"Wow!"
"You must have got, five, six, and this guy?"
"That was amazing, Kayda!"

Your rifle lowers, color returns to your vision, and the encouragement and praise rolls off of your mind.
Normally, you would have loved and adored the compliments. None of it seems to register to you right now. Your vision has narrowed at the groaning man laying in the mud.

You know this man.

You are Wihakayda, known to everyone else as just 'Kayda'. You're not very old, or very wise, but apparently you're really talented with a rifle! That must run in the family, you guess. You just used those talents to completely obliterate a group of masked men hiding in the forest just outside the castle!
As according to the strange properties of this world; shooting them didn't kill them, but turned them into fluffy balls who could be interrogated later.

All except this guy, the one face-down in the mud. He's just on the edge of turning into his harmless form, but he worries you considerably. He's a general from the land of your 'new' home, Konditorei. He's not a nice general at that. He's one of the ones that would yell a lot when he was angry, among other things.

The knights who are traveling with you, three in total, are examining the animal balls and only casting a passing glance as the man trying to breathe the dirt.

Except for the big fluffy one, sitting right behind you on the saddle.
"Huh, Who's that guy?" Pomelo asks, clearly noticing that he hasn't turned into an animal ball yet.

"Well he's-"

Whether you like it or not, Konditorei is still your 'home' land. It's still the place you are destined to defend, and one day the place you're destined to return to. You ARE Konditorei, at least that's what the evil maid tells you.

Konditorei wouldn't be behind THESE attacks, would they?

Suddenly, there's a powerful scream from the back of your mind.
'NO! TELL THEM! TELL THEM!'

On the other hand, there's a much meeker side which ALSO throws its hat into the ring.
'D-don't do that! Konditorei is your homeland! Do you want to be a suspect, too!?'

There's suddenly a very fierce argument taking place within the confines of your skull.

'What are you thinking!? You need to tell them now! Konditorei just attacked Biscotti!'

'You're Konditorei! Your charge is the princess of Konditorei! They're gonna throw you in their dungeon, just like they did last time, and your princess too!'

'That silly! Why would they think we're working with them when we SHOT him?'

'It doesn't matter, do you think anyone is going to care about that?'

Over, and over again, it feels like this conversation is lasting HOURS.

'What if you just ruined your own countries plans!'
'What if you never had a reason to follow their plans!?'
'What would Greta think?'
'How do you know Greta isn't in on this?'
'Why are you even with them!? You're not worth more than a general!'
'What would Jack think if he found out!?'
'What would Jack DO if he found out!?'
'You saw how mad Jack was!'
'He's not mad at YOU.'
'He will be when he finds out about this!'
'Kayda.'

Shut up.
'Kayda?'

SHUT UP

"Kayda?"
"SHUT UP!"
"Huh?" Pomelo takes her hand back off of your shoulder. "Wh- I just asked what you were saying. You kind of trailed off there."

"W-well, he's- He's a Konditorei general."
'You IDIOT'
'I wouldn't have said it like that!'

'You idiot.'
'You're so dumb.'
'The maid was right about you.'

You hop off the saddle and carefully approach the prone man.
He's still not moving, and you're starting to wonder if maybe he wasn't the man you initially thought he was.

People here usually turn into those fluff things, right? The other masked men turned into them really quickly.

You approach the man and then gently tap his shoulder.

He rolls onto his back, and-

HE'S CLUTCHING SOME KIND OF SMALL PISTOL! OH NO!

You awkwardly try to swing your rifle up to meet him, but-
SHING!

-But a sword embeds in his chest, causing him to puff up into a tiny bear-sphere.

That same sword, blue and almost aqua to the eye, immediately flashes out of existence.
-and appears in Pomelo's hand?

She's grinning, like she's the coolest person in the world. Hmph.

You come to the realization that, aside from Pomelo who is admiring her sword, Bennet is glaring at you.
Even Odelle is glaring at you, and she's a cat!

"W-what?!"
"What was a Konditorei general doing out here?" Bennet coughs.

"Seems kinda fishy." Odelle steers her ride around. "Of course, Konditorei being behind everything would explain it."
"Do you know anything about this?" Bennet's eyes haven't blinked.

