You are Lamont Escher, and last time, you met one of the S-rank adventurers, Palla Seiard. And now you're walking with her. This was so exciting.

"Um, er, Miss Seiard?" You ask.

"Yes?" Palla replies.

"I was wondering... Can I ask you a question?" Your heart is practically racing like mad. What do you even say to a powerful woman like her? Your mind searches for things to talk about.

"Of course." Palla causally says. "What about?"

>Ask her about how she came to be an adventurer.
>Ask her has she met any other S-ranks.
>Ask her about who her old friend is.
>>
>>45347891
>Ask her about how she came to be adventurer
>>
>>45347891
"How did you become an S-rank?" You ask Palla.

"Hmm... That's a bit of a story to tell..." The paladin has a thoughtful look on her face. "Well, long ago, I was born into a noble family of knights that serve the king. I was taught the ways of the sword by an old family friend, who also happened to be a bit of a... lecher." Palla narrows her eyes at the part. "Soon, I became an adventurer at this very town, and I took on an A-rank mission when I was in my teens. Then I began to do them regularly until my fame grew to the point where I became an S-rank." The white-haired woman finishes her tale.

You just stare at her in awe. "...Amazing."

"Anything else?" Palla asks.

>Who is this old friend of yours?
>Do you know any other S-Ranks?

>Do you know any other S-ranks?
>>
>>45348563
"Do you know any other S-ranked adventurers?" You ask.

"Hm. I do remember meeting a girl with golden armor. She had quite the peculiar personality." Palla says, frowning. "She always seemed to have a blank expression on her face, but she also gave off an aura of warmth when I first met her."

"What was her name?" You ask hesitantly.

"Kaire Bueller, if I recall correctly." Palla says. "I'd say her battle strength is quite at my level, considering how many missions she undertook before."

Bueller... Wasn't that Kline's family name? You definitely had to ask him when he comes back from his trip. It seems quite strange to be related to an S-ranked adventurer and not tell anyone.

You then see Palla stop in mid-step, looking at the fountain in the center plaza. "Ah, I always like coming here to see something beautiful like this..." She sighs, turning to you. "Don't you think so?"

>"Yes."
>"I don't think so."
>"I'm not sure."

>"Yes."
>>

>"Yes."
>>
>>45349137
"Y-Yes, I have." You say, nodding. "This is a lovely fountain."

"It just seems so different than the one back at the capital." Palla sighs. "Especially where there's no large statue of the king spewing water from his mouth."

You stiffen at that. "B-But doesn't the statue signify his triumph over the regional warlords that used to have a civil war in this country?"

"Yes, but nowadays most people have forgotten it." The paladin sighs. "I assume because they're not interested in old war stories that even happened before their time."

You slowly nod as you and Palla reach the inn, the sign saying, "White Wing Inn".

"Well, we are here. I suppose my comrades are inside, bickering with each other." Palla sighs.

"They sound like a handful." You agree.

"Oh, yes. But I couldn't just leave them alone just to make any more trouble." Palla sighs. "So, I used a show of force to keep them in line, and all of a sudden, they want to become my disciples. It's a little silly, really."

"Do you think other S-rank adventurers have disciples of their own?" You ask.

"Well, I have heard of a few that do, although I've never met them personally." Palla admits. "Then again, most of them are quite strong enough to take down armies."

>"Are you serious?"
>"That's amazing..."
>"They sure sound quite dangerous..."
>>
>>45349465
>"Are you serious?"
>>
>>45349465
"A-Are you serious?" You ask.

"Quite. I heard rumors about them taking down strong monsters and destroying unlawful organizations." Palla states in a firm tone. "I wouldn't be surprised if Kaire didn't do her share of defeating fearsome opponents."

A shiver runs down your spine just thinking about it. Just how strong are these people?!

"D-Did you ever fight someone strong as you are, Miss Seiard?" You question.

"Well, once I met a dragon who terrorized a village, who didn't like it being so close to its lair." The paladin states. "So, I went to deal with the beast and fought it. It nearly managed to overwhelm me, but I managed to give the finishing blow and killed it."

"By the gods..." You murmur.

"It wasn't easy." Palla says. "An experienced Dragon Knight could've handled it, but I just wanted to test my family heirloom out." She gestures towards her blade.

"Is it a holy sword?" You reply.

"Yes. It was handed down in my family for generations. It belonged to a legendary knight of the realm, who was known for dispelling evil." The white-haired beauty smiles.

"What's its name?" You timidly ask.

"Grahilde." The paladin responds in a cool tone.

What do you say?

