You are bleeding. The winter air cuts sharper than ever before. Your vision is hazy, your eyelids heavy. You are cold, tired and hurting. You are facing enemies you cannot defeat.

You are Tsukuda Ryouta. Despite all of that, your mind is clear. Your empty sword can't grant you victory here... but you know of swords that can. Even the one that you didn't see in full... you remember her shield; or rather, you understand its function in full.

"Fling, Ishiken."

Your voice reverberates; those words, that command, that name - they carry in them power that mutes out the whistling wind. The steel in your hands trembles and glows, sending a pleasant warmth through your cold hands. The metal bends and twists, taking on the form of a weapon completely unlike the sword you were just wielding.

A bolt of light flashes from the muzzle of the steel crossbow, drawing an impossible curve past the bloodied boar hungering for your innards, over the tangled Shinigami with the red ponytail, across the webs pulling her to her death, and into the eye of the predator that has caught its prey. It howls, a piece of its mask shattering in the miniature explosion, sending cracks down the pale bone.

The thin threads fall. The girl rolls up to her feet again, her magnetic rapier swinging at the arachnid. The blade is hopelessly out of reach, but the metallic object under its control obeys the drawn arc and violently slams into the spider's black torso. Battered and hurt, the monster withdraws into the building, right through the wall it was pinned into by the trashcan, retreating into hiding once again.

The destination you pictured was the back of its head. The trajectory wasn't off - it was exactly how you visualized it - but the projectile was too slow, and the Hollow's head moved out of the way during its flight. Perhaps if this Ishiken was the real one, this wouldn't have happened, and the Hollow would be dead.

You lose concentration, and your sword blinks back into its original, sealed form. The pig Hollow, having been startled by your spiritual arrow, has jumped away to what it deemed a safer distance. Its yellow eyes stare daggers at Moeka, snorting and roaring in incoherent rage. She taps her rapier on a mailbox and sends it flying towards the beast, but, caked in the glowing crimson of its spiritual energy, it blurs out of the way with ease.

It's smart enough to use its ability for both offense and defense. With its spiritual capacity, it'll be able to keep using it for a while, even if only to dodge anything you throw at it. Tiring it out is risky - the spider will regenerate its injuries and attack again if you take too long, and both you and Moeka will expend valuable energy. The best solution is to deal with it quickly, but getting close is practically suicide - you can't take another hit like that, and you can't dodge it, either.

You need a plan.

Actually can we switch to Ishiken right after we repel it to hit its mask while its stunned and can't dodge?

Didn't we get healed by Haname back in the first thread? It doesn't seem to have that power now.

The hollow seems to like charging and we seem wounded.

"Moeka! Get behind me!" You yell, lifting up your reformed sword, edge facing the animalistic Hollow. Your Shinigami partner flings the mailbox at it again, and although it was avoided, it still carried out its purpose, providing the girl with an opening to move over to you.

"So what's our plan, Ryouta-kun? I think I'm gonna drop Yuchi, because I'm kind of tired, but..." Her outloud pondering is cut off by a squeal, a noise that makes a sudden shift into a bass-filled roar. Reiryoku erupts from the creature's pores, covering its body in a bloody mist. "Ah, crap, this is bad! We gotta split!"

"No. Stay there. I have a plan." You tell her. Instead of listening to her panicked complaints, you block out all unnecessary noise, concentrating on your blank sword. Your memories are vague, but even a single glance has drilled the purpose of her Shikai right into your head.

"Flourish, Haname."

The sword dissipates into countless pale particles. A surge of your energy forces them to take form, the tint of her sword's manifestation gaining a pleasant pink. Translucent roses are weaved along the borders of the shield's otherwise perfectly round shape. The layer closest to your fingertips is like glass, its solidity unquestionable, and its durability much sturdier than its frail appearance would suggest. In front of the glass stretches a tiny pond, only slightly taller and wider than you in size, which hydrates the beautiful flowers; the colored water doesn't budge under the cold wind, hinting towards its true formidability.

The Hollow charges, not at all minding the change in circumstances, not even suspecting that there is danger underneath Haname's beauty.

(1/2)
>>
>>45256563
The surface of the first layer ripples wildly, reacting to the disturbance. The tusks scratch against the second layer, but not even a second passes before your power is sent through the pond's water, the next ripple sending an exorbitant amount of force into the bones.

The mask pops and shatters, crushing from its own strength. The Hollow stumbles back, bleeding from its crushed head, and falls, unmoving. Its form begins to slowly give away, its wicked shape regaining humanity. The second layer of your shield has cracked as well, but the damage is negligible and fades at your whim.

