"Listen, there's something going on. I need you to do me a favor." Axel looks into your eyes. "Can you hide Louise and Charlotte somewhere?"

Great, more brats at the shrine. Cats, at that.

"Like where? Aye don't even know what ye think is after them."

"Just, somewhere!" He waves his hands in the air. "Like.. A ship or something! You're a sailor, right? Just take them out to sea for a few months."

You are Jack Albator, keen spymaster, handsome buccaneer.
And yes, you are indeed a sailor.

Though, taking them out to sea might prove difficult considering that Biscotti, your new home nation, is landlocked.

So, why is everyone suddenly deciding that they need to flee? Well, funny story.
A story that you, by all accounts, do not deem as very funny.

Biscotti castle was attacked last night, and Gallete's hero was almost kidnapped twice. Which has made every person who knows about your penchant for solving problems to immediately try staying at your place. Understandable, you are amazing and incredibly intelligent and all!

It's just, your place is starting to get full. Full of fuzzy tails and children.
You don't even want to know what kind of feed Atsuko is going to be buying for dinner.

So, here you are. Axel, who is Gallete's quartermaster and overall a pretty cool Catland guy, is asking you to take Gallete's princess and her hero somewhere safe. Of course, the only safe place you know of is the shrine.

This isn't even going into how you're going to get out of this castle without anyone noticing.

"You have a ship, right?!"
"Aye, an airship. It took some hits durin' the bear thing and is at the shipyard right now."

"Damn! Okay, maybe..-"

"Listen." You put your hand on his shoulder. "Calm down, Charlotte and Louise can stay here the night."
"What!? But-"

"Hey, aye trust yer ability to protect them for a single day while I search for the scoundrel."

There's some ruffling from the bed, and Charlotte ducks beneath the blanket.

"Even then, don't you think that they should be somewhere more protected?!"
"No, aye don't think that at all. In fact, aye think they should stay somewhere that no one is expectin'. And you're that place." You slap his shoulder.

"Grhgh, Jack."
"Hey, if ye think ye can't, I'll scuttle the lasses out meself and take 'em somewhere safe."

He thinks about your words for a moment, before cracking his knuckles.
"I think I got this, but just one day. That's all I'll promise."
"Atta-boy!" You laugh, "Aye'll ask Tuile if she has a more permanent safehouse for 'em, and ye can watch over them while they're here."

"Right." He sighs.

The two nested mass of white hair and white fur scuttle beneath the blankets on the bed. Charlotte stands up and bows in a ladylike manner while Louise remains tangled in the blanket.
"Axel, Jack; Thank you for your help." Charlotte does a curtsie becoming of a princess.

"It's kinda my job." Axel sighs.
"Aye, just try to make yer kingdom less of a bunch of pricks, it would help." You sigh as well.

"(Aye was hopin' YOU would, Lass.)"

Her mouth scrunches up, her cheeks inflate slightly.
"(I have no idea what's going on, but I can't leave Louise right now. She's having nightmares. Tell Tuile that if she finds a safehouse, I either go with Louise or I don't go at all.)"
"(Did ye recognize any of the assailants?)"

"(I couldn't, they were wearing masks and- I wasn't- really thinking about that. I was crying about Louise, and-)"

"Nothing Lass, err-"
There's something about this girl's habits that's bothering you.

"Put on some clothes."
"Louise!" Charlotte's head snaps back toward her hero, "I thought we had this talk before! When company is around, you put on your clothes!"

"Heh, Sorry." She ducks back under the covers.
Her father was the single biggest merchant lord in all of France, wasn't he?
Strange behavior from nobility.

"Anyway." Axel tries to turn attention from the moving mass of bedspread. "I think they can hold out here for another day."
"Aye, I'll go try to find the source and let ye know when I find somethin'"

"How are you going to contact us?" Charlotte grabs your hand before you turn away.
"Aye'll think of somethin'. One thing at a time."

You don't like it being that way, but it's necessary. You can't exactly trust anyone to relay messages for you unless it's someone you explicitly know. Even then they could be captured if they try playing messenger.

"Ye got yer weapon-"
Louise answers your question by crawling over to the end of the bed, and then reaching under and pulling out a hunk of iron.
"Got it!" She proudly brandishes the oversized axe.

"Louise! Put your clothes on! All of them!" Charlotte fusses at her hero a you nod at Axel. Quickly, you slip out the door with grace and agility.

