Stage 110: When Snakes Bite.

Intolerable.

That's what this is.

It is intolerable. And worse, it might have been entirely accidental.

When you plan for the long game – and you have been planning for just that for most of four centuries – it is inevitable that things will go awry. It is simply impossible to plan for everything and you tried very hard to take that into account. But this was just....ridiculous.

You have the resources and power of the second largest group of spirit-children in Japan, one of the most effective Yakuza clans, and ties in enough places and with enough powerful people that you should be capable of coping with almost any contingency that could have risen up before you. Yet this....this child, this teenage rebel has thrown more wrenches into your finely tuned machinations in weeks than any number of mischievous youkai have managed in centuries of willful fuckery. If she had been a child of Susano-Oh, or maybe kitsune born....but that would have been impossible. No, she had to be the daughter of Ryujin Owatatsumi. It was inevitable, you supposed.

It was difficult to keep her coming of age suppressed long enough so that she would take her dragon-nature as her primary nature, rather than the early onset of her demigoddess nature as the primary one. The potions in her food, the wards in her living quarters, the artful handling of her training, it was a grand and unified effort that allowed her to grow without being overly restrained. When her dragon-nature had finally broken through, you were certain that things were going well.

Her first mission was chosen as a nod to your husband's descendants, a simple enough thing to deal with. The propensity for the Kaga heirs to produce daughters was well documented, and with as much Jing as the girl had, the Hojo heiress would produce several sons in succession without problems just by being near her.
>>
It's dragon time!
>>
>>45301289
The further pressure she would have felt towards Clan Ryo after dealing with the much disliked Hojo Heiress was merely incidental. They paid a hefty price for the privilege as well, one that would benefit you greatly in your efforts to achieve your true goal.

This is where things started to go awry, you're certain. Ryukusa somehow managed to catch and dominate an oni-child. To your best knowledge, she had never shown any sign of being a devil-tamer, yet somehow she managed it. Then she went on to lose an arm when that idiot Hojo or his pet demon-child set Susano-Oh's insane brat on her. You had plans for that meeting, but the loss of an arm was troublesome. Even that could have been dealt with. Then some political maneuvering brought foreigners to the safehouse. Foreign soldiers as well as servants of those idiots at the diet!

When they left there, you managed to get things back on track, using her cousin Hauko's minions to push her out of the more isolated safehouse. Except Susano-Oh's brat brought in outside help, and then kidnapped your best hold over Ryukusa, her older 'sister'. As if that wasn't enough, the damn dragonette then proceeded to get that stupid little Fire dragonette to help her retrieve the sorceress Er Yin from the warded barrier. That turned out to be a minor blessing in disguise – Ryukusa somehow managed to regrow an arm. What wasn't good was that she managed to defeat not one but TWO demigoddesses in a fight shortly thereafter.

Things went downhill rapidly from there.

She vanished, this time seemingly off the face of the planet. Not even the Oracle could determine where she was, and if that wasn't enough, she rescued her sister and made an alliance or some kind of bargain with the damn foreign spirit-child that served as the head priestess of the Temple of Forgotten Stones and Flowers, Hinata. Your spies confirmed that she also dealt with the servants of Kuraokami....but she ~didn't~ return the oni-child.
>>

>>45301320
Then you sent her cousin to confront her directly when Hojo sent in more troops to try and capture her, only discovering her new hideout by accident. Not only were they there, but the Kaja were getting involved as well, slaughtering cat youkai in an effort to prevent one of the Oracle's predictions from coming true, in the guise of Christian priests. That worked out badly for them though. Not only did Ryukusa defeat Hauko, she managed to turn him against you too, to say nothing of outright destroying the Kaja influence on the mainland. Oh, but only if it had stopped there!

Ryukusa somehow made contact with the servants of Horobi, who have undoubtedly told her about her true nature....and if THAT wasn't enough, the damn Ainu priestess Kiku and the sorceress she kept from you were now willing to risk life and limb for her! It was bad enough that she had her sister, but now Hojo lacked their hold over Kiki, and the Clan Kaja had no influence either. So you pulled back and watched, waited patiently. Sure enough, it didn't take long for Ryukusa to seek out trouble.