"W-well."
You committed to telling them, so you might as well just go all the way right?
No sense in holding anything back.

"I know this guy, I've seen him before!"

DON'T YOU REALIZE HOW BAD THAT SOUNDS?

"B-but not the masked men! I have no idea who those guys are!"
Aren't you forgetting something?
"Or the kidnappings! I don't know anything about that either."

So, why is he looking at you with even more suspicion, now?

"So, why is he here, then?"
"I just told you, I don't know!" Pout.

"Well, how did he get here?"
"How would I know?"

"At least you must know his function. What was he a general of? How many regiments?"

"I don't, know enough- about the army to say."

WHY WON'T HE STOP GLARING AT YOU?

"Look!" you stamp your foot, "I have nothing to do with this! It's silly to even think that I would be a part of a plan where I kidnapped myself!"

"I didn't say anything about a 'kidnapping'." One of the knights says.
"Neither did I." The short, blonde one agrees.

"Stop." Pomelo tries to calm down the other two knights.

S-
"Shut up, Just, SHUT UP!"

"You guys are assholes!" Pomelo jumps off and rushes over to you. "You made a little girl cry, what the hell is wrong with you two?"
"Pomelo."
"She's a hero. Not a baby." Odelle sighs. "We were just asking, is all."

"I-I'm not crying, why are you-"

Pomelo wraps her arms around you, and gently picks you up.
You go to complain, but you feel a brown tail touch to your face.
"Quiet, it's fine."

Oh no, it's happening again. Just like this morning with Jack.
You bury your face in her tail, wiping your tears off on the fluff.

"Pomelo, seriously?"
"You're treating the girl who just gunned down a dozen soldiers like your baby sister."

"I know, and it's good." Pomelo rests her chin against your head. "C'mon, let's keep going. We still need to find Kayda."

That's fine.

"But the second we get back to Biscotti, I think Fritelli will have some questions to ask you." Bennet says, with a sigh.

THAT'S NOT FINE, WHAT DID YOU DO WRONG?!

You try to pull yourself away from Pomelo to protest that, but instead find yourself pressed harder against her body.
"Shush." Pomelo keeps holding you. "Don't say anything, just relax."

The ride for the next few minutes is both slow as it is awkward. Bennet intentionally sets the pace as to ensure another surprise attack doesn't happen.

You, for the whole time, spend it with your face buried in Pomelo's jacket. Her tail wraps around you like a very warm blanket.
Tails are nice.

"What the hell?!" Bennet exclaims.
Then suddenly, he takes off!

"W-wait up, idiot!" Odelle is right behind him.

Pomelo gasps, and then taps your head.
"Hey, something's happening in town. Are you up for it?"

>Jump off and go to town faster than all of them.

You pull away from Pomelo suddenly, and abruptly.

Pulling the bolt back on your rifle, you slam a clip into the top of it, and then flick off the holding pin.

Then you ratchet the bolt forward.
"I'm going on ahead."
"What? Are you sure?"

"I am sure. I don't want you to just charge in recklessly. I want to go scout first. After that, I'll tell you what's going on."

Pomelo pulls your head close, and pats the top of your hair.
"Be careful. Okay?"
"Okay!"

You hop off the feathered beast and spring into action. With several bounds, you overtake the other two knights who are desperately trying to rush toward the commotion.

In the distance, you see what Pomelo was worried about. There seems to be smoke, rising from the town!
You skid to a halt on a nearby cliff face, before peering down into the village.

The buildings seem mostly intact, and you don't seem to spot any cause for alarm or confusion.

You see some overturned carts, a few burning pyres, and what appears to be the guard scrambling about.

That's when you spot something strange. In the side of one of the buildings, there exists a hole.
Like, a hole big enough for a person to walk through.

That's not all, that hole is a part of a tunnel extending through all of the buildings.
From one end of the town, all the way to the other.

What kind of strange magic would do such a thing? It makes no sense to you.
Other than that, it seems whatever caused it is no longer here.

The wind is rustling the trees, and you feel a sense of unease about the town.
Something isn't right, it's like something is being hidden in plain sight.

You consider your brief training as a hunter. Move when the wind moves, hide where the rabbit hides, never lower your gun.

So you kneel here, with caution. Waiting for the wind to hit the treeline at just the right moment.
You keep a keen eye on the village and the people moving around in it.