You drop down on a knee. Haname's maintenance is nothing to take lightly. You revert your sword to its original state. You don't think you can do that again. Any of that.

"H-How did you do that? I thought your sword was a crossbow..? But... that was amazing, Ryouta-kun! I heard that people can learn the names of their swords in battle, but I've never actually seen it happen! You're the best partner in the world, I swear!" Moeka says, laughing as she helps you up to your feet. Your footing is not something you would call reliable right now, but it holds, however pitifully. The girl looks around, wary, her sword still in its unleashed form. "There's still that other Hollow out there, somewhere... Do you want to track that thing down, Ryouta-kun?"

Pursuing it might be dangerous, but if you just leave it alone... it might retreat, for better or worse.

...

>>
>>45256734
Here's a plan, we can distract the spider momentarily while Moeka uses her shikai to launch our zanpakuto right into his mask.
>>
>>45256878
It'd be better if she could just do that attack from complete stealth. Still pretty risky though.
>>

Because I'm an absolute dummy who forgot to post them!

Arachnid's Attributes:
>STR: D

>SPI: C
>REIA: E

And the web:

Spirit Web
>Rank: D
>Type: Barrier/Anti-Unit
>Range: 1-40
>Maximum Targets: 20 people
>Aside from mimicking the effects of webs secreted by real spiders to catch prey, except applicable on a larger, human scale, the composition of these webs serves as an interference to spiritual detection. As long as the Hollow remains in these webs, its Presence Concealment is increased by two Ranks.
>>
>>45256878

>>

Now here's the question. Can the hollow sense things in its web, or is the concealment attribute absolute?
>>

"We should finish it." You declare. Moeka agrees, though there's none of that usual enthusiasm usually present at the thought of earning more bounties.

"It's going to regenerate, so we better hurry..." The girl takes out her Denreishinki, flipping it open. "I bet it's moving around. If it is, this thing should be able to spot it..."

"We could set up an ambush at the mansion. It might want to return there." You suggest as you take sluggish steps around the area, trying to find traces of the Hollow's presence. Glancing through the windows of apartment buildings, you don't spot any webs or unusual movements. But still, you don't think it could have gotten far. A single step out of its webs means the radars would be picking it up. So could it still be nearby..?

"Have the reinforcements arrived yet?" You ask.

"Uh... nope, they haven't..." She replies.

...

>"You haven't called them, have you?"
>"Give me your Denreishinki for a minute, I'll call them."

"Try to think of it less as them stealing our kill, and more making sure we don't die. That spider is seems to have marked you as its prey, and with Erwin out of the way, there's nothing stopping it from laying trap after trap after trap from now on. At worst, you lose out on money, but think of the peace of mind you'll gain not having to worry about it ambushing you again."

e.g. mimicing the boars blood fueld charge.

>>
>>45257759
I think it'll be something more akin to that blank room being filled with only an old man on a potters wheel.

He sits there in silence, his eyes dull, his foot pressing the pedal up and down as his rough hands move effortlessly to sculpt the wet clay on the wheel.

The spinning stops and the wheel slowly comes to a halt. The man sighs and with those brittle fingers lifts the pot from the wheel. He draws it close enough for the white hairs in his beard to bristle against it. He whispers a single phrase to it and you know this work is titled "Haname" somehow.

He shuffles over to a shelf you didn't recognize before and places it down next to others, some mode faded and cracked than others.

He shuffles back to his seat and grabs another handful of clay from the bin next to him, but he pauses a moment, his eyes turning away from his creations, a small, yet dull glimmer in them. perhaps a glint of mischief?

"Ryouta? Tsukuda Ryouta?" he smiles through his gravely voice...
>>
>>45258189
The power is one rank less than the real deal.

Hyorinmaru is probably a B-rank at best.

Ryuujin Jakka is probably the highest rank, if not somehow higher.

The discrepency between the raw power of the two is massive, with Yama's being considered the single most powerful zanpakto to ever be (as far as I heard it described, anyway), and most certainly considered the most destructive.

Also not really a fair comparison, because Jobber jobs regardless of what he does.
>>
>>45258238
Eh, sounds nice but it's probably gonna be Archer.
>>
>>45258238
Nah, it's gonna be Lord Boros with hougyokus in place of his eyes, all of the Zanpakutou that were copied would be his ship's crew.
>>
>>45258275
Iirc Hyourinmaru and Ryuujin Jakka are basically equal in potential, but Yama is so much more powerful and experienced than Hitsugaya that he unlocked all of that potential ages ago whereas jobshota is only just starting to tap into Hyourinmaru's.
Could be bullshit, though.