Trouble, in this case, meaning making alliances with other spirit children – disgusting yako-children and pathetic human Yakuza, of all things – as well as another kamuy, and having a party. Which you had the decency to put an end to by allowing some of your friends in the police know about. Except then that idiot Hojo or his damn catamite got the foreigners involved again, this time sending hideous half-breed abominations to do their dirty work. You sent out a strike team immediately, and while they were attempting to bring your wayward tools back to you, they not only failed, they verified that the berserker that you'd been assured would never turn against her family not only turned against her family but turned against you as well!
>>
You are still alive! I am so relived.

Never satisfied with merely battling the enemy, Ryukusa and Akari scared the strike team so badly you're now forced to turn the elite and most trustworthy members of Clan Ryo to make any moves whatsoever against Ryukusa's efforts. Despite your punishment, none of the lesser Clan warriors will face off against Ryukusa now: they have verified she is a demigoddess, and that not even Akari's elder sister was willing to fight the pair. It doesn't help that she's managed to collect two powerful magic weapons from kami knows where. Weapons which were apparently enough to let her slaughter Hojo's foreign troops and the abominations they'd brought with them.

So now you have been betrayed by Ryukusa, Matagama Kiku, AND Hebiki Akari; the Huntress Kamuy (and you suspect this is at the behest of the Kamuy of the Hearth) has seen fit to pit her daughter against you; the servants of Horobi gather around the reincarnation of their lord; Clan Hojo and Clan Kaga have shut their doors to you; and now your head bodyguard Sakumo is nowhere to be found. You suspect he's dead, because you have not been able to reach out to him through the Void at all. Worse, in a month (a mere month!) Ryukusa has done more to undermine your credibility among the spiritual warriors and powers in Japan than all of the secret societies, sorcerers, priests, and kami have in centuries. Not only that, the the other two most viable candidates for possessing a true Kami or Kamuy of the greatest power are all under her protection – there is no chance you can ascend to true godhood without capturing or collecting her and her companions. At this rate you wouldn't be shocked if Amaterasu-Omikami came down and took Ryukusa's side herself.

Welcome back, Seer.

The question now is what you, Siatmakko Yayoi, possessor of Kinashut Kamuy, Oba-san and Head of Clan Ryo, wielder of Amenonuhoko, soon to be the First Ascended Greater Kami since the Deification of Tenjin, are going to do about her while she sits in what she believes to be the relative safety on Mikimoto Pearl Island.

>Oba-san may only make one choice, but they are best informed choices possible. The choice of “Consult the Oracle” is always available; the Oracle will deliver cryptic but valuable information that has a very good chance of achieving a short term goal, a good chance of assisting the long term goal, and a slim chance of being too cryptic to be of use. There is also the chance she may deliver an unrelated warning. The choice of “Use Sorcery” will be qualified depending on circumstance, and is usually available. As always, write-ins receive first priority.

[] Call upon the elders of Clan Ryo for discussion on what to do about the wayward Ryuu Ryukusa, while pressing for capture rather than execution.
[] Call your personal cadre of samurai and ninja to consult on these issues, since they are absolutely loyal and trustworthy to you personally.
[] Utilize your network of contacts to see exactly what those Hojo, Kaga, and Diet politicians are doing now; the ignorant fools have caused enough trouble.
[] Consult the Oracle.
[] Use Sorcery to draw Ryukusa out and misdirect her attentions.

Indecision is a painful thing for you, but to be perfectly honest, Ryuu Ryukusa has really gone out of her way to be a pain in the....anyways, you consider more carefully your real options.

As useful as the elders of Clan Ryo are, the problem is that they are both very much stuck in the 1800's and they tend to be extremely abrupt when dealing with issues that could cause trouble for the clan. Say, a renegade shinobi who holds the lynch-pin of two other clans alliances together hostage. At least you hope she's only holding her hostage. You can't imagine the disaster it would be if she actually got Kumatori Kiki pregnant.

The other two options are far more easy to deal with. The Elite are those warriors and mystics of Clan Ryu who are personally invested in your project. The ascension of the head of Clan Ryo to the state of being a Great Kami can only give them greater power, and would vault Clan Ryo into the same level of eminence as the entirety of the Chinese Triads, the Mafia, and other world-renowned organizations. They are among the most power, the most intelligent, and most loyal of the Clan, and they will die for you in a heartbeat. They are also much older and more capable than the dragonette and most of her allies. Sending them would be a surgical strike against her.

