You are Charlie Dennet. Magician, student and assuming you choose to follow through with this assignment, partner of one of your classmates.

Today was your first day of classes since you came to Elliot University. As luck would have it, the day was mostly spent on review, since the class had more than a few former Metropolis U students. Apparently, you have a test, next week on Janurary the 24th, which, honestly, you don't feel quite prepared for. The nightmares and fearing for your life has kind of gotten in the way of studying.

However, Barry Allen, that forensics guy who was all the rage on Ellen last year, has offered each of the Metropolis U students a classmate as a sort of tutor, to ensure that they keep up. Thankfully, it seems that he had the good sense not to force any partners onto people and only those who volunteered were considered. Last, but not least, it seems that you have been given the opportunity to choose who your partner is going to be, due to the sheer quantity of volunteer tutors exceeding the number of Metropolis U students.

Which means, the only question you have to ask yourself now, is who do you want helping you keep your grades up, and, subsequently, that scholarship yours?

>A. The guy in the tight, red shirt. Duke something or other. Nice enough guy, if a bit intense.
>B. The girl who refused to introduce herself. She seems to have a bit of a problem with breaking eye contact, but whatever.
>C. Daniel Bullock. His really long-winded introduction made it sound like he's got some sort of edge when it comes to this class
>D. Duela. She refused to give her last name, but she seems like a nice enough girl.

As it turns out, Duela wasn't keeping her head down because she's particularly shy, though she is, it's because she has a very prominent scar along the let side of her face. She also appears to have an issue with looking directly at you so, sometimes, it feels as if she's talking to someone else. Otherwise, she's a nice enough girl. To both of your surprise, she lives on the same block as you and has asked you to walk her home, since her friends did not have class today. Along the way, she asks you a few questions. Never anything personal.

Eventually, the two of you end up in front of her home, which appears to be just on the end of the street where your own house is.

"So, um, I think you should come over, later tonight"
You frown; you just have more than a few calls to make and you aren't sure where those calls are going to take you.
"Uh, what time were you thinking?"
"Um, when works for you?"
"Nah, it's cool. My schedule is pretty op-"
She cuts you off and speaks very quickly and a bit too loudly
"Please just pick a time!"
"Seven Pm" You blurt out. That gives you about an hour and thirty minutes.

Thinking about that outburst, you open the door to your home and the first things to hit you is the scent of delicious baked goods and the sound of laughter. Then, the next thing to hit you is a glob of dough. Holding back the urge to yell, you open your eyes and note that Impulse, who is not wearing his costume, is holding Cissie around the waist, and appears to be using her as a shield as Anita has frozen in the process of slinging dough at him with a spoon.

Sitting on the couch in the living room is a boy, far too pale to not be some sort of metahuman, who is watching tv and paying no mind to the others.

Giving them a quick, exasperated smile, you walk past the kitchen and make your way to your room, pausing only to wipe the dough from your cheek and nod when Cissie says

"Oh my god! We are so sorry, Charlie".

Once in your room, you donkey kick the door closed and take a seat at your desk before fishing your phone out of your pocket. You pause at the missed call listings, not sure which who you want to call back first.

>A. Kitty. She called you a while ago and it could be about work
>B. Walters. Whoever this is, they called you for some reason or another, right?

You phone up your messages and go through the, honestly, needlessly tedious process to retrieve your messages. After a few moments, you hear a huge burst of static, which almost makes you take your ears away from the phone, however, you hear a voice, distant but definitely there.

You listen through the static, however, despite your best efforts, you can't seem to make out as much as you'd like.

" bin BZZZZZZZT League BZZZZZZZZZZZT world BZZZZZZZZZT ack BZZZZZZZZZZZT Mon!"

And that is all before the message seems to be over. You frown at your phone, trying to understand what the hell you just heard. The voice was garbled so badly there was no hope of recognizing it, even if it came from someone you knew.

You decide to worry about it later as it is already 6:12 PM and you have to be at Duela's in less than an hour.

>A. Call Kitty. She said to call her only after 7...but she wasn't mad the last time you called her before then, right?

You decide that maybe calling this 'Walters' whoever they are might be the better of your ideas so far. And so with only a few deft swipes and pokes of your finger, you find yourself listening to the telltale ringing of a phone call going unanswered.

Just as you consider hanging up, someone answers. Amazingly, using only a single word, the speaker manages to convey their annoyance, their haughty attitude and their status as a douche.

"What?"