You still don't see or sense anything of note. It seems that Moeka's cellphone isn't picking anything up, either. You turn towards the girl.

"Lend me your Denreishinki for a minute, I'll call the reinforcements."

"H-huh? What do you mean, call them? I... already did..." She says, looking away from your stare. Realizing that you're not about to relent, Moeka frowns and hangs her head. You move closer and take the device from her. "Oh, c-come on, Ryouta-kun, you're going to start this now? When we're this far in? We can finish this ourselves. We're a really great team! That Hollow doesn't even stand a chance. We'll get so much cash even if we split it up, it's going to be great..!"

"This Hollow can hide from Shinigami. There is just too much risk." The device doesn't last in your hands for long. Moeka plucks it away.

"What the heck, don't touch my things!" She exclaims, suddenly nodding somewhere. Turning your head in that direction, you spot an uncovered manhole near one of the wrecked cars. She winks, smirking. ...That must be it. "You're not my boss! But fine, I'll write the stupid message. Because you don't trust me at all, you can watch me write it! Pay attention, I'm doing this for you!"

She steps back, tapping the side of a wheel that's fallen off a car during that boar's rampage. Just as Moeka predicted, the spider's long legs phase through the concrete, its bulky torso getting pulled out from the sewers by its limbs, its jaws opening to let off a stream of webbing...

>>
>>45259602
A sharp crackle erupts as something breaks the sound barrier - a thin metallic disc spins right into its mask, embedding itself deeply into the side of the creature's face. Its remaining eye widens in shock. It seems that it was expecting to get the drop on you instead.

"Well, it's a good thing I didn't call them, after all, eh, Ryouta-kun? We would have missed out on so many bounties... Heh heh heh..." The girl is now shamelessly smug, one hand on her hip and the released Yuchi in the other. The Hollow's mask crumbles, its inhuman body twitching on the asphalt in agony. "...Hey, haven't we seen that guy somewhere?"

You recognize him as well. You've seen his face before, though it obviously wasn't disfigured like this, on the family photos of the Kramers. This man is without a doubt Erwin's father, Matthias Kramer.

The wheel's disc doesn't seem to have been enough to kill him outright. He's alive and suffering, rendered as harmless as a real spider, so this is a convenient chance to ask questions... or to just finish him off and finally get this all over with. You've finished your mission already, so this isn't necessary. This man's circumstances don't really matter anymore.

"Matthias Kramer?"

"So you know that name. Was just leaving the corpse alone too hard for you? Did you need to desecrate it? You're just like the rest of them. Dead or alive, things are still the bloody same..." The sickly yellow eye stares into yours with nothing but contempt. "What else have you found out? You're going to brag about that as well, whatever it is, aren't you?"

"Can anyone else see ghosts in your family?" You decide to ask him a question anyway. The Hollow holds his silence, shaking in pain, but then suddenly snorts with derision.

"It was just that worthless kid. He was the only one." He spits out. "He made damn sure everybody knew that he could see ghosts. Constantly embarrassed everyone around him. Never made any friends. Threw tantrums because nobody would believe him. And his grandfather, that old, slim eyed fart, encouraged him. His sister did, too. Erwin got into it, read those pointless books of theirs, withdrew from society... He was worthless."

Hollows target their relatives, regardless of what they've felt towards them during life. But in this case, perhaps the animosity between the father and his son has been present since before the former's death.

"Is that why you were trying to kill him?" You ask.

"He killed me first! I've lost everything. I had so many things to live for, and I've lost it all because of some brat's tantrum! Are you telling me that I should have just let it all go?! Don't you fucking mess with me. You'd have done the same thing in my place!" He laughs, the spider's legs twitching and scratching against the concrete. "In fact, you did, didn't you? That's why so many of them cropped up all at once, it's because he lost control of his lackeys after he died. Well, good! Thank you for that, Shinigami! I can finally go to heaven, isn't that right? So send me off! There's a heaven out there, right? It doesn't all just turn black, right?!"

Soma runs Banished Quest. How have you not heard of him?

His quests are shitpost supreme territory.

Erwin must have used his abilities to kill his father. His motivation could be learned from the man himself. You don't have the time to organize a retrieval of Matthias' spirit after the Konso, wherever it is that he ends up, and it wouldn't achieve much, regardless. The injury is regenerating. He's still a Hollow, after all.

"It doesn't. Your son is already there."