Using your contacts would give you far greater insight into her position, those with her, and more importantly, might reveal what has been going on with those Kaja and Hojo idiots. Whether Kumatori Hojo or Taisho Ryoga is to blame, they have been making moves that have caused you serious problems, to say nothing of putting your plans in jeopardy. The Kaga are clearly up to something, and after Ryukusa put an end to their plans prematurely, they have taken to the shadows entirely. The Diet also seem to have taken some steps, and this is displeasing because you were quite certain you had most of them under control of....various sorts.
>>
>>45301868
The Oracle is always a chancy option at best. But she has served you well and faithfully for more than three hundred years, and she would not dare disappoint you now. On the other hand....she has been....curiously reticent as of late, and that is worrisome. Perhgap0s it has been too long since you saw her last.

Sorcery. Your true calling, the thing that has set you apart from all the humans in the world and assisted you in your quest to become a kami yourself. You have been forced to do so much of your work in the shadows, hidden from the spiritual world and the mundane world alike. It is the ultimate tool, and the most valuable resource. With it you can at the very least bring Ryukusa closer to home. It might serve as a reminder that she has alienated the most important person in her entire life....

You rise from the seat in your personal chambers, and set aside the dark liquor you have been sipping from as you contemplated your next move. It is not necessarily the most obvious or most aggressive of moves, but you have been doing this for a very long time. Information, as always, is the weapon that allows the deepest of cuts to be made by the most skillful of surgeons, without causing undue harm to the patient.

'Undue harm' being, naturally, somewhat up for debate.

You walk towards the door, shedding your finery and robes in favor of more simple and common robes. As you shed jewels and silks, you add years upon years, your muscles and bones cracking and shifting as you age five years for every step you take across the room. When you open the door to your vestibule, you are once more the kindly looking old grandmother that cares for Clan Ryo. You pull the old ceramic and bamboo pipe from you robe as you close the doors to your personal quarters and your vestibule. Then you slowly walk to the outer doors.

The two oni-children who sit upon either side of the door look up immediately as you slide the door away with aged hands. “Ah-chan, Oh-chan, how nice to see you!” The sisters immediately rise and bow deeply. “Oh, no need, no need. Please fetch little Himeyuri-chan for me, would you dear? Have her and second meet me in the sitting room, would you dear?”

Ah and Oh glance at each other, their hands moving in quick succession – rock, paper scissors – then rock, and paper. Ah immediately runs off, her long hair flying as she moves quickly to obey. Oh stands and looks down – way, way down, for you've lost almost a foot and a half of height and she was tall to begin with – and bows again. “Please allow me the honor of accompanying you, Oba-chan,” she says in her rushing voice of soft waters. For twins they are opposites in so many ways.

“Of course, dear. Have you heard anything from Sakumo-kun? I do miss him....he has been gone some time now.” There is no flicker of worry, no indication that there is anything at all amiss in her expression, and you smile dotingly at her as she lies to your face.

“None, Oba-chan, none at all.” you – rather, Kinashut Kamuy – can see it in her mind, how there is a rumor that he is dead, that a search party has been sent back to Miura to search for him where the warriors found a decidedly much more dangerous Ryukusa than they had anticipated. “I am certain he will return soon, Oba-chan. Please allow this worthless warrior to assist while she may.”

“Of course, dear Oh-chan, of course.” You allow her to accompany you to the meeting room, where Ah-chan waits at the doorway, and lamps have been lit inside. The shadows of those you have called for await within.

[] Have Ah and Oh wait outside – they are elites, but you hope Sakumo will return soon, and not need replacing.
[] Have them sit inside the room near the door. You may as well get started training them to replace Sakumo, the poor bastard.
[] Have the more calm and thoughtful Oh join you inside, and the temperamental and vicious Ah wait outside.

[X] Have them sit inside the room near the door. You may as well get started training them to replace Sakumo, the poor bastard.

“Please come in my dears, this is to concern you as well as Himeyuri-chan.” Ah and Oh share a look, their thoughts identical for that instant – Fire and Water becoming one through Void. You totter into the room where Himeyuri kneels on a tatami mat at the front of the raised section of the meeting room. Behind her are her three subordinates: the clever Metal dragonette Biko, the quietly monstrous Water dragonne Yakumo, and the mysterious and secretive youkai-born Shinju. Ryuu Himeyuri herself is human, though she is a mystic and capable of using the ancient arts of the shimegami. The more she serves you, the more power she can gain from you, and the more tightly bound to you she is.