You're back in the guest hallway now. You could go to the scene of the crime and examine it, the rooms could be thawing at this point from Yuuki's attack. You could also try returning to Aligot and pressing him for info. Maybe you could just start socking people at random. Either is fine with you.

You COULD start pounding the living daylights out of everyone.
But, that comes with a problem. You don't want people to know you're mad. If they realize you're mad, they might start acting cautious, or worse; they might just wait until you leave. You can't stay around forever.

You could also wait around for Yuuki to arrive and take separate parts of the castle.
That's no good, either. Yuuki is a renowed hero, and so are you. One hero bumbling around the castle may not attract much suspicion, but TWO heroes are definitely going to turn a few heads.

So, you're going to take this all sneaky-like.

You're going to start with the cats who you think are the most likely to be causing trouble and riff-raff.

Well, you hate to say this but one of them would be Axel. So you're going to move on down the list.

How about that knight who stopped you from entering Gallete that one time?
You know that the only difference between a knight and a thug is that the thug wears sensible clothes.

So, how about that 'Antonin' guy? You wonder briefly what his price might be.

There he is now, talking among some other knights. You recognize his sister Odelle, Bennet, and that one girl whose name you can't remember. The cat-priestess with the staff.

Between them seems to be.. an animal ball.

"'ey" You try to act stubborn and confused. "What's all this ruckus, eh? Aye tryin' to get my mornin' drink."

Behind them, you can see Dorje looking mighty angry.

It seems you may have just walked in on another scene.

"Jack, this isn't the time." Dorje crosses his arms. "We're being attacked, and I just had one try and grab me!"
"Grab YOU?"

This seems like the worst idea imaginable for any living organism. You've seen that kid cut through solid stone with his bare hands.

>"Is he anythin' but a fine paste at this point!?"
>"How'se yer princess? She's okay, right?"

So yeah, we figure out what state the supposed kidnapper is in, then ask about the princess followed by mentioning the pattern so we could perhaps do something about that.

Someone tried to grab that kid!?

"Are'ye sure he's anythin' but a fine paste at this point?"

"He's right here." Antonin proudly displays the animal ball.
"What happened?"

"He grabbed my arm, I rotated it until I heard a pop." Dorje pouts. "He pretty much turned into a ball after that."

Ouch.

"How'se yer princess?"

"She's fine, thankfully. She was reading in the library when it happened."

You don't know this Dorje kid very well. You know that he punches like a whaler and has arms made of cannons. It's impressive someone as strong as him appears so small and scrappy.
It's disturbing though, now they've tried to kidnap two heroes.

Not the princesses, their heroes.

Are they easier targets? Is it because the princesses are heavily guarded?

Could it be because they have no interest in the princesses at all?

Either ways, you're seeing a pattern.

"What were ye doin' when ye were attacked?"
"I got done taking a bath, I was training out in the yard with Kayda when it happened."

"Heh, Kayda was trainin' with you?"
"It's more like we were training in the same place." His eyes cast downward. "That girl is mean, and it's difficult to talk to her."

Yeah, you've noticed that a lot when dealing with Kayda.

Well, you can see the pattern here. It's not the princesses at risk, it's their heroes.

"Wait, where's-"

>"-KAYDA?! Where's Kayda?!"
>"-Tuile?"
>"-The guards when this happened?"
>"-Cody?"
>Yuuki is on her way, maybe you should go check on her.

"-Kayda."

Oh damn.
You just remembered something.

Dorje? Yeah, he's probably pretty sturdy.
Yuuki? She can handle herself.
Cody? Who the hell knows where he is.

That just leaves.

"Whar's Kayda!?"
"Huh? In the training yard."

You push past the knights, rushing down the hallway. Bennet says something inaudible just as you reach the door to the training yard.
Flinging it open, you're met face-to-face with animal balls!

Are you too late!?
In the distance, you hear rifle fire!

Why can't Biscotti get anything right!?

There's another crack as a dark-haired girl effortlessly blasts a shadowy figure into a ball. She pulls the silver-lined lever of her rifle, and another magical cartridge flings itself from the chamber.
She looks, bored. Like she didn't want to deal with this when she woke up this morning.

Atta girl.

She fires another shot straight into one of the assassins!
Yet, somehow- That hooligan is not falling! He takes the shot like a champ and charges straight at Kayda.

Her cool melts away, and she swings the rifle like a club. It impacts his shoulder with great, and audible force!
CRACK!
The scoundrel takes a step back, clutching his wounded arm.