You don't see anyone who is moving as if they don't belong. There are some foreigners acting downright confused, but none in a malicious manner.

Except those guys.
Three men, each of them armed, make a beeline through the town. They seem to be searching for something.

You make a very thorough note of their faces. Two Cats, one rabbit-man? Huh. That's a strange combination. You've really only seen one bunnyperson since arriving, and that was the princess of bunnyland itself.

Speaking of which, the wind has changed direction.

Slowly, you ease your joints at their range of motion and quietly stalk through the wavering grasses. With your speed, it takes a few mere minutes to reach the other side of the village.

The tunnel seems to continue all the way through the buildings on this side, too. It's like something plowed right through them.
A dragon?
A.. giant snake?

That's peculiar, it continues all the way into the woods, as well. Trees are upturned, and vines are snapped and discarded.

What could have done such a thing?
It's like a cave, carved into the trees.

It's impressive, as much as it is terrifying to think what could have made that.
Well, at least you don't have to go in there. You can worry about that after you find Yuuki.

Your foot clinks against something, something that's completely spent.
It's a flask, with the top torn off.

Oh no.

You contemplate going back to Pomelo and crying, but you're not sure she'll let you rub your tears on her tail again.

"I don't want to go in there."

You say to yourself.

"I REALLY don't want to go in there."

Trees upturned, chipped and flaked, Stones crumbled, vines torn and stretched. A tunnel of brush and leaves stretches onward into the deep and dark forest.
Whatever did the damage to town, it went this way.

You hold the flask in your hand, almost kneading the metal container. Really, there's only one person who would carry a kind of container like this all the way out here.

You are Wihakayda, and wow; today is turning into a bad day. It's turning into one so fast that you're not even sure that it's worth trying to conquer anymore. Maybe you should just head back to the castle, where its safe.

No! No! That's the wrong mindset to have! You're deep in whatever conspiracy is grasping Biscotti now! You can't just turn back!
Especially after you gunned down a general for your own kingdom. One who may be behind the sudden attacks on this land.

You definitely cannot turn back now.
..Is what you say to yourself.

"What am I gonna do." You squeak out in a below-audible whisper. Following this path seems like a very poor life decision. Especially if Jack is already on the job.

Of course, that doesn't MEAN anything. You could just be mistaken, and this flask may have nothing to do with Jack or this tunnel.

That said, it's the best lead you have! Yuuki is still missing, and this tunnel has to be related to the kidnappings or the attacks. It's just too strange to not be related.

On the other hand, is investigating this tunnel really your job? This is like the job for an army or a group of scouts who are accustomed to these woods. You might even get lost if you try to follow this.

But on the OTHER hand, you may not have time to run all the way back to the castle and assemble a party to go scout this properly. Whatever made this would be long gone by the time you get everything together to do that. Which means it might be long-gone with Yuuki.

But on this other hand, you do have three knights with you who are accustomed to the terrain. What they lack in power, they make up for in experience. That's a scouting party, right?

You know, that's three hands. Maybe you should take one of them and slap yourself with it.

>Onward! Into the abyss!

Maybe if you just...

"Watch my footing.
Watch my surroundings.
Listen to the wind.
Listen to the leaves.
Respect the forest.
Respect its inhabitants."

No, wait! You're not going hunting! This is serious here!

If you're quiet, you're sure you can slip in without anyone seeing you.

Gently, you take the first step into the tree-tunnel.
Surprisingly, the foilage and timber beneath your feet don't snap. In fact, it's almost as if it's already been pulverized flat.

Strange.

Your pace quickens into the darkness of the forest. The trees seem to reach up into the heavens and steal the sun itself.
At the same time, your feet are like soundless spirits. They tread across ground which has no more sound left to give.

The birds continue to sing, and the trees continue to shake in the breeze.

You start to ask yourself the questions at the back of your mind which you wish not answered.

If Jack got swept away by this, it must be far stronger than he is.
If Yuuki was kidnapped by this, it could snatch you away in an instant.
Even if you found what caused this, what possible chance do you have against it?

"Shut up." You say, once again to yourself. "Just shut up and don't tell me these things."