>"Can I touch it?"
>"Does it still have the power to cleave evil?"
>"To think a Divine Weapon exists..."
>>
>>45349857
>"Does it still have the power to cleave evil?"
>>
>>45349857
"Does the power to destroy evil still remain?" You ask.

"Yes, it is a Divine Weapon, after all." Palla laughs. "It was created by the gods themselves during the Great Cataclysm."

"I see..." You nod. You were aware of the story of the battle of the gods and the weapons used in the war were forgotten and lost until humans discovered them and kept them for their own.

"Hm. Anyways, I should probably go check in on my subordinates. You're welcome to join me for lunch, though." Palla says. The two of you enter the inn and see Tana and Argen arm-wrestling at a table.

"Give it up, bitch! I'm gonna win this one good!" Argen growls.

"Fool. You will not win this battle." Tana narrows her eyes at her opponent. "Admit defeat and let me take the title of victor."

"Never!" The hunter and brawler are in a deadlock of epic proportions.

Who do you cheer for?

>Argen.
>Tana.
>No one.

>No one.
>>
>>45350300
You just watch as the two are going at it. Eventually, the contest is broken up by Palla clapping her hands.

"All right, you two. I think that is enough playing around for today." The paladin smiles, although not in a happy way.

Tana and Argen immediately rest their arms onto the table, looking at Palla in slight fear.

"I woulda won." Argen grumbles.

"Only in your dreams." Tana mutters.

"Enough," Palla calls out, one of her hands going to the hilt of her blade. "Or do I have to give you another reminder?"

The two disciples stand up from their seats and quickly shake their heads.

"Good. Now, go and get ready. We've got a big day ahead of us and I do not want to be late like last time." Palla states the last part in a cool tone.

"Yes, ma'am." Tana and Argen rush upstairs in a hurry.

"They seem to be well-trained." You say.

"Only in my presence." She sighs. "I do not know why they're so adamant on competing with each other. It is so frustrating."

"I should get going now." You say and start to leave.

"Wait," Palla stops you and walks towards you. "I have something to give to you before you go."

>"What is it?"
>I couldn't possibly accept something from you!"
>>
>>45351048
>>I couldn't possibly accept something from you!"
We are not worthy!
>>
>>45351048
"Oh, no, I-I couldn't..." You stammer nervously.

"Nonsense." Palla replies as she gives you something she pulls out of her pocket. You look at it and... it's a beautiful shining emerald ring.

"My gods, it's lovely." You whisper.

"Yes, well, I really had no use for something that amplifies healing magic." The white-haired woman sighs. "Since you are training to be a healer, I figured this might help you in your training."

"...Thank you. Thank you very much." You bow to the paladin.

"It's nothing, really. Shouldn't you be going now?" Palla reminds you. You quickly nod and leave the inn, heading back to the guild. You could not wait to tell the story of your day to your friends!

As you enter the guild hall, you see Evelyn and Herschel, aruging among each other.

"I almost fucking died, no thanks to your skinny ass!" The rogue is barking at the silver haired mage.

"I tried to help you, you inconsiderate jerk!" Evelyn screams at him.

"Help?! Your help was about as helpful as trying to throw oil into the fire! I had that fucking minotaur on the ropes until you hurled a fireball at my ass!" Herschel shouts.

"I didn't mean to do that! My aim was off!" The mage stomps her foot.

Oh, dear.

>Just keep watching.
>Try to stop them.
>Ignore them.
>>
>>45351372
>Try to stop them.
>>
>>45351372
"Please stop!" You shout at the bickering duo, their attention locked onto you. "What is going on?"

"Evelyn decided to take her hatred out on me just because I was taking charge on the mission!" Herschel snaps.

"Why would I want to burn you? Maria seemed to do a pretty good job on doing that last time!" Evelyn snaps.

"Why do you keep bringing up old shit?!" Herschel glares at her.

"It's not that old, you dumbass!" Evelyn puts her hands onto her hips.

"Both of you, please!" You plead. "You two shouldn't fight with each other!"

"Fine. This is a waste of my time, anyways." Herschel then storms off.

"Bastard!" Evelyn shouts out after him and lets out a sigh. "I can't believe how Kline tolerates that idiot."

"Herschel isn't that bad." You say.

"Not that bad? You didn't see him try to be a damn hero when the minotaur was attacking the caravan! If there wasn't a healer nearby, I would've have to drag his heavy ass back to the nearest town for healing!" Evelyn complains.

>"Just what happened out there?!"
>"But he's usually not that rash..."
>"...Do I even want to know?"
>>
>>45351650
>"But he's usually not that rash..."
>>
>>45351650
"I might be mistaken, but I never knew Herschel to be this rash." You say.