That's when you hear it, there's a faint ripping sound.
The shoulder of Kayda's dress starts to rip!

Tangled in the ravel of cloth; there's some kind of knife!
He winds up for another attack, but doesn't get to finish. Your pistol's shot strikes him in the back of the skull.

He puffs up immediately. A part of you wants to step on it.
Kayda, visibly shaken, tries to find words all of the sudden.

"I- I- Uh, I- totally had that." Kayda speaks strong words, but her frown continues to grow.

For some reason, this is the thing that puts you over the edge.
With a grunt, and a swear; you reach down and grab both the furball AND Kayda. You scoop her up into your arms and squeeze the fuzzball by the whiskers.

Kayda's glare intensifies as you pull her against your coat. Her rocky exterior crumbles and her arms wrap around your neck.
She's trying to hide her face, and the tears she's sobbing into your coat.

Which only goes to make you even ANGRIER!
ANGRIER IN WAYS YOU DIDN'T THINK YOU HAD THE CAPACITY TO BE ANGRY.

You push Antonin out of the way as you storm inside. The other two knights quickly dodge out of the way when they see the look on your face.
It wasn't personal before, but now, it's war.

You throw the puffball with such force that it nearly chips Odelle's armor. She catches the wooly orb with a squeak.
There's some commotion as guards and knights funnel through the hallways. Each one heading toward the training yard.

They must be smart ones, they steer a wide berth around you and your ill-disguised anger.
Dorje runs up alongside you. He has difficulty keeping with your enraged pace.

"Kayda! Kayda!"
"SHUT UP YOU JERK!" Kayda spits back at him.

Which, rightfully, leaves Dorje feeling confused. It's a quiet and awkward stroll the rest of the way to the armory.

You nearly bash the iron door down with your foot.
Fritelli and Tuile, seemingly holding a secret meeting, immediately jump into combat positions.

"'EY" You yell, not even hiding your fury. "THIS LASS HERE WAS ALMOST KIDNAPPED AND I DEMAND AN EXPLANATION. EVERYTHING YE KNOW, RIGHT NOW."

"Jack!?"
"Kidnapped!? Kayda!?"

Dorje meekly shuts the door behind you.

"Find Yuuki and Cody." You say, completely calm and silent. "Now."

That calm and silence is all that they need to hear to know that you mean business.

Fritelli hurries out of the room as Tuile gently takes Kayda off your hands. Kayda wraps her arms around Tuile's back, and continues her sobbing into her blouse.

Words cannot describe the anger. Plus, you think Tuile and Dorje know it.
They continue to pretend that you are not minutes away from going on a murderous rampage.

"It's okay Kayda, please. Calm down." Tuile hugs the dark-haired girl. She shivers in Tuile's arms. "Please calm down Kayda, you're safe."

Kayda's response is only mumbling into Tuile's clothes. Dorje joins the big hug and seems to accidentally squeeze Tuile just a little too hard.
It would be a heartwarming sight to behold, if it weren't drowned out by all the seething rage.

Fritelli steps back in, "Jack, I have someone looking for Cody and Yuuki."
You remain wordless.

"Now, want to explain what happened?"

You give Tuile and Fritelli a brief rundown of the attacks you've witnessed just in the last hour of arriving here, at the castle. As well as an explanation of where Yuuki and her princess went off to hide.
To make things worse, you also give her a rundown of what you saw when you visited Gallete yesterday. The child in the basement, the dragon locked in the cellar, and how all of this started after that visit.

Tuile's eyes glazed over at the halfway mark. They resemble some mixture of hate and fear.
At least Kayda has settled down, by now. Her head rests on Fritelli's lap, as she slowly drifts to sleep.

"Argh, I know, right?" You take a drink from your flask.
-Just for Tuile to grab your hand and gesture toward her mouth. You give her a swig from the ol' canteen and then holster it back in your coat.

"Jack," Tuile leans into your shoulder. "You'll stay and help protect Biscotti, right?"
"Of course Lass, what kinda question is that?"

"Well, I mean-" Tuile seems worried. "There's nothing stopping you from just running off right now."

"Trust me Lass, this has now become a personal matter." You rub Kayda's head. She continues to snooze on Fritelli's lap.

Typically, personal matters to you end with boarding a ship and stealing all their treasure. The fact that someone is trying to do it to you is magnitudes of wrong.