It's frustrating having that little voice of self-doubt constantly pounding in your head. It's gotten louder as of late, maybe because of your failure with Konditorei and protecting your charge from the higher-ranking ones.

You're not even sure what you would say if you met any of the ones responsible. Would it involve crying? Shooting? Just a normal talk? Or.. would you go back to following orders?

Suddenly, you stop. Ahead on the path, walking away from you, there are figures encased by the shadows. They walk along the path with no sense of quiet or calm. In fact, they seem completely free of worry.
You would say there's.. two or three of them.

>Continue stalking.
>Get closer and listen in.
>Surprise attack!

You slowly listen in, past the whistling of the wind through the trees, past the chimes of birds in the sky. Slowly, you focus on something more innate than speaking or walking.
Their breathing.

Their words are like a babbling brook as they echo amongst the trees, but perhaps you can sneak closer and have a listen?

Gently, your feet pick up in speed, and the figures emerge from the midst of darkness.

"..-You idiot."
"I ONLY DO WHAT I AM TOLD!"

"Attacking Jack isn't what you were told, dimwit."

You.. recognize these voices.

"NO, BUT IT IS WHAT I FELT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO."
"For fu- From here on out, you're no longer allowed to leave the regiment you're attached to."
"BUT-"
"No excuses. You've caused enough damage already."

There's a pause, and the memories swirl in your head.
Where have you heard these voices before? It's like you've.. repressed the memories of their voices.

"We have one confirmed, did Dominque get any more?"
"HAVEN'T HEARD FROM 'IM."

"Dimwitted dolt is probably the one that attacked the castle."

'Dimwitted dolt'..'Dimwit'
You know this voice!

"Two of them are fighting the demon, so that leaves three back in town. I want those found before Sundown, clear?"
"YOU GOT IT, POPS."
"Never call me that again."

You know this voice, and it makes you tremble!
That's Greta's uncle! The reason you fled Konditorei with Greta!

It's.. like you should be following him, but shouldn't? You're not sure what to do. This is kind of backwards.
Less than a month ago, he was the one writing your orders. You were never technically relieved from that.
But- Should you?
He DID order you on a suicide mission.

Your legs lock, and you suddenly find it difficult to walk.
It can't be, it can't be that man.

The man who ordered you to your death.
The man who locked Greta away to rot.
The man who admitted his hatred of you to your face.
The man who latched you to that maid.

It's him, without a shadow of a doubt.
A part of you is afraid, a part of you is uneasy, a part of you feels like you should be reporting to him!
And- oh no, there's another argument happening in your mind again.

You quickly catch back up with them. At the very least you should try to understand what they are doing all the way out here in Biscotti.

"Go check Jack and see how he's doing with that demon."
"CAN DO, AND THEN-"
"No, check how he's doing with the demon, then come right back. I don't have all day to wait for your dumb lumphead."

"CAN DO!"
"Stop."

Both of them grind to a halt, and then the small one turns to the big one.
"Hand me the girl. Don't take her to Jack just so he can take her back again."

"OH, RIGHT."
The two figures stand next to each other, and the much lankier figure suddenly seems encumbered.

Could it be..?

With a deafening crack, the big guy takes off through the canopy of the forest. The smaller figure dodges falling sticks and twigs from his departure.

He sighs, and then adjusts his voice.

"You can come out now."

What!? He's not even looking at you!

Attacking has generally worked out ok against the bears.

Didn't we have some combat system earlier in the quest where heroes were awesome?
>>

Sad to say, that combat system is out of practice now. Too many numbers, not very dynamic, lots of things to keep track of.

So I'm seeing the consensus is to come in shooting, are we in agreement?

>>
>>45401263

I don't get why people are assuming they aren't just because musclehead beat one hero on a bum roll and ninjas kidnapped one hero who was naked in her room. Kind of an overreaction, right?
>>
>>45401368
First Kayda was kidnapped, then Yuuki has now been kidnapped.

>>
>>45402917
Same - starting with the bear prince and the current ruler of bearland, and working my way down.
>>
>>45402800
To do that we need to find a place where we can inflict actual pain upon these douches because them knowing that nothing truly bad can happen to them n a barrier makes interrogations difficult.