Ah and Oh place themselves on either side of the doorway after shutting it behind them, even that simple task split between them. They kneel calmly, their impassive faces and bright eyes giving nothing away, as it should be. A gesture from Himeyuri sends Biko scurrying to serve you tea, as you settle your aged bones on the thick pillow. “Thank you Biko-chan,” you murmur, gratefully accepting the bitter green tea from her. She bounces in her bow, her energetic nature barely contained, and as plausible as your age.

“Yakumo-kun, watcher of the Diet; Biko-chan, knowing the ways of our fellow Clans; spiritualist Shinju-chan who sees to the world of our kind; Himeyuri-san....tell me everything.” You lean forward, puffing on your pipe as you support yourself.
>>

Himeyuri looks startled for only an instant, but it is enough. She gestures, and you hear it all. Every piece of information. And it paints a dangerous, dark picture indeed. Sakumo's death is no surprise, but you can feel the shock and understanding of Ah and Oh as they realize they are to be his replacement. Himeyuri herself gives you the best overview and summation she can, and her outlook is equally bleak.

“So.” It is as you feared – worse than you feared. The Kaga are beginning their move against the mainland; Hojo has been utterly and truly duped by the demon-child he supposes serves him; and Ryukusa is preparing to seize her birthright.

Shit.

[] Order Ah and Oh to retrieve one of those close to Ryukusa. You need a bargaining chip, and you won't risk them trying to fight her yet.
[] Call upon five of the Elite – they must strike while Inari is still weakened, and bring back one of the three vessels you can use.
[] Have Himeyuri send some of her people to collect those who are not yet protected by Ryukusa and her family; you can still get leverage over Ryukusa and Kiku that way.
[] Consult the Oracle.
[] Dismiss Himeyuri's people and use Sorcery to empower Ah and Oh to stop Ryukusa before she becomes too powerful.

Enough of this shonen crap, we need to understand a situation that is spiraling out of our control. That means that there are players here we don't yet understand.

>>

Indeed it is. Although it does make her seem like less of a formidable opponent.

Not that she isn't impressively powerful, just not as much as I thought.

I guess Ryukusa actually getting lost for good in the Lovecraftian hell dimension would have shitted on her plans even more

[X] Order Ah and Oh to retrieve one of those close to Ryukusa. You need a bargaining chip, and you won't risk them trying to fight her yet.

“Ah-chan, Oh-chan....I wish for you to bring me one of those who are upon Mikimoto Pearl Island. Do not fight Ryukusa-chan, and kill no one. We must speak with our lost lamb, and she must be encouraged to come quickly and without deciding to kill many of us.” The oni-blooded twin rise. “And be cautious; it is no small feat to have defeated Sakumo-kun.”

That sobers the normally vicious Ah quickly enough, and Oh looks even more serious than usual. They bow to you and step outside, and then they are gone.

“Are you certain that is wise, Oba-san?” Himeyuri is always so formal, it's so cute.

You smile and rekindle your pipe as Biko-chan hides laughter behind her sleeve, and Yakumo sneers. Shinju, as usual, does nothing more than smile slightly. She, of the three may be wisest. For all her frailty, Himeyuri is not someone to be trifled with, and her opinion, even a negative one, was never voiced without thought. The fools never learn that humans are the most dangerous monster of all....you're living proof of that, are you not?

~SCENE CHANGE~

Your name is Ryuu Ryukusa, currently going by Aoi, your nickname, and you've just brought your new friend to meet some more of your family. The fact that said family consists of a nogitsune-child who has achieved enlightenment and is helping the demigod daughter of the Huntress Kamuy make nusa as an offering to your father, the Dragon God of the Sea, under the watchful supervision of the nearly two-hundred year old Fire dragonette priestess while your bound oni-child slave feeds your injured best friend, a Stone dragonette blessed by the God of Oni....well, she's pretty overwhelmed.

You can't really say that you blame her.

[] Eh-heh....really they're nice people. Really!
[] Uhhhhh....yeah, I may have understated the matter of excitement in my life.
[] And over here we have my best friend, Akari. You might have met her in school?

That's not how we're going to introduce her, it was just Ryukusa's private thoughts.

[X] Well, heaven. There's just no help for it.