You consider saying something clever or irritating, but decide to swallow back the urge and instead reply with
"Hi. You recently called my number"
"You are mistaken. I don't do outgoing calls. "
"Well, you did. I know you did, since I called you from my missed call listings"
"Wait, is this the fellow that found my dog?"

You pause, suddenly torn as to whether or not to tell this guy the truth. He sounds like a real jerk, and you've only been speaking to him for about thirty seconds.

>A. Tell him the truth "Yes. I found your dog, I'll call you back to schedule a pick-up"

"Yes, I found your dog. I'll call you back to schedule a pick-up"
"That is acceptable. I will send someone to pick up Quintus."
He then hangs up before you can say anything else and you're left holding your phone to your ear, a little offended.
"Quintus is a really dumb name for a dog".

You sit back and consider your options. It's still only 6:16 PM, so you do have some to get things done. However, before you can decide anything, there is a knock at your door before it promptly swings open.

Half speed walking into your room, though you doubt it's even possible for him to move slower, whether because of his powers or his disposition, Impulse makes his way inside holding a plate of cookies.

"Hey Charlie!"
"Bart! We said to knock and wait!" comes Cissie's voice from the hallway as she makes an appearance, though she stops at your doorway at glances about your, admittedly small room. You frown at them, but it slowly dawns on you just how young Impulse, or Bart, you imagine that's short for something, and Cissie really are. They can't possibly be older than you and you're having trouble beliving either of the are out of their mid-teens, actually.

What could possess a pair of teenagers to become vigilantes?

"Oh! Sorry! Well, too late now, right?" Bart asks with a chuckle "We made cookies earlier and we were really sorry about hitting you in the face with dough, so I wanted to know if you'd like some!" He doesn't wait for you to answer as he slides it onto your desk and then retreats to stand beside Cissie, who wastes no time in slapping him in the arm.

"We really are sorry about the dough thing, Charlie"

"Are you a super villain?"

What? You frown at Bart, obviously confused by both the question and the immediacy that he asked it.

"Wha-"
"Because Anita says you're the one who hurt her arm"

You glance away from Bart, guilt making it hard to look right at him. You can see Cissie sort of tugging on his sleeve, but he appears to be paying her no mind as he forges on.

"I don't think you're a super villain or a bad guy or anything...but I make mistakes sometimes. So, um, if you're a bad guy, please just tell me now"

It seems like he's done and though Cissie seems to be trying to all but drag him out of the room by his left arm, he stays in your doorway, doing his best to hold eye contact.

"...I can't answer that, Bart. I can promise I wasn't trying to hurt Anita, but I can't say I'm not a bad person" You gulp after saying that, fingers drumming on your desk as you wait for him to respond. For once, it seems like Bart stops and carefully considers what he's going to say,
"I asked you if you're a bad guy...not a bad person, Charlie"
You frown at him, but he smiles at you and then allows himself to be dragged away by Cissie. The two of them remember to come back and close your door in between Cissie lecturing Bart.

Reading over the notes you took before the Christmas break and the incident in Metropolis, you prepare yourself as best you can only stopping once you realize that it's already 6:41 PM. It'll take you a bit of time to make sure you don't look like quite as much of a corpse as you normally do.

So, after refreshing your deodorant, chewing a stick of gum and combing your hair a bit, you give everyone a quick nod of acknowledgement and make your way out of the house. The walk to Duela's home is, as one would expect, short and you soon find yourself at her door at something along the lines of 6:57 PM. You ring the doorbell and then sit on the little stone gargoyle that stands attention on either side of Duela's door.

A woman swings open the door and you find yourself staring at a woman who looks like an older, though far more friendly version of Duela. The woman brushes her dirty blond hair out of her face and smiles at you.

"You must be Charlie!" she says as she gestures for you to enter and steps away from the door. You walk into the home and say "Yeah. I'm assuming Duela told you that I'd be coming over?"

"Yes, she did. She's downstairs in her dungeon"
You frown. "Her dungeon?"
The woman chuckles slightly and then begins to walk away from you towards the living room which you can see down the hall.
"A little joke in the family; she REFUSED to take a bedroom and chose the basement."
The woman retreats into the room, leaving you to guide yourself to the basement.

Descending the stairs, you note that you can hear music playing softly. Just as you reach the last step, Duela steps into view from what looks like a private bathroom. She jumps at the sight of you and squeaks out a 'EEP!'.

She's wearing a black sweater which seems to have more than a few discolored stains and a pair of equally discolored sweats. She places a hand over her chest and whispers, furiously

"You reallly scared me! Why didn't you knock or something?"