My theory about whats going on is that apart from the bears who have that deal with that random guy whose country was destroyed. All the big shots from the various nations don't like it that heroes from another world where called in (as well as possible powerhungry nobles) because they think that they don;t need them. The bears are utilizing this to get the heroes out of the way so that they can go back to doing whatever their nefarious evil plan is. Also the cats are behind everything. FUCK CATS why can't they be more like animu version with majestic lions.
>>
>>45402957
Go right to the edge of the barrier then.
Nothing says we have to do the interrogation inside one.

>all catland's faul

EEK!?
He sees you!?
How! You were perfect! That was the best effort you think you've ever made!

Even your BEST effort isn't enough?!

..

The maid was right.
You're useless.

"Hmph." The lanky figure says to himself. "Thought so. Doesn't hurt to check."

He turns to.. walk away?!

..
He thinks you're so beneath him that he doesn't even have to fight you.
That.

YOU'RE-

You stand up, gun trained right on his face.
CLACK
"BASTARD!"
"What-? THERE's SOMEONE-?"

BANG!

The shiftless form spins in place, throwing the burden from his shoulders. He grasps at his torso while swearing!
"RED GIRL, IS THAT YOU-"

BANG!

He reels once more, and then brings a tiny stick up above his head!
The stick, is glowing..

BANG!

Until it isn't.
It bursts with a powerful blue glow that envelopes the right half of his body, and magic sparks fly and course through his body.

You rush in quick, and precise. Using the knife on your rifle, you stab forward into him! He eeks a painful groan before falling back onto his butt!
He reaches into his robes, his now-charred beard falls over the holes in his clothing, before bringing out a sheet of partridge.

"WAIT!" He commands, "RED GIRL, I SIGNED YOUR SUMMONING AGREEMENT, AND YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME."

'He's right you know.'

It's that.. feeling again. That feeling like I'm doing something wrong.
'He signed your summoning spell. He's still Greta's uncle. He is the ruling king of Konditorei. Doesn't that mean anything to you?'

"Shut."

You grab his hand, and pull his miserable hide toward you.
Just so your fist and meet halfway with his skull.

His head hits the forest floor with such force that it bounces, and reflects off a misshapen tree root with a hollow 'THUNK'.

"REDSKIN, YOU WILL OBE-" He says, his voice cut off with a hit from your shoe.

"SHUT UP!" You yell. "FILTHY MISBEGOTTEN FLEA-INFECTED JACKASS!"

The butt of your rifle comes down hard on his skull. A sickening crack fills the woods, and the whole world seems to glow a bright blue.
His clothing starts to peel, first with his cloak, and then with his outer protective leather armor. It peels with the scratching of a beast as you rain blows down onto his tiny, anorexic body.
With a "Pssshhh." noise, a powerful gust nearly throws you over.

The forest is quiet now. All that remains on the damp surface of the leafy earth is the burden the man was carrying, your rifle, and a small fuzzy ball.

You can't help but feel as if you won in the worst possible way.

'You've really done it now.'
'Greta will NEVER forgive you.'
'No one ever trusts a traitor.'

"SHUT UP!" You reach to the earth and yank a root up with effortless ease. "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UUUUUUP."
The gnarled implement mangles and splinters in your hand.

"Shut up, please."

..

"Yuuki?"
You suddenly remember something, important.

Picking yourself up, you scramble over to the motionless form. You tear some kind of wrapper off of it.
It's definitely Yuuki, but something is wrong. Her eyes are closed, her mouth is agape.

There's some kind of small insignia on her forehead. It glows dimly in the forest night.

>Swear some more.
>Cry some more.
>Grab everything and get going.
>Hit yourself.
>Shake Yuuki.
>Scream.
>Other?
>>
>>45405201
>You can't help but feel as if you won in the worst possible way.
Fuck no this was great.
We should institute regular beatings for the jackass, make all his people watch.
Maybe that'll beat some goddamn humility into them.

Grabbing everything also means carrying that wannabe king, right?
>>
>>45405370
I don't think so. I think its mostly shock.
>>45405406
If everything means everything then yes.
>>
>>45405370
Yeah, i'm too sure it's not just Kayda's self-doubt.

Also, does us capturing the king mean his psycho son is technically in charge now?