Ginka is more than a little overwhelmed, and you take the effort to actually blush. More to reassure her that you're embarrassed, because really, you are. You've jest never blushed when you're embarrassed by yourself because generally you can rationalize everything. You're cutting back on that, but poor Ginka is in desperate need of some reassurance.

“Well, when I say complicated, what I really may have meant is that my life is an absolute mess? A normal life really would have been nice, I mean. Anyways....” You gesture with open hand at each name. “Inau-san, assisting Kiku-sama whom you have seen before I'm sure, Yuuhi-chan who is a lot smarter than she looks, and Yui-chan, whom you've already met. This is my best friend Akari; you may have met her in school.” Inau looked up and smiled, while Kiku was praying, and Yuuhi-chan is studiously making sure she is performing the tying of knots properly and will not be distracted. Walking over to join Akari and Yui, you and Ginka kneel next to the futon. “We'll save formal introductions until they're not so busy over there.”

Yui gives Ginka a wave as she sets the bowl of soup down, while Akari smiles tiredly, but you can see she has recognized Ginka. Ginka's expression is dubious, as though she's unsure, but you can tell she'll remember fairly quickly. “Yui-chan, Akari-chan, this is Toshida Ginka; a new friend, and who has been kind enough to introduce me to her diving clan.”

Ginka's eyes light up as she recognizes Akari. “Ah, you were the one who was excused from physical education classes!”

Really? You give Akari a dubious look but she makes a slight gesture, indicating it is nothing important in the real world. Well, your shared and very dangerous world.

“You were the one everyone was making wild rumors about. I remember that they were all entirely made up, which didn't surprise me.” Akari smiles a little more. “You were too kind and generous for them to like you, I think.”

That has Ginka blushing, which is an interesting for of situation. You also take note of her noticing the rings that your niji-chans are wearing. “Oh....congratulations....” Ginka says in utter sincerity and Akari lowers her eyes, while Yui-chan beams. “And thank you for believing in me. I really appreciate that.”

Akari makes a sharp cutting off gesture. “Don't mention it, please; you were always kind to me.”

You decide to interrupt before the awkward silence starts. “As you can see, we're all really nice. Although Kiki-hime might not have been exaggerating when she said she was the least strange person here, sadly,” you add with a frown, making Yui snicker at you. She doesn't stop when you glare at her either. “ANYWAYS....I really wouldn't have made it this far without Akari and Yui. Together they're an unbeatable team.”

That makes Yui-chan blush, as it was intended, while Akari runs her hand along her lover's back lightly. “Ryuu Yui and I are Aoi-sama's assistants. If you can't get a hold of her, please rely on us.” Yui nods enthusiastically, still brick red.

Ginka smiles and bows her head, appreciating the offer. “I will, thank you both very kindly!” It sounds like the others are finished with making the offering bundle, and a quick glance confirms it.

[XX] Let these two get back to lunch, and see if Ginka would like lunch with the rest of you.
[XX] Try and get Ginka to relax a little more.

You pick up the bowl of soup and hand it back to Yui-niji-chan, who takes it carefully. “Rest for now, Akari-chan; you and Yui can hold down the fort here....I think Yuuhi-chan....” You pause because Ginka went absolutely stock still; Yui is looking a little alarmed, while Akari is blinking sleepily at the three feet of blade extended past Ginka's neck. “...has apparently decided to make something of a liar out of me for no reason I can adequately determine yet?”

You slowly turn to look at Yuuhi-chan, who is quite seriously holding her nodachi along Ginka's throat. Kiku-chan has a handful of her wards though they're held at her side and aren't engulfed in supernatural flames or spread out threateningly. Inau-kun looks as startled as Yui does. You suspect Kiku-chan is merely preparing to back Yuuhi's play, for whatever reason Yuuhi might have. Unfortunately there could be a dozen of them, and many of them utterly harmless. On the other hand, she might be genuinely concerned about something.

[] Ask politely if there's any particular reason she is threatening your friend.
[] Gently inform your overzealous bodyguard Ginka is not a threat.
[] Explain to Yuuhi kindly that she is not helping Ginka relax.

The exact option was "[X] Order Ah and Oh to retrieve one of those close to Ryukusa. You need a bargaining chip, and you won't risk them trying to fight her yet. "
The precise wording was "I wish for you to bring me one of those who are upon Mikimoto Pearl Island. Do not fight Ryukusa-chan, and kill no one. We must speak with our lost lamb, and she must be encouraged to come quickly and without deciding to kill many of us.”