"Your mom said it was cool if I just came down"
"You still should've knocked....Well, take a seat while I get my notes" She gestures to the second chair at her desk, which is against the far wall and then makes her way over to some sort of filing cabinet. Why does she have a filing cabinet in her room? You take your seat and look around the room, taking note of the fact that one of her walls, which you assumed was just damaged, is in fact covered in clippings from more than one newspaper.

You consider getting up to look closer, but Duela takes her seat at the larger of the two chairs and plops a binder down in front of you.

"How far along are you, anyways?"

I'm going to need two 1d20 rolls for Charlie.

Duela listens intently as you answer yet another of her proposed questions and she nods in that same, thoughtful way.
"Hm. Well, I was afraid of this" she mutters as she flips through her notes, making a mark on a piece of paper. "If I had to guess, I'd say you'd be able to secure a sixty, maybe a sixty-five on one of Professor Sage's tests with the knowledge you currently have" She looks at you, as if gauging your response. You do not disappoint. You can feel yourself frowning severely and you actually avoid making eye contact with her as you think this through.

Your scholarship is dependent on your grades, and if you fail to maintain at least an 80%, there is no way they'll even consider you an option. You pause before speaking, noting that while Duela seems to have clippings of all of Gotham's famous vigilantes, she seems to have far more of Batgirl, than anyone else.

Guess she must be one of those Batgirl's fans.

You nod and then take your cellphone out of your pocket before unlocking it and opening up the contacts app. Sliding the phone to Duela, you smile and say
"I suppose I am a bit behind you folks here at Elliot U. So, how often can we do this 'tutoring' thing? If you're not sure, I'd really appreciate if you could give me your phone number so w-"
You audibly hear Duela sort of jump in her seat and she's staring at you with wide eyes as she fiddles with her pen, clicking it over and over and sort of stabbing it into the piece of paper the binder is open to.
"Um, are you okay?"
"Y-y-yes. I, um, did you just, did you just ask for my phone number?"
"What? Yeah, so we can coordinate? Like, set up tutoring sessions"
You can visibly see the tension leave Duela's body and, though it may be subtle, you detect just a hint of disappointment.
"OH! Of course, yes. That makes sense. That makes perfect sense....why else would y-" She trails off as the sound of feet all but stomping their way down the stairs can be heard. She finishes entering her number and then hands the phone back to you just in time. A blonde woman around your age bursts into the room wearing a green, long sleeved tshirt and a pair of jeans. She seems to pay no attention to what is going on in the room before she launches herself onto Duela's bed, groaning into the pillows as she lands.

"Oh. My. God. D, you would not believe what I-" She stops speaking as she raises her head from the pillow and frowns at you.
"Wait, Who are you?"
"Charlie. Who are you?"
"Steph....D, did I interfere with your booty call?"

You can tell she's joking but Duela is blushing fiercely and appears to be far too busy sputtering to respond.

>A. Joke "Actually, you're interrupting the pre-booty call number acquisition, so it's cool"

"It's not interference; it's impromptu recruitment!" You say with a big grin. Amazingly, Duela seems to grow even more flustered as she actually drops her pen and glances from you to Steph and back. Steph rolls over onto her back, laughing before she grabs a pillow and halfheartedly chucks it at you.
"You're not as funny as you think, lover-boy" She mutters as she settles herself comfortably on the bed.
Duela appears to have finally gotten hold of herself enough to speak and she clears her throat pointedly, while closing her binder with a certain finality.
"Charlie, text me so I can get your number, and then I'll call you and we can set something up...I think Steph needs me"
"Nah, not real-"
Duela interrupts Steph with a pointed look and a blurt of
"Nope! We definitely need some privacy. Sorry for this"

You give her an odd look, but go about collecting your things and soon, you're on your way back home but your phone rings and a quick glance tells you that it's Kitty.
"Hello"
"Hey, Sweetie"
"Uh, Hi yeah, Kitty?"
"Who else would it be? Did you get yourself a girlfriend while you were gone?"
You chuckle
"No, you just sound pretty laid back considering how long it's taken for me to get back to you"
"Oh, I get it. On another note, how do you look in a suit?"
"Uh, good, I guess?"
"Good to hear. Miss Kyle would like you to accompany her to an event being held by that pompous ass, Bruce Wayne. Apparently, he injured himself, and that's all it takes for him to throw a freaking party!"

She sounds pretty peeved. Guess she doesn't like Bruce Wayne very much.