Regardless, we need to quickly deliver kingball to Biscotti. Galette isn't the right place right now. We'll have to do some serious denobling before.
>>
>>45405429
>I don't think so. I think its mostly shock.
Shock doesn't have voices in your head scream at you for being a traitor
>>

Crying might make us less able to run.

This.
Something has to be wrong.
It's blatantly obvious that no one's gonna dislike her for what she did against this jackass, but she still thinks something bad will happen because of this.
>>
>>45405523
We need to get emotions discharged, though. Kayda isn't exactly the shining example of mental health.
Our first priority on character change should be administering military-grade hugs to Kayda.
>>
>>45405615
Yeah and it seems a little to weird to be self loathing.
>>
>>45405591
Crying means we can't run as fast.
This is a bad idea.
We need to get a move on before something happens that might grab the wannabe king from us.
>>
>>45405647
We can sit down and have a good cry+hugged combo when we're safe.
Right now, we're still in the "someone sneaks up and grabs the enemy leadership before we can get them to our allies" phase of things.

>>45405656
I can see that coming from abuse, though.
But all this talk about how she's a traitor?

What have you done.

"Yuuki!?"
You shake, and shake, and shake.
But it's no use, she's not responding.

What have you done?!

"Y-YUUKI!?"

Your mouth opens once more, but only a tiny squeak emerges from it.
Quickly, you grab your rifle and sling it over your shoulder. You pick Yuuki up into both hands and start to take off.
That's when you remember, that man.

Jack will probably want to have a talk with him.
Not only that, you're sure someone who wouldn't want to wring his little neck out would also like to hear his side of the story.

His side of the story.
He'll tell everyone that you're under his control.
Or worse, he'll tell everyone that you're a traitor. That you're not to be trusted, or even listened to.

Would Greta even listen to him anymore? She thinks very highly of him, even if you think he's a monster to be disposed of.

A part of you wants nothing more than to just drop him into the abyss and never hear from him again.
You know that you can't do that though. There is no hole deep enough to hold him for very long.

Slowly, you pick up the bear ball. Somehow, it's retained the large fluffy beard.

With Yuuki balanced in both arms, you take off running for the town.

'Kill him.'
What!?

'Kill the bear. If he goes to Biscotti, he's just gonna squeal.'
This is getting too weird for you.

Your pace quickens, and the wind starts to whip at your hair.

You just want things to go back to normal. You don't want to take this thing back and have it tell everyone mountains of lies.
Or maybe, they're truths that you don't want to accept just yet.

In the distance, you see daylight. Your speed quickens to meet the warmth embrace of sunshine.
Your footing gives way, and you sink to your knees.

"Hey." You hear a voice almost right next to you.
Your head pans up to meet Dorje's eyes.
"Need a hand with that?"

>Cry and hug him.
>"NO!" run away.
>Give him Yuuki and sob.
>Pull yourself together, you had it all along!
>Don't say anything. Just stare

Kayda's head problems I don't like how its so negative and it feels so wrong and pervasive. It must be some form of magic bullshit and I want to fix it. But any action we take to fix it's OOC knowledge, so it feels like we're cheating if we try. GRRR so fucking frustrating.

You feel so dumbstruck right now.
Here's is this kid, of whom you barely know.

Yet, wherever you go, there he is.

"Kayda?"

Where did he come from?

"Kayda? Are you hurt?! But-"

He kneels down to check on Yuuki, noticing the blank look on her face. "Yuuki! Say something! Yuuki?!"

"W-" A word manages to escape your gaping maw. "Where did you come from? What are you doing here?"

"Yuuki?!" He shakes her one last time, before looking up to meet your gaze. "Uhh, Well. I followed you. Fritelli told me to stay back in the castle, but I wanted to help too! Besides, she's not my mother."

"Oh." You say, blankly.

She's not your mother, either. She's not even from your country.
Yet, you listened to her.

Huh, your cheeks feel warm.
Why is that kid getting closer to you?!

"Hey, don't cry. We're safe now." He takes out a white cloth and hands it to you. "What happened in there? Why am I always late to everything?"

"WHY DIDN'T YOU HELP?!" You spontaneously squawk at him. The cloth feels nice against your eyelids.
"Well." He sits back. "I was GOING to help, but then you started screaming and punching that guy. I decided to just leave you to it after that."

