little while as we ready to switch to Cao.

I want to close out this thread with some discussion on where Kaito is now going to go to train his powers, and any epilogues that you anons would like in regards to unanswered questions. This isn't the end of Kaito's story, far from it---but I'd like him to go off and train for a bit now that his immediate concerns are taken care of. He's still got things to look forward to doing, like helping Ryan and uniting the Broken Goddess, but these are things that will come in time.

So, let's have some discussion on:

>Wind Training
>Water Training
>Fire Training
>Earth Training
>Fighting Training (Possibly learning a new style)
>Anything else you can think of

Let's have some discussion on it. I'm all ears.
>>
>>45267264
>Anything else you can think of
Would it be out of the question to visit Turana form time to time? Once a month maybe.
I think leaving her unchecked is a bad idea.
>>
>>45267264
Naturally, since the option was put forward, go to the Temple of the Lung Hai to practice hydrokinesis.
If anything, heading for the frigid north to find Typhoon will give him plenty opportunity to practice his other elements.
>>
>>45267264
>Wind Training
I think if Fuji ever has free time we could train with him a bit

>Water Training
Water monks

>Fire Training
Cinder and Liu Kang

>Earth Training
Maybe some meditation with Tremor

>Fighting Training (Possibly learning a new style)
>Anything else you can think of
Creating our own style by mixing bloody hands with the elements. Mostly so Damashi can actually give Kaito a real move list.
>>
>>45267347
That's a good idea.
>>
>>45267328
>Would it be out of the question to visit Turana form time to time?

No, it wouldn't be out of the question, just risky, since every time he goes, she'll try and get him to stay. Not out of spite or for evil, but because she loves him, you know.

>>45267347

I know I rushed it a bit and wanted to introduce them earlier, but the Lung Hai Temple would be a good place for Kaito to practice hydromancy.

Other possible options:

>Earth training from Tremor
>Fire Training from Cinder
>Wind training from Fujin or Typhoon (if Kaito can find him)
>Fighting style from Bo' Rai Cho, perhaps drunken fist or snake style

>>45267349
>Creating our own style by mixing bloody hands with the elements. Mostly so Damashi can actually give Kaito a real move list.

Yes, that's something I definitely want to do with Kaito when we get back to him; I also keep forgetting to add Nut-Punch to his specials despite how long we've made use of it.
>>
>>45267443
>>45267349
I thought the Bloody Hand was already our style. It was one of Kaito's unique attributes. I tried to add creative moves to it as well.

Well they wouldn't go away, they're still in the pastebin. I'd just list them under "Bloody Hands Moves" and list the others under "Hydromancy" or "Terrakinesis" for example.
>>
>>45267443
How many of these can we afford? All of them?
The Lung Hai Temple is beyond question, I wanted Kaito to master water for a long while now. Especially since limited lightning might come with it.

Forgot to say that I'm excited to be switching to another character. I'm not bored of Kaito, but I feel this arc is good and done with; he's gone to the places he's needed to go to since waking up, gotten some new powers and friends, and now can go off and train.

I'm also going to try adding a bit to the fighting system and experimenting with some new features, like a building meter. For example, before the usual thing I say, I would have it be like:

>Current Meter: 1
>Roll 1d100 and describe an action!

With appropriate modifiers and such. Players could then use enhanced moves or breakers or wait to build up to the X-Ray.

>>45267589

Well, the period of time I'm hoping to cover with Cao is about two years.
>>
>>45267611
I like that meter system, maybe a variation system as well?

>>45267611
>Well, the period of time I'm hoping to cover with Cao is about two years.

Hopefully in that time we get a Mileena X Kaito
baby
>>
>>45267611
I feel the same way too. Kaito ran trough two and a half arc greatly, did and seen his share of adventures, and it was great. Time for him to take a rest, and it's a perfect time to take another character for a spin.

Will Cao be less of a powerhouse than Kaito?
For example; would he need roll higher to defeat the same opponent as Kaito?