"A murderer like him? What a lenient place..." He scoffs.

"It isn't lenient. He'll be answering for sins that Hell can't judge him for. Hell is for the things humans do to each other, not to spirits; that concept has saved him from that fate. But heaven isn't the paradise it tends to be described as, either." You say. The Hollow listens, having no other choice. "The afterlife is massive. You won't see him ever again."

"...Good. I hope he rots." With that last bit of spite, Matthias lays his head down. His wound will heal soon, so you don't have any more time. Your Zanpakuto cuts through him. The soul slowly scatters into blue dust.

"So... that was it, huh? With how evil that guy looked, I was sure he'd go to Hell... Well, not that I see unmasked Hollows often... I've never seen one before, actually. Heh." Moeka tries to raise her arms, probably in an attempt to place them behind her head, but they refuse to be lifted, quivering defiantly at around chest level. She gives up on that and tries to sheathe her sword instead. She nearly stabs herself in the arm, her limbs barely listening to her. "I'm spent! I swear I've never felt this numb in my entire life. Or kept Yuchi up for this long, either."

You feel just about ready to faint as well.

"Say, Ryouta-kun... Are you leaving right away? Because my shift here ends in just a few days... so we could go back to Soul Society together after a few days here! All alone. You know? Wouldn't that be cool, eh? ...Don't you think so?" She chuckles, a little nervously.

...You have some things to discuss with her before you make that choice.

...

>"Moeka, I'll be reporting your behavior to the Captain."

"After this, I'm going to have to report directly to Urahara. Before then, maybe we could clear things up a bit." Like I wanna get an idea of what she stands for, why she is the way she is, and if she's ever gonna change.
>>
>>45262133
Eh, if she does get her shit together, and she owes us, that would be useful. I'm not sure we could get her fired regardless due to how separate the divisions were, and, you know, considering Tousen's backstory it's unlikely we'd get Moeka fired, since being an abusive and ultimately murderous husband didn't do the trick.
>>
>>45262208
The guy in question was probably either a noble, or totally unimportant so the central 46 couldn't be bothered to actually hold a trial.

"You really need to rethink your attitude, Moeka, because it has nearly gotten us killed." You say.

"B-but it all turned out just fine in the end, didn't it? We're both still healthy and way better off after all of that..."

"It all came down to luck more than anything else. You've nearly died at least twice. To add to that, you've lied on several occasions during the mission, and neglected to mention vital information because you got careless. I'm aware of all your deceptions, Moeka, and there's quite a few."

"W-well, you lied, too! You said you don't have a Shikai, but you're actually so good at it that you have two abilities instead of one, like I have!" She tries to defend herself by turning your accusations around. But not only is her ability far more versatile than she seems to be giving it credit for, your Shikai wasn't relevant to the investigation or the events that unfolded after its conclusion, and you weren't lying about it, either.

"Awww, come ooon, I was just trying to do my best! Believe me! I didn't mean to hurt the investigation or anyone at all!"

"You should have talked to me about it more. We could have reached a compromise."

"But I did talk to you! And you still wanted to call reinforcements anyway! They would have taken all the bounties!" The redhead shakes her small fists. "It's always like this. Nobody ever takes me seriously! Not my colleagues, not the Lieutenant, probably not even the Captain... You don't, either! You can get pretty tired from that sort of treatment, you know! Like I'm a child or something! Just because I'm not over a hundred years old-... that shouldn't even mean anything, it's so stupid!"

(1/2)
>>
>>45263110
Yeah Yasu just called him Shinji for some strange reason. Probably a codename or something so that his identity wouldn't be found out so easily.
>>
>>45263134
Moeka sighs, folding her arms over her chest. "I do feel bad for being dishonest with you, because you're a pretty nice guy, Ryouta-kun, but come on! My luck is just the worst! I keep getting these positions in big, dangerous cities, only to have nothing big or dangerous ever happen during my shifts! ...Until you appeared and said that there was something important going on! So it was my chance to prove myself to everyone. I couldn't just let it slip me by!"

"Is that why you've performed the Konso on Erwin?"

"That's right! I wanted it to be on my name so that I'd be taken seriously!"

"Does that mean that you don't need the money on his head?"

"W-well... It was a secondary concern, but it's still a concern!" She exclaims, flustered. "But... we've made that deal, so I'm still going to share it with you, obviously. H-half and half, alright..?" She manages to sound more than a little unsure about that. Moeka swallows heavily, looking away. "I... I know what you're thinking. I didn't do anything helpful during the investigation, but... W-well, if you really want the money, you can have it... Just... as long as people think that it was me who got the guy, the rest doesn't matter..."