"Uh, okay. Yeah. When is this party or whatever?"
"Saturday, Janurary the 29th. Speaking of, we're going to need you set up a day with Miss Kyle's tailor at least two days before the party"

>A. "Sure. I'll call to set it up. Talk to you later"

"Wait, will you be going to this event?"
"Why yes. Yes I will."
"Well then, will you be my date?"

You hear Kitty burst out laughing, though she has the courtesy to take the phone away from her face as she does so.

"Sure. Though I WILL be expecting some flowers, so you better not disappoint" And with that she hangs up, still chuckling as she does so. You smile to yourself, pleased to have managed to repair whatever you ad damaged when you had turned her down last week. You would've preferred to get a few more words in, but it doesn't seem like that's going to be happening tonight.

You consider it a loss and then make your way into your home, only to find that there is an air of tension and discomfort all throughout the home. Sitting at the kitchen table you find Anita, the pale guy, who you can see has odd, eyes of solid yellow, Bart and Cissie. The four of them seem to be staring at a laptop on the table, from which you can hear what sounds like a car crash. A multi-car crash, at that.

"Hey, what's going on?"

You see Anita and Cissie exchange a look but Bart is the one to answer and he does so immediately.
"Green Lantern turned evil and did some stuff" which, of course, elicits a smack from Cissie.

"What do you mean?"
"He's calling himself Parallax and he beat up the Justice League and then he left Earth's orbit and now the government is doing a press conference. Also, Lil Lobo and I wanted to play Halo, but we don't know how to hook the tv back up to the box, so we don't have anymore tv. Sorry. " Cissie smacks him again and he shrugs apologetically.

You roll your eyes and then walk over to stand beside the others and watch the laptop.

It does, in fact seem to be some sort of press conference.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of the United States of America, my name is Amanda Waller. I represent the Department for Extranormal Operations. I am here today to tell you that you do not have to be afraid anymore." The camera cuts to a family. Part 1

The little girl of the family is crying and the father has his arms around his daughter and his wife, looking frightened. It's a good bit of drama to include in something like this.

"The days of a group of self-appointed 'Heroes' are no more. No more villains running around only to be stopped for a week or two before they are broken out of prison and go back to wreaking havoc. No more Aliens descending upon our country and bringing about their own brand of questionable justice.

"No, Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time for Americans, to decide the fate of these United States. And so, I am very happy to announce the Government's answer to the 'Justice League'. Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to introduce to you, the Justice League of America!"

And with a flourish she gestures to a conspicuous, American flag themed curtain, which slowly rises to reveal a collection of people.

"Among these people are a number of Military men and women who have volunteered their services and expertise. Not to mention all the support they will be getting from our government and other agents who are, at the moment, indisposed."

You can practically hear Anita's teeth grinding as she glares at the woman on the screen. There's something more than just professional there. There's something personal.

"The first order of business The Justice League of America will tackle is the apprehension of Young Justice, the vigilante group responsible for the vandalism of one of America's greatest treasures."

"Oh crap!" you hear Cissie whisper
"That bastitch!" you hear Lil Lobo mutter
"Bring it on you fat cow!" You hear Anita hiss
"Oh boy! This is going to be so CRASH!" You hear Bart exclaim excitedly.

Well, ain't that just the pits.

And that's it for tonight folks. My internet is really crappy tonight. I've had to consistently try and post the same things over and over and, honestly, it's really starting to get on my nerves.

I'll try to stick around and answer questions, but with my internet being this shitty. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

It's okay, DCCT!

And will Maxwell Lord show up?

I'd love a scene where he shows up debating in favor of the Justice League, the YJ team watching and cheering him on, while Charlie stews and calls him an asshole under his breath.

In recent news, this is the start of 'I Ain't No Thule' The first of Charlie's big events. It's sort of like a multi-issue villain appearance in a normal comic. Here's hoping it goes well!

>>45372672
Maxwell Lord is an outspoken supporter of Super Heroism. There have been countless rumors that LordTech and Wayne Enterprises have been working together to help fund superheroes.

Of course, those rumors rarely have numbers to back them up, so they usually just get brushed aside.

However, this is a government organized rally for a government organized Super Hero team, I doubt they would ask Maxwell Lord, Justice League fanboy to make an appearance.
>>
>>45372822
I'm sure it'll be great.
>>
>>45372822

True, but I'd like to see him make some kind of public statement on the news.

While I'm not a DC fan*, after looking up who Maxwell Lord was when he was introduced in DCCSSQ, I love that he's Charlie's dad.

>In recent news, this is the start of 'I Ain't No Thule' The first of Charlie's big events.

Will Charlie have to fight any of the JLA members?