Ah-chan and Oh-chan aren't stupid to be elites; (at least, they really shouldn't be). Given that, they should know that they'd want to grab someone who's not part of the immediate family - given that that would lead to blood-

But they would need someone close enough that Ryukusa would be willing to risk a trap to "talk".

Peta and Yuuhi-chan are actually close to that, but Ginka is a more risky option that Ryukusa wouldn't care enough.

Still, it might work for them
>>
>>45305357
They're probably not stupid, but you never know what they're working with - maybe their briefing on Ryukusa's family didn't go into great detail on everyone, and combined with there being a good number of people here and only Ginko not in the family, and how quickly Ryukusa expands said family, they might overlook her not being part of it.

Or they just figure the low risk for decent chance of it working is good enough reason to pick Ginko, family or not.

I wonder if their name are the sounds they will make after Ryukusa is done with them.

I don't think Ryukusa would lewd them, so my bet is that it's the sound they'll do when Ginka is done with them.

Now, I don't know if she's into hot oni ninja, but she might be.
>>
>>45305548
I mean, can anyone truly NOT be into hot Oni ninja? It is merely a choice of embracing or rejecting your urges.

[XX] Ask politely if there's any particular reason she is threatening your friend.
[XXXX] ….introduce Ginka to your incredibly over-clocked samurai.
[X] Explain to Yuuhi kindly that she is not helping Ginka relax.

Looking up at your nogitsune samurai, you can see that she's actually very well aware of what she's doing, and that there isn't any question that Ginka is some kind of threat to you for her to be this....proactive. You know for a fact she didn't have to present such a threat to Ginka in order to be an effective deterrent, so there is some point to this display. So the reasonable response is the one you take.

“Yuuchi, is there something that makes you think Ginka-chan is some kind of threat to me?” Keeping your voice calm and gentle seems to reassure Ginka and she relaxes just a little. Very little, but it is something.

Yuuhi, on the other hand, does not move or relax at all. “She is dangerous to you, Ryukusa-sama.” Her voice is strangely flat, as devoid of emotion as she can possibly make it, but her glance to you speaks volumes. The regret and apology in them is enough to assure you that her warning is quite real, though you suspect that she really would rather not hurt the kappa-girl.

Leaning back a little, you look into Ginka's worried face. “This, by the way, is Yuuhi-chan, who is my incredibly protective and seriously proactive samurai. And I mean that in the original, real sense of the word.”

Ginka swallows, and looks straight ahead; to her credit, she manages a rather shaky, but still surprisingly pleasant, “Um....hello?”

“Ohayo. Please forgive me, but I cannot allow you to harm my master. MISTRESS. Um. Aniki.” The apology creeps into Yuuhi's voice, though she's clearly trying to prevent that.

“I think that you may have gotten it wrong, in some manner, Yuuhi-chan,” you comment softy. Inau-kun is slowly moving up behind Yuuhi-chan, but you quickly lift a hand and she stops, trusting your judgment. Also, you're pretty sure she is in no way prepared to get the crap beaten out of her by a senile nogitsune-child in a manner that wouldn't help the situation or prevent Yuuhi from protecting you. “Really, I was trying to get her to relax, and this is kind of not helping that at all.”

The look of pained anguish on Yuuhi's face makes your heart catch just a bit. “I think this is a poor idea, aniki.”

Kiku flicks the wards and talismans back into her sleeve and she lays a gentle hand on Yuuhi's arm. Which notably doesn't even shift the kitsune's poise. “I understand, Yuuchi. I'll be careful. I don't think it's really Ginka-chan you're worried about.” The sword lowers and Ginka visibly relaxes.

“No, aniki,” the nogitsune murmurs miserably. You nod and Inau-kun steps slowly forward and lays a hand on Yuuhi's shoulder. Yui falls flat on her back with a loud sigh that makes Ginka jump and then look relieved, while Akari simple smiles and shrugs to her, further reassuring her. “Gomennasai, aniki.”

“Don't apologize for doing your duty, Yuuchi,” you murmur, standing up and giving her a hug. “We can talk about it later.” She nods miserably into your shoulder as she sheathes her sword behind your back. Which is something you sure as heaven couldn't manage with your nodachi. Her tail wraps around your back and you twine yours about hers gently.