Moeka has done her share of work, even if it was a poor effort. You tell her that you'll follow through with the deal. The redhead sighs in relief.

"Thanks a ton, Ryouta-kun. You're so great! I bet if I had a boyfriend, I'd be wishing that he was as cool as you right now..." Moeka says, smirking.

After a strange pause, she continues. "Look, Ryouta-kun... I'm not gonna lie again, alright? And... I hope I can make it up to you, you know, as a friend. Or... You know..." She winks, smiling again. You don't really know what she's implying.

The sun has set by now. The wrecked street is lit by pale blue lamps. The wind is growing colder, cutting even sharper. You feel some of the exhaustion disappear once you realize that it's all finally over.

"So, Ryouta-kun... About that thing I mentioned. Are you going to stay with me for a few more days? You know... to... make sure that everything's normal?" Moeka asks, though judging by what she's said before, she just doesn't want to stay here alone if she can help it; making sure of the situation has nothing to do with it. Well, that's not a commendable reason by any means, but...

Can we tell Moeka that she has the potential to be lieutenant class, but just hasn't even come close to reaching it?

How do you raise your REIA anyway?
>>
>>45264697
There'll be chances to tell her about it!

REIA goes up with training and time, up to its potential. It's easier to increase when your potential is high, but it always slows down near the peak. But it seems that Moeka doesn't work very hard at all...
>>
>>45264697
Simple.

You have to eat rice balls while sitting on your head whilst doing advanced arithmetic with your other hand.

Oh, and you need to practice forms with your legs while doing all that.
>>
>>45264819
Maybe scolding her might work from her captain, though Shunsui doesn't really seem the type.

I just don't want to get her thrown in the Maggot's Nest because I'm not sure how hair-trigger the Soul Society is with punishing people.
>>
>>45264887
The Maggots' Nest isn't for that sort of offense.
>>
>>45265606
Still I feel like we should admit to her being the one to perform Konso on Erwin, even if we might not like and say that she killed him, but we should credit her with killing Matthias, because that was the only impressive thing she did the whole time.

I just kind of want any criticism to be more "needs improvement and someone to light a fire under her ass" and not "fire this bitch."

>>
>>45265935
Yeah she did do stuff. Fucked up stuff. But honestly, we could have just left her ass to get killed by her own hubris. But to me, it sounds like undermining her in her reports would just result in nothing changing for her, like they're not gonna fire her but they still won't respect her. But if we do make her look good, and she gets promoted, then she's gonna learnt that that involves a lot more hard work than she's been willing to put it. If she decides to stay being a small fish or actually rises to the occasion, at least something constructive will happen.

It's not even a matter of being pissed, she's shown she's willing to put herself over the mission. If she keeps that up, she'll get someone killed.

Jesus fucking Christ, not everything falls into "waifu do not harm!" or "hammer of God". She done fucked up, sure, but she did so for entirely human and non-malicious reasons.
>>
>>45266017
Considering that being in a desperate situation allowed us to realize that we have the potential to be motherfucking Amazo? I have a hard time continuing to hold onto a grudge. Sure hold it over her head for a while, but vindictiveness is not the order of the day here man. It really did work out for the best, and she has the potential to be less of a terrible person (who isn't even quite as terrible as we initially thought because a good amount of us were pretty sure she was gonna try to kill us). Just chill.
>>
>>45266042
She's blatantly incompetent, she needs to be punished and learn from her mistakes, or get kicked out.

>>45266133

I don't think kicking someone out who can learn to be a lieutenant (and would owe us) is a good idea just because she wronged us. I'm not denying she's a fuckup, I'm just saying that spite is shortsighted. Torpedoing her career accomplishes shitall. Increased attention also brings incrreased scrutiny, so if she doesn't change at all, being in the spotlight will take care of ending her ambitions for us.

Nigger that is not what someone who has had a tusk the size of their arm inside of them would say.

Moreover, this isn't about being "vindictive", it's about reporting what she did because it was reckless and stupid, and her being allowed to continue doing so -will- result in loss of life eventually.

But you flipped out because of reasons and we should just let her continue to be stupid and dangerous.

So yeah, let her be, so when she ends up dead, or she ends up getting others killed we can look back and call you a faggot.

Actually, we're going to call you a faggot anyway, though that goes for everyone here honestly.

>>
>>45266891
I'm saying that if we're telling exactly what she did, being able to kill Matthias the way she did was honestly probably not something we'd be able to pull off on our own.