"Apparently, neither did I. He was acting all foolhardy when he saw that horned beast chasing after a blonde noble girl. I swear, I hoped that minotaur would cave his head in the minute he thrust his blades into its ass." Evelyn snorts.

"...Really?" You say in bafflement.

"Yes, but to my surprise, it just howled and threw him into a carriage, which he bounced off of and landed onto a fat lady, his face planted into her cleavage. It would've been funny as hell, if the situation weren't so serious." The mage sighs.

"I see." You nod. "And then what happened?"

"After I shot my fire spell at his ass, I used a thunder spell on the minotaur, frying it to ashes. Just in time, too." She takes off her hat and fans herself. "I don't think Herschel would've survived more embarrassment to his manhood being cut down."

You quickly shudder. "Please don't say things like that."

"Sorry, sorry." Evelyn chuckles. "Didn't mean it to come out that way. So, Lamont. What have you been up to?"

>"Well..."
>"It was like this..."
>"Oh, nothing..."
>>
>>45351794
>>"Well..."
>>
>>45351794
"Well.." You tell her about how you met Palla Seiard and how your day went with her. After you finish, Evelyn just stands there, amazed.

"Oh my gods," She starts. "I wish I had stayed here instead of going with that idiot Herschel. Palla Seiard is one of my idols!"

"R-Really?" You say.

"Of course! She doesn't take crap from anyone!" Evelyn says. "And her sword... It can cut through demons like butter!" Her eyes are practically sparkling.

"...I see." You say.

"What's the matter?" Evelyn looks at you, concerned.

>"Oh, nothing."
>"She reminds me of my sister."
>"I'm just sad I didn't get to say goodbye to her."
>>
>>45352124
>"I'm just sad I didn't get to say goodbye to her."
>>
>>45352124
"I'm just sad that I never got the chance to say goodbye." You sigh.

"I'm sure you'll see her again soon!" Evelyn says. "You can count on it!"

"Thank you." You say warmly to the mage. "I just hope nothing else goes awry today.

Suddenly, a loud scream comes from the barracks.

"What was that?!" you shout.

"Trouble. Come on!" Evelyn rushes off towards the barracks, you following her.

The two of you enter the women's barracks and see an open door. You wonder if one of the men had finally snapped and tried to molest their comrades.

"All right, on my mark. Three, two, one, GO!" You and Evelyn burst into the room and recoil in shock. In the room is a terrified female rogue, trembling over at the black robed figure lying dead on her floor.

"What the hell happened?" Evelyn blurts out.

"I-I was just doing my nails, and suddenly this maniac tries to kill me! I s-stabbed him and now he's dead!" The spooked girl sniffles.

What do you do?

>Comfort the girl.
>Look at the body.
>Inform the mistress.
>>
>>45352467
>>Comfort the girl.
It'll be alright child
>>
>>45352467
"It's all right now. It's ok..." You move over towards the girl and hug her. "Shhh..."

"Oh, gods..." The girl clings to you in support.

"This is weird." Evelyn states. "Just where could he have come from? And why of Grandale, of all places?"

"I think we should inform the guildmaster of this matter." You say.

"You're right. Stay here while I'll go tell her." Evelyn says and leaves the room with you and the female rogue.

"What's your name, miss?" You ask.

"Carla. I'm a C-rank, just starting out... W-Was that robed guy after me?" Carla looks at you.

"I doubt it, Carla. I think you just surprised him and he tried to cover up his presence." You say.

"I can't believe it.... Am I gonna be in trouble for killing someone?" Carla asks.

"Not in self-defense." You reassure her. "Besides, the authorities will want to know about this."

"I hope they do something. I want to go on missions with everyone." The young rouge wipes her eyes.

You sigh as you wonder what the hell is going on. You wonder what Kline is doing now.

You are Kline Bueller, and you and Maria are at the windmill. Maria is just gazing at it in awe.

"It's so big! And it's spinning!" Maria shouts.

"Yes, yes. It's a windmill." You yawn.

"Oh, hush! Let me enjoy this!" The blonde snaps and smacks you on the arm.

Good gods, you wonder if she were dropped on the head when she was younger. Then again, I doubt it would make her any less bitchy.

What do you say?

>"Can we go now?"
>"Wanna go inside?"
>"Let's go see the well next."
>>
>>45352635
>"Can we go now?"
>>
>>45352635
"Can we go now?" You say in annoyance. "I've already seen the windmill before."

"You go! I'm staying right here!" Maria snaps at you.

"I thought you didn't care about commoner hovels." You remark.