Ginka smiles shakily up at you as you let go of your fox, keeping her tail trapped with yours. “Sorry about that. I hope it didn't put you off your appetite?” She shakes her head a little. “Good....with your permission, priestess....may we break for lunch?”

Kiku-chan nods. “Yes. Except for you – you are fasting. Water only.” Her voice brooks no argument and has the ring of finality to it.

….kamidamnit!

Thanks for running, XS! It was amazing, as always.

My question is: does Ryukusa know the general powers and roles of Oh, Ah and Himeyuri,
>>
As many of you know, I have had chronic lung problems caused by severe asthma for all my life which include a lot of high potency medication, low body weight, and some brain chemistry issues the medication cause. The asthma has caused permenent damage to my lungs, which includes a lot of scarring, enough that the scarrign shows up on x-rays (it actually looks like the death star exploding inside my chest, no joke).

Sometimes the scar tissue will perforate my lung, leading to pneumothorax, which is a gap between the lung and the pleural lining of the lung, creating a small air pocket. Typically this is a small amount of seperation, that can heal by itself in a few weeks. This time, the damage was to a lower lobe, in my lefgt lung, and it became infected.

We will just have to drink and eat something else other than food.
>>45306099
A better question is, would she think they're the next ones to be sent? If Ah and Oh are the ones a step lower than Sakumo in bodyguarding, it stands to reason that they, or the ones lower on the totem pole would be sent (if any).
>>
>>45305988

So, the net result is that they had to remove a few ounces of my damaged and scarred lung tissue and essentially burn the perforated/exposed bronchial passages/area closed. It doesn't affect my breathing other than prevent me from breathing very deeply, which is something I avoid anyway (because it really, really hurts to stretch the scar tissue that much). Because they kept me in an oxygen tent most of that time, I couldn't use any electronics to communicate online, and bedrest was required after the release as well. I am healing well and there shouldn't be any further trouble from that area at this time.

>>45306051
It isn't, but she wouldn't mind eating with her family.

>>45306099
she knows all three, and knows their general roles - Warrior, Warrior, and Spy/Intelligence gathering. she is aware that they are all elite warriors of the Clan. she also knows of the other three, but does not know them as well.
>>
>>45306151

You live in the old US of A, don't you? I thought your healthcare was expensive as shit, but you apparently still have internet access and some kind of PC or tablet to use it despite a serious chronic illness that just required treatment for a month straight so I guess it can't be that bad?

Anyway, good luck with the healing! I hope you won't have any more serious issues for a long time.
>>
>>45306182
She is actually be expecting other Elites, and not Ah and Oh, who are valuable bodyguards and shinobi.

>>

Hey, don't stress it XS. The smut can wait (a while anyway) when needed, like say after 30 days of bedrest and inactivity.
>>
>>45306326
I have an HMO and it's still going to cost me a lot of money, but they will accept payments because they don't have any choice. They won't refuse medical care, but the bills are going to set me back several thousand dollars even with insurance (which would be somewhere around 20-40 thousand without).
>>
>Oba-shit being continuously short on bodyguards because they keep meeting Ryukusa&family.
>>
>>45306387
That sucks, although given the $2k+ for an ambulance ride and $15k for 3-days hospital stay horror stories I've heard, $20 - $40k uninsured was still way less than my assumption to be honest.

>>45306367

Unless you've got incompatible software Win10 is better.

A thing I've always wondered but never could ask before.

Shinto prayers consist of clapping twice to make the deities listen to you, the actual prayer, then clapping twice again to signal you're done. What would happen if you clap once at either time, or not at all?
>>
>>45307145
Terry Pratchett had an answer to this.
You wake up with a bunch of gods with bats and two-by-fours with nails in them, and they teach you how to REALLY pray.
>>
>>45307176
I'm trying to pray, not live the thug lyfe here.
>>
>>45307234
Well, if gods are real and you constantly cold call them and don't hang up properly, what do you think they're going to react with?

It's like making a radio transmission without going "Over" at the end of your transmission, over.
>>
>>45307145
The clapping is to make them aware of your presence. This is the reason clapping is exceedingly rude in Japan. If you do not clap twice, they won't be listening. If you don't end your prayer, you will be listened to constantly and kami can be very.....basic in their understanding of things (see Bakemongatari for examples). ther eis also the possibility that other things you don't want interested in you might hear you as well - youkai or obake for example.
>>
>>45307862
Thank you for the information!
Will you hear it if we clap twice, loud enough?