That jerk, that rude, mean, stupid, dumb, white-haired, jerk. Worthless idiot not even bothering to help or see if I'm okay or-

"Hey, calm down. It's fine. Why the red face?" He seems oblivious to your anger with him.
Dumb JERK.
This is just making more tears leave your eyes. It's pathetic.

"Stop! Stop! Please! Is it something I said?!" Dorje leans forward and pulls you into a hug.

>"NO LET GO!"
>"It's- it's fine, let's just get Yuuki back."
>"Please take Yuuki back, I'm worried Jack is in trouble."
>"I'm in no condition to fight. Let's just go back."

He holds the hug for what feels like a brief instant.
His arms, they're very warm. You think his outfit is made of the same fabric as this cloth.

Wait, now is not the time to be crying.

"Did you see the knights?!" You push him away. "I think we need their help! Jack and Cody are in trouble!"
"They are?!"

"Yes! They're fighting a demon! A big one!"

He bolts to his feet. "I'll go-"

"Wait! The knights! We should go with the knights, not just charge recklessly into battle!"

"I know, but- This is serious! A demon is a very serious matter, and they need help right now!"

Immediately, he takes off with a few parting words.
"The knights are in town, get Yuuki back to the castle and I'll handle the demon!" He darts into the woods. His form becomes a distant shadow as he runs.

Leaving you with Yuuki, the animal ball, and his cloth.

"Reckless idiot." You shrug. "I should find the knights, maybe they can help Yuuki."

With a spring, you pick back up and continue your run toward town. The knights are busy investigating the ruins.
You land in front of Odelle, and she emits a girly squeak.

"Kaydaaa! What the hell?!"

"No talk! Yuuki's hurt!" You present her with the comatose hero. "What do we do?!"

Odelle looks into Yuuki's blank stare, and shivers.
"I don't know! Why are you asking me?!"
"I- I thought you knights knew these things!"
"No we don't!"

Oh no!

"Pomelo! Pomeloo!"

"Huh?"
"It's Yuuki! How do we fix this?"

Pomelo examines the rune on Yuuki's forehead, and then looks back to you.
"Beats me."

"That's not the answer! how are we gonna fix this?"
"Kayda, calm down. Nothing good comes from panicking." Bennet steps up. "We can take Yuuki back to the castle."

"No! Wait! Jack! Jack is fighting a demon! We need to do something about that too!"

"Okay, stop!" you pick Yuuki back up. "I'm gonna get Yuuki to safety."
"Safety?"

"Back to the castle! If we can get her healed, she can go help Jack!"

"That's a little-"
"She might be injured for a while, don't push Yuuki to go fight if she's not up to it!"

"I'm not gonna do that!"
She'll be up to it, you just know it.

"I'm off!"

You sprint in the direction of the castle. Faster than you feel your legs have ever carried you before.

A small group of guards talk among themselves, but immediately jump to attention when you blast straight past them. They yell some things which sound like a vague whisper by the time they even notice you.
You take a grand leap of faith over the moat, and sail gracefully onto the bridge of the castle. Several guards and maids scream as you land right in front of them with a mighty slam.

You dart around the crowds, the guards, the investigators, and the generals. Your goal: Aligot, and Fritelli.

The armory door is shut, and appears to be locked. Fritelli must be out and about somewhere.

Fortunately, you find out where: She's talking with Aligot down the hallway.

You run up to them and immediately speak up.
"You two! Quick!"
"W-"
"YUUKI?!" Fritelli starts examining the motionless girl.

"No time! Take this!"
You throw the bearball at her with such force that she grunts.

"Aligot! There's this rune on her head, can we get it off and get Yuuki out there?! Jack is fighting a Demon!"
"A WHAT?" Aligot nearly jumps out of his skin.

"We need Yuuki to help but-"
"Hold on, hold on."

He pushes her hair back and examines the glowing rune.
"Kayda, this will take several hours to fix. It's a charm. The best way is for her to sleep it off."
"No! Wait! Surely there has to be something!"
"Well, hold on. We could try to break it, but that's a little muc-"
"LET'S DO THAT!"
"Okay, but it will take all of your energy."

Wait, what?
You can do that?