"That was before I saw this!" Maria gestures towards the windmill. "Just look at it! It's beautiful!"

"Fine." You sigh and head back down towards the village, leaving the cleric to her devices. It's been a while since you had a chance to catch up with old friends without Maria bugging you for once.

You walk around the village, spotting some friends from your boyhood days. "Hey, guys!" You wave at them.

"Hey, if it isn't Kline!" One of your friends greets you.

"Kline's back!" Another shouts.

"He lives! The city didn't eat him up after all!" A third chimes in.

You let out an uproarious laugh as you enter the group and began telling tales of your adventures, about the time you fought a goblin army, foiled an evil plot, and chased after a dangerous thief.

"Oh, man, sounds like good times you done had!" The first friend laughs.

"Yeah, especially how you got comfy with those nobles. Too bad their daughter is a snob." The second friend laughs.

"I hear ya." The third friend sighs. "I wish my girlfriend wasn't like her, though."

"Well, she's in this village, looking at the windmill, acting like it was a god or something." You chuckle. The trio of friends burst out laughing mad.

"Oh, gods, she must be nuts!" Your first friend laughs.

"I bet she never came to a village like ours at least once." The third friend snorts.

"Yeah, I bet anything she's nothing like Millie. Now that's a kind of girl I want." The second friend cackles.

>"I'm glad she's nothing like Millie."
>"You never know. A lady has her secrets."
>"The thought of that horrifies me."

"I'm real glad she's nothing like Millie. But, a lady does have a secret side to her." You sigh.

"That's true." The third friend says.

"I just hope she doesn't try anything outlandish, like trying to walk through town in sexy clothes." You sigh.

"Or like trying to climb a windmill." The second friend says.

"Yeah, like that." You grin.

"No, I'm serious. There's some crazy blonde bitch trying to climb the windmill over there." The second friend points to in the direction of the windmill. You turn to see- Oh, gods in heaven. Maria has lost her damn mind.

"Um, excuse me, guys. I gotta go check on something." You quickly reply and bolt off towards the windmill. Please, gods, don't let her kill herself before you have a chance to!

You reach the windmill and look at the cleric clinging onto one of the flippers. "MARIA!" You shout.

"KLIIIINE!" Maria screams back. "Oh, gods, this is amazing! I can feel the world moving around!"

"Are you crazy?!" You yell back. "You are going to fall off and break your spine!"

"I am being careful!" Maria shouts at you.

>"Careful does NOT equal death!"
>"Maria, I'm coming to save you!"
>"You have officially gone nuts."

"I'm coming, Maria!" You rush inside the windmill and climb up the stairs. You were not going to let anyone die on your watch.

You burst out the door below the giant rotating flippers and see Maria squealing like a child. "Whee!"

"Maria, grab my hand!" You offer your outstretched hand towards her.

"Get lost, Kline! I'm having fun!" Maria snaps at you.

"I'm not kidding, Maria! Grab my hand before you fall!" You shout.

"Back off, you commoner! I-I-AAH!" Maria is starting to slip on the flipper. "HELP MEEE!"

"Just grab on!" You shout, and the blonde quickly complies. Whew, she's heavy.

"Don't you let go of me!" Maria screams at you.

What do you do?

You grab her with both of your hands and haul her inside, both of you landing on top of each other.

"Gods, you're heavy!" You groan.

"Shut up!" Maria snaps back.

"Are you insane?! You could've been killed!" You shout at her.

"I was having fun! I never had any fun back home! I was happy!" Maria pounds onto your chest, tears in her eyes.

You are completely speechless. This is what Maria felt like? That was the reason she wanted to go with you? To be herself?

"Maria... I..." You start to say, but you are quickly silenced as she falls onto your chest, sobbing.

"All I just wanted was to enjoy myself..." She sniffs. "Is that so wrong?"

"No. No, it's not." You slowly wrap your arms around her and let her sob her heart out. You feel a burning sensation in your heart. Was it heartburn? Or maybe the tears on your chest was the cause.

You and Maria spend like minutes in this position before she stops crying and you release her as she rises up.

"Oh, gods, I feel like such a fool..." Maria sniffles. "I'm so sorry for being an idiot."

"We're both idiots, then." You smile softly.

"That's not true, I'm the bigger idiot! I nearly got us killed, I don't deserve-" You cut her off with another calming hug. "Oh, gods, why am I this way?"

"I don't know the answer. I can't tell you something you yourself know, Maria." You say, feeling your heart racing like crazy. Huh. So this is what romance feels like.

You wish you felt like this more often. It seems nice. Just wish it didn't have to be with Maria. But at least she's not being her bossy self, which is even nicer.