I've seen sometimes when a new main character in the same universe they make him less "epic" so there is room for character growth.
>>
>>45267704
Kaito still has to free Turana from Anubis's obligations and finalize his threesome.
>>
>>45267768
>For example; would he need roll higher to defeat the same opponent as Kaito?

Kaito just beat Kotal Kahn, there's no comparison
>>
>>45267779
True
>>
>>45267611
>>45267611
>two years
A visit every three months then? I still want to give it a few chances, and danger have never been a factor for Kaito.

Also mind if I throw in some plot-specific questions?
>>
>>45267768
>Will Cao be less of a powerhouse than Kaito?
Initially, yes. Never mind that Cao is more suited to fighting dirty and doesn't take hits very well, but he straight up doesn't wield as much raw power as Kaito does, at least not at this juncture. No doubt Cao will eventually get stronger.
>>
>>45267704
>maybe a variation system as well?

That's an interesting idea I'd like to explore. Cao will start off with just one variation, Street Brawler, but as we follow him on his journey he could unlock more; whereas Kaito now has a very defined moveset and just needs time to hone and master his new abilities.

I'm also interested in adding more skill-based challenges to Cao's arc, like relating to doing non-kombat things in the midst of battle, like acrobatic challenges or trying to escape, outwit or elude opponents through the use of his skills.

>>45267768

>Will Cao be less of a powerhouse than Kaito?

Yes. As an anon eloquently put in a previous thread, Kaito is us looking at the setting from a more birds-eye-view, Cao is more looking at the setting from the bottom-up. I want his story to start off gritty and he has to fight and claw his way up.

I also want to use Cao's story to explore more places and characters we haven't seen before or have only heard of but never interracted with; I liken it more to Kaito's earliest journies, when he was just a guy who didn't know what he was getting into, but by now Kaito is experienced, well-travelled and ready to train himself and grow as he helps Johnny put together a team.
>>
>>45267884
>I'm also interested in adding more skill-based challenges to Cao's arc, like relating to doing non-kombat things in the midst of battle, like acrobatic challenges or trying to escape, outwit or elude opponents through the use of his skills.

To emphasize this point, this is the title card I've cooked up for our fourth arc.

Cao's a thief. He's starting at the very bottom, with less resources than Kaito had access to (and Kaito started with nothing). Cao is persecuted, he wants to protect and help provide for his sisters, and he already has pre-existing relationships with some of the characters (Kotal Kahn killed his father, if you recall his pastebin).

Here's that pastebin again.

I'm not sure yet. It may be a thing that I offer during kombat. Perhaps something along the lines of,

>Current Meter: 2
>Roll 1d100 and describe an action!
>Switch Variation to *Insert Second Variation Here* or *Insert Third Variation Here*

Might as well go full Fire Emblem with it.

>>

>>
>>45268328

Cao loves his sisters and would do anything to protect them. Anyone trying to fuck them, he'd try and kill them---and I don't think he's too into killing himself, so there you have it.
>>
>>45267971
So TestAnon if you read this in the archives;
>Anyone can buy any maneuvers from the General Maneuvers, they just have to have te Prerequsites, and pay the Power Points for it (More in the "Spending Expirience" section)

for Focus Maneuvers there are two ways to go about it
>Buy the School first (Kombat Master decides the cost) then you can buy maneuvers from the School.
or
>You get the right to learn from the School during the story.
Like in this Quest, where Kaito earned the right by freeing each shard of the Broken Godess
Some Kombat masters would call him a filthy powergamer but what can you do?

As for the speed of fights, I've catalouged every maneuver, so i can easily modify them if they are too weak too strong. I don't know if I should moderate the maneuvers, or just raise the Health levels of the Kharacters.

I also have a lot of fun with it. Each arc gets its own title card; the first one here with the Kamidogu because Kaito is just learning about the realms and the lore, the second one with the Yin-Yang dragons to represent Otiak's dual nature, the third one with the MK9 logo because Kaito is in a new era for the first time, etc.

Anyway, archiving now. >>45268607
